Ruisrock programme extended with 23 new artists - including Joker Out from Slovenia.

The Slovenian band Joker Out, coming to Ruisrock, became known to a large audience during the Spring 2023 Eurovision Song Contest.

Ruisrock announced 23 new acts on Tuesday, including Stormzy, Don Toliver, Alok and Joker Out. The festival's daily programme was released at the same time.

British rapper Stormzy has played a key role in bringing British rap music to global acclaim. Enhancing the international rap lineup are first-time visitors to Finland, Don Toliver, who came to wider attention with his collaboration with Travis Scott, and Trippie Redd, known for his melodic style. 

Alok, an electronic music producer and one of Brazil's most successful DJs, will bring the party and live entertainment to Ruissalo. The programme is further complemented by Sub Focus.

The line up of international artists will be strengthened by the much requested Slovenian indie rock band Joker Out, who came to the attention of a large audience at the Spring 2023 Eurovision Song Contest. The band, who are really taking off, has warm relations with Finland, as the lead singer Bojan became friends with Käärijä in Liverpool during the Eurovision Song contest.

Ruisrock's domestic rap and hip-hop lineup expands with several names. The genre-breaking and uniquely humourous Käärijä, the charismatic Cledos, Ege Zulu & Orchestre with a big live band and F, who has been praised for his visually inventive live shows. Additionally, the line up includes Hassan Maikal, who wowed with his single “Yksinäistä”, and newcomers Hugo&Ahti, whose only joint summer festival performance with the band will be at Ruisrock.

The pop lineup will be strengthened by various artists. Pop hooks will be served up by the darkly spoken Costee, Elsa Brotherus, who puts sensitivity into words, Evelina, known for her many chart hits, and Isac Elliot, one of Finland's most popular pop stars.

The new generation of Finnish rock will be represented by the lovable Luukas Oja, dystopian Finnish synth-pop by MODEM, and Rebekka Holi and Orvokki will lead the audience into the deep and artistic music world.

Business City and Good Boys will bring their own special mix of music to the festival, with no shortage of action. The line-up is completed by a new metal band, LASTOUT, which has attracted great interest both domestically and internationally.

Ruisrock will take place 5th-7th of July 2024 in Ruissalo, Turku. More artist announcements are expected later this spring.

Lord Ruusu may be so kind as to open his doors to welcome you, Lucjan, the brother of his Katariina. I never liked that much and I'd rather the family called me my name Ekaterina, or Ekata, as you do. But you never refuse the name they give you, as it's a good name, and it's very distinguished and proper. Maybe they'll name you something as well. Something like Luukas. I'd like Luukas. Backstory/Background:

Atreyu was born into a family of assassins.  He is the only child to his mother and father. He is raised in the mountains of their kingdom, hidden from those who hunt him and those like him down. In these mountains lives his family’s home, in the center of it, formed around it is the mountain itself. As he is born into this long line of assassins his family has bounties on them from the other kingdoms and those they have done jobs for, against. In the Kingdom he resides in he is one of those who was also subject to a strange sickness that had passed through the Kingdom, leading many youth to die.

However, due to his family's relationship with the royal family, especially the King. The King himself had specially sent for any sort of cure that could be found for the only child of his loyalist assassins. But in exchange for this, Atreyu was to be raised alongside the king's son. The future king of their kingdom. This was to happen when Atreyu grew out of infancy and was older. It wasn’t until he was five that the king had called upon this favor and Atreyu became the prince's servant and friend. Atreyu receives the same kinds of teachings as the prince does, by the virtue of being around the prince during these lessons. As well as simply being a member of the people.

Outside of the palace and from his mountain home Atreyu grows up aware that his kingdom is in many disputes with six other kingdoms. All of the kingdoms have an element to them each. The kingdom Atreyu has come to be born into is the Kingdom of Air. The Kingdoms have been at war with the other kingdoms for many years. Long before Atreyu was ever born into the world. Most of the people have, because of this, become greedy and selfish. They often see the world as unloving and so behave in the same way. They simply do not believe that love exists in the world anymore, or at least not much. Despite this however, Kings and Queens from each kingdom do their best to take care of their people.

The other kingdoms in Atreyu's world rarely interact. They are often excluded from one another and hold extreme animosity with people from other kingdoms. Because of all of this, many of their youth are often sent to fight in the battles between the kingdoms. Because he is from the kingdom of air, many of his people are also themselves, like the element. Perhaps even seen as the most kind of all those in the other kingdoms, even. During his childhood Atreyu’s mother would encourage him to learn an instrument. That instrument was a violin. Much of his own mothers time and money went into buying lessons for her son to learn how to play. Though this would also lead him to finding a new power.

Atreyu grows to become fascinated with singing and so begins to get more into this interest as the years go by. But there was something far more special about Atreyu’s ability to sing than just an ability. It was a power. One that was often born into his own family. This was the reason why his family was hunted and had to hide. This power was to cast spells through the power of their voice. After it was discovered he had this genetic and rare ability Atreyu is sought after by the school that was built to teach him and others like him. With some hesitation at first, his parents discussed the dangers that might come. But ultimately decided that it was important for him to learn how to wield his ability, to protect him from those that hunted him.

So he was sent to the special school then, and there, also learned more about his creative interests. Such as in art, or in other such activities. Because of the ability’s strength the children who had it could not be figured out before it started to show in them over their life. Even then the ability is not fully awakened. It was not until he would turn sixteen when the ability would become fully manifested. As with all those who have the ability, at the age of sixteen, teenagers with the ability are fully developed. This means they also must learn to control their emotions. As that plays a huge part in the ability’s capabilities. 

During his time at the high school to learn his vocal abilities, Atreyu finds a liking in a girl and is convinced by her to join a competition where two contestants could win placement and future accolades, or ability to advance in a music career. Atreyu tries his best. But unfortunately he was not selected for any of the two positions and lost the competition. While his then girlfriend had been selected and would move on to become famous with her partner winner. Atreyu returns back to his kingdom after graduation and takes up a few odds and ends jobs over the next several years of his life. 

Many years later, when Atreyu is thirty he is however sought out. By none other than the young King. Who was searching for his childhood best friend. Atreyu however has not been able to face anyone for leaving and not returning back to normal life as was expected of him. Shamed that he had abandoned his once best friend. He moves along, traveling as much as he can to avoid facing the King.
