I have to pose the scenario hypothetically to solve this case and clear my name.

“Since I’m not Kira, I shouldn’t be uncomfortable talking in this manner.”

”You’re right…” L states.

”You’re not Kira. No…It would be a problem if you were Kira. Because you are my first friend ever…”

”You’re a friend I have much in common with. I’ve missed having you around school…I’d like to play tennis with you again..”

“Yes. By all means.”

What is he rambling about? Does he really see me as his friend?

“…Light!”

*I sigh to myself before facing Misa with a forced smile*

“I missed you!” She clung onto me like a needy sloth.

“Oh really?” I chuckle dryly, clearly tolerating her annoying behavior.

“Of course!” She sighs.

“You spend so much time with Ryuzaki, I would’ve thought you were gay.” She giggles. “Why don’t you make time for me…”

“I’m sorry, but we're working on the Kira case right now…”

“Yes..” L intervenes “It would be in your best interest to go home now.”

”Seriously?” Misa scoffs.

*L nods before taking a bite of his delicious strawberry cake.*

“You’re just gonna let him talk to me like that?” She faces me, but I give no response.

”Light!”

“Well..” I chuckle, scratching the back of my neck. “I agree with Ryuzaki. It is best that you go home.”

“What the hell? Why are you taking his side? I am your girlfriend you know!”

“Go home…” I narrow my eyes at her.

*She crosses her arms* “Fine. But I’m only listening to you because you’re my boyfriend…”

*She approaches me, wrapping her arms around me before leaving.*

“She’s a real keeper…don’t you think?” L asks.

“…you know she isn’t actually my girlfriend right?”

“Of course. But aren’t you at least a bit interested in her?”

No, of course not. I don’t need some dumb girl getting in the way of my plans. Even if she has Shinigami eyes…

“Not really.”

“Why is that? She���s pretty, has a good style, and not to mention…famous.”

“She is…”

“And?”

“I’m not interested.”

“Then who are you interested in?”

Damn L…why do you always have to ask so many questions? This isn't an interrogation.

”No one.”

“I see.”

I stare at him as he turns back to devour the rest of his dessert. He’s so weird, but so intelligent.

“I can tell you're lying…”

I snap out of my thoughts as I notice he is facing me now.

“Yes you are. Your mannerisms tell me everything.”

Shit. I guess I am a bit tense.

“Are you implying something?”

“Not at all. I’m just trying to get under your skin so you’ll tell me your secret.” L smiles eerily.

Well I obviously can’t tell him my real secret. So, I guess I have to lie once again.

”Alright..I’ll tell you.”

*L sits himself on the couch in his signature crouched position as I sit across from him*

“Look…you can’t tell anyone okay?”

L nods.

“I really do…like M-“

“Men?”

Men? Did he just say men?

I hesitate before speaking. “Yes…”

*Crap! Now I have to lie about being gay..? I was just going to say I like Misa..and that I only pretend to hate her…Shit!*

“Wow. I truly guessed Light Yagami’s secret?” L says in a surprised tone.

Damn…

”Yes..yes you did.” I internally curse at myself for going along with his stupid assumption.

“Interesting.”

“What’s so interesting about it?”

“Oh nothing. I’m just surprised. I wouldn’t expect you to be interested in a man.”

“Oh..”

”I was just joking when I said you were, but I guess I really am the best detective in Japan.” He chuckles happily.

L POV

I wouldn't have expected Light of all people to be into men. But..what if it’s still just a cover up? I know how he thinks and how he behaves, and this seems like a stretch.

“Light. Might I ask you something?”

“Go ahead…”

Ok so y'all I just had an idea for a Lawlight story but it's a Patalliro inspired AU

L Lawliet as Bancoran (a.k.a The Pretty Boy Killer)

Yagami Light as Maraich

idk who would be Patalliro to be honest 💀 (feel free to give suggestions lol)

The au would loosely follow Patalliro's storyline in the original anime for example Light is sent to assassinate L but inadvertently ends falling for him instead.

Btw for those who don't know in the og anime Bancoran is a skilled assassin/detective who has the ability to seduce bishonen (pretty boys basically) using just his eyes. I think that would work perfect with L since his eyes are also pretty unique and recognizable. Basically I can see him using his eyes to lure in his "prey" lol.

Maraich in Patalliro is an 18 year old assassin who works for an organization called the Diamond Syndicate. He is sent to kill Bancoran along with Patalliro (the main protagonist of the anime that it is named after) but instead ends up allying with Bancoran and Patalliro. Maraich is a pretty boy and uses his feminine appearance to trick and deceive his targets/victims. Light would be perfect for this since Light is very manipulative and is known for using his charms in order to get what he wants.

Also I'm just imagining Light wearing feminine get-up holy fuck that would be soo awesome to see. We don't see enough of femme Light in this fandom smh.

And I'm also imagining this iconic scene (if you know you know 😉) from the anime but instead it's L and Light 👀

It’s 2021. Light is an Instagram influencer. B is a cult leader. L is alone—again. Halloween ensues, but not in a fun way.

notes: holy shit!!! sorry this took so long. i have had most of this chapter written for months but somehow i was not emotionally available to write the last couple of scenes for a long time. hopefully this does not disappoint. ya'll must know by now i love an underwhelming/ongoing ending, but i promise there's at least one good twist.
