What are you oc's powers?

You're only getting a couple that are on top of my head-

I have so many OCs, with and without names that I need to flesh out, I won't be able to answer this properly-

Stellaursa has night time based abilities. She can manipulate shadows, constellations, play hypnotizing lullabies, and she can summon a violin to use magic based attacks. She has Chipper blasters, and basic fire magic as well. She can also use magic rings, to summon beings of darkness, or call upon their power for an attack.

Winter is an ice weasel, with ice and music based abilities. She can start snow storms, freeze water, and she can use dance as attacks.

Nightmare Lottie can manipulate shadows, turn herself into a dark mist, use puppet strings on her opponents, healing magic, she can use a lyar for music attacks, and she can make herself look more intimidating, shifting her appearance slightly.

Jeremy and Fritz Foxbun'rite are two peas in a pod. They have twining abilities. They, like most of their family, have pirate and science based abilities. They can summon swords, ships, electricity, and they have almost a magical talent for technology and chemistry. But on top of that, they grow up to basically be two male Miss Frizzles, with a magic school bus of their father's creation-

I thought I’d finally give this a try, so here’s a fusion between my OC Xania and @legendofgrump‘s OC Lyar. This fusion has Way Too Many eyes, and hand mouths that are only functional for biting. They’re pretty stubborn, and very much hate being told what they should do. Hell, I’m sure they’d even go out of their way to do the exact opposite. And they might have a distinct apathy towards morals.

Five More Minutes

Quite honestly, Lyar couldn’t believe his goddamn luck. Of all the chuckle-fucks he could have been saddled with, he got her. This was not going to end well for a multitude of reasons.

Marianne watched him dumbly, tongue lolling out of her mouth. A disgusting feature, if you asked him. But at least he had her attention. Lyar wagged his finger in a circle, a motion they’d somehow managed to come to a consensus to mean ‘turn around.’ And she did, like a dog turns around to chase its tail, but it was a turn nonetheless.

“This one’s itchy,” Marianne whined. Why oh why couldn’t he have gotten someone with a brain to model for him? Or at least someone who wouldn’t complain so much. “It’s itchy and I hate it.”

Lyar rolled his eye, holding up his hands and splaying out the eyes on his palms to really get a better look. If it wasn’t bad enough that Marianne complained and was dumb as a door knob, Lyar also had to plan his outfits around her additional appendages.

“When do I get to leave?” Lyar tapped her on the shoulder and she turned back around to face him. In an act of indignation, Marianne plopped herself onto the ground with a pout. “I’m tired and hungry and wanna go home.”

If only he could have expressed his agreement with that sentiment. But Marianne couldn’t speak sign. Couldn’t read or write. She didn’t even know about Earth Charades. A true simpleton. So there was no communicating outside of their few understood gestures. One of which, being the single finger he pressed in front of her mouth. Shut up.

Her pout only got more pronounced. “You’re mean.” If Lyar could have rolled his eye any harder, it probably would have popped out of its socket, yet it still wouldn’t have expressed his irritation.

After a moment of thought Lyar flashed his full palm to Marianne. Five minutes. It was a lie, but what did he care? He just needed her to be compliant for longer. The poor creature probably didn’t even know how long five minutes was.

It took a couple of tries for Marianne to actually catch his meaning, but eventually she got the hint. And she bought it, thank God. Lyar got her into another test outfit—this one unfortunately sporting sleeves for a two-armed being—and she modeled it without much complaint.

And then she modeled another.

And another.

And another three. In fact, Lyar got her into his entire collection by just assuring her that five minutes was almost up now and that she wouldn’t have to sit there for much longer. It was actually peaceful for once and Lyar wasn’t so upset about getting stuck with Marianne for his model.

Finally, Marianne was freed from the eternal five minutes that Lyar had promised. She practically tore the clothes she was modeling from her body, much to Lyar’s dismay, and bounded her way to the door of the studio.

Come back never! he imagined himself shouting after her as Marianne threw open the door and dashed out of it.

Ok so I never really thought abt the meanings behind my OCs names, I literally entrusted Emily over at good ol’ fantasynamesgenerator.com with this so uh…

Lyari:

So Lyari is a place in Karachi, Pakistan! It’s one of its oldest and most densely populated areas (I’m reading off of Wiki here). Residents call it “mother of Karachi” and it’s name is supposedly from a tree called “Lyar.” It was settled by nomads and fishermen.

I picked the name bc I thought it was pretty skcisncndj my friend said it sounded feminine enough that it could swing either way…and Lyari (my character) crossdresses and has the personality of Regina George and Rachelle from Barbie.

Kesar:

SO APPARENTLY KESAR IS A GIRL’S NAME UM MAKCKSNFJDISJ POOR GUY

It’s a Hindi name meaning “Of Saffron” and also “Lion” which is tight as fuck, Saffron means “yellow flower” basically. There’s not much else to say, I picked it bc it was one of the few names without an apostrophe (I don’t know why I wanted his name to not have an apostrophe??). But he is a longhair Khajiit and fluffy and…lionish tehe so I think it still fits (even tho he’s a grey tabby)

God, i fucking love your ocs. They seem to get so popular idk. I wish mine were like that. How do u write for them so easily?

oh gosh I’m super flattered that you love my OCs! I don’t really think they’re quite as popular as you might think, I guess people like the art I post but beyond that I think the only people that really care about them are you and Cantolope haha

I like to think that I’m decent at developing characters so I can try and give you some help with things to think about to flesh them out a bit more.

So first, I try to base my OCs around something. A specific design element I really like (the big singular eye that Lyar has) or a trait (Snail being apt to horniness) or some other element like a hobby (Artie REALLY likes hockey). This helps you have a base that you can build up from.

Make your character autonomous. You don’t want every character you make to just be “you with cool hair” or “you but more successful.” Sometimes characters have to do things that you yourself would never do. Its okay if they have certain aspects of yourself, don’t get me wrong! But it’s good for them to branch off and not listen to you sometimes. Cookie is super submissive, even around people he knows well, and hates having control. Blythe is super confident in herself, even when other people aren’t. Nikki has musical talent. Megan is a frickin’ quantum physics PhD student. I am none of those things haha.

Give them goals! Characters can only grow if they have something to work for and then something else gets in the way of that. It can be anywhere from tragic to monotonous, to silly, to life-threatening. And it helps a lot if your character’s goals aren’t just “get [insert character B] to like them.” This kinda goes back to your character being autonomous. Not only should they have separate wants and needs from you but they should also have separate wants and needs from each other. Snail’s biggest goal is feeling safe, secure, and in control. Sure, Daniel helps with that, but he’s not the only factor that decides whether that goal is met. Even Bo and Esky: Bo wants to feel loved and needed (and needs to learn to love himself), whereas Esky has a vendetta against public justice and society’s economic ways and wants to destroy it. They don’t necessarily need each other to fulfill those goals, but having each other helps.

Contradicting traits, goals, and experiences! Sometimes people do things that are not beneficial to their end goal at all. Sometimes they have personality traits that make everything more difficult. That’s good to have in a character! Wolf is very closed off to others, even though he craves affection and approval more than anything. Venus’s ignorance and silly stupidity constantly gets in the way of her trying not to blow her cover as a space alien. Marianne has anger issues that make her get violent while also desperately avoiding hurting others.

And when you write things for them, make sure you let the characters drive the story! Just because you really want to use that one line of really cool dialogue or let take the story through this sideplot that you meticulously planned out, doesn’t always mean that the characters will follow suit. Writing stories is kind of like DM-ing a DnD game where all your OCs are different player characters. You can make as many radical plotlines as you want, but there’s always that one person that’s going to get the party to go in the cave you didn’t plan for. But, just like with DM-ing, the best advice I can give is just let them do it.

You can always shelf that cool plot idea for somewhere down the road. Or maybe the cave is just a detour. It’s your character’s jobs to make decisions based on their needs, goals, and personalities, but it’s your job to play along and repurpose your story as you go.

anyway I put my ocs through a random number generator and swapped their outfits. naturally the generator fucked me and made the first swap Firefly in Lyar’s outfit, which is no good because Lyar doesn’t fucking wear c l o t h e s so I just picked something I figured he’d wear and here we have this.

(I’m also gonna have to fudge it when I get to Esky joy)
