L’area di servizio Arno Est sull’autostrada A1, tra Firenze e Arezzo, è diventata la prima al mondo ad utilizzare l’energia cinetica dei veicoli in decelerazione, per generare energia elettrica in grado di alimentare la stazione.

Una nuova tecnologia prodotta dal centro per la ricerca e l’innovazione del Gruppo Autostrade per l’Italia Movyon, è una piattaforma tecnologica capace di trasformare il passaggio di ogni veicolo che transita su un apposito modulo installato nell’asfalto, in elettricità, attivando un generatore elettromeccanico che alimenta un convertitore elettronico. L’energia prodotta può essere utilizzata in un’area di servizio per alimentare l’illuminazione, la cartellonistica e i generatori di ricarica dei veicoli elettrici, nel casello per far funzionare le casse, le sbarre e illuminazione. In questo modo è possibile far rendere invece che disperdere l’energia termica prodotta dall’utilizzo dei freni delle auto.

La tecnologia ‘Kinetic energy harvesting from vehicles’ che rende possibile questa innovazione si basa sull’impianto LYBRA sviluppato da una startup di Spoleto, la 20energy. Con un passaggio medio giornaliero di 9mila veicoli, un unico modulo produce 30 Megawattora all’anno pari a una riduzione di 11 tonnellate di CO2, equivalente al consumo annuo di elettricità di un condominio di 10 famiglie. In una barriera autostradale come Firenze Ovest verrebbe azzerato il fabbisogno energetico di circa 60 MWh/anno con solo due di questi impianti mentre l’utilizzo di questo sistema nelle barriere di Milano Nord e Milano Sud garantirebbe un risparmio di 70 tonnellate di CO2 ogni anno.
