Very staring-at-the-ceiling-wishing-for-either-sleep-or-death both in terms of lyrics and sound. Caleb burnt his life down once, so he knows he could do it again. But he won't. But- what if he does. If he doesn't pay attention, something will make the choice for him, and we all know how much he emphasizes and values his autonomy with regards to the atrocities he's willing and able to commit.

I like thinking about the conversations early Caleb might have with Bren. We know Caleb planned over the course of the whole campaign to bring his parents back, but did he ever think of other routes? Did he ever have moments when he could see the blazing, bloodied path from Bren to him and wish he could go back and grab Bren by the shoulders, timeline be damned, and cry into him everything he knows now so maybe he won't end up like Caleb? I dunno, but this song makes me think of that xD

The Burnin' by Nik Ammar

This one's a bit more early Caleb @ early Caleb than early Caleb @ Bren I think- something about Caleb taking blame, responsibility, fault for who he was and carrying it all into the present even after the cleric clears his mind. A bit mopier than his usual smoldering self-hatred but still :3

Ashes by Arrows to Athens

Graduation day! Or- with the journey there superimposed onto it, and all that superimposed onto Everything before that. There's one particular page in the comic (28 in the digital version), the montage as the drei are headed back to Blumenthal, that just really Hits with this song, so much so that I don't remember the context I originally added it for xD

Torches by The Oh Hellos

Just. Just pull up the lyrics- it's Scourger training verse one and Bren on the run verse two. This song feels like a threatening grin morphing into endangered smile.

Home is a Fire by Death Cab for Cutie

The song's more about earthquakes and stuff but I think Caleb's story counts as pretty ground-shaking xD Really an emphasis on the impermanence of everything, buildings, people, safety. This song sounds like a nervous smile to me.

Hold Me Like a Fire by Reuben and the Dark

This makes me think of Caleb and his first experiences with the beacon. Hear me out- the choir Constantly repeating the contradictory chorus once Caleb has a twinge of a thought of possibility, Caleb seeing all of himself and all he could be, Caleb's parents living through him both in memory and narratively b/c he hasn't yet opened the proverbial cat box to see if they're still dead.

Soldier, Poet, King - 5/10 it’s a classic, but got popular from TikTok. 5/10 because it’s a popular classic.

Second Child, Restless Child - 9.5/10 it’s so fucking good holy shit

Thus always to Tyrants - 7/10 SHIIT THAT’S GOOD! I love how upbeat and fast it is!

5: a song that needs to be played LOUD

first question and i'm already struggling to pick just one, but i have to go with something off three cheers for sweet revenge. me and my best friend (@motheffigy) were scream-singing along to the album on a long drive a couple months ago, and it was an unparalleled experience. three cheers simply can't be background music—when it's playing, it's the most important thing happening to me.

19: a song that makes you think about life

this is so vague that i could put anything in here, but the oh hellos are really good at making songs with lyrics that really get me thinking like this. there are songs by them that i enjoy listening to more, like grow and torches, but soap is the one that really sits with me from a lyrical standpoint. it's gonna hurt like hell!!!! but we're gonna be well! makes me sick every time.

21: a favorite song with a person's name in the title

i've been listening to this song for years and it fucking rules. such a great guitar noise that it inspired me to make an entire playlist of songs like it. i love the raveonettes, i wish i had one of their more recent cds. runner-up song that meets this criteria is isabella of castile by STRFKR.

Season 3 Episode 5 Thoughts

I have to start out by saying that this episode had such a high impact on me that I literally was not able to write these notes until the next day… So yeah that should explain a lot about how great this episode was

Let’s start off with sassy Gina. I think it is so fantastic how much she is using little comments and remarks to get back to EJ. It reminds me a lot of the last episode and how he was making little side remarks against Ricky. It’s almost like her subconscious way of showing him what he was doing to Ricky when he was mad. She was going to lash back the same

CARLOS’ NAILS I LOVE SM

Ricky breaking the 4th wall again by making eye contact with the camera 😭 pls

Also why does it make so much sense that Carlos was literally the only person to pull off the drama stunt with the rest of the cast? Like he really understands what makes good tv and I love that for him

Also the writing in this episode was 😙👌🏻 it was funny, romantic, dramatic, confusing and fast and everything else. It kept you on your toes and felt engaging every step of the way. The writers REALLY stepped up their game this season and it’s making the season feel whole and complete. I think some other story lines could be slightly more fleshed out but with the time constraints they had it was still done well

Kourtney saying “RCOSL” and Carlos getting annoyed gives me the same vibe as London and Mosby with the “PRNDL”

The fact that Gina said she CANT improvise and then she was asked to improvise in WDYKAL tells me it might not have been improv at all. She wasn’t improvising, she was acting out in vengeance. Which remembered what happened last time she couldn’t improvise and acted out instead? Mr Elton John got a drink dumped on his head at the dance in S1

And I LOVE that there is a water dumping parallel when Gina gets “upset” at Kourtney over her lines and gets to throw it again

Tbh I feel like anyone in this fandom would be fine if Sofia threw water at them

EJ is here for the wrong reasons??? Remember why Carlos casts these? Because he felt like they matched people’s personalities. I think this is a big ole red flag for p*rtwell. He’s in Gina’s life- at camp- for the wrong reasons. Maybe it’s to hold onto his past, not go to school, whatever… but that tells us he shouldn’t be there loud and clear

Ricky “I can hit him fr” 😭😭 pls my guy no need to be so eager

Also it’s been pointed out a million and one times but RICKY SAID HE LOVES GINA IN A NOT SO SUBTLE WAY. Like NO HESITATION. The minute Carlos said Ricky was mad Ej took the girl he loves Ricky was like “oh right gina!!” And then had to come back from it because he realized how quick he responded 😭😭

“He stole her- or WOULD HAVE stolen her in a fake scenario” 🤪😳🫢

And the held a torch to her for YEARS?? Um hello this implies Ricky has had feelings since the beginning?? Which in many cases Ej and Nini saw in s1. Like the scene where they hugged or Ej asked if gina cared about Ricky. EJ knows the feelings have always been there

Ricky b*tch slapping EJ is EVERYTHING to me. I shouldn’t promote violence BUT

And then him saying that was his motivation and asking to slap him again I’m DEAD

FREAKING CARLOS PUSHING THE MADDOX AND JET IN LOVE AGENDA SIR YOU DONT UNDERSTAND WHY ITS SO WRONG

Also him doing labor breathing to calm down 😭 call the police

A parallel I just realized: when Kourtney and Carlos asked Gina and Ricky a question all they needed was one question to come completely clean about how they felt and what was stressing them. It’s interesting they responded the same way to their friends

Like this whole episode was peak comedy but Channing and Carlos had me ROLLING the entire time. So so good 😂😂

Maddox’s squeal when she fake cries 😭 and then Carlos “IVE BEEN SLAPPED 😦” GOLD

When Gina and Ricky are talking backstage by Carlos you hear Gina do this little flirty “yeahhh 😏” and it’s very much giving the same vibes as them in the woods

Did anyone else notice that Ricky has the EXACT same look on his face when Carlos says, “remember you still have unresolved feelings for Gina” as when she brings up the chocolates?? (Yes I’m a chocolate truther sue me)

How does 10 to 1 mean peeing in Hollywood? 😗 am I missing something?

LETS NOT FORGET RIGHT AT THE END THAT IT LOOKS LIKE MR BOWEN IS ABOUT TO HOLD HER HAND AGAIN AND WHO HOLDS SOMEONE ELSES HAND AT THE END OF BREAKING FREE??? TROY TO GABRIELLA

And every person who has made the lights comparison is so so right and for what

Gina throwing Ricky around as a rag doll with no remorse and him enjoying it is EVERYTHING to me

ALSO DONT FORGET THIS WAS ALL SUPPOSED TO BE IMPROVISED. THEY DID THIS ON THEIR OWN, NO DIRECTION, JUST THEIR OWN NATURAL INCLINATIONS. JUST LET THAT SINK IN

The vocals, the choreo, the other actors reactions, the CHEMISTRY… everything about this song is literally so good. And it all built up to this??? Like it’s not out of nowhere but years of waiting and build up and at the end the tension is so high it literally causes Gina to run out of fear because she doesn’t know what else to do but panic???? Like hello???!!!

If you’re not on the Bird app or if you haven’t gotten a chance to listen to their vocals isolated please do it. It is so worth your time

This song really truly deserves every praise it’s received and will continue to receive. Timberly and the others really outdid themselves this episode and for what

(For rina, that’s what… this is what happens when the shows producer has a blatant favorite couple… sorry not sorry p*rtwell and r*ni duets don’t hold a candle to this one)

Me talking about Rina: don’t get me started

“Heart wrenching honestly” 🥺🥺🥺 that really was so hard for him and you could see it the whole time in his performance he just wants to love Gina so badly ughhhhh

Ricky even apologized for being too intense? Like he knew he went full throttle in that performance because it probably was the only time he was allowed to without EJ saying something. I’m sure he took that opportunity and ran with it… no matter how painful

THE PARALLEL SCENE OF THEM WALKING IN A ROOM IT ALL HURTS SO MUCH

this scene was so much because everything comes out in different ways and to have that many reveals in one sitting can be not overwhelming for the characters but the audience watching as well

Not Maddox just calling Ashlyn out like that 😭 but also she never denied it… so??? 😳🏳️‍🌈

I don’t know if this was supposed to be taken as a funny thing or not… But I find it really interesting that Ricky needed to lay down when Jet and Maddox were yelling so much of each other? It seemed like he was almost having some flashbacks to things that made him upset and his anxiety started to heighten reliving that trauma over again? Because not only did his parents fight like this but he also fought with Nini like this… it just seems like a trauma response for him to literally shut down so I’m not surprised he felt the need to lay down during all of that

But also on a lighter note it’s so funny how the kids are all yelling and everything is serious and then Carlos gets completely caught up on EJ not being Eric Junior and Ricky missing everything to yell about Maddox and jet being siblings completely out of context help 😭😭

And ok I’m not going to go TOO in on this because it’s been discussed a lot but there has been a lot of discussion around Ricky having regression (which is not true at all… look at other posts about this to get more context), but isn’t it interesting that Gina says OUTLOUD, “this is what the old Ej would do”. She is literally pointing out that him not being honest and hiding himself is a form of him regressing as a character. I’m really interested to see how the writers bring him out of this

I saw someone post about Ricky saying when you can’t find the words you just sing instead might be him hinting at singing Kristoffs lullaby and I LOVE THIS SM. But also I can’t tell what I would love more? If he is singing this off in a distance and pining at Gina or singing it to her 😭 both would be beautiful tbh

RICKY HAS A CRUSH ON GINA I STILL CANT BELIEVE THIS IS CANON ON SCREEN OUT LOUD ITS-

But also when he puts his head in his hands after getting caught speaking outloud. Like boy knows he done messed up. I am REALLY curious what they’re doing with that footage. Either Gina will see it on purpose, on accident, or it’ll get deleted but she’ll still find out anyway through word of mouth and I don’t care how but I love that somehow Ricky is gonna get CAUGHT

You can see he is trying SO HARD to avoid his feelings being known and he literally can’t. I think this is where the line from Val earlier about not being able to hide your love and it comes out in other ways comes in. He literally cannot keep others from seeing it and finding out which is frustrating him beyond belief. Enough people are seeing, noticing, saying things though that at this point… I’m sorry buddy there is nothing that can be hidden

Why does jet singing in that jacket at the piano remind me of the Gorilla from SING 😂😂😂

Bu that aside lmao I love this song. It’s implications with the kids around him and him looking with admiration at younger Maddox says a lot about their relationship. He just wants what is best for her through his actions and it showed so poorly. He feels so much regret even though he wanted to do everything right. Just a lot of misunderstanding and heart ache which I think sums up a lot of the relationships in this season as well

Ok who tf is EJ calling? I think it’s easy to assume it’s his dad but I don’t know that that is actually who he is calling and why? Is it to leave? Create more drama? Heal something that he feels or needs to be healed? I’m just very curious about who might be coming

I have a concept album rec!! It's a bit of a listen, but the Oh Hellos released 4 EPs called Notos, Eurus, Boreas, and Zephyrus. They're meant to represent summer, fall, winter, and spring respectively and kinda borrow lyrical themes and concepts from each other, and it works best if you listen to em in that order. Each of em are about 20 mins long to my memory, so I think in total about an hour and a half of music? They're very much folk/folk-rock so idk if that's up your alley, but they're my fav band and I like their lyrical style, it's very poetry-esque. :]

Hi! I’m back lol I spent the last 4 days or so listening to The Four Winds and replaying them over and over again not only for pure enjoyment but also to understand the narrative hidden underneath all its poetry.

VERY good albums, VERY good songs, love the lyrics, it’s very poetic as you say and every line has a lot behind it. I’ve added them to my music library and I’ll keep listening to them for sure. My favorite album was Eurus, followed by Notos, Zephyrus and lastly Boreas. As for the songs, my absolute favs in no particular order are: Grow, Hieroglyphs, Torches, Constellations, New River, Eurus, Rio Grande, Soap.

Here’s my take on the albums below:

To me the overarching theme of the albums is Change or the Cycle of Change, with a religious subtone as seen through all the references to Greco-Roman beliefs and Christianity.

Notos starts off as the Denial of Change, it’s about questioning yourself, your ideas, beliefs, perceptions, etc. Something’s off, there’s a grim underline hidden beneath, every good intention is interpolation a line we drew in the array. It’s your first glimpse into the realization that you have to change but can’t bear the idea of destroying everything that you are, destroy all that you were taught.

Eurus is the (Reluctant) Acceptance of Change, it’s coming, there’s no way to stop it, you understand that it has to happen and even though you are scared of it you have to let go and let yourself grow, tear everything down and rebuild it again.

Boreas…. idk really lol Death? Rebirth? Rebirth after Death? After many replays I struggle to grasp what it’s saying.

Zephyrus seems to me to be Enlightenment, fully understanding the Cycle of Change, being part of it and to keep repeating the cycle, not only to yourself but to endow it to others as well. We keep that old wheel turning over and over again, we lay the next spoke down, over and over again.

The albums play into each other and with each other very well, they reference each other, what’s about to come and what has passed, the coming of the seasons with the coming of the winds, Eurus (autumn) being scared of the sudden decay in Boreas (winter) and Zephyrus (spring) using that decay to rebuild anew, only for Notos (summer) to start the cycle again.

Torches by The Oh Hellos--this song has lived rent-free in my head since literally 2020 when I first heard it, it's been in my Spotify Wrapped every year since then. When my mind goes empty it starts playing. The fic I'm currently writing is tentatively titled after one of its lyrics. I go nuts when I hear it, I don't know what else to say lol!

village song by Paris Paloma--current number one in my repeat playlist. Best listened to with headphones, just really nice haunting vocals going on. Its bridge is easily the best part, "Creatures die at the hand of those who kill/and the leaves will decay by the winter's dead chill/and some will pass on by their own desperate will/just like that man in the white house on the hill."

Baptisms by Radical Face--probably my fave song by the band, or very high up there. Radical Face does a lot with themes about being happy with what you've got, or like, finding joy in the little things, and the ending lyric from this song ("I'll just breathe in all that air/I'll be happy that it's there") really kind of encapsulates that for me.

About Damn Time by Lizzo--my feel good song! If I want to jam I put this on, it's just so upbeat and makes me feel better about myself. I'm always talking about walking around in my Belenciussies.

Frozen Pines by Lord Huron--Lord Huron's entire Strange Trails album makes me feel like I got lost in the woods and am now being stalked by some ancient eldritch being that exists in the space between growth and decay and Frozen Pines kind of hits the moment where I'm about to die. Very particular mood going on there but it's what I like to listen to most when I'm writing from the perspective of certain OCs. (Also it's possibly about being abducted by aliens? I definitely get that vibe from it.) Anyway I always think about the line, "And I wonder all they know/'cause they don't die and they don't grow." Very good moment there.

"So. There you go," Magnus said, his voice breaking the silence that had settled between him and Alec. "You know the whole truth."

"I do," Alec’s voice was soft, guarded as his eyes flitted across his face. "Magnus, you know it doesn't- you know this doesn't change anything right?"

Magnus blinked at that, feeling suddenly as if someone had dimmed the lights in his house. He looked away, though he still looked at Alec through the corners of his eyes. "You always say that the past matters."

"I do," Alec said. He looked at Magnus as if he'd correctly guessed at an answer, though Magnus couldn’t imagine why. "I just- maybe I should elaborate."

Magnus silently raised a shoulder in a shrug. There was the sound of cloth shuffling as Alec drew closer, and then his hands were cupping Magnus’s cheeks, slowly raising his head until they were looking into each other's eyes again.

"I love you," Alec said, his voice so low it was almost a whisper. "I love all of you, Magnus. Even the ugly bits. Even the parts that you're ashamed of."

"Alec." Magnus’s eyes slid close as Alec’s lips touched his forehead.

"You saw me at my worst and you still loved me," Alec whispered, his breath warm against Magnus’s skin. "Let me return the favour, my love."

Magnus had been an adventurous boy when he was young. Sure, his adventures consisted of climbing on top of stray rocks and little mounds of soil that construction workers sometimes left behind after they worked in his father's backyard, carrying around a backpack full of compasses and torches and hand-drawn maps that he absolutely did not need, but it was the mission that counted, was it not?

It was obviously inevitable that an adventurous boy like him would've met with many accidents. Cuts and scrapes and bruises, colds on the nights after he was out playing in the rain, and on one memorable occasion, swallowing a few mouthfuls of pondwater infested with algae and little insects when he'd almost drowned in said pond.

Magnus had spent half a day crying over his subsequent stomach ache and throwing up in the toilet. He remembered kneeling on the bathroom floor, his mother sitting right beside him as she brushed his hair away from his face with a gentle hand, rubbing circles into his back as he gagged and retched over and over again.

Somehow, fifteen years later, he was in that same position, but it was a whole other bathroom and the air smelled distinctly of alcohol and there was no one rubbing his back. Magnus’s fingers tightened around the rim of the toilet, and he could feel the impending hangover loom over him, along with a fresh wave of nausea.

Clearly, he'd had too much to drink tonight.

He wondered how things had come to this, how a simple life could turn into a sharp decline so suddenly and so intensely.

Magnus let out a sigh that quickly turned into a gag.

He just wished he had someone to hold his hair back, even now.

Jia Penhallow's voice was muffled here, behind the podium, where Alec sat on one of the several wooden boxes, palms clenched nervously around his knees.

He hadn’t been this nervous since, well, since the day he'd first asked Magnus out all those years ago. Back then, Alec couldn’t think of anything more nervewracking. Yet here he was now.

Would Magnus ever know that his fingerprints were all over Alec’s work? Over every bill he wanted to pass, every law he had to change, over the proposal regarding marriage laws that he'd tucked away deep inside his desk, to be dredged back up when he'd finally find the strength?

Do you know? Alec wanted to whisper to him, pulling him close, his arms wrapped around his body or holding his face, he didn’t know. He could still feel the phantom touch of Magnus’s skin on his fingertips. Do you know I'm doing all this for you? Do you know that everytime I look back on the journey that brought me here, it always leads me back to your face, over and over again?

Why? He imagined Magnus would ask.

The answer was forever on the tip of Alec’s tongue, even if he'd never say it out loud.

2. What song from Love Run gradually grew on you?

Pruning Sheers. The first time I heard it, I thought it was too whimsical and out there for me (especially after the heaviness of the tracks before it) but I've come to love it just as much as all the others and actually appreciate its playfulness!

8. What lyrics make you smile?

"Oh sing me awake with all the things we'll do today, but instead we'll build a den out of pillows and get drunk again" It's such a fun and tender notion and if anyone were to ever suggest pillow forts and wine and daydreaming to me I would instantly be won over.

18. If you could pick one Love Run song to watch performed live, what would it be?

Ooh, that's a tough one. I'd say either New York Torch Song because you just know that Joey and Madeleine would absolutely tear it up for that, but also Not Yet/Love Run (Reprise) because it's my favorite!

Oooh. A Lot of them make me smile for different reasons. In pruning shears, the word “shindig”, “the latest and greatest lame campaign”, “you see this girl she looks like she crawled out of the lost and found”, “do each other’s laundry in our hearts sometimes” the overlapping lyric about shoes from oxfam, and “do you like my accent”. Those are fun to sing and make me smile. Hello!! It is me 💿 anon coming to ask you about the playlists of your newest fic! I saw you have ones for each character and was wondering if you have specific lyrics/songs that helped you develop each character? All the playlists that are out so far and fab btw!

💿 anon, my beloved!

first off, omg thank you!! second, yes, of course there's lots of character inspo that revolves around music! i find a lot of the time my fics come from song lyrics and sort of sprout from there —prey included. the whole fic was based around these lyrics from the neighbourhood’s song of the same name:

something is off, i can't explain you know what i mean, don't you? something i saw, or something i did that made me like this could you help me?

obviously i can’t go too into detail because that’ll spoil the fic but the lyrics definitely encompass avis and loki’s relationship as a whole. in the story they both feel sort of cast aside by the people they’re meant to be closest to and because of that, find a lot of comfort in one another during moments of solitude.

for loki, i have a whole playlist of songs that remind me of him but for prey specifically one song comes to mind that i definitely lean towards when forming his psyche/how others perceive him. that song being they don’t want by electric wire hustle.

pretty much the whole song is very prey-esque but specifically the first verse i think really encapsulates the overall first impression loki gets from most of the team:

all around this town people stop and stare i can feel their eyes upon me see it in the face, there's nobody there i've felt that look before they don't want me here

moving onto avis who, despite some subtle differences is still very similar to loki. they’re both lonely and stubborn and frankly, quite broken but are also in this constant state of trying to showcase themselves as essentially perfect individuals. they force others to perceive themselves as capable of dealing with anything when really they're just these fragile little guys who want to be loved.

that being said, a lot of loki songs definitely overlap but honestly i find avis to be a bit more vengeful? basically, in the story she has this level of externalized rage that loki tends to hide away rather than release, making her overall character a bit more brash as you might be able to hear in the playlist.

overall, i'd say there are two main songs that really brought avis's character to life. the first being destruction by joywave which i think is a good example of her relationship with SHIELD and how she consistently feels threatened by it's presence.

oh my god, there's nobody who can set me right i've been sent to torch the palace down in broad daylight i wanna know who you told 'til they're all laying on the floor frozen to the core i wanna know who you told till it's nobody anymore

moving on to the second one: stuck on the puzzle by alex turner is definitely a song that connects to both loki and [redacted]. not really a spoiler but both parties are very interested in avis for different reasons. and although the lyrics are very romantic in nature i kind of feel like they apply to both relationships in their own unique ways? if that makes sense?

any man who wasn't led away into the other room stood pretending

which finally brings me to [redacted] who i've gotten a lot of inquiries about. for obvious reasons i can't tell you a whole lot about them but just know they're essentially a deity that a particular group within the fic worship.

that being said, a lot of the songs that inspired their character are mostly just vibes. not a lot of songs contain a ton of words aside from desire - slowed by hucci which is a pretty on the nose description of how [redacted]'s seen by everyone outside of their group.

On the mountain tall: ok the drums go hard. The lyrics are rlly good. IM POGGING AGAIN AH! ITS RLLY GOOD AHHHH! ITS POTREY! THAT GUTAR CAME OUT OF NO WERE BUT I LOVE IT. GOD DAMIT ITS AMAZZING! ITS GIVING A MONTARAGE IF ALL THE GOOD THINGS AT THE END OF A MOVIE. 10/10 such a string start.

Torches: guitar. I'm bopping. Thought I heard procreate lol. It's giving that one song in a tavern everyone dances too in a fantasy series and I love it! 10/10. I'm singing! Ah how do they never miss!? Like wtf!? THE DRUMS AT THE END YES AHHHHH!

Planetarium stickers on a bedroom ceiling: oooo instrumental. Flutes nice. Feels magical if not mystic. 9/10 I prefer songs with lyrics but still rlly good.

Constellations: that previous song transioned to this one so nice that I didn't relise we changed the song. Imma be honest I've alr listened to this song but I still love it! 10/10 imma bop to this for now. That my fav song (for now).

Notos: the beat goes hard. The singer is amazing! Lyrics are rlly good! YOOOOOOO THAT MELODY YES!!! FUCK YES!!! also what's a notos? Imma look it up now....The Greek name for the south wind, sultry and rainy. Google says. Wow that's cool and amazing. Anyways YES AHHHHHHH THE SONG IS AMAZZING 10000/10 THIS IS MY FAV! Mandatory evac/counting cars: oh no it just changed songs lmao. I've been waiting for when the lyrics are gonna appear bit it's another instrumental song. The oh's are ethereal omg it's so pretty wtf!? 10/10. Such a nice song just wish it went on longer ngl.

New river: last song here we go. Guitar pretty good. I'm vibing. ALL THEIR VOICES ARE SO NICE TOGETHER YIPPEE! AHHHHH I LOVE THIS! ITS SUCH A VIBE YES! YEAHHHHH. 10/10 imma vibe for the rest.

Unconsciously scratching the itch, the butterfly tattoo is irritating his skin. A prickly sting radiates from its wings. It started the moment he entered this restaurant. Allergies? Must be! Why it's only the tattoo, he must have touched something then the tattoo. More pressing matters now appeasing his hunger. Where is the waitress? Waiter?

"Hello Sir, here is the menu" the waitress places the menu before him, and proceeds to fill his glass with iced water. "Are you ready to order? Or do you need time? Anything else to drink?".

Silence, he can only stare. "Okay I will give a few minutes to decide" she smiles warmly at him.

As she leaves he watches her, his eyes fixated on her gait her form, he consumes her whole, visually. She barely looked at him or acknowledged his presence bar that he is a patron to be served his meal. He on the other hand is thunderstruck, all the stars aligned, this is meant to be!. He knows not know why? But he knows it's his fate, his destiny. She is his kismet! One thing he notices is his tattoo has ceased to itch.

Ordering his usual spicy fare, his clumsy attempts to communicate anything other than his meal fall on deaf ears. She is courteous and delivers his meal with manners but that is, no time for idle chit chat, as she busily works at other tables. Her eyes seem so familiar to him but he knows that's an impossibility as this is their first meeting, her smile he swears she has graced this upon him previously but again an impossibility. While he enjoys his meal he watches her flit from table to table, like a butterfly he muses. Leaving a very generous tip he exits the restaurant with the vow known only to himself. He will watch and capture this elusive butterfly.

The parchment the sorcerer secured to his liege with the symbol, a butterfly. Lifetime after lifetime his unknown quest is the search for his butterfly. Forever bonded by ink.

hello i was given the opportunity to ramble about the amazing devil yesterday and i didn’t even know i had anything to say but i spent like 30 minutes talking about it so this is me giving you a chance to ramble about it if you would like <33 /p

i just want to start this off with: THEIR VOICES AAAAAAAA

together joey and madeleines voices just FIT, and the way they write and sing their songs is like- they've basically just perfected the art of duets. like they blend and move around each other so easily and so beautifully, even in the songs where it's mainly madeleines vocals you might get the occasional whisper or growl from joey or when it's predominantly joey you could still hear the occasional croon from madeleine and like i keep repeating: it's gorgeous and so well crafted.

separately. lord. madeleine's voice is just so pretty. it's got so much body and life to it, i love the soft growl at the edges of her words when she's singing low and then how sharp and clear it gets when she sings higher notes. she somehow sounds like woodsmoke and clear water and stars all in one.

and joey.... oof. the growl the fucking. earthiness in his low notes, sounds like digging your fingers into soft soil in the dark, and i love that you can hear his accent come through and when he gets to the higher notes it's the same as madeleine: it just gets so clear and there's so much strength behind it. i could listen to joey batey sing for hours and never get bored of it, there's just so much there to listen to

OKAY AND LIKE THE ACTUAL MUSIC???? it's just *clenches fists* the instruments could tell the stories in each song all on their own, and it just accompanies the vocals so well and it all just bleeds into one another and just creates the most beautiful imagery and really makes my synesthesia go off the rails (welly boots man. i could paint a whole series based on that song alone) i also love the little moments where you can hear them talking- like in new york torch song when you can hear the street sounds and then there's that bit where madeleine laughs at the end of her line, or at the end of the 'drinking song for the socially anxious' where joey is like ''oh i messed it up again, like three times'' and they laugh and it ends on him going ''for fucks sake'' or FUCKING UHH 'two minutes' (love that song) when it sounds like he's literally just sitting there in a crowded room playing the song and someone happened to record it it's just *shakes hands out* i adore it

ALSO THE LYRICS AND THE STORIES AND THE EMOTION JUST FUUUCCCKKKKK

i read this one post once that like. summed up the amazing devil in 2 ways and it was so true it was basically that like. the amazing devil either makes you feel like some otherworldly being, like you're capable of incredible inhuman things but then they can also make you feel so unbearably human and alive and real and it's so accurate because yeah compare a song like- uh- idk 'the horror and the wild' compared to 'fair' or 'marbles'

they encompass such different states of being or emotion and just. god. i love them i love this band i dont think i could ever get tired of listening to them

and im gonna end this weird little rant with this snippet from a review about the amazing devil's 2nd album The Horror and the Wild:

"The way the bewitching mystique lures you in with its dark tendrils. How the endearing playfulness of its droll wit warms your heart. The marvellous tales it weaves of romance and heartache. It’s a menacing snarl, a furtive whisper, a knowing smile and a joyous roar all at once."

these first few fanart ABCs (which i SWEAR i am still working on, i’ve just bitten off a lot with this next one and want to do it justice) ended up being redraws or just different approaches to the same concept. and boy do i love doing comparisons!! left column is “old”, right column in new; here are some thoughts! (IDs below the cut)

a. aradia: the original is a gif i made in 2013, back when, you know, i was reading homestuck. i think that’s actually the first property i was actively drawing fanart for, so it’s really nice to revisit. it’s also reeeally satisfying to see how my understanding of character drawing & anatomy has improved, but also how my approach to color & contrast has changed!

b. byleth: i made the first piece about a year ago (feb 2020) for fe3h songweek, based on “torches” by the oh hellos”. i wish i’d drawn byleth’s reflection, but the original also had song lyrics so i needed to keep the negative space. the new one isn’t a redraw (i still honestly really love the original! i think its communicating a lot very effectively, in a lot of different ways); it’s just a different take on byleth reckoning with the history and burden they’re being saddled with against their will. also im using a different brush to color these days ahah
