listen up cunts (australian for chucklefucks), just because we don't have rabies in Australia doesn't mean you should be slinging bats around willy nilly. especially mangey ones, got it?
Australian bat Lyssavirus is related to rabies and has very similar symptoms and mortality rates, so don't fucking do it! if you see a sick bat, call a wildlife rescue centre or registered bat handler, don't try handling it yourself, leave that cunt alone.
if you come into contact with a sick bat or are bitten by a bat, go see a doctor about it immediately or you're a fucking goner!
don't be a dumb cunt, don't handle bats.
was that good? i thought it was alright. I'm not a doctor and also this is a joke post but also please don't get ABLV or I'll be sad. also i can't do a stereotypical accent so this is the best I've got chief.

Julia. Julia unlike every other person in this Cave I doubt you’re up to date on your rabies vaccines.
Please go get up to date on your rabies vaccine.
Also the Clench and the updated Clench, even if this is New 52, those bats probably are still harbouring Special Bat Clench via not being rebooted between timelines and potentially still being a reservoir, is a special surprise that will pop out for the unsuspecting. What do you mean, New 52 hospitals don’t have the Clench vaccine? Better get onto the Order of St Dumas and get it faxed over! You’ll thank me later.

Ode to a dead baby bat
I do not know your cause of death,
The reason for your final breath
There's blood upon your dainty claw,
Your leather wings will flap no more
Forgive me for not touching you,
Except to nudge you with my shoe
I hope you know it wasn't hate
That made me kick you through the grate
I simply wished to give you rest
Away from those that call you pest

Man there’s so much room for expansion with Parasite in Love because you could just keep adding pathogens as new routes and whatever you choose to be exposed to is who’s route you get.
So obviously going to the lake is Naegleria fowleri. But say there was an option to accidentally step on a rusty nail? Or an option to open a suspicious envelope? Or scratch yourself on something? Or be bitten by a bat?
Ooh and maybe each pathogen would represent a different type of yandere 🥰🥰🥰

Toby:
Oak, birch, aspen trees, sunlight filtering through the leaves, the rush of the north wind. Babbling brooks and creeks, a trout jumping and splashing on the surface. Campfires, woodsmoke, ash and dust rising from a glowing plume into the starry night. Bonfires. House fires. Dumpster fires in the cold icy streets. Car exhaust and drunk drivers on empty lonely highways, flat energy drinks in the cup holders. The sound of splitting wood, cracking ice, falling stone. Granite sparkling in the dusk light. Icy cold fingertips pressed against your palm, nails gently biting your skin.
Kate:
Stale cigarette smell in old musty carpet. The clack of billiard balls against each other, quiet chatter and laughter, low blues music crackling through old speakers. Blues, classic rock, hard rock, headbanging to old punk music in the car with your friends, parked in the lot after a highschool game. Smiling so wide your cheeks ache. Pounding throbbing feet on concrete, the rough grooves of brick and mortar under your nails. The chokehold of terror in your chest, the moon through douglas firs and redwood trees. February breeze at 3am, cold air seeping under your jacket, the flannels of your pants. Cold fingers, cold toes, steaming hot water that stings like pure bliss. The taste of medicine that follows the ringing of an alarm.
Cody:
Larks and robins at 5am. The smell of black coffee and old books, the rustle of papers and shuffle of feet. Linoleum tile under leather doc marten soles. Rye grass and blue river water, stormy gray skies. The thwap of latex gloves against your wrist like a second skin. Bubbling, fizzing, foaming, colors shifting from green to gray to blue to orange. Apple slices as you scratch note after note onto old notebook paper. Losing your voice after screaming for hours, dull migraines and illusory palinopsia. Lyssavirus, crutzfeldt-jakobs disease, marburgvirus, all neatly labeled in perfect little vials. Lying in wait.

hello wise one
verily i am curious after seeing your rabies post,
and i am cross researching as i type this but i figured it would not hurt to ask is it possible for small animals, such as squirrels or rabbits to have rabies
is there poultry rabies
thank you
the galus galus domesticus anon
Rabies as a general rule only affects mammals, so in technicality... no, there is no bird rabies.
Scientists did test the theory by deliberately injecting birds with rabies virus. The birds were asymptomatic and recovered naturally without any help, but did develop antibodies post-exposure. Some birds also develop antibodies when feeding on the carcasses of rabies-infected mammals in the wild. We actually can use this information to track rabies outbreaks in wild mammals, because scavenger avians like crows and vultures will have antibodies from eating the corpses.
The running theory is that rabies as a virus binds itself to a very specific protein in the neurons of mammals that has a markedly different chemical makeup in non-mammals, so it can't really do anything once its in the body of anything that's not a mammal. It is possible for it to evolve to the point where it could affect birds, but again, rabies is a very old virus, one that possibly is as old as mammalian animals themselves (or if not specifically rabies, lyssaviruses which comprises an entire family that include rabies as one of its younger members), so one would think that if it was going to evolve to affect non-mammals it would have done so by now.
Small mammals like rodents can and do carry rabies, but at a significantly lesser rate than larger mammals. This is because quite frankly most rodents aren't going to survive being attacked by a much larger animal and so aren't going to live long enough to become contagious and spread the virus. Bats are the natural hosts of nearly every lyssavirus including rabies, so despite their small size they mostly get it from each other rather than other vector species. You are more likely to get hantavirus from rodents than rabies. This doesn't mean it's impossible- a friend's husband was attacked by a squirrel that did test positive- but it is significantly less likely than from a larger mammalian source.

A Cure For Solitude XIII
"This is a public announcement brought to you from your closest SCP. Please tune in for the latest medical news regarding the pandemic.
RIAD Type 2, also called Rabies Lyssavirus Autoimmune Disease, is a highly contagious virus which can be transmitted by saliva or blood, and it has no cure. It mainly affects the nervous system, altering its normal functions and destroying tissue.
Early symptoms of RIAD-2 can include moderate fever, excessive salivation, and migraines. The time period between contracting the disease and the onset of symptoms is usually from 24 hours to 2 days.
After the First Stage, the time before reaching the last stage depends on the distance the virus must travel along peripheral nerves to reach the central nervous system. For the average adult, this is at most 5 days.
By the Second Stage, the individual experiences a significant drop in temperature, alongside short-term memory loss and difficulty with speech. It is advised to quarantine after experiencing these symptoms.
After the Third Stage, it is mandatory to report to authorities. Symptoms include delirium, long-term memory loss, and tremors. At this stage of the disease, neurotransmitters will start failing, disconnecting the body from its core neuro-system. This can induce shock and cardiac arrest. The body will move without any biological response, cease breathing, and blood circulation will stop. Internal systems will fail, and tissue decay will begin. Most infected bodies can no longer move independently and will succumb to cardiac and respiratory failure, beginning the process of decomposition. Do not approach a Phase Three individual under any circumstances, even if unresponsive. The individual can still move on impulse and is highly contagious.
In the final Fourth Phase, if not deceased by now, the individual may exhibit an agitated, if not aggressive, state. Their remaining human cells, while decaying, will seek organic matter as a replacement. Individuals past the third and fourth phases are violent, uncooperative, and highly contagious. They are no longer alive and cannot be saved; they need to be properly disposed of. Please maintain a distance within the secure perimeter and alert the authorities of any possible breach.
Stay inside, stay put. Stay safe.
Now, onto the weather-"
