I too am very excited for when Maddie or Will or any ranger finally get to declare themself “Queen’s Ranger”, but knowing Flanagan, he’s probably not going to just let that powerful moment be. It’ll probably go like

a) a ranger stumbles over their words since it’s force of habit to say “King’s Ranger”, and Flanagan is going to make it a weird “not that there’s anything wrong with a female ruler!!” type of moment

b) the corps is still going to be called “King’s Rangers” because that’s their legal title

c) we are all going to die long before Flanagan gets the balls to kill off Duncan and let Cassandra be queen

Headcanon

That stale fish Horace had to imagine he had under his nose to look dignified and mysterious was actually an inside joke between Halt and Caitlyn. Cait made it up when they were kids and Halt had to make public appearances and put on faces he didn't understand.

Years after the eighth book, Horace passed the pro-tip on to Maddie.

Another couple of years later, Maddie told Halt about this method when they were preparing for Cassandra's coronation. She never found out why he looked so weird then...

I’m not sure why I’ve been on the Gilan train recently, but it’s been nice! Here’s Uncle Gil and baby Maddie, the adorable duo.

I got a new drawing tablet and I’ve been practicing in Procreate instead of CSP. I still haven’t figured it out quite yet and it’s been immensely frustrating to fail over and over again, but being able to draw on the go is quite handy. My artwork might not be to the painting quality yet on this new software, but I’ll keep trying!

Of course, when I need to study my head comes up with Ranger's apprentice headcanons.

So, we all know, like, one day Duncan is gonna be dead for real and Cassandra needs to become queen. So when that day comes, they'll have her coronation, in which they put a crown upon her head and people start to yell LONG LIVE THE QUEEN. Of course, as she would now be the official crown princess of Araluen, Maddie needs to participate in this entire ceremony as well, in which she has to promise to uphold Araluen's laws and principles as crown princess, to advice her mother in decisions when necessary, bladiebladiebla.

BUT

Of course, as the Ranger Corps is pretty very fucking much fond of Cassandra and Horace, while Cassandra walks down the path in the thrown room to be you know, crowned queen of Araluen, ranger's in their respective cloaks are lined up along the path, making the way free for her and smiling at her, and as Maddie has to follow her parents she spots Gilan, Halt that fucker is not dead yet bitches in this scenario he is very much alive and Will in the line-up who are all smiling at her with their OMG YOU'RE GONNA BE SO GREAT faces and then when Cassandra has been crowned, they will be the ones yelling the loudest LONG LIVE THE QUEEN of everyone in the throne room and Maddie locks eyes with Will during this part of the ceremony, silently admitting that her careless years of roaming Araluen on her horse Bumper are over but Will silently responds that she's gonna be an amazing crown princess and Maddie feels super proud that Will thinks she's going to do well. And oh yes I also believe that the day Madelyn discovers Halt is actually royalty, she will bluntly refuse to accept that fact because how in the name of the gods was that crownprince of Clonmel once.

Ok so I remember Flanagan mentioned at some point that originally, Horace was supposed to be an antagonist/rival to Will, but decided to change that and make them friends partway through book 1 instead.

Anyway, in TRR5 I believe, Maddie ends up winning a duel against some Gallic knight by literally running in circles around him and sending a barrage of arrows at his helmet. Afterwards, Will makes a comment to her, saying he was actually thinking of using that same technique against her father when they were younger.

Was that Flanagan saying he was planning on writing that scene before he decided to make them friends? Or do you think that was entirely Will’s character?

So, here is the question. Objectively, do you think who is the Better Ranger, Halt or Will? I know that Halt says Will is the best Ranger but he is a biased proud father so what do we think? Personally I think Halt had a very unorthodox training and the fact that he is as much and maybe better than Will is is impressive regarding his past. But what d you think?

I very rarely share my OCs, but I'd like to introduce Bianca!

She's Genovesan by trade, and seems to exist only to haunt Will's worst nightmares--after all, she is dating his niece. She and Maddie met during a mission where they were both assigned to the same location, and ended up saving each others lives multiple times over. By the time they realized they were falling in love, it was far to late for them to consider the implications of a Genovesan and Ranger being together.

And so after a series of misfortunes (and a lot of rule breaking), Bianca comes to Araluen to pursue a definitely legal and not at all probationary position with the Diplomatic Corps. She sometimes loans her skills out to educate the Rangers on how to treat poison, and she tries her best to make nice with all of Maddie's guardians. But this particular wild child tends to lead Maddie well off the usual path for a royal princess!
