Second: any that focus on the baby foxes—aside from just Neil punching Jack?

All the older foxes have stories that go more into their character, we can see why they are assholes (and almost excuse them). Any for the baby foxes (particularly Jack) like this?

Alternatively, any where the older foxes are held accountable for their asshole actions? (Andrew forcing Aaron’s withdrawal, the chocking incident, the speedballs, Matt’s attacking Kevin for stuff that isn’t his fault, Nicky’s kissing Neil, Andrew’s drugging of anyone he considers suspicious, etc.)

wait id love to hear your rant about how fanon deals with the race in tfc fics/fanon's of everyone else’s race :0

I would like to start this response with the fact that I do not believe anyone is being intentionally harmful in their race head cannons, simply that people tend to follow Fanon blindly and I believe people should not do that, and remember Fanon is only Fanon and we should make our own ideas and stray from the pack more often.

Okay, my thoughts on common race headcanons for the foxes and how they are often accidentally racist:

I know @bloodydamnit has spoken up about this before, but people specifically portraying Seth as black falls into a lot of unhealthy anti-black stereotypes of black men, especially the lack of development people tend to give him. She has written him and deconstructed these issues from her perspective and me a non-black person don’t think I could ever achieve such a thing and therefore do not headcanon him or will write him as black.

I personally headcanon him as hard Vietnamese and half white and made a long post about him before, I love Seth.

Matt and Dan are also often written as black, this isn’t inherently problematic necessarily, but it does often overlook the issue that people see this likely because of Matt’s history with drugs and Dan’s sex work playing into anti-black stereotypes without a tally going into race theory or redlining or any of the following issues in a way that gives them any development.

I like to headcanon Matt as Filipino, his straight hair is perfect for spiking, and dan as 75% black and 25% Oceti Sakowin (commonly known as Sioux), I want to write about how her leaving the reservation was a big deal for her, especially at the 25% mark which means if she is with anyone who isn’t of the same tribe her kids would not be considered a part of the tribe since the US minimum to register is 25% and this was part of her hesitance to be with Matt as well as other pressures. I like to think the baby her aunt had in the EC she ends up adopting from the foster system and that baby is 75% Oceti Sakowin and Matt is super excited to learn about their traditions and bring in both indigenous Filipino culture that he got disconnected with as well as Oceti Sakowin culture that she got disconnected with into their lives with their unexpected kid.

Renee is often headcanoned as Asian, but typically just generally Asian without nuance or explanation and also this plays into the passivity stereotype of Asian women. I headcanon her has African American, with very dark skin and Stephanie Walker was the first black foster mom she had and they hit it off really well, also Renees hair is a wig, no one can bleach their hair to white that’s just… it melts before it does that usually.

Again I’m not saying Renee can’t be Asian, It can be done right and written well, but overall I think it’s important for people to remember why they headcanon things and not accept Fanon blindly. Fanon often plays into harmful ideas. While people of color don’t have to have a reason for being people of color, I think it’s important to notice why you think charters who aren’t described at all are whatever race you headcanon and think critically. Our cultures and races make us experience the world in a certain way that contributes to who we are outside of blanket diversity, and it is important to think about that.

I often see people saying they headcanon Womack as Native American to make him having the tribal tattoos “unracist”, and to make Nora not racist, but Nora wasn’t being racist by saying Womack has tribal tattoos, Womack having shitty Tates in tattoos, which faux tribal was a huge cultural staple despite how cringe it is from the 90’s to mid 2000’s in America. It’s important also to not just say Native American but to do research on specific groups because each culture is unique and different.

That being said, I bounce back between Wymack just being some 70’s looking dad with cut off shorts to Maori where the swirl tattoos are very significant, and Kevin is white-passing but discovered he’s not white like he thought he was, and becomes an AOA history major (Africa, Oceana, Americas, aka indigenous history major).

Also considering Neil and Allison are supposed to be significantly attractive I don’t like them being white because of that, so I headcanon Allison as half middle eastern, (or maybe Indian I have more research to do before I decide), she was told she was adopted as a kid and often her mom would buy her whitening cremes like fair and lovely as a kid, but later found some papers when she was older finding out her dad actually got a woman pregnant and to keep her quiet took Allison and pretended he was such a good philanthropist and adopted a brown kid. She has a lot of problems with this, and bleaches her hair blond to try and fit in with her family without even realizing it. She never finds out who her birth mom is

I am a bit annoyed at white fans constantly calling Nora racist, while also using the lightest skinned headcanons every time for black characters playing into colorism and Spanish Nickys instead of darker toned people. Also, I think people should really try to critically think about their own ideas before calling out someone else. Do I think Nora is perfectly woke? No, no one is, but Fanon is just as bad but in a different way. There is a lot of colorism I see in both headcanon photos people use for the foxes as well as people tending to draw looser curls and thinner noses for characters they headcanon as black. Not every black person is half white and darker-skinned rep is very important. I’ve also seen people use Reece king as a Nicky face claim before and I wasn’t even surprised.

I've also seen people almost always have Erik be “Aryan” some even using the word to describe him unironically, and as a Jewish person this obviously doesn’t sit right with me. I would like to see less straight passing blond haired blue eyed taller than Nicky Erik sometimes.

Again I’m not calling anyone racist, I just think that people should go outside Fanon and think of their own ideas on who they want the characters to be in their headcanons and why. I'm tiers of the same 4 Instagram model photos being used for every Aftg edit, the same light-skinned Dan’s, Matt’s, and Nicky’s. Also while I’m at it, add some body diversity, they’re athletes all playing different positions, I think all the defense players are at least chubby if not plus size. Aaron, Andrew, and Renee are all fat and proud, Nicky and Matt are bulkier with their bodies good for blocking, while Seth is an awkward string bean, an offensive striker who can slip through people quickly despite his height.

Again I know discussions about race can be tense, I am not trying to sound like I am attacking anybody, and I'm not calling out anyone in particular, I didn't even touch on how nicky is written in fanon or canon and how it can often be both racist and homophobic coming from my prospective as a gay latino.

She let her blog die off by 2015. 5 years later on vacation I find out she used to have a blog. I made her dig it up so I can send her posts. My blog’s title is “Just Another Book Blog.” Turns out her blog’s title is “Just Another Uni Girl.” We died of laughter. Tragically we can now never change them.

To the Creators of Red Rabbits:

Red Rabbits was a project that I was really excited to read (and watch the rrp blog) but I was so pleasantly surprised to become part of the fandom in a more "real" way with interactions between fellow aftg and rr fans. I felt motivated to create seven OCs (SEVEN!!!!) and I am now working towards an original project of my own.

That's all because of Red Rabbits and the fact that it was an interactive fic.

And such a BIG THANK YOU to y'all for putting so much effort in every week, and to all the audio and art and in character blog posts and answers to questions. You blew my mind every time something was posted, and I really felt like I was seeing the Foxes running a podcast and that was just so! cool! I got drawn into this story and it was amazing to watch as more and more people joined the discord server and I am also super glad to meet more people in this fandom because I feel a little bit more confident in trying to contribute to this fandom (I haven't ever created anything for a fandom. ever. so... Wow, y'all)

So. It dawned on me today that most of November is behind me (us? The collective we? Don’t look at me like that I don’t know how to English anymore) and the year is almost over. It crept up on me and I didn’t even notice. It’s not really that big of a deal except this is the first November in 5 years that I’m not in the middle of a crippling depressive episode.

I’ve always thought of my depression like the ocean, in tides and waves. In the brighter parts of the year, the tides were easier to manage. Once I learned I had depression, I went to therapy, I figured out coping mechanisms and I began the arduous, intensely weird, and often painful process of relearning who I am. But there was something about autumn and winter that turned a high tide into a hurricane. I don’t know if it’s the long nights, or the cold or the frankly disgusting displays of happy perfect families during the holidays. I have a lot of thoughts about families and traditions but that’s a different train of thought. But for the past 5 years, as soon as November rolled around, my mind was a hurricane and I was drowning. Last year was the worst of them and I really wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for @bloodydamnit @jeni182 and @seabearthirteen. Our ridiculous, hilarious and absolutely wonderful group chat that spawned a fanfic helped me keep my head above water until the tides started to recede. They are my safe harbor, a secure place to poke and prod my fairly dormant creative side and a place to celebrate the triumphs in life. I was built up by them and I helped to build them up. I was accepted, warts and all. Plus they never failed to make me laugh. They’re amazing people that I am so so so blessed to call my friends. Honestly. These women as so badass and incredible and I love them so much. I’ll forever be grateful for them.

But back to what I was saying earlier, the end of this year so far has been clear of monstrous storms. Everything is normal. The water is still and calm and if I cared to look, my reflection would look like me. And it’s interesting because I was talking to my friend (basically he’s my brother) ((he was one half of my support system when I found out/realized I have depression. He does too.)) and he made a comment about how this is how it’s supposed to be. That this is how life is when depression isn’t clawing at your throat and dragging you beneath the water. I don’t know why I found it so interesting. Maybe it’s because somewhere along the way when I was a teenager I forgot what a normal autumn/winter/holiday season felt like. Maybe because I’ll actually start believing people when they say ‘it gets better.’ Maybe it’s because of the friendships I gained in what is easily the lowest point of my life have only become stronger and more vibrant.

I don’t know if there was a specific reason I decided to ramble on tumblr. I just felt like words were pouring from my seams and this is what made it to paper. Digital paper. Whatever. I have no idea. I am a ball of emotions I’m still working to untangle. But I know a couple things now. Depression really fucking sucks. Storms come to an end. My friends are cooler than your friends. And I really don’t know what anyone was thinking letting have free reign on the internet. I ramble. A lot.

Updated Red Rabbits Guide!

Hello there! So, we’ve noticed that we’re getting a ton of new readers!!! Since so much time has passed and lots of new things have happened, I thought we should update this for those who are just hopping on the RRP train!

Everything still stands!! The episodes and audio notes still follow the same format, but there have been a few minichapters in between, and chapters that show insight to Andrew and Neil’s story. The differences are always said in the authors notes, so you never get lost!!!

Hello everyone! So, I’ve seen a few people lost, confused, or scared to ask about where to start with Red Rabbits! I know it’s a bit confusing to start at first, especially since there’s so much going on. So here is an updated guide! (It looks really long. It’s not, I just ramble. That’s how we got to 20k words in 2 chapters. lol)

Reminder that Red Rabbits spans across several platforms. However, if you prefer to just stick with the fic, you totally can! There will be summaries of the past week from posting during Andrew’s Audio Notes! So no worries. If you do not want to interact with the social medias, you totally don’t have to!

What is Red Rabbits?

Red Rabbits is an investigative journalism!au, in which Andrew Minyard starts a podcast to find out what happened to Mary and Nathaniel Wesninski when they disappeared ‘15′ years ago. Set in current times and after the wildly popular documentary, The Butcher (by Edgar Allen Productions), we follow Andrew on his journey and Neil on his escape, for/from the truth.

^^^^^^^ If I listed all 23 chapters, this post would be even longer than it is. But, every piece of evidence is linked in the chapter either in the authors, or end notes, so they’re easy to find.^^^^^^^^

On the blog and twitter, you will also be kept up to date with all Andrew’s whereabouts, as well as any announcements and updates from the RR team, also ‘evidence’, ‘audio clips’, photographs, art, character sketches (in the future), etc! I make evidence for every chapter! And we post new things throughout the week! This follows directly with the storyline and will be summarized every other week in Andrew’s Audio Notes! Again, you can make it through RR without it! It’s not necessary. But this is just a fun extra step that you can take if you wish :)

Posting:

We post once a week, every Sunday. If there is a delay, we will keep you posted on both Twitter and Tumblr. With that being said, we alternate between Neil and Andrew chapters. Neil’s chapters will always be titled ‘Episode:____’, while Andrew’s will be ‘Audio Notes #____’.

This, for now, is just a fanfiction. Interactive! Yes, but there will not be full audio podcasts. I handle all the audio and art for this project and it’s a lot of work, as well as being demanding for our voice actor! With that being said, if you see photos of the apple podcast app, that is edited! For the purposes of immersion in the fic! So, just keep that in mind that this is a written fic with a lot of other elements. We do have audio clips though! (posted above and found in our directory!) And we hope to continue making them :)

There are also a ton of fan accounts out there engaging with this world! This page was updated a few days ago and there have been many more made since then, but here is a small list that I hope to update regularly! You can hop on their blogs to see memes, mood boards, extremely detailed timelines and notes for each episode, etc!

In that same vein, we have a discord for RR! Quick updates, sneak peeks, access to a brief timeline and world directory are on there as well. You can interact with other RR peeps, create your own oc, interact with the world, conspire, come up with theories, etc! It is welcome for everyone! DM me for a link and I would be happy to send you an invite!

If you don’t want to join the discord, our inbox @redrabbitspod is open for any leads, inquiries, etc. As well as our email, which you can send your ‘leads’ (we’ve already gotten some good ones. omfg) [email protected]! Keep in mind that on the RRP blog, we are all in character. So if Andrew is an ass to you, don’t take it personally lol! It’s his job :)

Also! If you choose to engage with the RR world in any way, know that you have the potential to alter the story! This is interactive! You, as a reader/’listener’ play a part! We have a set direction this story goes in with several important events, but a lot of you are altering how we do things! So get creative and have fun! Just remember, you only know what is on the blogs, twitter, and what Andrew explicitly tells you in the chapters. Remember to read the authors notes at the beginning of the chapters to understand what we mean!
