Alexander hunting lions on the marble Alexander Sarcophagus, 4th century BC.

From the Royal Necropolis of Sidon.

His hair, lips and eye contours were in red brown. His head has indentations for attaching a royal diadem.

The youthful head with short wavy fringe and long loose curls falling down over the nape of his neck, the sockets of his eyes deeply cut originally to have taken inlays, with sensitively modelled 'rings of Venus' on his neck, traces of brown painted gesso on some of the curls, mounted.

The head was believed to have come from Hermopolis (the city of Hermes), modern day Ashmunein.

The dinosaur faunus lead a reclusive existence away from Menagerie and the other continents on the dragon-shaped continent they know as Olynthus. This is not a choice; it is a matter of their survival. Although they are believed to have been extinct for centuries, they simply fled hunters seeking their rare traits and other faunus believing them to be far worse predators, liars, thieves, killers and so on than conventional faunus. They fled to the relatively abandoned continent and began a program of selective breeding to reduce the obviousness of their traits; while some dinosaur faunus are born with exorbitant traits, such as tails almost as long as their own body or mouths full of dagger-like teeth, they can now be more easily passed off as traits from other reptile species. The dinosaur faunus do not prevent their children from leaving to experience other cultures or join a huntsman academy, but teach them how to hide themselves, often giving them fake papers and aliases to avoid leading any unsavoury groups back to Olynthus and the dinosaur faunus.

It should be noted that the faunus live exclusively on the ‘wing’ of the dragon continent. In tying with the popular headcanon that the Land of Darkness and Salem’s castle are found on that continent, the tribes must contend frequently with attacks from highly advanced, powerful Grimm. The lands they live on are all they are able to defend; all attempts to expand their borders and make further explorations into the continent have been beaten back and brutally ended by powerful Grimm as, though they don’t know it, they are getting closer to Salem’s fortress.

The territories of Olynthus are split into six official tribes. Brenyn Grimlock, a Tyrannosaur faunus with a predominant scale trait, is the chief of Oikos, the land of the Tyrannosaur and primary apex predator tribe. Keres Tegwen, a Cryolophosaurus faunus with a tail trait, is the chieftainess of Madytos, the land of the secondary apex tribe for those who need a cooler climate to survive. This tribe is matriarchal. Neifion, a Spinosaurus faunus with a sharp teeth trait, is the chief of Amnisos, a coastal and oceanic territory for the water-based faunus. Owein, a Triceratops faunus with a horn trait, is the chief of Rhithymna, the territory of the Triceratops tribe. Aina, an Ankylosaurus faunus with a spines trait, is the chieftainess of Thyrea, the territory of the Ankylo faunus. Finally, Galine, an Amargasaurus faunus with a scales trait, is the chieftainess of Orestias, the territory for the remaining herbivores. She can typically be found wearing long flowing dresses, alluding to the Armargasaur’s sail-like crest.

There is also one unofficial tribe, excommunicated and exiled from all faunus lands in Olynthus: the nomadic Majungasaurus tribe, lead by their chief Mirrikh, a Majungasaur faunus with a twin crest trait from the top of their head to the small of their back. They were exiled for indulging in rampant cannibalism and taking pleasure in the act; Mirrikh accentuated this fact by filing his teeth to points, throwing his tribe’s sentence back in Olynthus’ faces. It remains unknown to all, including Sabre and his team, but the Majungasaurs have allied themselves with Salem, working as underlings for her in exchange for all Olynthus when Salem’s plans succeed.
