Stroking the Ego

We both learn Spanish so we do Spanish bits any time we can. The prompt here was "Acariciarse el ego – Echokammer" and stroking one's ego seems an expression in all languages I know so I went with that; if Ego was a creature I bet it'd be a cat. I lassoed the shapes over a quick sketch, and afterwards applied a poster filter in Photoshop (I don't always enjoy line drawings so have to use workarounds for that to keep my sanity). I took some back and forth and touchups trying to get that right but I like how it turned out.

The challenge: I absent-mindedly complained to my significant other that I missed doing challenges because I hadn't gotten around to any in '23. He was happy to provide me with a multi-lingual list of prompts the likes of which I hadn't seen before and gave me a schedule until the end of year I couldn't possibly keep - who has time for art during the winter holidays when there are games that need playing and way too much food to think creatively? But I went on regardless. I decided before that I wanted to start working with a more reduced and clearer style than my usual paintings; I would love to get into editorial illustrations. I worked in Photoshop, Painter, and Rebelle; leaving out trad tools to speed things up.

THE ART OF TECH-NOIR -- THE ART OF A LOS ANGELES NEWSSTAND IN 2019 A.D.

PIC(S) INFO: Spotlight on fictional/in-universe magazine covers from the sci-fi/neo-noir film "Blade Runner" (1982), directed by Ridley Scott. The covers were created by production illustrator Tom Southwell, c. 1980-1981.

OVERVIEW: "The magazine covers you appear quite normal — if beautiful — at first, but it's only once you take a closer look that you see that there's something different about them. Much like an Easter egg in a video game, the makers of "Blade Runner" took the opportunity to have some fun when it came to populating the movie's fictional world of the future. Even the most devout fans who've watched Ridley Scott's masterpiece several times over (there are more versions of the movie than you can count on a hand) wouldn't recognize these magazine covers — as they hardly make an appearance on screen and are relegated to a newsstand of the future.

As The Atlantic's Alexis Madrigal found through his own entertaining Google searches on the subject, the covers were first shared with the world in one of the film's bonus features, "Signs of the Times: Graphic Design," and were created by production illustrator Tom Southwell. With subtitles like "Earthlings Pay Big $ to see Future" teasing moviegoers who shelled out to see Blade Runner, we only wish we could see what lay beyond these covers."

So there was a post that suggesting using the search engine Wiby and I've been perusing the random button and found a few websites I either think are amazing or a little fun/ny:

Magazineart: Has an archive of magazine covers and ads ranging from pulp to sports magazines.

Fursuit.me: A fursuit database? There's like...THOUSANDS of uploads and it's kinda fun to browse and see how long people have been working on their stuff.

ImperialSystemHateClub: Someone's reasons for hating the Imperial measurement system.

FlameWarriors: Some guy who moderated a forum and watched a flame war go down and catalogued the different types of people he saw during the flame war lol

LostParks: Some forgotten florida attractions with pictures

CthulhuFiles: A website dedicated to the lovecraftian stuff and has a lot of info on the monsters and different lore

TophersBreakfastCerialCharacters: Someone who really loves cereal
