MTG Plane Concept: Paramount City

Elevator pitch: Superheroes in MTG

The story is set in Paramount City, a metropolis rivaling New Capenna (though still dwarfed by Ravnica). It's a thoroughly modern city, though with touches that make it fit with Magic's design aesthetics. In this world, there's a mysterious force called the Rift that drives people to extremes of both good and evil. Some people can tap into the Rift through various methods (inborn talent, actual magic, gadgets, intense training, etc), and those people are called Supers. Using Rift is aided by adopting an archetypal identity, especially if you keep it separated from your "normal" identity, hence all the wild costumes and names.

Mechanically, the set would be factional based on arcs. However, rather than "centered" arcs (one color+its allies) it's more like "split" arcs (enemy colors+their mutual ally). This means that each faction is pulled in two different directions by opposing goals, fitting the theme of split identities. Also, although there are five factions, there's a pretty strong good/evil split, with the faction centered on Blue as a spoiler.

Those factions are:

The Metropolitan Defenders (Defenders, GWU): The big damn heroes. The ones you think of when you hear the word "hero." They're the most morally upright team, holding themselves and others to the highest standards of ethics (W). Their internal divide is between serving the people (G) or upholding the law (U).

The People's Underground (Underground, RGW): Split off from the Defenders years ago over ideological differences. A loosely affiliated network of neighborhood protectors, vigilantes, and others who skirt up to the edge of the law. They're dedicated to protecting the people of the city (G), but are split over whether to pursue justice (W) or vengeance (R) against those who would cause harm.

The Breakers' Union (Breakers, BRG): Originally started by disgruntled henchmen, they're an alliance of small-time crooks, anarchists, and others who find themselves on the wrong side of the law. They defy the system almost on principle (R), but are torn between whether they should do something about it (G) or just serve their own self-interest (B).

The Council of the Rift (Council, UBR): The Council are a contentious group of malefactors who all seek to exploit the Rift for their own ends. They're willing to employ any methods to pursue their own personal power at the expense of everyone else (B). Though some wish to use it to remake the world in their own image (U), others would rather just see the world burn (R).

Initiative Omega (Omega, WUB): An organization of scientists, soldiers, and spies formed by the government in response to the rise of Supers. Omega sees both sides as dangerous and disruptive to the status quo. To that end, they seek to understand the Rift as much as possible (U), though whether they'll use it for the betterment of mankind (W) or to eliminate all Supers (B) is still up in the air.

I'll maybe go more in-depth on this idea later, just want to get it out there for now and see if people like it

Starfall City is a roleplay server that is based around the idea of yanderes, their rivals, and valentines! The server is for those who want to find people who also enjoy dark tropes, and most importantly, for people to roleplay with their OCS in intense - or normal! - scenarios!

This is an ask-blog for lore questions or general questions about the server! You can ask if there are important characters to the lore ( any characters apart of lore are ones created by staff and staff alone ), where yanderes might've come from, ect. or if you don't want to ask about lore, you can ask questions about events/share ideas, how members are, what we do on the server for fun, theories, ect! Be curious and creative with your questions :)

･｡ﾟ ☆☽ What is our server's lore?

The server is about Starfall City, one of the world's most famous “accepting” cities. The general world lore surrounding Starfall City contains non-humans, magic-users, and everyday humans; Non-humans and magic users are treated as less than in most places around the world, but there are a few cities and safe places in select countries where they can go to escape the judgment and live freely; Starfall happens to be one of those cities!

Starfall is beautiful, there's no denying it, but that's only on the surface. It may come off as being an accepting city, open and safe to non-humans and magic users alike, aided by having the population evenly split between all three groups, but what the outside media isn't aware of - and somehow is never exposed to -, is how Starfall is no better than every other place in the world. Discrimination is still prevalent within the city, yet, how come nobody outside seems to know what's going on inside?

In more recent years, "Yanderes" - obsessive, and potentially dangerous, people who are searching for the target of their attention, "Valentines" - have begun to appear, again. Yanderes have been around for longer than time can tell, and they've been found in nearly every corner of the world. There are ideas of where Yanderes might've originated, but nobody can seem to agree on a theory. The most surprising thing of all though, is that, with these rising cases, most of them are from Starfall - though, this is unknown to normal outsiders. Thanks to these Yandere cases, Starfall's also had an increase in missing peoples cases; the city's government is turning a blind eye to this for some reason, and no matter what people do, none of the shit that happens in Starfall city is able to be exposed to outsiders.

Nobody knows why this is happening or how it was allowed to fester to get to how it is now, but something that's for certain is that this city isn't what it seems.

Starfall City is a 15+ server, so if you aren't 15 or older, please don't join!! We aren't an NSFW RP server, so no NSFW RPS will be allowed. At the same time, slightly suggestive jokes about characters (from media. Try not to make these about OCS unless the creators are comfortable with it) are alright. But again, please no NSFW RPs and no NSFW images, gifs and the like. We also - and we hope you don't mix this up somehow - aren't an IRL yandere server. This is all fictional and meant to be a fun place to talk about dark tropes, and roleplay said tropes, IN FICTION! Please don't do any of this kind of stuff irl!!! that's common knowledge, but some people clearly don't understand that!! So please don't join this looking for a "real yandere".. thank you.

Another important thing to note is that we are an OC-only server. so no characters from existing media are allowed (IE. you cannot submit Hannibal Lecter as a character). Its important to point out as well, but when subbing your character, please follow our rules (and please, at the very least, have your ocs' personality be 5 sentences minimum...)! Read lore and FAQ (in the server) so that way it saves everyone the trouble of having to fix things! If you are confused about how to fill the sheet out, you can always ask (and check out our guides in the pinned msgs of oc help!) I’m an avid piercing/tattoo enjoyer, while having some myself. I enjoy hearing about others’ experiences and own products of such. it's almost midnight and ive been really tired this past week from starting choreo for rehersals... apologies if this is incomprehensible

ok so. there's this thing that causes magic to exist in the world. im thinking of calling it the Veil or something?

anyway it made its way to this world somehow (they still tryna figure that out) and its magic kinda trickles into this world, and is the cause of magic.

theres all different kinds of magic people and stuff.

vampires

werewolves

telepaths

telekenetics

mages

witches

wizards

mermaids/sirens

faeries

elementals

uhmmm ssometing to do with the moon and stars i havent figure this one out

magic users

shifters

time jumpers

gods and goddesses kind of

elves

demons

magic users can (usually) use one type of magic at all, and there's certain kinds who can use any at any given point

magic users with one magic set/skill are called "singles" or "tals"

(some can do multiple types, but only one very well)

the term "singles" comes from only being able to use a single type of magic (creative i know) and "tals" comes from the word "talent" because, often, talent is natural and the type of magic a tal can use is natural and cannot be chosen

magic users who can use any are often called "jacks" or "nons"

the types of magic you can use as a magic user are:

mending

a mender can usually do one or two of the following: healing (living flesh), stitching (mending non living things), and melding (sewing two things together i.e. making a piece of wood and metal attach to each other)

plant [see image one at end of post]

can manipulate plants, self explanitory

light

can make bursts of light, alter how someone's eyes are percieving light, and ultimately turn invisible

mind

can manipulate people's thoughts (to an extent), and can read minds, basically

molding

and shape and mold material with bare hands

animal

can talk to animals, and on rare occasians, posses some animal abilities (i.e. can jump higher, hear better, see more, ect.)

shadow

can manipulate and move shadows, and essentially turn into one)

veil

can manipulate and move the veil itself, altering some aspects of magical reality for a small amount of time

speaking

very VERY exstensive vocal ranges, can use their voices to manipulate objects

ok so most other magical species can also use some of these to an extent, they cant get anywhere near as good as a magic user, but there is a skill set there.

telekenetics can move shit with their mind, and there are two "types" of telekenetics. some who are more down to earth or attatched to materialistic things have parts of their physical body glow when they activatr their powers, [see images two and three at bottom of post] and they have a band of like light that floats and shit, and telekenetics who are more spiritual and shit have a kind subtle of feel to them, but no glow. all telekenetics have a band of light floaty magic.

faeries are pretty much what you think. based in celtic mythology and that shit. there are mulitple types and stuff.

elves have pointed ears, are naturally good at nature-based magic types, and are very like,,, magic dense. they have very overpowering auras, especially to telepaths and mind magic users.

theres a certain species who believes those with vitiligo are blessed by the moon goddess. more on that in the works

elementals are also probably what you think. thwy can do water, earth, fire, or air based magic. some other-based magic people can also use an elemental based magic, but never to a very high extent.

plant magic users are different from earth elementals, but there are similarities, which makes it easier for either type to use the other as a subtype magic

werewolves. packs. packs are family, they dont "have" to shift on full moons, but the full moon does make them feel really good. like drugs without the drugs part. packs are family, but not neccesarily blood family. any werewolf can start a pack. the pack alpha is the leader of the back, next on heirarchy is the beta and then everybody else. dont even try to relate this to a/b/o i will murder you.

vampires have clans, they are (neccessarily) blood-sucking monsters. some do go crazy but that is under dire circumstances. getting turned does not mean you're dead (technically), but you age much slower. [see image four at end of post]

time jumpers are like time travellerrs kinda but also not really, unlike time travellers (which dont exist really) who move through time on a back and forth highway-esque situation, time jumpers move through time as though it as though it were a like, spider web? i dont quite know how to explain it uhhh. time travellers, in theory, just force reality to move them though time, while time jumpers ask reality nicely to mold them through to where they wanna go, i guess.

shifters are people who have a certain animal (fantastical or not) that they cna shapshift into (what do you mean this is obviously influenced by me being alterhuman idk what youre talking about). shifters uusually have some nonphysical traits that relate to their shifting type (i.e. a dragon shifter might hoard things, a cat shifter mightt be easily startled and chase things, a crow shifter might trade you small trinkkets as thanks).

demons are beings made of magic, which makes them really dangerous because thay are literally made of, and have full control over, something that magic users hardly have a grasp on

OK ONTO WORLDBUILDING (theres a lot less of this kinda stuff here rn)

theres a whole separate magical world with a like hiding in plain sight kinda vibe. they ustilize the natural way the Veil moves alongside ming and light magic to hide it from non-magical people.

an academy (no name yet) exists where magical people can attend to learn more about their magic and hone it and stuff, there's magic based sports events and stuff as well.

a kind of research institute exists to study magic andt the Veil. some might call them unethical ubt it's. whatever.

people who go to the academy for longer than four years do often end up as a researcher.scientist at the institute.
