My comments:  A dreamy, beautifully written fairy tale that will leave you with a vivid and ethereal image (I'd LOVE to see art of this). 'Fae lan wangji' is a FABULOUS tag. The whole story is fae.

Excerpt:  ...there’s a knock on his door.

In the middle of the night. All he can think of is it must be one of his neighbors- though none live within a li of him- coming with some terrible emergency. A fire. A fever. A flood.

He jumps up, shedding spare clothing and quilts and finds the stub of a candle and makes his way to the door only to find a man standing there. Long and thin, dressed all in fine white clothes, ghostly in the flickering light. Flowing black hair and striking golden eyes. He’s the most beautiful thing Wei Ying has ever seen. More beautiful than the marsh at sunrise, more beautiful than the great river of the stars, more beautiful than cranes in flight.

If we go with the process of making a magic baby,wouldn't it theoretically be possible for mc to be able to sense their baby's location at all times if mc's magic is running through the baby's blood?

It doesn't really work like that. There's only a link that lets the monarch feel weakly some emotions of their child until they're around one or two, when they are most vulnerable

i mean, that seems like something a mad monarch would do to make sure the other parent doesn't randomly decide they want to be in the baby's life or something

Actually, there are laws for that! When a magical pregnancy takes place, the donor has absolutely no right over the baby if the monarch doesn't want it. The process of choosing the donor is important for this reason too.

Actually, I think for a monarch who is not romancing the ROs the easiest way would be to choose a consort (Naja if nothing else) as one since they are already tied together
