Watched the first episode of tmm and... Hmm
First of all I think I prefer the old soundtrack it's not bad but the old one just felt more fun to me
It's only the first episode so I'll withhold most judgement but I will say I hope they flesh out Ichigo's personality a little more and than just "I want a boyfriend" bc that's... Literally all she talked about the entire episode. Like I remember the og she had a more personal reaction to her transformation along with worrying about how Masaya would feel but now so far it's allll about him
They made Masaya more interesting already so props there lol
Like godd I'm pretty sure the og first ep had them going on a date already and Ichigo liked him BECAUSE of his interest in animals and the environment (along with other things) and now she's only just learning that after immediately having a crush on him from watching him for 10 seconds. She's only caring now bc HE does. I like the scene where she's realizes she doesn't know what she wants to do when she's older I hope she gains a bit of self discovery but if it revolves around Masaya then MAN
ALSO they skipped the whole sequence of her developing Catgirl symptoms before her transformation whyyy it was funny
Minto being the ringleader is REALLY interesting. She was always my fave so I'm not gonna complain there lol
Ryou needs to stop touching Ichigo lmaooo
For the love of God I like Quiche but if he's full on Pepe le Pew again and the fandom treats it like it's romantic I'm gonna go insane
Overall there's things I like and dislike so far  I'm sooo glad they didn't cgi the transformation sequence like sailor moon lol
Oh also the new designs are fantastic I love them all

Ten Years
Today is the 10th anniversary of the series premiere of Alex Hirsch’s Gravity Falls on the Disney Channel.
Gravity Falls was a harbinger; it was Disney shaking itself out of its post-Kim Possible doldrums and staking out a bold vision of creator-driven all-ages animated TV series. Legend of Korra was airing at the same time over on Nickelodeon (yeah, Korra is also ten years old; it premiered a couple months prior) but Disney, Cartoon Network, and Nickelodeon had all seriously ebbed back from their mid-aughts creative peaks and were sort of coasting on cheap, lousy, live-action programming, or shows that could be charming and were huge moneymakers, but made NO demands of their audience, such as Teen Titans Go! It’s not that they had nothing going on (Phineas and Ferb was airing) but it was slim pickings.
Gravity Falls would change that. In two seasons over four years it established itself as a critical, cultural, and financial sensation. Disney would follow this up with the flawed-but-still great Star vs. the Forces of Evil, the thoroughly entertaining Wander Over Yonder, the complete tour-de-force of Amphibia, and the tragically cut-short The Owl House.
All of those shows with the possible exception of Wander Over Yonder are loosely serialized creator-helmed YA shows that are invested and dripping with passion and relevance.
Gravity Falls is simultaneously a cryptid-of-the-week show about a zany sideshow attraction AND a show about the uplifting nature of even a flawed family.
Star vs. the Forces of Evil begins as a show about a magical princess from another dimension going to high school and getting into fights with the head cheerleader; it ends with an all-out civil war between people seeking to abolish a corrupt authoritarian order and fascist racists who object to all the race-mixing going on these days. A major plot point is that there’s a grand conspiracy to overthrow and erase from history an entire branch of the ruling family because the Queen boned someone from the wrong race and had a halfie kid, and the powers that be can’t have that.
Wander Over Yonder brought the same joy and whimsy we got from the Powerpuff Girls or Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends to a sci-fit setting straight out of Duck Dodgers in the 24th and a Half Century, brought to life by Jack McBrayers superb voice acting.
Amphibia and the Owl House are isekais (the anime term for “trapped in another word” series) that take what has become the most played-out genre in Japan and rebuilds it with all the strengths, all the verve, of western animators who grew up looking at the tropes and decided “I can marry this to an American sensibility and then do it better. Both shows utterly thrive on building a huge cast of interlinked characters and exploring the interiority of their lives en route to some pretty massive cosmic shit.
These are not shows you plop kids in front of to get them out of the way; these are the very definition of shows you watch and enjoy as a family. And they all had that “created by” note in their opening credits; Alex Hirsch, Daron Nefcy, Craig McCracken, Matt Braly, and Dana Terrace. One could argue that this era of shows is directly or indirectly responsible for spurring Netflix’ own forays into this kind of animation; Voltron: Legendary Defender and She-Ra and the Princesses of Power are cut from the same cloth.
This era may, sadly, be coming to an end. The Owl House is being cut down in its prime because Disney is pivoting away from serialized content of this nature; they want more “fun, bite-sized school hijinks” and less “adorable lesbians fight the evil empire.“ They don’t want a show people get into shipping wars on twitter over; they want Baymax.
This past decade and these shows will create and inspire a whole new generation of animators. Just as the people making these shows all came up under late-90s, early-aughts classic anime and cartoon series (Teen Titans, Reboot, Gargoyles, Revolutionary Girl Utena, Kim Possible, that sort of thing) the work they’ve done will launch into the future the great animated series of the 2030s. Somewhere an twelve-year-old boy is watching The Owl House; in 2035 he will be given a contract for his own show by a producer who in 2012 was a ten-year-old girl watching Gravity Falls.
So happy anniversary, Gravity Falls. You’ve made a lot of folks very happy.

Reading the W.I.T.C.H. reboot, rewrite time!
Overall… there were some interesting things here and there but… no, it’s not good. The pacing is too fast and it looks like a whole arc compressed into 100 pages. These are the changes I’d make:
-Keep all the original designs but add some new details (for the parents, mostly).
-Cornelia is the one that tutors Will.
-I liked it more when each one had a different passion.
-Taranee is like a nerd. We need more nerdy girls. And she retains her personality.
-Maybe she’s just moved too and Corny shows the high school to both of them.
-Elyon dreams about her mother and, one day at the library, meets Cedric.
-He says she’s from the Metamoor and her mother is waiting for her. He gives her something, maybe a magic crystal, so she can see through the Veil.
-Elyon wants to tell Cornelia about it, but Corny is busy tutoring Will and Taranee. They agree to meet after school.
-Kandrakar is looking for the new guardians and the Oracle thinks Will is worthy.
-Cornelia’s sister can stay. She’s the reason she tries too hard to be perfect in everything. But, also, she hates being compared to her.
-Irma can still hate the water and Hay Lin can be working to gain money to… guess what? Her grandmother is living with them. She just wants to go to China to meet her distant relatives and get to learn more about her culture.
-Will hears Matt playing the guitar while she’s cleaning her new bedroom and that’s how they meet.
-Cornelia stays more time with Will and Taranee because the Knickerbocher tells her to not leave them alone. Irma and Hay Lin go to school to help with the school fair or something and see them. Cornelia introduces them and goes to talk to Elyon.
-Elyon tells Cornelia about what she has discovered and Cornelia doesn’t believe it. Elyon says she’s leaving soon.
-Will feels a headache when she sees Elyon. It’s like she has a bad aura or so.
-The five girls connect immediately and make plans to go to the school thing together.
-Instead of finding the floating things, Will just enters Kandrakar as she goes home. The Oracle explains everything to her and gives her the Heart. Will has a crisis because she doesn’t think she’s good enough. The Oracle says she’ll have to give the others their powers.
-Will tries to meet them and explain what happened. The girls think they’re crazy. However, Hay Lin, who thinks there’s something out there, asks her to continue. Cornelia then blurts out about what Elyon told her.
-They receive their powers but they’d have to unlock them.
-Elyon and Cedric are trying to open a portal. The magical energy disrupts the whole city. The WITCH find out how to use their powers by helping with the situation. They can’t transform yet.
-They reunite again to talk about Elyon. Cornelia wants to help her. Will tries to ask the Oracle, who tells her they have to protect a lot of worlds now, and Elyon going back to the Metamoor would be a good thing.
-They find Elyon and Cedric and let them know they’re going to help. Cedric says not only they have to open the portal, but when the Veil is broken, lots of creatures from different worlds can come into theirs, so they have to be ready.
-They use their new-discovered powers to open a portal. Immediately, a lot of monsters appear. Cedric transforms and tells Elyon all the people from the Metamoor can change. Will feels the Heart bursting with energy.
-The girls transform and fight the creatures.
-Elyon says goodbye to them but they’re the Guardians now, they’ll see each other soon. The Oracle appears and thanks them.
-The girls feel a little better about their lives now that they have powers. But a new threat approaches…

Jumping off the tags of the post I just reblogged, here is my vision for a Merlin reboot (I know it's not gonna happen but shhh a girl can dream)
Merlin has to be played by Joe Locke, obviously. He's got the cheekbones, the ears, the sassy twink aura, it's him or nothing.
I'm envisioning a tone similar to Doctor Who. I want the silly monster-of-the-week, bordering on camp, fantasy shenanigans that we know and love. But intercut with good character development that fans can go feral for.
Lean in to Merlin and Morgana as narrative foils, with Merlin being corrupted by his love for Arthur and Morgana being corrupted by her resentment for her family.
If it's going to be a tragedy, make it intentionally a tragedy. I want it to be unclear who we're supposed to be rooting for.
Give me a magic allegory that doesn't explicitly condone the oppressors. Make it a cautionary tale of Merlin becoming disillusioned with a system that promised him acceptance through conformity. (Although a happy ending would be nice too).
obviously, Merlin and Arthur should end up together, but make it real slow burn. And give Arthur consistent character development so that he actually accepts and values Merlin.
I want Morgana and Gwen to date at the start and then have a messy breakup that spurns her villain arc. Gimme goth Morgana in full jealous ex-gf mode.
Gwen should actually cheat on Arthur with Lancelot. Don't be afraid to give Gwen and Lancelot character flaws. She can feel alienated from high society and neglected by Arthur. Lance can have a self righteous streak and believe that he deserves Gwen more than Arthur does. And he does, let them be happy together.
I generally hate dark gritty reboots that feed off of nostalgia, but I genuinely think that the premise and themes of Merlin have the potential to be explored in a really interesting and fresh way (à la the Shadow and Bone tv adaptation, rather than Riverdale or some shit)

Kessy's Recommendations
A little while ago a friend who's into Little Witch Academia asked for recommendations and I immediately suggested Magic User's Club. It's one of my go to's and a great show, but it's pretty obscure these days. That got me to thinking about all the other great OVA's I've seen that everyone's forgotten. So here's a selection of my favorites from the golden age of OVA's (1980's -2000's). If you're looking for a thread that connects these, my personal tastes run to character driven stories. I've tried to emphasize titles that are easy to access, mostly ones that are free on Youtube.
Tumblr media
Assemble Insert: 1989, 2 eps.
comedy, superhero, idol, mad scientist, police
The city is being overrun by a mad scientist and his mecha equipped gang, so what's the overworked underpaid police force to do? Obviously, hold a competition for the next big idol! Err, I mean superhero to save the city. Wait, is there a difference? Maron really wants to know, since she's the (un?)fortunate winner of the competition.
Tumblr media
All Purpose Cultural Catgirl Nuku Nuku (Bannou Bunka Neko-Musume): 1992, 6 eps.
comedy, catgirl (sort of), android, superpower, evil corporation
Ryuunosuke just wanted a pet, so when the minions of his overbearing mother accidentally kill the stray kitten he'd picked up his father does the only sensible thing: transplant the cat's brain into the experimental android body he's got in the back seat of the car. Ryuunosuke's new "big sister" is cheerful, energetic, able to bend steel beams with her bare hands, and overly fond of fish and sunbeams.
Nuku Nuku got a TV reboot and a second unrelated OVA called Nuku Nuku Dash, but the original OVA is definitely the best version.
Tumblr media
Dragon Half: 1993, 2 eps.
comedy, fantasy world, WTF am I watching?, dragon girl
Mink is the child of a dragon mother and a human father. (Don't think about it too much.) Her father was formerly the champion of the evil king, who still bears a grudge. So there are evil minions, a guy named Dick Saucer who can't decide if he's a singer or a swordsman, a princess who's half slime, the finger water squirter of DOOM, and Beethoven! Don't wait for it to make sense, just enjoy the ride.
Tumblr media
Plastic Little: 1994, 1 ep.
action, scifi, space opera, fanservice, yuri subtext
Tita and her galant crew make a living in the pet shop trade, capturing exotic animals in their planet's ocean of clouds for export. One day Tita runs into a beautiful young woman being pursued by a group of uniformed goons. Impulsively deciding to help the stranger, Tita and her crew are drawn into a military conspiracy to wreak havoc on the colony. Naturally, there's a caped villain, high speed chases, battleships, and ridiculously unsafe walkways over a vast chasm.
Tumblr media
Elf Princess Rane (Yousei Hime Ren): 1995, 2 eps.
comedy, WTF am I watching?, magic, yuri subtext, idiot protagonist
Well, there is a plot to this one, but describing it would take too long, make no sense, and miss the point. Rane is a frenetically paced, gag after gag wild romp into hilarity and the absurd. There are fairies from another dimension who only speak an unintelligible language, a scheming corporation, a large group of identical sisters, and a protagonist so obsessed with treasure hunting he sees it everywhere to the point of being oblivious to what's in front of his nose.
Tumblr media
Magic User's Club (Mahoutsukai Tai!): 1996, 6 eps.
comedy, romance, school life, alien invaders, magic, unrequited love, yaoi
The Earth has been invaded by aliens! However, the aliens are content to sit in their giant spaceship while observing humanity with robotic probes. So when Sawanoguchi Sae joins her school's club of neophyte magic users and the club president declares that they're going to defeat the aliens with magic, she's nothing but enthusiastic. And a massive klutz. What hope do they have considering that the rest of the club consists of Sae's best friend who only joined for Sae's sake, a vice president whose main interest is his crush on the president, and a freshman who frequently skips club activities to go on dates?
There is also a very good 13 episode TV series which is a direct continuation of the OVA featuring the same cast and hijinks but with a change in tone, not the least because the aliens are gone.
Tumblr media
Birdy the Mighty (Tetsuwan Birdy): 1996, 4 eps.
action, school life, undercover aliens, conspiracy, gender bender, body sharing
Tsutomu is your average school kid out for a stroll one evening when he runs into a man running for his life from… something. The man turns out to be an alien in disguise and the something, well let's just say it radically changes Tsutomu's life as he's drawn into a conspiracy involving interplanetary criminals. A Federation Officer named Birdy Cephon shows up, but due to reasons he winds up having to share his body with her.
The series got a TV reboot called Birdy the Mighty: Decode. In my opinion, the original OVA is better.
Tumblr media
R.O.D: Read or Die: 2001, 3 eps.
action, superpowers, secret agent, yuri subtext
Yomiko Readman is your average substitute teacher… Okay, no she isn't. She's absolutely obsessed with reading: her home is filled with stacks of books. She also has the ability to manipulate paper in any way she wishes, turning ordinary stationary into shields, weapons, giant flying paper airplanes, and so on. And she has a side job as a secret agent. So when a group of superpowered villains threatens the world, agent "The Paper" swings into action. Immediately after one of the bad guys steals her book!
ROD also has a TV series that has the same setting but completely new characters and plotline. The connections to the original OVA only gradually become apparent.
Tumblr media
Murder Princess: 2007, 6 eps.
action, fantasy world, action girl, body swap, yuri subtext, lost technology
Alita and Faris are from such different backgrounds that you'd never expect them to meet. Alita is the princess of the kingdom of Forland and has lived a sheltered life in the capital. Faris is from a tragic background and survives on her wits and her skill with a sword as a bounty hunter. However, one night there is a palace coup and Alita is forced to flee for her life into the dark and dangerous Ellend forest, where Faris is hunting monsters for the price on their heads. The two literally run into each other and straight off a cliff. During the fall, the shared near death experience causes them to switch bodies. They're forced to reluctantly team up to defeat the coup and uncover the forces behind it.
Tumblr media
Electromagnetic Girlfriend (Denpa-teki na Kanojo): 2009, 2 eps.
drama, mystery, romance
(Note: "Denpa" literally means "electromagnetic wave," but is colloquially used to mean "crazy" in much the same sense as "tin foil hat.")
Juuzawa Juu is a high school delinquent. One day a girl he's never met comes up to him and declares that he is a reincarnated king and she is his servant and knight. Despite Juu's best efforts to get rid of her, she continually follows him around. As if this wasn't enough, there's a serial killer stalking the town, and Juu suddenly finds himself caught up in the case when he's the one to find the body of the latest victim: one of his own classmates.

Animes That Fans Are Still Waiting To See Sequels For
With the recent premiere of the second season of Clone High through HBO’s Max streaming service and Netflix’s second season of the reboot of Bastard!; long suffering fans are finally getting more of the animated shows that they have spent over ten years waiting for. Hopefully streaming services will continue to listen to the people and start doing more reboots and sequels to what fans want to see. Here’s a list of seven other anime shows that anime fans are still waiting to see:
Tumblr media
School Rumble
School Rumble is the anime adaptation of the Slice of Life, Romantic-Comedy manga of the same name by Jin Kobayashi. This over 20 episode animated series follows the ditzy but lovable, Tenma Tsukamoto, and the former delinquent who loves her, Kenji Harima. This show was brilliantly written with amazing comedic moments surrounding the typical misunderstandings and awkward moments among teenagers, along with personal revelations. School Rumble was definitely a show that would delight many within the Shoujo or Shonen fan-base, however the ending of the series seemed unfinished and left much to be desired.
Tumblr media
Ouran Host Club
Take Hana Kimi and mash it together with Boys Over Flowers, and you get Ouran Host Club. Based off of the 2002-2010 manga by Bisco Hatori, the genderbending reverse harem anime continues to have a dedicated fan base still aching for more episodes. This anime follows the gender non-conforming Haruhi Fujioka who attends a prestigious private school on scholarship, and is forced to pay back a debt working as a host club member. Despite being a comedy this show has compelling character arcs and emotional moments, with positive LGBT+ representation. Since the anime concluded before the manga’s completion there’s definitely still plenty of story to tell and this show could easily follow in the footsteps of FullMetal Alchemist: Brotherhood or Hellsing Ultimate.
Tumblr media
Kamisama Kiss
Having an original air date of 2012 this anime is based off the 25 volume long manga series by Julietta Suzuki of the same name. This show followed the recently homeless Tomoe who becomes a minor deity and gets a handsome yet short tempered fox yokai for a servant. This show had a nice concept with many lovable characters in the Supernatural genre with Romantic-Comedic elements to the story. Despite having two seasons, the story’s ending didn’t feel complete and hopefully one day fans can get more.
Tumblr media
Utena: Revolutionary Girl
For so many people this 1997 anime was an introduction to the world of anime and manga and is highly regarded for its art style, and LGBT+ and Feminist themes. The anime is based off of the manga written by Chiho Saito of the Magical Girl, Action, and Fantasy genres. This story follows Utena Tenjou, a new girl at school who becomes involved in a secret European-style duel competition for “The Rose Bride.” The bride in question is a quiet and mysterious girl named Anthy Himemiya who is often treated more as a prop and less as a person. Utena fights frequently to defend Anthy yet is sadly betrayed by someone she considered a good friend. The anime ends with Anthy going out to search for Utena but we never know what happens after the fact. Even the anime film adaptation ends with no clear resolution so a reboot or a sequel series to settle people’s questions would be a great form of closure to the old fans while catching the interest of the new ones.
Tumblr media
Mermaid Forest
After the success of Inuyasha, Ranma ½, and Urusei Yatsura, Rumiko Takahashi has no shortage of fans who would check out anything with her name attached. Back in the early 2000s there was an anime adaptation of her 1994 manga of the same name. In this anime the show’s two leads, Yuta and Mana, have been given immortality after consuming mermaid flesh which arguably the better of the two possible side effects. For the better part of the series the anime follows these two around during their travels until they run into another, much older immortal, who has developed an amoral personality. Towards the end we never know the fate of the older immortal nor discover if there is any possibility to reverse the side effects of the mermaid flesh. The anime just sorta of ends, so a sequel or reboot would be greatly appreciated.
Tumblr media
Nightwalker: The Midnighter Detective
Anime fans who also enjoyed the Buffyverse spin-off Angel could easily adore the original 13 episode show. This late 90s horror-mystery anime follows the bishonen male lead, Shido Tatsuhiko, who fights to protect those from the harm or influence of terrible using vampiric abilities. One of the key figures to his past is the vampire Lord Cain who has semi-obsession with Shido and refuses to accept that he is no longer the killer he used to be and tries to get Shido to come back to him. The last episode ends with Shido experiencing the trauma of having to put down his teenage secretary, Riho Yamazaki, and being kissed by Cain who declares his love for Shido once more before fading away into darkness. This ending would’ve been fantastic as a season one finale but as a show one there just feels like so much that could be told.
Tumblr media
Descendants of Darkness
Based on the still on-going manga Yami no Matsuei, or Descendants of Darkness, this 2000 anime adaption is an excellent blend of mystery, dark fantasy, and supernatural with an extra helping of yaoi. The show’s lead is Asato Tsuzuki, a human turned shinigami who solves cases for the Spirit World alongside the recently murdered turned shinigami Hisoka Kurosaki. This anime did a marvelous job at keeping viewers guessing with different mysteries and entertained with action sequences. The artwork is magnificent as well. At the end of the show Hisoka pulls Asato out of a deep depression and they fight off the show’s overarching villain before concluding. However, since the manga has yet to officially end there’s still room to continue the story and there are many who would be eager to watch.

Fairy prince
Characters: Sky x male reader, Brandon x male reader, Riven x male reader
Universe: Winx Club/Winx Saga
Warnings: None
Authors note: Okay that's a strange one. It is a hybrid of the old Winx Club animated Series and the horrible reboot from Netflix. It is in a sense more on the Winx Club side of things but has also parts of its reboot in it. So yeah, hope you guys like it.
When your parents told you that now was the time that you had to leave amid the war you were fighting against a neighboring world, to say you were furious, would be an understatement.
Even though you did not want to leave, you couldn’t go against your parent's word. So a couple of days later, you found yourself at the entrance of the Alfea school for fairies. The mostly pink building made you almost vomit on sight. But being near other people like you would be a nice change. You have four younger brothers, but none of them are like you.
And then came the moment in which you entered the place. Only fairies could at the start enter the campus and everyone looked at you astonished, as you followed a group of girls onto it.
Minding your own business, not even realizing that dozens of pairs of eyes stared you down. Hanging on your phone texting with Vika, your brother that was closest in age to you.
Where finally someone tapped on your shoulder. Turning around, a faint smile crept on your face, as you saw an older woman with white hair in front of you.
„Young man, you must be mistaken, this is Alfea the school for fairies,“ she began to talk. As you wanted to interrupt her, she started anew. „The school for specialists is a couple of kilometers west from here, you can’t miss the red fountain!“ Her voice was happy to help you.
Dumbfounded you just stood there. In your family was it normal for boys to be fairies and not the girls. For generations, at least one of your kin visited Alfea, yes it is a long time overdue, cause of your father's generation having not a single one, but before him, were seventeen, alone from your family alone.
„Excuse me? I think I’m at the right place,“ you only told her determinedly.
She was taken aback, especially at your slightly sour tone. Without giving her more of your attention, you went back to your phone. Telling your brother everything that had happened.
You did not notice, that the woman had left or that everyone gathered at a place, in front of a little stage. Only after the woman you had just a confrontation with, lets out beautiful magic, do you look up again. Not being able to hear her, you walked closer.
It was only welcoming, but again you got the feeling of belonging deep inside of you. Eyes glistening in excitement. You even hold your hand to one of the magical butterflies she just let appear, out. A lot of them landed on you, tickling your soft skin. Never in your life, have you ever seen something so beautiful?
Only the color of blood corpses piling up, as art and the screams of dying or hurt people, as music. But this, this was entirely different, warmth began to fill you up.
At least until you felt something strange hovering over you, just as you wanted to look, you fell to the floor. Not knowing what was happening, you tried to stand up, by putting your hands on the floor. But were unable to move them even a little bit. As your eyes wandered down you saw a kind of rope, binding you together.
Angry you tried to free yourself, but it also seemed to block your magic. Fear flowed through your veins, which only got worse, as you saw that nobody was going to help you.
„Miss Faragonda, we were sent to get this one out of here, to get him to the right place as you wish.“ Immediately your eyes went to the older lady, that had spoken to you before. She smiled at you sweetly, but the only thing you could feel was a betrayal. Not only from your own kind but also from a woman, your grandfather most likely held in high regard.
„You can’t do this, I’m a fairy too!“, you screamed out, which let everyone look at you in disgust. That you really tried that to get into an all-girls school.
Before you could make more problems, a blond guy took your upper body, while a brown-haired guy, took the other side and carried you away. All the while you spewed insults, and threats, and all in all being aggressive.
With the hovercraft back in their own school, you got carried to the headmaster, where he wanted to explain why you thought, being obviously a specialist to go to Alfea to learn about the craft. At this point, you did not answer anything. Which got you in a confinement cell. To let cool you off.
But your anger just grew in there. To get betrayed was one thing, but from people who should understand and be with you? Your own magical kind? The only ones even in the slightest should be able to feel the pain of responsibility you had on your shoulders?
For an entire week were you in there, often both headmasters you had seen came to you, to speak, but you hadn’t any of it. Three times a day, the brown-haired guy that had brought you there, feed you. Because of the rope that still bound you together, you couldn’t eat yourself.
After this week a very known face to you finally got you out of this cell. He almost broke as he saw you. Caged into a cell, instead of being together with your kind, just as he was when he was younger.
He destroyed the rope and got you to follow him. His steps were slow and the walking stick wouldn’t do it for much longer. Still, he walked up all the flight of stairs. He was determined for something.
As you got into the headmaster's room, in which you were the first day. „Saladin!“, your grandfather called through the room. As the other old man looked up from his desk, he was shocked to see you and your grandfather. But before he could say anything, your own clam grandfather shot an explosion at him.
The room was destroyed but no one was harmed. Still, Saladin was obviously confused. „What are you doing here Teritel?“
„What I’m doing here? My second oldest grandson brought to my attention, that my oldest was not answering him anymore. So I came to this place to find him, only to hear from Fraragonda, that my precious boy is in here! Caged into a cell!“, the last part he screamed in absolute anger.
Even the headmaster gulped hard at seeing your grandfather this angry. „Because he is obviously a specialist and not a fairy.“ Saladin tried to argue softly. But then your grandfather showed him his own wings.
„I have expected more from your guys. You knew that my family brings out male fairies instead of females! And still, you caught him like a criminal, and humiliated him in front of hundreds of others! This will have consequences, Saladin! As the still reigning king of Ulnika, I will bring this up in the next „Kings and Queens“ meeting. Maybe we need new schools for the next generations!“
Just then your grandfather wanted you to go with him. Telling the other older man, which seemed to have been once a friend of your grandfathers, to stop you two.
„No we can train him here, maybe even with fairy guidance!“, he tried to get to a compromise.
„You want my grandson? My heir, to half a half excuse of a fairy education? One that he as the protector of an entire world, has a right to? He already is experienced enough to get all of your boys on the floor with a sword, so what could he learn more from you, than from a school full of fairies?“
The man seemed to be at a loss for words. Which your grandfather took as your leaving sign. But this time it was you to stop him. „Maybe I should try it. But only, if we start the school year with a training camp with both fairies and specialists, where both get trained together for a while.“
Your grandfather at first reluctant, understood with a couple of moments looking into your eyes. S slightly evil grin appeared on his wrinkled face, „That is a fantastic idea. Deep in the woods, is an old wizard school. It still gets cared for.“
Saladin at the end of his wisdom said `yes´ to it, He didn’t even have much of a choice left, but still. At least he wouldn’t be on your grandfather's bad side anymore.
And as your grandfather had told already, you could bring all of them down. And you looked forward to doing it. Especially with the blond and brown-haired guys. But also the one with purple hair tips. The one that had thrown the rope to contain you.
A wide, satisfied smirk already was on your face, not being able to wait for the day of your revenge.

Oh, hi, hello, lemme just:

*This is not a rp tumblr. Zoey is an internet persona **While I'll tag the TCC for the sake of information to be reached as well as for those who have certain tags blacklisted (I myself live near where a prolific school sh//ting happened) but I do not participate in the TCC on here. ***I don't like that true crime exists, even if I do find it interesting. ****As stated above, I do this for information purposes. I merely find it interesting and there is a lot of misinformation about the tragedy. While Dylan does fall under that category of someone I would have been friends with or had a crush on in high school, I find fangirling over him and Eric, and anyone else who have committed atrocities like theirs, disturbing and insulting. But that's just my onion. It has layers.

I have been on a little binge on Powerpuff Girls Z (Remember that One Japanese Adaptation of the PPG where the Girls now go to High School, not even Sisters, and were just ordinary girls with Magical Girl Power? Or am I truly one of those kinds of people who have seen that?).
Anyways, because I've been a little nostalgia watch on some Good Old Classic CN Childhood, I wanted to try on watching the Anime version of the PPG and so far, I actually like the Anime more than the Original (even though I still love the Original series no matter what). I dunno why, maybe it's because that Obscurity and Anime are always running down through my blood? IDK but chances are that the First Foreign Reboot is a lot better than that sh*t 2016 reboot with some Creepy-Ass writer for a Self-Insert.
Because in the Anime version that the Girls are no longer sisters and actually have families of their own (with their Creator now having his own Family with a Single Son and Wife but still acts like a Father Figure to the Female Trio), I was most likely bumped that we never got to see who the Parents of Bubbles (or at least, "Miyako" as she was actually called in the Anime of the Japanese Dub) are since it was confirmed that she does live with her own Grandmother where's Blossom (Momoko) and Buttercup (Kaoru) live with their own Parents and Siblings. Miyako (I'm just gonna randomly call the PPG's Anime Counterparts by their own Actual Names, deal with it) is an Actual Single Child with No Parents and this leads Me into wonder what the Parents of the Single Daughter might've looked like.
So yeah, because we never got to see an Interpretation of Miyako's own parents (most likely based on an Idea where each of the Powerpuff Girls weren't even Sisters and had their own Family Trees, so to speak), I've wanted to try to do a little personal fanon interpretation of how I think what Miyako's parents might've looked like in the PPGZ Universe. My Headcanon names for Miyako's Parents are "Hanami" (Meaning "Flower") and "Mizuwokakeru" (Meaning "Water") or just "Mizu" for short, because since "Miyako" is actually a Japanese name meaning "Beauty", I'd figure why not just pick Random Japanese Names for Miyako's own parents that have meanings similar to their Daughter's name (because in the PPGZ universe, it was actually set in Japan much like how PPG was set in America).
I imagine that Hanami (the Mother) would be a Fashion Designer just like how her Daughter wanted to be and even the Father (Mizu) as a Former Sailor who retired from Sailing but is still attached to Nature's Sea Life.
BTW, Not really a fandom-joining mood btw, this is just for random fanart of random HCs or ideas that I don't think big much on.
Powerpuff Girls Z (c) Cartoon Network Japan and Toei Animation Hanami and Mizuwokakeru "Mizu" Gōtokuji (My Personal HC Designs for Miyako/Bubbles Z's Parents) (c) Me

Animation Night 162: Nimona
I'm back~
Hey everyone. Last week Animation Night had its second week off in just over three years. A shameful lapse; the perpetrators have been... dealt with, and you can trust it won't happen again.
So tonight! I figured we'd watch Nimona, since it just came out and all. This is actually sorta related to Annecy ('Annecy related stuff' will be a theme for a good few weeks), insofar as it premiered there. But I didn't see that premiere, so instead I gotta talk about some other stuff...
Tumblr media
(please forgive the big ugly stickers, this is the only high-res version of the cover I could find)
So. We're in the era where the people who were big in webcomics back in the 2010s are now making animated films. A few months ago we talked Lackadaisy; now it's Nimona's turn.
If you're old by Tumblr standards, you might well remember that time ten years ago when Nate Stevenson was one of us poor sods drawing pictures on Tumblr as gingerhaze (he just came back in fact!), and Nimona was a popular webcomic. But not one you can find online anymore; Nimona came out on paper, and this in turn launched Stevenson's gradual rise through comics and into animation. Perhaps you are more likely to know of his work from She-Ra and the Princesses of Power. More on that shortly...
Nimona follows a shapeshifting girl in a fantasy world and her friendship with one Ballister Blackheart, a 'villain' in the roles of this setting but very much one with a heart of gold, at odds with the 'Institute' and his counterpart/rival/secret boyfriend Ambrosious Goldenloin. In contrast with the uptight Blackheart, Nimona is a kind of prickly traumagirl chaos agent, an archetype that we would meet again in She-Ra's Catra; the story involves many sciencefictional turns but her tumultous relationship with Blackheart is at its heart - along with the question of what sort of person Nimona is when you get down to it, which even she struggles to decide...
It's tricky to know how to characterise Nimona, 10 years on. At the time I was certainly into it; looking back I feel like it's definitely a first longform work sort of thing, where sometimes the plotting feels a bit haphazard - but regardless, it's absolutely a solid read. And for a Tumblr craving that #representation it was exactly what the doctor ordered. The great success of this comic led to more comics, primarily the Lumberjanes series about a group of girl scouts having various wacky supernatural escapades; all this comic work in turn got Stevenson an in at Disney, working on Craig McCracken's series Wander over Yonder as a writer, before finally getting a chance to run his own show...
Tumblr media
That show was the 2018 Netflix reboot of the 80s cartoon She-Ra: Princess of Power, animated at Dreamworks. (At about the same time, Stevenson married Molly Ostertag, author of Strong Female Protagonist and writer for The Owl House). This one was very popular with the lesbians on here, odds are pretty good that you've seen it, I actually ended up watching it as it came out with housemates... but let's talk a little about it, why not.
So. Princesses is the original She-Ra by way of Avatar: The Last Airbender, taking a lot of AtlA's general approach to pacing, humour and drama alike - the first season finds it hard to step out of Avatar's shadow, but gradually it figured out a bit more of its own identity.
She-Ra is ostensibly the story of Adora, who has defected from the evil empire and gained the power to transform into magical girl supersoldier 'She-Ra', along with her two friends Glimmer and Bo from the good two shoes kingdom. These protagonists have their conflicts - Adora trying to fill the big shoes of She-Ra, Glimmer's tense relationship with her royal mother - but it is absolutely far more interested in antagonist Catra, who is the Nimona/Zuko figure of this story, as well as Adora's long-term will they or won't they love interest. Catra consistently steals the show, and most of its big drama comes from the question of whether Catra will follow Adora in defecting from the 'Horde' - or rather, why she does not, and continues to make all the worst choices possible. The intermediate season finales with their time travel and fantasy worlds are honestly pretty solid sci-fi melodrama - the final season, which really rushes to tie everything up neatly, sadly drops that ball.
Besides AtlA, it's a show that will wear its anime influences on its sleeve (with some really overt Utena nods). The animation is in an odd place where it is clearly leaning on anime drawing styles but with an American Toonboom-era inflection, where everything is pushed into simple shapes just a little too much; it has its moments (the 'Fright Zone' backgrounds are rather good, and there are some charming moments of character interaction) but struggles with space and perspective in a way that's not great for an action-driven show.
But whatever I might have to say about its flaws, She-Ra was a hit, successful enough for Netflix to fund it for four seasons - making a much larger splash than Powerhouse's concurrent He-Man series which took a much more traditional approach. And I suppose that led them to look at what other ND Stevenson related properties they might be able to sell...
Tumblr media
As all this was happening, the Nimona film was brewing. It had a rather troubled production; in 2015 Fox bought the rights, planning to make it at Blue Sky (best known for Ice Age). The project got cancelled when Disney digested Fox, with Disney feeling a little nervy about all the gay/trans shit in this movie. (Not that that stopped them having a float at London Pride yesterday lmao. Cunts.)
But that wasn't the end of the story, and Netflix and Annapurna swooped in, pulling in directors Nick Bruno and Troy Quane who had been at Blue Sky before its demise and worked on the previous version of the film. The animation ended up being finished at the visual effects company DNEG and premiered at Annecy a couple of weeks ago - I could have met Stevenson and got a signed copy of the comic lol. Now at last it's here for streaming.
So after that messy story what sort of film is it? The story takes a similar premise to the comic, and keeps the core character relationships pretty much as they were: Blackheart is a good man unjustly framed as a villain, Nimona is a shapeshifter who pushes him to escalate, Goldenloin as the official pursuing Blackheart, and his boyfriend before the shit went down. But the plot looks like it will end up diverging quite a bit. Visually, it's CG with a 2D celshading inflection - most likely unrelated to Spiderverse given the timeline, but it's definitely belonging within that new flavour of CG film. It's a style that really pushes and exaggerates the expressions, and I can't really say how well it will work - but let's find out! The critics seem pretty excited.
I think I said that Animation Night would start at a reasonable time today. Well, my best laid plans ganged aglee, but there is time I think to check out Nimona - so if you'd like to join me, I'll be live shortly at twitch.tv/canmom and I hope to see you there ^^
