Hi! I really liked your magical realism AU! Would it be possible for you to explain it a bit more? Like- how do levels work? Does it mean that the higher the level the more powerful the element you have is? Who is the most powerful member of the grid in your AU? Also, if you had a level/ability, what would it be?
Also also, you're a really good writer, just wanted to say 💗. Thank you for exploring some heavier topics in your writing and allowing readers to be a bit more vulnerable too!
There is like... so much here honestly. World building is my absolute favorite part of writing AU's because not one is the same! Obviously there are other magical realism AU's similar but this one is mine and I spent literal days figuring this out
In all honesty - you hit my sweet spot with this question. Below is my long ass rant about this AU along with an info dump. Gonna start creating tags for it since it's picking up more traction!
So I spent more time than I want to admit playing around with certain concepts. The rating system was a big one for me because it allows for abilities to manifest in different ways.
I started out calling it a 'scary rating' because I thought it was funny and now I head cannon they use it for fun. Rating is so... boring.
The scale is a 1-10 system. ! is the least powerful where 10 is the most. the most common are 4-7 simply because of how these energies manifest themselves.
The EU's (energy users) are more or less feared. I've deemed this as part of human evolution. It's not some kind of lab experiment gone wrong, just humans adapting to things in the environment.
That being said - Energies are more or less sentient. It's something I plan to explore in later fics. This comes into play a lot in Mend Me because I wrote an entire scene of energies either meshing or not.
In that fic, the protagonist is a level 10 meaning her energy is really high. People feel it because it's strong. Lando is a three (I think) and should not be able to be in the room with her but is able to manage because their energies meld together well.
One of the big things I stumbled across while building is that kind of dynamic. I tried explaining to a few people and it wasn't making sense so I had to rework it a few times. Here is the condensed explanation:
Energies are a natural thing and the next step in human evolution
They have their own personalities and often work with their human counter part versus working for them
Because normal humans fear the unknown and crave control, they came up with the identifying bands
All EU's are required to wear one
It shows their ability category (more on that later), their rating, and acts a suppressor band
Because EU's aren't allowed to be out without them on, the normal humans never adapted to the presence of energies and can't stomach being around anything 4 or higher. 1-3 still messes with them but not as severely.
Due to energies not being allowed to interact with each other and work together as intended, other EU's have to make a point to spend time together without their suppressor bands on in order to gain that familiarity
If you take it a step further you can even use it for different relationships. Pierre and Esteban for example might not work together well because their energies simply clash.
The rating system depends on a lot of different factors really! A level 1 who manipulates water might be able to make a bubbles and that's it. Where a level 10 could make a tsunami and then go for a mile run. A level 8 might be able to make that tsunami, but doing anything after would just be painful.
Now onto the fun part: Powers! I want to note that there are the main branches of powers, the actual power type, and then the sub categories of how that power might manifest. Bare with me here as this isn't all flushed out yet!
Also for references: EU's make up a little less then half the human population. I don't have the time to calculate what it would be in terms of the entire population for these statistics so don't be upset with me please T_T
Healers make up 3% of the EU population. Know by their white arm bands w/ black stripe in the middle (or the reverse Oreo technically speaking).
Witchers (healing but same name twice was driving me insane)
Alchemists
Energy Readers
Mind make up 8% of the EU population. Know by their light blue arm bands.
Telekenetic
Mind Reader
Mind control
Precognition
Illusion
Fazing
Illusion
Psychometry
Empath
Shifters make up 12% of the EU population. They have a bronze arm band but the shifter type is outlined on it (paw print, body, shape).
Animal
Partial
Body Mod
Inanimate (this one was for giggles really)
Sound makes up 11% of the EU population. Their arm bands are gold with vertical gray stripes.
Vocal Flux
Music
Language
Mimicry
Body makes up 15% of the EU population. Known by orange arm bands.
Speed
Strength
flying
Size Alteration
Agility
Druids makes up 9% of the EU population. Known by a Green armband w/ brown stripe in the middle
Animal communication
sentient creation
Plant communication (Lorax style)
Fabricators
Sensory makes up 17% of the EU population and have purple arm bands.
Sight
Smell
Hearing
Taste
Touch
Reapers make up 3% of the EU population. Know by their black arm bands w/ a white stripe in the middle (The real Oreo cookie).
death touch
dream walking
judges
channeling
Primary Elementals make up 12% of the EU population. They have gray armbands w/ a colored strip in the middle indicating element.
Water
Earth
Fire
Air
Long ago, the four nations lived together in harmony. Then everything changed when the Fire Nation attacked
Secondary Elementals make up 10% of the EU population. Plain black arm bands because there are to many of them to pick a way to diversify!
Metal
Shadow
Weather
Electricity
Light
There's a ton of details about each of of these but that would require another post. For now, I'll finally answer the questions!
The most powerful in my own head is Carlos because I made him a shifter. A level 8 BEAR. Why? because I can. I like to experiment though so that's my own fantasy world. However, if you see a consistent stream of bear Carlos that's why.
If I personally had an ability I'd have to Say a Witcher (leave the name alone! Saying healer twice is weird to meeee!). The reason is wildly morbid...
Draw backs of being a Witcher (healer) is what I like to call a wound transfer. I - much to everyone's displeasure - have intrusive thoughts about hurting myself in incredibly morbid ways. Getting to heal one person and hurting myself in the process? Sounds like a win-win to me!

Shadows Hunger
The Return of the Shadow Dragon
Tumblr media
As the sun began to set, the shadow dragon stirred from its lair. It had been in the Shadowfell for decades, and it had grown accustomed to the bleakness of the plane. But now, it hungered for something more.
The dragon spread its wings and took to the air, seeking out a portal that would take it back to the Material Plane. It flew for hours, its dark scales blending in with the dusky sky.
Finally, the dragon spotted a portal in the deep gloom of a subterranean cavern. It swooped down, passing through the portal in a burst of shadows.
When the dragon emerged on the other side, it found itself in a lush forest. The sun was setting, casting long shadows across the ground. The dragon felt weaker in the bright light, but it knew it could still do damage if it needed to.
As the dragon roamed the forest, it spotted a group of adventurers camping for the night. They were roasting meat over a fire, and the dragon could smell the delicious scent from where it was perched in a nearby tree.
The dragon decided to make its move. It leaped from the tree, its leathery wings carrying it towards the campsite. The adventurers were caught off guard, and they scrambled to grab their weapons.
But it was too late. The dragon breathed a blast of necrotic energy, and the adventurers fell one by one. The dragon's shadow minions rose from their corpses, eager to do their master's bidding.
The dragon grinned as it feasted on the remains of its victims. It was back in the Material Plane, and it had no intention of leaving anytime soon. The power and majesty of the dragons were just too enticing to resist.

Many Russian classics delve into the profound depths of the human soul, often portraying the horrors of the Gulag. However, "The Master and Margarita" stands as a refreshing exception, undoubtedly the most uplifting among Russian classics—a blend of humor, profundity, and a must-read experience. Despite its acknowledgment as a 20th-century masterpiece and a pinnacle of magical realism, it remains surprisingly unknown to many well-read individuals.
Written in the 1930s but published in the 1960s, the novel unfolds as a surreal masterpiece. The devil, Woland, and his bizarre entourage disrupt Moscow's literary elite, initiating a series of fantastical events. The story intertwines the narratives of Berlioz's tragic fate and the experiences of Ivan Bezdomny, a poet ending up in a lunatic asylum. The Master, a writer imprisoned for his novel about Jesus Christ and Pontius Pilate, becomes pivotal in connecting the narrative threads.
As Woland orchestrates magic shows and Margarita, the Master's mistress, embraces witchcraft, the novel unfolds with delightful absurdity. The narrative navigates Good Friday, Christ's crucifixion, and Margarita's supernatural flights across Moscow and the USSR. The novel's wit, satire, and comedic elements provide a unique lens into the dark societal critique woven throughout.
Despite its complexity and quasi-religious themes, "The Master and Margarita" emanates a lightness of tone. Bulgakov's satire targets the literati, offering a humorous reckoning for those who dismissed the Master's work. The novel's optimistic core suggests that finding humor in adversity is paramount. Bulgakov, living through tumultuous times, captured the essence of a cosmic joke where life's absurdity is illuminated through laughter.
Bulgakov's life mirrored the challenges faced by his characters. Writing clandestinely during a period of political repression, he confronted constant threats, health issues, and the fear of never completing his masterpiece. "The Master and Margarita" remained unpublished during his lifetime, its significance emerging only after the oppressive Soviet regime.
The novel symbolizes dissidence, serving as a potent catalyst for liberation from the hypnotic order of Soviet life. Bulgakov's work invites contemplation on good and evil, light and darkness, urging readers to navigate moral choices amidst chaos. Ultimately, "The Master and Margarita" stands as a testament to the power of literature, providing solace, humor, and a unique perspective on the human condition. by Kaja Popko

Chapter 29, Go Below, is up!
(I am having sooooooo much fun.)
Lestrade and Mycroft stepped through the Workworks tunnel entrance. A moment later, the liquid stonework rebuilt itself as a solid wall blocking the entry to his tiny posh office. Lestrade moved to follow Adler and stumbled in the darkness.
Mycroft caught his arm, steadying him. “Adler, light, if you please. Not all company present can change their eyesight to see in the dark.”
The Shapeshifter grumbled, but the tunnel suddenly pulsed with blue light that emanated from Adler’s very skin as they strode away down the tunnel.
“How are they… glowing ?” Lestrade whispered, following at a cautious distance as if Adler’s light might be caustic.
“Bioluminescence,” Mycroft replied quietly. “They can adapt to any environmental need – extreme heat, extreme cold, breathing air or water.”
“That’s… bloody remarkable.”
“Mm, indeed. And very useful as a spy.”
Lestrade ran his fingertips along the tunnel walls as they walked. It was smooth and rounded, sloping down steadily as if it had been left behind by some enormous worm tunneling to the middle of the earth. “So what’s this clever plan, Mycroft?” He tried to keep his voice light, though he was vibrating with nerves.

The Curse of Dracula's Tomb
Tumblr media
Once upon a time, in a faraway land, there was a brave and curious adventurer named Ellowyn. She had always been intrigued by the legends of a forgotten castle where there had been no signs of life for years. Despite the rumors of danger, Ellowyn was determined to uncover the truth and find the Tome of Eldritch that was said to be hidden within its walls.
Ellowyn approached the castle with caution, her heart racing with excitement and anticipation. The castle's once grand architecture was now crumbling, with vines and weeds growing through every crevice. She cautiously made her way through the dirt corridors, stepping over broken furniture and debris. As she pushed deeper into the castle, she ignored the pleas of her intuition to leave and continued to search for the Tome.
Finally, she arrived at the main room of the castle, where she found a large stone tomb. She knew that Dracula had passed away many centuries ago, but still, she couldn't resist the urge to investigate further. As she approached the tomb, she opened the stone casket, only to be surprised by a creature rising from within. The creature wore Dracula's clothing but had a wooden face, and Ellowyn knew it could not be human.
Without hesitation, she threw a smoke grenade to the floor and disappeared from sight, hiding in the shadows as the creature emerged from the tomb. The remains of Dracula had corrupted the area where his body lay, and the creature was no longer a mere piece of wood left forgotten through Dracula's heart.
Ellowyn watched in horror as the creature's roots grew out of the tomb, rapidly covering the walls of the room. She knew she had to act fast if she wanted to escape before it was too late. She pierced the creature's eyes with her dagger and blinded it, allowing her to jump inside the casket to investigate. But to her surprise, it was empty.
Realizing time was running out, Ellowyn made a break for the door, only to find it blocked by a group of blights that had appeared from the roots growing out of the tomb. She didn't have time to think and ran towards the window, breaking the glass with her impact and falling to her death.
But fate had a different plan for Ellowyn, as she was caught by a rope that had been carefully placed before her fall. She used it to lower herself back into the castle through a window on a lower level. There, she finally found the Tome of Eldritch. It was exactly what she had been searching for.
Ellowyn escaped with barely a scratch, but from a distance, she saw the Gulthias tree take over the castle, and the curse of the blight began to corrupt the surrounding land. Nevertheless, she had achieved her goal, and she returned home with newfound knowledge and the Tome of Eldritch to prove that the legends were indeed real.
