The American Revolutionary War was not Revolutionary.
The American Revolutionary War was not Revolutionary and how the war effected the American political live until this day
The American Revolutionary Wars for American Independence was a conflict fought between the second Continental Congress/Confederate States of America or the United Confederate States of America from 1775 with the first battles at Concord and Lexington and the conflict’s conclusion in 1783. The American Revolution is remembered in popular culture, particularly in the United States, as a…

With this past Tuesday being Jay-Z's birthday (Happy Belated HOV Day to all who celebrate 💎), I figured no time is better than this week to chat about my choice to make J's Magna Carta Holy Grail album "Hidden Figures"'s running musical inspiration .
.
The idea came to me when "Holy Grail" happened to pop on while I started drafting my first blog post for the series where, in a raw emotional state - as I tried to figure out how I was going to put my views and experiences about my Seattle existence into words - my longing yet conflicted feelings were underscored by the early lyrics of the song:
"...And, baby, it's amazin' I'm in this maze with you I just can't crack your code One day, you're screamin' you love me loud The next day, you're so cold One day, you're here (Yeah), one day, you're there (Yeah) One day, you care (Yeah), you're so unfair "
.
The words seemed to sing what I felt about living as a transplant in this city where it seemed I just couldn't find my way into it; I couldn't find where I belonged. And when I felt like I may have, the feeling wouldn't seem to stick or last.
.
But as the song continued, I found myself encouraged - as I am at every listen - by Jay's second verse where, after reflecting on the things that drive him crazy about the position he's found himself in thanks to fame, he steps out of the frustration to remind himself how far he's come and who he is despite those things following him:
.
"Why you mad? Take the good with the bad Or throw the baby out with that bath water You're still alive, still that nigga Nigga, you survived, still gettin' bigger"
.
The song seemed to ride the same emotional waves I found myself on as I looked to explain how "Hidden Figures" came to be: Confusion, hurt, disappointment...but then reflection, resolve and eventually emboldened acceptance and a doubling down on who I know I am. Despite the tougher feelings I found myself working through as I sought to talk about the project and what its concept was born from, I had to remember that - even in the face of those feelings - I've learned so much about myself, my values, what genuine relationships mean to me and have accomplished many things I could be proud of in this city...
.
Originally I only planned to introduce the first figure set with "Holy Grail", but as I continued listening to the album while I typed away, I heard more and more themes that reflected the things I wanted the piece to speak to: Being a Black figure existing under the White Gaze ("Oceans", "F.U.T.W", "Somewhereinamerica"), knowing my worth ("Picasso Baby", "fuckwithmeyouknowigotit")...each figure had its own theme so it only made sense for each figure to be presented with its own theme song.
.
Along with the album speaking to similar themes to Hidden Figures, it also seemed fitting that one of my most art-for-art's-sake works would be paired with what, I think, is one of the most artistic of Jay-Z's projects at the time MCHG was released (a view not everyone shares but, you know....). As a long time fan, the musical arrangements, the deep lyrics but also the quintessential rap boast tracks, the cover artwork, even Jay-Z's performance of Picasso Baby at the Pace Gallery - the album felt art house, a capsule of Jay being seen through a curated rap lens. And in the same vein, Hidden Figures is a capsule of all the feelings I've had as a transplant in Seattle delivered through a traditional Fine Art lens: No character or story to watch unfold - just a concept and (hopefully) moving and simple yet evocative shapes in a open space with something to say - a further engaging with and appreciation for the art form.
.
Magna Carta Holy Grail spoke what I didn't have the words to say and said everything I left out of the words I did have. And I guess at the same time, in a way, my use of the album is also my own little lover letter to and celebration of one of my favorite lyricists and rappers of all time whose music has held a place of honor in my life for a long time.

Quote
There was nothing original in the way medieval scientists wrote about the size and shape of the earth and its continents: they were merely following were the Greeks had led. Originality came in the nineteenth century when historians decided than in the Middle Ages people had been 'flat-earthers', probably because they considered that the centuries between the fall of Rome and the Renaissance had been a time of barbarism, superstition and ignorance: the Dark Ages. Even today many people still believe that in the Middle Ages everyone thought the earth was flat: we live in our own age of faith, the faith that 'we' are superior, more rational than the superstitious people from the past.

London Carter ✤ Closer To Fine
London Carter had plans.  She had plans for graduating Magna Cum Laude with a double major in political science and international relations.  She had plans to work on Ellen Claremont’s reelection campaign, to help make another four years of Claremont-Holleran a reality.  She had plans for winning her senate seat, and for becoming Secretary of State.  She had plans to be Vice President in the Claremont-Diaz Carter administration of 2032-2040 alongside her best friend, FSOTUS Alex Claremont-Diaz.  Her plans did not include Alex causing an international incident with the Prince Of England.  Her plans also did not include having to use every bit of her upcoming international relations degree to clean up his mess.  And her plans definitely did not include Alex falling in love with said Prince Of England, especially in the middle of Ellen’s reelection.

Governmental Power: England vs France
Throughout my studies of the French Revolution, especially when I have been looking at the circumstances surrounding why Louis XVI called the Estates General, I have been wondering about why the French Governmental system was so different to ours, and what had led to their being so utterly different.
The main difference I can see is how centralised the government is. In France in the late 18th c, the governmental power is within the person of the king. When the French monarchy removed from Paris to the Palace of Versailles, the entirety of the major aristocracy moved too, as being physically close to the king meant you had a share in power. Staying in your duchy in the south (for example) would leave you completely out of any governmental decisions. However, in England, thanks to the Magna Carter, when the barons forced the king into enshrining the rights of the nobility in law, the king had to allow the nobility to aid in running the country, even if they were in their own provinces at the time. When the Wars of the Roses started, the nobility were the ones who ruled their own parts of the country, keeping relative law and order whilst the monarchy imploded. Government was decentralised, and although the king still had the majority of the power, delegation was much more common, as a way of keeping the unruly nobles on your side.
So, England had a decentralised governmental system, and France had a centralised one focused on power of the king. But then why was it that the majority of the actions of the Revolution, taking place in Paris, have such a huge effect on the entire country?
If one goes back to the 12th century, then the Early Plantagenet Kings of England not only ruled the British Isles, but also half of France, one can see that the French kings didn’t have a lot of wriggle room in terms of where they could govern from. The traditional seat of Rheims was primarily in English hands (and would fall into them again in the Hundred Years War), so Paris, as a major city situated helpfully on the Seine, seemed a good spot. The fact that the parlements - French Law courts, nothing like our governmental system - were set up there meant that a bond of government between the king and Paris was established. When the King moved to Versailles, Paris might have felt like it’s age old right to the inner workings of government had been stripped from them. With the Revolution itself, Paris becomes the seat of all government, and so the usual ripples of edicts made by the king, and filtering through the rest of France, is replaced by similar ripples made by the Revolutionaries. England never had this problem. Thanks to the nobles being in the countryside, the kings laws were enforced with more rapidity, and although Westminster (now incorporated into London) was the seat of Government, there was never as much of a sense that Government belonged in the Capital, not least because the king travelled around so much, taking the government with him.
There is also the simple fact that England is much smaller than France, so messages could get to the edges of the country quicker.
Another thing to consider is the fact that by the 18th c, England has been through several civil wars where the nobles had fought against the king. This weakens the absolute monarchy to the state where we have a government that is more biased towards a rule by the people, although in practice the rotten boroughs etc meant that Parliament was by no means perfect. To my knowledge, France doesn’t have that. The king is rarely rebelled against, or has his head cut off by the nobles or governmental bodies. The medieval idea of the divine right to rule is never challenged, and as a result, the feudal Estates mean that the government of the country is in the hands of about 5% of the populace, whilst the majority just have to accept the fact there is nothing they can do.
Finally, I would like to point out that the French people, as a result of being unable to have a say in their government for so long, have a history of rioting. The Bastille was built as the direct result of a major Parisien riot in the 13th c, and the Civil War between the Burgundians and the Armagnacs sees Parisiens happily chopping off peoples heads and barricading nobles into their palaces. The only way that the French people know of protesting is by violence. In England, we have the fact that the lords of the manor are more likely to listen to your pleas, common men can be elected to one of the Houses of Parliament. The people have more representation in government, so do not have as much incentive to riot.
If there is anything I have written that is inaccurate, or there is an example I have overlooked, do let me know.

you get to be his magna carter
Balustrade
Summary:
rouga's control and restraint and unnamed fear caught in the dip of the collarbone & one day you gently stroke his hair and begin "what if you could imagine a home?"
Notes:
(See the end of the work for notes.)
Work Text:
kyoya reclines back into his throne, and rouga can't help but wonder
if his back ever gets stiff and his posture ever aches to keep up.
that full-throated smile with fang hidden behind curving lip, quarter-lidded eyes like a moon hidden by slice of sky in the blood of eclipse.
kyoya is hungry like the moon of the month he was born in and maybe the name he gave Rouga was really the name he wanted to take.
maybe the wolf here is him, or maybe that's just the cured pelt he's going to hang from his shoulders when he's done with the sport of hunting down someone's fragile heart.
all rouga's ever wanted is to live free bounding through the woods, to have a tree hollow all of his own (maybe) to come back to and food on the table in proper bowls and even that feels like a pointless shattering dream. nutty fragments disintegrating like bark on tree. it's not safe to dream so close to eagles.
and that's what the world is, a flock of beaks and feathers and flurried betrayal.
everyone migrates and moves on to other places where he can't reach because this boy never learnt how to fly.
but this king can't leave him he is bound to the shell of his humanity the little prince trapped with no snake to free him (yet) . kyoya is enslaved to the ground just like him by the weight of the golden crown tipping over his forehead lazily. and no, no, this wolf doesn't want to set his master free.
rouga will not lift the heavy pooling cloak off his small pale shoulders ( it only billows in the wind of the fleeing birds) . rouga cannot bring himself to slowly lift his hands up to the circlet of metal; a large handcuff around Kyoya's mind (the only possession of his that is weightless enough to float) because where would that leave him?
powerless and lonely with no soft shielding fur cloak for him to duck behind when the birds try to peck out his eyes.
he does not love this make believe clearing,
wooden hut of sticks and stones and buttons, or the leaves crumbled red twisted and scalish over the chocolate soil,
the dried tree roots stretching gnarled repeated lonesome, but he can convince himself that he does day by excruciating day. the alternative is a life in the cold and autumn is better than winter (when will he ever see spring?)
kyoya lays out the playing mat.
every wooden figurine painted sloppily in crimson and matte black soldiers playing at war and rouga chooses to move his knight because it's what brings a hard-won word of praise from his king. lips shaping in approval and all he wants to do is leave the court behind forsake the royalty for good but what is loyalty but the shackles of duty?
when has a canine ever pursued nothing but their own happiness?
what, this is for his own life?
for security?
ridiculous. he is wolf, he is not afraid.
he has convinced himself of it.
this is his friend not his king he wears no handcuff no collar and sees no crown on Kyoya's head what do you mean it's on my hand and it's smaller and there's a chain-
no, it's not, he never had a crown.
kyoya is not a king.
kyoya is just a boy who calls the birds and at once he hates and can't tear his eyes away from the beauty of the whispered spells Kyoya casts like nets over his prey. a prayer to the twisted desolate lands they call, mockingly,
home.
(maybe he is right, in a way, Kyoya is not a king he is a tyrant but then again wolves never objected to a little blood on their hands if it meant not going hungry again.)
rouga's king wears his own face.
same marbled hair, same snubby nose.
same tan skin and same curved fingernails, the only difference is he stinks of the weakness Rouga pushes away from his own aura it taunts him though and taints his mind. rouga's king is called fear, and he has never known a love worthy of defying his head for. it sits there in his shadow, egging him on with every move he makes. rouga's beautiful king is strong, knows all the ways anything could go wrong and keeps him from the paths that might lead to losing his heart.
it's the most precious of all, what has a wolf but his heart?
a paw the traps can take.
a skin can be worn and shedded. the fairytales tell of wolves who lose those; they survive. but if he gives this away not for any price,
there is nothing in the world that can redeem it for him.
no one to buy back his heart in the human marketplace.
so he feeds his fear,
this king, the scraps of his nightmares wrapped in gift paper and the secret things he covets in the windows of the street shops; the things he can't let himself want. the things he looks away from turns his back on.
how do you feed someone who's been starving for so long? they can't keep anything down. stomach so shrunken no food can get in there his world collapsed in a long time ago he's still there,
hands over head in that cave-in, touching the handprints left there a millennia ago on the walls for comfort.
he wants not to be scared anymore,
dear god he doesn't want to be scared anymore.
can't show any vital points regardless of how good how right it feels,
where would that lead only down a dark dead end and he'd be backed against a wall, again.
please no.
please, no.
covered in by clouds and smoke and snow and his
dreams grew so big they inflated and spiraled away from him like lost balloons filled of helium -
never took him with them though they moved off like giant pawns
and there he was in a body too small for his mind hope still too big and chest too tight.
he still hopes and that's why it hurts.
where do you get the pleasure from,
watching him curl up against himself to keep warm.
why do you banish and summon him back again.
just tell him you'll be there and his tail would be wagging in an instant he
can't control his own smile he tells himself it's foolish over
and over again but this soldier doesn't want this king anymore.
why is no longer a real question just a helpless plea.
so brave, always plunging but why is it that he can't trust his own hands with the scrawny little cubs he saves from starvation and hunger. running away from everything you brought salvation to because he tells himself it was an accident and
Rouga's so scared of ruining them this time.
can't be lucky forever, can you.
no he can't give them the single-minded warmth everyone needs,
everyone wants, (no one wants it more than him)
not that dedication and focus that is for the boy in the crown.
he will use them and what if they break.
what if he is the cause.
the guilt will leer down at him and he will collapse on all fours no strength to even crawl.
he is scared to death of being the cause of more victims and opening the door for the reaper and his scythe. he trembles when he thinks about telling the truth because even now, it must be selfish to want their company when he only has enough affection for one. nobody knows who he's hollering this to, who he's trying to convince.
people look at him and see the labels stuck on the back of his tunic and call him by those names. they mean it kindly. rouga always flinches. he is not that way, he says, he insists, but if you paid attention to him if you love him you will wrap your arms around him because the doubt and fear still reigns but there is a coup and the soldiers need warmth with a burning desperation.
your hugs are peace, the only kind he's ever felt.
caress his head hold him steady in rollicking seas he needs the steaming mug of hot sweet strong tea and that voice soothing "I will be there when it's over," to keep up the fight.
you know him now. you are responsible for loving him right. and he is trying, dear god, he is trying so hard that you must run this race with him all the way until the end or have small mercies and leave.
if you ever loved him, give him notice before you break his heart.
you know him now, you are responsible for unlocking that handcuff and following him wherever he floats. you build a boat that floats across the sky to make sure you never lose sight of him but never once should you hold him down don't even try if you love him you must know he needs to fly.
you must learn to fly.
if you love him you will give him the wings you cut slip from your back and
if maybe he loves you as much he will win the war and
he
might
come
back.
if you want the right to love him you need to meet his monsters and have the gall to tell them,
"you did what you could to protect him. thank you for being there when I couldn't. thank you for keeping him safe when I wasn't there yet."
he is scared of the dark but you know that now; he is scared of the dark he is scared of so many things and one of them is himself you are scared too no one ever said love was born of being perfect but maybe love makes what is in it perfect.
you are scared of the dark.
you stay in it with him still, ready and waiting for any time he might make his own quiet request
for you to let him go, or pull him in
close.

Ukraine War: How the West is Helping Ukraine
Ukraine War: How the West is Helping Ukraine
It can be stated without a doubt that Ukrainians would have already lost their war of independence from 2014 present-day without assistance from the NATO alliance and nations that are part of the Western world. The Western world can be divided into two categories. The world order created after World War II incorporated the United States of America and parts of Western and Central Europe; South…

Spock vs Q
Finally got around to finding how torrents work, and just listened to Spock vs Q, and would gladly recommend it to anyone.
It does have many Star trek references, but you don't need that to appreciate the message of human's being able to self-determine their future, to be able to change the 'inevitability' of global warming or other catastrophe.
The energy between Leonard Nimoy and John de Lancie is so good, and you can hear their actions and playfulness through the audio.
I may update with the sequel.
Also, these are the reasons for humans to survive as a species
10 reasons for humanity to be saved; The verbal joust Drafter of the magna carter Invention of the abacus Composed the Jupiter symphony Painted starry night Danced the dying swan Stonehenge The imperial city The pyramids of Giza Discovered radium Spun sugar into cotton candy (well candy floss, they are American) Fashioned gutta-percha into a ball, encased it in dimpled white, hit it with a long stick 500 yards into a tin cup and made the practitioners of this feat rich men.
10 inventions for humanities saviour; Adobe The button The candle Chopsticks Floating soap The flush toilet Ketchup The kite The slinky Thanksgiving day Oh yes, and not in alphabetical order, Hey Jude.

The new Pierre Poilievre campaign video is totally absurd. The convoluted wood metaphore.. the warping of the magna carter’s history.. the thinly veiled white supremacist talking points.. positioning himself as an outsider to “big government” when he’s worked in politics since he could walk. You really have to be an idiot to buy into his words at face value
