[A pretty interesting thing to consider in regards to these two is the fact that Bahamut pretty much ruined Kaze's life, in more ways than one. Beginning with Kaze's belief that the Magun would end him in a span of few years at most, forcing him to break his promise to Aura that they would live out their lives peacefully - as well as the fact that the Unlimited of the Magun being born of Windaria was what doomed his entire planet, and his people, to death.]
[Bahamut, and his Weapon, is the reason Chaos set its sights on Kaze and Windaria in the first place. Kaze, of course, considers it all his fault because he was born branded with superstiton, a curse of calamity. Believing that being the chosen vessel of Destruction, blessed with its power, also doomed everything he loved to that same fate of being destroyed.]
[Realistically, Kaze should hate Bahamut. But he does not. He hates himself at times, yes. But to hate the dragon specifically would threaten their connection at its core. The reason Kaze is Bahamut's Unlimited is because their souls and personalities sync closely enough that a mortal can take on an immortal's role and become an impersonal, impartial, force of nature. If Kaze were to hate Bahamut, it would be akin to driving a wedge between them - acknowledging the Magun, which had become his very heart, as a separate entity, a cause of his torment. In a way, Kaze proceeding to erase the distinction to the point of considering himself "the Gun" itself also allows him to direct his self-loathing in a way that isn't an outright rejection of his purpose. He loathes the concept of himself as something that needs to exist and views the universe - or whoever, whatever is in charge of it - as cruel for even allowing the Unlimited / Chaos conflict to be a part of it.]
[Back when I was writing with the mun of Kumo, there was a moment where Kaze came dangerously close to threatening his connection with the Magun. Going as far as to think to himself, "don't do it, Bahamut" when considering his purpose going against Kumo in the moment which would lead to him hurting him terribly in the future. Rejecting the mission, and everything it drives him to do, is rejecting his very nature as Destruction's Unlimited. Which is why Kaze will always follow that nature, no matter how many people, even those dearly beloved to him, he has to betray.]

⋆˖⁺‧₊☽◯☾₊‧⁺˖⋆ Kira here to ramble about 1 ☁️ cloud in general because he's decided the only thing he wants to do is burrow in his loft nest and dance.
So I need you all to think of puff in a universal format because he is a god and he will always be a God. My favorite way to think of Kumo is more of a concept than a man. He is not a weapon. He is not a ghost. He's the literal manifestation of Salvation born to a body of flesh.
Kumo IS life manifest
Or is he? In a sense, yes and in a sense, no. He would be the manifest of Death honestly and that would make sense since the color for death in Japan is white. He's a bit of both.
Mist is a the straight line of life but he would be the one to hands the souls in their passing over to the spiral of rebirth and in turn would be the one who guides the souls along this path to lead them to their Salvation or in another way of thinking - a release from the mortal coil and their responsibilities of this plane.
It's such a strange thing to think of - Salvation in a mortal view - but Kumo isn't mortal so you can't think of anything he does through that lense. He would guide the living to Salvation by finding their resting place be it through a gentle passing or unsavory means.
Kumo is Unlimited and therefore he is a limitless amount of things and concepts and the very cosmos itself. He is a celestial. He is a dragon born and a God brought into the mortal coil in order to better understand the creatures and beings he serves.
Mist becomes him and Soil his distant cousin. These two forces once co-existed until the primordial darkness of Chaos sought to twist their nature and put them against each other.
The Universe is supported by three pillars - Creation, Destruction and Evolution - but when one of them is out of balance the Universe shall fall to Chaos. If one of them fades out then the very fabric of reality would collapse. These pillars have taken form in the flesh of Valkoinen Pilvi, Svaardzjetrorahm and Anarchy.
More commonly known as Heaven, Earth and Evolution. They make the very pillars that hold up the fabric of the realms as we know them. So it's different when you think of Kumo in such a way.
What kind of mortal -turned immortal or not- could withstand such damage as a shattered soul and survive? What kind of mortal could die so many times even in an immortal life and not lose their sanity?
They couldn't. Exactly. But Kumo is not a mortal man nor he has ever been. He is the very God who now commands the heavens. He just hasn't figured that out yet.
So that's the fun part of this man right now.
He's very cosmic and he very much can die.
Kumo was born immortal but was made mortal by the Maken as he was given a way to die this is in stark contrast to his Other, Kaze whom has always been a mortal man but was made much harder to kill by way of the Magun.
Kumo is an endless life that is being faced with the possibility of death.
Kaze is a sleepless death that is now walking the path of an eternal life.
They are two cosmic forces and through the paths they wak ever intertwining does the cosmos itself spin.
The Sun should rise high to shine in a never ending splendor as the Moon may yet set light depleted and strength spent as it falls new into slumber.
And the worse part of it all is neither of them will ever accomplish a damn thing if they cannot help each other. If they cannot just open their ears and listen. Where there is Creation, Destruction shall follow for nothing lasts forever but from the ashes of the Kingdoms wrought does man forever rebuild.
The first DVD cover hit with the whole "Yin and Yang" thing when it comes to their relationship and I cannot begin to tell you how much thought I have dropped into this subject because really they weren't even kidding.
Tumblr media
The true goal here is to seek balance between the pillars because as long as the pillars are warring there can never be true peace. As long as the pillars are warring there can only be turmoil and there can only be Chaos.
It's learning that creation can create by destroying and destruction can destroy to create. There must be a harmony because without it, it's being stuck in the forever limbo of never moving forward or falling backwards. It's existing in the space of between of a listless nothingness that shows no hope or progression.
Chaos forces the cycle to move by destroying and recycling worlds. Chaos forces the cycle of the very cosmos to spin but it needs to be maintained in a way that it isn't doing it with such wanton violence and lustful greed.
Chaos' current problem has always been the quote from Earl Tyrant in episode 14. "But yet this isn't nearly enough. I want more. MORE! MORE MORE MORE MORE!"
Chaos has grown unchecked and in turn out of balance. The trick here is balancing what already exists. Wiping anything out of existence is damning the Cosmos itself. It's destroying an entire pillar of the universe and in turn breaking the fabric of reality as a whole.
It's their strange Co-Dependent relationship that needs to be monitored and maintained because if it is anything less then things can get out of control and if it is more than that when it becomes suffocating and controlling.
The Gods need to learn to play nice here is what I'm saying because there is so much more going on then "defeating the big bad in a boss fight". It's just not that simple and Kumo is very much starting to realize that.

FFU / Pokemon Thought Dump
I literally cant remember if I've talked about this but I just remembered this thing with Kaze from the dub where he goes "I know nothing of ideals" (the whole scene drives me nuts might I add) but theres only one other time in my life I have heard the word "ideals" and it's with Pokemon STAY WITH ME HERE
Listen this perfectly fits them right. "Reshiram was used by the Hero of Truth" which I feel would lean more for Kaze and "Zekrom was used by the Hero of Ideals" Which then could be taken by Makenshi to be the opposite of Kaze, and you might be thinking "ANDY Wouldnt Reshiram aesthetically fit Makenshi more being that it is a large white dragon with flowing attributes and fire, like the time Makenshi blew open an entrance to the comodeen" and I say yes but that's the thing.
During the final episode Kaze's soil is literally "Endless White". Reshiram is a big ass white dragon just like the final thing ever summoned by the Magun (in the anime, at least). And I think it'd be cool that if they did have those dragons, they do look quite similar to the dudes themselves. It'd be like an angsty reminder of their old friend </33333

/ Ngl the way Kaze’s heart resides in the Magun and Kumo’s the sword has the same vibes Kisara and her connection to the dragon
like not eve talking fanon/hc straight cannon and also genral Egyptian belief with the Soul, being made up of many parts. (seems to depend on the dynasty anywhere from like 5 or more)
Khet - physical body
Sah - Spirtual body
Ren- Name
Ka- a bit more vague, frequently translated as double which actually isn’t correct as there’s really no exact Egyptian definitian that can be used for the word/ has many meanings. Simply it’s just another part of the soul/ what’s viewed to make up a person. With a seeming strong connection to like fostering emotions and manifesting in the physical world
(So I’d say the spirity monsters are a good reflection of it fostered by emotion and with the ability to also have agency in the physical world)
Ba- Personality
Shut- Shadow
Sekhem- Form
(I’ve also seen listed Ib heart)
--
Out of all of these it’s especially the Ka- and how even if there’s no physical body the Ka would remain living seperate.
--
And in away that’s kind of how Kisara is (or how I interpreted it) in that if her physical body is killed she lives one in spirit as the Dragon.
However on the flip it still does need a physical host to survive (Much in how she comes to reside with Set/Seto and also kinda what Aknadin’s plan is)
Oh and also how with everyone else with their Ka summon is connected to a physical stone tablet (that I’m pretty sure if it was destroyed and it was your own and not a different spirit beast summoned you’d be dead maybe)
-
All this to say idk kinda like how they’re tied to their weapons and I mean yeh they can still get hurt but so long as the physical weapon isn’t damaged they’d remain I guess?
--
idk if I’m even making sense or if I’m just the ‘I connected 2 things’ “you didn’t connect shit’ meme

100 Days of Headcanon || Day 5: Strength
Tumblr media
⋆୨𖤓୧⋆ Kaze has an unfair advantage in the world when it comes to strength. He is the Unlimited of Destruction and Divine Vessel to Lord Bahamut. So he has the strength of a dragon and can life well more than his own body weight. He's built like a tank and can lift, his Other, Kumo (White Cloud) as if he weight basically nothing with one arm. Kumo weighs about 200 pounds mind you and does, in fact, not weigh nothing but Kaze can lift him and the Maken with minimal effort.
To him, Kumo is basically weightless.
Kaze also carries his own body weight oddly as his right arm from the elbow down is fused with the golden casing of the sealed Magun. It's caused his body to become slightly lopsided when holding his weight correctly, so he's a bit stronger on his right side than he is on his left if only because his body has had to learn to compensate.
Nothing Kaze carries on him is light. Even his clothing is heavy, but he's built like a tank and just naturally carries his mass differently than a human or a Misterican would. On his left hip, Kaze carries a red shotgun that he fires one handed with expert aim - so to say he's stronger on his right side is not to say he's weak on his left by any means. His left side is also extremely powerful due to the nature of his fighting style.

[kazeofthemagun] ☼  Cuddling on the sofa next to each other. He doesn't mind at all her affection, choosing to return it in kind by wrapping his arms around her form as they rest, draping black cloth over the woman like the blanket it was. He's quiet, just like always, a unique brand of silence nestled within a hollowed chest, was that where he kept all his rare poetry...? But the golden home to his heart is gently warm, pressed into her skin, warm like the scales of a content dragon stretched out lazily upon having eaten a good and filling meal. They could fall asleep like that. How nice to have such company during colder days.
...The sofa may be a bit too small for both but the solution seems to be no different than stacking items upon a shelf.
Acts of Affection. @kazeofthemagun
There was something that she found so endearing about the way he laid upon the sofa that was just a touch too short for him. Especially when he was awake and stared back her way, cape covering over the lower half of his face and reminding her of a squished goblin. She's smiling more now. She always does this. But something even more enjoyable than viewing her Hunter upon the couch like so was joining him. Crawling upon the narrow edge in order to mostly drape atop him, the witch's limbs tangled with his own as she settled into place with his assistance. How her eyes alight when he makes his adjustments and wraps not only his arms around her but as well his cape in the process.
The warmth her Warrior exudes is intoxicating, even when already being warmed beneath his makeshift blanket she finds herself pressing closer - melding their bodies together as though to complete a puzzle. A deep and content sigh leaves her, finding comfort in the simple act of holding him close. Despite the silence that comes from his chest she finds it peaceful, able to appreciate the steady rhythm of his breathing with the side of her face nestled against him.
Her Hunter is warmth incarnate. It shouldn't surprise her when he's marked by the Phoenix. Ever since they restored him she noticed the difference, even with the Magun and how it didn't often chill her skin upon being touched. Even now as its weight rested comfortably against her she found it pleasantly warm. These things hardly surprised the witch, to her the Hunter embodied a hot summer day - sometimes with the potential of a storm, other times not. Encompassed by all the things that made him, him. There was not a chill to be found upon her body now, so at ease within his flames.
Each breath he took reminded her of summer nights by the campfire, the way a breeze could cut through the trees to pull and push the fire - scattering embers. How this lovely soul could make such a simple act such as breathing feel so personal, she'd never know.
All she is certain of is that the warmth he shares with her she has to give back. What she lacks in body she has in heart. Compassion wound like vines around her ribs, housing within all her affections for the Hunter. How easily she can hold him so securely and yet be boneless all at once is a mystery - only serving to highlight the extent of just how safe she feels to be still for a time with him. For once her limbs do not feel restless. The feeling she must be doing something is nowhere to be found. Her scars go unfelt. There's just them, in this moment of fond relaxation.
Tumblr media
And as her eyes flutter shut to not necessarily sleep, but simply indulge and rest, a light kiss is pressed atop his sternum where she knows his scar rests beneath. Though his heart has been relocated it doesn't change the wordless message in the least.

@druidquest replied to your post “@wearesummoner, @we-are-artillerist, could I interest either of you in...”
VINCENT VALENTINE???
Girrrrrrrrl, it’s worse than that.
Here, have a seat and let me tell you about an anime that’s so dumb it’s genius: Final Fantasy Unlimited (FFU from here on out -- because).
There are four main characters:
Tumblr media
Ai (the redheaded girl) and Yu (the boy) Hayakawa. They’re twins. They have basically no personality beyond gender (and hair color) and no powers beyond the magic items they get as the show goes on.
Ai (”Love”) is “fiery” but practical. Her item is PoshePocket, a living bag of devouring which sometimes gives her hammerspace items.
Yu (”Courage”) is more impulsive but quicker to trust. He gets a magical feather which lets him communicate with Chobi.
Chobi is the chocobo biting Ai’s hair (a running gag). His only power is being a “Ciel Chocobo” (having flight armor).
Tifa Lockhart Tifa by way of Aerith Lisa Pacifist, a special operative who is trained in the Kigen Arts (which she mainly uses to erect force fields). She acts like their babysitter, basically.
...and...
Tumblr media
Vincent Valentine Kuroki Kaze (”Black Wind” and translated as such in the dub), who is usually just called Kaze (in both).
He’s an Unlimited. We’re not really sure what that is, but we do know that they are basically indestructible and have some other powers -- in his case, the magun (maybe -- other people can use it, but it doesn’t usually work out well for them). He’s amnesiac, barely speaks, exhibits almost no personality or emotions, and yet is the best main character.
Plot
After a pair of dragon kaiju attacked our world, the Hayakawa twins’ parents go missing, so the two go looking for them. Lisa runs into them as she’s trying to do her job and the three wind up on a train which takes them to a mysterious place called Wonderland. They go wandering around trying to figure out what the Hell is going on in this place (and find the missing Hayakawa parents) and run into danger. Kaze (whom they had encountered previously) appears in the nick of time, is mildly surprised when the prosthetic on his arm “moves,” and then goes through a transformation/summoning sequence (partially seen in the other post).
This formula happens almost once an episode. There aren’t very many episodes in which it doesn’t happen and they tend to be either very plot-heavy or boring. The show goes on like this for 25 episodes as the main characters with dialogue (from our world) become more and more embroiled in the machinations of the Earl Tyrant and his Four Lords of Gaudium, who have nefarious plans involving Chaos.
You can imagine why this show got cancelled as quickly as it did, but you’d be wrong! In fact, the show didn’t get canceled so much as defunded -- because of how badly Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within flopped in the box office. The show condenses its original two seasons (52 episodes) into one season and drops a lot of info. Much of that would later get released in various other formats.
Oh, and if you thought that Kaze and Lisa were the only Final Fantasy VII allusions, may I introduce you to Kaze’s rival and fellow Unlimited, Makenshi (~”Magic Swordsman”), aka Shiroi Kumo/White Cloud?
Tumblr media
A taciturn, powerful swordsman with spiky hair, a bishounen countenance, and some access to magic (in his case, he breathes Mist, which he can use to summon Mist Dragons). He has another rival in the form of his brother, Madoushi (”Mage”), aka Akai Kiri (”Red Mist”), who is similar but red (hair and clothes), has long hair (an anime mullet), and is thoroughly evil (IIRC).
So Cloud Strife by way of Mytho from Princess Tutu.
(Technically, he’s also a protagonist. Further spoilers.)
Why do I mention the show ever?
Because as dumb looking as the conspicuous CGI summons are and as over the top as the summoning sequences may be, it’s a lot of fun to watch Kaze declare which colored bullets he’s going to use to summon stuff.
And by “stuff,” I include Phoenix (as shown), Titan (a robot...), and Meteor Master (which is a barely recognizable Tonberry before it screams; launches itself into the sky; and rains fiery, meteoritic ruination upon the land).

So, I've been stewing, like I do. But while stewing, something occurred to me.
See, LQ would complain about having to have something unwanted happen to Kaze -- usually in the form of "doing X to a character without giving them a way out is against RP etiquette." The appeal to an external, artificial, and ultimately imaginary authority figure is already a bad ploy with me (hiding behind an artificial, irrelevant, and ultimately imaginary authority figure instead of just saying "I don't like X" like a normal human being) and one I vociferously rejected both publicly and privately. However, the meat of her complaint -- that she shouldn't be forced to have something happen to her character -- also struck me wrong. After all, everything I've done has been in jest (meaning both funny and not meant to affect serious RP), innocuous, temporary, and a source of potential future material (drawings, jokes, whatever). On top of it, the effects themselves were low-power (WoW's version of baleful polymorph is much weaker than D&D's), I made it a point of having effects work on Meow (turnabout is fair play), and clever uses of known or knowable abilities in all such RP circumvent the need for things like saving throws.
But then I realized that this is par for the course. See, Kaze is a Mary Sue. Despite having almost no dialogue and the personality of a rock, Kaze still manages to be an edgelord brooder type. He's also Unlimited, meaning he is immortal, invulnerable to ordinary damage, able to dish out damage on a Biblical scale (via summoned monsters), and killable by another Unlimited (or similarly powerful character) but will resurrect from that because his hand cannon is also a phylactery. Her RP with him has ran with this such that even when seeking prompts for fears, he only ever responds angrily (Broody McEdgelord).
But there are two big weaknesses.
First, like so many Final Fantasy characters, Kaze's abilities aren't inherent to him (the only skill he seems to have is using a gun): they come from his equipment, or so was LQ's RP. It was a convoluted elaboration of the show's poor writing, but basically the Magun is an embodiment of Bahamut/Gun Dragon and bonds with a gunner a la a Warlock's patron. Effectively, Kaze is a mortal gunslinger murderhobo (no exaggeration) who also has the abilities of a demigodlike caster because he has a magic item.
Second, citing some concept art but not much else, LQ decided that the heart in the Magun (which begins to beat after it thaws) is Kaze's, that the item is attached to his bloodstream, and that the whole thing is also his life support system. Not only is that contradictory with his other abilities, but it's thoroughly disproved in episode 8 of the show (the canon), when the Magun gets taken from him against his will.
This combination means that if I wanted, I could have Meow cast Mordenkainen's disjunction on the Magun. Since the Magun is an artifact, Meow would have to save or lose casting, but the DC is low enough that Meow can't fail the save except on a nat 1 (using conservative estimates of Meow's stats and known equipment). If optimized to avoid failing Will saves (as is important with casters), even that couldn't stop Meow. Meanwhile, Meow has a 1 in 5 chance of disjoining the Magun and six attempts per day to do so (possibly seven if I managed to raise Cha slightly above bare minimum). If disjoined, the Magun is destroyed and cannot be recreated. This would kill Kaze, if we're using LQ's ideas, but it wouldn't just kill him: it would leave him as the corpse of an ordinary mortal gunslinger hobo; even if resurrected through a spell, Kaze would have lost everything: his summoning magic, his patron, his invincibility, his immortality, and his ability to self-recover (allowing the deceased Kaze to keep on resurrecting).
Tumblr media
I'm positive: this guy has acquired abilities of the Dark Gundam WITH THE HELP OF KYOJI!
One spell.
A core spell. A powerful one, but one that should be expected getting thrown around at high levels regularly, at least by DMs.
Yet, here I am, casting mid and low level spells at reduced power. Or imprisoning Warshaper for eating me, but that's a different matter.
Point being, by working within a rules set and putting in almost no effort, I could have given my character the ability to destroy everything about hers permanently -- and easily at that.
I should have made note of this a year ago, when she first began getting so God Modey. "Oh, I'm an incredibly high-level mage except you aren't a mage, you're a guy with a toy who takes himself entirely too seriously, so I shouldn't be susceptible to any spell effect, even if another incredibly powerful mage who actually is a mage is the one casting it!" 🙄

Appreciate a Dragon Day!
[So, Kaze's bonded Esper, whose form he can take - Bahamut, the God in the Magun! I thought it may be nice to show off some art of him that has accumulated here + concept for this special day :)) and that's not all. For more art be sure to visit his tag. Even if the older art before I had the actual artbook is godawful. XD Cheers.]

BAHAMUT.
[Entry 25 of the roster, the God in the Gun. The consciousness behind the Magun and the patron god of Soil, Bahamut is the dark half of the dragon siblings, a deity of death, rebirth and the Spiral. Once hailed across many lands, now forgotten, the ancient beast had been slain and reforged into a biomechanical abomination, slumbering within the Gun in wait for his rightful wielder. Bahamut is a creature of many names and even more titles; Some notable ones including: the Dragon Lord, Marduk (through his vessel), Tiababylo, Ro Vraddjeadlathr.]
[Many ages have come and gone since the Magun's creation, and so many warriors dared and failed to wield it. Lacking a detailed prophecy, Windaria decided to establish a line of Champions in hope of finding the right one to bear their god's armament. Though promising great power, the Gun is a cursed relic indeed - draining the life of its users and warping their bodies to better accommodate Soil flow. The price of a deity's power is steep; Even now godvessel Marduk suffers the consequences greatly.]
———
“The light that fills up your eyes, Tears of the Rainbow.”
“The ultimate spirit, Soul Gunmetal.”
“The helix of my life, Endless White.”
“Reign! I summon you! Bahamut!”

Espers - beasts from the Soil's dreams
The Summoner's Arsenal
Tumblr media
The Espers are the original children of Bahamut, created before reality had fully solidified into what it is today. As such, they are formless beings, existing as invisible spirits and permeating their respective domains.
So, then, how did these incorporeal spirits become the living creatures we know? An Esper is born twice. First, through the dream of a creator god - Bahamut - or an event of sufficient cosmic intensity to briefly "liquefy" reality, making it malleable and thus bringing dreams and wishes into existence. The latter has notably been observed with the creation of Madeen from the collective dreams of the Moogles who died in Windaria's fall.
The Esper's second birth is their awakening to their name and domain. What element or concept an Esper governs largely depends on mortals' perception of them. For example, many Espers were born out of emotion - fear and reverence of lightning giving shape to Ixion, the gratitude for the sun's warmth giving rise to Phoenix. Some Espers even chose to assimilate or fuse with mortals that had inspired them. In this way, Espers are spirits observing the world around them before finally deciding on the form and name they would then bear for the rest of eternity. Doing so mirrors Bahamut's second awakening as the God of Destruction, born from the mass perception of the Architects.
Before reality had attained its final shape - word and belief itself was divine. To believe and wish strongly was to create. This power was reserved mostly to the God Siblings, though mortals managed to influence the world and even the very deities on their own. That is why the original world was oft referred to as the "Cradle" - not only because it was the birthplace of the Architects and the spirits of Soil and Mist, but because it was the place this malleable dreaming period took place.
Many of the Architects' technologies harnessed and amplified the power of this "dream" before the Soul of All fully delaminated into Soil and Mist. This is how some managed to glean the future or even defy death, existing in a perpetual pseudo-summoned state within crystal vessels. Such practice was looked down upon by Bahamut, the Dragon Lord taking it as defiance of his proper order of death and rebirth. In response, he wreaked havoc upon the Cradle, awakening two Espers to their role as warrior gods. Such deities became known as Odin, the Lord of the Wild Hunt, and Raiden, the Bladedancer, alternatively known in Windarian mythos as Lanmuarach and Barachevelt respectively.
Bahamut's order, as juxtaposed to Tiamat's Straight Line, is the Spiral. Portrayed as a spiral descending staircase, it is the means to rebirth. In Windarian mythos, spiral architecture and particularly staircases were thought of as sacred geometry and commonly utilized in temples. That is one of the reasons the Pillar of Darkness (Black Spear) became a holy symbol among the Wind cult.
Spiral motion is a known catalyst for Soil, bringing out its elemental properties. Most efficient Soil engines utilized rotors and drillers, powered by the Soil and powering it in return. The consistency of motion is a key ingredient, seeing as any fluctuation may destabilize the Soil and result in undesirable energy discharges and engine damage. The technology was first devised by the Architects, notably present in the design of the Magun, the Imhullu of Bahamut and Marduk.

The true form of Phoenix
The Espers answer to Bahamut as their King, but their power can be called upon by mortals with sufficient sacrifice. As spirits of Soil, they are closely intertwined with death and rebirth, the very process of summoning reflecting that truth. To call forth an Esper is to present an offering of three souls and one's own blood - their ritualistic mixing accompanied by song or poetry bringing out a corporeal shape for the beast, essentially dreamed up by the dead. In this way, the summoning is a brief second life for the departed, though bound by the summoner's will and the called beast's purpose. Willpower dictates the power of the summoning - both the mage's, and the triad of spirits. To successfully control the Esper, the summoner's willpower must match or exceed that of the beast, even if the creature chooses to obey willingly. This control is then exercised through the blood link estabilished during the ritual.
However; The act of offering the beast one's own blood is simultaneous with binding it to one's life essence. As such, the manifested monster will now drain the mage's energy, and prolonged summoning may render a person unconscious or even dead. Furthermore, any wounds the Esper suffers will strain that link - and any wounds the summoner suffers will also be felt by the Esper. Any lapse in concentration may prove to be the entire ritual's undoing. This is why simply attacking the person in control of the spirit is often the best idea when combating summoners.
The souls offered in the invoked beast's name must not be randomly selected - their color and essence, or personality, must match the Esper of choice. Souls of fire and steel may be used to invoke Ifrit, for instance, while spirits of water and persistence may be used to call Bismarck. There is a great deal of nuance in the process, which is why summoners usually spend years attuning to the ritual and contemplating the Esper's role in nature.

Kaze's Phoenix sygni
A Windarian summoner's sygni is an oath taken to their Summoner Order and Esper of choice. By custom, the sygni is represented by a tattoo underneath the mage's right eye, invoking the myth of Bahamut's right eyes being used to perceive justice and order and the left eyes being used to perceive chaos (not to be confused with the deity Chaos) and change. Notably, the Soil Missionaries accompanying the summoners (who were also referred to as Soil Adherents) wore their own sygni underneath their left eye, representing the inconstant nature of matter and the spirit's crystallization upon death. Doing so was symbolic of their own purpose as members of the martyr caste, readily offering their Soil - and with it, their life - to their summoner partner in time of need.
Their version of the sygni pattern was most often less complex.

Kupo's "lesser" Phoenix sygni
It was once believed that offering one's own soul to a summoning and thus, becoming part of the called beast was an entryway to Paradise. The act was known as "ascension" and widely idealized by the fanatical Wind cult. This is not true, seeing as souls sacrificed to Espers are eventually scattered and subjected to the Spiral just the same as all others.

Anonymous asked the summoner:
Kaze, does the Magun hum when it's not moving? What has it told you as of late?
Tumblr media
The Hunter regarded the stranger with an unreadable expression.
Tumblr media
"...What does your own heart whisper to you?" He answered cryptically, resting his remaining hand on the golden sarcophagus. It wasn't that the Magun did not speak, no; The machine beast was very much alive, and so was he. It was merely that there was no language to describe the kind of noise it produced, simultaneously soundless and roaring proud and loud as a dragon.
"It says the same thing as it ever does." The gunmage's eyes closed, and he fell silent. That was the extent of what he was willing to share.

@lil-kissy asked the summoner:
Hold me, please
Tumblr media
A head of crimson hair turned even before the request was spoken. Such a little, shaking thing, tiny hands rubbing teary eyes as sleep refused to come.
Wonderland was a scary place. It only took, refusing to give - and denied salvation so relentlessly and cruelly. Slowly did it chip at the sanity of this lonely child, this child in desperate need of love but with nobody to turn to.
So she turned to him.
Wordlessly, the Hunter opened his cape, inviting the girl into his warmth. Large arms pulled her closer, gently, as the demon machine's heartbeat drummed softly against her back. The Magun's rhythm was loud, but comforting. Like a war song of a magnificent beast, a protector whose presence chased away all worry. Under this dragon's wing, she was safe and sound. No horrors would sneak past the Wind to torment her now.
His vigil was eternal and absolute.
Tumblr media
"Hush." Kaze whispered, allowing a calloused hand to lightly pet back snowy locks. If there was one thing he was good at, it was keeping watch in the night and if that was to include hugging a scared child to sleep, he supposed he could do that much for her.

@cursedfortune asked the summoner:
Local witch wordlessly takes hold of the Magun far more gently than is needed. Despite its sturdiness and her confidence in it, she still is always careful and kind to the heart within (at least when they weren't sparring). Leaning down she pressed a kiss to the metal, a silent means of proclaiming words he knew well by now.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Her approach was met with a stare of wide blue eyes, an innocent curiosity in place of the stark indifference the Hunter had grown so very used to displaying. There was a question in his gaze, knowing there to be a purpose with which she had come to lower herself beside him. Not that there needed to be one.
The gunmage's cloak parted in invitation, revealing the vessel of his heart - which happened to be the target of the Witch's attention.
Wordlessly he allowed her to take hold of the gilded machine as painted lips found their way down, pressing against warm metal like she were kissing skin. The Magun was just as much a part of him as he was of it, two beings irrevocably intertwined until the lines blurred into but the haziest of memories.
When coal eyes finally lifted, they would find ones of deep cerulean, gazing with a gentleness so entirely unbecoming of a living Weapon. "I never told you," He began, the deep rumble of his voice only the most soothing tune. "But I can feel in the metal, like I do in my own flesh."
It was strange, but the Dragon's Cannon was no mundane device, after all. In the end, he was glad it turned out like this rather than the opposite way around. Life would be so much harder without any sense of touch or temperature.
But, most of all, he could never experience a kiss from the one so dear to his heart.
Tumblr media
"......"
He knew now, how the Espers felt. Made of machinery and crystal, yet feeling nonetheless. It only made sense, considering what they were forged from.
Before Mortem's hands could retreat, Kaze swiftly gripped her closer wrist, pulling it softly closer. It was his turn now to lean, pressing a featherlight kiss to pale skin.
If the Witch insisted on spoiling him, she better be prepared to receive her Hunter's affection as well.

Anonymous asked:
The Magun has been destroyed.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
"You know, Stranger, it is unbecoming to tell lies. The Magun cannot be destroyed. Not by any normal means anyway and I certainly haven't raised my blade against it. The Dragon Cannon can only be destroyed by two forces in the known universe and that being Chaos and Myself.
Are you saying Chaos killed my Other? Is that what you're trying to tell me? Black Wind would not die so easily. I certainly didn't raise my sword to him, nor would I ever. The Dragon Lord's cannon is nigh indestructible.
Do you think me a fool? I can feel him. I can hear him.
The Magun and the Maken are twin weapons made to house the God Siblings and rulers of this very realm. You think it would be destroyed so easily? I have felt that gun's wrath with my own two hands when I pulled the trigger myself. To insinuate such a thing.
How dare you!!
Get out of my sight before I become cross with this nonsense! Do you think I'm an idiot? That I would fall for such a ruse? Black Wind is not dead. He would never leave me here to deal with that monster on my own and he would never be fool enough to face it by himself.
To think I would even entertain such lunacy...."
