Why fight for a ship being canon if you can make the two (or three or more) ships canon at the same time?

can i also point out that i personally think that some of these ships are gross ie: zukaang,tokka, jetkotara,maikotara or just weird like maitara, jetara, azumai, jetko azuaang and zutara and even tho i added jetara and jetko to the list its bc that definitely happened but its also sorta toxic

Mai and Zuko?

Why I ship them (or why I do not): Oooh. So my journey with this ship is kind of an interesting one. I used to hate them. But lately, I’ve grown to appreciate them more. I think they can balance each other out really well once they get their groove. I love how Zuko appreciates how much of a badass his gf is. And I think Mai’s cool temper could make her good for Zuko, who does need to be grounded sometimes. They have some good angst scenes too. (Hello Boiling Rock). They’re still not my otp by any means (just look at my UN lol) but they’re cute. And as far as canon ships go, I much prefer them over K*taang.

My favorite moment between them: That scene where Mai confront him on the boiling rock because I’m an angst hoe. And that moment when Zuko locks the door on her and they lock eyes for those few seconds? Chills.

My least favorite moment between them: A lot of their interactions with each other in The Beach before their resolution. They were both pretty rude to each other multiple times throughout that episode.

The character I prefer: I’ve grown to appreciate Mai much more than I used but Zuko has been my messy son for years now. The only characters that hold a candle to him for me are Katara and Azula.

A fanfic idea for them that I would love to read or write: This is kind of cheating because it’s not really a Mai/Zuko idea but a Maikotara one (Zuko/Mai/Katara). Years after the war, Katara comes to stay at the Fire Nation as an ambassador. Zuko (who is now engaged to Mai) is thrilled because he and Katara have remained close over the years. Mai is more apprehensive. She knows Zuko loves her but she’s thought for a while now that he and Katara are a bit too close for her comfort. However, Mai begins to grow closer to Katara as well, and eventually, develops feelings of her own. She panics at first. Here she was being jealous of Zuko and Katara’s friendship and now she has developed feelings for someone other than her fiancé. Eventually, she comes clean to Zuko about how she’s feeling. To her surprise, Zuko is relieved, because he has similar feelings for Katara. The rest of the fic is Zuko and Mai both awkwardly trying to find a way to ask Katara to be their third.

What I would have changed about how canon handled them if I could: I wish we had gotten at least a little buildup and tension before they got together? That was always one of the things that held me back from shipping them in the past.

idea for you:

zuko and katara are in a relationship and zuko starts getting increasingly weird in the bedroom, so katara goes to mai for help dealing with him. mai teaches her how to 'handle' zuko and they end up having a threesome (ball busting? ya into that girlie?) in which zuko gets one hell of a punishment.

it ends with katara and mai deciding zuko is a loser and dating each other instead. they keep zuko around as a sex slave tho

Also yes I'm totallyyy into ball busting, as long as it's extreme enough. I'm talking kicked between the legs until he's pissing blood (because if he enjoys it at all it defeats the purpose tbh)

ships i like with this character:

Z U T A R A: my main ship for katara! their relationship development was so compelling and realistic (i.e. not just taking words at face value, but actually putting effort into actions to show the other person that you're remorseful.) i love how it is handled with such respect for katara's autonomy and her feelings. how not once is katara guilt-tripped or given excuses. how they were there for each other in their most critical moments and provided non-judgmental support. how they trust each other with their literal lives and were willing to die for each other. how katara trusts and believes in his goodness with such conviction, that she ultimately wins him the throne. i'm gonna cut it off here before i go into zk brainrot lol.

jintara: i like this ship because i think her and katara have a lot of similarities wrt their personalities. i also really like them as an ot3 with zuko (jinkotara) because they both canonically love tea, so why not throw in their tea-serving bf? also i see both of their loves languages as physical touch, so i can see them having fun teasing zuko, and doing gestures like jin did when she ruffled his hair.

maitara: i like the contrast of this ship. katara is openly warm and affectionate, whereas mai is a bit more reserved. in a post-war setting, i could see katara encouraging mai to be more assertive and expressive, kind of challenging the things she learned growing up. and i think mai would remind katara to take time to actually relax and have fun. i also like maikotara, but not in a fully romantic way. more like.... mai is katara's gf and zuko is katara's bf. and maiko are ... just friends that are here for the vibe, you know?

harutara: ok their sunset convo was kinda romantic ... or was it just me? i love how katara even tho he doesn't know her, is able to inspire him to push back against the "no earth bending" rule (even if it backfired because of that snitching old man.) katara is really humble and she doesn't really take credit for all that she does. i love haru's line "it wasn't the coal, it was you, katara." i thought it was cute when he asked katara to come back with them. and then, the next time haru sees the gaang, he again talks about how katara inspired him. i love a good ship where the boy is in complete awe of the girl.

jiangtara: gay people.

yuetara: the moon/ocean imagery just does it for me. i love the spiciness and potential drama of katara realizing that she likes girls when she falls for her brother's girlfriend. and the angst of her feeling that lost love once yue becomes the moon, having never told her how she felt (for obvious reasons.)

azutara: honestly, two pretty girlfriends. dassit.

Rank these Katara ships: Zutara, Azutara, Jetara, Harutara, Kataang, Katoph, Yuetara, Maitara, Sukitara

1. Zutara: Obviously lol. I genuinely think they are so perfect for each other. I’ve been screaming about zk since I was 12 and won’t stop)

2. Yuetara: The idea of Yue, being a princess engaged to someone she doesn’t want, falling in love with Katara, someone whose main goal is fighting the patriarchy, is so appealing to me. Plus the pretty ocean/moon imagery.

3. Maitara: I think they would vibe well. I especially like this ship in a Maikotara kinda deal where Zuko and his lesbian best friend Mai are dating the same girl.

4. Azutara: An enemies to lovers ship that has potential to be super messy, which everyone knows I love lol. But as far as messy f/f ships go, I probably prefer Maizula. Their history makes them more interesting to me.

5. Sukitara: I wish we had gotten more scenes between them. This ship is also kind of hard to get fully into because I love Sukka so much. But the potential is there!

6. Harutara: I remember thinking they’d be cute when I was a kid. I think I’d be into this ship if Haru was more developed.

7. Jetara: I don’t really ship it on its own but I like Jetkotara (mostly bc Jetko ranks high on my list of Zuko ships…possibly #2 behind Zutara)

8. Katoph: I get why people like it but I truly do see them as sisters. Besides, Katara tends to be motherly towards Toph and that’s one of the reasons I don’t like Kataang. So shipping it would be a bit hypocritical on my part lol
