hu tao thought she had seen it all.

however, when mora- zhongli arrives to work with you secured firmly to his back, arms looped around his shoulders and legs tucked between his arms, she does a double take. sure, she's been working a lot recently, but she's gotten enough sleep. she's definitely not seeing an imaginary sight, especially not when you turn to wave at her excitedly.

you, the florist who makes flower arrangements for the funeral parlor's services, being carried piggyback by the funeral consultant who is definitely-not-rex-lapis. the complete lack of shame on zhongli's face has hu tao baffled before she realizes that you definitely have picked up on the fact that zhongli is an easy target to tease. the difference between you and her, however? you already have zhongli wrapped around your finger.

the director stands up from her desk and walks over to the two of you. you pat zhongli's shoulder twice in a rapid succession and he crouches down, allowing you to hop off his shoulders.

"good morning, hu tao," zhongli greets politely and you wave at her once more.

"oh, hi! i wanted to discuss floral arrangements with you, so i had zhongli bring me here!" you chirp and zhongli nods beside you, affirming your words. hu tao looks between the two of you, trying not to laugh in utter confusion. is this a prank? is she the one being pranked for once? she's almost scared to ask.

"i will see you at lunch, darling," zhongli says to you, before placing a chaste kiss to your cheek. "however, i must get started with work."

"alright, bye, sweetheart!" you giggle before your lover turns and walks into his office, leaving you with hu tao, who immediately bursts into raucous laughter the second the funeral consultant closes the door to his office. you feel your face flush with warmth and you instinctively smile as well, trying not to join in on the laughter.

"shh, shh," you chide, trying to quiet her down. "i've gotten him to think that it's normal to carry me around piggyback and it's amazing. but uh, we should actually probably talk about the flowers!"

"of course," hu tao replies as her laughter dies down. "but i'm never letting that go."

"i didn't expect you to," you laugh as she ushers you into her office.

you fall against the ground once more, yet before you can sit up, the blade of the dummy polearm is thrust in your face once more. like usual, you gently guide it away from your face as an acknowledgement of defeat before sitting up with a huff. amber eyes look down at you with amusement as the polearm is quickly rescinded and a hand is outstretched to you. you take the hand and stand up.

"you are becoming stronger," zhongli praises, yet his words do not soothe the wound of being beaten by him in sparring again.

"i have yet to win," you grumble and zhongli leans in to place a chaste kiss to your cheek.

"my love, i have been fighting for a few thousand more years than you," he gently reminds you, yet you can't help but be slightly annoyed about it anyways.

"whatever," you grumble petulantly. "can i have another kiss?"

zhongli laughs and the deep rumble permeates through the air between you.

"of course, darling," he murmurs before leaning in again once more.

scaramouche: the elusive neighbor

scaramouche is the ideal neighbor. he minds his own business. he stays quiet. he will alert you of suspicious neighborhood activity but otherwise keep to himself.

however, this also means he’s a tough egg to crack when it comes to getting to know him

it isn’t until you quite literally bump into him in the hallway that the two of you actually interact beyond small conversation. even in his gruff nature, scaramouche can tell you’re having a bad day.

out of the kindness in his heart that is most definitely there (and not because he finds you cute), he offers for you to come over to his apartment and relax with a cup of tea

this becomes a ritual for the two of you. if you keep up with the gossip about the rest of the neighbors, scaramouche will eagerly listen. he doesn’t talk to others much, but loves to know about their drama.

he’s far nicer to you than he is to most other people. you don’t even realize people perceive scara as mean until you talk abt him to some of your other neighbors.

zhongli: single dad neighbor

you meet zhongli not long after you move in. you learn three things about him. one: he is obscenely hot. two: he has two daughters, ganyu and hu tao. three: he looks perpetually tired.

obviously, you want to worm your way into hot dude’s life, so you do the best thing you can think of: offer to watch his kids. ganyu is the sweet older sister, while hu tao is the mischievous younger sister looking for trouble.

however, the two of them are generally good kids and you don’t mind watching them on occasions zhongli has to work late. they’ll come over to your apartment and the three of you will make dinner together.

of course, the girls can’t get enough of you which means they put in a good word about you to zhongli. a lot. frequently. it’s almost as if they’re interested in setting the two of you up.

in order to get his own children off his back, zhongli invites you to dinner and is pleasantly surprised to see how well you interact with his children but also with how well you interact with him.

his heartbeat speeds up a bit whenever he sees you in the hallways or drops his daughters off at your place... oh no... is this a crush? isn’t he too old for this type of thing?

for all of the time he has spent in liyue, from the way he's shifted its mountains to the way he's guided its people, zhongli loves liyue. which is why, of course, he is startled when the one he falls in love with is anything but liyue. a free spirit from a distant country, you arrive in zhongli's life with the grace of a drunkard at the local taverns, yet you enrapture his attention like the finest of story-tellers. selfishly, zhongli offers to be your tour guide as you become situated in liyue.

zhongli still isn't quite sure what drew him to you, but like an ancient ruin guard, your presence stirs the butterflies in his stomach back to life. with you, zhongli is no longer morax or rex lapis, but he also isn't zhongli. he is not his gnosis nor the false vision that rests on his outfit. he is not human, nor is he an adeptus, nor is he an archon.

instead, he just is.

the ex-archon crafts a xiao lantern for you as you watch excitedly, eyes gleaming in awe as he puts the familiar sight together. zhongli is no stranger to the way the lanterns will soon blot out the darkness of the night as they rise over liyue, but your expression is infused with childlike wonder as you hastily scribble down a wish to place in the lantern. out of respect, he turns away from your writing until you neatly fold up the parchment and tuck it in the folds of the lantern.

"all done," you chirp and zhongli turns to you with a soft smile. but, rather than having slipped the wish into the lantern, you had folded it into a heart and now hold it out in front of zhongli. "for you!"

"... for me?" zhongli asks slowly, confused.

"with you, i already have everything i've wished for, so this lantern can be yours if you have another wish!" you say enthusiastically. your words are genuine and zhongli feels his heart constrict and heat rise to his face at the pure earnestness of your words.

you look at zhongli as if he holds the world in his palm. maybe once, as the lord of geo, he did. but now, he reaches out to hold your hand and realizes that he would much rather have the weight of your palm against his.

I had this 𝘄𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝗳𝘂𝗹 angst scenario where you’re a minor god/goddess and Rex Lapis/Zhongli’s lover. It’s during the time frame of when he y’know 𝘄𝗶𝗽𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗼𝘂𝘁 and he sees your body moving, and believing you’re an enemy he missed, sends his pole arm through you and doesn’t realize until you release a gut wrenching scream of pain as the pole arm had put a clean shot through your stomach. As he turns he realized it was his lover and ran over, regret forming in his eyes as he picked up your dying and bloody body, not caring about how messy his clothing was getting. He pulled you close as you placed your hand on his cheek and with tears in your eyes, you told him you loved him before taking your final, shaky breath. With that came tears flooding from his eyes and a pain he hadn’t felt before as he broke down in loud sobs.

Taking it to the current timeline of Genshin, he meets someone and wishes to court them but can’t. He hasn’t and cannot picture courting someone besides you even though you’ve been gone for a very long time. When he discussed you to Traveler(Aether or Lumine, whichever you wish) he had a rare, bittersweet smile before Traveler told him you would want him to find love and comfort in another person who can bring him a new found joy like you did.

while zhongli cared for his people as rex lapis, living away from huamnity for such a long period has distanced him from typical courting methods. as such, zhongli has no idea as to how to truly establish a relationship, so when you and zhongli start getting more serious, he places a stack of papers before you, along with a pen encrusted with the highest quality of cor lapis. upon an initial once over, it seems awfully akin to a marriage contract and yet..?

"zhongli, what... is this?" you ask, tilting your head as you glance up at him. for once, zhongli looks rather embarrassed.

omg the comparing hand sizes with diluc reminds me of this one pick up line/pick up trick/pick up strategy ???? where you hold hands with the person on a flat surface so it kind of looks like a bridge/barricade kinda like this ??? im so bad at explaining things but basically you tell the other person they need to find a way to cross the other side of your joint hands without going over, around, or breaking the contact.

im just thinking about doing that with diluc and him spending hours trying to figure it out and you just beg him to give up. eventually you get tired and tell him the real reason you wanted to do the challenge and go: ‘luc. the whole game is literally impossible. i just wanted to hold your hand [cue my smart yet dumbass boyfriend always somehow ruins my pickup lines struggle noises]

i feel like this works with albedo too except he actually somehow finds a way to crack it. childe flirts with you the entire time so the ‘twist’ of revealing that you just wanted to hold his hand doesn’t really come as a surprise.

zhongli would probably laugh and say that, surprisingly, he's never heard of that prank before despite how long he's lived! and he would move to hold your hand in a more proper handholding method ;;;

diluc WOULD agonize over it too... like he just wants to figure out your game so bad, he doesn't want to disappoint you ;;; then he gets all embarrassed when you finally reveal the "solution" but just holds onto your hand tighter. his heart feels all fluttery at the idea of you wanting to hold hands with him despite the fact that you're, y'know, dating... he's just a dork.

diluc has a soft spot for animals such as his hawk, its canon in my heart

he’s definitely the type of guy to be like “i don’t want a pet” and then you get him a dog and they go everywhere together. he’s definitely a dog person in my eyes. diluc enjoys their carefree happiness.

meanwhile kaeya is a cat person. will 100% try to use a big fluffy white cat instead of the fur pelt he usually wears and hopes that jean doesn’t notice how he snuck his cat into the office. probably buys the expensive treats that are lowkey nicer than ppl food for them.

childe is a dog person through and through. if you get him a dog, it better be a big dog because childe isn’t really the type for little toy dogs. he will walk around w a puppy in one of those chest harnesses made for babies. the dog is his son/daughter and you shall address them as such.

zhongli is a cat person. he likes their subtle mischievous nature without being too nosy, plus it’s nice to hear someone slinking into the room when it’s late at night and he’s up working on paperwork. he’d probably adopt a cat with amber eyes that match his, just for fun. as for what he names the cat... rex is cute, right?

🥡 - (modern au) you’re spending a night in together! what do you do?

childe likes to spend the night in with the two of you cooking together. ever the perfect househusband (minus his penchant for bloodshed), childe will lead the way on some elaborate dish you've probably never heard of, yet it comes out tasting amazing. he'll get really bashful and shy if you compliment his cooking abilities. afterwards, the two of you go to sit on the couch n watch a movie, but childe ends up whacking you with one of the throw pillows. before you can even turn on the tv, war erupts in the form of a pillow fight, which results in multiple destroyed throw pillows and a promise from childe to buy new ones.

zhongli is one of more calm tastes. he'll make dinner with you, but it's nothing extravagant, then he'll spend time however you wanna spend it. if it's watching a movie, he'll put an arm around your shoulder and hope that you snuggle into him. if you do that, he's almost guaranteed to fall asleep 5 minutes into the movie. he doesn't mean to fall asleep on you it's just... you're so warm and the couch is so comfortable...

🍭 - what type of sweets are their favorite?

peepaw DEFINITELY has hard caramels on him at all times. first off, they match his color scheme. secondly, they match his energy. while he might not have mora (specifically to mess with childe), he might offer you a nice hard caramel in these trying times. he always makes sure to pack a few extra before conveniently "forgetting" his wallet whenever he goes out to drinks with childe. childe begrudgingly accepts the caramels as payment.

zhongli would get his partner glaze lilies. if considering flowers that exist outside the genshin universe, zhongli would get you sunflowers. they're unique compared to most flowers, yet still remain beautiful. their color is striking and zhongli can't help but be reminded of you and your bright smile whenever he sees them.
