Kyle: I’d do anything for you. I’d alter history. I’d rewrite the very laws of the multiverse.
Mairi: Please be a little bit nicer to Mighty Mike.
Kyle: No.

bad archvillain post
by far my worst archvillain au is the one where for whatever reason, kyle has got it into his head that mike is a furry. and so he continuously kinkshames him for it, but in like, a really indirect way. like they’ll see zootopia together, and mike will be like “oh that was a good movie!” and kyle will be like “i bet it was. i bet it was.”
so it turns out that mike isn’t a furry, but he’s fictionkin with superman. and kyle finds out that he’s kin with lex luthor, and mike’s like, “oh yeah i’m kin with superman.” and kyle’s like “in addition to being a furry?” and mike’s like “i’m not a furry, dude.” and kyle is shell-shocked. he’s like “why didn’t you tell me about half of this a year ago?” and mike’s like “well dude you don’t talk about that stuff in real life. that’s embarrassing.” and kyle fumes forever. but they’re happy together being kin i guess.
mairi knew the whole time and didn’t tell kyle because she’s chaotic neutral.

let’s be real though, if jack and kyle dated, jack and mairi would probably have to interact a lot. and even though mairi doesn’t know jack is the mad mask, i get the feeling that she’d know on a subconscious level that something is wrong with him. so mairi would constantly be like “kyle no offense but your bf is creepy and has bad vibes” and kyle would have to reply every time “no he’s not he’s just a regular guy. also i let you keep mike so you have to let me keep jack.” and meanwhile jack is fighting demons trying not to start monologuing in third person because he promised kyle he’d be normal with mairi.

in an archvillain/(un)edited crossover, mike grayson and mike matthews are waxing philosophical about the nature of love in the universe, phil’s teaching mairi how to stage fight to prepare her for the next bullshit superheroic event, and george and kyle are underage drinking while they both shit-talk the military

Job headcanons:
Kyle becomes a mechanical and textile engineer, aided by his superbrain. He founds a startup specializing in wearable technology that is extremely efficient but very dorky-looking.
Mairi becomes a history professor, after getting her PhD. She settles in at a state college, content to do research on diasporic Gaelic communities in western America.
Mike stays a superhero, subsisting off of donations, grant money, and the occasional conditioner ad.
The Mad Mask gets a boring office job, where the only thing keeping him sane is the knowledge that at any time, he can call the Villains Club to raze the building to the ground.

what i love about the epilogue is that it's such a good contrast between the main four's appearances and their actual selves. kyle is seen as evil and destructive, but gives up his life to save someone who hates him. mike is seen as a competent hero, but isn't able to save anyone in the end. mairi is seen as helpless and innocent, but takes agency by dooming someone that trusts her. and the mad mask is seen as detached and self-obsessed, but kills someone that he cares about because he can't fathom being abandoned. poetry.

so basically, here's how i would write the events of the epilogue:
a twelve-year-old kyle travels into the future, to ask his future self how he can save mairi and be a hero at the same time
his future self is nowhere to be seen. instead, a washed-up mighty mike lives with erasmus and the rest of kyle's tech
kyle asks where his future self is, mike says that he's dead
erasmus shows kyle a recording of his future death at the hands of the villains club
kyle learns the date, time, and cause of his death, but not the reason
he asks mike if he was able to save mairi, mike gets uncomfortable but eventually says yes
kyle resolves to let the timeline play out the way it does in order to keep mairi safe, travels back to his own time
flash forward twenty years.
a thirty-two year old kyle is a part of the villains club, but secretly researches how to create mike and send him back in time
he's dating jack, but doesn't fully trust him because of how he treated mairi during the ultitron incident. jack doesn't understand why kyle is holding him at arm's length
kyle reaches a point where he can't continue his research without being discovered, and makes arrangements to go into hiding
he calls mike to a bar to explain what he's doing and to say goodbye
mike, who's going through a bad divorce and is disillusioned with superheroism, wants to come with kyle. kyle tries to dissuade him, having seen how much of a wreck mike becomes in the future, but ultimately gives in so the timeline remains stable
the pair move to a suburb, masquerading as a married couple, and live off of mike's money. kyle has a garage lab, and mike takes care of the house. only mairi and kyle's parents know where they are
although kyle is initially frustrated with mike's presence, he grows to appreciate his help and to genuinely like him as a person. the two rebound with each other
kyle holds him at arm's length, like he did to jack, because he doesn't want to hurt him more than he has to when he dies. he comes very close to telling mike the truth, but holds back. mike is frustrated because he knows kyle's hiding something from him
after nine months of mike's embryo developing, the big day finally arrives
kyle is preparing for his death when mike turns on the news. it's a story about his ex-wife– and his daughter. mike disappeared before he could find out that his ex was pregnant
kyle asks if he's okay, but mike cheerfully dismisses him. he says that he never chose to have a kid, he never chose to be a superhero, and that never made a choice of his own until they ran off together. he says that he'll always choose kyle, because he loves him. kyle wonders aloud why mike had to tell him that today, but when mike questions this, he says it's nothing and that mike should go out to think
through all of this, the villains club has been searching for kyle. jack is heartbroken that he's been abandoned, and walter uses that anger to push him back into the violent mad mask persona
as a last-ditch resort, jack calls mairi and tells her the truth about kyle, connecting with her through their shared pain. he tells her that kyle went rogue from the villains club because he's planning on erasing mighty mike from the timeline, which could destroy their universe, and that they want to talk him down. shocked and hurt, mairi tells him kyle's address
the villains club arrives at kyle's house and break in. jack finds his old wooden mask and puts it on
kyle fights them, beating the giggler over the head with a picture frame and shattering jack's mask, but is shot by jack
he sends jack and walter back in time along with mighty mike, and dies
mike returns back to the house to find the mess
he calls for help, and re-exposes himself to the public
the media vilifies kyle camden, but mike stays stern that he's a good person
mairi attempts to reach out to mike to apologize, but is angrily rebuffed
erasmus is the only one keeping mike company, although he spends most of his time sleeping
mike becomes isolated and bitter because he blames himself for not being able to stop kyle's death. he ignores his daughter and all reconciliation attempts by mairi and a repenting giggler
twelve year old kyle comes to visit him
mike tells him the date, time, and cause of his death, but cannot bring himself to tell him that mairi betrays him
kyle disappears back to his own time, only to come back soon after with the older version of jack from yesterday again
broken from torture, jack also blames himself for what happened
kyle makes mike promise to take care of jack before going back to his own time
although they both resent each other, they begin the process of healing together. jack convinces mike to talk to mairi again, and the three are there to support mike's daughter as she becomes the world's new superhero

the best part of kyle camden's character is his complete lack of self awareness. mairi says "mighty mike is really lonely because his superpowers isolate him" and kyle has a flash of sympathy for the guy but instead of progressing to "hey my superpowers isolate me too," he just jumps straight to "how dare mairi not know i'm the blue freak"

me deciding that the “if kyle becomes a hero, mairi dies” rule also works in reverse with absolutely no canon or word of god support:

mairi and mike had their first kiss together and it was so awkward that they literally didn’t speak to each other for a week after. kyle had to intercede eventually and say, “look, you know how i feel about mike. but this? this is somehow weirder than your friendship. i cannot STAND this energy. go make up, goddamn.”
