I’ve been thinking about my Maedros Lives!AU for bit, especially the part where Elrond finds him wandering around (maybe during the late-Second, early-Third Age??). I imagine Maedros has isolated himself from others, much like Maglor, except he goes around killing stray Orcs and other baddies, and he’s become quite wild after being on his own for so long.

Right now, I just have the general idea, but it goes like this: Elrond comes across Maedros and tries to get through to him; Maedros is wary and hesitant to come near, but he recognizes Elrond (cuz blobson). Angst potential though -- Elrond thinks Maedros doesn’t know him anymore, but he’s still determined to bring him back to Rivendell.

Then both are attacked by Orcs and Elrond is injured somehow (maybe he takes a blow meant for Maedros?). He falls and drops his sword; Maedros thinks he’s dead and snaps, going into a feral rage, and takes up Elrond’s sword (since I imagine his own has gotten quite worn, or he’s made weapons out of different materials over the years). He slaughters all the Orcs, but Elrond wakes up in time to calm him down. Maedros refuses to let him go after that (cuz blobson).

The first painting originally wasn’t part of this batch, but I ended up fitting it in as a sort of flashback Maedros might have. Like, maybe he’s mixing up the past and present, seeing a younger Elrond with the current’s bloody wound, and all his guilt relating to the twins comes up where he thinks he failed to keep them safe (and is therefore responsible for Elrond’s injury).

The second painting is meant as a transition of sorts, where Maedros finally realizes it’s his Blobrond all grown up, and that he’s lost him again. Angst babyyy!

As for Maedros’ appearance, I wanted to make him thinner and disheveled since he’s been in survival mode for a long while. It was a bit tricky since I’m so used to drawing him with a bulky form loll

A design thing i did for my version of Maedhros i guess! 

I wanted to do a Valinor + post Angband look because I imagine Maedhros being a lot more open and looking more free-spirited before his time in Angband, then becoming more closed off, and I wanted that to show in his design. Also having a more lighter/friendlier looking colour scheme, versus a more darker one. 

Also headcanon wise, I imagine he originally wielded a greatsword crafted by Feanor. Of course, given a greatsword is a two handed weapon, he couldn’t wield it after losing a hand. As a result, Curufin crafted him a sword that is lighter and can be used by one hand, and I kinda imagine the two training with it and figuring how best Maedhros can fight with it. 

Probably have other thoughts on this, but I can’t think of them right now.
