ok um i am going to vent on something as someone with an outside perspective and people are going to be normal about that right. okay lol. im sick of hearing about taylor swift <3 as compared to a few years ago even she is like... suffocating. and i feel like we never advance this conversation because on one hand we have people who swing into full misogyny when talking about her, and on the other we have people who won't admit that she blatantly uses feminism to deflect from her problematic behaviors, or at least they won't like, do anything about it, and in this way she sort of ends up misleading a lot of young girls into like. girlboss liberal white feminism. im not saying shes a supervillain for it but you can't deny the ramifications of what she does and doesn't speak up about, just given the absolutely massive platform she has. she is the biggest pop star in the world

for the record, i don't expect taylor to be like. a normal person. she was very famous from a very young age and people aren't normal about teen/adolescent stars, especially when they're girls and women. she had her personal drama aired out in front of the world, had so much misogynistic dialogue surrounding her, from demeaning her success to interrogating her dating life (and never holding the pedos who preyed on her at a young age to any sort of standard!) and for many years people weren't very critical of that. it was normalized to be trashing this young girl's name and saying vile shit about her to like the entire nation and i dont blame her for being like, a little off after that. and yeah i also don’t think we should look to celebrities as our end all be all of activism and opinions on sociopolitical issues

but we've gone full swing into like. she is so famous and so big that her actions can be harmful and she does these things anyway because she doesn't expect her fanbase to hold her accountable, lest they be acting like the very sexists who tried to ruin her career. at least i imagine that's what the thought process is like, at least at some level, but at this point it's just like. this woman makes so much money. so much money it's ridiculous. idk how y'all fathomed paying so much for concert tickets but like i'll give props that they at least seemed to have some insane production/theatrics... so like alright. there's that.

but she is reselling the same songs. sometimes that don't sound that good. and making more money off that. yes yes to 'officially own them' and whatever. and releasing vault tracks and other versions of albums with different songs on them. but never all the same bc u need to collect them all. and the thing is some of them are like kinda bad. but you listen to them anyway because we live in a time of overconsumption/consumerism in late capitalism and it's like trendy and fun to be able to tell what song of hers is playing in the first millisecond. sorry or just your personal attachment to her. and don't say it's embarrassing to be a taylor swift fan these days she's like. so huge. and some of you equate embarrassment with having to hear criticism toward her. which might not be as common if swifties idk stepped it up and actually expected something from her?

which i guess is getting me to my main point here. can you imagine like. what would happen if taylor swift actually said anything about palestine? or anything of value in the world right now? no one's asking her to be a fucking scholar on it but genuinely sorry there’s like a genocide. several. the most documented real time genocide of our time i don’t care if it makes you upset that people expect something from her. she is time's person of the year. she has everyone from young girls to lesbians to gay men to bored football wives to dads to well fucking etc you get the point tuned in. she has dabbled in so many different spaces done so many collaborations aligned herself with so many entities who can keep up? if she, as massive as she is right now, posted something as simple as 'free palestine' or called for a ceasefire, can you imagine what would happen? i can’t help but think about it when day in and day out my feed is filled with screaming people being pulled from rubble or having their limbs amputated.

but she won't, because, quite frankly, what does she have to gain from it? she’s teaming up with the nfl right now to make some more money, she's gotta have at least like 4 new albums recorded in the last two years and at least um what three more that you're expecting? and she doesn't even have to like? write new music really? (edit: oh boy!) why the fuck would she be doing anything with her time other than poisoning the planet with jet fuel to visit her pr boyfriend?

taylor swift is never gonna be punk or what the hell ever beyond like a white liberal-at-best moderate woman. but if any of you could talk to each other and talk about, like, organizing in ways that it would be impossible for her to continue to ignore these situations, and just keep playing her tour FILM (how could i forget) in israel and etc, like if you could flood her socials or do a mass movement (and it would be massive given the sheer amount of peoples' top artists she's in) of not listening/buying/interacting with her stuff, until her agents and whatever had to make some sort of statement? like that's the only chance we've got with her

i'm not saying don’t be her fan, or listen to her music, or have an attachment, etc, but she's been around enough vile, anti-feminist, racist things this past year that y'all DO need to hold her accountable. like way more than you do. or it's going to be like really difficult to. tolerate it. haha. like you SHOULD be vocally and loudly disapproving of her actions when it causes a lot of damage overall. speaking up about her insane climate irresponsibility when we're having the hottest years on record is not the same as the people who felt the need to like pick apart her dating life on the news. but can we talk about how she's officially like. circled back and now is purposefully making news about her dating life? for her personal gain and that of the fucking nfl? lol. in a way it is funny for her to ‘take that power back’ in a way, of her image, and i think that’s how some people might view it, but like on the other hand she obviously is gaining a lot from this. you know. a lot of actual money. she is going to profit off this image of her being misunderstood etc for as long as u guys allow it and well i just think that has run its course. yk

continuing into 2024 (edit: and now with the release of a new album!) i don't want to see swifties automatically exonerating themselves from difficult conversations because like they feel like their fave has faced enough unwarranted criticism. or bc other people should also be criticized. much of it is warranted! and you guys need to grow up and be able to talk about it and stop painting taylor swift's face as like the Pinnacle of feminism. she doesn't and shouldn't have to be, and she isn't, and she should in fact be held accountable when she does really fucking shitty things on account of they're shitty! i don't care that she's a woman! it's like that meme of oh yay a woman democrat sent these missiles. oh yay a woman is massively damaging the planet and proudly dated a violent misogynistic racist, and faced minimum criticism for these things over and over because your only comeback is ‘well what about’ if a man did the same thing, etc, you refuse to just look at the situation we do have. yes we should. we should do that we should hold men accountable but you can also like not accept awful fucking behavior from your faves when you have a chance. do you think that’s helping feminism genuinely. use your voice use your power (your money) to like. do something for once. i cannot keep living in the taylor swift echo chamber.

and for the record. i like enjoyed taylor like back when i was a young girl and she had a few songs on the radio, and i honestly even had a moment where i used guys' opinions on her as a first step to navigate who i felt safe around in a very hypermasculine sexist college space. because yes. some people do need feminism 101 and some people's genuinely misogynistic rage will be demonstrated in their hatred of taylor and her success. but at some point we gotta move on from that. if some people will look at the most powerful woman in the world, who has enough money to stay away from them and an extremely massive loyal fanbase watching and supporting her every move - if some men take out their hatred on her, a powerful white woman, how do you think they view and treat women who are not white, thin, "conventionally"/eurocentrically attractive, or accessible to cis/het audiences?

anyway i hope that i can bring a conversation to the swiftieverse cause i honestly believe u guys could have comparable impact to like. bts stans. maybe. if you put your minds together for a good cause. and we don’t have to do the oppression olympics or whataboutisms or WHATEVER for forever. can we please move the conversation forward does anyone else feel insane with like where we’re at

on that note, i really do think now is the perfect moment for you to disrupt shit with your voices and demand better from her. it might not save the world, but it could make a huge difference in changing peoples' minds

(Genshin Impact) Yelan with a Yor-esque S/O

No one requested this, I just got this flash of inspiration thinking of who to write for next. It occurred to me that Yelan is a spy, and I've been watching Spy X Family. Thank you Spy X Family for introducing the best woman this year.

Post Edit A/N: I swear to god everytime I write a new one of these, production time gets longer. 5 BLOODY HOURS

Yelan was used to talking to all sorts of people to stay undercover.

Woo a Nobleman here, do business with a merchant there. All kinds of people Yelan worked with ranging from a pleasure to work with to glad to never see them again.

But it was during one mission that she encountered the strangest person she had ever met.

Little did she know that they'd be her partner in crime for the years to come.

And that their feelings for each other would begin to grow into something more.

Yelan was in the marketplace of Liyue Harbor, searching for a merchant named Jin. He was wanted for money laundering by reselling high value items for traders in order to scam foreign merchants.

He was small-time really, compared to some others that Yelan has brought to justice. There were much worse people, but his crimes could not go ignored and officials couldn't touch him.

Which is where Yelan comes in, it was her mission to get close to the target and bring him down. The only problem is that she didn't have a direct way to get to him, seeing how he never did his business in person, always by proxy.

While thinking of how to get to him, someone bumped directly into her.

(???) "Wagh?!"

Yelan was slighty pushed back while the person that bumped into her fell onto the ground, dropping rather expensive looking items.

(???) "O-Oh no! No, no, no!"

Yelan took a moment to examine the person. They were dressed somewhat formally and looked something like a secretary. Regardless, they didn't seem like a threat and that this was a genuine accident.

She dropped to one knee and began helping them, grabbing a collection of pearl necklaces and giving it to them.

(Yelan) "Sorry about that. Please, allow me to help."

(???) "T-Thank you! And if anything, I should be apologizing, I didn't see you. Oh, the boss is going to kill me!"

Yelan looked closely at what she was grabbing. They all were gaudy looking accessories.

(Yelan) "Nothing is broken, is it?"

(???) "One, two, three...Nothing's even scratched, thank the Archons! Thank you for the help, miss...?"

(Yelan) "Sabrina. Fontaine Adventurer."

(???) "My name is (Y/N). Say, if you're an adventurer, do you know the way to the marketplace?"

Yelan refused the urge to blink in confusion. If they had any iota of common sense, they could see that they were already in it. Clearly they were a fish out of water...Wait a moment-

(Yelan) "You're actually in it right now."

(Y/N) "Huh? ...Oh, you're right! And, do you know the way to Jin's Emporium? I'm supposed to be delivering these accessories there."

Perfect.

(Yelan) "I do. Here, follow me."

Yelan led the way down towards the port. As they walked together, Yelan put her silver tongue to work.

(Yelan) "If you don't mind me asking, what are you doing in Liyue?"

(Y/N) "I work for a merchant from Mondstadt, mister Emil! He was trying to find a trade partner in Liyue to sell our wares, and we found a buyer named Jin!"

(Yelan) Hm. So this is how Jin snares his targets. So, what happens to the people carrying the goods? "I see. Will you be staying long?"

(Y/N) "Not too long, no. Truth is, this is my last job for mister Emil. I'm retiring from the trading business to help my brother."

(Yelan) "Well, I hope that you and your brother get paid well from this job. Ah, there's your shop. Down by the pier, second to last by that boat."

(Y/N) "Ah, thank you so much miss Sabrina!"

They bowed, almost dropping the items again. Yelan caught one just in time, letting out a small chuckle and sending them on their way.

As soon as they got far enough, Yelan's smile quickly faded and blended into the crowd, making her way towards the stall.

Sure enough, Jin was nowhere to be seen. Instead, it was another man who looked remarkably unremarkable.

Yelan couldn't hear them, but she could infer what they were saying. The man was pointing at the trail that led out of Liyue and deeper into the mountains, (Y/N) nodding.

(Y/N) walked out the stall with a cart now, carrying all her goods and going out of Liyue.

Yelan kept her eye on them as she slowly trailed them out. The merchant didn't follow (Y/N). She had a feeling of where this was going.

After about twenty minutes of tailing (Y/N), she finally found out why they were sent so far away.

A group of Treasure Hoarders popped out of hiding, and rushed the cart with their weapons drawn.

Yelan's eyes glowed a dark blue as she drew her bow, leaping into action herself.

Yelan landed in front of the cart scaring the Treasure Hoarders, but surprisingly, not (Y/N).

(Yelan) "You don't wanna do that, boys."

(Treasure Hoarder) "Get the hell out of here, this doesn't concern you!-"

(Y/N) "Miss Sabrina, DODGE!"

Yelan didn't see anyone behind her, in fact, she knew no one was there. What did they mean by that?-

(Y/N)'s eyes suddenly narrowed as they kicked the cart with one leg, sending it hurtling towards her-

Oh Archons.

Yelan dove out the way as the cart flew with such violent speed, running over two of the hoarders.

The hoarder directly on their left raised their shovel to attack, Yelan shooting it out of their hand with her bow.

As they reached for their hand in pain, (Y/N) leapt over to them with a graceful frontflip, following up by a very swift and violent kick to the crotch.

Yelan swore she heard something crunch, and couldn't help but wince. For their sake, she hoped that their privates didn't just get reduced to a liquid.

Using her ropes to drag in a Treasure Hoarder by the feet, she yanked them by the collar and spoke calmly to them.

(Yelan) "Who hired you?"

(Treasure Hoarder) "I-I DON'T KNOW! IT WAS JUST SOME MERCHANT WHO GAVE US MORA!"

His eyes kept darting behind her, which obviously signaled someone was trying to ambush her.

Yelan was prepared to deal with them before she heard another man collapse to the floor.

(Y/N's Voice) "Taken care of, Miss Sabrina!"

Their peppy voice betrayed the absolute brutality and efficiency of their attacks, but Yelan focused back on the matter at hand.

(Yelan) "Where is this merchant?"

(Treasure Hoarder) "T-That way! Up the hill in the abandoned manor!"

Yelan knocked them out and let their head hit the ground, turning around to face (Y/N).

(Y/N) looked concerned, more for Yelan's well being than anything, even their own.

Though obviously, they didn't need Yelan's help to protect themselves.

(Yelan) "That was some fancy moves."

(Y/N) "O-Oh, that? That's just some basic self defense I taught myself!"

Although they were stuttering, it didn't seem like a lie. They were more embarrassed than anything.

Yelan's met a lot of interesting people in her line of work, and right now, (Y/N) was moving quickly up the list.

(Y/N) "By the way, were you following me?"

Yelan walked over to the cart to make sure the goods were intact. Miracoulsly they were, the cart on the other hand now had (Y/N)'s footprint firmly planted inside it.

That's not something an ordinary secretary could do.

(Yelan) "I actually saw you leaving town, and I intended to catch up and ask what you were up to before you were jumped by Treasure Hoarders. I thought you were delivering your goods to the merchant?"

(Y/N) "The man told me to deliver the goods up this hill, but clearly something isn't adding up..."

Yelan walked up to (Y/N).

(Yelan) "You should get back to Liyue. I'll make sure you get the money you need."

(Y/N) "But what about you?"

(Yelan) "Don't worry, adventurers are prepared for this thing all the time-"

(Y/N) "I-I'm coming too! I may just be a secretary, but I'll make sure nothing hurts you!"

Obviously, they were lying. No normal secretary could solo a group of bandits at a moment's notice as if they were nothing.

But, maybe for this mission's completion it wouldn't hurt to have them tag along. As far as they knew, she was just a kind adventurer.

(Yelan) "...Alright then, let's stay close."

A half hour passed as (Y/N) carried the goods towards the manor. Yelan stayed behind so it looked like they were alone. As far as she could see, there we no guards.

Makes sense, they didn't think a secretary could fight off a group of bandits.

The plan was to have (Y/N) walk in and lure them out so Yelan could ambush them, and hopefully they could take Jin down in one fell swoop.

Although she was far away, Yelan could tell (Y/N)'s demeanor instantly changed.

They left the cart outside and gave a thumbs up in a random direction before slipping away behind a wall faster than she could keep up with.

A few minutes passed by and nothing happened.

Yelan frowned. Did (Y/N) get caught in trouble?

Or worse...was she with them the entire time?

It wasn't completely out the question. They seemed completely unfazed by the Hoarders and were surprised by her appearance.

(Yelan) "Hm, maybe I should-"

WHAM!

Yelan saw Jin go flying out a window, the glass pieces shooting off everywhere.

Her eyes went wide as he ran away, tripping over himself as he kept looking back in terror.

Then suddenly the door was kicked open, revealing (Y/N) covered head to toe in blood.

(Y/N) shouted something that she couldn't understand as they chucked a barrel at him, hitting Jin over the head and knocking him out cold.

(Yelan) "Archons, good thing I told them I needed him alive."

She stepped down cautiously and looked at (Y/N), drenched in blood as they panted.

Though from what she could see, it wasn't theirs.

Looking slightly behind (Y/N), Yelan could see the bandits inside all on the floor.

(Yelan) "What...happened in there?"

(Y/N) "O-Oh, they tried attacking me but I made them hit each other."

(Yelan) "And the blood...?"

(Y/N) "Blood?"

Y/N looked down at themselves before stuttering even more.

(Y/N) "OH! UM...! I-I just got caught in the splash zone is all! Hahaha...ha...?"

Judging by how embarrassed they seem to be, they weren't lying out of malice.

Yelan had three guesses of what they were. Either they were an assassin, a Fatui agent, or an idiot.

Honestly, she didn't know what would be better, because it's looking to be all three.

(Y/N) "A-Anyways, what do we do now?"

(Yelan) "For now, we bring this man to justice for trying to scam you, and no doubt countless others."

Yelan and (Y/N) returned to Liyue Harbor, but not before she forced them to wash themselves.

Her entire goal is to keep low, having someone head to toe dripping in blood would do the opposite.

After turning them into the Millelith, Yelan accompanied S/O as they got their final job accomplished, alongside a bonus pay, and left the services of the Mondstadt merchant.

Deciding to go out for dinner, Yelan brought (Y/N) to Xiangling's restaurant for celebration.

After receiving their meals and thanking the chef, Yelan and (Y/N) proceeded to have a pleasant evening together.

(Yelan) "So, what will you do now? You don't have a place to stay, right?"

(Y/N) "Hm...No. With the money I've earned, I don't think I'll be able to return to my brother just yet..."

They looked conflicted on what to do.

(Y/N) "...Truth be told, I'm not sure what I could do. That job was the only thing I could reliably earn money with but, I'm not even that good at being a secretary."

(Yelan) "..."

(Y/N) "The only belongings I have are just the clothes on my back and hairpins."

Yelan looked curiously at their hair. There was no such hairpins they mentioned...Does that mean?-

(Y/N) "But nevertheless, I appreciate your kindness. I will never forget what you have done for me, miss Sabrina! I promise to make it up to you!"

(Y/N) prepared to give her some Mora before Yelan held up a hand.

(Yelan) "You know, you seemed to handle yourself well back there, despite being just a secretary. If you want, I could get some line of work for you."

(Y/N) "Like...an adventurer?"

(Yelan) "Yeah, something like that."

Yelan planned to tell them the truth, but obviously not in public. Whatever (Y/N) was, she wasn't going to let their skills go to waste at a mediocre delivery position.

(Yelan) "And you can stay at my place, at least for a little bit. What do you say?"

And that, Yelan wasn't planning on telling her. It was actually one of many safehouses, but it was very secure and more importantly, closely watched.

If (Y/N) was someone who was a danger to Liyue, Yelan would be the first to know from her contact's close watching.

(Y/N) "T-Truly?!"

(Yelan) "Truly."

(Y/N) "I-I..."

They began sniffling, rubbing their eyes as their voice grew shaky.

(Y/N) "No one but my brother has shown me such kindness before...! T-THANK YOU MISS SABRINA!"

Yelan was immediately pulled into a hug which immediately put her on edge.

She hadn't felt physical affection and years and-...Wow, this was a really tight hug.

Yelan opened her mouth to speak before realizing no sound was coming out.

In fact, there wasn't any air coming out either.

(Yelan) "A....ACK!"

Yelan felt her spine tighten in (Y/N)'s death grip. Were they trying to kill her?!

(Y/N) "THANK YOU! THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!"

...Well, at least they weren't trying to kill her on purpose.

Finally, Yelan managed to get the words out.

(Yelan) "AIR!"

(Y/N) "...OH MY GOODNESS!"

(Y/N) dropped her on the spot, Yelan trying to catch her breath.

(Yelan) "O-Ow...! D-Don't think I've come that close to death in a while..."

(Y/N) "I am so sorry! I-I never knew how to control my hugs. One time I accidentally broke my brother rib's when giving him a hug..."

(Yelan) Okay, what is wrong with them?!

(Xiangling's voice) "Oh, Yelan! Is this your date?"

(Y/N) spun around with a loud "EH?!", stuttering profusely.

Before they could say anything, Yelan spoke up.

(Yelan) "Y-Yes. They are. I was just wanting to take them out to celebrate getting a new job! Our compliments to the chef, by the way."

(Xiangling) "Congratulations, and thank you! I hope to see you two soon!"

When Xiangling left, Yelan was quick to explain herself.

(Yelan) "Sorry about that, I just want to make sure no one's picking on you since you're new to Liyue."

(Y/N) "Ah, I-I see. So we're going to be in a pretend relationship?"

(Yelan) "That's right."

This seemed to have calmed down (Y/N) quite a bit. She would have came up with a better lie, but honestly, she didn't think she'd need one.

Which she was proven right.

(Y/N) "Alright, that makes sense. Thank you so much for your kindness...By the way, did she just call you Yelan?"

(Yelan) "That's my last name."

(Y/N) "Sabrina Yelan? That's a pretty name!"

(Yelan) Oh my gods, I can't believe they fell for that. "If you don't mind, could you just call me Yelan from now on?"

(Y/N) "Of course...I-If I may ask, where is your home?"

Yelan looked into (Y/N)'s eyes.

You could tell what a person was truly thinking by the look in their eyes, and Yelan had become very talented at telling what they were feeling.

With one glance, Yelan could see...

...They completely believed her.

In fact it looked like there was barely anything going up in that head of theirs.

Well, if taking (Y/N) under her wing was going to be anything, it certainly wasn't going to be boring.

(Yelan) "Right this way. And (Y/N)? Welcome to Liyue."

Yelan had no idea the hurricane of a person she brought in as a partner.

Despite their outstanding combat prowess, they were completely lacking in everything else.

(Y/N) "I made us breakfast!"

(Yelan) "Ah, thanks."

Yelan took one bite before her eyes shot wide open.

(Y/N) looked at her with an expectant gaze, Yelan could see the lights shining in their eyes.

(Y/N) "Well?"

(Yelan) "Dice roll, whoever loses has to...eat this."

(Y/N) "O-Oh..."

Within this world we love we’re just like nuts in a mixed bag, packed tightly And everyone has a partner they love who they snuggle tight, now everything feels alright!

No common sense in the slightest, and of course their first result when tracking down a target is murder.

(Y/N) "Would it not be easier to punch out the skulls of his henchmen to make him talk?"

(Yelan) "It might make him talk, but we need to keep a low profile. Besides, no one can do that."

(Y/N) "It's not that hard."

(Yelan) "...Have...have you punched someone's skull out?"

(Y/N) "A-AH! I read it in a book once is all!"

(Yelan) "..."

We look into each other’s eyes and smile like we’re peanuts, so brightly But honestly the truth is obvious, this whole display is just a lie

Trying to act as a couple was also demanding. It gave her a great cover story, since (Y/N) could provide a testimony when she had to leave.

(Y/N) could also make Yelan seem less suspicious if they told the stories right.

But that usually required (Y/N) to be a good liar.

Which they were also not.

(Woman) "So, why did you come out of the house covered in blood?!"

(Y/N) "Oh, that? I just work myself to the bone!"

(Yelan) *facepalm*

What you see is only a template, golden standard to all those passing by, but it’s deeper than they know

Honestly, they were a huge mess of a person.

And yet...

Yelan came home one day to their shared home to find (Y/N) with a cookbook in front of them.

They didn't even seem to realize she was there.

Instead of saying anything, Yelan watched as they tried hard to make an edible dinner.

(Yelan) "...How about that."

(Y/N) "GAH! INTRUDER!"

A frying pan came flying past Yelan's head that went straight through the wall.

(Yelan) "..."

(Y/N) "O-Oh...welcome home?"

Feelings never shown, even when we’re all alone, no one but each other Hands on the table, but we’re just putting on a show

They were trying to be a genuinely good boyfriend/girlfriend.

Obvious homicidal tendencies and startling lack of common sense aside, they were genuinely a kind person.

Constantly choking back our secrets, lying abound; but it’s my home, you know Now we can try to fill our stomachs inside, with a great home-cooked meal, or something plain from outside

Yelan woke up to a blanket on them that wasn't there before, only to see (Y/N) in their own bed without one.

Smiling, she put it back on them as she began to fully wake up from her nap.

Despite it being an act, they were giving it their all.

Now nothing is assured, and everything changes in this life, and I know Now every day’s so mediocre, boring and plain, passing by But really I don’t even mind, ‘cause you are by my side

After a long solo mission, Yelan opened the doors with a loud sigh, energy completely drained.

Instead of the home being completely dark, she was greeted with a warm smile, with an even warmer greeting.

(Y/N) "Welcome back! I was just making a spicy dinner for your return!"

Yelan couldn't help but smile.

(Y/N) noticed this and went about their business. For the past year, they've known her to always do that when she had nothing to do, besides nap anyways.

(Y/N) "I'll make sure dinner's ready by the time you get back."

(Yelan) "Not what I'm rolling for today."

(Y/N) "H-Huh?"

(Yelan) "This is for 'couple' stuff. We need to look the part, right? It's a bit strange that our neighbors only see us do this once a month. They might get suspicious."

(Y/N) "We're just adventurers, Yelan. i'm not sure what could be so suspicious."

Yelan just smiled and rolled the die.

Landing on a six, she turned to them.

(Yelan) "Alright, surprise me. Your choice of what we get to do today."

Yelan and (Y/N) walked through the marketplace, trying out all sorts of food.

She denied any sweets, but treated herself to the spiciest things they could find.

Yelan decided to let (Y/N) try one, only for them to rush around the stalls frantically trying to find water.

(Y/N) "HOT! S-SO HOT!"

It was a bit strange for Yelan to walk around this casually. But she couldn't complain, the dice chose this. Beats doing nothing, anyway.

(Yelan) "I was gonna say because I got to watch it with someone but...heh, sure. That's a good reason too."

But they backed away last second. Even though this was a fake relationship, they probably shouldn't overstep their boundaries.

Hearing Yelan chuckle, her hand wrapped around theirs.

As (Y/N)'s words got caught up in their throat, Yelan just put a single finger to her own lips and winked.

Calming down mostly, the two walked back to their home, looking convincingly like a real couple.

AI *F*ART

------------------------------ Note: Please do not harass, intimidate, threaten or doxx the person being discussed here. Names and genders have been censored for this reason. No disagreement is worth hurting someone over. ------------------------------

I was typing out this as a reply to a specific person with some dubious takes. But I think it applies to everyone. So I’m gonna rework this and make it a tiny bit more general.

This all comes from someone who got upset by a post that was being critical about AI technology. They were clapping back at anyone clowning on tech-bros in the comments.

I admit that I was on the clowning side of things. And my points were more for comedic value, and not to make any solid arguments. But after getting replies from this person citing some flaws in my logic, I decided to play ball and listen to their side.

My main question I had for them was: “What are the benefits of using an AI to generate a base picture instead of having a human artist do all the work?”

Their response was:

1. It's thousands of times faster. 2. It's far higher quality than most artists are capable of producing. Even with the occasional fucked up hands that need to be edited.

Let’s cover the first one.

This person uses indie game devs as the base for their argument.

People tend to have a limited amount of time on their hands. And making a bunch of art from-scratch takes up a LOT of that time.

In all this time, a person will need to pay for food and shelter. So they’ll either need to have a lot of money, or will need to save up to be able to dedicate their time to the project.

Now, I also wanna add the option of working on the project in the background for as long as needed. Though, this method also has its own costs/benefits. The main drawback would be the MUCH longer time it would take to complete.

There’s also the option to bring other people on board. That said, everyone would have to operate under the expectation that no one is being compensated for their work unless a successful product is made. Everyone would have to be really passionate about the vision of the project for a scenario like this to work.

For an indie, I can see how using AI would be tempting.

However, what isn’t being accounted for is the original artists whose art was loaded into these AI models.

Their art represents decades of personal practice. Skills honed by passionate people that wanted to bring their visions to life. This is why work like theirs tends to be compensated for. Or at the very least, credited.

In a good number of cases, artists don’t want their finished work to be fed into an AI model.

With current AI ethics, original artists are usually not credited or compensated. And the images generated from these AI models get used for all manner of projects that the original artist didn’t consent to.

In cases described above, the indie devs would be effectively stealing the artists’ work, mashing it up a bunch, and reselling it to their customers. All without getting consent. And the artists would receive no financial compensation or credit for their work.

So if I’m interpreting this right, this person values the speed and efficiency of indie development over properly crediting and paying the artists that made these AI tools possible to begin with.

And this person, according to their own words, believes that giving artists the ability to use the tools counts as compensation. They believe artists should start using AI and stop complaining. “[Adapt to the times]”, more-or-less.

I don’t subscribe to ANY of the mentality here. To me, It’s basically a person demanding others do what they say. All because they wanna have a fun little toy that allows them to get away with not paying or crediting people.

Now, how ‘bout the second point.

I want to point out that art quality is a subjective thing. “High quality” boils down to people’s individual interpretations.

In my opinion, a lot of the AI images I’ve seen are extremely similar in color composition, have very repetitive layouts, and most contain plenty of the telltale flaws of AI generation (weird hands, text, plants, architecture, etc.).

AI images lack any kind of specific flavor that makes human-made art unique. With an art piece made by a person, you get stuff like unique lineart, quality shading, distinctive color palettes, dynamic poses, noteworthy or relevant emotions on faces. All-in-all, a more personal art piece. And a chance to work with a pretty cool person.

So to me, I don’t consider quality to be a solid reason to use AI-generated images. If anything, the opposite is true, and your quality is significantly hurt from using these tools.

As long as legal statutes aren’t set, no one can stop a person from using AI to generate assets for projects. However, using them is ethically dubious. It showcases the lack of quality and effort a person wants to put into their work. And it really reveals how a person ACTUALLY feels about what they’re selling.

Another point made had to do with open-source software.

This person noted how much open-source software has helped people. They stated that artists are being selfish for not allowing their work to be used when programmers have been contributing their code for free.

The difference is that when a programmer starts coding around someone's open-source code, there's an express knowledge that they're making something under an open-source license.

When a base set of code is made under an open-source license, it's dictated that other people can take that code and trade it around and modify it in whatever ways they want, as long as they ALSO operate under a similar or exact open-source license. It’s also usually required to link back to the original source.

Now, if an artist really wanted to, there’s nothing stopping them from creating art exclusively to feed it into AI models. Heck, someone could get a community of artists together with the goal of drawing art for the sole purpose of feeding it into AI. Everyone in that group could properly consent, and accept the terms of this kind of agreement.

Problem is, most AI initiatives aren’t set up like that. They collect art from all over the internet, generate new pictures out of them, and assume that the original artists will be cool with it. It’s actively taking the choice away from people. And stripping their names out in the process.

Open-source software has a reasonable setup that facilitates sharing and modifying for free. The legal groundwork for AI images do not. And until some proper ethics and legalese are put in place, AI image models will continue to hold a reputation for undercutting and undermining artists.

This person offered up a bunch of other options for artists to consider instead of only focusing on commissions. Stuff like:

Making a game and using their art as assets for it. Using an engine like Ren'Py, which is open-source.

This implies that artists are gonna wanna make games in the first place. Making games and making art are two different things. They have overlapping parts, but the interests are not the same.

Also, it’s not as simple as that. You still need to learn how to use a game engine. While it’s easier than starting from scratch, not everyone’s a whizz at coding and programming.

It would take time to learn. An artist can’t just swap skill sets at the drop of a hat. And they might spend all this time learning this new skill (one that isn’t even a passion of theirs) to end up having poor sales and failing in their new endeavors.

Learn to 3D model. AI can’t do that yet. And won’t for probably a decade. And if it does learn, then learn how to rig your models for VR games like VRChat.

Once again, there’s overlapping interests. But 3D modeling is not a simple skill to learn, and a lot of 2D artistic skills don’t translate over to 3D.

As someone who has made his own 3D model from scratch, I can tell you that it is NOT simple. And there’s mountains of tools and functions that you’re gonna need to learn to make 3D modeling a viable skill to profit off of.

And, wait. If AI learns to 3D model, this person’s next suggestion is to learn to rig models for VR?

Realistically, what’s stopping programmers from setting up the AI to automatically rig models? I know of a bunch of plugins for Blender that already exist that do that sort of thing. A tiny bit of human correction, and auto-rigging can be pretty easy.

So in summation: This person wants 2D artists to toss out a perfectly valuable skill they spent years perfecting, let an AI do it, and learn other artistic skills that they might not like, or aren’t adept for. All to make a bunch of non-artists happy? People who show little to no respect for the skill it takes to make art happen?

And the really delicious irony about all of this? They’re suggesting that artists should go learn new skills to survive new AI technologies, when THIS PERSON could practice what they preach and go learn new techniques that could improve their ability to draw.

Brush up on some skills that help with quality. Pick up tricks that improve output speed. Work on mastering the ability to draw EXACTLY the thing envisioned in your head.

The best part of doing it that way: you’re not screwing over a bunch of innocent people just to make a picture of an anime babe.

You mention struggling with incontinence. Have you talked to a doctor just to rule out potential underlaying conditions? I understand how you feel about being super shy because I am super shy myself.

Once you ruled out any potential underlaying causes, if you want to wear adult diapers, there are an incredible selection of great products to consider, depending on what you are looking for in absorbency level, plain white or printed ones, and of course, budget.

Plain white: Northshore MegaMax, AM PM Forsite, NRU Str8up, Incontrol, ABU Simple are in my top suggestions. Abri-Form M4 (Medium) or L4 (Large) are affordable and remains a good classic, one generation behind the newest ones with better absorbency and refastenable tape zone.

If you prefer cloth-like diapers, they let the skin breathe more, but many brands have the same issue with the tendency for diapers and tapes to stretch out and make the diaper become loose and more exposed to leaks.

If you are looking for the RollsRoyce for absorbency, I suggest the Trest Elite diapers. They are the world’s most absorbing diapers without any booster pads or stuffers added. They are expensive, but they are lasting much longer, which means using half of the amount of diapers. At the end, they end up being less expensive than most brand. My only advice would be to always add baby powder in those, and not wear them for longer than 12h when wet because it gets hard in the skin, and it’s better to change frequently and keep a healthy skin with proper hygiene.

If you want printed diapers, all the ABU diapers are very good. Most Rearz ones too, NappiesRus (NRU), Northshore Megamax have cool colours too. Forsite is more affordable, but not easy to get in USA as I heard. My favourite ones might not be other’s favourites. But I personally love the Megamax, Rearz Safari and Alpaca, ABU PeekAbu, NRU str8up blue and lil rascals.

If you are looking for pharmacy diapers, they are not necessarily the cheapest due to the monopoly of Tena on the shelves, offering thin diapers that will suit persons with mild incontinence. Tena is offering much better products in Europe and Oceania than what we find here in North America. Pharmacy brands are generally not the latest generation of diapers. They are handy in case of emergency, far from the best. Tena Super is what seems to be their best, cloth-backed only. The Tena Maxi slip are much better, and they are generally not available in the pharmacies in North America, but they can be ordered online at some incontinence supplies stores.

I suggest that you order directly from companies instead of distributors and resellers for better price.

Today, the market of incontinence supplies and ABDL diapers is blooming! There are so many good diapers, I can’t mention all of them here.

I hope my advices will help you choose the right product that you will like, and will suit you well. At first, I would suggest that you buy samples to compare the fit and comfort because there are some differences from one brand to another.

Entitlement of the Rich

Recently the whole RPG community has been shaken by a very convincing leak concerning neat year’s upcoming new edition of Dungeons & Dragons. The leak is a draft of updated Open Gaming License, that details which parts of the 3rd and 5th editions of the system could be used by other publishers, free of charge. This OGL is used to allow 3rd party publishers like Kobold Press, MCDM, Green Ronin or the Dungeon Dudes to publish their own content using the form of d&d rules. While the game mechanics cannot be copyrighted, this OGL allows other publishers to use terminology and reference things like classes or monsters from official WotC products. Most prominently, it has been used by Paizo to develop both of their big games - Pathfinder and Starfinder - that make them currently second biggest company on the market and Wizard’s biggest competitor.

The leaked version of OGL 1.1 contains language that would do a lot of potentially extremely damaging things. It talks about “authorised” version of OGL, which could potentially be used to bypass perpetural, irrevocaible nature of OGL. Theoritically, by declaring previous versions “unathorized”, WotC force everyone using it to switch to OGL 1.1. Worst case scenario it could even affect unrelated games, liek Traveller and FATE Core, that designed their own OGLs by basically coping WotC’s OGL.

Moreover, the language used in OGL 1.1 also forces people using it to report their profits to WotC and pay off 25% of revenue if you made over 750 thousand on the product based on d&d, while giving the company right to redistribute and resell all products based on their license with no financial compansation or even recognition of original publisher. It also expand what is considered as licensed this way to everything deriverate of d&d, including OSR games based on older editions, like Dungeon Crawl Classic or the Whitehack.

There is a lot of debate over how legitimate this leak is. Whenever it is not a hoax. And if not, if it is actually what Hasbro and Wizards’ plan to do. Some claims in the document, like one giving WotC rights to all content based on D&D across all media, something OGL is not designed to cover, leads credibility to a theory that if it is legitimate, it is merely a first draft by executives, that no one from legal department has touched yet. Because a lot of the things it tries to do would probably get demolished in the court of law.

I subscribe to the “executives’ christmas wishlist no lawyer looked at yet” idea. Because I could see a corproate execs not realizing how such thing is bound to drive people away in huge numbers. A process we do see already happenning, with many fans declaring switch to other systems, boycott of WotC products or sailing under jolly roger, if you know what I mean. Only a big, rich guy in a suit who doesn’t actually work on anything the company is selling would act as if the company could try to backstab major part of the community and fans would stay with them for “brand loyalty”.

It does fit a certain pattern I noticed among billionairies and corporations that I do not think is talked about before. Such things as Elon Musk bitter anger when people massively leave Twitter or merely stop posting, culminating in him making it harder to delete your account but also getting it deleted if you don’t regurally log in (the conservative idea people will be converted to right if you force them to interact with fascists without ability to retaliate nonwithstanding). Or Netflix acting suddenly upset people are sharing their accounts for convenience, as if that wasn’t one of intended uses originally. Why it would cost all major contributors to global warming literally pennies to stop destorying the planet, and instead they spend much larger sums trying to discredit the whole concept of climate change.

At some point the rich forget that they’re supposed to try to get our time and money. They feel entitled to it. Once you adopt this mindset, all things click in place. Of course Elon Musk is mad people are leaving Twitter, he thinks we owe it to him to stay on his platfor. Of course Hasbro and Netflix cannot entertain the idea that people would jsut drop them, in their perspective we should be gratefull they allow us to pay for their shit. Of course polutters would rather spend more money to keep polutting than less money to stop, they think they simple deserve to not have anyone tell them how to spend.

I find this very eye-opening as a way to reframe actions of the rich capitalists. A lot of idiotic shit they do makes much more sense, once you realize they don’t do it out of just simple greed, but because they geniuelly beleive thy’re “too big to fail” and thus the world should just fold the way they demand. And it is why it’s so important to oppose them at every opportunitty. You give these fucks an inch, they’ll take your country.

Summary: During a shootout, Salem caught a stray bullet through the ankle, making his life on the run more like a life on the moderately fast limp. Anton insists he get his rest in when he can and bars him from overstrenuious activity- including taking anymore hits. About two days ago, Salem was shot right through the left ankle, by no real fault of his own… “Just one of those crazy flukes, I guess,” he had said once he and Anton had gotten away from the shootout before promptly collapsing. They had since gone off the beaten path to find a hotel to reside in, waiting for their next hit.

“What did I tell you about walking around too much?” Anton asked softly yet sternly as Salem re-entered their room. Anton had set out to get a scope of where exactly they were, so in the meantime Salem had gone down the hall to get a pop from the vending machine.

“I didn’t think you’d be back so soon and I was thirsty,” Salem limped to the bed and sat down, cracking open his can of Pepsi. “It’s not that long of a walk, Anton.”

“You have a hole through your leg and it’s not going to get better unless you lay off it.” Anton shooed Salem further up the bed, took his foot in his hand and propped it back up on a small pile of pillows at the end of the bed.

“You act like I’ve never been shot before.” Even as he said it, Salem grimaced, attempting to cover it up with a swig of his soda.

“You’re goddamn lucky you’ve never gotten badly shot.” Anton knelt beside the bed and took his partner’s free hand in his own. “I know, you like what we do, you’ve grown accustomed to living a majority of your time on the road, but can’t you just sit for a little while?? I’ve done all I can for you with what I could get my hands on, now you’ve gotta play the waiting game.”

Salem frowned as he continued to drink his Pepsi before finally setting it aside and looking down at his ankle. “When did you do all that cleanin’ and sewin’ and gauzin’ anyhow?”

“The first night we got here, when you were out cold.”

“‘Suppose that’ll do it.”

“Here,” Anton stood and strode over to the tiny television set on the dresser, picking up the remote control on his way, and turned it on. He silently considered the TV guide for a moment before changing the channel and bringing up Alien, in all the glorious, grainy quality of the 1970s. “Watch this. I’m going to take a shower.”

“Anton, you know I don’t like movies unless we’re seeing ‘em in the cinema…!” Salem groaned as he disappeared into the bathroom.

“Make do.”

Salem huffed and half-directed his attention to the TV across the room, exhaling as he leaned back against his pillows. He knew Anton was right about not putting too much strain on the wound, but the last time he had been truly cooped up like this was way back before Anton had even come into his life. Things were unfathomably dull, then.

Just as Salem felt he was about to drift off for the night, between the faint sound of Anton’s shower and the dull ache in his leg becoming background noise in his mind, the bedside telephone began to ring. Springing up in bed, Salem scrambled to pick it up.

“Anton Chigurh?”

Salem grabbed a notepad and a pen as he cradled the phone between his shoulder and his ear. “Just his business partner, who’s asking?”

“Someone who’d pay a pretty penny to find out who’s stealing his product and reselling it… tampered with. You’re not far from us, now, based on our sources. You ride into San Angelo and we’ll get you in contact with a middleman who’ll give you more information.”

“We don’t deal in vagueries, mister. Name the price up front and we’ll consider getting back to you.”

“$900,000, how’s that grab you?”

"You'll know by tomorrow." He promptly hung up and ecstatically waited for Anton to come back into the room. They didn't really do this for money- especially not Anton, who had a voracious taste for both the hunt and the eventual kill, and all the carnage that he would inevitably create in his wake, but they always appreciated cash to assure a roof over their head and food in their stomachs… the easy way.

"We got a call, Foghorn." Salem stated as Anton exited the bathroom in his jeans (he rarely wore anything "usual" to bed). He raised an eyebrow.

"You're using a nickname, you must be rather proud of yourself."

"$900,000 to go bust some drug trader's chops. Could be fun. We've gotta go to San Angelo tomorrow to get more information."

Anton thought for a moment. "I'll scope it out."

"Yes!"

"But you’re not coming."

"What?!"

"My word is final, go to bed." With that, Anton twitched off the light and slipped into the second bed. Salem opened his mouth to retaliate, but he knew Anton wouldn't respond, even if he did, and thus resorted to silent stewing as he tried to fall back asleep.

"Let me come, pleaasee!!" Salem begged as Anton went through his morning routine. He spat out his toothpaste.

"No."

"It’s an hour's drive, it won't overexert me!"

He combed his hair. "No."

"Antonn..!"

He put on his shirt. "For the last," and hoisted Salem over his shoulder as if he weighed no more than your standard bag of groceries, "goddamn time," promptly plopping him down on the bed while simultaneously minding his injured ankle, "I said no, Salem, and you're gonna sit tight here until I come back, unless you want to be in a mess of trouble with me, understood?"

His large hand traveled down their side until it came to his hip, his face inches above its as he gave its skin a flighty pinch. Salem winced and blushed.

"Understood, sir. Sorry, sir."

"That’s more like it, devil." Anton kissed him sweetly and even with all of their frustration, Salem melted, kissing him back with a smile and tousling the back of his hair.

"Well, at least be quick about it."

"I'll try. Room service will bring you breakfast in a couple of hours."

"Bye, baby."

"Bye."

We Create Everyone We Meet. Let’s Create The Best Versions Of Them.

It’s hard to believe until we experience it consciously, but every person we meet is a “ghost”. Each person is an in-the-moment creation of ours. As there is no objective reality, this should make total sense.

We each create versions of people we meet moment by moment. And each version we create reflects back to us what we think about that person. This explains why people we get to know very well remain consistently the same in our experience. We’re constantly recreating such people in the image of our dominant beliefs about them.

It also explains why sometimes we act one way in the company of one person, and totally another way around someone else. We “collapse” into expectations people have about us. That is unless our self image is strong enough to overcome their expectation.

Knowing this offers tremendous opportunity. If we’re creating versions of people we meet, through beliefs we hold about such people, that means we can create any versions of anyone we want.

Think about that.

Creating lovers

If we’re having difficulty with a partner, for example, it’s only because we’re focusing into our experience that version of them which aligns with what we’re dominantly expecting from them. If that is true, then we can change our expectations of that person and that person will change.Without us even needing to involve them in the process!

I’ve had clients dramatically change versions of ex wives and boyfriends through this process. It’s not magic. It’s how the Universe is set up. Still, becoming proficient at this takes practice. Not because it’s a new skill – we’re doing this all the time, of course – but because we’ve trained ourselves into believing we’re not doing what we’re doing. So we must first unlearn our self-imposed limitations. Only then can we experience power inherent in us. The power to ongoingly, deliberatelycreate people we meet. Including lovers.

Of course, this ability we all possess includes creating total strangers. I know this works because in experience after experience I created versions of strangers reflecting my expectation of people. I do the same with clients. My most recent experiences offer great examples of what I’m describing here.

^^Typos aside, here I share with a client why client sessions always feel so good. I create the entire experience deliberately.

Jedi mind “tricks” are real

Both experiences involve purchases I made at two different stores. In the first example, I bought a product for my bike. Two days later, I wanted to return it. I had the receipt, but not the original packaging. I knew the store likely wouldn’t refund my money without that packaging. But I also knew I create my reality, including other people.

So I stilled my mind. Then I imagined the store refunding my money. I felt, in that moment, how it would feel after the clerk returned my money. Then I went to the store.

I explained to the clerk who greeted me that I wanted to return the product. The clerk was hesitant so he called someone else. It turned out this other person was the store owner. For a split second I lost my focus on my expectation, but quickly regained it. He asked why I wanted to return it. I told him calmly, then he explained that it would be hard for them to resell the item without its original packaging.

I said nothing. Instead, I held to my vision of the store refunding my money. I could tell he was spinning his wheels thinking what to do.

^^The power of the Force is strong in all of us. Our entire reality springs from the “force” of our expectations.

Finally, he said he’d refund my money. It was an awesome demonstration and felt so easy!

The next day, the exact same thing happened with another item from a different store! I set my intention, then I went to the store. The cashier looked over the item. It had a little bit of wear on it and, even though he looked right at that, he agreed to take it back!

The impossible, possible

The same experience happens with my clients. Before when clients told me things that disappointed them about their lives, I used to focus on those specific disappointments. What I noticed over time was the more I focused on those things, clients would return the next session with even more trouble! But when I focused on seeing clients’ lives getting better, that’s just what I experienced: versions of clients whose lives got better!

Of course my clients have agency in their lives. It’s not like I’m overriding their intentions or their lives. What happens when we create better versions of people is we connect with such people’s Broader Perspective, which is always holding the best version of those people. In doing that, we kind of call forth that aspect from those people. Then those people, as cooperative components, are more susceptible to hearing impulses from that Broader Perspective guidance. Guidance which always leads them to their best lives.

I know this sounds impossible, incredible even. But as I wrote above, personal experience cannot be denied. Once you’ve had enough experiences like those I’ve enjoyed, you must agree something extraordinary, or extrasensory, is happening.

The thing is, something extrasensory IS happening. We all are gods in human form. We’re expanding our capabilities through earthly experience. Earth is not our home. It’s a sand box in which we learn how to expand our consciousnesses.

Most people don’t understand this for various reasons. That’s why most people think what I’m describing here is impossible. But it’s totally possible. Again, we do what I’m describing here all day every day. Not availing ourselves deliberate control of such abilities leaves us feeling out of control and alone.

Regaining who we are and our power

There, in loneliness and lack of control, it’s easy to blame others for what we see in the world. Long ago I experienced disconnection and lack of power. These days, though, I’ve regained what I once lost. That’s why I experience growing abilities like what I described above. It’s why I know the world I experience springs from beliefs I hold about it. About it and about the people in it. The more I do that, the more empowered I feel. Because I AM more empowered. Empowered as THE creator of my reality.

Developing abilities like these is part of regaining knowledge of who and what we really are. Extrasensory Perception or ESP, for example, is real. So is traveling outside of one’s body and creating people as we want them to be. All of these are every-moment, real experiences. Most of us aren’t aware we’re having such experiences though because we don’t believe they’re possible.

Nearly all religions allude to expanded consciousness as life’s purpose. That purpose becomes realized through stilling one’s mind. Then turning that stilled mind to focus on the life we’d prefer. Not the one our eyes show us. That process is the basis of a Positively Focused practice.

Most people haven’t tried stilling their minds. Not seriously. Nor have they done so under guidance from an expert. Many others start, but then give up. Only diligent, daily practice, usually under someone who’s gone before, yields expanded consciousness.

Once consciousness expands, extraordinary powers become available. But most people think stilling themselves isn’t worth their time. They’re too plugged into the Matrix. They complain about their lives and their world. Rather than doing the one thing that improves life: Becoming internally what they wish to see in the world.

There are exceptions though. Are you one?

I am not familiar at all with merch sales be it within the kpop community or not, but of course, I heard a lot about Doyoung's merch or related things that were sold out. It makes me wonder a lot about Dozennies. What are their average age, their professions and their schedules. Because things have been sold out quite frequently recently, I would always imagine that most Dozennies are working young adults who are probably around the same age as Do. You gotta be able to have financial means to buy these things. Most are not expensive but some are not that cheap either.

And they are always updated on Do's because they were so fast in buying all these. Sometimes, I also wonder if it's just the same people buying his products because most of these are sold online. Like I do read that some fandom do bulk orders to help the idol. Honestly, the only thing I'm concerned with with bulk ordering is what do they do with it. Resell it at a higher price? I guess better than just shoved into a corner collecting dust. I just don't have the experience of buying merch, so I don't really know the competition to get these things. My friend's an Army though and I've seen the immense struggle when buying albums (that's the closest experience I have). Is it possible that for highly competitive fandom, these purchases are kinda like gambling because you'll never know if you get to check the items out and that makes people addicted in some way? (at this point I'm just rambling but interesting tho)

And one thing I always wonder about kpop merch is that the products are more frequently released compared to other fandoms I think? Like not just companies merch, they also have collabs like sanrio, nr, etc. How do fans keep up with this constant release of merch and collab? Because I think when you become an ambassador for brands, it is to increase the sale of the brand itself. And when you pick nct as ambassadors, the market is most likely the fandom right (or no?) If it is, how can the fandom keep up with all the sales or am I underestimating fandom purchasing power? Or perhaps I overestimate the quantity of the products they plan to sell.

Idol companies don't earn with music. They earn with merch and concerts. Btw, SM is a company that produces very little merch in comparison to others.

I'm a book illustrator, but the books I illustrate have very low number of copies. From 500 to 3-5k. Maybe some had more, I don't have author copies for all and not all have the data. And publishing companies still spend from half a year to two years to prepare such a book. The trick is to put out something on the shelves all the time, to gain from the volume. K-pop groups have millions of fans. And almost all fans buy merch in one form or another. 1mln will buy an album, 200k will buy a poster, 20k will buy a mug, another 20k will buy Sanrio stickers, yet another 20k will buy a magazine.

A fan doesn't need to know and buy all merch released, I doubt it's feasable even for the most rich and crazily commited, it's enough for him/her to buy from time to time. Fanclubs help to keep up with the info and make collective orders. There are k-pop merch shops that work as middle men as well.

I'm a pretty merch resistant person, I don't like to spend money on things that collect dust, but even I fall to "I want to treat myself" and "I want to have fun". I can buy well produced merch or cheap merch. Especially if it's sparkly, haha. I don't need a plastic standie even for free, but a clear file is a product I'll take. Smart companies diversify their offer.

To sell merch companies invent different strategies and fuel the competition among fans. Fans buy merch to show off (look how rich I am, I have hundreds of lightsticks), to show dedication to their bias (look what a big fan I am, I made a shrine), to satisfy human's innate instinct to collect (idol cards, the hunt for limited editions), to support their bias (buying the endorsed stuff, taking pictures of it, posting on socmed and tagging the company), to win the race with other bands (this applies to the albums mostly).

Bulk buying. Honestly, I think the majority of the albums get into the hands of fans. There are not that many fans who can buy 100 albums to pull out cards and then drop the photoalbums in trashcan. Cases like that just make news. Fans give out the albums to non-fans (to PR their group), give for free to the fans with no money or re-sell on forums for half the price. Think about it, Sticker sold over 2mln. Jaehyun alone has more than 10mln subscribers on IG.

As for working adults. Sure, "now I grew up and can buy whatever I want" exist, but the majority of merch buyers are teenagers who get their money from their parents or from part-time work. Studying in Uni/working adults need to pay rent, buy work clothes, pay off their college loans, buy textbooks. Teens, on the other hand, need to show off before their peers, be better, have the latest toy. Nowadays the "toy" is loads of k-pop merch.

Companies like NR win from selling directly to fans and from fans advertising the brand/products on socmed. Plus the idols simply work as pretty models who know how to appeal. It's not nesessary to know who they are to be pulled in and be affected. The ads are showed on screens in cosmetic shops.

Doyoung has a lot of younger fans, at least the ones that write/call him. But I agree that he should attract more young adults than, say, Mark. His core fans like him for the voice first and foremost, for his life advice/grounded personality/emotional support secondly.
