Adventuring Health&Safety Considerations
Massive disclaimer: there are a million different things to take into consideration to keep yourself safe and healthy that are deeply personal and individual. These are basic things I find important and it is by no means an exhaustive list.
If you have worries or questions about keeping healthy on the trails, please consult a medical professional. Specific safety questions are best posed to Park Rangers or other such authorities.

Eating- balanced, tasty meals and snacks to keep you going! Food is fuel, food is fun, food is yummy, especially when your body is working hard.
Drinking- stay hydrated. No discussion. Carry enough, consider resupply places and water treatment options.
Equiptment- Adequately prepare for changeable weather, terrain and your needs. Take the right kit for where you're going. Know your equiptment, make sure it's in good shape. Your footwear is very very important. Keep it clean, dry and in one piece.
Dry out- dry out your kit. Keep your skin dry. Dry your hair. TAKE CLEAN AND DRY SOCKS. A change of the layers closest to your skin (at least) will go a long way to keeping you clean and comfy.
Cleanliness- mud is brilliant. Sand is great. Forest debris and leaf litter is excellent. But not on your person for extended amounts of time. That gets irritating. Literally. There's a reason it's called 'dirt' and your body will remind you forcefully of this unless you wipe or brush it off.
First aid- something we all probably have in common? Always covered in cuts and bruises. Keep them clean. Know basic treatments for common ailmemts. Prepare for the worst, hope for the good, enjoy the best. Supply with this in mind+extras.
Risk- small, acceptable and well-managed risks are great. Consider the things you do before you do them, including potential consequences to you AND OTHERS.
Animals- check the areas you visit. What lives here, what migrates here, what could eat or hurt you here? Prepare for meetings with your animal neighbours, you're in their neighbourhood after all.
Toilet needs- necessary consideration, I apologise. Where, how, with what, leave no trace. There are tutorials and guidelines out there.
Rest and Recuperation- take a break. Relax. Chill. Your body will thank you and be ready to go again soon. Look after your body and your body will try its best for you.
Fitness- match your fitness level to the things you're doing. Pushing too hard, too fast will hurt you. Don't do that. Slow and steady, building up in increments. You are the expert on your body and fitness looks different on everybody.
Medications- have what you need and take enough of it with you. Don't get caught short. If you find yourself on a mountain summit and need to take your meds, do it- no shame. Keep a list of the meds you take and their dosages on your person.
Communication- stay in contact. Ensure people know where you are, what you're doing and when you'll be back. Know who to call in an emergency or when you just need a bit of help. Keep your emergency contacts and information close to hand. Fully charged phone and emergency whistle. Consider phone service coverage in different places.
Navigation- know where you're headed. How to get there, how to leave, where to go for help, food, water. Note the direction and paths you're following and what landmarks you should encounter. Consider multiple means of navigation- online, offline, compass and paper. Consider what to do if you get lost.
Heed the signs and rules in the places you visit- no brainer. It doesn't need explaining. Also, stick to the paths.
Look after yourself, look out for others, go out there and explore!

It's okay to not be okay
I love how our current generation is working diligently to smash through the stigma of talking about mental health! Honestly, no one is always okay. We all go through dark times, whether we talk about it or not and you shouldn't let your mental health status decide your worth or value as a person. Some of us will never pull out of those dark times, and that's okay! We can still find those moments worth smiling for, those people worth loving who love us in return, and most importantly HELP! We can find help. There are so many new resources popping up daily to help us get through the rain. So, before I go into outfit credits, I have compiled a small list of things we can all do to help our mental health. Just always remember that you matter and you are a beautiful soul worthy of love and happiness.
Talk about your feelings. I know this is the hardest one, especially if you suffer from anxiety and always feel judged. But talking about our feelings is truly the only way to get them out and lift a bit of that weight off. If you're uncomfortable talking to someone you know, there are other options! For instance, every nation out there has a suicide hotline. You can also try journaling! This way, you are still getting it out, even if you never want anyone to read it.
Keep active. I understand that not all of us are able to get out and run every day, or hit the gym. But any sort of activity counts. Even if it's just walking the dog, or doing the dishes. Whatever you can do! Just keep doing it!
Eat well and stay hydrated. Those of us who suffer from any form of mental ailment fall on one of two sides of the eating spectrum: we either forget to eat and drink our water, or we overeat. 7: minutes meditating on how mood follows behavior. Essentially, "start, and then your brain will jump in to help." This mentality was on full display as I pushed suicidal thoughts to the side and drove around La Jolla spending too much money on chores.
17: Minutes spent doing yoga, my body is sore from what I feel is not an insane amount of activity.
Over 20: texts sent and exchanged with Nate about Halloween.
5: minutes spent sitting on the floor of the shower, happy I'm alive and tired and a little scared

Was today as flawless as yesterday? Nope! But there were some good moments. I'm proud I tried. I'm happy I love to read and can theoretically afford Whole Foods. I wore a gorgeous rose and black lace top with leather pants and boots. I didn't eat enough and I'm replenishing my hydration right now, with something called "Local Weather", pretty damn yummy, actually. Is fruit punch still a thing in adulthood?
My heart doesn't feel full or empty per se. There's just a hollowness to everything, a layer of exhaustion and restlessness. Hunger. Lack of connection. A mild headache.
But I got outside. Did some things. Breathed from my stomach. Mildly wanted to die in traffic, but still. This kind of depressive episode feels more liminal than tragic.
And I can handle it without substances. Don't even want to. I didn't call out sick from life. Side note: the Grammarly app is part of my tools, and the little tone indicator for this entry is a sad face that keeps following my writing down the page. Absurdly funny in its own way. Can only imagine if Vladamir Nabokov wrote "Lolita" like this.
Later update: ate some expensive mac and cheese and drank some more fluids and my mood skyrocketed upward. I'm not sure (pretty sure) if I was just under-fueled today but there's some cross-over between a low mood making me feel like I'm not hungry and hunger making me feel like I'm emotionally sad.
Either that or Whole Foods really is superior to the point of emotional uplift.
Or it was the aforementioned 17 minutes of yoga that I am unreasonably proud of. Kicking in 6 hours later.

The first doctor I went to who diagnosed me wrong keeps calling wanting me to schedule a follow up appointment and I’m like >.> Slightly tempted to answer and go off but I’m shy and awkward so erm that probably won’t work!
I definitely am resting a bit more! I tried to move the other day and it made it worse so I learned my lesson ;-; lazy days for awhile now.

I’m doing okay!! My work had a social function today which made a lot of the workers feel like pets being looked at from the other side of the glass but it was over soon and THEN we go to go home and hour early cuz it’s Friday.
I’m also making great progress on TWOO books!!! One is Crescent City: House of Earth and Blood and the other is a 700k(ISHHHHHH) Draco and Hermione fic I found recently. I’m not a huge HP fic reader but a lot of the BIG Dramione fics have been turned into podcasted audiobooks on Spotify, so I’ve been making my way through some at work! That’s how I read Manacled by SenLinYu (AMAZING story btw. I understand the hype) and the one I’m on right now is like a trilogy but it’s all one story line in a way (at least I think). And I’ve finished the first one called The Right Thing To Do. I’m onto the next one now which is called All The Wrong Things. And then I believe next is one called The Auction? They’re by lovesbitca8 on AO3. But again I’m listening to the audio book versions.
Aside from all that jazz I’m doing good. I went out for lunch with coworkers today! I had an apple with Swiss cheese when I got home and I’ve already had two teas so I’m kicking a lot of basic necessity ass!!
