so recently i've been working on my oc makenna's playlist. makenna has to struggle with NOT acting like a perfect child for her dead dad anymore, and has to wade through her own capacity for villainy, bad things, and that those traits aren't necessarily bad since ANYONE has capacity for them.

game of pricks by guided by voices - a lot of the people makenna knows before she meets lavender are mean and they treat her like shit. but she has to realize her own part in allowing them to do that to her.

denise by fountains of waybe - makenna realizes she loves her best friend, ellie, but that nothing will likely come from it because ellie is only performatively gay and only has long term relationships with men.

dead boy by bleached - makenna realizes her love for lavender, because he's the only person who's treated her somewhat decently even after she's fought back against situations where he was an ass hat.

not if you were the last junkie on earth by the dandy warhols - makenna realizes she has a platonic crush on lavender, but realizes also that she will never love him the way he loves her.

message in a bottle by the police - makenna tries to reason with, and understand, mordecai's intentions for committing atrocities like almost killing his own kind.

miss alissa by eagles of death metal - she basically realizes that eve is the most bad bitch alive and kind of falls in love with her, but by this point eve is already head over heels for dr. thoreaux for some reason.

ok so that ask game got me thinking and I went to see if Makenna could dig up her concept art for the Derra And Dae Cause Problems On Purpose AU. Turns out she did the art AFTER I came up with the AU, not before. Memory fails yet again XD

And not only did she find the art, she reminded me of even more of the AU that i'd forgotten about! That's under the cut. and will probably make some of the art make more sense. 😂

Stuff I'd forgotten:

Derra's Sith Master was a Cathar OC i'd made and I came up with a very emotional scene just before the girls got put into stasis of Derra saying good-bye to her master, illustrated above. (thanks kenna!)

Daesha loves to hurl shakespeare-esque insults at her enemies.

Derra gets into existential debates/philosophical yelling matches with Ezra's Sith holocron post-Malachor.

The Unrequited Love Squardrangle

(allow me to explain)

The Unrequited Love Squardrangle was what makenna started calling the interpersonal relationships between the four teenagers on the Ghost in Seasons 1-2. Because Daesha is extremely pretty and Derra is ridiculously buff and Sabine is, well, Sabine, and poor ezra is Having Multiple Problems Right Now. Which turns into a running gag sort of thing in the background, in that Sabine, Derra, and Dae all have different plans on how this should end.

Daesha is trying to be a supportive sister to Derra--by playing matchmaker with her and Ezra. She just thinks the whole thing would be poetic, ok?? Sith + Jedi?? (Daesha is a hopeless romantic.) Derra is NOT a hopeless romantic and is also very not interested in Ezra, which Sabine knows. Sabine decides that if she can set up Dae and Ezra, then they can finally have peace and quiet. Derra agrees to help Sabine with her plan, then immediately starts plotting against her to invoke the Matchmaker Crush trope. Because, Unsithly-Sith that she is, Derra thrives off chaos and drama, and what is more chaotic and dramatic than teenage jealousy?

By season 3, the matchmaking has mostly died out. mostly. i mean we all saw s3e7 and believe me derra saw it too ahem. scuse me. don't know where that came from.

Dae loves romance novels. She says up really late reading them. She also stays up late talking with Sabine, which is a pain in Derra's sithly butt because she's an early riser and they all share a room. Dae has a hammock.

After Vader showed up and started following Daesha around in hopes of learning The Secrets Of The Jedi, Derra made a sign that said "It has been __ days since Vader's last dark side moment."

The number has never gotten above the single digits.

Redemption is a slow process.

summer reading/writing/arting tag

1) Describe one creative WIP you plan on working on over the summer.

Ahhh, trying to narrow down to one work in progress is agonizing but luckily for me I technically don't have to do that! hehe.

My current work in progress, I would then say, are fics focusing on Oblivion (and maybe a few Skyrim!) NPCs that I like or found interesting (or both). The fics are probably not going to be 'connected' themselves but they're all a blast so I'm having fun! Currently picking at several, each involving a different character. Right now those poor souls would be the Jemane brothers, Volanaro (with a side of J'skar), Aurelinwae (with a side of Calindil), and Julienne Fanis (with a side of Raminus-- is this joke getting old yet?).

2) Recommend a book!

I haven't read an actual book in a while but I'm gonna go with something I read in my childhood-- The Goblin Wood, by Hilari Bell.

Makenna is, as far as protagonists go, vengeful. And from what I recall-- resourcefully clever right from the beginning. I remember delighting in watching how she'd go through the book's events; and it's not always that the protagonist captivates me so.

The books are now a trilogy from what I remember but I'd still recommend reading just the first book regardless. Not because I think the other two are bad but because I feel like the first stands on its own fine. (And if you like the first one then you can see about the other two yourself! Huzzah! ^u^)

3) Recommend a fic! 

I wanna recommend Lost and Found, not only because it focuses on Falion as a character but because it features the father-daughter team of Falion and Agni becoming a team!

Who wouldn't love warm fuzzies like that? (Also it doesn't need massive amounts of Elder Scrolls lore knowledge but if you DO know what Falion studies or what he's talking about, it's even better for it.)

4) Recommend music!

House of Sacred Remains from Castlevania: Lament of Innocence. (The extended version because if you're like me 3 minutes isn't enough.)

Really though, a lot of the music from that game is stellar. I kind of miss playing Lament of Innocence to be honest. It's the only other Castlevania game I've played, besides Symphony of the Night.

5) Share one piece of advice!

Learn to love yourself. And I don't mean in a jokey or insincere/cold way-- I mean genuinely, with my whole heart and chest. Love yourself. I know sometimes it's hard to for a myriad of reasons, I do get it, but if you can manage to cultivate that inner appreciation for who you are without needing other people to prop you up... you can learn to let go of the past and look forward to who you will be in the future.

It was something I had to learn myself and the way I learned isn't going to be the way you learn, perhaps, but in an age where airbrushing and other celebrity-related media percolates culture I feel it's even more important to remind others that they're not just an empty sum of their faults and flaws.

People make mistakes and people change, that's just going to be people from here till the end of time. You're a person, you're going to make mistakes. And that's perfectly okay.

So please, love yourself.
