BONUS DRAWINGS FROM THE MAKINA PROLOGUE
Here’s all the extra little things I made that I’m very proud of. ^0^
Tumblr media
This is a textless version of the final panel. You can finally see how freakishly long Makina’s tongue is lol. Also Nathan is trying not to smile here. In my mind this is a photo Makina would have on their vanity table.
Tumblr media
Here we have Makina and Young Nathan, this took me a while because I this was my first time doing Nathan’s side profile as well as Makina’s.
Tumblr media
This sketch was originally going to be the final panel instead of the group photo. Makina was going to have the trophy in her hand, lifting it like an Oscar or a Grammy.
Tumblr media
Speaking of the trophy, here’s a full sketch of that! Doom-opolis was partially inspired by Lala-palooza and Eurovision song competition. It’s an outdoor festival that’s televised / live streamed everywhere. It’s a big international event, I mean it’s Dethklok of course it’s going to be big. X3
Tumblr media
Finally this is Makina’s backpack. Of course she’s a big Dethklok fan, so she has the button on her bag. The cat patch is a tiny nod to my Jojo’s work but also, a separate 3 eye’d demon cat character called “NekoDevi”. It’s the sort of a Metalocalypse spin on a “Sanrio” type of mascot, with elements of cute horror like Skelanimals, Gloomy Bear, and Maromi from Paranoia Agent.

Makina’s Thoughts on Shinagawa Division
Tumblr media
Ritsuko Okada
Makina quickly swiped the photograph off the table. “Nope. Big ‘nope’.”
Miho Kobayashi
“Not to be rude, but I really don’t give a shit what’s going on with the big leagues. I don’t know who she is…? I mean, Shian filled me in but I kinda got bored after hearing her go on. She seems like an evil prick. A gorgeous prick. But still a prick. There, I said it.”
Sumire Shinomiya
“Huh… there’s not a whole lot of people in the running this DRB who are the same age as me… I game with her from time to time. She just brings trouble everywhere she goes… she’s supposed to be super intelligent and whatever, but she’s impulsive— the amount of times she made the team lose whenever we’re grouped together… and that’s coming from me: Miss Anger Management Issues. She’s a ton of fun though, I keep joining games when I see she’s online. It’s like a toxic relationship, catch my drift?”
CodeX
“I’d be lying if I said this group doesn’t make me nervous… I don’t know ‘em too well and I’m sure they’re beyond capable… They look like a pain in the ass to deal with. I hope another team knocks them out so we don’t have to deal with them. But if not… bring it on, then. It’ll only make Pixel Syndicate look better when we take them down.”

Note
The cloudy blue skies of Edogawa slowly turned to darkness as night fell.
Kaoru Shinozaki, upon seeing the notification on her computer that there was a small package just outside, made her way to the front door.
Surely enough, there was a small cardboard box sitting on her doorstep. On the side was the sticker with Kaoru’s address. It didn’t take long for her to realize it was a present that someone had ordered online and sent to her address.
Curious but no longer surprised, she brought the present into her home.
Excited, she lifted the lid off the and found a rectangular machine.
Tumblr media
Shortly, a storm of indigo glitter spewed in every direction from the machine, landing all over the table, the floor, even on Kaoru herself.
Kaoru spat, watching the purple glitter fly out of her mouth, absolutely dumbfounded.
Her phone chimed and she pulled her phone out of her pocket and read the text that was just sent to her.
‘Happy Birthday, you old hag’
‘Didn’t take me long to find out it was you that hijacked my birthday stream a few weeks ago, so here’s payback. There’s cameras hidden in this thing and I gotta say, that expression you made just now is gonna forever be a personal favorite’
‘Oh btw, I’m not that mean. Your actual present’s inside the box’
Kaoru carefully peered into the box and found a palm-sized white box and with all the caution in the world, took a look inside.
Tumblr media
It was a trio of enamel pins in the shape of Ancient Greek icons: Athena’s owl, the Caduceus, and the Hippocampus.
"Makina….you little…." Kaoru seethed, already making plans to get the streamer back. Kaoru was brought out of her frankly villainous scheming as she heard footsteps approaching.
"Kaoru…." Yuriko paused, taking in the scene in front of her. Glitter was everywhere in the living room. From the floor to the furniture and all over Kaoru. Yuriko could feel her eyebrow twitching. Kaoru felt a shiver run down her spine as the temperature of the room dropped several degrees.
"Kaoru…clean this mess up or else."
"Okay, but this wasn't even my fault-"
"Now."
Kaoru immediately shut her mouth, knowing Yuriko was not in the mood. Not wanting to see the state of her living room anymore, Yuriko turned around, leaving Kaoru alone in the glittery mess.
"Goddamn it, Makina. I'm in so much trouble because of you."
Thank you for the gift!

Tainted Eve Prologue ~ Sayo's Story
(DBL is a game with mature themes, so reader beware. Sayo does go through abuse from members of the church, so please do not read if that will negatively affect you.)
“Eve….Awaken.”
“Annoying…” Sayo sighed.
“What was that?!” one of the nuns snapped, slapping her hand down on the table in front of her.
“Nothing,” Sayo forced a smile. “I’ve finished work for the day. That is all you needed me for, right?”
The nun narrowed her eyes at Sayo, but let it go. “You’re free to go. Make sure you aren’t late to school or I’ll hear about it from your father.”
“Never been late before.”
The nun swung her arm in a flash, the back of her hand slapping Sayo’s cheek.
“Obnoxious child!” the nun exclaimed before stomping away.
That wasn’t unexpected. She was aware her words probably wouldn’t sit well with the particular woman in front of her. Everything she did never sat well with any of the nuns working at the church her ‘parents’ were in charge of.
Sayori Makina was adopted. Kizuna and Ayumi Makina had only taken her in because they were paid handsomely to do so. And the person who paid them? Karlheinz Sakamaki, known by some as the king of the vampires. You would think a being such as a vampire would be strongly rejected by the two people who ran a church, however, it wasn’t doing well at the time. In exchange for the money he offered up front and the promise of financial support in the future, they agreed to take Sayo in and go along with his plan for her future. A future she was strongly rejecting.
After changing and getting her things ready, she began her walk to school. Most students she knew didn’t walk to and from school, especially considering it was a night school, but it wasn’t like anybody from the church was going to drive her.
Her friend Kisa Fujimoto’s mother had offered to drive her multiple times, but she always felt too bad to agree. She had a hard time accepting people trying to go out of their way to help her. It was a bad habit, something she had gotten better at recently, but it all stemmed from how she was raised….
“Sayo? Hey, are you even listening?”
Sayo lifted her head from her desk. The school day had ended and her and her friends were the only ones in the classroom. Leiko Koizumi was leaning towards Sayo from her seat at the desk next to her.
“Of course I’m listening,” Sayo sat up straight.
“Liar,” Lei grinned. “I know you too well to believe that. Getting lost in thought is your thing.”
“You’ve caught me,” she chuckled. “What were you saying?”
“We were talking about our next practice,” Kisa grinned, leaning against Sayo’s desk.
Emi Akiyama was with them as well. The four had been friends since elementary school. Before she had met Lei or Kisa, Sayo had only been close to Emi. The two were often holed up on their own in the library during their free time. Sayo was avoiding going home, just like she did now, and Emi was so shy at the time that she followed Sayo around like a lost duck because she didn’t talk to very many people.
That all changed when Kisa transferred in. She was loud and energetic, which rubbed some people the wrong way, but despite that, she was quick to make friends. Out of everyone, she grew extremely close to Lei because of their shared love of music.
Secretly, Emi admired Kisa from afar. She saw many of the things she lacked as a person in Kisa, and wished she had even a fraction of Kisa’s confidence. After a while, Kisa caught on. And so, she made it her mission to befriend the shy girl who liked her so much and, consequently, the bookworm who Emi hid behind when she was embarrassed. Kisa would purposely seek them out in the library, dragging Lei with her as well. Eventually, the four became inseparable.
Currently, Emi and Kisa were in a different class than Lei and Sayo. Even so, each day after school ended the two would join them. Whether they were working on homework together, studying, or just talking, it didn’t matter as long as they were doing something together.
During their first year of high school, the group decided to start a band. Kisa learned how to play bass and guitar as a child, and Lei had learned to play the drums in junior high. Emi’s mother loved playing the piano, and had taught her as a child as well, so she already knew how to play an instrument. That left Sayo. She didn’t have the money to buy her own. But since Kisa favored the bass, she taught Sayo how to play the guitar. After years of practice, Kisa wanted to put their skills to good use. They had already been writing songs together, so the next step would be performing.
They started off small, playing for whatever random events or places that would let them. The group was just looking for experience and to make a name for themselves, even if it was small, so they didn’t require payment. Eventually their band, Bitter Step, gained a following big enough to be regular performers at a dance club. It was an understatement to say they were grateful. The band was their pride and joy. They just wanted to continue doing what they loved.
“Yes," Emi smiled, munching on a cookie she had baked before school. “My plans for this weekend changed, so I’m able to do it Friday after all.”
Emi had passed out cookies to the rest of them as well earlier. The other girls had already finished them.
“The usual work, Sayo?” Lei asked.
“Does indeed,” she agreed.
“Then it’s settled,” Lei wrote it down in the planner she always carried with her. “Since we’ve figured that out, I should probably head home now. It’s getting pretty late.”
“That’s true...” Emi glanced at her phone to see the time. “I have to get home as well. I still have a lot of work to get done…”
Considering the two had announced it was time to go, everyone began packing up their things.
“Procrastinating on homework again, huh?” Kisa couldn’t help but laugh. “You never change, Emi. I’ll come with you so I can help, alright?”
“Thank you so much!” Emi smiled, her cheeks dusted pink.
“Come on, come on,” Kisa grabbed her hand and pulled her towards the door. “You’re too slow~”
“Yes, I’m coming!” Emi exclaimed, trying to match Kisa’s pace.
Lei and Sayo laughed, following after the two. They all exchanged goodbyes once they had reached the school entrance before going their separate ways. This was a normal day for them.
“Eve. You are the original. You must awaken. Awaken, Eve. Awaken.”
And as of a few days ago, that voice echoing through her head was becoming normal as well. It was the voice of Karlheinz Sakamaki, trying to push her into finally going along with his twisted plan...
Karlheinz had done nothing but torture her ever since she had known him. The day they first met, everything went to hell, for both her and her adoptive parents. That day, a tragedy struck, one that would have made her parents reject that large sum of money when he first approached them with the infant Sayo had they known it would occur.
Their real child, Shiro, died that day. And ever since then, they had blamed her because it was easier than blaming the man who helped keep the church in business. Her relationship with them had always been rocky at best, so it was rather easy for them to completely turn on her. They left her in the care of the nuns and only spoke to her when necessary. But of course, simply abandoning her to others wasn’t cruel enough. Instead, they told the nuns to treat her cruelly, like a servant, like someone who was subhuman. And so, they treated her terribly. Any nun who tried to show her any semblance of kindness was driven away. That was how much her parents hated her. And after her outburst that god didn’t exist shortly after her brother’s death, the nuns came to hate her as well.
Sayo had come to terms with that a long time ago. Trying to survive in such an environment was a lot harder when she was younger. But at seventeen, she was fully capable of silently doing her work and keeping out of the way. She had her moments, of course, like earlier that day. When she was in a bad mood, it wasn’t uncommon to accidentally say something to the wrong person and get slapped around in return.
Unlike a few years ago, they no longer tried to do worse. She had grown too much to make it easy for them. When she fought back, it would take multiple people to hold her down to accept her punishment. The nuns simply got tired of it after a few tries. It wasn’t worth the effort. They all knew, at this point, there was no getting through to her. Besides, they were just biding their time until she was finally gone.
The nuns didn’t know the specific details as to why, but they knew her parents were planning on pawning her off to some other family. The story that had spread throughout the church was that they were trying to arrange for her to marry the son of one of the church’s beneficiaries. Once that engagement was finalized, they planned to ship her off to live with them. Sayo hated that the rumor wasn’t that far off from the truth. In a way, her parents were going to give her back to Karlheinz, so that she could fulfill her role in his “Adam and Eve” plan.
This was something she was trying to oppose more than anything. Her role as “Eve” was to find her “Adam”...meaning Karlheinz was specifically trying to set her up with one of his sons. From what she understood, he thought he could somehow create a superior race if the plan succeeded. Sayo didn’t understand how that was even possible and had no desire to find out. She had figured out both families of vampires were sadistic and looked down on humans, treating them horribly. She had found out as much from the other Eve, Yui Komori.
Karlheinz had arranged for them to meet a couple of months ago, unbeknownst to his sons. Ironically, he was in a power struggle with Sayo. Since she was the one he originally chose to be Eve, he wanted her to willingly participate in his plan. It would make things go more smoothly. Since she knew about the plan, if she denied her role, even if he forced her to live with his sons, there could be problematic side effects. Either way, her stubborn refusal was a problem. Yui, on the other hand, knew nothing of the plan, so there was no way for her to deny her role as the second Eve.
He thought meeting the girl she would be living with would help Sayo accept her role, but it had quite the opposite effect. When they were alone, Yui told her some of the horrible things the Sakamaki brothers had done. She was appalled. Those stories made her want to run for the hills and only strengthened her resolve to deny Karlheinz and his plan with everything she had.
As much as Sayo wished she could help Yui get out of that situation, there was nothing she could do. Yui didn’t mind. She still didn’t know about the Adam and Eve plan, and assumed Sayo was another “prospective bride”. All she wanted was for Sayo to continue resisting so they wouldn’t share the same fate.
“Eve. Awaken, Eve. You do not have the luxury of watching from the sidelines. You must find your Adam.”
Sayo could suddenly see a flash of a glass pavilion. She had seen it before in her dreams. There was a large apple tree growing in the middle of it. Just like usual, it wasn’t blooming...but it wasn’t dying either. The only time she wanted to see that damn vision was if the tree was finally dying. She shook her head furiously to rid herself of it.
'Shut up! I don’t want to be a part of your sick game!'
Considering she was hearing Karlheinz’s voice more frequently, she had a feeling something would happen very soon. Exactly what, she wasn’t sure. All she knew was that after the meeting with Yui, he was giving her a little time to accept things. The next time he talked to her, he was expecting a more reasonable answer….although his idea of reasonable differed immensely from hers.
Unfortunately, she was right on the mark. When she got home, she noticed there was a limo parked outside the church. That certainly wasn’t normal. She had a bad feeling about this. Trying her best to ignore it, she walked by it, trying to get around to the back entrance. However, the door opened before she could get far. Sayo glared once she realized who was exiting the car.
“I was going to offer you a ride home, but thought better of it considering you were spending time with those friends of yours,” Karlheinz smiled at her.
“I wouldn’t have accepted,” she tried to walk past him, but he held an arm out to stop her.
“Please wait. We are going to have this discussion either way. Would you rather I wake up your parents, so they are present to hear what I have to say?”
Her parents would only complicate things, so she would rather not get them involved. Talking to all three of them pissed her off very easily, although that man could put her in a rage all on his own. She was surprised he was willing to speak with her without them. If she was alone, she was more likely to attack him. She had a few times in the past, not that it ever worked. As much as she wanted to, it was pointless.
“Shall we have this discussion in the car? If we go inside, someone might report it to your parents.”
“Whatever,” she grumbled.
“You have a much cooler head than usual,” Karlheinz noted as the two got into the limo.
That was certainly true. It wasn’t uncommon for her to immediately lash out at him in rage the moment she saw him. That happened less frequently the past few times he had come to speak with her. She still despised him, but had learned to keep her cool, even if she was thinking nasty things the entire time.
“Don’t misunderstand. I would rip your head off if I got the chance,” there was a sickly sweet smile on her face.
“Let us put any feelings we may have of each other aside so we can have a proper discussion. I am sure you know why I am here.”
“To try to convince me to accept that I am Eve,” she stated, rolling her eyes. “And, like usual, you’ll fail to do so.”
“Not quite. I have realized that the only way you will accept you are Eve is when you find your Adam. At first, I thought it would be best for you to move in with my sons-”
“No way in hell,” her answer was immediate.
“Hear me out before you outright refuse.”
“Why should I? Yui told me plenty of things about her time living with them. Do you really think I’ll agree to moving in when they’re just going to try to control what I do and treat me like a blood bag? No thanks.”
“You did not let me finish. Originally, I wanted you to move in with my sons, but I have changed my mind.”
She stared, baffled. What on earth could cause his change of heart? She would never understand him.
“Before I continue, I have something for you. Call it a peace offering.”
He pulled something out of his jacket pocket before holding it out for her. Sayo glanced down, fairly skeptical as to what it was. But she was shocked. It was a new pocket knife, much nicer than the one she had currently.
“Why are you giving me this?” She questioned, but took it anyway before he could change his mind.
“It is silver. I thought you might appreciate a new one.”
“What’s the catch?” She narrowed her eyes at him.
“There is none, child. I will say, I am surprised. You have mellowed out quite a bit since the last few times we have spoken.”
He wasn’t wrong. But her rage never fazed him.
“You giving me this does not mean I won’t use it on you if I get the chance,” she stated, deciding to be blunt.
He ignored the comment. “Now, I shall continue. I have decided you are more suited for the Mukami family. I know enough about your human life to understand what you desire-”
“That is bullshit-”
“Just listen, child. I know my sons well enough to know they will try to put an end to the life with your friends that you desire. That is why the Mukami family is a better fit for you.”
“I don’t care if they are a better fit for me. That does not change my stance on this. I will not take part in your plan. I am not your Eve. You found a new one. What more do you want?”
“The Mukami brothers failed to become Adam. I wish to see if that will be different with you.”
“Like I give a damn what you want. That doesn’t change the fact that they’re a family of vampires. I am not a blood bag and I am not Eve. Me being there will not lead to the outcome you want.”
“That is not something you can say for sure.”
“Sure it is,” she crossed her arms across her chest.
This conversation wasn’t going anywhere. His attempts at persuasion never did. She had heard him out for long enough.
“If that’s all, I’ll be going,” she stood up.
“I am not finished. I have given you plenty of time to consider this. I have waited long enough. You will admit to the Mukami brothers that you will be Eve by the end of next week…or there will be consequences.”
She didn’t reply, choosing to get out of the limo in silence. Karlheinz made no attempt to stop her. He had given his final warning. It was time to move forward with his plan…whether she was willing or not. Hopefully she would choose to accept it because of his threat, but he knew her well enough to figure she would be too stubborn. But he didn’t need her to agree at this point. The cogs of fate would start turning either way. He had an ace up his sleeve, after all.
Sayo was grateful that man let her go. Just that short interaction was exhausting. All she wanted to do was go inside and get to bed. She had work to do before school, after all. She was used to getting little sleep, but had no intention of shortening how much she got tonight.
As she was laying in bed, she couldn’t help but dwell on the conversation. Yui hadn’t told her anything about the Mukami brothers when they first met. From what Karlheinz had said, they had attempted to become Adam already through Yui. So what had she experienced with them? Was it similar to her time with the Sakamaki brothers? Talking to Yui at school could earn her unwanted attention from those vampires. She wanted to know what she would be up against, though, if the Mukami brothers went after her. If something happened after her week was up, maybe she would just have to risk going to Yui to get that information….
She sighed. This whole situation was a pain in the ass. Eventually she would need to make a plan on what to do about the Mukamis after her week was up, but that would have to wait. She was too exhausted to think about it anymore. And so, she fell into a restless sleep, the anxiety of the situation continuing to eat at her through her dreams.
Sayori could struggle all she wanted, but it is not easy to change one's fate. At least she had been spared from the Sakamaki brothers. She was unaware of it, but the Mukami family did have a sense of humanity deep down. They had been human, after all. And Yui's kindness did end up affecting them during her time there. Her savior truly was Yui. If she had not become an Eve, Sayori would have suffered a much crueler fate....

*bangs fists on table* PLAYLIST PLAYLIST PLAYLIST. What are your top five tracks and why?
Five. FIVE? OUT OF 167 TOTAL SONGS IN THE EXTENDED MUSIC VERSE? You realize this is like, an impossible question. 🤣🤣 But I will play by the rules and give you five—though I refuse to rank them so you can consider them all of equal rank. Short answer: Between Wind and Water by Hael Breath by Ex Makina Blackest Hand by Saint Mesa Everybody Bleeds the Same by Kerli Bloodsport by Raleigh Ritchie
Pure coincidence that they almost all start with ‘b’. ‘Why’ under the cut for length (natch) and Fate and Furor spoilers.
Between Wind and Water
This song over the past year has become my peak soft!Hubriel song (for a given value of soft—vulnerable, I think, would be more accurate). The first time it popped up on the playlist, I listened to it on repeat for more hours than I am willing to assign a value to and just Had Emotions All Over The Place. The ‘stare into space, feel overwhelmed from head to toe, make choked noises of wistful longing’ kinds of emotions. In addition to the actual instrumental parts having this compelling, complex rhythm, the vocals on this track are really beautiful and full of such yearning.
The lyrics, of course, are on point as well. I’m in trouble now being such a key refrain of the verses was one of the first things that struck me, and it’s such a Gab and Hugo mood. There are so many reasons them getting together is, objectively, a bad idea, everything from complicating the Squall’s hierarchy to complex and difficult power dynamics to the general culture of the fold. But they fall into it anyway, and what I really love is that even though it’s slotted in the early Hubriel days—and definitely, the ‘I’m catching feelings and I am so fucked’ mood is most prevalent there—you can as easily look at this through a Fate and Furor lens and find a lot of mileage too.
And the chorus of this? YIKES. FULL EMOTIONAL DESTRUCTION. Neither Gab nor Hugo do anything by halves, and I love that the chorus alludes to being out of control but unable to stop yourself from upping the intensity. Implying the other person strips them of their defenses? Another Hubriel mood.
What really tipped this over for me, though… It was only a few months ago I learned that ‘between wind and water’ is both a nautical term and an idiom. And sorry, but ‘any point particularly susceptible to attack or injury’ basically describes Hugo and Gab’s relationship. Through all the years, through everything, they have been between wind and water. But as the chorus implies: they’re not capable of stopping it, and every attempt just sinks them further in.
Breath
I got so spoiled on my birthday with Hubriel content and I’m so glad this song was a part of the gift. I remember being on the train the first listen through, and then I blinked and several hours of daydreaming had passed. This song, more than any other song, I consider the quintessential Gab song, particularly in the context of Gab and Xeheia’s relationship.
The bluster, the arrogance, the brashness—those are all absolutely parts of Gab, and ones I love dearly. But beneath all the Bad Man Hot, there’s definitely a vulnerability that doesn’t get shown often at all, and I think Breath captures that perfectly. He loves as hard as he fights, and his love and faith for Xeheia are such an integral part of his character; this song evokes such immersive yearning. Peak moody maritime vibes. (;
The second I heard this song, the entire scene with Xeheia and Gab in Fate and Furor wrote itself. I listened to it compulsively on repeat as I drafted and edited it.
AND FINALLY, SIX MONTHS LATER (SORRY LOL) I can talk about why it grabbed me so hard from the jump with the opening lyrics of ‘speak your truth—they already know’. Even as far back as November I knew that the lead up to Gab finally meeting with ACTUAL Xeheia again would be a lot of hard conversations: with the fold, with his crew, and especially with Hugo. And immediately in my head, I just interpreted that as a Xeheia to Gab sentiment. Her return faith in him—that she shares with Hugo, meme jokes be damned—that he’s capable of doing this, that they know what he feels is true and he should embrace it.
And the look on your face was here in every sound routinely messes me up real good from this song. My favourite interpretation of this is Xeheia to Gab, expressing she was always with him.
Still your mind, there’s oceans below/Raise your sail and then let go – This lyric perfectly encompasses Gab’s ascension – his TRUE ascension as Xeheia’s scion, not Patriarch, and I love that it could be interpreted to refer to the depths.
And, it doesn’t hurt that this song fits perfectly for post-Carnage Xeheia too. <3
Blackest Hand
OH MY GOD. I had to interrogate my motives for picking this as one of the five to make sure it wasn’t just ‘FINALLY, THE CONTEXT IS MADE CLEAR’, but no, honestly, this is the quintessential Hugo song to go with the Gab version in ‘Breath’. (And pairs with ‘Throne’ on the Gab playlist I made). Obviously Saint Mesa is a Certified F&F Artist, so I had to have one of his songs on there, and this is definitely the one for the five.
Usually even when plotting I go from beginning to end, but with Fate and Furor, I knew all the ending scenes and worked backwards. (Don’t ask me about my act 3 rework, I beg you). So for almost an entire year, I have been sitting on my hands with the context of this song. LIKE. I’m screaming into my fist right now.
Every single lyric in this song maps to something in F&F much like every lyric in Breath maps to something. I’ve been all the cold, see me: I took this as more as a metaphorical sort of cold, both in demeanour and being on the outside. I’ve been in the world, see me: Obvious allusions to Hugo’s widespread worldly experience with all his different roles. I’ve been coming short, breathin’: I love a good drowning callback. I’ve been killing my demons: the navy, the fold (metaphorically), Izod. I’m a second chance, see me: Both references to Hugo’s relationships with Gab and Xeheia and his legendary survivability. I’m a dead romance, see me: … too soon? But also metaphorically. I’m the blackest hand, beating: Needs no explanation. I’m the biggest man, bleeding: Don’t we all know it? EVEN THE BRIDGE!!! Light my face up: I knew The Traitor’s Gaze would be destroyed in the final chapter, and I knew it would go out in a blaze of glory with the iddy bonus of Hugo getting temporary glowy eyes. Drip down the bluff: You know, storming on the cliffs of Watcher’s Cove Crack open the mountain: ALMOST LIKE A CERTAIN MOUNTAINSIDE CRUMBLING AROUND HUGO AND GAB And call out your son: LIKE, HELLO?? I love that this can be read two ways in context of the final scenes – calling out Gab as Xeheia’s chosen son, or calling out Hugo, who used to be Xeheia’s son too
Is the refrain of ‘the blackest hand’ a bit on the nose? Perhaps. Do I think it’s fucking stellar anyway? Yes.
Everybody Bleeds the Same
Kerli is another artist who has massive F&F vibes and who is on most of the playlists so I knew I wanted one Kerli song, and this one is definitely it.
This song is like… my favourite complicated messy late game Hubriel feelings. The entire first verse is basically a chapter 12 and 13 mood. Every wound is salty, every memory scarred came for my whole entire throat, as does forgive me, I’m a failure when it comes to your heart.
I don’t have as much detailed analysis for this one as I have for some of the other ones. What I love the most about it is like… Gabriel and Hugo, by the end, have both reached some level of acceptance of their history? We cannot take back the damage we’ve caused/We cut too close and we push too far could be about the literal events of Fate and Furor and about the entire Hubriel relationship tbh.
To me, this song is about the acknowledgement that they’re both hurting and hurt, that they’ve both made mistakes, but in the end – they’re in it together, flaws and mistakes and all.
Bloodsport
If Between Wind and Water is my vulnerable!Hubriel anthem, Bloodsport is and has been my contentious!Hubriel anthem.
This gives me all the emotions for different reasons than Between Wind and Water. This is like… the unique amalgamation of hate and love and hate to love that makes Hubriel so delicious to me and why I love them so much? There’s a lot of allusions to a tough history in this song (And though you hate me, when you have a turn/I drive you crazy but you always return) as well as loving each other through that tough history (Although you love me, sometimes we’re mean/Things can get ugly but we’re still a team)
Knowing how the last couple chapters of Fate and Furor went, the I am all yours, I am unmanned/I’m on all fours, willingly damned pre-chorus has gotten me good for the better part of a half a year… you know, since literally both of them are on all fours and willingly ready to damn themselves for each other at the end. (‘:
And like… I’ve got your back, and though it’s stacked against us/I’ve got your hand, it’s us against consensus speaks a lot to the entirety of Fate and Furor tbh. Neither Gab nor Hugo’s people are fully onboard with what they’re doing, or even partially, but even though they fight and argue about it, they have each other’s back in the end against impossible odds.
Anyway, what I'm trying to say is I'll protect you til the day I meet my maker/So don't fight me now cause you might need me later – I swear this line came up in discussions elsewhere between us, but it gets me every single time, especially with the full scope of the plotty part of their story done. What I love is that this could equally be read from Hugo or Gab’s perspective; both of them are fiercely protective of each other (no one gets to hurt/kill you but me energy), and both of them have needed each other at integral parts in their journey.
Thanks for asking and for humoring me, because I could easily talk this much about every song on all these playlists, not just these five. <3 <3 <3

Investigations (Part 2): Ran Haitani x Fem!Reader

masterlist
Part 1
song recommendation:
"So I've come up with a motive," you begin, tapping the one word on the chart paper as you stand at the head of the table. "Power." The other women gathered "oooh" and "ahh" at your discovery, which makes you smile and then launch into your train of thought. "This gang is upping the ante, and they're trying to wrench control of whoever came before them. Not only is it our job to figure out who this new gang is, but who the previous gang was."
Fumiko raises her hand briefly.
"But what if the new gang is made up of members of the old gang?"
"Then we have a lot of problems," Yoko mutters, rubbing her forehead. "That means we've missed a lot of things in the past three years."
"But we have a lot of time to catch up," you answer. "First, we need to make a list of all of the gangs we've seen in the past and their members."
"I can name a few," Naomi begins, taking out a small notepad and flipping through it. "Toman, Valhalla, Tenjiku, Black Dragon..."
"All disbanded," Naomi mentions.
"Right. But what happened to the people in them afterward? Who would know?" Yoko asks, raising a brow.
"Taiju Shiba," you reply, and everyone perks up excitedly.
"Wait, the restaurant owner?" You nod, grabbing your purse and smiling slyly.
"Are y'all ready for lunch?"
_____________________________________________________________
"Taiju!"
"Y/n," the large man replies, smiling widely and hugging you closely. You relax into his embrace, smelling his expensive cologne. "You look really good. Your husband taking care of you and your son?"
"Always," you laugh, pushing his chest lightly. "Stop trying to steal me away, Shiba."
"I can only try, can't I?" He looks behind you, staring at your gaggle of friends who look like they've seen a celebrity. "Who are your companions?"
"I brought my friends; we have some questions for you."
"About?"
"Toman, Valhalla, Tenjiku..." you list, and Taiju laughs.
"Sounds like this will be a long lunch."
Taiju sits at the head of the table, and the rest of you are split on either side of the private booth, listening to him intently.
"I was actually the Head of the Black Dragon," he mutters, drinking his whiskey. "But things changed when Mikey came along."
"The head of Toman," Yoko confirms, pen poised to write, and Taiju nods, his yellow eyes glazing over.
"That kid was a pain in my ass."
"And who was the head of Tenjiku at the time?" you wonder.
"Izana Kurokawa."
"And Valhalla?"
"Kisaki Tetta." The names ring hollow for you, but the other women are absorbing the information Taiju is offering. "Why are you asking these questions?"
"We suspect that gang activity is increasing here in Tokyo," Naomi chimes in, lifting her form full of oyster to her mouth. "And we're trying to get to the bottom of it."
"Playing detectives, huh?" Taiju looks at you with amusement. "I'll bite. You'd be right; there is a gang that's been increasingly hostile in the area. But you really don't want to dig too deep in this one."
You ignore his warning, tucking a strand of hair behind your ear.
"And is there anyone we can talk to about the heads of these organizations?"
"Everyone is dead except me and Manjiro."
"Anyone in Tenjiku, Black Dragon, Toman, or Valhalla who is still alive?" Something flickers in Taiju's eyes, but he sighs, shaking his head.
"Not that I know of." You know this is a lie, but it's obvious that this lunch is over when the others look at you in unison. When you stand, Taiju stands with you, offering you a small smile before taking your hand and kissing it. "It's been a pleasure seeing you again, y/n."
"You too, Taiju."
"If you need anything, please let me know." You nod, letting the others walk ahead of you. But Taiju pulls you back sharply, whispering,
"You're a lot closer to the source than you think. Give this up before your family and friends get hurt." Then he lets you go, walking away as you reshoulder your bag and rub your wrist, wondering why Taiju was being so cryptic with his warnings and lies.
_____________________________________________________________
"Mommy, watch!" Your son turns to his father and tosses his arms up, laughing as Ran picks him up and pilots him around in the air while making motor noises. "I'm a helicopter!"
"You're so high in the sky," you laugh, grinning at the giggling child as you cook dinner.
You're a lot closer to the source than you think.
You stare into the pasta for a moment, unsure of what to make of the events earlier in the day. "You alright, babe?" You feel Ran at your backside, holding your waist and looking over your shoulder at the food. "You've been really quiet today."
"Just thinking," you reassure him, then turn your attention to your two-year-old who is playing with cars on the floor.
"Vroom, vroom!"
"What about?" You pause, then turn to face Ran, removing the food from the stove.
"You," you lie, but Ran just smiles, cupping your face with both hands and kissing you deeply.
"Always thinking of me, hm?" He kisses you again, and you run your fingers through his hair, moaning into his mouth. "Such a good wife."
"And you're the best husband."
_____________________________________________________________
The man across from you smokes a long drag of his cigarette, then blows it out dramatically in your face. You don't make any move to wave away the smoke in your eyes and look around the small office before your gaze lands back on the tall figure folded into a rickety office chair. His hair is long and black, barely hidden by the hood covering it.
"You have some balls tracking me down, y/n."
"I don't have time to play games, Hanma," you breathe. "Valhalla and Tenjiku. You were a part of both, correct?"
"Guilty as charged," Shuji mumbles, rolling his eyes. "What's the wife of Ran Haitani doing here in my brothel?"
"I need some information about both. And you're the only one I can come to since Kisaki is no longer living."
"Why?"
"There's increasing gang activity and my friends and I are trying to get to the bottom of it."
"Didn't Taiju tell you to drop this?" Hamna wonders, quirking his lips up.
"He came to you?" You lean forward, frowning. The sounds of the brothel can barely be heard all the way upstairs, but you can barely make out a slight moan in the silence that proceeds Shuji's statement.
"Of course he fucking did. You're sticking your nose in old business, babe. He knew you'd come here eventually." Shuji puts the cigarette out in his ashtray. "But lucky for you, Taiju and I don't really have any loyalties to each other. What do you want to know?"
You take a moment to think, but finally, you come out with your question. "First, who was in Tenjiku?"
Shuji grunts once, standing and pushing his hood back.
"How about we start with your brother-in-law and your husband?"

Closed to @graveresemblance — “Cyberdrunk”
The craving for a smoke hasn’t left.
The sun is burying itself now, slowly but surely into the ground. Juno has been…adjusting quite well, really. It’s not home, but it may as well be. She’s checked out the ins and outs of Chronolium, and has been trying to find a spot to open up shop. Nothing yet, and she’s still working on getting the layout memorized. She knows that’ll come with time.
What she did end up finding earlier, however, was a bar. And with the sun setting, it was the perfect time to mask the cigarette craving she had with another.
The bell on the door rings as she enters. She surveys the people in the bar, as she takes Makina, sheath and all, off her back. She notices someone with blond hair right in front at the bar, and moves towards her. She takes the empty seat to the left of her, white braid closer to the woman than Juno’s tattoo. As she hides Makina under the bar, leaning it against the wood, she nods at the bartender, who turns around. “Sake,” Juno says. “And make it quick.”
The bartender simply nods, and within a few minutes, a guinomi is slid delicately across the table, in front of the weapons dealer. Juno picks it up with her right hand, and takes a small, controlled sip, making sure not to scratch the ceramic cup with her fanged teeth. After taking that sip, she mulls something over in silence. “Come here often?” She says to the woman next to her, without making eye contact.

Makina’s Thoughts on Otaku Corps
Tumblr media
Keiko Yumi
“Shian told me a bit about Yumi. I like some of her mangas, to be honest. She makes good content but I’m not super familiar with the content creator. I’ve seen her in passing, though. She’s pretty chill, but it always felt like there’s this weird standoffish thing about her. But after what Shian’s told me, maybe we’re not so different from each other.”
Criss Hiromi
“Ghost Girl? I’ve seen her videos before, they’re pretty fun. I’m a huge fan of horror games, and her content is entertaining. I mean… her personality on the internet is fun… but it’s kind of a pain in the ass offline… not like I leave the house enough to run into her.”
Nikki Yoshie
“I do look up to Nikki-san. I don’t often stream MOBAs since I prefer FPS and horror games, but we’ve played on the same teams and have battled each other before. She’s a good one… she always lasts the longest and I hate her for that. I mean that with much love and I’m kinda glad to know we got a good opponent. It’ll be nice to duel it out in the DRB prelims.”
Otaku Corps
“No hard feelings to anyone on this team, I do like them. But… I owe it to Anika to have our team live through the tournament. Plus my pride is on the line, so I don’t plan on losing. Not in video games…” Makina pushed the photos away from her, watching as they flew off the table. “And not the in the DRB.”

Starving Artists
Master List
Warnings: Mentions of suicidal ideation, alludes to sex, and swearing.
New York was always loud, always living up to its nickname. The city that never sleeps, Sungjin thinks as he meanders through the alley leading to his destination, but it’s always so quiet over here. The area he’s in is nothing like where he lives, here the gutters are littered with broken bottles and discarded newspapers flutter across the sidewalk like tumbleweeds. Here the buildings are brick and wooden, fire escapes creaky and used more as a place to smoke than to run, so unlike the pristine glass buildings Sungjin inhabits with his roommates. However, this part of Queens holds something Manhattan could never, here in the dark bars and the dimly lit doorways, are more musicians than Sungjin can count, and in the building in front of him, lives the best bassists he’s ever heard.
Brian and his girlfriend Y/n live the way artists in movies do, the way Sungjin thinks they were destined to, in a studio apartment, in some dingy brick building, in nowhere Queens. Y/n is a barista by night and a painter by day, Brian plays in Sungjin’s band most nights and teaches people about music at some half-dead music shop. Sungjin liked to dream these two were living the perfect life for them, but he knew the reality, he knew their vices, the way they would smoke when they were stressed, the way she would crank the music up too loud in her headphones when she was focused on something, he knew how Brian liked to stand on the edges of tall buildings, just to feel the rush of almost dying. Sungjin knew they weren’t in great places, he knew they struggled more often than not, even though they would never ask him, or any of their friends, for help, that’s why he was here today, he had something, something for them that would change all of their lives.
Their apartment was on the ninth floor, all the way at the top, and the only sound that echoed through the concrete and brick building was that of Sungjin’s sneakers as he jogged up each flight of stairs. Stopping in front of their door, Sungjin caught his breath, winded from the climb up.
“Yo, Y/n, Brian, you guys awake?” He calls, rapping on the metal door. It quiet for a moment before he hears you answer him, beckoning him in. As normal, the spare key is hidden behind a loose brick and Sungjin lets himself into the flat. The door rolls closed behind him and he kicks off his shoes, setting the key down on the kitchen counter. He’s not surprised to find you in bed (which is actually just a mattress and box spring on the floor) flat on your back, probably just having woken up. “Hey, where’s Brian.”
“You know he hates being called that.” You laugh, tucking one of your arms under your head to see him better. “And you just missed him, he went up on the roof.” Sungjin huffs, rolling his eyes.
“Yeah okay. When you see him again, tell him we’re having a band meeting at Lucky’s. You work tonight, right?” You nod in confirmation and Sungjin copies you. “Okay great, be there at 3, it's important.” He rolls his eyes at your salute but turns to leave anyway. “Bye Brian, see you at three.”
“Bye Sungjin.” The voice from under the blanket calls.
Once the door rolls closed you throw the blanket off your boyfriend, whose face is now tinted pink and pressed into your bare thigh.
“Why are you like this?” You whine, and he responds by pressing a kiss to your inner thigh, “You absolute exhibitionist.” His laugh shakes through your body and he finally looks up at you, a cheeky grin on his lips.
“In my defense, I was kinda in the middle of something when he knocked.” Brian reminds you, nipping at your leg, making you let out a squeak.
“The logical response is usually stopping, or telling him to fuck off.” You counter, and Brian only shakes his head, crawling up your body, only stopping when his hands are next to your head, his head hovering only inches above yours.
“Admit that you liked it.” His voice is slightly deeper now, and he can’t stop his eyes from roaming from yours, down to your lips.
“You liked it more.” You answer and he can’t help the grin that spreads across his face.
“Maybe, maybe I want Sungjin to catch us.” He drops his head down, pressing kisses into your neck, “Maybe I like the way you react.” His leg hitches up further between yours and you bite back a moan. “Maybe I think, you want to get caught too.” You don’t actually have functioning words, too lost in the way his lips feel against your neck, so instead, you only groan. “What time is it?” You shift your head sideways, picking up the phone that lay discarded on the bed, he picks his head up from your neck to read the time displayed:
11:21 am
“We’ve got time.” You shrug, dropping the phone and pulling Brian’s lips to yours.
~~
You walk into the cafe with exactly 2 minutes to spare and are not even slightly shocked to find that Jae is running late. Sungjin gives you a smirk as you take your seats at the table in the back corner.
“Good morning.” Dowoon greets happily, “I bought you coffee and a muffin.” He slides the two over to you, with a grin on his face. “Did you get me anything?” Brian asks and Dowoon makes a face at his elder, shaking his head.
“We can share, besides, I get plenty of muffins during my shift anyway.” You move the treats in between you and your boyfriend, “Thank you Dowoonie.”
“So, Y/n,” Sungjin begins, and you prepare for the worst, “What’s Brian’s head game like?” Wonpil chokes on his drink, and you hear Jae from behind you say:
“Bet its weak.”
“We aren’t talking about yours.” Brian retorts immediately.
“Hey, I happen to be fantastic at giving head.” Jae defends, dropping his bag next to you and taking the empty seat on your other side.
“Boys or girls?” Dowoon asks, cheeky grin on his face.
“Yes.” Jae answers, "Care to test my skills?" He throws the younger boy a wink, and Dowoon stares at him silently for a moment before fake vomiting onto the table, and the others erupt in laughter.
“I don’t know Jae, it was pretty bad in high school.” You comment, sipping your drink innocently. Jae gasps dramatically.
“I was just an inexperienced young lad.” He replies, hand over his chest in mock hurt.
“What ass are you eating to be getting any better?” Wonpil asks, making Sungjin choke on his coffee in shock.
“Hey, I ain’t eating no ass.” Jae defends, “Unless it’s Brian’s.” His flirty remark is met with Brian pretending to vomit onto the floor.
“I’m sorry, can we go back to the part about Jae and Y/n in high school?” Dowoon asked, “Cause I was in high school with you, I have no recollection of you two being together, together, you always insisted you were just friends.”
“Oh cause we weren’t” You shrug, “We had sex, like once, maybe twice, then he got super shy and didn't speak to me for almost a year.”
“You were like, the hottest girl in school, and I was this dorky nobody. I panicked.” Jae pipes in, “ You literally wore leather to school on the regular, and I once wore the same outfit for a week and no one noticed.”
“You’re gross.” Brian comments. “Also unrelated note, do you still have any of those leather outfits, babe?” “I would but they’re probably at my parents if they kept anything after I left.”
“It would be a shame to get rid of those outfits, like the one pair of leather pants with the studs up the sides.” Jae recalls, “Those were sexy.”
“Thanks, Jae, I’m glad you thought I was sexy in high school.”
“Hey, that’s not to say you aren’t sexy now.”
“Oh my god, Y/n, you’re literally the Eagle 2 meme.” Wonpil cuts through Jae’s attempts at redeeming himself. You can’t help but laugh at your younger friend’s words, realizing he’s right.
“What’s the Eagle 2 meme?” Sungjin asks.
“It's from either Parks and Rec, or the Office,” You begin "and it goes something like this.” You sit up a little straighter. “From now on we will be using code names, you may address me as Eagle 1, Jae will be ‘been there done that’, Brian is ‘currently doing that’ Wonpil is ‘It happened once in a dream’, Dowoon is ‘If I had to pick a makinae’ and Sungjin is,” You pause for dramatic effect, “Eagle 2.”
“Oh thank god.” Sungjin’s sigh of relief is met with a chorus of laughter.
“So are we done talking about my girlfriend’s sex life?” Brian asks, tapping his fingers on the table, a nervous habit he picked up from you, “Cause we both have work tonight, and I gotta be there by 5.” You can tell he’s upset by the conversation, but all you can do at the moment is lace your fingers into his, and offer him a smile.
“Oh right,” Sungjin snaps his fingers, pulling a flyer from his back pocket. “There’s a battle of the bands in Central Park next month, the winner gets an exclusive deal with JYP Entertainment.”
“You want to sign up?” Jae asks, reading over the flyer intently, with you peeking over his shoulder.
“Winner claims an exclusive spot on JYPE artist roster and a confirmed year-long contract. Further prizes pending. Runner ups get 50,000 dollars. Two runners up prizes available” You read aloud, “That's fucking amazing, even if you don’t win, you’d still get some mad money.”
“That’s only if we get a runner up spot.” Wonpil reminds you.
“Pillie, you guys are so good, I would be shocked if they didn’t refer you directly to JYP himself after your audition.”
“When’s the audition?” Brian asks, accepting the flyer from Jae. “Its next week, but we don’t have any experience playing live unless you count those little sessions at work.”
“You guys could probably play here, we sometimes have bands come in to perform on Fridays, and I don’t think we have anyone set for this week.” You offered.
“Well, what does everyone think?” Sungjin prompts, looking to the younger band members. Dowoon and Wonpil exchange a glance before they both nod.
“It sounds like a good plan boss,” Dowoon chimes in, flashing everyone a thumbs up.
“Great.” Sungjin nods, turning back to you. “Could you ask your boss?” You salute him for the second time today, before leaning forward to talk to someone seated at another table.
“Miyoko, do we have anyone coming in to perform Friday?” Your boss glances up from her phone, thinking for a second before shaking her head. “Cool, can my boyfriend’s band play?”
“Sure, what’s the name?” All eyes fall to Sungjin, as the realization that none of you had ever figured that part out hits.
“Day6.”
~~
It isn’t long before the band members have to leave, Wonpil and Dowoon having classes to attend, Jae being forced to attend his dad’s company get together, and Sungjin scurrying back to his apartment to get everything prepped for the performance. Soon enough, it's time for Brian to leave as well.
“Do you want me to pick you up tonight?” He asks, slinging his bag over his shoulder.
“No its okay, I’m not getting off till 1 am anyway, you should go home and sleep.” You smiled up at him, pulling him down to your height for a kiss.
“Okay, see you when you get home.” He kisses you once more before he’s walking away, stuffing his headphones in his ears. You know something’s wrong, and you know it's going to bother you all day.
And you’re right, most of the day, well night, is filled with you wondering if Brian was okay. When 1 am rolls around, you're tired, but you walk as quick as your legs will take you to get home. No one bothers you, not even the homeless men or junkies on the streets, most of them know you anyway.
“Good morning, Y/n.” A familiar voice greets you as you turn down the alley to your building’s back door.
“Good morning, Bear.” You greet the looming man.
“You heading home?” He asks, not moving from his spot as you make your way further into the darkness.
“Yes sir,”
“Anyone bother you?”
“Not tonight, sweetie.” You yank open the door, and he lifts his hand in goodbye.
“Sleep well, little one.”
“Find somewhere warm, Bear, I hear we’re due for a storm soon.”
“Don’t worry about me.” You wave to him once more, before entering the dark building. You’re not shocked that the elevator isn’t working, but still grumble your way all the way up the stairs. Your apartment is quiet, so you creep in, taking care to not let the door creak as it slides closed. Your shoes are discarded at the door and you tiptoe through the apartment, trying to create as little noise as possible, although you know your boyfriend could sleep through a hurricane if he so chose. However, to your shock, the apartment appears to be empty, no lights are on and your bed is free of a Brian sized lump.
“Babe?” You call, dropping your bag on the floor by the bed. Flicking on the lamp on the bedside table, you wonder how long your boyfriend hasn’t been home, though your suspicions as to his whereabouts are confirmed when you glance to the side to find the window to the fire escape open.
Brian liked to be on the roof, even though he wasn’t supposed to be up there, something about always being able to hear music on the wind. He was sitting on a small ledge, an old garden box someone was growing weed in, with his back to you, his hair whipping in the wind.
“Babe?” Your voice doesn’t seem to reach him, and as much as you hate it, you join him fully on the roof. “Baby?” He starts, turning to you abruptly.
“What are you doing up here without a jacket?” He asks, opening his jacket and motioning for you to sit on his lap. You oblige, perching on one of his legs and wrapping your arms loosely around his shoulders. His arms, and a good portion of his jacket, wrap around your torso, protecting you from the biting wind.
“Why are you still awake?” He doesn’t seem to hear you, instead pressing his face into your collarbone, “Hey, talk to me, something’s been eating you since lunch.” One of your hands moves to cup his cheek, forcing him to look up at you.
“Nothing’s wrong babe, I was just thinking, didn’t realize how late it had gotten.” You knew he was lying, and instead of moving, you stared down at him with a raised eyebrow.
“Babe, I love you, and I have for a few years now, which means I know when you’re lying to me.” He shook his head, as well as he could with his face still in your hand.
“Nothing’s wrong, baby. Let’s just go to bed.” He tried to stand but quickly realized you weren’t moving. “Babe.”
“Babe me all you want, Younghyun.” He flinched slightly at your use of his real name. “I sleep literally inches away from you, sometimes less, if you try to go to sleep right now it’s just going to keep us both awake.” He stared at you for a moment before finally relenting under your gaze.
“I just, at lunch, when you were talking about high school with Jae and Dowoon, how could you possibly be happy the way we are?”
“What do you mean?” He sighed again, gaze dropping to your legs.
“Back in high school, you were popular, you had your family, you were with someone like Jae, the son of a very rich man, he could have given you the perfect life.”
“Is this about me and Jae? Cause aside from the two times we slept together, we were never a thing.”
“This is about the fact that we live in a shitty apartment, we barely make rent some months, there’s a rat the size of a fucking cat that lives with us, and you’re stuck here. You could have been something by now, you could have been living a comfy life, rolling in money, surrounded by your friends and family, not stuck out here in Queens, with someone like me.” He finished his rant quietly, and your heart broke at his words.
“I don’t care about the size of our apartment, and I’m not stuck here.” You explained. “Babe, look at me.” His gaze remained on your legs, “Younghyun, please?” Slowly, with the help of your fingers on his chin, he finally locked eyes with you. “I don’t care about my status, I would rather be a nobody in a trashy apartment with you, than in some fancy apartment building, staring down at the people below, completely alone. Before you, and before Sungjin and Dowoon and Wonpil, I had one friend I knew was real. Everyone else only wanted to be around me because my parents were literally worth twice what theirs were. Jae was my only friend, and for a while, I didn’t even have him. And you know what, just after high school, when Jae was still debating going to college, I had made up my mind. I was going to get a major degree, then I was gonna move somewhere away from my parents” You couldn’t help but smile as the memories caught up with you. “One night, after I finally got rid of the last of my fake friends, I am sitting on Jae’s couch, drinking shitty beer and watching reruns of Parks and Rec, when someone knocks on the door. I don’t think the person on the other side was expecting to find a girl in her undies answering Jae’s door, and lord knows I wasn’t expecting to find an incredibly handsome man, with two suitcases standing outside. But let me tell you something. That man changed my life, he showed me what it meant to live, to be free, to love with my whole heart.” You bring your hand up through Brian’s hair. “I don’t care where I am, as long as I am with him, with you, I’m where I’m supposed to be.” You were both quiet for a moment before Brian's hands were pulling you closer, and he was pressing kisses to your jaw.
“What did I ever do to deserve you?” He murmured between kisses and you can’t help but giggle.
“All the right things” You offered, “Now come on, let’s go back to our shitty apartment, and Jervis, and all the things that make living with you fun.”
“Jervis?”
“The rat.”

There was a slam at the door of the dorms of Ragna, where the pop idols Walkure were living.
“Kaname!!” A young man’s voice shouts. His silver hair glew a little in the soft light of the dorm in his arms he carried one of the idols, Mikumo.
“Satoshi-kun?!” Freya calls back,”Kaname’s not here at the moment.... but what’s-“ her voice dropped when she saw her comrade laying in the man’s arms. Her breathing was rough.
“What happened?” She asked.
“We were out shopping. Then she suddenly collapsed.” Satisfying explained. As Freya looked over Mikumo, checking her pulse, her breathing, and last of all she checked her skin warmth.
“She must be running a fever, hurry. Let’s get her to her room.” Freya ushers them into the dorms and up the stairs.
Mikumo lay on her bed, she was still panting, her face was flushed and she was sweating pretty badly.
“Was it something she ate?” Freya asked trying to get all of the details.
“We ate at Chuck’s restaurant. She was eating things that she didn’t normally eat, she kept saying she was feeling it today.” Satoshi explained.
“Sea spiders, jellyfish ramen, also some sparkling water, that’s it. But she collapsed almost three hours after we ate. Up until then she was completely fine.”
“Mmm Sato... where..” a soft voice rang behind them. The woman on the bed breathlessly spoke through her panting.
“Miku, you collapsed, I brought you back to the dorms.” The silver haired man knelt next to her. Taking her hand,”Why didn’t you tell me you weren’t feeling so good?” He asked.
Maroon eyes looked away for a moment to Freya,”Can him and I talk in private Freya?”
The young girl nods then leaves the room.
———————————————————————————
About 30 minutes pass by.
Freya was waiting patiently outside of the room. Soon Satoshi came staggering out.
“Satoshi-kun?” Freya asked worried for him. But he kept walking until he hit the sofa downstairs. Plopping himself down, his eyes looked like they were filled with panic.
Freya’s rune perked up. Now she was really worried. Opening the door to Mikumo’s room she asked,”Mikumo-san daisobu desuka?”
“Freya.. hai.. come here. I want to tell you something..” Mikumo spoke quietly. She was now sitting up in bed. Her long violet hair draped around her like a violet waterfall.
The orangette paced over to her slowly,”A-Are you okay? I saw Satoshi was looking a little scared.”
“Oh..” the older woman sighed breathlessly. “It’s a bit scary for both of us.”
“What is?” The girl sat by the other. Taking one of her hands.
Freya could feel Mikumo’s body tremble,”Something that will take me out of the team for a while, I won’t be able to sing with you four on stage.”
“Why. Are you sick?”
“No no.. Freya.. I’m having a baby...” maroon eyes looked down at her lap.
Worry turned to shock. Then shock became wonder. “Really?!” Freya nearly shouted as her eyes filled with glee.
“Hai~ I even wore my sweater to hide my little baby bump today, here..” Mikumo takes the hand she was holding and pressed it onto her middle, for sure was a small bump there.
“Wow..” The rune a top Freya’s head was pulsating with joy. “Don’t be scared Mikumo-san, you’ve got all of us here~” small arms wrap around the purplette’s body as Freya gives her a big hug,”Congratulations!”
Mikumo started to tear up a little, not of fear nor sadness, but of joy. “Arigatou..”
———————————————————
Around 5pm the rest of Walkure had returned from their shopping. Kaname and Makina were emptying their bags as Reina played with the mercats.
Mikumo walks down to the kitchen where her team leader and mechanic was.
“Good Evening..” she said calmly. Kaname looked up from what she was doing.
“Oh. Mikumo. We didn’t know you were home. Thought you were still out with Satoshi-kun?” She asked.
Mikumo sighs,”We came back a bit early. I was feeling a bit under the weather.”
“You? Sick? That’s new.” Makina piped up. “At least you look like you’re feeling better Kumo-Kumo.” She have her a toothy smile as she put some canned food in the pantry.
“Yeah.. sure.” She looked down and played with a bottle of sesame oil.
“There’s actually something else as well. Hey Reina,” Mikumo called to the smallest of their team out in the living room.
“Hai?” Reina called back as she stood and skipped over to the kitchen.
“Mikumo?”
“Kumo-Kumo?” Both in the kitchen asked.
Mikumo just lifted the tank she was wearing and turned to the side. To show off her baby bump.
“I-is that what I t-think it is?!” Makina asked with a stutter. Which was met with Mikumo’s nod. “Kumo-Kumo!” She squeals and bounces up and down.
Kaname was frozen. “We have a concert tonight Mikumo... are you going to sit it out?” She walks over to her companion and touched her shoulder.
“Not this one. I can perform again until I’m showing too much. Please Kaname?” Mikumo begged. Pulling her shirt back down. “I slept most of the day today anyway. I’m alert.”
Makina and Reina held hands in their cutest signature style. “Music is Love,” Reina started.
Makina giggles,”Music is Hope~” she connected her fingers to Reina’s making the Walkure symbol.
“Music is Life~” Kaname held a pair of fingers out to Mikumo who smiles softly nodding then she spoke.
“Music is Mystery.” As she connected two of her fingers to also make the symbol of Walkure.
They then heard a loud crash and ran to where it happened. In the living room. Freya had ran to the kitchen to join them. But had ended up on the floor after tripping over Mirage’s Mercat.
“Music is..... Energy!!” She groans out with a smile. Making the rest of them smile and laugh a little.
Mikumo knelt down and helped Freya off the floor.
“So she tell you?!” She asks a bit loudly. Kaname shushed her.
“Yes she did~ How do you know?” Kaname wrapped her arm around Mikumo’s waist.
“Oh. I was home when she and Satoshi-kun came back. He’s up stairs sleeping his shock away~ *wink*” she winks at Mikumo.
“Oh. Definitely can see him trying to calm down after such wonderful news.” Reina said quietly. “Papa..” she whispers.
A slight blush came over Mikumo’s face,”Uhhh Reina~” she waved bashfully at the smaller one.
“We should get ready for our concert.” Kaname spoke out.
“Hai!” The rest accepted.
————————————————————
A two hour concert happened around 9:30 pm to almost Midnight.
——————————————————
Around the second to last song Mikumo was getting a bit out of breath. She leaned forward trying to catch her breath.
“Can everyone cheer on Mikumo-san! Our newly wed of the group!” Kaname shouts into the mic catching Mikumo’s attention.
Loud cheering filled the seats around the stage.
Mikumo’s crimson eyes looked at her leader in confusion.
“You see she’s a bit out of practice!” Makina jokes around.
“Make sure to cheer extra loud for her!! Keep her going!” Freya cheered as well.
Reina checked her personal screen,”Vitals are fine!” She looks at Mikumo who’s in a state of surprise. ‘I was married 5 years ago. Tho..’
Kaname turned off her mic for a sec to talk to Mikumo,”We know, But they don’t~ it’s easier to tell people that you’re newly wedded instead of saying your gonna have a baby. Right?~”
The woman to her right nods and subconsciously reached for her middle. But played it off as her catching her breath with a bow.
“Our last song of the night will be Hametsu no Junjo!” Mikumo called out as their costumes changed. “Then our encore will be Ikenai Borderline! So keep up!”
—————————————————
After the concert was autograph signing. All of the ladies were sitting at their respective places signing T-shirt’s and figurines.
Satoshi had shown up and was sitting with Mikumo. Hiding his face with some sunglasses and a hoodie. “How’d it go?” He asked taking her free hand under the table.
“It went well, was a little out of breath towards the end but I’m fine now~” she reassured him. Squeezing his hand a little.
“Brought you something,” He holds out a little bracelet, engraved with their initials and on the back it made a hologram of the gender of child they would have, it was showing both as its base setting.
“Sato-kun~ I love it~” she leans onto him like a sideways hug.
A fan noticed the couple and ran up to Mikumo’s booth.
“Mikumo-san! Is this your new husband?!” She asks.
Crimson eyes closed as she nods. Making the young girl cheer happily,”Congratulations!!” The fan cheers. This made the singer blush her other hand set in her lap, on her belly. She gave a small smile. “Arigato~”
————————/—————/—————/——
Around 1:30 am the group finally returned back to their home.
All the girls yawn and stretch. Another concert done.
Mikumo sat gently onto the plush couch in the living room. Letting out a long sigh,”You.. are tiring me out already..” she spoke quietly directing her voice to her middle.
“Kumo-Kumo, can we see your belly again?” Makina asked from behind the couch with Reina.
“T-There’s not much to see yet Makina..” she protests with a blush.
“Pwease~~” Reina whines cutely.
“......*sigh* oh alright...” Mikumo sighed reluctantly and patted the cushions beside her,”Sit.”
The two girls sat on either side of her waiting in anticipation. Mikumo tentatively pulled up her shirt showing her belly, and the little mound that was forming there.
“See..” she said wistfully. Then jumped when both girls set their cold hands on her. “Eek! Your hands are cold!” She tries to pull away but she’s surrounded. Kaname was watching from overhead.
“Mikumo the Mama, has a nice ring to it~” she teased.
“Kaname!” Mikumo whines. Which was met with a giggle from the three.
“What do you think you’ll have?” Reina asks with a whisper like tone.
“I’m fine with either, although I want a little girl.” Mikumo smiles.
“Miku~ I’m going to be off tour for a few months so I’ll be here with you~” Satoshi smiles as he leans over the three on the couch.
“But then I have to go back on it for a few months later. I should be back before you have our baby. But. I have a friend who will stay with you too. Because we all know you’ll have to take maternity leave from Walkure.” He leans in and gives her a kiss.
“Who’s your friend?” Kaname asks.
“Oh. She’s from the Isle of Frontier, she is great friends with Sheryl.” He replies.
TBC.

Chapter 106
“No! You surely jest? Cross was a professor? Oh please you must tell me more!” Mia’s cup splashed slightly as she waved her hand in mirth before downing the plum wine and quickly filling it back up, but not before she took a moment to top off the glasses of the rest of those seated at the table.
“Must we?” Cross said, quiet enough to not be heard as he blocked Makina’s outstretched cup with his hand. The Spirit Goddess pouted but Cross did not relent. Having to deal with a sober Makina was a daunting enough task.
Lexi sipped her wine at a more leisurely pace. “He was quite a good professor, to speak truthfully. His knowledge of magic theory was impressive and I even learned some things I did not know.”
“So what was the cause in the end?”
“A succubus,” Lexi explained the situation. How Eliza had used the school as her hunting grounds, slowly siphoning off life force from the students. How Lara had used her own abilities to contact the guild. She faltered however, as she came near the end of the story, her eyes darkening. “She…. caught me by surprise. It was like I was trapped inside of myself. I could feel my body moving, but I had no control over it. Even when I saw Cross I….
“Lexi was the one who took her down in the end.” Cross took up the tale. “I was pretty much running scared. A few more seconds and she probably would have killed me. If I wasn’t immune to her powers, I wouldn’t have even had that.”
“Team work. That is why you were able to survive.” Mia reached over and playfully ruffled Cross’s hair. “I’m glad to see you’ve surrounded yourself with people you can trust.”
Cross moved to push her hand away then relented, allowing himself to be pulled into what amounted to a headlock, carefully using a single finger to keep Mia’s cup from spilling.
“What else have you done? I have heard many things have been happening on the mainland. Magic seems to be flourishing again. I imagine that has kept you quite busy.”
“We totally defeated a spider person,” Romeo said nonchalantly, tipping back his glass and draining it in a single gulp. “Wasn’t really hard or anything.”
“Banksy defeated her,” Makina said. “You were unconscious for a good portion of it, if I remember correctly.”
“We all worked together,” Banksy mumbled softly into his cup. “I didn’t do that much.”
“He’s being modest,” Lexi said. “Without Banksy there the mission would have been a complete failure.
Romeo rolled his eyes “Yeah fine, Banksy did do some stuff I guess, but I was the one who took out the guards. And I was under some kind of spell. Not unconscious, thank you very much. At least not until the end. And at least I was there. Cross got kicked out of the house before the fun even began.”
“Ho?” Mia’s grip around Cross’s neck tightened. “Maybe you’re not as helpful as I thought.”
“It worked out for the best anyway. I had a courier request back at the guild.”
“And how did that go?” Mia asked. She showed no signs of releasing Cross any time soon.
“It went…” Avril’s face flashed through Cross’s mind. Something somewhere between a grimace and a smile crept onto his face. “I completed the request.”
“I see.” Mia gave him one final squeeze before letting him go and turning her eyes on Lexi. “I am told you are also known as Midnight, yes?
Lexi shifted in her seat slightly. “Yes. I am.”
“I thought it odd, when Jiana told me. I was under the impression that Midnight was a man.”
Lexi’s cheeks grew red and she tossed a glance towards Cross, who was suddenly very interested in the wine inside his glass.
“Yes. The guild felt it would be helpful if my identity was kept… vague. I would not go so far as to call it secret but still…”
“A wise move. I’m sure Jiana had a hand in it.” Mia nodded. “You are also the most recent winner of the Dance of Blades.”
 “Yes.”
“Wonderful tournament. I hope to attend again in the future. Tomo actually wished to participate this year, but unfortunately was not able to.”
“Probably for the best.” Cross spoke the words mostly to himself, but he still drew Mia’s eye.
“I also heard rumors that a Tenchi user participated this year. You wouldn’t happen to know anything about that, would you Cross?”
Cross choked on his wine. Coughing hastily he shook his head. “Not particularly, no.”
Makina tilted her head to the side. “But that was you.”
Banksy and Romeo both fought to contain a snicker as Cross grew pale, his eyes quickly flicking to Mia then returning down to the table.
“So, Cross,” Mia placed her wine glass down and leaned towards him. “Did you win?”
Cross did not look up. “Not… Exactly.”
 “Did you lose focus?”
 “I… I wouldn’t say that I lost focus so much that I…”
“His opponent kissed him, he let her go even though he had a sure win, then she stabbed him.” Makina said plainly as she reached across the table and snagged a sweet bun. “It was very pathetic to watch.” She spoke through a mouthful of food.
“I see.” Mia stared at Cross for a long time. “Well, was she at least pretty?”
Cross sighed as Banksy and Romeo broke down into outright laughter.
 xXx
Misa arrived shortly after dinner concluded. She declined the offered leftovers, apparently having found her own food somewhere along the way. After fielding a small amount of questions from a somewhat inebriated Mia, the party had made their way to a building just outside of the temple.
“The temple has long hosted guests,” Mia explained as they walked, one of her arms around Cross’s shoulder for support. “This inn is almost as old as the temple itself. We are in the process of finishing up the renovations, but we have opened some of the room. The hot springs are also open for use. I highly recommend them. I actually think I will head their myself.”
Mia pushed off from Cross and gave them a cheery wave. Cross cleared his throat. “Master.”
Mia glanced back at him, her eyes narrowing slightly. “Master?”
 Cross grimaced slightly. “…Auntie.”
 Mia’s smile returned. “Yes?”
  “Our rooms?”
“Oh yes, yes, yes.” Mia reached into her robes and produced three keys. She pushed them into Cross’s hand. “Three of our best rooms. Balconies overlooking the beach and away from the workers.”
“Three…” Cross looked down at the keys. He opened his mouth to say something, but Mia was already long gone. Silently he handed the keys over to Lexi.
Lexi held up the keys. “Alright, we have three rooms. That means someone is going to get a room to themselves.”
“Why?” Misa asked, her eyes quickly scanning the group. “Myself, Cross, You, Makina, Banksy, and Romeo. Two in each room would be sufficient.”
“Well, Yes,” Lexi said slowly. “But there are three men and tree women, you see.”
 Misa nodded. “Yes?”
Lexi Looked at Cross for help but he had suddenly found the sky to be very interesting. “You see, Misa… It’s not proper for men and women to sleep together in the same room…
Misa’s head tilted. “Human men and women do not share rooms? I was under the impression that they did.”
“We share more than rooms,” Romeo whispered to Banksy, only to receive a sharp elbow from the thief who was watching the exchange with rapt interested.
“Well I… They do but… I mean,” Lexi’s cheeks were growing redder by the second. “In our situation it wouldn’t be proper.
“I do not see the problem. I have slept together with Cross many times,” Misa said.
Cross’s head snapped towards Misa almost as fast as the rest of the groups snapped towards him. He stared at her for a long time, mouth opening slightly before he cleared his throat and grabbed one of the keys from Lexi’s hand. “Right, then. So uh, me and Banksy will stay in a room together. You three girls can take a room, and we’ll let Romeo have the room to himself.”
“Hey wait! That’s not fair,” said Banksy. “Why does Romeo get his own room?”
“Do you really want to be in the room again when Romeo brings someone back?” Cross said, pointedly ignoring both the rapidly dropping temperature and the unsettling flickering of the lights. “Everyone good? Good. Let’s go.”
Without another word Cross grabbed his bag and quickly made his way off. After a moment of grumbling Banksy followed after him. Lexi’s hand came up to stop him, but in that one distracted moment she felt a strange feeling on her hand. Her eyes snapped down just in time to see the second key suddenly spark before flying towards Romeo. He caught it with a deft hand. With a cheeky grin he ran off before anyone could stop him, the key held high above his head.
 “Everything is turning up Lovejoy!”
“I really do hate that idiot. More than the other two idiots, I mean. He is probably the biggest idiot of all the idiots in all the world.” Makina sniffed.
Neither Lexi or Misa was entirely sure which idiot she meant.
“Well then,” Lexi cleared her throat. “I suppose we will be sharing a room.”
“I do not mind.” Misa said. “I am fine sleeping with both of you.”
Lexi opened and closed her mouth, a question on the tip of her tongue, but she wasn’t quite able to vocalize it. Finally she shook her head and slumped her shoulders. “It has been a long day. Perhaps it would simply be best if we were to call it an early night.”
“Speak for yourself, I am not the least bit tired!” Makina declared through a very compelling yawn. “Furthermore, I still do not see why I did not get a room to myself.”
Lexi smiled, reaching out and gently rubbing Makina’s head. “Don’t fret, Maki. Sleepovers are fun.”
Makina let out a huff but nodded never the less.
