"why not join me instead?" akechi's "invitation" in conf 7
People come and go on whether this question of Akechi's is genuine or not. Opinions run the gamut from "I hate him for trying to take you away from your friends" to "Akechi wants Joker to be his accomplice".
Myself, I don't think Akechi means this as a serious question, for a number of reasons. I think this question is rhetorical.
Quick summary:
Conf 7 illustrates the similarity between Joker and Akechi, and that they're both committed to the showdown between them;
Rather than being an invitation, Akechi's question again illustrates that parallel—that neither of them will give up the things that matter to them to join the other, as Joker has asked him to do;
"I'll think about it" does not count towards the third awakening—and I can prove it. Rather, Akechi can't conceive that Joker would ever abandon his friends, and uses it as an outrageous example of something Joker would never do;
Joker's loyalty not only to his principles but to his friends is something Akechi values so much that he won't let Joker sacrifice it;
Akechi is not so much offering Joker a way out in conf 7 (there is no way out) as he's confirming for his own sake that Joker is still in the game. Is this still a battle between rivals, or is it an execution?
Let's take a look.
what is akechi really asking?
[long post is long]
Look at this line. Look at the question he's posing:
Tumblr media
Akechi いっそ君がこっちに来るってのは?⋯今の仲間を捨ててさ。 isso kimi ga kocchi ni kuru tte no wa?... ima no nakama o sutete sa Why not join me instead...? All you'd have to do is abandon the teammates you have now.
It's very easy to focus on the first half of this question and miss the second. But that second half is the important part, the sting in the tail. The Japanese is a great example of wa building suspense: "Instead, what if you come over to my side, (AND THEN WHAT, AKECHI???????)"
The sentence is left hanging, with the weight of it unspoken (since wa emphasises what comes after it); Akechi is obviously not done speaking. And indeed, when he continues, it's a doozy:
"though, of course, you'd have to dump the friends you have now." (Yes, I think "friends" is often a much better translation of nakama than "teammates", fight me; it's even often translated as "friend" in P5 itself, or indeed, awkwardly, as "teammates and friends".)
Akechi is using the same verb, suteru, that you use for tossing something in the trash; the parallel meaning, "ending a relationship", exists in Japanese too.
Ryuji, Morgana, Ann, Yusuke, Makoto, Futaba, Haru, everything you've all gone through together and everything you've been—Akechi is suggesting you toss them aside like garbage. For him.
Now, I think part of Akechi would very much like Joker to do that. But he also knows better than to expect it. Because he knows Joker so much better than that.
Akechi has seen firsthand how loyal Joker is to his friends—remember on 1/2 how he says he investigated them all? He's seen some of the things Joker will do for them. He expects that blind faith to lead Joker to his death, much as Yaldabaoth does. But he also respects it.
This boy who's never had a friend, who's convinced himself the whole idea is stupid, is still drawn to the loyalty he sees in Joker. Even as he's preparing his own ultimate betrayal, Akechi recognises Joker's commitment to others. He understands treachery is bad, even though he himself is a traitor—just as he understands that murder is bad, and that doesn't stop him, either.
This question of whether or not Joker will betray his friends (and Akechi specifically) comes back on 2/2, of course—and in force.
so why does he ask
Akechi is not proposing that the two of them run off together. He's not asking to see what Joker will say. He doesn't impulsively make the invitation, and then run away when Joker says yes. He is, in fact, not even asking. He poses the idea of Joker abandoning all his friends as a counterexample. It's supposed to be something Joker would never consider, something he will find morally repugnant.
Which is why, if Joker says yes, Akechi is shocked, and essentially tells Joker not to make such stupid spur-of-the-moment decisions. Akechi is making a rhetorical point about what Joker is asking of him.
Remember Joker's statement that leads into Akechi's question:
Tumblr media
Yeah. Joker either suggests that Akechi should give up everything he's doing and everything he believes in (even as Akechi confabulates about what those things really are), or he suggests, with the top option, that he's already done it.
And in return, Akechi says that Joker should join him... and throw away his friends and everything he's working for and everything he believes in, of course.
It's the second response to his question, where Joker turns him down flat, that makes it most obvious that this was what Akechi meant:
Joker それは無理だ sore wa muri da I'm not doing that. No way in hell. Akechi だろうね。 darou ne I thought as much. Akechi 分かるだろ、誰だって今の立場を簡単に捨てられやしないんだよ wakaru daro, dare datte ima no tachiba o kantan ni suterare yashinai n da yo I'm sure you understand. We all have our parts to play, and we can't simply leave those behind.
See what he's saying? ima no tachiba o kantan ni suterare yashinai—"we absolutely must not lightly set aside the positions we hold now".
Incidentally, yes, that's that same verb suteru that he used before, for casting aside or throwing away. Akechi is drawing a parallel between Joker's friends and his own goals—between the things each of them holds most dear, which neither of them will sacrifice, even to save the other. (Assuming you think Akechi would even be down to save Joker—but I do think conf 7 suggests that at this point, he might not be opposed to the possibility. It's just that it doesn't exist.)
the phone call
This parallel returns in the phone call afterwards, if you again tell him that you're rivals:
Tumblr media
It's a little hard to tell from the localisation what Akechi is getting at, so let's take a close look:
Akechi 僕らにはお互い譲れないものがあって、そのためにも負けられない。 bokura ni wa otagai yuzurenai mono ga atte, sono tame ni mo makerarenai [lit. for both of us, these are things we cannot compromise on, and because of those things we cannot suffer losing.] Neither of us can afford to lose, because we fight in service of our principles. It's the same for both of us. Neither of us can afford to lose, because of these principles we won't concede. Akechi ⋯だからこそ、もしも君が自分を曲げたりしたら絶対に赦さないよ。 ... dakara koso, moshi mo kimi ga jibun o megetari shitara zettai ni yurusanai yo [lit. that's exactly why, if you were to warp yourself [that way], I would absolutely never let such a sin (t/n: note the kanji) pass.] And that is precisely why... I cannot allow you to change. ... And that's precisely why, if you betrayed yourself that way... I couldn't allow it. Akechi だって、僕が負けたくないのは『君』なんだから。 datte, boku ga maketakunai no wa "kimi" nan da kara [lit. it's you as you are now who I do not want to lose to.] As you are now, as you think now... I cannot allow you to win over me. The person you are now, with those principles, and that determination—that's the one I won't ever allow to beat me.
Here's my attempt at a translation again, so you can see it all together:
Akechi: It's the same for both of us. Neither of us can afford to lose, because of these things we won't concede. Akechi: ...And that's precisely why, if you betrayed yourself that way... I couldn't allow it. Akechi: The person you are now, with those principles, and that determination—that's the one I won't ever allow to beat me.
It turns out that this phone conversation, that was originally quite mystical-sounding and hard to follow (what were you trying to say, Akechi?) is quite straightforward. It ties into to his original question. "Will I join you, Joker? Well, what if you join me instead? Just throw away all your little friends for my sake? Of course you won't—because we're the same. Both of us have things we can't give up, no matter what—and if you tried to do that, I wouldn't let you, because I value you as you are...."
This parallel between the two of them is what conf 7 is about, from the text message that opens it to the phone call that concludes it:
Tumblr media
It's the same thing again: neither of you can afford to lose, because you're fighting for your principles. The billiard table is the stage for this wider discussion.
The billiard scene, of course, is interesting for another reason—Akechi is giving Joker a chance to back out; he's testing his commitment, and perhaps hinting that he never intended to be quite where he is, either. He states at the outset that he's being indirect, that what he's saying is a metaphor—and then closes that metaphor with a very direct question: "Do you still intend to play this game?"
Akechi それでも君は、このゲームを降りる気はないの? sore demo kimi wa, kono geemu o oriru ki wa nai no? Even then... do you still intend to play this game? But despite all of that, you still won't fold, will you?
The Japanese is even more specific: Akechi asks Joker if he intends to fold—not whether he still wants to play, but whether he means to give up entirely! "This can't be what you expected, so how about it? Will you just give up? Does this mean as much to you as it does to me? Is this a game we both choose to play, or are you just a victim?"
How much of this is Akechi blowing smoke up his own ass?—casting the fact that he's about to murder the boy in front of him in a glowing, romantic light? Pretty much all of it, I'd say. He's dreamed of having a rival, someone to compete with who challenges him, but what he's got is quite a bit more than that.
Again, the rival imagery is what allows Akechi not only to accept this close relationship, but to frame it as a life-or-death contest that only one of them can win. It confirms to him that what Lavenza describes as "a truly unfair game" is actually fair. It's about making Joker's murder seem as much Joker's fault as his own.
but what happens if you say yes?
Despite all of this, you can choose to have Joker consider Akechi's "offer"—to discard Ryuji, Morgana, Ann, Yusuke, Makoto, Futaba and Haru like trash, and assist Akechi instead. It's tempting, I know.
I don't personally get the impression that Akechi likes this response, for a number of reasons. None of the three responses to his offer score confidant points, but there's something else in play: only one of these responses unlocks his third awakening.
Tumblr media
See the F code highlighted in yellow? Only one of these three responses has it. "You're my rival" counts towards the third awakening. Rejecting him, with "I'm not doing that", does not—but more to the point, offering to be with him, with "I'll think about it", also does not!
The issue is confused because a number of us have taken option 1 (or indeed option 2, like me) and still got the third awakening on 2/2. It seems like you need some of the flagged responses, not all of them. But it remains the case that "I'll think about it" does not make Akechi more likely to have his third awakening.
What happens if you take this option?
Joker 考えておく kangaete oku I'll think about it. Akechi へえ、考えてはくれるんだ? hee, kangaete wa kureru n da? Oh? So you'll think about it, at least? What? You mean you'll consider it? Akechi ⋯でも、そういうその場限りの情はやめた方がいい。 ...demo, sou iu sono ba kagiri no jou wa yameta hou ga ii ...But I'd advise you don't say these things without their due consideration. ... Still, it would be better if you didn't trust such fleeting sentiments. Akechi 出来もしない約束はするものじゃないよ。 deki mo shinai yakusoku wa suru mono ja nai yo You shouldn't make promises that you can't keep, anyway. Don't be the sort who promises the earth and walks away.
A few grammar points:
んだ n da on a question demands an explanation; Akechi's question could almost be rendered "Why on earth would you need/want to think about it?"
そういうその場限りの情 sou iu sono ba kagiri no jou—"sentiments that only matter here and now". Essentially, "sentiments that won't last"—or that are makeshift or ad hoc; Joker is making a stupid spur-of-the-moment decision.
yes, 出来もしない約束 deki mo shinai yakusoku translates idiomatically as "promising the earth". The point is not that Joker should not promise; the point is that he shouldn't be the sort of person who promises so much—and then doesn't follow through.
Again, this confidant is all about Akechi's expectations for Joker. It's about the weird belief he has in him, like the belief he has in Shido—that Joker has principles and friends and will stand by them, that those things are important and matter, even if they're diametrically opposed to Akechi's principles and the things he wants.
The fact that they foil each other in this way is a large part of what makes Joker such a worthy opponent for Akechi. So if Joker turns around and says, sure, Akechi, I'll dump all my friends so we can make out?
Akechi does not like that. He thinks better of him!—he loses respect if Joker offers this. Even if that little line about "promising the earth" suggests that, actually, yeah, he would quite like for the two of them to run away together—if only they lived in a world where it was possible.
what about "you're my rival"?
I've discussed this line before, but let's go into it for completeness.
Joker 明智は好敵手だ akechi wa koutekishu da You're my rival. Nah, you're my worthy opponent.
Do you see that Joker names Akechi there? He doesn't just say, "we're worthy opponents", or even "you're my worthy opponent", koutekishu da yo.
No, he picks Akechi out by name, and then tells him exactly what they are to each other. Because wa builds suspense. Akechi wa... (what?! what is he?!) koutekishu da. "I can't run away with you, because I need you to be this to me instead".
And this is the line with the F-code. This is the line that, if you choose it, will build towards Akechi's third awakening—which is centred on his trust in Joker, on the fact that Joker is worthy of that trust.
And how does Akechi respond?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
He's astonished. He did not expect this at all, look:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
On the left, the top screenshot where he's waiting for your answer; in the centre, the moment of shock, where he's pulled away and dropped his hand and his eyes are wide; on the right, a comparative overlay just to demonstrate that he pulled back.
smiles that aren't smiles
I have a half-assed theory that you can tell when Akechi is really smiling—because the model will smile with him. If you watch, for instance, Ryuji, the model's expressions match the sprite's almost exactly. But if you watch Akechi? Nah, not so much.
Here's an example. Akechi appears to smile quite often through conf 7—but if you glance away from the sprite and textbox to the model, the model is pokerfaced. Five smile sprites on the optimal route through conf 7, and not one of them—not even "you truly are fascinating"—matches the model:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
But when you pick "You're my rival"? Suddenly the model's face springs to life:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It's obvious from everything else that this moment is of deep significance to Akechi. But this little detail with the smiles suggests we can confirm it.
and what does he say?
It doesn't take long for him to pull himself together:
Akechi 同意だね、僕らにはなれ合いより対等関係こそふさわしい。 doui da ne, bokura ni wa nareai yori taitouna kankei koso fusawashii I agree. I think a relationship of equals suits us better than being co-conspirators, anyway...
This is another one that I find unclear in the localisation, so let's have at it.
nareai suggests an illicit or unduly-close union. It suggests "being in bed together" in the business sense—cosying up, colluding, conspiring. It suggests they're working together when they shouldn't be. Jisho uses the screamingly-outdated term "common-law marriage" (what we call "living together") as an example. Essentially, it suggests they're too close—or even co-dependent, in a way that corrupts them both.
In short? Akechi's "co-conspirators", nareai, means "accomplices"—what we might call "murder boyfriends".
taitouna kankei—literally, "an equal relationship"—is a set phrase, and we know what it means. It suggests a relationship where nobody is being cheated; where everyone gets out what they put in. Where the two of them compete on equal terms.
That's a very Akechi way to look at relationships. But it's also a relationship where nobody is in charge; nobody is dominant, and everyone has self-respect. Nobody is chasing after anyone or sacrificing unduly, as either would be if they joined the other. Everyone can be who they are and say what they want. Everyone can say no.
It's the sort of relationship Akechi very notably does not have with Shido. Is it the sort of relationship he has with Joker, when the two of them are hiding so much from each other and lying so much, and there's so much, like, murder going on? Nah. But as an aspiration, as a suggestion of the sort of relationship Akechi would like them to have, alongside everything else he's told us about how he sees the two of them—as similar, as equals and opposites, as bound by their principles, as destined to fight—it's almost touching.
and what does joker think?
Akechi ⋯たとえこの先、何があろうともだ。 ...tatoe kono saki, nani ga arou tomo da ...No matter what else may change. ...No matter what might come next. Akechi それだけの事を言ったんだから、逃げないでよ? sore dake no koto o itta n da kara, nigenaide yo? In any case, what you just said carries great weight. Remember what you decided, and don't run from it. All right? [lit. don't run away just because of what [I/you] said, all right?]
I'm not sure about this. It feels like it should be referring back to Akechi's last line—"don't get cold feet and run away just because I alluded ominously to whatever's coming next, okay?". I guess it could be referring to Joker's commitment, with "You're my rival"? IDK, I'm out on this one, so I'm inclined to give the localisation the benefit of the doubt.
But it doesn't matter. Because the significance of what Joker does next doesn't change:
Tumblr media
He nods. Akechi spends the whole confidant hinting that something ominous is coming, and that the two of them are heading to an inevitable confrontation, and Joker nods.
I don't think this is really consistent with interpretations where Joker is a meek little sheep in the interrogation room. Joker might not have chosen this, he might not have wanted it, he might have by far preferred to avoid it. He'd happily back out if Akechi would just drop the whole thing and agree to act sane. But he's committed to it. He agrees to fight.
Remember, conf 7 takes place after Joker hears the murder phone call. He knows what Akechi is. He knows what he's planning. He knows the stakes—and he agrees to play, to face Akechi down.
Tumblr media
To quote @nardaviel, that's no sheep. That's a full-on "Phantom Thieves win again, motherfucker" smirk. Joker played Akechi's game, with everything he had—and he played to win.
#persona 5#p5 meta#japanese language#shuake#goro akechi#ren amamiya#almost the worst part of this is that akechi respecting joker for his loyalty tells you how little he respects himself#also! 'i'll think about it' CANNOT POSSIBLY unlock the third awakening#because the third awakening is *all about trust* and saying yes to akechi proves that you're a traitor#and that 'i won't forgive you if you betray your principles' on the phone? also 2/2. this is exactly what he does if you take the deal#also!! joker makes a third option to akechi's question with 'you're my rival' and this is what astonishes him besides the thing itself#also! (per leonawriter) the maruki deal ending is essentially the nareai relationship#where akira has all the power and akechi..? well#nobody is themself or choosing for themself#also as regards whether akechi is lying he proves himself through action#'i won't let you betray yourself' - he did that already if you tried to take the deal#ALSO? that 'megeru' for 'i won't let you depart from your principles comes back on 2/2#as joker's 'i won't fold'#and ofc it's ALSO akechi's 'you'd fold over...' that precedes that. it was set up in conf 7 if you took the rival route#so tldr it's plausible that 2/2 is as much akechi fighting for his vision of joker as for his right to die. help???#ALSO. did you wonder why it's *awakening* akechi who comes to leblanc? the one closer to you who believes in you more?#this is exactly why. awakening akechi has faith left in you to lose. non-awakening akechi already lost that faith. Polythieves Mug Collection (Part 2)
Last time, on the collection of mugs at the phantom thieves' household: it was very sweet and sappy, with themed choices for their code names.
You can find it here
THIS TIME
It's time for more gifts, memes, being silly, and finding weird mugs
This is absolutely one of Akira's favorites
Tumblr media
Yusuke, meanwhile has this set of mugs
(The coffee goes in the one labeled "paint water" while "not paint water" is, in fact, the paint water)
Tumblr media
Yusuke and Ann both have matching "Hot Chick" mugs, as well
Tumblr media
The thieves love to fight over this one, Akira gives it to whoever has done Hot Girl Shit the most recently. He likes giving it to Sumi, but the others all compete to win it
Tumblr media
Someone outside the polycule mistakes Ryuji for being straight, and soon enough he gets to be the DILF holder. They have 0 children when he gets this mug
Tumblr media
Another popular one! Akira hands it to anyone else with the joke "I've never had anxiety in my life" and then it's promptly that person's turn to smack him for such a bold-faced lie
Tumblr media
Makoto. It's very true.
Tumblr media
A gift for Ryuji, another favorite of his
Tumblr media
Yusuke finds the jug (jean mug) at a qaint roadside market and instantly falls in love with it. He knows exactly what do to with it. He presents it to Futaba.
Futaba (very much a trans girl) goes "Well it would be nice to finally have jugs" and Yusuke completely missed that implication until then
Tumblr media
This one goes to Yusuke. Obviously
Tumblr media
And another for Makoto!
Tumblr media
A joke spiraled out of control ends up with Akira being the sexy senior citizen, after Yusuke jokingly calls him "grandfather" once
Tumblr media
Often given to Haru, or whoever has commited the most recent Women's Wrongs
Tumblr media
Another of Akira's favorites. He lets Morgana steal it sometimes
Tumblr media
It's very important to note that certain mugs can be chosen and used to send messages to other thieves depending on circumstances, for instance:
Dick. Either Akira is mildly pissed at the person, or he's flirting. Potentially both!
Tumblr media
if he is VERY annoyed, they might face this mug
Tumblr media
Though the one with the bee movie script is a good indicator if he's annoyed. Or if the person he's giving it to is Yusuke. Yusuke loves literally every weird mug ever
Tumblr media
When Goro Akechi is around, especially early on after he shows back up, Akira gives him the "Guess I'll die" mug. He might be a little mad about the constant deaths.
Tumblr media
Which, however, is not as bad as THIS ONE, a favorite, that Akira was holding when he encountered Marki one time. He does throw it, it does hurt, it does break on the ground. He's justified
(They get a new one later)
Tumblr media
Morgana also gets Catmander in Chief
Tumblr media
Akira passive-aggressively drinks from this mug when Goro is around
Tumblr media
Shrek mug. No one will admit to buying it and placing it there. (It was Sumi, she's so proud of not being caught yet)
Tumblr media
This one OFTEN goes to Ann
Tumblr media
A VERY fun one for Haru
Tumblr media
They actually get Akira this during that period of time where he's legally dead
Tumblr media
This one is just so funny it has to be there
Tumblr media
Goro gets the Official Left Handers mug
Tumblr media
This one for sure goes to Futaba
Tumblr media
Sometimes you do not question the mug. It says run, you run. It goes to Ryuji
Tumblr media
And Of course, last but CERTAINLY not least,
World's greatest slut.
Tumblr media
(Akira always tries to keep it, but SOME PEOPLE demand their turn)
Most mugs taken from @shiftythrifting or like, the internet at large.
I am at image limit and currently out of mugs to share but if I find more then more may come! If others want to contribute PLEASE do so!

Dang I kinda forgot that you write for Free! as well. But anyway, Makoto Tachibana with a reader who's currently dating a kuudere (not Haru)?
Reader is the typical girl next door, like literally and metaphorically. She's his neighbor and a really nice and dependable one at that, she always happens to make the start of his day off to a good one no matter what kind of stresses are ahead of him that day. Also doesn’t help that she's really cute so naturally he grew to have a crush on her. The only flaw he ever saw in her, is her taste in men. As her boyfriend is always stoic and brutally honest (kinda like Akaashi with Bokuto), it's always frustrating to watch her throw her affections at him, dress cute for him in dates, and see her cling on his arm and he doesn't even try to reciprocate. Menwhile he's in the sidelines thinking to himself and swearing to the heavens that you deserve better. Having question like:
What do you see in him?
Does he even consider you his girlfriend? Does he even love you?
He doesn't even reciprocate your affections and he just insulted you, how could you still want him?
You turned me down...for that?
Ahhh such a great concept! The boyfriend turned more into a jerk than a kuudere, but I tried asdfghjkl.
Title: Treat You Better
Pairings: Tachibana Makoto x Reader
WARNINGS: Yandere themes
Summary: Makoto’s sick of your jerk of a boyfriend.
“'Cause I know I can treat you better than he can
And any girl like you deserves a gentleman
Tell me, why are we wasting time
On all your wasted crying
When you should be with me instead?”
-From “Treat You Better” by Shawn Mendez
You were dressed up again. Pretty flowing dress, just casual enough to pass off as a day outfit. Your makeup was flawless, as usual, and your hair was pulled back into a bun, two locks of hair tastefully spilling down the sides of your face.
You were beautiful. Makoto always thought that, of course, but when you dressed up for Kaito, you always looked ethereal.
Too bad your boyfriend never appreciated it.
You could dress up in a pageant dress and wear heavy makeup and all Kaito would say is “that’s not practical” or something cold like that. That, or he’d ignore your getup entirely. That was just the type of person your boyfriend was.
Makoto took the mail out of the mailbox. It was always so coincidental that he got his mail at the same time his angelic neighbor left for her first college class of the day. You never noticed, so he always used that moment to talk to you.
“Hey, (Y/n), how are you today?” Makoto called out.
You looked up with a smile, “I’m doing well, how are you, Makoto?”
“I’m doing great,” Makoto smiled back, albeit much more fondly.
You hovered at the end of the driveway, waiting for your boyfriend to come pick you up, as always. Makoto pretended to sift through his mail so he could stall for time. He wanted to spend as much time with you as possible.
A blue car tears up the road, squealing to a stop in front of your driveway. Your eyes lit up, hopeful. Kaito rolled down his window and, without missing a beat, said, “Your hair is messy.”
Makoto watched as you jerked in disbelief and then deflated, “It’s supposed to look like that… I thought it’d look pretty.”
“It doesn’t,” Kaito said bluntly, “Now get in, we don’t have time to spare.”
Makoto held his breath, silently begging you to stand up for yourself- to tell Kaito you’d drive yourself because of what a jerk he was.
“I love you,” you said, voice wavering. Kaito didn’t respond, merely staring blankly at you for a moment before saying, “We’re going to be late. Get in.”
You obediently opened the passenger side door and climbed in, tears sparkling in your eyes. Makoto bristled in anger, but kept quiet.
Why didn’t you ever stand up for yourself? Why didn’t you break up with him? Makoto couldn’t understand it.
Why do you say “I love you” to someone who clearly doesn’t love you back?
And yet, when Makoto spied in on you and your boyfriend whenever you were both at your house next door, you clung to him like your life depended on it, kissed him like you desperately needed it, and hugged him tightly as though you might break apart if you didn’t. And how did Kaito respond? He ignored you, didn’t reciprocate, and stood there stiff-armed as you wrapped your arms around him.
What did you see in him?
Hours later, that stupid blue car squealed to a stop outside your house once more. Makoto watched from between the curtains as you got out and waved goodbye to your boyfriend. The minute his car was out of sight, you buried your face in your hands and cried.
Makoto’s heart twisted and he found himself rushing out of his house and over to you. He knew it would look suspicious, but he could explain it away as him noticing you crying when he walked by the window, or something like that.
You wrapped your arms around him and sobbed into his chest, “What am I doing wrong? Why won’t he love me back? He’s my boyfriend but he acts like he can’t stand me!”
“You haven’t done anything wrong,” Makoto soothed you, running a hand through your hair (you had taken down your bun, probably self-conscious about the remark your boyfriend had made), “It’s his fault for acting so cold.”
He pulled back to look at your tear-streaked face and made the suggestion he’d been wanting to make since day one, “You should break up with him. You deserve someone who would treat you better.”
“I can’t!” you protested, “I love him!”
Makoto winced at the words, “It doesn’t seem like a healthy relationship. You’re putting so much more into it than he is.”
You bit your lip, considering his words, “I don’t know. I just… God, I don’t know.”
“I’ll be here for you, no matter what you choose,” Makoto said gently.
The truth was, though, that Makoto couldn’t take much more of this torture. If you chose Kaito, he may just have to kill him.

🎃Whumptober Day 15: Suppressed Suffering (Phantom Thieves x Reader)🎃
Part 1 | Part 2
Tumblr media
Ever since you left the group chat, you had just been avoiding them even more. At first you didn't mind it, but you begin to feel a little bit more lonely. You are not sure why, considering that you had been lonely like this before. Maybe you missed them or it could be something else. You did lose a good amount of friends, but oh well...You can make new ones and it happens from time to time. It ain't new.
Since you don't have anyone to hang out anymore, you decide to do something a little productive. Just to figure out on what they hell to do in the future. You got to be honest, you are a little jealous of your friends. It looks like they already figure out what to do in their lives.
Ren Amamiya, albeit quiet at times and doesn't talk about what to do in his life, is pretty much perfect so it won't be a surprise if he lands a career that he likes and get a good salary.
Ryuji Sakamoto will probably get a career that is sport related.
Ann Takamaki already has a modeling career plus she is very caring, so that will help out as well.
Yusuke Kitagawa's future is self-explanatory. Though, his finances will probably stay the same.
Makoto Niijima is very intelligent, and with the help of her sister she could probably get any job she wants. Maybe she even wants to follow in her sister's footsteps.
Futuba Sakura, while she have troubles socially, is also extremity tech savvy. It won't be a surprise if she decides to work remotely.
Haru Okumura is already wealthy. She could just sit around and do nothing while she gains more wealth. But she isn't like that, she wants to help out with her business by making a small café chain.
And you...well, you are one of the unlucky ones. Maybe not as unlucky as others, but you certainly do wish you have something like your old friends. You are averagely smart, your talent is mediocre compared to others, you are just someone in a middle class. It feels wrong to feel jealous, but you just can't help it. Since your friends did just hang out without you, you do feel like someone who isn't worthy enough to hang out with such extraordinary talents.
But you shouldn't think about that right now. Your parents are kinda pressuring you to think on what to pick your career. You don't want to be a burden to your parents and to society, even though society probably won't care about you, so you decide to do some research on other careers. You had to choose a career carefully, because your parents won't let you change your major if you decide you don't like it. Hopefully the job you got won't give you a death wise and hope that you rather die in a car crash every time you go to work.
...
...Maybe you shouldn't think that. Maybe it would be all right in the end, right?
...
Maybe you should stop thinking positively to avoid disappointment in yourself and in the future.

I've got more P5 as P3 in honour of P3R and the fact that I'm learning more about P3 than what I gathered from PQ so sjdbdj
World Akira wakes up some nights to these angry blonde children who tell him the world is ending but he's special?? Also someone about the moon but they're fighting and yelling and he's tired
(at the end of the post there will be a tldr with all the arcana listed lmao)
I've changed my mind on something. Akane Hasegawa isn't Justice, she's Hanged Man. Wondering why her dad doesn't spend time with her and shit. Why he isn't trying harder to avenge her mom
That leaves an open spot on the team. A young character, who fights, and maybe is good with a gun? My new idea is SEES member Shinya Oda. I think this would work better than Akane in any sense
I haven't chosen a distinct role for Hifumi yet. Maybe Fortune? Instead of Art Club it's Board Games club and it's chess and shogi?
Now let's talk more about our SEES members
Member 0, the Empress Arcana, Makoto Niijima. She's been able to summon her persona since the big accident, the one that put her guardian, her older sister, into a coma. Makoto visits Sae at the hospital a lot, and she's lived in the Iwatodai dorms ever since. She was alone there for a long time, until members 1 and 2 joined her, when they all started middle school
Makoto appears put together to the younger members. She's got her sick ass motorcycle persona, and guides them through Tartarus at the start. Under her help even Ryuji does okay on his exams
But, it's mostly a ruse. She's trying to live "normally" to ensure she has a future but, part of her believes there won't be a future. She's stubborn in her escapism, and it's what led to a falling out between her and member 2. She's still a scared little girl deep down. Luckily, she's got a bond stronger than blood with member 1, though they don't show it around their Juniors. They remain focused on the fight, and seek the other for comfort and physical distraction afterwards
Member 1, the Star Arcana, Haru Okumura. She lost her mother young, due to her father's high status, in some, incident she doesn't talk about much. Even Makoto barely knows about it, and they're as close as can be, soul mates practically. Haru was involved, was there, and her father doesn't talk to or visit her much since she's come to the dorms
Haru needs to be strong, so those around her are safe. When first starting out, Makoto and member 2 had to take hits for her, and she'd cry after, while learning to tend their wounds from Sojiro or Takuto. Now, she's turned that old fear into a drive to slash and hack through every shadow, so her "family" is always safe
When she breaks her rib during that April Full Moon, she's so pissed she's sidelined. She spends the downtime picking through colleges with Makoto, softly talking about their next year. Haru does it for Makoto's sake. When she's high on pain meds in the hospital, she texts Member 2 for the first time in two years. They start meeting up, and Haru tries to convince 2 to come back
Member 2, the Moon Arcana, Ken Amada. He used to smile more, the girls say. Before. He's always been a quiet soul, Sojiro claims. He was the realist, the mature one of the three, always focused on the truth; the world will end, and only they can stop it
That's what his fight with Makoto was about. The middle of their second year, after they've been friends for 6 or so years, he punches her. His grades were low, he was skipping school to train, and she accused him of throwing away his life for the cause. He thinks planning for the future is stupid, when they might not have one. He didn't mean to hit her. She didn't mean to give him that ultimatum.
Ken misses the girls so much. He's got no one else but them. When he comes back, he's putting on a lighter attitude. Joking around with Makoto and Haru, after agreeing with Haru to at least pick a college with them. They're closer to being kids during that time then they ever were, now that the burden is shared a little. But Ken, he still knows there's little chance in their dreams coming true
Okay I went a little too off on them the rest will be shorter
Member 3, the World Arcana, Akira Kurusu. He's the fucking protagonist??
Member 4, the Lovers Arcana, Ann Takamaki.
Member 5, the Temperance Arcana, Yusuke Kitagawa.
Member 6, the Magician Arcana, Ryuji Sakamoto.
Member 7, the High Priestess Arcana, Futaba Sakura.
Member 8, the Aeon Arcana, Goro Akechi.
Member 9, the Strength Arcana, Morgana.
Member 10, the Justice Arcana, Shinya Oda.
I won't list the SEES arcana again but here's some others that aren't shown here!
Kasumi Yoshizawa, aka Maya, is the Hermit
Sumire Yoshizawa is the Chariot
Hifumi Togo is the Fortune
Caroline and Justice are Death
Devil is the same.
Yuuki Mishima is the Emperor
Munehisa Iwai is the Tower
Uh. The Sun. Maybe, Tae Takemi? I haven't done this social link ever in P3 so I'll iron it out later on
Shiho is around, she appears in a lot of the Chariot and Lovers ranks, as well as Emperor
Anyways. I do have more but most is on the senior trio I apologize

I would love see that! Tho I imagine some of the more dangerous ones are more far away. Tho like is villain organization also a part of this? Because I think it be interesting to see how some of them will reaction to how the other run. For example Shigaraki actually give the League of Villains more freedom and does treat them with respect. But someone like Muzan who is a control freak over Twelve Kizuki and willing to kill them off.
It would be interesting to see different teams of antagonists interact with each other. From arguing over their ideologies to trying to defend themselves (if they do at all) with their motives/backstory(s). Not the mentions the fights, like the Twelve Kizuki vs the League of Villains. (i.e. Toga vs Daiki or Dabi vs Doma)
Disclaimer:
However I, at first, tried to bring more than one villain from the same show since not all of these here are real antagonists, but then it would make watching these other shows pointless. And there will end up being more characters to keep track of. So I, and Entity, apologize in advance to all the normal people in this list.
(But whoever picks this up, it's up to them to do just 40 antagonists or pick just a few or more.)
(And remember, ALL of this is also subject to change since this just a bunch of ideas FUNINTHEEYEOFMADNESS and I came up together on the spot.)
🚨 THIS IS ALSO ANYONE'S MINOR SPOILER WARNING JUST IN CASE! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED! 🚨
Title:
The Antagonist’s Role (Some Conventional)
or something else (In the title I’m trying to convey that these people are the antagonist to the protagonist, but some only fill in that role because of convention).
Synopsis:
Spin-off fic, (non-canon), where the Entity is feeling vindictive against the antagonists of the 40's stories, so it makes another dimension kidnaps the antagonists of the 40. It doesn’t want to take those who are innocent, but there will be an imbalance to the universes if it tries to take more than one from the same dimension, (excluding the 40).
Just like MCS (WE), it will be a reaction fic to their respective stories. However, since Entity wants to rub salt into the wound, the antagonist will also be reacting to what is happening with the 40 cast, showing that they are growing, healing, and all around just doing better than they are.
Characters:
Now some characters are obvious, but others are just antagonists by convention:
Cowboy Bebop: Vicious
Avatar: The Last Airbender: Ozai
Legend of Korra: Amon OR Unalaq OR Zaheer OR Kuvira
Ouran Highschool Host Club: Benio "Benibara" Amakusa (Everything about this woman wants to make me pull out my own hair!)
Death Note: Light Yagami
Black Butler: The Undertaker
Hetalia: Belarus (Listen… if RUSSIA is scared of her, then you need to run for the hills!)
Fullmetal Alchemist: Father
Blue Exorcist: Satan
Hunter x Hunter: Hisoka Morrow OR Chrollo Lucilfer OR Meruem
Kuroko’s Basketball: Daiki Aomine OR Seijūrō Akashi OR Makoto Hanamiya
Attack on Titan: Zeke Yeager
Danganronpa: Junko Enoshima
Free!: Rin Matsuoka (I know I shouldn’t do this to him, but he was an antagonist during the beginning.) OR Hiyori Tono (I still hate him for what he said to Haru!)
Kill la Kill: Ragyō Kiryūin
Haikyuu: Oikawa Tooru (I am not dissing him, I love his character! But he was the antagonist to beat.)
Assassination Classroom: The Reaper
Food Wars!: Azami Nakiri
One Punch Man: Garou
Erased: Gaku Yashiro
My Hero Academia: All for One OR Shigaraki
Mob Psycho 100: Toichiro Suzuki
Yuri on Ice: Jean-Jacques Leroy (I don’t hate him, but like some of the others, he is pretty much antagonistic to the cast of YOI.)
Kiss Him, Not Me: Takeru Mitsuboshi
The Disastrous Life of Saiki K: Kusuke Saiki
Miss Kobayashi Dragon Maid: Jida/Jii
The Royal Tutor: Ernst Rosenberg
Kakegurui: Kirari Momobami
Cells at Work: Cancer Cell
The Promised Neverland: Isabella OR Peter Ratri
Love is War: Oko Shinomiya
Fruits Basket: Akito Sohma
Demon Slayer: Muzan
Dr. Stone: The Whyman
Given: Ayano Kasai (I know she is not an antagonist, but she was a little antagonistic.)
Beastars: Melon
Welcome to Demon School Iruma Kun: Ami Kirio OR Baal
Toilet Bound Hanako-kun: Yugi Tsukasa
Jujutsu Kaisen: Sukuna OR Geto
SK8 the Infinity: Ainosuke Shindo/ADAM
Setting:
Instead of a mansion, the Entity makes a prison for them to stay in. There are three levels of the prison:
Level 1: Misplaced
These are characters where they go up against one of the 40/interact with them, but it doesn’t mean they are evil or mean, they just happened to be the antagonists of one of the 40’s stories. They are given actual rooms, their own bathrooms, good meals plus desserts, good clothes, and misc. items to entertain themselves. (Plus their own kitchen, gym, craft room, etc.)
(This will house:
Oikawa Tooru
Jean-Jacques Leroy
Ayano Kasai)
Level 2: Disciplined
It’s almost the same as Level 1 except they are the bad guys of their stories but they actually have shot at redemption. They will have their own room, but only with the bare necessities. They are still served food, but any desserts, misc. items, or any kind of reward will only be given if they actually work to redeem themselves.
(This will house:
Benio "Benibara" Amakusa
Belarus
Daiki Aomine OR Seijūrō Akashi OR Makoto Hanamiya
Rin Matsuoka OR Hiyori Tono
Garou
Takeru Mitsuboshi
Kusuke Saiki
Ernst Rosenberg
Kirari Momobami
Cancer Cell
Isabella (If you choose her)
Oko Shinomiya
The Whyman)
Level 3: DETAIN
There are the worst of the worse, monsters, villains, you name it. They will basically be treated like prisoners for their stay. All of them wear collars that not only block their powers but will shock them if they attempt to do anything remotely evil, violent, etc.
(This will house:
Vicious
Ozai
Amon OR Unalaq OR Zaheer OR Kuvira
Light Yagami
The Undertaker
Father
Satan
Hisoka Morrow OR Chrollo Lucilfer OR Meruem
Zeke Yeager
Junko Enoshima
Ragyō Kiryūin
The Reaper
Azami Nakiri
Gaku Yashiro
All for One OR Shigaraki
Toichiro Suzuki
Jida/Jii
Peter Ratri (If you choose him)
Akito Sohma
Muzan
Melon
Ami Kirio OR Baal
Yugi Tsukasa
Sukuna OR Geto
Ainosuke Shindo/ADAM)
All levels are separated by another floor, with Level 3 in the basement to Level 1 at the top. There is around the clock monitoring thanks to Indigo and they are allowed outside, but Level 3 are the only ones who are scheduled with times and such.
The ground level is where they’ll be viewing what is going on with the 40. And the Entity is much more involved. FUNINTHEEYEOFMADNESS came up with the idea that to the people in Level 1 it would talk to the occupants like an empathic therapist. Level 2 is a no nonsense tough love overseer with the same empathy. And Level 3 is where the Entity will be the jail guard/jester/tormenter, pointing out their flaws, the pyrrhic victories and just rubbing it in. And, for the more arrogant of the prisoners, it will showcase their reality warping abilities to prove a point.
To quote FUNINTHEEYEOFMADNESS, "I would also imagine that for level's 2 and three the entity would make the prisoners do prison chores, but only to prove a point and make them build character. As any real chore can be solved by their reality warping effects."
The prison island would even be surrounded by an Eldritch Abomination to replace the ocean and act as a deterrent to kept them from trying to escape, (not that they could).
Something like this:
Tumblr media
The Eldritch surrounding the island is obviously alive, but it reacts differently to the people coming outside. For Level 1, it will act similar to a puppy and all round just be playful and helpful to them. With Level 2 it will act indifferent, not choosing to intervene but will do so if necessary. But if someone from Level 3 steps outside without permission, it will go into berserk mode.
Ending:
Since this non-canon, it's kind of opened ended, but this what FUNINTHEEYEOFMADNESS and I came up with:
They will all have their memories erased OR only Level 3 will have their memories erased, (to which they will get back when they 💀) while Level 1 and those who redeemed themselves from Level 2 will keep their memories.
As to their connection to the 40, there are two scenarios:
1. Those who kept their memories while contact them when they get the chance and apologizes/helps the MCS (WE) cast with their adventures.
2. Somehow, someway, the 40 finds out what the Cloaked Figure is doing, those who have the unredeemable villains would see this a fitting punishment while those who have antagonists who are still redeemable or who are just antagonists by convention would ask if the Entity is insane. (And might even ask Entity to allow those of Level 1 to come back with them to the mansion and Level 2 once they’ve redeemed themselves.)
Reaction/Interaction Excerpts:
And of course, how can a can this be a reaction fic with some reactions?
To their stories/the 40:
To quote FUNINTHEEYEOFMADNESS again, "I would imagine they would either be downtrodden, guilty or seething in jealously. Another good point, since the 40 story is about hurt and comfort, the characters learning from each other and making themselves feel better, the villainous 40 would be judged by their peers and criticized. This can range from insults, being appalled by each other's actions or just rubbing it in each other in a sense of hypocritical moral superiority."
To each other:
Level 3 would have those arguing who had the better plan, motive, who had the harder protagonist to deal with etc. Basically an ego measuring contest. And the other levels would want to stay far away from them.
Level 2 would have them defending their case on why they did such actions, even though most of them won’t buy it, and some would actually engage in nice conversations. Level 3 would just call them pathetic while Level 1 would attempt to be friendly, as long as Level 2 cooperates.
Level 1 are just confused about why they are there and want to go home. Reactions to each other may vary, but they would be nice and comfort each other while allowing themselves to relax slightly since they are living much more luxuriously then they had been before. Level 3 and the stubborn half of Level 2 would be glaring at them while the redeemable half of Level 2 would be glad that they are in good living conditions.
How they would interact:
Level 3:
Ozai, Satan, Ragyō Kiryūin, Azami Nakiri, Toichiro Suzuki, and Akito Sohma would all be complaining to each other of how their bloodline/family members are such failures and how they would want to exact their revenge for going against them. They still don't get along, but they bond over that.
Light Yagami would keep trying to argue that he is not a villain, that he is a god, and all that nonsense, and it's usually Sukuna OR Geto, who yells at him to shut up and threatens to strangle him, shock collars be damn.
Yugi Tsukasa and Junko, somehow, bond over how much joy it bring them to see others in despair.
ADAM and Hisoka (if you chose him) would share in how they are looking for the most skilled/strongest, but when ADAM learn that Hisoka is a... ADAM would request a restraining order against him.
Amon OR Unalaq OR Zaheer OR Kuvira and Zeke Yeager would indulge in their own ideas of equality and freedom along with their radical methods of how to achieve such goals, (Light wouldn't be in this since he sees them as criminals and not himself, talk about hypocrite.)
With every interaction and banter Undertaker would just be shaking and crying with laughter as he finds all of this to be hilarious.
Level 2:
Benibara, Seijūrō Akashi (if you chose him), Kusuke Saiki, Kirari Momobami, and Oko Shinomiya would all be fighting for the leadership role in the group, and some of them are willing to draw blood to get it. (But it's Isabella, again if you chose her, who assumes the leadership role.)
Kusuke would actually try to study Cancer Cell while Garou would also be demanding to fight him to determine who is the strongest. This resulted in the two being threaten by Cancer Cell on a weekly, to daily, basis to stop.
The Whyman would just watch the humans being stupid.
Level 1:
All three of them get along, even though both Oikawa and JJ has egos the size of a house, (though these two would share in their woes of how they are the best and yet always fall short to someone else), and the three would comfort each other if need be. And JJ, who is the oldest in the group, would unconsciously take up the parental role.
Conclusion:
It the same premise as MCS (WE) except that this centered around the antagonists of the stories and most of them are either getting treated like the scumbags they are or are getting redeemed.
I'm not sure if FUNINTHEEYEOFMADNESS or if anyone else is going to actually write this, but if anyone does, or if they just what to keep bouncing around ideas, I'll happily lend a hand and or ear!

Free! Headcanons
☆Little Haru
Very clingy little baby. He will start crying if Makoto so much has to get up to go to the bathroom or get something to drink. If he's not clinging to his Mama like a koala, his bubba is the next victim of his cuddles. Rin will fuss a bit, telling his Mama about how Haru won't let him go, even if he just has a hold of his arm. But after a few minutes, he doesn't really mind.
He gets panicked and overwhelmed very easy. Haru experiences sensory overload very easily, thus why he needs to always have something to keep him grounded. When in public or somewhere that Haru can't just run off and hide, Makoto has his headphones and phone on hand.
Usually pretty small, less than a year-2, and almost always nonverbal. Makoto kinda has to play a guessing game if Haru needs something, but really doesn't mind. He's very patient with his little ones.
-Haru whimpers a bit, hiding in Mako's shoulder. Makoto's brow furrows. "What's wrong little guppy? Can Mama help?" He asks gently. Haru nods a little, his Mama standing up now. They do a small searching game, Haru getting fussy after the first few misses, but melts back into Makoto's arm when he finally catches his gaze set on a dolphin plushie they bought together at an aquarium. (Rin has a matching shark, and they insisted Mama had an orca)
It's not that he can't go to the bathroom himself, he just hates the big kid potty. The sound and doing gross big kid stuff makes him insist to Mako he should wear diapers. And because Makoto is very over-prepared, he even has ones specifically for swimming and the water.
If all else fails, it's bath time. Bunches of toys and bubbles. He especially likes the little finger paints for the bath. He paints lots of pictures for his mama. He's very calm in the bath, at home in the water.
He carries his dolphin and a pastel blue baby blankie around like his life depends on them. Even while in the bath, Mako isn't allowed to move them off the counter. If they aren't in his line of sight, he starts to panic.
Haru isn't a very social little one. When Nagisa and Rei come over, he doesn't enjoy playing as much as the other little ones do. But that's okay. Makoto doesn't mind holding his little one.
-HARUUU!!! CAN WE PLEEEEASE PLAY BLOCKS!!!" Nagisa jumped a bit, looking up at Haru as he stared down from his safe spot in Mama's arms. Rei stands up a bit, worried his little one may be upsetting Haru who'd just woken up from his nap. But Makoto is quick to handle the situation, not that either of the little ones had done anything wrong. "Hey little guppy, why don't you ask Rin to play when he wakes up from his nap okay? I'm sure he'd love to play. Blocks may be too loud for little Haru. He's a little too tiny to play. I'm sorry bubs." Makoto does the talking for Haru, knowing he would've been too shy himself. Rei sighs in relief, the little penguin returning to his coloring after. "Tha's okay! Un'erstan! Sorry Haru"
☆Little Rin
Somewhere between energetic and clingy. He is perfectly okay playing by himself if he has to, entertaining himself with toys, movies, and coloring easily. He likes to play pretend with his stuffies the most though. He's especially happy when Haru joins in.
-"The dolphin an' sharky are brothers okay! An' they gonna go have a picnic with the mama orca!!!" He looks up hopefully at his Mama. Haru also looked up, holding his bubba's sleeve. His other hand was occupied by his dolphin. Rin sets his shark down for a moment, hugging the little dolphin, putting his chin on his bubba's noggin. They both gave him the puppy eyes. "Of course little guppies!!!"
Rin has to nap everyday or he'll get extra fussy. He doesn't mean it, and on days they can't get Rin to nap or when he can't make it to somewhere to nap one day, he apologizes and kinda has a small meltdown at the end of the day. Makoto will gently hush the sleepy, fussy baby until he stops crying. "All is forgiven little sharky. You just had a rough day didn't you? You poor baby."
He's usually just a little older than Haru unless he's sicky or having an extra bad day. On extra sleepy little days he cuddles with his Mama and bubba. He's alot less energetic, but he's still the bigger brother.
-"Mama uppy!" Rin sniffles, about to cry. He's holding his arms up, Mako looking down a bit nervous as he already has one little one in hand, and he was making dinner. Haru clings to him, whimpering a bit. He looked up at Mako with a very grumpy face, silently telling him he'd better not put him down. "Mama, uppy! Uppy uppy uppy!!!" Rin started to whine now, Makoto now holding his hand and leading him to the living room. Rin started to cry, confused as to why his Mama wasn't picking up. "Nonono baby, shhh...come here little sharky..." Makoto now sat on the couch, patting the other side of his lap for little Rin. The little redhead leaped into his lap, clinging to his Mama and bubba as they waited for the dinner to be done. Makoto may have had to order take out...due to dinner mysteriously burning...
Very rarely uses any of the icky stuff unless he's really just too tiny, or extra sicky. Even then he uses 'the big boy ones' (pullups)
Never fussy in the bath, but definitely a bit more rambunctious than Haru. Lots of splashing and Mama getting sprayed with rubber duckies and other various bath toys. His favorite toys are a little windup shark, a windup boat (he likes to make them battle), and his sharky that shot water out its mouth after you pull and then push its tail. Haru is NOT a fan of the watergun shark.
His favorite comfort items are a sharky themed paci and his plushie shark. He also has a stuffed lion his dad gave him before he died that he's a little embarrassed to carry around.
VERY PLAYFUL BABY
He can get along with just about everyone, but if it comes to playing with Rei he's super duper shy.
-Rei looked up nervously to Mako and Nagisa for help. Nagisa moved to sit next to the two while Makoto helped Haru with his pre-nap bottle. "You two are so shy it's adorable!!!" Nagisa teased for a moment. The two both blushed, turning their heads away. "Alright little guys!!! How about we plaaay..." he looked around for the two little ones' for something to play with. His eyes landed on some toy cars "CARS!!!" he offered as he set the box infront of the two. Rin's eyes lit up at the offer, but he also avoided eye contact again. After some cooing and assurance, Nagisa got the two playing together. Baby steps.
☆Little Nagisa
Probably just as energetic as Rin when little.
Very stimmy little baby.
He teethes on absolutely everything. Rei has to carry teething rings, chewlery, and he carries lots of spare pacis. Nagisa has accidentally chewed through quite a few of them before, and Rei is a very prepared Dada.
Probably the widest age range. He can be nonverbal all the way to around 6
Very sensitive little one. The smallest things get Rei a meltdown to soothe.
-"No- Baby- Please don't cry- Dada's so sorry little penguin, but you can't help Dada pour his coffee little one. It's much too difficult for such a little one like you, I meant no harm sweetheart. You're alright baby boy..."
Any extra protection depends in how old he's feeling in the moment. He likes having pullups even if he's pretty high in his age range atm. (It is super valid to want pullups or diapers for your regression even if you're 'not small enough' or not mentally that little ^^) He usually has diapers if he's extra small.
Doesn't wanna do anything if his dada isn't involved. Or visa versa...if his dada is doing it he wants to help.
-"DADA, I HELP MAKE LUNCH" "DADA, I HELP WITH HOMEWORK" "DADA, WE WATCH MOVIE TOGETHER! HAPPY FEET HAPPY FEET HAPPY FEET!"
Very comfy with Build-A-Bear and Squishmallows. His favorite baby blankie is a blanket that Rei made just for him. He secretly likes knitting bc hush... he spent weeks on it, starting over a few times so it was absolutely perfect
Very good with other little ones and hardly ever fussy.
☆Little Rei☆ (Just hear me out-)
Very very quiet and very very shy when little.
Likes keeping his regression private. It took him forever just to open up to Nagisa about it. Nagisa was more than happy to help him de-stress. Only is little with other little ones when they're at the pool or when Nagisa just absolutely insists they go see the other three. Sometimes they kind of have to if they're both little. They're not very good at caring for themselves, but somehow Makoto can watch all four of them. He's like a super mama.
A little bit on the older side, but very reclusive and quiet. Not because he doesn't wanna be younger, but he's too full of pride to slip down that small. When he does though, it take a while for him to get out of the regression. Sometimes even a few days.
He prefers calmer, quieter activities like coloring and building with Legos.
It takes alot for him to cry... (not bc he's not upset, but instead of crying he just desperately tries to choke it down)
Sometimes he feels out of place when the other four are having comfy time. He knows he's the newest member to their friend group, and feels like he shouldn't be allowed in during such a vulnerable activity. But Nagisa and Makoto always make him feel safe and at home. Haru and Rin are a little less helpful, but they do their part.
The rarest little one to see with any sort of protection ever, only ever using pullups if he absolutely feels too sicky or too small
He gets very embarrassed and nervous about being little, especially since he's so tall and usually so tough and uptight.
-"B-But...Nini- NAGISA" Rei looks flushed, avoiding eye contact. "Too big too be a little one..." Nagisa quickly shakes his head, hugging the baby boy and handing him a manta ray stuffie. "Itty bitty ray! Just because you're in a big boy body doesn't make you any less little! Silly boy!" He says happily, snuggling the baby boy close. Rei melted, quietly sniffling as he snuggled his Nini.
A VERY dramatic baby
-"My little ray of sunshine, it's just a small spill okay? Nini can wipe it up!" Nagisa assured. "Noooooo! New shirt! Is all icky!"
Requires lots of reassurance and coaxing into using any of his little gear. Even more to get him to play or watch little shows, even when it's obvious he wants to.
(Also...just wanna throw this out there. Haru and Rin sometimes act as a caregiver for the other if Makoto is busy and they're able to be big. If not, Rin is a very good big brother for Haru. Aaand Nagisa and Rei do infact take turns being the big kid and the little one depending on how they feel that day. Very very rarely, Makoto finds himself babysitting all four of them, Nagisa and Rin usually act as his little helpers)

Uh I guess I’ll put my final thoughts on tactica here.
Main Story
This had a lot of potential that I feel was missed. I liked Toshiro as a character, and seeing how the game was setting itself up to be his palace, and the consistent chiding from other characters about his crimes, I was really excited about the idea of the phantom thieves getting to know, relate to, and sympathize with someone they would have to steal the heart of and trying to figure out how with him. The game sort of took the opposite direction of that by having Toshiro do nothing wrong in his life though.
I was pretty excited when his shadow was revealed thinking ‘Wow, maybe they’ll pull a Persona 4 and he’ll have to accept the worst parts of himself to heal!’ But they took the lazy route of having his shadow just be a fake.
Erina also I feel was just reduced to being there to develop Toshiro. Don’t get me wrong, I love her, and Toshieri is extremely cute, but she’s pretty much just there to be a love interest. Both of these characters had so much potential that went wasted.
I think the thieves were mostly just their flanderized selves. They blended into the background but there was nothing too egregious. In particular, I’m glad there was no mention of the police from Makoto, and she gets to be the cool, slightly scary, and passionate senpai she was meant to be. I also like how they had Haru explain some sort of redeeming qualities her dad had, so we can see why she misses him a bit more. I still don’t like how the game lets him off the hook so much though. Let Haru realize her dad was a piece of shit 2023. And they sexualize Ann and have her be harrassed way less which is a god sent. In particular there seems to be an attempt of sorts to sand away some of the #problematic aspects of the original which is always welcome. The Ryuji wedding put a smile on my face.
Also Samael was just Yaldabaoth for a third time. It’s become comedic how many times the phantom thieves have killed/defeated Gods at this point.
One last thing: Toshiro deserved a phantom thief outfit. I’m very dissapointed they did not give that man a fruity little costume to wear.
DLC
So I maaaaaay be biased because I love Akechi and Sumire, but I liked this one way more.
Seeing these three actually get to have a full adventure together instead of the pittance we have in Royal, I felt like I was feasting like a king (no pun intended). Sumires idealism clashing with Akechi’s realism, and Akechi willing to go along if she gives him enough puppy dog eyes, her admiring his strength while he admires her kindness, is the perfect dynamic for them.
And it’s also nice seeing some softer moments from Akechi here. It’d be easy to argue that this is part of the mask, but you can really see in this game how despite his reservations, he really does come to feel for Luca and Guernica which makes sense considering his own roots match up with theirs. Honestly he probably sees a lot of himself in Guernica, as a person unable to change anything and filled with rage, driven to do horrible things by a manipulator… yeah that might hit a bit too close to home.
Sumire also feeling internalized guilt about Kasumi with Guernica and Lucas conflict is. Aaaaaugh… she’s so upset about how she and Kasumi grew apart, and she’s upset at Guernica for saying she doesn’t need her sister because she’s mad at HERSELF, but she doesn’t know it’s herself so she’s projecting it onto Guernica. Ooooh that’s so cool.
Also I liked having all the options to mess with Akechi during the story. All his thinly veiled anger moments were such a blessing.
Guernica and Luca were such good characters too. They were definitely a lot more simple in backstory than Toshiro but I think that’s for the best. Guernica has a cool design, a good backstory, and her helping out in the final boss and bonding with the PTs is a good way to endear us to her, and it’s even a little sweet how she counts Sumire and Akechi as the PTs who saved her. They aren’t ‘true’ phantom thieves, but they still helped make a persons life better, and for Akechi who wanted to be a hero, and Sumire who thought she’d never measure up to Kasumi, having them be able to save someone and make their life better is a heartwarming conclusion.
Also Jerri is just Samael again, but she gets points for being camp and slay.
Im a bit upset the trio gained collective amnesia after the story, but it makes sense that this had to happen for the sake of not having inconsistencies with Royals story. But also… CMAAAAAAAHN.
Gameplay and Graphics
I don’t usually like tactical games because I’m dumb as hell. I’m speaking as someone who really loves fire emblem awakening, I often do NOT play these games for the gameplay.
All that said, I had so much fun with the gameplay of this game. The way persona mechanics combine with a tactical rpg is so surprisingly fun. Trying to rack up ‘one more’s to travel across the board is so much fun, landing a big hit is extremely satisfying, it is SO MUCH FUN to walk up to an enemy and smack them out of their cover, and it’s so cool to land an all out attack on as many enemies as possible, it’s so much fun and I went out of my way to get every award and do every quest.
I also liked having every member of the party able to equip any persona. It helps with builds of characters, and from a story perspective it makes Joker less of a ‘special boy who’s the narratives favorite.’
I also LOVED the more steampunk aesthetic of the velvet room. The fusion animations were adorable, and if we’re moving onto art, this is the first time Lavenzas design really clicked for me. In the og artstyle I think Lavenzas design isn’t really memorable compared to Caroline and Justine, but she looks really cute here! The chibi artstyle is very cute and simple, but you can tell how much effort went into it from how the animated cutscenes with the models look just as good as the 2D animated scenes. That’s genuinely impressive and points to a lot of effort in the models!
So all in all, I think the game had a lot of missed potential but I’m glad I played it if just for the DLC.

Hi kudo! Thank you so much for your hard work on free! Final stroke 2 subs, thank you!!! I'm so in love with Free! that I already miss them! Fortunately, there is its fandom 😌 it feels less sad! I really love this movie, maybe it's the best... but there is something i didn't understand, really... those 10 min at the end! can you tell me what you think about the all Hungary thing??? Haru, Makoto, Rin are there. Nobody knows about the presence of the other in that country, everyone is so surprised, right? I mean... All free! story is about friendship and love, and after all the medal stuff, they are kind of living separately... Rin and Haru at the train line is so ROMANTIC, I love that part, but: don't you want to know how the dream turns out?, I MEAN, they are kinda going to kiss in a casual meeting in Hungary??? Thank you!
It's really not explained but what I think is going on is that Haru and Rin are in Hungary to train for the Athens tournament. Why Hungary?? I have no idea.
Makoto knows they're both there and went to find Haru.
Did Haru know they were coming? Maybe... it's unclear.
Rin seems to be there because of Haru.
Nitori is there because he's an exchange student there and seems to be unrelated to everything else that's going on lol.
The only thing they really explained in the staff talks about it was that they wanted Haru and Makoto and Rin and Nitori pairs so they had the same pairs as season 1.
(Also yes I think they should kiss :p)

── 𝐍𝐀𝐍𝐀𝐒𝐄 𝐇𝐀𝐑𝐔𝐊𝐀.
he's a lurker.
he has an account, but doesn't post on it much
mostly just scrolls through and likes or favourites videos
never comments
but when he does post
it's sometimes beach ambience
or honestly
it's him cooking mackerel into different dishes
so he teaches the world the glories of mackerel
though, once he did a swimming tiktok
and everyone started thirsting for him
that was the moment he realised he'd made a mistake
even then
everyone is just thirsting for his hands??
he'll be cooking
all you can see is his hands
and people are still after him-
── 𝐓𝐀𝐂𝐇𝐈𝐁𝐀𝐍𝐀 𝐌𝐀𝐊𝐎𝐓𝐎.
he's recording cats
no doubt
always posting tiktoks about the white cat in his neighbourhood
otherwise, he's trying to join in on the trends
and sometimes it fails
but sometimes
it works
and it works WELL
the ring light trend
and sometimes he does words of affirmation
if you're having a bad day
HERE HE COMES WITH THE
'it's ok to feel sad, you're valid and we love you :))'
and it's so wholesome
i imagine he tries to do the dancing trends as well
but for the most part, he's your cat content provider
and we live for that, honestly
── 𝐑𝐘𝐔𝐆𝐀𝐙𝐀𝐊𝐈 𝐑𝐄𝐈.
troom troom better watch out
rei is coming through with the hacks
that actually work
but he's also an education man like hank green
also updating people on the world as it happens
but mostly teaching them maths hacks
like how to calculate percentage really fast
OR
he's teaching you real life things
like how to pay your bills
because school doesn't do it
so he said
'fine, i'll do it myself'
sometimes he will teach you how to make cool things for projects
he's also on booktok
and he's probably accidentally crossed over to smuttok
he's been scarred for life.
── 𝐇𝐀𝐙𝐔𝐊𝐈 𝐍𝐀𝐆𝐈𝐒𝐀.
is he even on any side of tiktok??
he's so chaotic that he's on all sides of tiktok
once, he was on furrytok
the next day he was on some dream smp lore
and now he’s on gymtok.
as for his upload schedule
there isn’t one
he probably attempts to do tiktok dances but fails
especially about damn time
he can’t for the life of him do the helicopter part
if not, he takes random videos of things
probably takes really choppy videos of swim club shit
and for sure makes multiple versions of the same sound so he can reach a wide audience
nagisa has definitely done the virginity corner tiktok
i also imagine he’d be super active for a day and then dip for the next 3 months
OH YEAH
he was there when it was musical.ly-
── 𝐌𝐀𝐓𝐒𝐔𝐎𝐊𝐀 𝐑𝐈𝐍.
thirst traps incoming
he’s done fitness things as well
educational diet thingss
also many versions of the ‘6 feet tall and super strong’ trend
he probably does some spicy content every now and then as well
other than that, it’ll probably be australian travel stuff
has made multiple posts dedicated to the meat pie
and the mcdonald’s hash browns
also has reacted to others eating vegemite with absolute disgust because they put too much on
other than that, he’s probably got some feminist stuff on there
100% stitched the clip of the guy saying a girl having an instagram counts as cheating
it was just him staring at the screen like ._. and then >:((
also also
body positivity man
will always be there to tell people they’re beautiful etc
and if you say otherwise
he’s gonna hunt you down

Hi! Do you think the tracksuit Goro wears, when they all meet up at school, belongs to Ren or was there another way he got it somehow?
This one's just a little bit complicated. In this 1/11 meeting, all the Shujin kids are in their ordinary winter uniforms, while all three visitors are in school tracksuits.
who's wearing what
First of all, unless they did something weird like buying tracksuits, or unless Makoto liberated them from school stores, we can probably guess who lent what to whom:
Futaba is probably wearing Haru's tracksuit, since Haru is the second-smallest;
Ryuji p...robably lent Yusuke his tracksuit;
Which leaves only Ren to lend a tracksuit to Akechi.
You could reverse those last two, of course—maybe Ren offers Yusuke his tracksuit, and Ryuji reluctantly steps up. He is quite aggressive about including Akechi, as a rule—"And you? Sound good?" @minkhollow42 also points out that as a former track team member, Ryuji might have multiple tracksuits.
So it depends which you like. Personally, I like the callback to conf 3 we get, if Akechi is wearing Ren's clothes.
who invited akechi
On 1/10, after Lavenza's phone call, Makoto says she'll figure out "how to get Yusuke and Futaba into the school". Someone's missing, huh? And yet there Akechi is, all the same. So there are a few possibilities:
Makoto remembered him, invited him, and arranged a tracksuit for him. (not out of the question)
Ren invited him. and slipped him his tracksuit between the 1/10 and 1/11 scenes.
One of the other PTs invited him, and arranged for him to borrow Ren's tracksuit.
After Akechi was invited, he arranged his own tracksuit. We can probably rule this one out.
While I like the idea of Ren inviting him, I also like the idea that Makoto had an attack of conscience—it would be like her. But honestly, I don't think either of these two options are my favourite.
Take a look at Akechi's line of sight, as he says "I didn't think you'd invite me":
Tumblr media
Where's he looking? Across the room, at Haru and Futaba. Is it just a side-effect of the model's position? Possibly, but then Haru is the first to reply to him, as if he was addressing her directly. He's also turned just a little away from camera (towards the chair where Lavenza will appear), making it look as if he's facing Haru rather than Futaba. From a dev perspective, Akechi, Haru and Futaba have been placed so that they visually confront each other.
After the 1/10 discussion where Haru and Futaba have their veto on Akechi joining the team, it seems unlikely Akechi would ever have been invited without their being asked. So something went on behind the scenes, which resulted in Akechi being there in that tracksuit (which, yes, is probably Ren's).
wheels within wheels
Also, in case you ever wondered how much Akechi knows about the Velvet Room... notice how he's the only one seriously startled when Lavenza appears, with his little ?! there:
Tumblr media
He's the only one who hasn't met Lavenza, of course. But he also reacts before he sees her—as if he doesn't have a context for anything mysterious and blue.

v1.1 (2023/10/21)—ryuji might have multiple tracksuits.

5/1 Event: Haruka & Makoto’s Pre-Announcement Translation
Several kind people wrote out a gist/bits of the Pre-Announcement by Haruka & Makoto at the 5/1 Special Stage Greeting, so I translated them (they’re linked for reference):
Tattsun said that after discussing it with Zakki, they recorded Haruka & Makoto’s exchange in the Pre-Announcement acting as Haruka & Makoto after the film
First One, shards of notes written by this kind person much later after, so pieces are missing:
M: Ah--, Ah--, mic check, mic check, can they hear properly, I wonder?
There’s snacks from Nagisa and Rei Rei’s Memo: Did you enjoy our snack of sweets? Apparently the two made the blueberry pie H: It looks delicious
[Note: it is later discovered elsewhere these sweets are the ones from the upcoming Hilton event]
There’s also snacks from Rin I forgot Rin’s note, I’m sorry Was it a cake that represents the water surface of the pool....? Stylish, right? They said something like that
M: W-What.......!? The mic’s switch is on!? So that means all of this is being heard at the venue......!?!? Whaaaaaaaaaaa!?!!?!? (here there was seriously a tremendous voice) What do we do, Haru!!! H: Don’t worry (It’s fine?), Makoto.
From here was the proper greeting and important points
H: Everyone, thank you for coming today. The word Free!FS Pt 2 Special Stage Greeting coming out of the two’s mouths grew on me
Normal important point explanation
M: I have an announcement for everyone!
H: The announcement of the Takapon strap present? There’s about 5 left from handing them out at the cultural festival. M: Not that, Haru! ~he said something like that M: We’re going to present a new teaser visual that’s a cutout of our memories, so look forward to it! This illustration is set to show up in goods and entrance bonuses from now on!
M: I wonder if everyone is properly wearing their mask? Please definitely wear your mask during the show!
If I recall, H: Refrain from speaking to the person next to you, and I’d also like you to refrain from cheers and loud voices.
->These two are living in this era after all, then....? -I had this kind of feeling and was weirdly moved
H: People who have COCOA please keep your Bluetooth on <- This hit the most
I think....this was Makoto: We’re going to do our usual yell, so everyone please participate with applause
H: Take your marks... M: Ready? Both: Go! Everyone claps
(She adds in a post script tweet that she forgot to write this)
M: Let’s have fun, Haru! H: Right, Makoto. I’m happy that I could hear their pleasant name call for the first time in a while
Second One, Rough notes of Pre-Announcement
M: Test, Test...I’ve become nervous... H: If you’re nervous, think of the audience as Iwatobi-chans. M: That’s scary in itself. H: We have snacks from Nagisa & Rei, and Rin (likely Hilton sweets)
M-> Reads the message cards attached to the sweets
--
M: I feel like I can do my best! H: The mic’s on. M: Eeeeeeh!? (embarrassed/discomfited) H: We’re going to keep going ~(Here’s the important points)~
--
Wearing a mask during viewing H: Put it on elegantly like Iwatobi-chan’s beak
Moving from your seat M: It’s dark at your feet so be careful, okay <3 Etc. Etc.
Also, someone also mentioned they said, later/afterwards let’s go to Rin’s practice place

Ramble about Haru and Ryuji I wanna hear your thoughts about them, go off! Tell me about best boi
Ohohohoh okay you don't know what you've unleashed Anon!
Well first, they are one of the more unlikely pairs of friends within the Phantom Thieves, it's good for Haru to have someone who helps her let loose and Ryuji benefits from her knowledge of not only school related things, but also gardening as she's more than willing to help our favorite ex-athlete get some veggies in his diet.
Haru's enjoyment of ballet was primarily caused by enjoying villainous roles! Extra so on Myrtha and Odile (and no I'm not just saying that because Swan Lake holds a special place in my heart)
On a different note, her wish to run a cafe isn't from her relationship with Akiren but rather her grandfather's cafe that he run, as she wishes to bring happiness like he used to, as she remembers the joy it caused from the regulars and how much it meant to her father.
She's also super good friends with Yusuke and Ann, who help her catch up on all the teenage and child stuff she missed. She enjoys spending time with them considering Yusuke pushes her way out of her comfort zone but in a good way, and Ann sort of understands the sheltered rich kid life.
Ryuji actually excels in certain areas of school when he bothers trying, which he sadly doesn't most of the time. He's really good with basic biology and all things related to how humans work, just really bad about talking about it in scientific terms.
Despite his ramen habits and enjoyment of instant meals, he's also pretty well versed in nutrition, its another one of those things he never bothers to think about until the Phantom Thievery really picks up.
He's an absolute encyclopedia of all things pirate, he can tell you every historical inaccuracy in Pirates of the Caribbean and then turn around and talk about how good the movies are anyway. He also knows a whole lot about the ships themselves. (As an aside, he totally shocked Makoto by knowing about Theseus' paradox)
I hope those satiate your hunger for my thoughts Anon! I really enjoy talking about these two and am trying not to make this post a mile long!

In p5 strikers the first few jails are all highly tied to specific phantom thieves but then the rest aren't. I wonder why. Were those the characters that didn't get enough screentime? Did the devs run out of time or were forced onto a tight schedule by corporate?
The Shibuya Jail, with Alice Hiiragi foiled Ann's desire to become a model to inspire others. Both were bullied but Alice's dream twisted to controlling her fans.
The Sendai Jail, with Ango Natsume foiled Yusuke's character arc and his pursuit of authentic art.
The Sapporo Jail, with Mariko Hyodo gave needed screentime to Haru and her character arc as it expanded on her background and her feelings about her father.
The Okinawa Jail, with Shuzo Ubukata is where we start breaking the formula established by the previous jails by not being as strongly tied to a Phantom Thief's character arc. Arguably this one was about Sophia's search for identity, Morgana got a couple lines and Ryuuji got to swear finally but it wasn't really like the previous 3.
Makoto got a focus in the Kyoto Jail. Not so much in the Jail itself so much as the section before it with Akane. Like Akane she only had her father who was often not home, working as a law enforcement officer. The both have complicated feelings about their fathers, proud of them pursuing justice but also missing that they weren't around more. Makoto's the one that's able to get Akane to open up to the group and reconsider her views of her father.
The Osaka Jail, with Akira Konoe as its Monarch foiled Joker or perhaps the Phantom Thieves as a whole. Its pointed out that Konoe and the Phantom Thieves share both a goal (protecting the weak and pursuing justice) and a method (metaverse enabled changing of hearts).
Morgana, Ryuji, Futaba, and Joker do not get dedicated Jails that focus on their character arcs.
