Pokemon Scarlet/Violet - Voice Actor Headcanons.
Tumblr media
So here’s the latest update of this little series on my blog where I assign official voice actors to characters that don’t have them. I also did this with the previous title, Legends: Arceus.
I have to reiterate the same points every time, but it’s just so we’re all aware -
This is NOT CANON. These are HEADCANONS and are unofficial. It’s just a hypothetical situation. If the characters were voiced, this is who I imagine would voice them.
Every major character in both games is included here, so there are HEAVY SPOILERS for the game’s main storylines. DO NOT READ THIS POST IF YOU HAVE NOT PLAYED THE GAME OR DON’T WANT TO BE SPOILED.
The only character I did not include in this is Jacq. He already has an official VA thanks to the Pokemon Go Gimmighoul Trailer. I don’t know who it is though because they go uncredited.
So without further ado, I hope you enjoy my ideas. Or don’t. Your choice.

I’m watching the Sun and Moon anime again because why not and look at this dumb cuteness
The children are putting on a school play which involves their Pokémon wearing painted cardboard-box costumes of themselves.  Like, they couldn’t just waddle out as plain old Popplio, Litten, Rowlet, et cetera, they’re costumed as Popplio, Litten, Rowlet, et cetera.

Sailor Moon 001!
Favorite character: This is one of those questions I struggle to answer. Just about each and every Sailor Senshi could occupy this spot, and I could write an impassioned argument about why for all of them. These characters mean so much to me for so many reasons, and I just... don’t know where to start, really.
Least Favorite character: Demande lol
5 Favorite ships (canon or non-canon): Haruka/Michiru, Usagi/Mamoru, Rei/Minako, Ami/Makoto, Luna/Artemis
Character I find most attractive: Michiru
Character I would marry: My feelings about those OTPs being OTPs is way too entrenched to ever consider them with anyone else even for this thought exercise lol
Character I would be best friends with: It’s funny, when I started to think about this I realized there is still a part of me that still puts a ~they are older than me~ filter over Haruka and Michiru in particular in this really unapproachable way even though they are teenagers in high school when the series ends, and I am an adult. I guess that’s what happens when something played such a key role in ones childhood, huh? Anyway honestly the only correct answer is Usagi because she would actively befriend me and as we all know Usagi has special befriending people powers.
A random thought: This series was one of the most important stories I had in my childhood. Haruka was the first butch lesbian I was ever introduced to, truly, and the fact that everyone around her thought she was super cool was just.... wow. Even the fact that I was watching the dub as a child couldn’t minimize the impact that had on me. I literally first learned about queer sex from Haruka/Michiru fanfiction. I remember I kept a bookmark in my Mixx manga to easily open to that the panel in Stars of the Outers family sitting down for breakfast, where they are very clearly a FAMILY. Sailor Moon was so damn important to me growing up, it is really hard to properly express how much it means to me.
An unpopular opinion: Look, nothing and I mean NOTHING will ever be as epic as the battle at Sagittarius Zero Star and I have craved nothing more than to see that fight animated ever since I was a child.
my canon OTP: Haruka/Michiru
Non-canon OTP: Rei/Minako is def. canon in at least one retelling of the story (and the manga so lol) so I guess Ami/Makoto is the only one of my OTPs that can go here.
most badass character: Makoto Kino
pairing I am not a fan of: Usagi/Seiya
character I feel the writers screwed up (in one way or another): It really depends on which version of the story we are talking about.
favourite friendship: All of the senshi? Does that count? If not Ami and Usagi’s friendship I suppose.
character I want to adopt or be adopted by: Since I am marveling over the fact that I am an actual adult while they are eternally the same age as they are for the most part drawings (except when they are characters in Sera Myu or PGSM - which is extra odd to consider because I remember being 13/14 when PGSM was actually airing and torrenting the episodes as soon as the fansubs were posted) I guess I would adopt Makoto so she can have an adult type person watching out for her. Let’s Talk #SwordArtOnline Alternative #GunGaleOnline: Squad Jam
This brand new spinoff of Sword Art Online already has one major positive: Kirito is not in this show.
Tumblr media
Aside from that, Sword Art Online Alternative Gun Gale Online starts off on the right foot.
Tumblr media
(No Pun Intended.)
For my review of the Series Premiere, feel free to keep reading. There will be spoilers.
UPDATE (4/20): To clarify my opening line, I have previously written that Kirito is my second-favorite character from the original show. There are sadly anime fans who may not give this show a chance just because it is set in the same universe. I jokingly pointed out that he was not in this show for those who may enjoy the franchise but detest Kirito.
Sword Art Online Alternative Gun Gale Online is based on the 2014 light novel spinoff of the same name. While it is a spinoff of Sword Art Online, original series author Reki Karahawa had no involvement with the story. This anime adaptation is also not being animated by A-1 Pictures, the studio that has worked on every other adaptation of the franchise. Gun Gale Online is instead animated by 3Hz, a studio that has only worked on a handful of shows such as Celestial Method and Dimension W.
Tumblr media
The only major connections to the overall franchise are the titular setting from Sword Art Online II and artist Eir Aoi. She has previously sung two of the original show’s many opening themes and additionally sings this show’s opening theme titled “Ryusei”.
After the episode quickly recaps Sword Art Online and reintroduces Gun Gale Online, we are introduced to the show’s main protagonists LLENN and M. The former is first shown to be a little girl who notably wears pink and uses a pink gun, while the latter is shown to be a giant who has a very strategic mind. In this episode, the two are taking on several other teams in a Battle Royale match.
Tumblr media
As the first episode of a spinoff to a popular franchise, it was actually great.
Tumblr media
The episode is mostly a slice of life story about playing video games by how it centers around LLENN and M taking on the other teams in the match. It is shown as something normal for the characters in the same way for those who might play similar games such as Call of Duty or Fortnite.
Tumblr media
This episode’s goal was to show how LLENN and M work together and it was successful. M is shown to be a strategist by how he plans out ways to avoid getting attacked by the other teams. LLENN is shown to be somewhat unprepared yet easily able to follow M’s plans to perfection. The residential fight was the best part of the whole episode, especially by how LLENN surprised the soldiers by jumping out of the briefcase.
Tumblr media
As for the ending revealing that LLENN is actually a tall girl named Karen, it seems the show might try to present her real-world conflict being that of her height similar to other anime characters such as Makoto Kino from Sailor Moon.
Tumblr media
The episode’s only flaw was that it could have probably featured a cameo from either Kirito or Sinon to connect the spinoff to its predecessor. While Kirito admittedly could have taken too much attention away from LLENN and M, there were a couple of opportunities that the show could have shown Sinon such as in the introduction or being part of the match.
Tumblr media
As for the opening and closing themes, “Ryusei” is yet another excellent theme by Eir Aoi for the franchise while “To see the future” by LLENN’s voice actor Tomori Kusonoki is really good. Both the opening and closing visuals are reminiscent of the first opening and closing visuals from Sword Art Online II, such as how in the closing LLENN and Karen alternate between one another like Sinon and Shino in the latter.
The first episode of Sword Art Online Alternative Gun Gale Online serves to show the spinoff as being more than just a placeholder for the franchise before the original show returns later this year. It is a great start to what could possibly become a great extension of the franchise.
Tumblr media
The show is currently streaming new episodes Saturdays on both Hulu and Crunchyroll.
Until next time, thank you for reading!

Inktober - (another day) - Makoto Kino. From various reasons I missed last few days so obviously I’m not gonna make it every-day-drawing this year either. Anyway for today my favourite senshi - Makoto Kino (aka Sailor Jupiter). I originally didn’t want to include Sailor Moon fandom in this inktober but then I’ve thought once i included Snufkin, I shouldn’t left Sailor Moon aside (though unlike rereading of moomin books I haven’t actually rewatched any episode of Sailor Moon for ages, yet it’s still deep under my skin as well. (we’re talking here about original anime from 90′s, I didn’t like the look of the reboot and I don’t know manga (though few years ago I bought first volume in Dublin, because I had to :) )).
Anyway back to drawing, it should be the lightning behind her and it’s drawn with silver metallic marker, that’s why two pictures as well, for different look of it.
(I drew Makoto within last year’s inktober as well but I like this one much better)
(ETA: I added another picture taken in the daylight (the one in the middle), I think it’s better)

Takedown of Shitty Sailor Moon Review: Sailor Jupiter appreciation addition
Most of the last part of this review is backpedaling ridic hard in an attempt to appease people preemptively and then making really lazy jokes.
He's really fucking upset about Usagi not being able to tell Mamoru and Tuxedo Mask are the same person huh. Uh, that was kind of mutual hun (and not in the manga, they figured out each others identity immediately). He must have burst a blood vessel reading comics as a kid.
No, Mamoru did not save her in the first episode. He threw a rose, the monster glanced at him and he gave a motivational speech. In the manga it was just a motivational speech. He does save her other times, but it's also kind of important to mention that he gets repeatedly kidnapped and brainwashed and she saves him from that, and he is always pretty much not helpful at all or needs to be saved during the big battles.
(Season 1 final battle: dead, Usagi had to rez him. Season 2: yelled supportive things, to be fair he is incredibly good at that Season 3: stayed home to look after the sick kid Season 4: The bad guys infected him, Usagi went to go defeat them in order to save him
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Hon, it's okay she's used to it by now
Season 5: Dead again, told the person who murdered him the Sailor Senshi would defeat her, Usagi did and rezzed him)
so anyway yes Tuxedo Mask does show up at oppurtune moments every ep as is the formula, but he is also an ace damsel in distress and we all love him for it
Tumblr media
do not worry ur princess will save u
He asks the question why the bad guys don't take their plans outside of Japan. Bc the Moon princess and all the Senshi were reincarnated in Tokyo and Beryl is looking for the Moon Princess. (In the manga it was straight up explained that they had already checked the ENTIRE REST OF THE WORLD bc each minion was assigned to a country. Nephrite had North America, if you're curious)
"Serena monsters are attacking Tokyo!" "but that's ten minutes away" NO IT ISN'T SHE LITERALLY LIVES IN TOKYO  AS A LOT OF CHARACTERS IN ANIME DO B SHE TRANSFORMS TOKYO INTO A FUCKING UTOPIA WHEN SHE GROWS UP IT'S AN IMPORTANT PLOT POINT IF YOU'D GOOGLED...
Also he gets really worked up over the disguise pen "IF SHE CAN TRANSFORM HERSELF INTO ANYTHING WHY DOES SHE NEED A WEAPON"
because...she can't transform herself into literally anything...it's a disguise pen...it's only for...disguises...that is right in the name...could you not think a second before throwing a shitfit?
"The other scouts had all the same character depth as the spice girls. No that's offensive. As Hanson."
I don't even get that joke
...I don't even know how to respond to that other than "citation fucking needed"
what is your actual proof of this? How would you even fucking know if you didn't stick around to watch their characters develop?
Tumblr media
(a lot of the stuff I'm talking about was at least brushed on in the dub, though obviously much more present in the sub)
This is Makoto Kino, Sailor Jupiter. Makoto is tough as shit. She's very tall compared to other girls, and she dresses like "sukeban" gangsters in Japan (originally she was going to be a gang leader who smoked). She's also incredibly strong and good at martial arts. In her introduction, she beats up three grown men at once. She cannot stand bullying and does not take anyone's bullshit. She was kicked out of her old school for beating up bullies and generally people were scared of her. She's a complete badass.
Makoto is also a hopeless romantic who fucking adores girly things, is really good at cooking, gardening and cleaning, and is still kind of heartbroken about her old boyfriend cruelly dumping her (the subtext seems to be he used her "machoness" as an excuse and she sort of fees she'll always be rejected romantically because of that and is trying desperately to disprove that to herself) and looking to replace him. Her life goals are a. to get married young (in the manga it's explained she was orphaned as a young age and desires family as a result. The anime mentions offhand she lives alone but doesn't explain it.) and b. Run a bakery or flower shop. She's a nurturer at heart and is incredibly protective of her friends. She acts like a Mom to the other girls a lot, but she's a "Mama Bear". She is incredibly honest and straightfoward, which causes her to sometimes clash with people who aren't (like Sailor Mars and Sailor Uranus). she's also a complete adorable sweetheart who loves and supports people endlessly.
Makoto explicitly struggles with reconciling her "feminine" side with her "masculine" side. She embodies both at once showing girls explicity they don't have to be either/or, but she gets SO MUCH SHIT over being a tough girl and it's always assumed by other people that she doesn't have feminine interests/isn't feminine. She often hates on herself or tries to accentuate her femininity. Things would be a lot easier if she stoppped showing off her strength and smacking down bullies, but she can't let herself do that because she HATES seeing people pick on weaker than him. Even though it ensures she'll get a lot of shit, she keeps doing it because of her sense of justice.
The other girls are always there to support and accept her when she hates on herself and tell her she's great and it doesn't matter what othr people think.
Tumblr media
(Yes you should ship these two it's a great ship)
As time goes on, she slowly becomes more confident, to the point where she brags about her strength in her battle speeches. There's an episode where she really idolizes Haruka (who is a butch lesbian who wears ties and suits and doesn't give a fuck what you think of her) for being comfortable with herself and not caring what people think and says she wants to grow up to be a wonderful woman like her some day.
After the episode the above gif is from, where a guy takes advantage of her desperation to be loved, she admits she was more in love with the idea of being accepted than him perse. She's still enthiusiastic about finding a boyfriend, but she drops her habit of bringing up the guy who broke her heart whenever she sees a guy and then trying to win said guy over in desperation after this, and in fact never mentions her jerk sempai again (other than indicating a general preference for guys older than her one time). She also really cuts down on her self-hating behavior.
you try to tell me Makoto is not a valuable and complex character AND I WILL FIGHT YOU YOU ARE OBJECTIVELY WRONG. EVERY OTHER GIRL IN SAILOR MOON HAS THIS LEVEL OF CHARACTERIZATION TOO (well maybe not Setsuna in the anime. I'm so sorry hun they shafted you hard). THEY ARE GREAT CHARACTERS. FUCK YOU.

Sailor Moon 90s Dub Names
So some of the name changes in the Sailor Moon DiC dub really baffle me. (Keep in mind I did not watch Sailor Moon as a kid, I was vaguely aware of it's existence, but I never watched a single episode until I was a senor in high school, so I started with the sub and have no nostalgic ties to the DiC/Cloverway dub. However I did read the Mixx version of the manga so I was exposed to the changed names there and later I heard so much about the dub I went and watched a handful of episode out of curiosity)
Lets start with the title character
Usagi – DiC name: Serena – Mixx name: Bunny
Okay Usagi is weird because she actually has two dub names, obviously Serena in the anime, but a lot of people don't seem to know in the first American printing of the manga she was actually called Bunny. Now I don't know which came out first in America the manga or the anime, and I'm too lazy to look it up, but I'm going to guess the manga did just because of this reason. Changing Usagi to Bunny actually isn't too stupid, Anime hadn't quite taken over America yet so a lot of people still got rattled by super foreign names. As I get older I do start to understand localization was the thing in the 90s. Since Bunny is literally what Usagi means I didn't find this too stupid. Plus it shows why Usagi is obsessed with rabbits.
Serena though? I don't think Serena fits the character AT ALL! Not only does it simply sound like it doesn't fit the character, but look at the name meaning: "clear, tranquil, serene" none of those things could be used to describe Usagi. And yes, I know the same could be said for Serenity but Serenity was Usagi's PAST LIFE, not who she is now. I've gone off on what I think of keeping her Princess name the same a few times on this blog so I won't even go there in this post.
Now, in fairness, this one I actually was given an explanation for at a con, at a panel with John Stocker (one of the men who originally helped write the dub script) I asked why they didn't just use the name “Bunny” and he said it had to do with syllables, the mouth movement for “U-sa-gi” matched the mouth movement for “Ser-ren-na” better than “Bun-ny” But since everyone but Rei and Chibiusa use honorifics, I'm calling bullshit on this excuse. (Victoria was also in the running for a dub name, which fits Usagi even less than Serena, but at least the syllable excuse would work for that one.)
Mamoru Chiba– DiC and Mixx name: Darien Shields
I have to admit, I find it hilarious that they do try to capture the name meaning here. Mamoru literally means “Protect”, and so I laugh that they just literally make his last name “Shields”. To be honest, while I find it a kind of boring name, I don't think it contrasts him too terribly much because I kind of find Mamoru to be a boring character. (sorry Mamo) Like I could totally see him as a Darien, that's fine, it's the 90s, whatever. But again, like with Princess Serena, do we really need to make his past life's name “Prince Darien” Seriously? Along with it being lazy. Darien does not sound royal to me, particularly not fantasy/mythology status royal. And Endymion is a great name with a great story behind it! Like why did we have to cut out that mythological tie? In Greek Mythology an astronomer (or shepherd depending on variations) name Endymion fell in love with the goddess of the moon and was cursed by Zeus, that's a great detail that totally gets erased.
Chibiusa (Usagi Small Lady Serenity) – DiC and Mixx name: Rini (No official princess name to my knowledge)
This one totally disproves the syllables excuse because there's no way in hell anyone thought “Chi-Bi-Us-Sa” was the same mouth movement as “Ri-ni” But I suppose this one makes sense since Chibiusa is a nickname for Usagi, Rini is a nickname for Serena. I suppose the name fits her well enough, though I do think in the Black Moon Arc the enemy kept referring to her as “Small Lady” instead of “Rabbit”. Like, okay, whatever, her name isn't Usagi, Rabbit wouldn't make sense. But then at one point the enemies try to trick her by appearing as Neo-Queen Serenity and she calls her Small Lady, and Chibs is all like “My mommy would NEVER call me Small Lady, you're not really her” like, no bitch, that's your name! It's not a title, Usagi was just that corny when she named you. DiC DON'T CUT USAGI'S CORNINESS!
Ami Mizuno – DiC and Mixx name: Amy Anderson – Cloverway: Amy Mizuno
Okay Ami, Rei, Mina, and Michiru I can't criticize too much because they're just the American translation of the Japanese names so I don't really mind, they're spelled different, but so what? But Ami baffles me because she's the only one of the girls with a different last name. Like, why? Seriously, why? Even Usagi's last name stays the same and that's arguably much more Japanese sounding than Mizuno. I mean, don't get me wrong, Anderson's my last name, it's a good last name, but why is she the only one with an American last name? But what makes it even better is Cloverway then changes it back to Mizuno and no one ever mentions it again.
Just for fun I'm also going to point out that “Blue” was in the running for a dub name for her and I think that's the funniest shit ever. “What should we name this character?” “IDK, what's her color scheme?” “Blue.” “Good enough!” I'd actually like to thank the dubbers for sticking with Amy.
Rei Hino – DiC and Mixx name: Raye Hino
Can't say much about Rei. It's spelled weird, I would have gone with Rae, but whatever. Dana was apparently in the running for her, again, glad they decided against changing it.
Makoto Kino – DiC and Mixx name: Lita Kino
I actually think Lita fits Makoto pretty well. Almost just as well as Mako-chan. Sara was also in the running which I also don't think would have been a too terribly bad choice, Lita's less generic though.
Minako Aino – DiC and Mixx name: Mina Aino
Again, same name, just a different variation of it. Artemis even calls her Mina as a nickname in the original so whateves. Carrie was in the running for her which would have been a fucking awful fit, so I'm glad they stayed with Mina.
Haruka – Cloverway name: Amara – Mixx name: Haruka but also sometime Alex
WARNING: Raging hate boner rant coming up!!!!
This is the name that actually got me to write this whole thing!
Out of all the name changes Haruka's pisses me off the most. It's SUCH a bad fit. I don't hate the name Amara itself, I actually think it's kind of pretty, but it does NOT go with this character! You give the most gender androgynous character one of the most feminine names? It doesn't fit. It sounds weird, it doesn't mesh with her personality, it seems weird every time they call her that!
And what's most baffling to me, THEY STILL PLAY THE 'IS SHE A GUY?' GAME! When Usagi and Minako meet her, they still pad after her thinking she's a guy. Haruka is a name that while typically more common for women, is gender neutral. Amara is definitely not. How can you not hear the name “Amara” and not instantly think, “Oh, shit, that's a chick”
Now the Mixx Manga did something weird, because they introduced the character as Alex Haruka, but only for the panel she was introduced in, then she was Haruka exclusively until one panel in the Dream Arc when she's called Alex again, but that's it. So...great proof reading there guys. Honestly Alex should have been her name in the Cloverway dub. Sure it doesn't fit her as well as Haruka does, but it fits a hell of a lot more than Amara. And more importantly it's one of the most gender neutral names ever.
Also her first draft name was Corinn, can't decide if that's better or worse than Amara. Seriourly dub, why didn't you take Alex? Or another gender neutral name? Riley? Sam? Ash? Jess? Skyler? (BTW I totally just googled “gender neutral American names” to give these examples and had to laugh cuz Skyler would have been the best, corniest pun ever)
Michiru – Cloverway name: Michelle
Again this one I have no qualms with because I've seen plenty of animes where the name Michiru and Michelle are used interchangeably depending on the dubber and the VA's accent. Again, same name different language.
Nerissa was supposed to be her dub name, which is fucking stupid, I'm glad they stayed with Michelle.
Setsuna – Cloverway name: Trista
Okay, so this is actually the reason I know all the names that were in the running, because I actually had to look up Setsuna's dub name, not cuz I hadn't seen any episodes of the dub with Setsuna in them, but cuz the name Trista to me is really forgettable. I don't know why, it's just a super forgettable name, Setsuna, more than any of the others, even more than Haruka really, I can't see having any name other than Setsuna (other than Plu of course) though that brings me to a little side tangent. Because Chibiusa doesn't call her “Plu” in the dub, she calls her “Luna P” which, no, I'm sorry, no, just no! Luna P is Chibi's toy, not Pluto, Luna P doesn't even remotely make sense as a nickname for Pluto. Yes she does talk with Pluto using Luna P (which I think is called “the Luna Sphere” in the dub) but that doesn't mean we get to degrade a badass character such as Pluto down to the status of a stuffed floating cat's head. Bad dubbers! Bad!
Also, her almost name was Celia, which again, no, sorry. Setsuna is Setsuna.
Hotaru – Cloverway name: Hotaru – Mixx name: Hotaru, but also Jenny just a couple of times.
Last but not least, my favorite character, Hotaru. Now obviously I can't get mad here because they didn't change her name, but I am really confused as to why. Seriously I still can't figure out why they changed ever other name that sounded too Japanese but this one character. Unlike Rei or Mina, this isn't even one that can be an American name too. Hotaru definitely sounds Japanese. Why does just this one character get to keep her super Japanese sounding name? Absolutely no idea. Like Haruka the Mixx seemed to have wanted to rename her but decided against it and not been very good at telling everyone they decided against it because the name “Jenny” pops up a few times in the Manga, but only after Haruka, Michiru, and Setsuna adopt her so take that as you will. I'm glad they didn't rename her, but if they would have chose to I don't think Jenny would have been a god awful choice

Funimation Updates English Dub Cast Listings For "JUNI TAISEN, Black Clover," "Kino's Journey," "GARO" and More
You know... anime doesn't always introduce everyone in the first episode. Or, sometimes, they're there, but they don't speak yet. Or, there are noteworthy one-off characters in later episodes. Many of Funimation's fall 2017 anime SimulDub announcements didn't announce all the voices with the initial reveals. So, they're gone back and added more of who's who.
See our updated cast lists for our Fall SimulDub season on our blog including JUNI TAISEN, Black Clover, Kino's Journey, GARO, and more! https://t.co/areW3HedNw http://pic.twitter.com/3ntRRG3jyH
