OC HALLOWEEN CHALLENGE 2022 -> Day 12: The Accomplice

AU: Karina has secretly been working with the Darkling the entire time.

The look of pure betrayal rapidly morphing into hatred was enough to make Karina feel a faint stab of guilt at her actions. Probably what hurt the most was the look on Nik’s face - he looked like he was staring at a whole different person. But it needed to be done - her family had caused too much pain and suffering. Things would be better, this time around. The Darkling on the throne was the only way to ensure the safety of Grisha and help bring peace to Ravka.

“The lost Lantsov princess... welcome home.”

The word ‘bastard’ was unsaid but clearly heard by everyone gathered. Karina had long grown used to being referred to as the ‘bastard princess’; she had taken to wearing the nickname like she would a kefta, if she had let her Grisha status been known. 

“Well,” she began, stoutly not looking at Mal and Alina, unable to see the betrayal on their faces, channeling every ounce of her younger brother and childhood at court. “I am very glad to be back in our great country. I have certainly missed it.”

Under her breathe, so low only Nikolai could hear it, she added, “I am going to kill you, Nikki.”

8. Cosmic Love - Florence + the Machine

Really any ship that could become dark. Obviously the first to come to mind is Karina Lantsov and her relationship with Mal, Alina and Aleksander bc Aleksander would LOVE to drag all three into the darkness with him. But also some of my AUs for Eleanor Winters, especially the ones involving Lycan!Chris and alive Wesker (which totally does not turn into Eleanor x Chris x Wesker bc what am I if not predictable). For OCs themselves, likely Ashley Williams and Octavis Octavius. In TLoU P2, Ashley kinda goes off the rails at Joel's death (though I go back and forth between killing him and not). And Octavius, there's the whole anti-heroine Madame Octopus thing.

18. Meet Me in the Woods - Lord Huron

ELEANOR. In fact, I should double check if I've added this to her playlist yet. The lyrics just scream the aftermath of House of the Rising Sun/All Things End. Goes with Ethan to figure what wtf is going on with Mia, gets (unknowingly) killed and turned into a B.O.W, goes through hell, meets and eventually falls in love with Chris only to get betrayed bc of Mother Miranda bullshit... should probably change this to be her them song tbh.

28. Ain't No Grave - Crooked Still

This is on my Ashley Williams playlist and fits her perfectly, because nothing will keep her from her loved ones (Ellie and later Joel). She grew up doing all sorts of questionable things just for Ellie; she's even willing for a good chunk of the journey to throw Joel to infected or groups if it'll buy Ellie time to escape and live.

38. Setting Sun - Lord Huron

Funny, as much as I adore this song, it's hard to apply it to an OC or ship without diving into massive AU territory. The Darkling I can see being like this, but Karina is a Malarklina ship so kinda not at the same time since he considers all three his? Same thing could apply to an AU involving Eleanor x Chris x Wesker or Lyall x Diana or even Luke x Jana. Pretty much add unhinged possessive behavior in a dark au to an oc or ship and you get this song, haha.

48. Fire and the Flood - Vance Joy

Romantically, Eleanor x Chris. Platonically... a lot. Eleanor & Ethan, Ashley & Ellie & Joel, Nelda & Eragon and Nelda & Murtagh.

58. Renegades - X Ambassadors

My Star Wars OCs. And DBH OCs. And havent introduced her yet but my Hunger Games OC, Ada Steelberg. Rebels and resistance in some way? Yeah, this song is for them.

68. Pompeii- Bastille

Eleanor Winters, Sidney and Donna Riley-Weathers, Maureen Prescott, Nelda (to a lesser extent when you factor in events from Murtagh). 'Does it almost feel like nothings changed at all?' And for all of them, in some way, that's true. Eleanor gets dragged back into facing off B.O.W.s in Romania; Sidney, Donna and Maureen all deal with Ghostface and being legacies of og Woodsboro survivors (and as the child of Sidney and Billy in Maureen's case). It's heavily hinted at in Murtagh that there's shaping up to be a new big bad that might have been behind Galbatorix and whatnot in Murtagh, so Nelda is going from one war to another, basically.

78. Seven Devils - Florence + the Machine

Even though it's on my Eleanor playlist, it could also fit Ashley, because of the lengths she's willing to go for the few people she cares about.

88. Gasoline - Halsey

Too many, tbh. Obviously it's added to my Eleanor Winters and Ashley Williams playlists but it also applies to my DBH OCs Fred and Christi bc of the lyrics 'I think there's a flaw in my code' bc you know, they become deviants and all.

98. In Dreams - Ben Howard

I have no idea. Mind immediately goes to Eleanor but also not quite because she does get a happy-ish ending with Chris even though she does lose Ethan. In a way it also kinda reminds me of Ashley. 'I may be troubled but I'm gracious in defeat'; she's okay with who she becomes and what she has to do for Ellie and later Joel. Idk this was honestly hard.

“Did you really think I wouldn’t catch up to you?”

Nikolai had rubbed off on her, because Karina’s first response was, Well, there are three of us and one of you, so yes, I did like our odds. But one of them was currently injured - not fatally, Saints knew the Darkling would never actually kill anything he considered his - but enough that the chances of all of them escaping were very slim. And really, Alina was the only one of them who stood a chance at getting the upper hand in a fight, especially with Mal grasping one of her hands. Karina was far better suited at Healing than Heartrending. 

And the Darkling knew it. The night’s shadows grew darker, answering his call, tendrils licking towards the trio but staying just out of reach. 

Maybe, if it had just been the Darkling, they would have risked it. Alina could certainly hold her own while Karina quickly healed Mal, and Mal’s status as a living amplifier would just help make Alina that much stronger. The Shadow Summoner knew better, however, and from the corner of her eyes Karina could spot different Grisha lurking within the treeline, their kefta’s the only colors in the bleak winter forest. Obviously he had no qualms about using a Heartrender against them as long as it wasn’t fatal - the drying trickle of blood from Mal’s mouth was proof enough. 

They were well and truly caught. If - when - they got out of this situation, Nikolai was going to be intolerable with his ‘I told you so’.

Hello!! It is very nice to meet you. Ooh this is a tough one! The only real stories I've started are Teenage Dream (my Odette Octavius fic) and Of Saints & Bastards (my Karina Lantsov fic). Neither are posted though, haha. Probably the one I would direct people towards first (personally) would be Teenage Dream or its TASm counterpart, Brutal, or All Roads Lead Home (my Charlotte Xavier fic).

Teenage Dream meshes comics and MCU by Odette being Doc Ock's daughter and also having Oscorp and the Osborn's exist and provided I can make it realistic I'm really happy about that! Brutal, takes place after TASM2 where Gwen had left for Europe, Octavia (Odette in that universe) broke up with Harry Osborn because of his obsession with Spider-Man and started to have something with Peter Parker, but ends up paralyzed after being dropped off the clocktower by Harry - Peter catches her enough to stop her from breaking her neck but not enough to save her spine. As a result of TASM!Otto experimenting with AI technology he creates a prototype of the arms similar to his that ends up bonding with Octavia, turning her into the anti-heroine named Madame Octopus, as the AI in hers wasn’t fully developed so a larger part of her is in control compared to Otto’s version of the prototype. Which is really cool and fun to explore, personally, because of how complicated all of her relationships are in that verse.

All Roads Lead Home, my Charlotte Xavier fic, is one I will probably be most proud of, provided I can realistically pull it off. It kind of meshes XCU and MCU together, as if they were never separate ones. Semi-grounded back in New York after a narrow brush with death during her last trip escorting mutants to safety, Charlotte gets to reconnect, truly, with everyone - the X-Men, her brother and dad, even Erik. As a result of being stuck in New York for the time being, Charlotte begins paying more attention to the news as word of the Sokovia Accords starts leaking out as a potential legislation. And she realizes that Wanda and Pietro Maximoff are mutants, in some form, and ends up trying to get in contact with them - especially when she gets it out of Erik that they may or may not be his children. It’s self-indulgent, mostly, but god if I can pull it off... I’d definitely recommend it. Unless you hate Wanda, then none of my fics will be for you - at least, not this nor if I ever write Julia Peneva’s fic. 

Also purely self-indulgent, but Of Saints & Bastards - it’s malarklina x oc and i’m considering trying to rewrite certain parts of the books/show as a result and just... The Darkling running around chasing after Karina, Mal, and Alina to have them by his side just does something to me I can’t help it I’m sorry. Plus, it’ll piss most of the fandom off, so maybe all the toxicity will turn towards my fic instead of other members of the fandom.

But then a familiar face shows up, chasing a living saint and tracker right into her path. And suddenly she finds herself unable to keep running and forced to make a choice: is she more Lantsov or Grisha?

one door closes, another door opens -> shadow & bone | zoyalai x oc The King has been poisoned, her sister is the most likely culprit, and the Darkling has shown his true colors. With nowhere else really to go, Anya Safin joins Zoya - who she would consider a friend, even if the other Grisha wouldn’t - in searching for survivors of Novibrisk, encountering an infuriatingly charming ship captain along the way. 

reckless & wild youth -> detroit: become human | connor x android!oc, oc x android!oc, north x oc Kaitlyn Anderson and Lily Manfred have been roommates and best friends since freshman year of college. Fred, an MC-500 android, is Kaitlyn’s assigned EMS partner. Christi is a WR-400 that escapes Eden Club after almost being destroyed by a client. Lily has always been a huge supporter of android rights and gladly considers Markus her older brother. When the android revolution sparks, they find themselves embroiled in the heart of it.

the girl who shouldn’t exist -> supernatural | chuck shurley x winchester!sister!oc Emily Winchester has always been known as the ‘baby’ of the Winchester family, overprotected by her brothers and father despite being a fairly decent hunter and only a few minutes younger than Sam. Then she finds out that she was never supposed to exist in the first place, that she was basically an experiment by God himself. Who, apparently, is also the same alcoholic prophet she had a summer fling with after her twin brother swan dived into Hell. 

innocence -> red dead redemption 2 | daughter!morgan!oc Beatrice Morgan’s life changed the day a couple men robbed her small cabin for $10 and killed her mother and older brother in the process. Now she moves from place to place with her dad and his outlaw gang, hoping that one day his promise to her comes true: that they’ll be free and settle down somewhere.
