[Özgün Semerci] "A Nightmare on Clawhammer Banjo" : I would not expect someone from Istanbul to lean so hard into the sonic language of a mythological American frontier, but it's so awesome that I am compelled to acknowledge it's accomplishment. [Alfie Ryner] "II" : Listening to it is a lot of fun, although it occasionally takes a bit too much space for my personal preferences, but where else am I gonna get a French diatribe in my ear, featuring sax? [zabutom] "Resolution" : Astounded and overjoyed that my favorite chiptune artist decided to make Idm, it's a dream come true. [Boiled Buzzards] "Salt And Grease" : Great picking, but I'll wanna listen to their much more famous album tonight to see if I should stick with this group for a bit or keep searching. [Malcom Catto] "Popcorn Bubble Fish" : Reminded me quite a bit of Medeski, Martin and Wood at times. [Bobbing] "Year of the Newt" : The natural step forward from "Thank You for Singing to Me," I could see these songs being put on the radio. [Lily Allen] "It's Not Me, It's You" : Fantastic music, with lyrics that vary from extremely vulnerable to outright caustic. [Sevish] "Harmony Hacker" : I'm nostalgic for this album, so therefore it's good.

Heliocentrics The Heliocentrics are an English, London-based musical collective, combining funk, jazz, psych and library influences based around drummer and producer Malcolm Catto,  Bassist Jake Ferguson, Guitarist Adrian Owusu and multi-instrumentalist Jack Yglesias.
They released their debut album, Out There in 2007 on Now-Again Records, followed by collaborations with Ethiopian musician Mulatu Astatke on the album Inspiration Information (2009)] which was awarded that years Gilles Peterson Worldwide Winner Album of the Year award, Lloyd Miller & The Heliocentrics (OST) (2010), and Orlando Julius.
The Heliocentrics appeared on the track “Skullfuckery” on the UK release of the DJ Shadow album The Outsider, which was released in 2006.
In 2013, they released their second full album, 13 Degrees of Reality also on Stones Throw.   The album with Astatke was included in a list of ‘Five Essential Jazz Albums’ chosen by pianist Jamie Cullum in 2013.
In 2017, they released A World of Masks with vocals by Barbora Patkova], as well as The Sunshine Makers OST, the score they wrote for the 2015 British documentary The Sunshine Makers, directed by Cosmo Feilding-Mellen. Both records were released on Soundway Records.(Wikipedia)

Greg Foat - The Dreaming Jewels - ANOTHER new album, this time leading a quartet in a jazz-funk set at Malcolm Catto’s analog studio (Athens of the North)
Recording at Malcom Catto’s analogue studio has been an ambition of Greg’s for a long time, not only for the studio itself but for Malcolm’s skill using this vintage equipment, very few people can achieve such an incredibly big sound. Earlier this year we grabbed the chance to get the full Greg Foat group joined by Binker Golding (Binker and Moses) on Tenor Saxophone, Malcolm Catto on drums and Hugh Harris (The Kooks) on Guitar on the session. Moving to a more rhythmic space, you could call it Jazz funk or Fusion, but labels suck so just listen and appreciate the pure sense of space Malcom achieves with this recording. Instruments float in space, aided by the Vintage EMI desk and a host of valve equipment which has taken Malcolm a lifetime to collect. In amongst the more rhythmic pieces we also have some classic Foat style compositions; ‘Lake Kussharo’ and ‘The Dreaming Jewels’ as emotive and personal as ever, a feeling that can only be expressed and articulated in music. These past few years will no doubt be looked back on with great favour in musical history, with prolific and high quality output in all his various projects this LP is his crowning achievement of 2019. A strong year indeed!

Born in a Dalston basement, Quatermass Seven by Little Barrie & Malcolm Catto could only have been produced in the colourful streets of sprawling London. Driven by the three contributing musicians’ 25-year plus journey through multiple genres and inspirations, what you hear within its seven tracks is the ‘60s British blues explosion colliding with a mid ‘70s Bronx block party; Haight Ashbury acid rock mashed up with Manchester’s summer of love circa ’88; or a prime slice of UK freakbeat broadcast from New York’s jazz underground, emerging kicking and screaming above London city tower blocks. The Spellbinder Project - Spellcheck
Having been endorsed by Andrew Weatherall on his June 2017 NTS radio show, the band were inspired to release this four-track vinyl EP on their own label Big Shanty Records. A heady mix of influences colour The Spellbinder Project sound, with elements of jazz, post punk, psych and funk in the blend. These tracks were produced by Malcom Catto, head instigator of the Heliocentrics and collaborator with DJ Shadow, together with Mike Burnham, who has worked extensively with Little Barrie. The core band of Sean Pereira Summers (guitar), Michael Levison (bass) and Michael Rathbone (drums) are joined live by Lascelle Gordon from Vibration Black Finger on percussion and Chris Williams from Led Bib on saxophone.
