Sam Levinson (and most men w a camera) has no business making media for women & girls bc he never came to the realization teenage girls go through when they're alone in their room. Hayao Miyazaki gets a pass because he gets it.

Just finished watching The Exorcist for the very first time, after hearing the stories for years about the curse of the movie. But the actual curse for me was watching a documentary afterwards detailing how the director manipulated young Linda Blair and basically tortured his cast (especially the women) on set, firing shots randomly to scare them, giving both the main actresses spinal injuries both by being neglectful with equipment (or worse, actively encouraging the stunt men to push them harder) then keeping their screams of pain in the final cut. The real curse to me is these men holding positions of power in our society and being "renowned" and "creating a classic" after abusing women.

Actresses being tortured on the set by male directors is a massive historical and present day scourge of the film and TV industries and it's really SO common when you look into it. like from Kubrick terrorizing Shelley Duvall (and only her) on the set of the shining to Tarantino strangling Diane Kruger until she passed out to Hitchcock replacing fake birds with real birds after Tippi Hedren rejected his advances (in order to scare and physically injure her as a punishment for not fucking him) to James Cameron almost literally drowning Kate Winslet to an actress on GOT being waterboarded ten hrs straight to get like a minute of footage to Brando improvising an unscripted rape scene on the last tango in Paris set with the directors permission that ended up traumatizing Maria Schneider (in fact quite a lot of the gratuitous, graphic rape scenes in film were included for the sadistic pleasure of the male directors at the expense of the actresses).
The list goes on and on and I could seriously talk for ages about how revolting it is that these men still have active careers bc the industry just tolerates it. No piece of art is worth inflicting this disgusting and unnecessary abuse on actresses (and it's ALWAYS the actresses isn't it, never the actors. Hmmm wonder why). We call these men auteurs and geniuses but they're really just pathetic abusive sacks of shit. I want to impale every male director who behaves like this and I want their rotting corpses displayed as a part of the universal studios tour.

Us at the start of Dracula Daily: Jonathan is such a fun and engaging character! I heard adaptions don’t know what to do with him, I wonder why that is?
Jonathan: *is a male survivor of abuse that leaves him with severe symptoms from that trauma that don’t fit with masculine ideals*
Us: …Ah.

really and truly unless it's a discussion about why peggy/steggy fans shouldn't like endgame, at this point idk why people feel the need to continually make the argument about her having a family as if that's the biggest problem about the ending especially when i figure most people are of the belief that it was another timeline or whatever idk what the current consensus on that is in the mcu and i don't care
but what about the fact that it destroyed steve's family? does that not matter because it's not the standard spouse and children but is instead a family he built for himself with sam and nat and bucky? because it's easier to decide steve is a selfish asshole and always has been instead of acknowledging that that storyline did more of a disservice to him than to anyone else? like oh maybe peggy's family was erased and that's horrible but it doesn't matter that steve's family was abandoned in the midst of the kind of trauma he knows very well?
i've said it before but it makes me so sad that so many people just turned on steve and decided a decade of movies don't matter in the face of one shitty desperate attempt of a movie to make him look like a pathetic creep just so they could justify their heterosexual nonsense ending

"Netflix’s Live-Action ‘Avatar’ Series ‘Took Out How Sexist’ Sokka Was in the Original: ‘A Lot of Moments’ in the Animated Show ‘Were Iffy’"
Not a huge fan of this honestly. It was integral to Sokka's character to grow out of that shitty mentality and how it was done was really cool too: Sokka actually had to listen to women and empathise with them, Suki especially and then he even wore her clothes as a symbol of that. I hope they kept the Northern Water Tribe sexism plot at least though I think it was much more powerful when the character we were supposed to spend time with and even LIKE acted sexist. (Also the portrayals of systematic misogyny leave a lot to desire as well)
Girls' first experiences with direct sexism and misogyny usually come from their own family after all especially from their fathers/brothers. Those elements only improved Avatar's story and added more weight to the themes of its fantasy setting.

There is something intrinsically attractive when such a Mr. is focused on his craft. Boris Schipper IS handsome personified. Lordy that profile is some kinda man perfection.
