Here is the sixth collage of my Disney Princess and their iconic items series. I fear that this will also be the last one, as I'm having trouble narrowing down the iconic items of the other princesses. Mulan's is between her hair clip and one of the two swords she held, Rapunzel's is either a lantern, the Sun-Drop flower or Corona's sun crest, Merida's bow is more of an iconic weapon than an item and as for the others I'm drawing a blank. If you would like to see more of these collages or for this collage series to be completed with the rest of the Disney princesses, please share for thoughts on the series itself and what you think that the other items are.

Letting Go - Elsa/Maleficent
A/N: Part 2/4 for this month of @fluffbruary 's monthly prompts.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“Let go.” Elsa’s eyes close as she focuses on the feeling of the power flowing through her, then lets go, barely daring to open her eyes even as she hears Maleficent’s delighted laugh, the pressure of soft lips pressing a kiss to her shoulder convinces her and she beams when she sees the home she’s made them. “Did I really do that?” “Oh yes, my beastie…. Yes you did.” “Beastie?” “My pretty pretty princess.” Maleficent corrects herself softly, kissing Elsa gently. “My beautiful powerful girl.” She means it, every single word. She will never take it back, not now, not ever.

“Diaval! Who’s that?”
“Oh that’s the Princess.”
“Princess what?”
“Princess… hum. I don’t really know her name.”
“She looks… Well, she looks incredible.”
“Does she now? Maybe you should go and ask her name.”
“What would I even say?”
“Hum… What is your name?”
“Yes, that, obviously. But what about after?”
“You could tell her your name.”
“You’re not very helpful at the moment, Diaval.

You know what, I will say it: the Maleficent movie could have been done better in its treatment of the three fairy godmothers. The three fairies in the live action ver are terrible characters, yes. But the three in the 1959 Disney animation are the best.
And looking back as an adult in her 20s, I see that Flora, Fauna and Merryweather are old, loving, badass and flawed. Flawed in a very good way, of course. And each is distinct and funny in their own way. And they love Aurora and was sad when she had to come back to the castle at her 16th birthday. They are clumsy, don’t know how to act or do basic house work (fairies and their wand magic) and they don’t always the best at consulting (because telling their adopted goddaughter that she was adopted and soon to be married to a stranger after she just had a date was not a wise move) but they DO love her.
It’s canon that the three fairies fear Maleficent and even admitted her power was stronger than them but they were willing to enter Maleficent’s dangerous castle for Aurora. If you disagree with me, go watch the movie again. If you watched it and still disagree, then we are not watching the same movie.
The point is that the Maleficent movie could have kept the three fairy godmothers’ personalities (kindness, gentleness,...) and still managed to redeem Maleficent. You can have the three fairies discovered the reason why Maleficent cursed Aurora (her traumatic loss of wings from Stefan) and they can reluctantly team up to save their fairy home from Stefan and save Aurora from the curse.
Because really, must you empower one woman by putting the other women down? To me, that’s just plain bad writing.

My outlandish theory for your OC Fiona is this. ;)
Fiona is actually a Dark Fae, the same kind of faery as Maleficent in the Maleficent movies. There were very few of them left, but after the second movie, they moved to the Moors and lived freely there.
Now, the Moors are a mysterious place. Even Maleficent, who has lived there all her life, who was its defender and protector, did not know all of its secrets. (I'm making that part up.)
What if, in the Moors, there somehow existed a portal to the Isle?
Hidden inside the trunk of a tree or beneath a boulder, patiently waiting, while the people on both sides had no idea - to the Isle's great chagrin, when they found out - that it existed.
And so, one day toddler Fiona was wandering the Moors, got lost, and accidentally slipped through the portal.
Once on the other side, she couldn't get back through, because - she couldn't find it again? Something had covered it? Somehow it had moved? It only worked one way? Something?
So she hid, until Hannah or someone found her hiding behind some junk in an alley or something.
...Yeah, it's pretty unlikely.
Oh! And Maleficent would have recognized Fiona as a fellow Dark Fae from the Moors if she had seen her. She would have treated her well, since she was a faerie like her. Except she never saw her, because Hannah found her first.
Whenever Fiona sees Maleficent, she thinks she looks familiar, somehow. She may have vestigial memories of the Fae in the Moors, but even if she doesn't - Maleficent is a fae like herself. Except what throws Fiona off is the lack of wings.
I love this theory. And you can pretty much consider it canon because I doubt I'd be able to come up with a better explanation for her appearance on the isle other than this.

God. I just realized how many parallels there are between SJ Tucker's "Girl in the Garden" and the movie Maleficent. Someone should make a music video with footage of that movie put to that song.

Sleeping Beauty (1959) turned 65, and it remains still such a beautiful film. It's one of my favourite quintessential fantasy films, and I adore princess Aurora and Maleficent!
