It must have been a trick of the light. Or possibly the alcohol Malika had had so much of throughout the day was messing with her head. Before the woman had reached her to stand before Malika and her stolen cards in a patch of pale moonlight that dripped from dilapidated awnings onto a dirty Ul'dahn alleyway, Malika could have sworn the woman had been older than this. Far older than this. From across the way, against market stalls abandoned by their day time keepers, the woman in the indigo blue and white cloak looked to Malika ancient, as though every step she took in the Keeper’s direction was a miracle and could very well be her last. 

But now standing before her, the woman dropped the hood and she couldn’t have been all that much older than the 22 year old false fortune teller. Her straight, white blond hair in disarray, it fell over her face like a silk curtain. She kept her face down and never pushed her hair back so Malika could never quite see her eyes. Mostly, she saw lips. She would remember those lips because she couldn’t read the emotion on them. They turned up at the corners as though ready to laugh at any moment, but there was a melancholy to their shape that Malika didn’t understand how she could even recognize. 

“Seems Fate has brought another mystery before me,” Malika said with a secret smile of her own. She imagined pushing the woman’s hair back and her fingers tapped at her cards to keep from doing so. 

“Seems so,” the woman agreed. Her voice reminded Malika of someone…or something?  It sat at the corners of her mind and begged her to remember. She couldn’t. She took a drink out of a nearly finished bottle of alcohol she had next to her and tried to scrutinize the woman further.
