“So which one is it, then?” You tilted your head closer to hers, keeping your eyes on the group of teens near the doors and your voice low.

She whipped around to face you so quickly that you weren’t sure she hadn’t cracked her neck. “What?” The single word fell out in a sputtered attempt to play dumb, her eyebrows pinching together as she shook her head. “I don’t know what you’re talking about.” She gave a half hearted shrug and released a breathy, nervous laugh.

“Oh, come on.” You used the hand that was holding your beverage to indicate the five or six kids her age, watching as her eyes widened in horror over the thought of one of them looking over and catching your extremely covert signal. “You just told me that things like this aren’t really your scene, and you keep looking over there so-”

“Oh my god, did-” She muttered and sighed, her free hand going to her forehead in a way that was almost comical even though you weren’t trying to tease the girl.

“Relax, no one was looking.” She hissed something else under her breath that sounded like they better not have been and you had to fight back the small laugh that was building in your throat. “You don’t have to tell me anything, I was only asking because-”

“It doesn’t even matter.” She turned her back to lean against the rail, freckled face set in a slight frown as she kicked the toe of her shoe against the ground. “They’re already dating someone else so it-” A huff made her shoulders rise and then drop quickly.

No. I hate it. Until I’m alert enough to realize how much extra time I have! I think the initial hate stems from a nursing job I had at a facility that opened at 5:15am. Too many 4am alarms!

I haven’t researched this for myself, but I was wondering if there happened to be any information out yet on who’s providing the vocals for the Netflix series? I forgot, until I saw the new trailer last night, that they don’t seem to be using Selena’s own voice (which still breaks my heart).

Idk, I haven’t looked into it either. I know I saw reports saying they weren’t using her vocals and I also saw one saying they were. So who knows. It doesn’t make any sense to me for them to NOT use Selena’s actual vocals, but I guess we’ll find out once the show premieres.

Bit of a different question for you: How would you describe yourself as a boss? Not what you think others see you as, but in your own words. Leadership style says a lot about a person; I’m curious about yours.

That’s a good question.

I feel like it depends on who you ask, and when you ask them.

But I’d like to think I’m tough but fair. I expect a certain level of professionalism and focus, but I understand that you can’t be that way all the time. Work is work - you aren’t going to get hired at Delos as “a favor”, so all of our people have some serious skills or talent. It’s a little different on the mainland and at the corporate offices than it is for the Mesa and R&D people, which I have nothing whatsoever to do with.

I work with people and numbers, and so the people I manage do as well. I push people - often - and sometimes it backfires, but I’m not doing it to be a dick, I’m doing it because I need to see how people are under pressure. Delos is a company that stands for something, and if you work for us, you need to show that you do too. I don’t let people coast. I don’t let people put in minimal effort.

I make every effort to be right there with my employees. They need to see what they’re doing and see why they’re doing it, and the laziness and slacking doesn’t just apply to them. I’m tolerant of mistakes, because everyone makes them, but if you make no effort to correct them, there’s an issue.

It has been one entire year since I posted absolution, my first official McKirk fic. I dreamed this baby up on a weekend morning and started writing, after years of admiring the folks in the fandom from afar. I am so, so grateful I did.

How little we know of ourselves at any moment; how distinctly human that is. There is such little grace given to the perfect messiness of desire. Even queers feel pressure to homogenize the experience into catchy slogans. The 'born this way' narrative, while politically expedient, has done untold damage to narratives of the queer experience, implying any number of horrible ideas: that you cannot move toward desire without some genetic component urging you to do so, that experimentation is inherently problematic, that you have to know your truest and deepest self to act on something. There were times in my adolescence where people asked me if I was gay and I said no, not out of a sense of self-preservation but because I truly believed it to be so. You can be a stranger to yourself; you almost certainly will be, at some point or another. It is inevitable, as inevitable as the moment of rupture that sends you hurtling toward the self you were always going to be.

#i love this #I can't work with yellow tones #hate them & always try to erase them from my gifs #so i'm always impressed with people who actually manage to make something look good with yellow -- You're so sweet. I used to balk at yellow tones but Orphan Black trained me well; sometimes you just have to give in instead working against them (and it can be painful to do that); it's a roller coaster. why i made a tumblr: I made my main blog (this one) in February 2014 because a good friend of mine at the time was obsessed and coaxed me into it. I didn’t really “get it” so it became abandoned.
