There was a brief moment when, like Fantasy Trip before it, GURPS did not exist in a handy dandy box set. This is Man to Man (1985), which is the combat rules for GURPS that came out ahead of GURPS (specifically for that year’s Origins). This isn’t exactly an open playtest or pre-release, but it sure feels like a cousin of those sorts of schemes, the idea that getting the game into the hands of players and getting them playing being far more important than a hyped release date. Whatever the actual thinking behind the release of Man to Man, it was unusual at the time for part of an in-development game to see release and seems to predict publishing practices that would be used to great success in the new millennium.
That aside, this is exactly what it purports to be: the combat rules from GURPS. There are two configurations. Basic is fast and relatively easy. Advanced is much more involved, uses hexes and directionality and is, essentially, an evolutionary step from Fantasy Trip. There is not a lot of art, and what there is shows up again in the GURPS rules. I’m sad my copy doesn’t have the chits. Love the Denis Loubet cover, though!

Good Omens Fic Rec: Man to Man and because thinking makes it so
Man to Man 61,517 words
Crowley is the token twink in a corporate office, with a growing fascination with one of his colleagues. After a month of stewing in his horny stupor, he crosses paths with his dream man at an office party, striking up a conversation with the help of liquid courage. There is only one obstacle: based on his past history, the beautiful blond angel is presumed to be straight… or is he?
because thinking makes it so 41,398 words
It's supposed to be an exchange. An arrangement. Something to make them both feel better and less lonely. But Crowley's never had the brightest ideas.
Length: 61,517 words / 41,398 words

*Minor Spoilers* So, I don’t know how I feel about making this a double rec, but I feel like these deserve to be read together! Both fics take inspiration from the same Twitter thread and I am obsessed with how each took this prompt and made it their own. If you're going to read one, I really want you to read the other, so double post here we are! To briefly summarize, both start with Crowley (the self-appointed office twink) coming onto Aziraphale (the shy, self-conscious divorcee) at their office holiday party and starting a (super casual, totally won't lead into anything) sexual relationship.
Let's start with Man to Man. This Crowley has had a crush on Aziraphale for ages, and his proposition is a reckless slip of the tongue. I love Aziraphale's wit in this, his comebacks and jokes are so funny and perfectly capture his campy bitchiness. Their relationship is so realistic in a way that I swooned over. I love when sex isn't immediately magical and perfect. It's sloppy and not great at the start, but Aziraphale has a wonderful and patient teacher. This story really celebrates the slow domesticity of a new relationship. Finding out what each other likes and cares about, bringing them into your life, waking up together for the first time. It's all very lovely, but it's got quite a naughty side too! Their sex life is very steamy, and like I said, I loved the learning how to please each other aspect of it as well.
Now, because thinking makes it so, this one takes them down a slightly different road. Here, Aziraphale has a kid! He has an amicable relationship with his ex, and often has his son Adam. But what he misses is sex. Well, Crowley can certainly help in that aspect! This fic is the slightly more explicit one. Aziraphale is more sexually skilled in this fic, but he is still has a lot to learn about the pleasure of having gay sex. Especially when you've never stopped to consider your own sexuality. This one has some excellent plot points with Crowley being introduced to Adam, and how you can imagine them becoming a little family together. I'll always have a soft spot in my heart for single dad stories. This one also gives us a little more angst with their relationship, things aren't always perfectly smooth with them, but don't worry we'll get our happy (and steamy) ending.
I loved both of these fics equally, and I really hope you take my suggestion to read both of them! They are both so well written, each are lighthearted, and maddingly sexy. The way each of them interpreted the same idea is so fascinating to me, truly both outstanding stories! After dark reads for both, of course.

The Killing Vote
Anyone watching this and can recommend it? It would be good to see Park Hae-jin in a kdrama again. It's been a while.
Last time I saw him was in the Korean mystery solving show Busted.
Park Sung Woong who worked with him in the Man to Man is also co-starring in this show which suggests their may be an interesting dynamic between the leads.
Any thoughts?

I keep this blog's content limited to only (mostly) queer Thai shows, so I'm not sure if any of you would be interested in some of my favorites that are not in that category, but it's really a great watch, so maybe give it a try?
.
I hope this is not weird. Tagging @nyxelestia @aleng-neng @fiercynn @akkrosu If you want to. No pressure!

Orclsayer (1985) is where the pre-release of the GURPS combat system of Man-to-Man suddenly feels perilous to me. It is branded as a GURPS product, but also as “a combat supplement for Man to Man,” as if M2M was it’s own thing. Glad they got the branding sorted out before it became a real confusing issue.
Anywho, I am not sure what to call Orcslayer. I would not call it a combat supplement, actually — that implies to me that there are new combat rules. It introduces Yrth, a campaign setting that would later be expanded on in GURPS Fantasy, but it really isn’t a setting book — you just get some bare bones sketching of a locality and its politics and factions. Most of the book is dedicated to nine combat scenarios linked by roleplaying vignettes. These aren’t nearly robust enough to constitute a “campaign” and they don’t really feel like what I’d call an adventure, though I suppose that is the closest to what it is in form. I like the formatting, actually, with the roleplaying interludes clearly framed out before and after the equally clearly presented tactical battles. There is a lot of advice on how to run the battles effectively and most of them have interesting criteria and special rules that make them all feel different and exciting. I enjoy how linear the whole thing is, and how the writing acknowledges it but advising the GM to pretend to roll for things like NPC reactions that are preordained.
Excellent David Martin cover, too. I feel like he was really practicing his Frazetta-style butts for this one.

Man to Man
Romantic Comedy where an action star and a secret agent become entangled in a complicated mission of national security where few are who they seem to be and fewer people can be trusted.
I loved the story. It had a nice balance between action, comedy and romance. I loved the bromance, the friendships and the connections between the characters.
I recommend it!

Summary:
Stars, for all intents and purposes, were in the business of forever. And now, tonight, so was he.
Eddie and Chrissy get married.
Notes:
This was supposed to be a one-chapter wedding fic to conclude my Man to Man series, but it became so long I had to chop it up into three chapters. Put on your dancing shoes, help yourself to some punch and a barbecue slider, and get ready to party!
Many thanks to my cheerleading rockstars, the incomparable @khaleesa and @little-scribblers-heart. And thank YOU, magnificent readers, for sticking with this series. I'd love to hear what you think!
