I’ve praised Russell Dauterman's clever incorporation of the sound-effects into the artwork of Jason Aaron's Mighty Thor run in the past, but he simply outdoes himself in this scene from The Death of the Mighty Thor arc, when the Mangog completely shatters the Bifrost Bridge!
Tumblr media
You just feel the sheer weight and terror in this moment! The panel borders cracking & shattering right alongside the bridge truly helps set the mood!
From Mighty Thor (2015) #704 by Jason Aaron & Russell Dauterman.

When the Mangog is in your hammer and giving it antisocial behaviors like mass murder, sometimes you gotta do the responsible thing and put the hammer down

I’d say that I’d rather have seen Mangog be a Thor movie villain instead of Gorr the Edgelord, but at this point Thor (and Asgard in general) have been so fucked by the MCU that all Mangog would really do is look over the shitty little fishing village Asgard’s been reduced to and have a good hearty laugh.

“Truly we be undone!”
Mangog (the Marvel version, obviously) attacks the forces of Asgard.
From Thor (vol. 1) #155, written by Stan Lee, art by Jack Kirby and Vince Colletta, letters by Artie Simek.
Another great Thor villain that the MCU foolishly ignored.

Thor #249 (Wein/Buscema, July 1976). The battle to retake Asgard yields many revelations: Jane’s bond with Sif is more transformative than anyone realized, Balder’s affair with Karnilla the Norn Queen is more fraught than anyone realized, and Odin’s true nature is more shocking than anyone realized!
