Mahesh Babu is an Indian actor. He is best known for his performances in Telugu films. Family name Mahesh Ghattamaneni. He was born in August 1964. Mahesh got the opportunity to stand in front of the camera at the age of four due to his father Krishna Ghattamaneni being an actor. His acting career began in 1979 with the film Nid. He made his acting debut in the 1999 film Rajakumarudu. He played a young kabaddi player in the 2003 blockbuster hit Okkadu. Okkadu is the highest grossing film of its time. The film was remade in other Indian languages. Atadu gained international recognition in 2005 with the film. Atadu is another highest grossing film in Telugu cinema. The film was dubbed into the Polish language and released in Poland under the name Poszukiani. This is the first Telugu language film to be released in Poland. The film garnered a huge response and was able to earn Rs 104 lakh at that time. In 2008, he acted in Pakiri. The film premiered at the 7th IIFA Awards in Dubai. The blockbuster film was remade in Tamil, Hindi and Kannada. His 2011 film Dokudu was the first Telugu film to be released simultaneously in various countries around the world. The film is screened in 21 cities in North, East and West India. As the first Telugu-language film, Dokudu grossed over one billion Indian rupees. The Los Angeles Times headline about the film was, "The biggest hit you've never heard of." In 2014, he starred in the psychological film Nenokkadin. The film grossed ২ 1.225 million in its first week. His box office hits were Murari (2001), Businessman (2012) and Shithama Vakitlo Sirimalle Chettu (2013).

His film Srimanthudu (2015) is the second highest grossing Telugu film.

He has won seven State Nandi Awards, four Filmfare Best Actor-Telugu, three Cinema Awards and one South Indian International Film Award. He also served as the Goodwill Ambassador for several products in Andhra Pradesh and South India. He is the National Goodwill Ambassador of Thomas Up. He was voted the most attractive man in the Times Most Desirable Ball Men 2013, an online poll conducted by India Times Group.

Mahesh Babu was born on 9 August 1965 in Chennai. His father was Telugu film actor Krishna Ghattamaneni and his mother was Indira Devi. His elder brother is film actor, producer Ramesh Babu Ghattamaneni. Mahesh Babu has two older sisters. Padmavati Ghattamaneni and actress, film producer Manjula Ghattamaneni. His younger sister Priyadarshini Ghattamaneni. All the brothers and sisters of Mahesh have acted in films as child artists since childhood. Mahesh spent most of his childhood in Madras with his grandmother.

Mahesh Babu started his acting career in 1989 at the age of four by playing a small role in his elder brother Ramesh Babu's first film Nide.
