Scarlet Lady: Reflekta
Directory - The Gamer
Today was an important day for the pupils of Collège Françoise Dupont.
Photograph Day.
Each class would have their photo taken, along with their teacher and the principal, to have a memory of the year they would spend together.
For Adrien, it was doubly important, though.
“It's pretty cool you get to work with your photographer,” Nino said as they watched Vincent take photos of one of the youngest classes.
“Yeah! He makes even the most mundane shoots fun! And now I get to be in a photo with all my friends!”
Nino grinned as he put him in a headlock, bringing a smile out of his friend.
“If you wanna pic, you just gotta ask!”
“Haha!” Adrien laughed, and Nino pulled out his cellphone to take a selfie of them both.
----
Chloé glared at the photographer. It was the same one that had not only insulted her, but had kept her from being in a shoot with her Adrikins!
“Ugh, him again.”
----
Rose leaned on her girlfriend's shoulder with a gentle thump, her hands over her chest.
“You're not cursed, Juleka, this time will work out! I can feel it deep down in my heart!”
“Why would you be cursed?” Marinette asked the goth girl, who looked downcast.
“Every time someone takes my picture, something goes wrong...”
“Those were just accidents, Juleka!” Rose tried to cheer her up.
“The pigeon?”
Rose blinked and gave up.
“Okay, that one was pretty bad,” she admitted: even she knew that it took some serious bad luck for a pigeon to fly just in front of Juleka's face the moment the photo was taken.
“Don't worry,” Marinette said, “we'll make sure everything goes okay!”
Juleka gave her friend a small smile.
“Thanks.”
----
“Look, Sabrina, the babies are in the front row!” Chloé said.
“U-huh,” Sabrina replied, non-committally. The incident with her father had opened her eyes to the fact that her friend was not perfect. The part where Chloé blamed her over the thing with Marinette's diary weighed further in her mind.
“Hey, rugrats! Try not to suck your thumb in the photo!”
“Hn.” Once, she would have laughed. Now, she realized that her 'jokes' weren't funny at all. She felt adrift, not knowing what to do.
“Seriously, what is with you lately?” Chloé told her. She didn't want to answer, and she was saved by the handsome photographer directing everyone to their places.
“You, you, you, and you. Back row,” he said, pointing at Nathaniel, Alya, Chloé and her.
“Wait, me?!” Chloé said, grappling Adrien's arm as if it were made of gold. Sabrina noted that Adrien was uncomfortable with Chloé being so close. “Excuse you, but I belong next to Adrien!”
The photographer looked down and up and Chloé, and glowered.
“You again. Still wearing white pants, I see.”
Chloé growled, but still moved to the back row, behind Adrien.
----
“Everyone else, get between the two rows, here!” the photographer continued, sliding on the floor as he went back to his camera, and everyone went to their place.
Everyone except her.
In spite of Rose and Marinette's assurances, she still felt... apprehension. What if, in spite of everything, something went wrong?
What if she was really cursed, to never have a photo of herself that wasn't ruined by something?
“Hey!” Marinette shouted, bringing Juleka out of her spiral. “That includes you, Juleka!”
“Yeah, Juleka!” Alya yelled.
“There's space here!” Nino and Adrien invited her.
“Get in here!” Mylène encouraged her.
Maybe...
Maybe she wasn't cursed at all.
After all, would someone cursed have such wonderful friends?
----
As they made place for Juleka to take a seat, Adrien heard Chloé huffing.
“Ugh, why's everyone making a big deal over her when I'm the one having a crisis?!”
It was moments like this when he wondered if she was becoming more of a jerk, or if she had always been and he just had chosen not to see it.
It actually reminded him of Scar. So he chose to reply the same way he would to her.
“Because your 'crisis' is just an oversized temper tantrum.”
He heard Nino chuckle, and he could swear Sabrina was trying to hold up a guffaw.
“Just let us have a nice moment,” Ivan complained, letting Juleka through.
However, as soon as Juleka sat next to Adrien, Chloé attempted to push her way between them.
“The place you put me in is unacceptable! MOVE!”
He glared at her, and so did everyone else. Not that she even cared.
“Knock it off,” Juleka growled, pushing her back.
“That's right, Juleka,” Marinette encouraged her. “Don't let her push you!”
“Oh, no one asked you,” Chloé said, and he finally got a chance to intervene.
“Seriously, Chloé, have you no shame?!”
She looked at him, almost like if she hadn't understood what he had just said.
Oh, for God's sake.
“Shame?”
Chloé was certainly doing her best to remind him of Scar, wasn't she?
“Get back to your spot. I'm embarrassed for you.”
----
She couldn't understand why her Adrikins thought she should be ashamed. He should have been begging to be placed next to her in the photo! They were meant to be together, after all! The girl who was dumb enough to think that black combination was fashionable didn't deserve to muddy her photo with Adrikins!
Fortunately, the shoot was interrupted when the photographer rose a hand.
“Unbelievable! Scuzi, I need another battery!”
Couffaine stood up and walked to Mlle. Bustier.
“Can I go to the bathroom?”
“Okay, but be quick!”
This was the moment! She turned to Sabrina.
“Make sure Juleka doesn't come back,” she whispered.
“... no.”
She blinked. This could not be happening. She must have misheard.
“What did you just say to me?!”
“I. Don't. Want. To.”
Ridiculous! Utterly ridiculous! This servant Sabrina thought she could just reject her orders demands? She was clearly surrounded by idiots!
“Useless! I'll do it myself!” she shouted, shoving Sabrina aside. “Mme. Bustier!”
The moment she was out of sight, she grabbed a chair and pulled it towards the bathroom. From there, it was easy to find where Couffaine was hiding away, and she put the chair right under the handle, preventing it from moving the moment the other girl tried to come out.
“This is what you get for being in my way!” she taunted her, causing her to give a wordless yell of surprise as she attempted to open the door.
And if I'm lucky, you'll become an Akuma so I can show off as Scarlet Lady!
----
The moment Chloé came back from the bathroom, he knew something was going on, because she forced her way between him and Kim instead of staying next to Sabrina.
“Okay, take the picture!” she shouted, hugging his arm. He angrily began to try to free himself.
“Chloé, get off of me!”
“Where's Juleka?!” Marinette asked, just as angry as he was, because both of them had realized what Chloé had done.
Chloé stuck her tongue at Marinette and put her hands around his face.
“Who cares, the important thing is I'm in the right place!”
That did it.
He had limits.
And Chloé had just hit them.
“Say spaghetti!”
He turned and shoved her off as hard as he could.
“Wait!” Marinette begged, but it was too late.
SNAP!
----
Marinette quickly walked to the principal. They still had time to fix this!
“We need to retake the photo!”
“What for?” M. Damocles asked.
“Juleka wasn't in it!”
“I definitely wasn't looking at the camera,” Mylène added.
“Chloé stepped on my foot!” Kim complained.
Then Marinette's eyesore showed up, with her eternally smug face in place.
“M. Damocles, aren't there 16 other classes waiting their turn?”
“Ah! Yes! Next please!”
“Hehe,” Chloé giggled, but then Adrien showed up with a fantastic glare and Chloé stopped right in her tracks.
“SHAAAAAAAAME!”
----
Rose rushed into the bathroom, and when she heard Juleka hitting the door with her fist, she quickly moved the chair away.
The moment the door opened, her heart broke at her sad expression.
“Oh, my poor Juleka!” she cried out, wishing she could just give her a hug, but knowing that she wouldn't welcome it, at least not yet.
“I missed the photo, didn't I...”
Juleka looked so miserable! She needed to – to – to cheer her up!”
“We can retake it!” she tried. “Marinette was saying–”
“JUST FORGET IT ROSE!”
----
Three girls were lamenting the course of events of a few minutes before, and none more than Rose Lavillant, the class' sweet blonde girl.
“Juleka got locked in the bathroom,” Rose lamented: Juleka had been angry by the time she went away, no matter what Rose tried to calm her down. “She really is cursed!”
“Yeah, and the curse's name is Chloé,” Marinette replied, and suddenly, she had an idea. “You know, if the photo disappeared, the photographer would have to retake the photo!”
“I like the way you think girl!” Alya cheered, clenching her fist.
“That's amazing Marinette!” Rose said, before turning dubious. “But why would the photo disappear?”
Marinette looked at Rose with a bit of pity. She really was so innocent! Like a little blond puppy with big shining eyes!
“Oh, you sweet summer child,” Marinette replied, putting a hand on Rose's shoulder. “I shan't corrupt you.”
----
Hidden in Chloé's purse, Tikki didn't know what had transpired between the two attempts to photograph the class, since Chloé had left her behind for that time. But she could tell something was seriously wrong.
“I won't let her ruin my picture with Adrien!” Chloé angrily declared.
“The picture where he pushes you off of him?”
My goodness, Sabrina is growing wiser!
Chloé didn't seem to be of the same positive opinion, judging by the sudden jerk she gave to the purse.
“That's it! You've been a total weirdo all day! You're gonna make it up to me by stopping Dupain-Cheng, got it?!”
“No thanks. Last time I ended up with a box trap bracelet,” Sabrina fired, and it was obvious she was starting to walk away. “Let me know how that goes for you.”
The gasp of surprise Chloé made just then made it even better, and she came out of the purse.
“What is with her?! Completely ridiculous.”
“Came to her senses, if I had to guess.”
She was going to have her fun where she could get it.
----
“The camera should be in here while everyone's on their lunch break...” Marinette mumbled... not knowing that a certain brat was spying from up above with her phone.
“Ha! Caught that pea-brain red-handed!” Chloé crowed, having taken a photo of Marinette entering the principal's office. “Time to confront the thief!”
“Oh, Marinette!” Tikki lamented. “Without my guidance, you're becoming a criminal!”
----
The students began to return to the gym, as well as the teachers and principal, in order to finish the photo day – with Juleka's classmates holding out for a chance of another photo where their friend would be able to be.
But the efforts were curtailed by a girl wearing a shocking pink garb with multiple eyes spread over its surface, along with intense make up. All in all, something that was meant to attract the attention of everyone in a room.
“Bonjour~” she greeted as she flew into the room.
“Ah!” Vincent shouted, shocked.
“Who... who are you?” M. Damocles asked.
“No one ever noticed me. But that's all over, because from now on, the entire world will notice me as everyone will look like me. Soon, you'll only see thousands of Reflektas in every place. There's nothing to panic about, this is gonna rock and all I need will be a Miraculous or two and thrash that brat of Chloé...”
And she kept rambling.
On.
On.
On.
On.
And on.
And Alya and Nino looked at each other, sweating buckets at dealing with the monologuing Akuma.
When she was finally done, the Akuma – Reflekta – turned to her nearest target, Sabrina, who flinched back in fear.
“C'mon, Sabrina! Who doesn't love an extreme make-over?!”
And she fired some kind of laser from her extended arm.
But the laser didn't reach its target – because Rose tackled Sabrina out of the way.
“Rose!” Sabrina shouted in shock.
“Please stop!” Rose cried out.
“Don't interfere, Rose,” Reflekta said, clearly disappointed.
“I know it's you, Juleka! And I know these people didn't hurt you!”
“You're right...”
Rose smiled. Maybe she had managed to stop–
“I should get my true target first.”
“Wait, that's not what I meant!”
----
By the time Adrien returned, all he found was a lot of people that were dressed the same way, some of them trying to hide and others being consoled by their friends.
“Whoa, this is a weird one...” he said, knowing that this was the work of an Akuma.
“Adrien!” He turned to see Rose and Sabrina, clearly worried. “Jul... Reflekta blocked the exits so no one can get out! What do we do?!”
“She's after Chloé, who's after Marinette for trying to get the photo retaken!” Sabrina added. “They're probably stuck in the principal's office.”
Welp, this was Chat Noir time, once more.
“I'm gonna, uh, call for help!” he said, pointing to the nearest place he could think of to hide away.
“Good idea!” Rose cheered up, but Sabrina was more skeptic.
“In the bathroom?”
----
Unsheathing his claws felt awesome, but he didn't dally too long, running towards Reflekta's likely target... which he found when he saw the Akuma jumping up the stairs.
Oh no, the principal's office! he thought, and tried to come up with some plan to distract her and keep Marinette and Chloé from getting hit.
“Hey, Harley Quinn! Halloween was last month!”
“It's REFLEKTA!” the Akuma shouted, firing at him multiple times, and forcing him to keep on the move to dodge her.
“So you got her attention, now what, Chat Noir?!” he told himself, realizing that he had really not thought it through. Running away from the place, he realized something bad. “Now I can't get rid of her attention!”
And he was getting cornered. He knew he would eventually get hit by a laser, and if he did he'd likely lose any chance to act as Chat Noir. So he enclosed himself in a janitor's locker and...
“Plagg... Claws In.”
… took off his ring.
“Adrien, wha–?” Plagg asked as if coming out of sleep.
“Keep this safe for me, okay?” he asked, shooing the kwami away just as Reflekta came into his eyesight.
“I found you~” and she fired.
----
Hawkmoth felt like pulling his hair out. It had been so close! And this girl had just wasted the chance!
“YOU SHOULD HAVE TAKEN HIS MIRACULOUS!”
“Has anyone ever told you you're really annoying?”
Again? Why did people keep thinking that he was one to be mocked?
“YOU HAVE LITERALLY ONE JOB!”
----
She had managed to get her hands on the camera, and had been about to erase the photo, when the world's most irritating person came through, brandishing a smirk of superiority and her phone – which showed a video of her entering the office.
“I'm sure the principal will adore my little video of you rummaging around his office!” she crowed, but Marinette knew she had the upper hand here. She sneakily pulled out the memory card.
“Give me your phone or I erase the class photo!” she threatened, and she enjoyed Chloé's panicked face.
“NO! My picture with Adrien! Fine!”
Hiding the memory card, Marinette put the camera on the table and picked Chloé's phone. Chloé was looking quite intently at what she was doing.
“Chloé~! Where are you hiding?!” someone that sounded a lot like Juleka sing-sang.
“What was that?” Chloé asked, and Marinette quickly erased the photo and video Chloé had taken, before tossing the phone back at her.
“Thanks, Chloé!” Marinette said before starting to run away.
“Hey!” Chloé yelled, annoyed, as she tried to catch the phone before it hit the floor.
----
By the time she could secure her phone, Dupain-Cheng had completely disappeared, and she was not happy at all.
“WHERE'D THAT DIMWIT GO?!” she yelled, looking everywhere but not finding anyone. She just knew that Dupain-Cheng was laughing at her, dammit!
“Finally. Here you are.”
“Huh?”
She turned, and saw someone wearing some of the tackiest clothes she had ever seen, and she had seen some really tacky clothing.
“I don't have time for you.”
“You'll make time when my face is your face!”
She quickly dodged back into the office and closed the door just as the Akuma tried to hit her with some kind of light.
“Eugh, gross! Why does an Akuma have to come now?!”
She ignored Tikki's intent look, and blocked the door before quietly becoming Scarlet Lady and going out of the window.
“Get out here, Chloé! I have a whole new look for you!”
----
“This time, you won't get rid of me by locking me in the bathroom!” the Akuma said, and Marinette was shocked.
“Oh no, Juleka?!” It was the only option, after all that had just happened.
“Sounds like it,” someone said from behind her. She turned and saw...
“... hey.”
A black cat-like creature floating in the air.
She jumped into the library, shocked of her feet.
“Tiny cat! Mouse! Tiny cat-mouse!” she shouted, trying to make sense of what was going on, and the creature smiled at her.
“I've had worse reactions.”
“What are yooooou?!” Marinette yelled, confused, trying to protect herself with her purse.
“Look, I'm a kwami, I grant powers,” the creature said, brandishing a ring. “Look familiar?”
“That's–! Chat Noir's ring!” she realized. She had seen it enough times up close from all her encounters with the hero.
“You got it.”
“Is he okay?!”
“My kitten's been compromised. So I'm trusting you to use his ring and I'm trusting you to return it.”
Marinette smiled. She could be a hero! Even if it were for a day, it was awesome!
“Now these are the magic words. Plagg...”
----
“CLAWS OUT!”
----
“I thought you looked like a clown before, but now you're ridiculous!”
“Scarlet Lady!” Reflekta exclaimed the moment the wielder of the Ladybug Miraculous appeared, and aimed at her. “You'll appreciate it soon enough. Now, where is Chloé Bourgeois?!”
“I got her out, and she's far, far away–”
Reflekta cut her off by firing a laser, which didn't hit by centimeters. The wall behind Scarlet Lady sizzled from the impact, causing her to sweat nervously.
“Next time, I won't miss,” Reflekta threatened. “Soon, like everyone else, you'll look just like me!”
“No thanks.”
The end of a staff hit Reflekta in the face, stopping her from firing her weapon at Scarlet Lady.
“What?!”
The staff retracted again, and a deft hand swang it around.
“I prefer the look I got.”
The person that had spoken wore an elegant black qipao, molded to her lithe body almost like a second skin, and her hair held in both a long waist-long braid and a pair of short pigtails wrapped with two bands that resembled feline ears at the top of her head.
It was a cat heroine, but not the one everyone else expected.
“Who are you?!” Scarlet Lady yelled, and the newcomer glared at her with a huff.
“Oh yeah, you come with the job.”
----
“Whoa, who's that?!”
“What happened to Chat Noir?”
Plagg, oh my God, what did you do?!
This was, most definitely, nowhere close to what he had planned.
----
Scarlet Lady 'valiantly' stayed behind the newcomer, trying to keep her between herself and Reflekta.
“You better protect me!” she demanded.
“Don't you dare push me,” the cat lady fired back.
“I already skinned one cat, what's one more?!” Reflekta boasted.
“I don't think so!” Reflekta turned, and saw the multiple people she had turned into her resemblance approaching her. “GET HER!”
Everyone rushed forward, attempting to crowd her in numbers, but Reflekta simply flew over their heads.
“You're no match for me, Scarlet Lady!” Reflekta declared as she got away.
“What is going on?!”
“I'd also like some answers,” the Reflekta copy that had led the charge said, and the newcomer turned to him, shocked.
“Chat Noir?!”
----
Great. He knew he looked ridiculous... but he didn't think it would get to this.
Scar and the girl with the ring pointing and laughing at him.
“I can't believe it's really you!” the girl said.
“Geez, some thanks.”
“Phew!” Scar said, and of course she was just looking at herself in her compact. “Still, without your usual clown suit, you're utterly useless.”
“Hey!” the new girl exclaimed, angrily looking at Scar. “Chat Noir's smart, he doesn't need powers to fight Akuma!”
Then she smiled and gave him a wink.
“After all, I do it all the time.”
That smile.
That hair.
That voice.
That comment.
That wink.
He gasped.
MARINETTE?!?!?!?!?!
“What does that mean?!” Scar, ever the oblivious, asked.
Instead of answering, Marinette grabbed Chat Noir and began to pull him away from the gym.
“Where are we going?” he asked.
“To the TV station! I have an idea!”
Well, of course. She always had great ideas. He could follow her into another one.
“By the way, what should I call you, Princess Noir?”
No, not Princess Noir. It didn't link well together.
“Mao... tif? Yeah, Maotif!”
He could see the pun. Mao, which was 'cat' in Mandarin, and tif from motif.
And, God, if it weren't for the fact that he was the one that usually wore it, he would love to let Marinette keep the ring!
“You are so freakin' cute.”
----
“Where's your daughter, M. Mayor?” Reflekta asked, or rather, demanded, of André Bourgeois.
“Is she not at school?” André answered. He really didn't know where Chloé was, but if she wasn't at school, then trying to lead this Akuma back there would keep her safe.
“Put on a costume, kay?” his TV sounded out, and he looked on to see Scarlet Lady on the screen. “This is a special request from your beloved Hero of Paris!”
“Cut!”
Even if he got hit by the Akuma's weapon, at least he knew everything would be alright.
----
“Your plan is weird,” Scar complained.
“The real plan is to lead Reflekta to the TV studio!” Maotif declared, and Chat Noir took her hand.
“And right into our claws.”
He kissed his Princess' hand, and it was just as nice when she was a heroine as when she was a civilian.
“Do you ever stop being gross?” Scar asked.
He just flipped her the bird.
----
Reflekta entered the studio, and Scar quickly ambushed the Akuma by throwing her yo-yo, tangling and trapping her with the string.
Or... rather... him.
“Seriously?! A fake?!”
“Désolé,” the man – it was a man, and Chat Noir knew that voice, but couldn't place it anywhere – apologized.
“Now I got you, Scarlet Lady!” Reflekta – the real one – exclaimed, now that Scar's yo-yo was all entangled on the false Reflekta.
“No, Reflekta!” he shouted, cutting off the lights and drowning the studio in darkness.
“WHAT?!” Reflekta said, surprised by the turn of events... just as a pair of shining blue cat eyes sloooooooooooowly dropped right behind her.
“Now I got you!” Maotif exclaimed with a grin.
----
The moment Maotif took Reflekta's wrist mirror and destroyed it, Chat Noir turned the lights on again, and realized that Scar was holding an object – a camera – decorated in the usual style of her Lucky Charm.
“I didn't even get to use Lucky Charm!” she complained as she tossed it into the air.
“Ahhh, don't throw it yet!” he shouted, ducking behind a door as Scar cast the Miraculous Cure.
----
“W-Where am I?” Juleka, finally recovered from her stint as an Akuma, asked, clearly disorientated.
“Are you okay, Juleka?” Maotif asked, and the other girl turned.
“Wha–?! Who are you?!” Juleka asked.
“Maotif!” the heroine replied, smiling. “But I'm just a temp.”
Juleka, still unsure of what was going on, produced her cellphone.
“C-Could I get your picture? My friend runs the LadyBlog, so...”
“Sure!” Maotif picked the phone, readied a selfie – and suddenly pulled Juleka into the camera's scope. “Say spaghetti!”
“Wait, what–?”
CLICK!
Smiling at helping her friend finally have a cool photo, Maotif walked up to where she had seen Chat Noir ducking in. He was clearly trying to hide his secret identity. And, as much as she would like to know the boy behind the hero, she would respect his secret.
“You there, Chat Noir?” she gently asked.
“Yeah...”
“Plagg, Claws In,” she said, and the black leather costume she had been wearing vanished as Maotif gave place to Marinette once more, while the kwami popped out of the ring. “Thanks, Plagg. It was fun.”
“Of course! Fun is my middle name!”
“Dupain-Cheng?!” Scar yelled. She sounded awfully like Chloé...
“Rad,” Juleka – now happier as she looked at her new photo – commented.
Marinette looked to see Chat Noir's hand showing, and she went on to put the ring into it.
But then, before she could drop the ring, Chat Noir took her hand between his and brought it to his face.
“You're a hero, Marinette. With or without a mask.”
And he kissed her hand again.
She felt her face was burning, but she wouldn't change this feeling for anything in the world.
----
With both Chat Noir and Scarlet Lady going their own ways, Marinette and Juleka were in need of transport – and, fortunately, André Bourgeois was kind enough to offer to take them back to school.
“Thanks for the ride, M. Mayor!” Marinette said, as Juleka showed her the selfie they had taken.
“Is it cool if I share this with Alya?” Juleka asked.
“Totally! And I don't mind if you tell her the truth.”
“Oh, awesome!” Then Juleka's grin turned impish. “I think I'm gonna mess with her first.”
“PFT!” Marinette laughed.
----
Juleka and Marinette got out of the car and thanked the Mayor once more for helping them return.
“Hey guys!” Adrien greeted them.
“Adrien!” Marinette exclaimed.
“I heard you were trying to get the picture retaken?”
Marinette's smile turned awkward, and she got the memory card out of her purse.
“Yeah, uh, I kinda... stole the photographer's SD card?”
Adrien and Juleka looked at Marinette and the card in absolute surprise... and then cracked up laughing.
“Don't laugh at me!” Marinette yelled, embarrassed.
“A cutie criminal!” Juleka chortled.
----
Vincent was putting up the camera in position, when two of the students came up to him.
One of them was Adrien.
And the other was young Marinette, the girl he had met back during the photoshoot at the park.
“Excuse me? You dropped this,” Marinette said, handing him his camera's SD card.
“Oh! Grazie!” He had thought it was in the camera, and it had been just a few minutes before that he had noticed it wasn't there. He inserted it in its slot, and it worked perfectly.
But Marinette and Adrien were not done yet, apparently.
“Sir, one of our students wasn't in the photo,” the girl asked, her hands in a begging position. “Can you please retake it? We want a class photo by the most awesome of photographers, pleeeeease!”
He smiled, and then he looked at Adrien, who was right behind the girl, blushing.
“Please?” he whispered.
Ah, these two. They would go far.
“Well, if you put it that way...” he said, and Marinette grinned.
“Yay!”
And Adrien turned red like a tomato.
While Marinette went over to tell her friends the news, he turned to Adrien, smirking just enough.
“It's not like you to ask for favors,” he commented, and Adrien looked away, embarrassed.
“Uhhhh...”
“Couldn't have anything to do with your bella amica, does it?”
“Don't tell my father. I will pay you anything to keep this to yourself.”
Vincent laughed and winked at the boy.
“Tell him what? Come on, go, they are waiting for you.”
Adrien thanked him and left, and he sighed.
“Ah, young love...”
----
Instead of the school gym, they were now at the park, and Juleka was right there in the middle of the group, ensuring that she would be in the photo.
“Okay, are we all ready?” Vincent called out, since there were two missing students from the group.
“Whatever. I already have my photo!” Chloé declared. Sabrina was unsure of what to do, but then Alix stood from her place at the side of the group.
“SABRINA! GET OVER HERE! C'mon, hustle!”
Sabrina smiled. Given her friendship with Chloé, she had never felt welcome in the group... but now they were asking her to join them!
“C-Coming!” she replied, rushing over.
The photo was finally taken, and everyone cheered up, with Rose giving Juleka the hug she had been unable to earlier.
“Your curse is totally broken, Juleka!” she said, joy pouring over her voice.
“Merci beaucoup, Adrien and Marinette!” Juleka said, as Vincent showed Alya and Marinette the photos he had taken of the group.
Alya pouted a bit: she had missed the fun, after all.
“But man, if only I could've gotten pictures this good of that cat girl!”
Juleka turned and gave her an uncharacteristic smirk, brandishing her cellphone with a photo.
“Actually, I've got some.”
Adrien gasped, a blush coating his cheeks.
Marinette looked about to begin laughing.
And Alya...
“WHAT?!”
… dived after the phone. Juleka took off running, and began to laugh as Alya ran behind her in an attempt to get her hands on that photo.
Amidst the chaos, Adrien turned to look at Marinette, smiling.
“Whoever she was, she handled it pretty well.”
And Adrien was rewarded with her blush and her smile.
“Y-Yeah.” Marinette leaned back, looking up to the sky. “Being a superhero... would be pretty cool.”
----
Not yet... but perhaps soon, Fu thought.
----
The moment Alya returned from her persecution and put her hands over her shoulders, her eyes sparkling, Marinette knew.
“Ah, Juleka told you. Do not put this on your blog. I consent to you knowing, not all of Paris!”
----
In a floating home at the Seine, Juleka returned all smiles and joy.
“So, how'd it go?”
“Well, not so great at first,” she admitted. “I'll spill the tea later. But Marinette totally broke the curse! We got so many pictures!”
He grabbed the phone, and checked the photos – one of which was of Juleka along with a cute black-haired girl with blue eyes.
“Huh. Marinette...”
----
Timebreaker
@zoe-oneesama I wonder what Hawkmoth would say if he got Reflekta'ed. “Why did I give her such a lame power?” probably.
Hope I got to show Juleka's emotional rollercoaster in a way that makes justice to Scarlet Lady!

Fic Snip - Black Cats Bring Bad Luck
“Maybe initially, but I nearly destroyed my social life, so…” Lila hummed, “Also I’m new…”
“Nearly destroyed your social life?” Alya asked.
Lila blinked.
“Because… I was lying…?” Lila muttered. “About knowing all those famous people?”
“Oh,” Alya said. “...you know, I forgot about that.”
“What? How?”
“We didn’t pay… that much attention?” Alix glanced at Alya, “I mean, it wasn’t that out of left field, considering it’s not that uncommon to run across celebrities. So saying you met them wasn’t hard to believe? But also, it’s fairly normal to exaggerate experiences with celebrities.”
“...ah.” Lila looked down. “I… Huh. I guess the worst I did was lie about having been given a miraculous? Adrien got kinda mad when Maotif… I mean Vixen walked past, but… I dunno, she seemed chill afterward? And encouraged me to look up Asexual and aromantic. I didn’t realize people… actually liked people?”
Alix snorted.
“Welcome to the club!” Alix said.
Ha! I'm glad aroace Lila is catching on

Hello everyone, I made this tribute to the final Scarlet Lady saga! Each hero who carries a Miraculous from the Chinese box in the story has the colors of their costumes instead of the colors based more on Maotif, Chat Noir, Marigold e Scarlet Lady. I hope @zoe-oneesama Watch this and be happy for the tribute, I'm a fan here in Brazil who follows the series through Canal do Hora Cartoon (Juliano). Thank you to my followers and keep the images
PS: Characters who do not carry a Miraculous (for now) are not painted

Scarlet Lady Au: Two Halves of Marinette’s Heart
Author’s Note: Based on Zoe-Oneesama's Tumblr comic Scarlet Lady which is my fave Ladybug fan content or tied along with LadyBugOut. Only there and the amnesiac Adrien in the episode Oblivion do I ship Adrienette. Also happy birthday to Zoe.
@zoe-oneesama
Marinette Dupain-Cheng was smiling as he was riding on the back of one of her boyfriends Luka Couffaine's bike as he had insisted on giving her a ride to school. He and Adrien Agreste had recently revealed their feelings to her and she was torn between them: the cute and nice Adrien and the cool but also dorky like her Luka. It was tough to think it through even after they had both assured her that they don't want to hurt their friendship with her no matter what she choose. It was Alya who stepped in after healing her dilemma had said that she can just date them both since she had two hands for the each of them. Luka and Adrien were fine with this as long as Marinette was happy and it was then their relationship happened over the weekend.
They had let their family know and they accepted it well: Anarka was quite over the top in her excitement, Marinette's parents and embarrassed her by saying that she had got them 2 sons in law; Juleka had likewise already claimed Marinette as her sister in law and Adrien's father... Marinette and Luka looked at him in sympathy when he just shook his head saying that he was too busy to get a chance to tell him. Marinette comforted him with a hug not really liking how her favourite designer was so cold to his own son. Pollen was more than happy about his Miraculous' owner's new relationship and said his queen deserved all the love that she gets.
Marinette kissed Luka on the cheek after she got off and Adrien was there to greet them as they posed together for a picture smiling which Juleka took with Adrien's photo. Luka and Adrien showed off their custom necklaces around their necks made by Marinette of two halves of a heart with "Marinette's heart" inscribed on them.
"Are you sure that you are ready for everyone to know about you three?" Juleka asked giving Adrien back his phone and they nodded without hesitation.
"I don't really care as much for father's opinion but he seems to like Marinette as an up and coming designer so I think he will give approval." Adrien said with a huffed voice which had them silent.
"I wouldn't want to hide being with Marinette at all; I would sing it with my soul." Luka said Adrien posted the picture on social media with the caption:
Me with Luka Couffaine and our amazing new girlfriend Marinette Dupain-Cheng!
They got in and as students saw the notice they began crowding Marinette and Adrien as they came in holding hands as they went to their classroom. There were students wanting to get a look at 2 3rds of the new couple as they heard the comments:
"Marinette scored herself with 2 cute guys!"
"Are you going to be modelling Marinette's designs now Adrien?"
"So are you going to be Marinette Dupain-Cheng-Agreste-Couffaine in the future?"
They ignored them and walked into class with Juleka not far behind them to see their excited classmates wanting to know the details.
"So Adrien, will you and Luka be fighting eachother to get the most out of Marinette's time?" Alix asked as Marinette glared at her while Rose was squealing about how romantic it was. Marinette was taken aback when she noticed Lila and Sabrina glaring at their direction while looking quite jealous.
She was shocked by this thinking that she was getting along with Lila and Sabrina was forming a good friendship with her while helping her start over from her toxic so called 'friendship' that she had with Chloe. Marinette's eyes widened when she noticed that Adrien went to get to his seat and their looks were going to his direction, so it was Adrien they were angry at?
"Can I please ask if Adrien has done something to anger you?" Marinette asked as they both shook their heads and there were laughter.
"Marinette, they are just jealous that Adrien and Luka got to you first!" Alya told her grinning as they ended up nodding slightly a bit embarrassed.
"You helped me be more truthful about myself and I still remember how in love that I felt when I heard you badmouth that terrible Scarlet Lady!" Lila said as Marinette was open mouthed wondering just could she possibly remember that since she was Volpina at the time. Marinette did remember that while she was telling the love struck Volpina that she hated Hawk Moth more than Scarlet Lady, that she a bit scared that Volpina was going to kidnap her as a bride for her comment alone.
"You've always been so nice to me Marinette and never held what I did for Chloe against me, even when I tried to steal your diary for her and lied my way into your room. You've been more of a friend to me than Chloe ever was and you are so amazing." Sabrina told her as Marinette didn't know what to say.
"I bet Luka and Adrien wouldn't mind if you wanted to date Marinette as well, if Marc is alright with Nathaniel wanting to go after Marinette as well." Rose suggested as Marinette, Sabrina, Lila and Nathaniel were now red in the face.
"Dupain-Cheng!" screamed an unwelcome voice as the entire class groaned in unison as they should have dreaded this reaction as Chloe came in looking angrier than they had ever saw her which was quite an accomplishment for her. "How dare you steal my Adrikins away from me! I could care less if you wanted to waste your time with that loser with the guitar as losers belong together, that do you think that I was going to sit back and let you keep them both for yourself when Adrien is mine!" Chloe thundered as the class glared at her.
"Watch what you say about Marinette or my brother!" Juleka said speaking up using courage that almost never comes to her.
"Adrien is not a prize to be won or yours to claim Chloe; it's his choice who he wants to be with!" Marinette told her as Chloe smirked getting out her phone.
"Managed to get a picture of your little notebook when you had it open and wasn't looking Dupain-Cheng." Chloe said showing off a drawing of a love heart around Chat Noir as Marinette was open mouthed at that picture being shown to the class and red in her face but while angry at Chloe, Adrien couldn't help but smile a bit at the picture. "So do you want to claim the mangy cat as well Dupain-Cheng with how pathetic you are?" Chloe snarked looking victorious but Adrien spoke up.
"Nothing wrong with having a celebrity crush Chloe, I have one on Marigold myself." Adrien said taking out his notebook and showing that it had a photo of the Bee heroine Marigold with a heart drawing around it as Marinette was redder in the face while Chloe was open mouthed.
"Nothing wrong with that dude, she is pretty much the best hero that Paris has now!" Nino said with everyone smiling and nodding in agreement besides Chloe and Marinette. Marigold has with her fighting tenacity, warm comforting words to Akuma victims after they were being freed and happy to help civilians in need made her a more popular hero. She had given interviews and how valued Chat Noir was as a partner and helped Paris realise how hard he had to fight against the Akumas.
"Excuse me but Scarlet Lady is by far Paris' best hero!" Chloe retorted by Alya got out her phone and showed the poll that the news station had made asking Paris citizens who they liked the best.
Marigold was in the lead followed by Chat Noir, Maotif the one time temporary Chat Noir was in 3rd place and in a very distant 4th place with barely 1% vote was Scarlet Lady. "Paris disagrees Chloe." Alya told her and Chloe was furious. People were being interviewed and the stories of people's interactions with Scarlet Lady were now circulating.
"Adrien, you can't seriously be okay with this! I'm your friend and we would be much better than stupid Dupain-Cheng!" Chloe told Adrien but he shook his head.
"'Were' your friend Chloe, 'were' as in we used to be and haven't really been friends for a long time but I am just making it official!" Adrien thundered and Chloe was open mouthed and this surprised the class. "Sorry Chloe, I have tried to give you some time to better yourself but you keep pulling these stunts while being a cruel bully to our classmates and treating me like a possession of yours. Calling my girlfriend and my new bro losers was me losing all patience and I can't pretend anymore. I am sorry Chloe but I can't be friends with you anymore, you are different from the friend that I used to have." Adrien said and Chloe furiously charged at Marinette.
Adrien caught her hand and glared at her hard before letting go, Chloe began ranting and shouting on the spot while kicking the desk and Ms Bustier had to tell her off and send her to the principal's office.
"Sorry about that Adrien..." Marinette said since as much bad blood as there was between her and Chloe, the bully did used to be a friend to Adrien.
"You have nothing to be sorry about, just keep being the girl that I love." Adrien told her and she smiled back.
Later in the week, after school they were at a park bench as Marinette was at Luka's lap and Adrien was in Marinette's as the three relaxed together. However they heard screaming and saw an Akuma attacking people in the streets.
Marinette jumped out of Luka's lap and helped Adrien up who was in a similar panic as her's. "Sorry guys, I hate to break up a perfect moment but... I have to get a cake to Nadja and I don't want to be earlier than I was last time since it didn't go so well..." Marinette said thinking on the spot.
"Don't worry... I just remembered an event that my dad would want me to be at..." Adrien said as they both ran off in separate directions.
Luka smiled as she dusted himself off and went home chuckling at them, after a few days of this did they really think that he would not pierce it together? No matter, this means that he could talk to Adrien about Marigold and bond over them crushing on her.

Scarlet Lady: La Befana
Directory - The Collector
When she saw her classmates gathered around a table, her curiosity was sparked. Granted, they (except for her Adrikins) were peasants that knew little of the ways of the world, but still, something that kept their attention away from its proper place (her) was probably something interesting. Or at least something she would have to learn about in order to stop it and restore the natural balance.
“Hey, what are you doing?” Her eyes caught gaze of what was on the table: a crude drawing that looked like tables, mentions of gross food and infantile stuff. All of it pointed to one thing. “Planning a party?”
“It's none of your business, Chloé,” Kubdel said, while everyone else (even Adrikins) gave her an ugly look.
They didn't want to tell her? She knew how to deal with that.
“Hmph. Mme. Bustier!” she shouted.
“Yes?” the teacher asked, and she hid her head into her chest. This was a trick that always worked, making the woman believe she was sad, when actually all she wanted was to rub into the others' faces the power she had.
“They're excluding me! Purposefully!”
“Class!” Mme. Bustier said, and she knew she had won. “I expected better from you! Invite Chloé right now!”
“Fine, whatever,” Kubdel muttered, and Mme. Bustier left, allowing her to just bask in the feeling of victory.
“So, what's this party for? Might as well tell me.”
“Marinette's birthday party.”
And victory suddenly turned to ashes in her mouth.
----
Plagg watched as his best friend just panicked from what was going on outside the rich girl's bag. Seriously, it was hilarious. If only he had some cheese to enjoy it with!
“Ooo, I just know Chloé's going to try to ruin Marinette's party!” Tikki said, shaking.
“Got a soft spot for Pigtails, Sugarcube?” he asked, grinning, before he closed his eyes. “You know she wore the ring for a bit? Made a pretty good cat~”
Tikki did something he truly hadn't expected to see.
She began to cry. Angrily.
It didn't look good. Like, at all.
“W-Whoa, Sugarcube! It's not a big deal!” he said, panicked. Then he remembered something that might be enough to calm her down. “Here, want the hair I saved from when she was Maotif?”
As if he had hit a switch, the tears disappeared and she began to sparkle, her cheeks even blushing like his kit when he thought about Pigtails as she approached him, her hands in a begging position.
“Really? I have the perfect place for it!”
“I can't keep up with you,” he said, feeling as if he was about to have whiplash. And he wasn't supposed to have whiplash.
----
Alya felt the disaster looming over their heads when she read the message Nino sent her.
“Ah – what the heck?! Chloé got invited...” She turned to her current companion, who had been seconded to her due to her organizational skills, which would be paramount in their current quest. “Alright, Sabrina, new role: you're now the Chloé wrangler.”
“I will do my best,” Sabrina vowed. And Alya knew she would.
----
When the classmates that had remained at school arrived to the park, they were happy to see how well things were going already.
“This looks amazing, Alya!” Adrien congratulated her, as Ondine tied up some flags while sitting on Kim's shoulders. Behind him, Aurore and Mireille wondered what was in some of the presents. And Alya gave a fierce grin.
“Right?” She turned to some of the newcomers and began to give the orders. “Juleka, you're on balloons!”
“Yeah,” the shy girl replied with a smile.
“Nino, you got the playlist?”
“You bet!” their DJ grinned.
“Marinette's gonna be blown away! She won't know what hit her!”
----
“It's cute that they think they are subtle,” Marinette said, giggling, as she folded her clothes. Her friends were way too obvious, and she had known about the party for days now. In fact, she actually knew Alya was meant to call her in a while, to get her to go to the park under some excuse. She was already prepared to go, and hoping for a fun afternoon with her friends.
Ding-dong, the door's bell sounded. Since her parents were busy working on the cake, she ran downstairs.
“I'll get it!” she said.
“AH!” Papa yelled, and a sudden SLAM told her he had thrown something into the trash and covered it with its lid. Paying it no mind, she opened door to –
“Mamé?!” she asked, surprise.
“Marinetta~! Bon anniversaire, ma petite fée!” her grandmother Gina said, kissing her face after taking off her sunglasses. “Nonna came all the way back to Paris to spend the day with you!”
“Uh, Maman, Marinette has –” Papa tried to say, but Maman interrupted him.
“Oh, let her get out of the house.”
“Here, my gift, Marinetta!” Mamé said, handing her a package.
“After all, we have to remake the cake,” Maman pointed out – looked like what Papa had thrown to the trash was the cake – as she opened Mamé's present... a T-shirt that would have probably fit her four or five years before.
“T-Thanks!” she said. Well, maybe she could still do something with it. And turn the... well, not very cute front image into something good.
“I also got your favorite candy!” Mamé added, bringing out a small box.
----
Marinette soon found out that her grandmother had some plans that weren't exactly the kind she had in mind for the day. Still, she couldn't bear to make Mamé unhappy, so she accepted... even if she felt ridiculous.
Like right now.
Because she was riding a merry-go-round horse while she tried to eat the candy she had liked back when she was five, awkwardly grinning at her grandmother while trying to pay no attention to the fact that the only other people in the merry-go-round were children Manon's age.
I'm doing this for you, Mamé, but I feel like maybe we could've changed our plans when you realized I'm 14 now...
----
Chloé stealthily grabbed all the presents she had found and tossed them into the nearby bushes, with an evil grin.
They'll spend hours figuring this out! Hehehe!
As she walked away, she didn't see Sabrina dutifully grabbing the presents and returning them to the table.
Chloé then unplugged all of Nino's DJ equipment.
“Ohoho!” she laughed. Have fun at a party with no music!
As she walked away, she didn't see Sabrina expertly plugging everything back in its place.
She had spent years cleaning up Chloé's messes – for her, this was another Tuesday.
----
As he was about to serve the biker old lady and the young birthday girl a nice ice cream cone – he could tell the good lady wanted lemon for bittersweet, cream at the top, and three cookies – the girl's phone rang and she picked it up.
“Yes, yes, of course! I'm on my way~!” she said after listening for a moment.
“Marinetta?” the lady asked.
“Oh! Um, actually Mamé, Alya planned a surprise party for me! (I'm like 99% sure)” the girl said, waving her hands.
“Don't worry about me, ma petite fée. I'll see you later...” the lady replied, clearly a bit disappointed. The girl didn't seem to pick up on it, though.
“Really?! You're the best Nonna in the world!”
The girl quickly ran, and left her grandmother watching her back.
That was when he asked what he was thinking about.
“You're not gonna ride back together?”
“Ah.”
Clearly, none of them had considered that option.
----
“Befana, I am Hawkmoth.”
“Who?”
He blinked. This was a first. Someone in Paris didn't know who he was?
“The... the guy who makes Akumas? Is in constant pursuit of the Ladybug earrings and Cat Ring?”
“What?!”
And he thought it was bad enough when he just had to explain to people what they had to do.
----
“BON ANNIVERSAIRE, MARINETTE!” all of her friends shouted the moment they caught sight of her. She marveled not only that everyone was there, but also about everything they had done in just a couple of hours. They even had a DJ set for Nino to play his music!
“Wow, guys, this is –!” she began, only to find a particular irritant she really didn't want to see. “Why's Chloé here?”
“I was invited–” Chloé said.
“Bustier made us,” Ivan interrupted her.
Ugh.
“So, where's your gift, Chloé?” After knowing her for nearly a decade, she was quite certain that she would have brought nothing.
“Um, the gift of my presence, obvi.”
Nailed it.
“I want the receipt,” she fired back, and Chloé growled in annoyance.
Adrien decided to act fast, before Chloé caused more trouble, and broguht a small package that fit in his hand.
“Here, you can open my gift, Marinette,” he said, smiling and blushing a bit.
“Thank you, Adrien!” she replied, smiling back at him as she opened the box – revealing a bracelet made of several charms in gold and blue. “Wait, is this...?”
“I still have the one you gave me!” he added, showing the bracelet she had given him when they were practising for the UMS3 co-op tournament. “Er, well, the one you let me borrow? I kinda missed my chance to return it, so, I thought I'd make you one!”
Marinette smiled. This was so well thought! She had always liked hand-made gifts, because they felt more personal and intimate. And Adrien, who probably had more than enough money to buy something expensive online, instead chose to take time out of his tight agenda to find the individual charms and thread them... that made it all the more special and wonderful.
“You made this yourself?! That's so sweet! I love it!”
“Hehe!” Adrien bashfully laughed.
Behind her, Chloé growled.
She didn't care.
----
Atop the triple-layered cake, Sabine carefully placed, one by one, the candles to celebrate their daughter's fourteenth anniversary, forming the number. It wasn't an easy task, particularly since she was being held aloft by her husband, who, even with his great strength, still swayed a little. But perseverance and carefulness eventually managed to do it, and the cake was finally ready.
“Tadaa!” Tom, ever the showman, cheered.
“Great work!” Sabine said.
“I'll go get my mother and we can–”
The doors were suddenly kicked in, and showed a wild-haired, green skinned woman riding a... flying motorcycle? Tom gently let Sabina back on ground while he turned to the obvious Akuma.
“A-ha! Boy, don't tell your Mamma what to do!”
“Maman?!” Tom uttered as she aimed a gun made of – apparently – candy at him.
“This is what bad boys get! COAL!”
She fired the gun.
“AH–!” Tom said, before he was turned into a coal statue of himself, while Sabine collapsed to the ground, terrified.
“AHAHAHA!” the Akuma laughed.
What on Earth happened on that outing?! Sabine wondered, before the Akuma turned and fired at her.
----
The party was in full swing, and Marinette was having fun! Even with the cold, it was great and fun. She was now waiting for her parents and grandmother to bring out the cake, and the party would be complete.
“La Befana comes at night, on her shakey broom in flight, she gives out candy to those who are dandy~!” someone sang from up above, and she looked up to see an Akuma – because there was no way a normal person would be riding a flying motorcycle and have skin and hair that would look more appropriate for a Halloween movie than... well, now.
And that voice and the motorcycle...
“Mamé?!” she asked, shocked. Oh, God, did I forget to tell her that she was meant to come to the party as well? Did Mamé think I just didn't want to spend time with her?!
“Nonna's here to punish you for lying about eating my candy!” Mamé said, and fired the candy flintlock gun at her. She just barely avoided the shot by jumping aside.
“Oh, c'mon, the one thing I lied about to spare your feelings!” she lamented, and got ready for yet another Akuma fight.
----
Hiding from behind the bushes, Tikki watched as Marinette dodged yet another attack from the Akuma – La Befana, apparently – only for the attack to hit one of Marinette's friends, turning her into a coal statue.
“Chloé, we gotta transform!” she urged. She really didn't want to see Marinette turned into coal!
“Eh... give it a few more minutes,” Chloé said, waving her off.
“Chloé.” Why would she expect Chloé to do something decent for once?
----
Chat Noir was shocked by how quickly the party had derived into a battle zone, with the arrival of an Akuma that looked like a witch and rode a bike. The fact that she was turning his friends into coal statues and that she seemed to have it for Marinette made it more urgent that he transform and deal with her.
“So Granny, what's got you seeing black?” he asked from atop one of Nino's sound towers.
“I don't have time for you, Gattino!” the Akuma declared. “You can play with my fairy instead!”
A woman with white wings that Chat Noir could easily identify as a transformed Sabine Dupain-Cheng flew at him.
This is going to get ugly, he thought, getting ready for a fight.
----
She had debated going to the party or not.
On one side, Alix had been very insistent on getting her to come to the party, and after the talk they had had she was sure that Marinette would have welcomed her with open arms.
On the other side, she didn't feel ready yet to face everyone else – not after Scarlet Lady had shown her to be a liar.
Fortunately, she could see the park where the party was going to take place from her room: if she saw things going fine, she would join them – she'd have to find something that she could gift Marinette, but she had something in mind already.
Then she saw the attack.
“YOU WON'T ESCAPE YOUR PUNISHMENT, MARINETTA!”
“CHAT NOIR!”
“I'M COMING FOR YOU ! … UH, SOON! Aren't fairies supposed to be nice?!”
Too much chaos.
Yeah, she had made a good choice in staying at home, after all.
----
She was getting cornered by her own Akumatized grandmother, and Chat Noir was fighing her mother who had been transformed into a fairy.
Next time, I'll ask to make sure this doesn't happen again, she thought as Befana aimed her gun at her – only to get hit with a paper plate.
“Ah!”
“Marinette's not a liar!” Alya shouted, a tower of plates in one hand that she tossed with the other.
“Someone should teach you table manners!” Befana shouted back as she fired, turning Alya into coal.
“ALYA, NO!”
“NOW!” Kim shouted as he and Ondine flanked the Akuma.
“Kim! Ondine!”
Unfortunately, Befana was faster than them, and she quickly fired twice.
“Guys, shtahhhhp!” she cried out, touched that they were willing to protect her but scared at what they were suffering.
----
Punishing Marinetta was getting hard, mostly because her little friends were trying to stop her! Not that they could do anything to her, but it was still a mess.
“Leave her alone!” one of them, a cute blonde girl, begged. “She's the nicest girl in the whole world!”
“Standing up for your friend?” She readied her gun. “Guess that makes you... a fairy!”
She shot, and the girl got her wings, ready to help bring punishment to the bad children of the world.
“Now, the rest of you!” she said, and she turned to another blonde girl in the crowd. “Will you protect Marinetta?! Or punish her?!”
“I don't care.”
She was left baffled. In this crowd, wouldn't everyone want to protect Marinetta?
“Um, what? What does that mean? Coal? Fairy?”
The girl pointed behind her.
“She's getting away, you know.”
She turned to see that the gattino had managed to fend off her first fairy and was taking Marinetta away. As the tattling girl left, clearly uncaring for what might result of this, she aimed her gun at the others, firing again and again, until everyone got the coal they deserved.
“Let this be a lesson, brats!” she shouted to the inanimate forms, and revved up her motorcycle. There was a misbehaving girl to catch!
----
Ignoring Tikki's prattling as she returned to her car, Chloé internally crowed about everything. While those misguided dolts only got themselves in trouble protecting Dupain-Cheng, it would be all for nothing, and soon enough Dupain-Cheng would get herself turned into a coal statue. She supposed she might eventually free them, and they would be properly grateful of her amazing deeds... although she wondered if she could tweak the cure so someone wouldn't be turned back...
Then she looked into the car, and saw that the man at the wheel was black from head to waist, immobile.
“Hey! She hit my driver! How dare she, Tikki! Spots On!”
----
As much as he would like to do otherwise, Chat Noir decided his best bet of keeping Marinette safe was bringing her to the Eiffel Tower; the large steel beams and platform would allow his Princess to hide while he dealt with the Akuma.
“You're pretty popular, Princess!” he said, reveling in how he could hold her in his arms. “Why's your grandma so mad anyway?”
“She just wanted to spend more time together...” she replied, sadly.
“Hm, well...” There were so many things he wanted to tell her! Instead, he let her set foot on the platform, and settled for something he had thought about for so long.
“Bon anniversaire, Marinette,” he said in a soft voice, and gently kissed her rosy cheek, which was as soft as her hands always were, and for a crazy second, he thought about going closer to her mouth.
But he didn't, because this was not the moment and because he was certain she would not welcome it. At least, not yet.
Jumping on top of the balustrade, he gave her an encouraging smile.
“Don't worry. I'll get your grandma back to normal!”
“Uh... guh... t-thanks!” she said, clearly shocked by the sudden kiss, and he pulled out his staff, ready to find the Akuma.
----
Marinette sat on the balaustrade, hidden from the rest of the world, and made sure Chat Noir wasn't looking.
That was when she covered her face, so red that she felt like she was burning up, and her leg began to kick the air as if it had a mind of its own.
Which it probably did, because her own mind was now blocked.
Oh my God, you stupid cat, that was so smooth! Why did I stutter?! she cried out in the depths of her mind, trying to make sense of the sudden 'present' she had received from her hero.
----
His pole extended to reach the ground, he prepared to jump off the tower.
“Gotta get out of here before Befana figures out where I left her,” he told himself.
“aaaaaAHHHHHHHH”
Wait, that sounds familiar...
He looked up, and was immediately struck by a red polka-dotted screaming projectile. It was just his luck that he had managed to brace himself in time, otherwise they could have ended falling off.
“SHIT!” the projectile yelled.
“Scar, what the hell?!” he yelled back.
“Protect me!”
From what? he wanted to ask, but there was no need to do so aloud.
“A-ha! So here's where you took Marinetta, little kitty thief!” Befana declared, followed by at least five people she had transformed into fairies, among them Marinette's mother and Rose.
He glared at the clinging idiot.
“What?” she asked, clearly not caring about the disaster she had just caused.
He wondered if he would be able to get away with throwing her down to the next platform.
Then again, no matter the result, it wouldn't be good for him. And either way, Scar was more a cockroach than a ladybug. It would probably take a massive dose of insecticide to get rid of her.
Instead, Scar just let go and held onto the tower with hand and feet, while Befana continued to float on her flying motorcycle.
“Here, kitty kitty! You'll look great in white!”
“No thanks! It doesn't go with my eyes!” he fired back.
“I, however, look great in every color!” Scar said. He doubted it.
“Hmph!” Looked like Befana agreed. “Cowardly bugs get coal, Scarlet Brat!”
“What?! Lucky Charm!”
This time, the charm was a large metal tuba, which fell on the nearby platform as Scar and him climbed back to it. However, before they could attack, the fairies grabbed large rocks from somewhere and began to toss them at the two of them, leaving them hurt and on their knees.
“Very naughty. I'm going to have to take away your toys,” Befana said.
“Mistress,” the fairy that had once been Mme. Dupain-Cheng said in a monotone, revealing that her and Rose had found Marinette.
“Ah, here you are!”
“Mamé, I'm sorry about the candy!” Marinette said. “But I did spend the day with you! And you could've come–”
“Enough back talk! Here's your birthday gift!”
And she fired.
“Ah–” Marinette gasped, before she was turned into coal.
“MARINETTE!”
Red.
Red.
Red.
That was all he could see.
Red.
----
Hawkmoth realized too late that he had made a mistake.
He noted it down for future reference.
Do not harm Marinette Dupain-Cheng. That way only lies defeat.
----
Chat Noir was not furious.
Furious implied there was something that could hold him back.
Apocalyptically, volcanically enraged might be a better fit.
This Akuma had dared hurt his Princess!
HIS MARINETTE!
There would be a reckoning, and when he got his hands in Hawkmoth's greasy face, he was going to pummel it until there was no face to speak of!
But, right now, there was something else to deal with.
Discarding staff and Cataclysm, instead he grabbed the Lucky Charm and jumped at Befana.
“HOW DARE YOU?!” he raged, slamming the tuba on top of the Akuma's head, trapping her head and shoulders in a metal prison.
“HAH?!” the Akuma's shout echoed inside the object.
“SCAR, GET THE DAMN CANDY BOX!”
“Uh, sure...” Scar replied, for once just meekly doing her job instead of back talking him.
----
When she awoke from her sudden transformation into coal, thanks to the Miraculous Cure, Chat Noir gave her a desperate hug, and she swore she heard him thanking every god under the sun for her safety before he wished her a happy birthday once more and leaving.
The chaos of the Akuma attack had caused enough problems that, in spite of the Cure fixing everything, they still had to work for some time to get the party ready, by which time night had fallen.
Marinette made good on the time she had to follow on the idea she had had earlier, and when she was done, she found her grandmother animatedly speaking with André, the ice cream maker, who had moved his business to the park, following the party goers.
“Mamé!” she said, hugging her.
“Oh, chérie! Your purse!”
“Did it myself! Isn't it cute?”
The t-shirt may have been too small for her size, but she had realized it made for a perfect decoration of the purse she was now carrying!
“Happy birthday to you~”
She turned, and saw her parents holding a huge cake, while surrounded by her friends, all of whom were singing.
“Happy birthday to you~ Happy birthday Marinette~ Happy birthday to you!”
She felt a tear starting to fall off her eye as she walked closer to everyone. The cake was too tall for her to blow the candles, but Kim and Ivan lifted her unasked and allowed her to put out the candles, to everyone's applause.
“Um, am I too late?” someone else asked, and she turned to the newcomer.
“Lila?!”
“Hey,” she bashfully said.
“Hmph. Who invited her?” No need to wonder who said that.
“I did,” Sabrina cheerfully said.
“Me too!” Rose, who was being hugged by Juleka, stated.
“Also me,” Alix said.
“But why though!” Chloé complained. Nobody cared.
Marinette approached the newcomer.
“Lila, you came!” she said; when she didn't come in the last day before the break, she had been a bit sad, but it looked like she was going to rejoin the class.
“Yeah. Here, for you,” Lila replied, offering her a box. Even if it seemed to be a bit last minute, it was still a well-prepared box, and when she opened it, she found a beautiful red and black mask that looked like it was flowing fire, with a rod that allowed whoever was wearing it to hold it close to their face.
“Whoa, pretty!”
“Oo! A Carnevale mask!” Mamé said; she had been to Venice quite a few times, and had actually worn one once or twice.
“Yes! Exactly!” Lila added, pleased that someone had identified it.
“Thank you, Lila!” Marinette added, smiling at her classmate.
“I wanted to get rid of it cuz it reminds me of you-know-who.”
That felt like a cold-water shower.
“How... honest of you?”
Meh, she'd take it. She had said she should be more honest, after all.
----
“Glad you could make it, Lila!” Mylène cheerfully said, and Lila knew that it was time to make up for her previous actions. As Marinette had said, she had to earn trust back, but it looked like they weren't too angry.
“Yeah, um, listen...” she began, tugging on her side tail. “Sorry about, like, lying about my connections.”
“Nah, it's okay,” Kim replied.
“Really?! Just like that?!” It was quite surprising, that they would forgive her so easily.
“Well sure! So you lied about knowing famous people,” Kim continued, while Max nodded. “It's not like you had us do your homework or carry your stuff!”
Alert, alert, alert!
“Hahahaha! Yeah, who would do that?!”
They can never know...
She then noticed Alya, who was sporting a very unfriendly face. And she knew why.
“Sorry about the interview.”
“Yeah, well, I'll be doing thorough fact checking from now on,” Alya replied.
“Um, okay?”
She wasn't sure if that meant she was forgiven, but at least she wasn't trying to kill her.
She'd take what she could get.
----
“Marinette, there's another gift here,” Adrien said. “It's unsigned.”
“Huh.” She had counted, and everyone here that mattered had presented their gifts, all of which were wonderful and lovely. “It's not Chloe's, is it?”
“As if!”
Yeah, everyone that mattered.
Opening the box, carefully, she found a small red pendant that looked like half of a circle, like in the yin-yang symbol, and which beautifully shone under the park lights.
“Oh! How cute! Who got me this?” she asked.
“Not me.”
“Sorry, no clue.”
She lifted it, so she could better see it, and she noticed that it was so wonderfully made. It was the kind of thing that she would carry everyday if she could.
“Well, whoever it's from, it's beautiful! I know just what to do with this!” she declared.
----
Hidden in Chloé's bag, Tikki felt the tear slipping from her eye. Marinette had loved her kwagatama. It had been a bit of a rush job, since usually it took months to finish, but she had been fortunate that, with Creation as part of her portfolio, sometimes she could skip certain parts.
If things had gone as they should have, it would have been the sign of her friendship with Marinette.
But now, it was a promise. A promise that the two of them would eventually regain their fated partnership. A promise of an eternal bond.
Bon anniversaire, Marinette.

Kung Food
@zoe-oneesama When Chat Noir finds Hawkmoth, he will put the Russian Reversal in play (In the West, you skin cat - in Soviet Russia, cat skins YOU!).
So, we've done La Befana, which has the first time Marinette's actually killed (not just put in danger, but killed) and Chat Noir's side that only Marinette can keep away rises.
I think I'll have Marinette's uncle's chapter ready by next Tuesday, as we get to see more of Marinette being a hero and more of Chloé being... Chloé.
Just two chapters to finish the season!
