RACE DIVERSITY
For years modelling agencies, designers & editors have tended to look to one body type and skin colour. However over the years there have been a number of black model figures who have led the way in changing the industry. There have been a number of black models making fashion history paving the way for a younger generation to feel accepted and included in fashion.
Dorothea Towels was born in Texarkana and was the first top black model to work in Paris after she was discovered by Christian Dior in 1949, becoming one of the most celebrated models in Europe. She was also a favourite amongst designers such as Pierre Balmain & Elsa Schaperelli.
Tumblr media
Models such as Sara Lou Harris, Donyale Luna and Mounia all made historial ‘firsts’ in the industry with Harris becoming the first black model to appear in an advert campaign, Luna becoming the first black model to appear on the cover of British Vouge and Mounia became YSL’s first ever Black Muse. All of these women are inspirational figures within the industry and paved the way for many other women in the industry throughout years gone by.

Models such as Naomi Campbell, Beverly Johnson, Tyra Banks & Iman to name a few all paved the way for the younger generation we see stepping onto the runways for recent shows.
Naomi Campbell:
Naomi Campbell was one of the most in demand models during the 1980′s & 1990′s. Campbell was the first black model to cover French Vouge and Time Magazine. She still continues to have a big influence on the industry today, speaking about her own experiences of discrimination and is a huge supporter of the BLM movement, using her platform to educate others.

Beverly Johnson
Beverly Johnson was the first ever black woman to cover American Vouge in 1974 as well as French Elle. She was named to be one of the most influential people in fashion of the 20th century. Her appearance on the cover of Vouge changed beauty standards in US print media and inspired lots of American designers to include black models on runways and in campaigns.

Tyra Banks
Tyra Banks became the first black model to appear on the cover for GQ and Sports Illustrated Magazines. She was also a Victoria Secret Angel, walking the runway for them during 1997 to 2005. Tyra has now gone on to have a successful career in television producing and hosting hit tv show America’s Next Top Model and now having her own talk show, The Tyra Banks Show.

Iman
Iman is one of the most recognisable supermodels of our generation, featuring on the cover of Vouge in 1976 and becoming a muse for many designers such as Gianni Versace, Calvin Klein, Donna Karen & Yves Saint Laurent.

British model Jourdan Dunn was named model of year at the British Fashion Awards and has become one of the most successful models in recent years. She has made fashion firsts which weren't seen for many years in the industry.
She was the first black model to walk for Prada in over a decade in 2008 for their fall/winter collection.

She was also the first black model to land a solo cover for UK Vouge in over 12 years for their February issue in 2015

DEFYING THE BEAUTY STANDARDS
Alek Wek is a South Sudanese model known for defying beauty standards with many looking up to her for showing a different kind of beauty that doesn’t conform with normal standards. She started her career at the age of 18 and became the first African American model to appear on the cover of Elle. During her career she has walked runways for brands such as Calvin Klein, Valentino and Marc Jacobs.

Aaron Rose Phillip is a Antiguan-American model with a big presence amongst the fashion industry. She became the first black, trans model with a disability to be represented by a major modelling agency in 2018. She made her New York Fashion Week debut for Moschino in their Spring 22 show. She wanted to enter the industry to allow others to find themselves on runways and in magazines as this is something she could not do when she was younger.

Plan - Moving Image
concept
My idea for this project is to create a perfume advert5, specifically a daisy perfume advert with the type of vibe you would get in a marc Jacobs advert for the perfume. I want to shoot on a sunny day to have a bright airy feel about the video and dress my model in a white dress like the girls in the adve4rt. the video will have a fun and pretty feel and show off the perfume as the main focus. I'll add some uplifting music to go with it. I’m going to use camera movement that are quite fluid and free hand so it doesn't seem too robotic.

Advertising shoot: perfume ad for Marc Jacobs
Here is a mood board and the finalised photoshoot for the perfume ad. As my target market is teens and young adults, I thought Marc Jacobs fitted perfectly due to its femininity and involvement of nature within their ads. However, I have twisted my shoot compared to theirs with a modern/early 2000s infusion to flow with the appearance of my magazine more; involving powerful eye make up, slick back hair and striking model poses. I have tried to copy a similar colour scheme to the Marc Jacobs perfect perfume.
what’s next with this advert? photoshop.
Staying on track with the layout of Marc Jacobs, the poster needs to look genuine. Minimalism is common within the brand (displayed on the mood board) so I need to consider that as well as choosing the correct imagery and quality.

Perfume Advert
This is my final design for my perfume advert, created using Photoshop. I did some research into existing adverts for Marc Jacobs and I found that they are generally quite minimalistic, oversaturated and warm in tone. They all seemed to have a sense of freedom and nature around the photos, with the perfume being the central focus.
I tried to imitate their style of editing in my advert through the use of warm tones and a deepened contrast. I also added a grain to the photo to give more of a vintage feel. I also edited the gold middle of the flower to erase the reflections of the camera. I also went over the branding details on the bottle to make them sharper and more clear. Some of their adverts had light coloured borders around them so I decided to incorporate this in my design, so I added a cream rectangle to the bottom that's the same colour as the flower. I then up the Marc Jacobs logo on top of this, as they have their branding on all of their adverts.
As the bottle of perfume that I used was quite small, I used perspective in order to make it appear larger and for it to become the centrepiece of the advert, much like the original adverts.
Overall, I am really happy with the outcome of the advert. I think the perfume is successfully the centre of the advert, and I believe I have managed to maintain the style and feminine energy of the original adverts. The only thing that I would change is centre of the flower as its come out more beige, than the gold colour it is meant to be.

It may be an ice-cold December day, but a glimmer of summer is in sight thanks to Marc Jacobs's new Daisy fragrance advert - a sunny, short film directed by Sofia Coppola to represent Jacobs's Daisy, Daisy Eau So Fresh and Daisy Dream scents and seen in our exclusive behind-the-scenes images here. Coppola was in fact the first ever face of Marc Jacobs fragrance, photographed by the designer's long-term collaborator Juergen Teller who also shot the print campaign to sit alongside Coppola's new advert. "Because I was in the fragrance ad when Marc started doing the perfume, it's funny now to be making a commercial for the Daisy fragrance," Coppola said. "I really enjoy doing a fragrance campaign because it's about atmosphere and personality. And it's so abstract." Starring in the campaign are models Malaika Firth, Ondria Hardin, Antonia Wesseloh and Sophia Ahrens - all of whom have nothing but praise for Coppola. "She's a great director - she tells you exactly what she wants but she also gives you space to have your own interpretation of it," says Ahrens, whilst Hardin praises the "light, airy" feel of the film which sees the girls skipping through streams and running up and down daisy-covered hills in nightdress-like white dresses that call to mind those in Coppola's directorial debut, The Virgin Suicides. "I kind of imagine maybe they've snuck out of their boarding school and they're running in the hills and lazing around together," Coppola explained of her vision. "I feel like fragrance is really important to your identity as a teenager - I was really into it, this idea of being a woman."

Tagged by @missoneminute, thanks lovely :)
Favourite song to sing/hum? I will sing along to literally any song, advert, jingle or whatever that I hear, and then it usually stays in my head for ages. ‘Shotgun’ by George Ezra makes an appearance a couple of times a week tbh
Favourite flower/tree/plant? I like daisies, roses, pink lilies, sunflowers... loads really, and trees/plants I can’t say I have a preference
Favourite colours? I really love pale pink at the moment
What do you always doodle? I don’t tend to doodle often tbh but when I do it’s usually hearts and flowers, and lyrics if that counts
How do you take your coffee/tea? I can’t even stand the smell of coffee cause it’s makes me want to chuck up, so I definitely don’t drink it. I don’t drink tea often, maybe a few times a year, but when I drink it I have it pretty pale with half a sugar (I don’t get tea! Give me a Coke Zero!)
Favourite candle scent? I’ve had to use loads lately after moving in to the new flat! I like quite strong scents, especially citrus and floral
Sunrise or sunset? I love a good sunrise, especially if I’m staggering home from a night out and get to enjoy it properly
What perfume do you wear? I will usually wear whatever I can afford tbh, but I love Marc Jacobs and Jimmy Choo
Favourite quote? "If you’ve lost your faith in love and music, the end won’t be long”
Favourite self care routine(s)? I’m really bad at self care routines tbh, and I’ve tried to get better at them, but I try to exercise for one hour each day, and have a day to myself each week
Fuzzy socks or house slippers? Fuzzy socks! Love them
What colour are your eyes? Blue
What’s your favourite eye colour on others? I’ve always had a thing for big brown eyes
Favourite season? Why? I like spring and autumn, because they always feel like seasons of big change, and I feel determined and positive
Cheek, neck, or nose kisses? Cheek kisses :)
Favourite breed of dog? I have to say Border Terriers seeing as I have two! I also love Jack Russells and Corgis
Do you ever want to be married? If so, what colours would you pick for your wedding theme? If I met the right person then maybe. Tbh, monogamy and relationships don’t appeal to me right now - I find it incredibly difficult to understand how someone can be completely obsessed with another person and (no offence to those in relationships!) I find it all very cringey. And I get bored easily. Also, I’m cheap and I don’t wanna spend loads of money on one day, haha!
Cursive or print? I don’t really mind
Favourite weather? Either cold and bright with no rain, or bright and hot with a nice breeze
Tagging @getaddictet @playit0ut @timeforher0es @moregininteacups @onelikelylad @kidintheriot @alora09 @lookthemoonissinging and anyone else who fancies a go x

When creating my perfume advertisement I wanted to focus on the concept of how a name could be translated into an advert. for this I chose Daisy by Marc Jacobs as I felt there was a lot to work with, with this concept.
Daisies are considered to a symbol for purity and innocence, I decided to focus on the innocence part for my colouring of the piece; innocence is often associated with children due to the fact that they aren’t aware of the more prominent issues of the modern world. This relates to my colour scheme as children will often use bright and bold colours in their work, I wanted to present different types of daisies all with their own unique colouring this helped to translate to my ideas about innocence and childhood because I could use the eyedrop tool to find the brightest tone of the different daisies to use as their main colouring.
Whilst I think the piece came out well I believe that I could have used a different concept that would have been jest as effective if not more so. The other ideas that I thought about was to do a photoshoot where a daisy stem was resting inside of the bottle with the flower leaning on the rim making it appear as the cap of the bottle rather than the artificial flower creation that sits on top of the bottle usually. However I found that this wasn’t possible, due to it being winter there where no natural daisy’s growing and so I couldn’t create this concept. I had considered the option of doing the daisy as a digital drawing but I ruled out this idea as I wasn’t sure how I would make the stem look like it was within the bottle as the glass would distort the image.
