If I’m interested in learning more about Pope John Paul II, do you have any good book recs? Love both of your blogs by the way!!
Thank you! I’m sorry that I didn’t see this question earlier; I always tend to overlook the papal blog because I’m so terrible at updating it.
There are tons of books about Pope John Paul II, so I’ll try to narrow the suggestions down to a handful:
•George Weigel’s two-volume biography of John Paul II is almost certainly the best-known and definitive studies of John Paul II’s life from Poland to the Vatican. The first volume, Witness to Hope: The Biography of Pope John Paul II (BOOK | KINDLE), was originally published in 1999 and tracks the Polish Pope from birth until the turn of the millennium.
The second volume of Weigel’s biography, The End and the Beginning: Pope John Paul II -- The Victory of Freedom, the Last Years, the Legacy (BOOK | KINDLE), was published in 2010 and devotes almost the entire first half of the book to an in-depth look at John Paul II’s lifelong crusade against Communism. The other half of the book focuses on the Pope’s final years as his health began to fail and as he seemingly used his very public physical deterioration as a lesson in suffering, humility, and strength until his death in April 2005.
In 2017, Weigel published another book -- Lessons In Hope: My Unexpected Life with St. John Paul II (BOOK | KINDLE) -- which isn’t a traditional biography, but a much more personal book about Weigel’s journey as the Pope’s biographer and his relationship with John Paul II over the years. It’s unique compared to his formal biographies because it shows John Paul II from a different, more human perspective than that of the infallible “Keeper of the Keys to Heaven”.
Some of the other books that I’ll suggest are very good, but they can also feel incomplete because John Paul II’s papacy lasted so long that the authors were only able to capture certain parts of his reign.
•His Holiness: John Paul II and the Hidden History of Our Time (BOOK | Kindle not available) by Carl Bernstein and Marco Politi is one of those books that is solid but not a complete history of the Pope’s reign because it was published in 1996, nearly 10 years before John Paul II’s death. And, yes, the co-author is the Carl Bernstein of Washington Post/Watergate/All the President’s Men/Woodward & Bernstein fame.
•John Paul the Great: Remembering a Spiritual Father (BOOK | Kindle not available) by former Ronald Reagan speechwriter Peggy Noonan was published shortly after John Paul II’s death in 2005 and is excellent. Noonan’s book is also very personal to the author and paints a portrait of John Paul II that helps us understand what he meant to so many people. Noonan also helps explain the source of the Pope’s unique charisma and how he used his immense natural political gifts to reach his audiences.
•The Pontiff In Winter: Triumph and Conflict in the Reign of John Paul II (BOOK | KINDLE) by John Cornwell is not the most flattering book about Pope John Paul II, but it is an important book to get a balanced understanding of his life and of the health of the Catholic Church towards the end of John Paul II’s papacy. Cornwell has long been one of the best connected Vatican journalists and this book is important because it questions how much blame should have or could have been placed on John Paul II for the scandals and corruption that simmered below the surface inside the Vatican throughout his reign.
•John Paul II: My Beloved Predecessor (BOOK | Kindle not available) is a short collection of writings and homilies by Pope Benedict XVI that he wrote about John Paul II over the years -- as Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger while John Paul II was alive, and as Benedict XVI after succeeding John Paul II in 2005. There’s nothing earth-shattering in the book, but it’s an interesting look at one Pope directly from the pen of another Pope.
•The last recommendation isn’t a book about Pope John Paul II, but a book written by John Paul II: The Place Within: The Poetry of Pope John Paul II (BOOK | Kindle not available). This book of poetry written by John Paul II at various points throughout his long life is an incredibly unique window into the soul of a Pope. Some of the poems -- which are translated into English from John Paul II’s native language of Polish by Jerzy Peterkiewicz -- are quite good! Like I said, it’s not a biography of John Paul II, but in many ways reading his poetry can be just as revealing.

Grief was no stranger to you — it ebbed and flowed with time; its currents ill-suited to travel for those who were heavily ladened with loss. That was where you came in, offering the comfort of your empathy and gift to those who remained stuck, and to those that passed on. It was how you met him, and it was how you became the light in his otherwise shadowed life.

Tending to spirits and those passed on was part of who you were. When you were a child, no older than ten years, you had experienced it for the first time – a lost spirit, a young little girl, had called out for help from the corner of your bedroom and had given you one hell of a fright.
She was crying for her mother and father, her dress in tatters and cheeks tear-stained. You learnt that she had wandered out of her family’s backyard and tumbled down an embankment and into a dam.
By the time her mother had found her, it was too late.
You spent the night consoling her, completely at sea for what was happening, and by sunrise, she had vanished into thin air. There were wisps of smoke in her wake, gliding in tendrils to the ceiling and through it.
Over the many years since that fateful night, you learnt that you were gifted – gifted with the ability to sense, see, and hear those that cannot pass on. And, it was how you met him.
The Grim Reaper was known and feared by all – the fear of the end, fear of the unknown, hell, fear of death itself.
You knew of the Grim Reaper, but not in the way that people would have expected.
“I know you’re there,” you whispered, crouching at the headstone of a decades old grave. The wind whistled quietly through the empty branches of the trees above you, and you looked over your shoulder, smiling slightly at the formless haze of black mist. “You can’t sneak up on me. You know that.”
“One of these days,” a deep voice said, and you could just hear the pout in their tone. “I will manage to surprise you.”
“I would hope not, Bucky.”
The haze warped and formed a solid body – a tall figure in a billowing cloak, a charming smile, and piercing blue eyes upturned in a dramatic eye roll. “Semantics.”
You stood from the grave and turned to face him, crossing your arms. Your show of defiance softened his gaze, and he smiled softly. The moon shone above, and under the curtain of his dark hair, you could see the wisps of smoke that made up his face falter and flicker, showing his true form.
“I have missed you, my darling,” Bucky whispered.
Bucky’s embrace was cold, but no less comforting as he squeezed you to his chest. “Me too,” you said, smiling at him as you pulled away. “I was just tidying up. Walk with me?”
“Of course,” Bucky smiled. The roses you had held in your hand felt all the lighter for his presence, and you grabbed his offered elbow, leading him down the row of old graves to place fresh roses when a quiet whoosh sounded behind you. Bucky looked over his shoulder, and his smile turned saddened. “I see you haven’t managed to help this little one.”
Following his gaze, you withered, sniffling slightly as you watched the little ball of bright mist follow in your footsteps. The sound of your grief gave Bucky pause, and his hand came to rest on your cheek. “What is it?”
“I miss them so much.” A flicker of despair shot through Bucky’s usually bright gaze, and you sobbed. “I can’t do it-”
“Breathe, darling,” Bucky urged, pulling you close. His arms were tight across your shoulders and back, and you broke; months of grief and pain hit you all at once. “I’m here, my precious. I have you. I’m so sorry.”
Bucky held you close, letting you grieve in his arms and absolve you of your pain. He knew how cruel it had been to take away your smallest, closest friend – he hadn’t wanted to do it, he had begged and pleaded for things to be different, but it didn’t work. Nature took its course, and he had cursed that day to high heaven.
Moments passed until you were finally able to breathe, and you clutched at his chest, his arms, just to feel him – to know he was real.
“Here,” Bucky said softly, and he gestured to the ball of mist until it brightened and expanded into the form of your best friend. “They can walk with us, after all,” he paused, a small smirk forming on his pale lips. "Not everyone cares as much as you for these souls, my darling. At least, not enough to leave flowers for those that have long since moved on.”
“Oh, baby,” you rushed, and Bucky let you go so you could kneel in front of the spirit of your best friend. “I have missed you.”
A quiet noise of greeting sounded from the mist, and Bucky pulled you gently to your feet, his free hand now holding the bouquet of roses. “What have you been up to?”
The two of you walked through the cemetery, placing roses at every grave that lay bare as you spoke and told him all about your life as a mortal, and Bucky hummed and occasionally interjected with a sly smile or a shake of his head. “How about you?” You asked, smiling at him.
Bucky only shrugged, the movement shifting his long hair and causing a stray wisp of mist to expose his shoulder. “It is as it always has been,” he offered, smiling sadly. “I can only offer so much comfort to those whose time has come, but they remain afraid of me nonetheless.”
“You’re kind, Bucky,” you hastened to say, pulling him to stop, and he looked into your face sullenly – defeated. “You always have been kind, and you have never taken someone when it wasn’t their time. You cannot help what nature intended, even if it hurts, I know that,” you added softly, staring down at the bright bounding form at both your feet. “Without you, it would be something else, and whatever they may be, they would not be as compassionate as you.”
“But they are afraid of me,” Bucky interjected, gesturing at himself. “I do not want to hurt them, I do not want to cause pain, I-”
“You are my Bucky. You are the love of my life, and even if I cannot truly have you, you will always have my heart – I am the moon,” you begin, clutching at his hands and giving them a slight shake. “My heart will always love and welcome the dark. You are not at fault for how nature is. Do you understand me?”
Silence echoed amongst the graves. Your heavy breaths made your shoulders rise and fall as you stared at Bucky, pleading for him to realise – to understand.
“Are you afraid of me?”
The question split your heart in half with its severity, and you exhaled sharply. “No.”
“No?”
“No,” you affirmed, stepping into his space. “No, I am not afraid of you and will never be afraid of you.”
The graveyard fell away, bit by bit, and you pulled Bucky into your chest. It wasn’t just you who was grieving, hurting with the heavy burden of pain. “Walk with me,” you whispered into Bucky’s hair. Taking hold of his hand, you pulled back to smile at him. “We have many more flowers to place.”
A heavy silence settled in the air while you guided Bucky through the headstones, smiling softly at the mist excitedly running amok at your feet still. The illumination of the moon lit your path to an ancient grouping of gravestones, the marble and stone crumbling under the weight of age. “I have to try and restore these,” you pondered aloud, gently touching one of the many splits in the stone, when you paused. You felt eyes watching you, and you looked up to see Bucky a step away, gazing at you sadly. “What?”
You tilted your head, frowning, but before you could open your mouth to speak, Bucky started, his voice laced with unfathomable pain. “I have to go, my darling, and I have to take them,” he gestured to the glowing mist with a pale hand, “with me.”
“I know.” Leaves crunched under your shoes as you knelt to face your best friend, and you felt the cold touch of their nose against yours. “I could never hate you, Bucky. Never.”
Bucky stepped closer then, and you rose to meet him. “After all, my love,” you began softly, moving your hands to hold his head and gaze. “I will see them again when my time comes. It’s not the end. It’s just goodbye for now.”
A heavy breath left Bucky’s lips, and you pulled him closer, kissing him tenderly and he kissed back in earnest, his hands moving to your waist to grip you tightly.
When Bucky pulled back, you stared at him through glassy eyes, and you felt the cold touch of his hand against your cheek as he brushed the tears away with his thumb. “My angel, always my strength.”
“Always,” you whispered, and Bucky smiled sadly.
“Until I see you again, my darling,” Bucky said, his form starting to waver. “I love you.”
“I love you more, Bucky,” you said, your voice stronger than you felt. The ball of mist at your feet made a soft sound, and you glanced down. “I will see you again, baby, you take care of Bucky for me, okay?” The mist bobbed up and down in the air and you grinned. “Thank you, baby.”
The mist that Bucky had appeared from took him away with another soft whoosh, and you fell to your knees, the burden of grief not lifted, but lightened.
For what is grief, if not the perseverance of love?

Cesena: "Le due Americhe" al Teatro Bonci
Tumblr media

Acumulan millones de streams en lanzamientos como Nu Deco Ensemble, Paint The Roses (Live In Concert) con Larkin Poe, A Live Sensation con Luke James, y Still Cruisin' - An Orchestral Tribute to The Beach Boys.

[ad_1] The large, obvious drawback this is that there’s not anything specifically new, or pro-worker, about this type of narrowly targeted, nonconfrontational affiliation with out a talent to cut price or negotiate. If anything else, those “worker involvement organizations” are a detailed cousin to “corporate unions,” which, neatly, exist already. Explicitly meant to undermine conventional unions, corporate unions had been deployed within the first many years of the twentieth century to defang and co-opt hard work militancy. When, in 1933, the government first identified the suitable of staff to cut price jointly — beneath Segment 7(a) of the Nationwide Commercial Restoration Act — employers spoke back with a vital enlargement of corporate unionism. In keeping with a 1937 survey of just about 600 corporate unions by means of the Bureau of Exertions Statistics, cited by means of the historian Irving Bernstein in “The Turbulent Years: A Historical past of the American Employee, 1933-1941,” “The nice majority had been arrange solely by means of control. Control conceived the speculation, advanced the plan, and initiated the group.” Of the 96 circumstances for which data was once to be had at the employer’s motives, Bernstein notes, “50 had been based on the N.I.R.A., 13 to a strike, and a couple of to a want to reinforce staff members of the family.”Common hostility to corporate unions amongst hard work supporters out and in of Congress — who argued, accurately, that corporate unions impeded the power of staff to arrange throughout a complete trade — produced Segment 8(a)(2) of the 1935 Nationwide Exertions Members of the family Act, which states that, “It might be an unfair hard work apply” for an employer to “dominate or intrude with the formation or management of any hard work group or give a contribution monetary or different reinforce to it.”After the N.L.R.B. dominated towards one corporate’s “motion committees” however made it transparent that worker organizations had been nonetheless criminal, Republicans in Congress handed the Teamwork for Workers and Managers Act of 1995 in an try to sidestep Segment 8(a)(2). The Rubio and Banks invoice is, in its essence, a model of the person who President Invoice Clinton vetoed in 1996. And, like its predecessor, the brand new invoice displays the Republican Celebration’s deep-seated opposition to arranged hard work.If an “worker involvement group” can not cut price and can not negotiate, and can also be dissolved at any level by means of the employer, then what objective does it serve rather then to subvert union organizers and channel employee unrest right into a entrance group for control? The similar is going for the nonvoting board consultant. With out energy to behave, what does it subject that somebody is allowed to look at and pay attention? Nazareno Sasia, 20.15 m. en lanzamiento de bala
Tumblr media
Paolo Recchia si è esibito come leader, guest e sideman in Festival e Jazz Club della scena italiana e negli Stati Uniti d’America, Cina, Francia, Romania, Germania, Inghilterra, Olanda, Serbia, Svizzera, Turchia, Russia insieme a Dado Moroni, Joel Frahm, Alex Sipiagin, Luca Mannutza, Andy Gravish, Roy Hargrove, Jeremy Pelt, Rick Margitza, Stephane Belmondo, Flavio Boltro, Fabrizio Bosso, Peter Bernstein, David Kikoski, Mark Sherman, Sam Yahel, Johannes Weidenmueller, Marco Panascia, Andrea Pozza, Claudio Filippini, Pat Bianchi, Frank Avitabile, Michel Rosciglione, Alain Jean-Marie, Aldo Bassi, Roberto Gatto,  Pietro Tonolo, Giovanni Tommaso, Lorenzo Tucci, Sam Yahel, Johannes Weidenmueller, Kengo Nakamura e molti altri.

With admiration to the grate artist and composer Armand Amar.Īrmand Amar (born 1953 in Jerusalem ) French composer, who grew up in Morocco.] He won the 2010 César Award for Best Music Written for a Film for Le Concert (Radu Mihaileanu).

JAZZMI: Zoe Pia in concerto con “Shardana” venerdì 30 settembre e sabato 1 ottobre a mosso milano
Tumblr media
