These elections are a good parallel to the marcos and duterte regimes.

My family's experience was okay - we endured very long lines and waiting times but we were able to vote without incident.

In many other places, voters were disenfranchised: vote-counting machines that malfunctioned and prevented voters from submitting their ballots for hours (or for the entirety of the voting period), staff or poll watchers insisting or even harassing people into leaving their ballots to them, violence that resulted in people being killed and destroyed ballots and machines, shaded ballots (with Leni Robredo being shaded) being destroyed many instances of election-related fraud correlating with regions where Leni Robredo had more support - and the Commission on Elections insisting that the elections were generally peaceful and clean.

Just because my election experience was peaceful doesn't mean it was peaceful everywhere. Just because my family's experience during the duterte regime was peaceful doesn't mean it was peaceful everywhere. Just because my parents' experience during martial law was peaceful doesn't mean it was peaceful everywhere.

I'm not one to engage in schadenfreude seeing our economy collapse while the President watches basketball games and throws surprise parties for his OTL, but I keep wondering where those folks are who changed their profile pictures to (blood) red on May 9th, mocked those who mourned, minimized their pain by saying "patawarin nyo na yung mga inunfriend nyo", and those religious friends who said the Marcoses deserve to be given another chance.

Kamusta ang presyo ng gasolina, ng asukal, ng bigas, ng galunggong, ng pamasahe? Ok pa? Kamusta ang denial sa inflation, ang kawalan ng direksyon sa education sector, ang misplaced priorities habang binabayo ng sunod-sunod na disaster ang Pilipinas? He's not a newbie in government; you cannot tell me he's still feeling his way in. He's been in public service since he was 23, more than 40 years ago.

You thought you could be spared by hanging out in your bubbles of privilege. This is not schadenfreude; I'm not laughing. Damay-damay tayo rito. Make better choices next time.

Sorry for the rant, but it's scary to think that an inexperienced candidate but an experienced liar (Hi Sir BBM!) with a questionable running mate and a senatorial slate filled with people with tainted reputations as public officials, can be sitting in our country's highest position. Ano na Pilipinas? Ayaw na ba nating makabangon? Marcos ulit? Jinggoy ulit? Robin Padilla? Jusko. Gadon? Another Duterte? Di pa ba tayo natuto? Daming casualties nitong pandemic. Nakita na natin na lack of experience, corrupt and egotistic leaders can do nothing good for the country. Sila na naman? We need clean and honest governance, someone who's willing to show the receipts. Yung sweldo natin ang laki nang kaltas na tax, tax na napuputa sa gobyerno para magawa nila yung dapat nilang gawin para maserbisyohan ang mga Pilipino pero napupunta lang sa pansiriling interes ng mga pulitiko. Kailangan natin nang pagbabago and it starts with choosing a good leader. Hindi lang puro salita pero may gawa din. Complete package dapat.
