bio: the trevelyans, despite originating from antiva, are one of the most prominent noble families of ostwick. because of their strong ties to the chantry, the family does not hesitate to send their children to the circle when they discover the gift of magic. luca felt betrayed when he was sent away at just 12 years old and left on bad terms with his mother, who he was extremely close with. growing up with his father's strong disdain for magic and fearmongering from the templars caused luca to develop a fear of his own magical abilities. luca's mother passes away from illness before luca has a chance to reconcile, intensifying the guilt, fear, and nightmares he already suffered with. before he was even considered to do his harrowing, he begs the templars to make him tranquil so he won't be a threat to anybody, and won't have to further deal with his pain. when kirkwall's circle rebelled, ostwick quickly followed suit, and luca was forced to join the rebels for his own survival. he eventually joins the senior enchanters at the divine conclave as an unbiased voice. when the anchor is accidentally fused with luca's hand, his severed connection with the fade was restored, curing him of his tranquility. after being tranquil for a decade, luca must relearn how to live, how to feel, and how to be a leader, as he's thrust into reverence as the only hope to save thedas.

bio: growing up, lilith had always had an immense and dangerous fascination with magic, and desperately wanted to learn it for herself. but there is not much a lowly street urchin can do when your main focus is surviving the day in a dirty, corrupt city. despite the hardships, lilith will always try to steal magical trinkets and tomes to try to teach herself magic. perhaps if she was strong enough, she would be able to make enough money for her and her mother to have a real home. however, lilith was caught stealing from a powerful noble, and - in a desperate attempt to save her daughter - lilith's mother takes the blame, resulting in her being cut down before lilith's very eyes. months pass and lilith is suddenly approached by a ghostly voice, claiming to be the spirit of her deceased mother. her mother's spirit says that she returned to watch over her daughter, and will be willing to teach her magic if lilith does what she is told. lilith accepts immediately, and is ecstatic that she is getting to two things she wants the most - her mother, and magic. unbeknownst to lilith, however, this apparition is not her mother. it is instead a fiend, taking advantage of a grieving orphan with a strong desire for magic, in order to manipulate her into doing its bidding. the fiend's goal is to feed lilith so much power that she eventually goes berserk, wreaking as much havoc as possible before she inevitably loses herself to the very magic she longed for.

May Sarton on the Cure for Despair and Why Solitude Is the Seedbed of Self-Discovery
Sometimes one has simply to endure a period of depression for what it may hold of illumination if one can live through it, attentive to what it exposes or demands.
“A great deal of poetic work has arisen from various despairs,” wrote Lou Andreas-Salomé, the first woman psychoanalyst, in a consolatory letter to the poet Rainer Maria Rilke as he was wrestling with depression, nearly a century before psychologists came to study the non-linear relationship between creativity and mental illness. A generation later, with an eye to what made Goethe a genius, Humphrey Trevelyan argued that great artists must have the courage to despair, that they “must be shaken by the naked truths that will not be comforted. This divine discontent, this disequilibrium, this state of inner tension is the source of artistic energy.”
Few artists have articulated the dance between this “divine discontent” and creative fulfilment more memorably than the poet, novelist, essayist, and diarist May Sarton (May 3, 1912–July 16, 1995). In her Journal of a Solitude (public library), Sarton records and reflects on her interior life in the course of one year, her sixtieth, with remarkable candour and courage. Out of these twelve private months arises the eternity of the human experience with its varied universal capacities for astonishment and sorrow, hollowing despair and creative vitality.
In an entry from September 15, 1972, Sarton writes:
“It is raining. I look out on the maple, where a few leaves have turned yellow, and listen to Punch, the parrot, talking to himself and to the rain ticking gently against the windows. I am here alone for the first time in weeks, to take up my “real” life again at last. That is what is strange—that friends, even passionate love, are not my real life unless there is time alone in which to explore and to discover what is happening or has happened. Without the interruptions, nourishing and maddening, this life would become arid. Yet I taste it fully only when I am alone...”
She considers solitude as the seedbed of self-discovery:
“For a long time now, every meeting with another human being has been a collision. I feel too much, sense too much, am exhausted by the reverberations after even the simplest conversation. But the deep collision is and has been with my unregenerate, tormenting, and tormented self. I have written every poem, every novel, for the same purpose—to find out what I think, to know where I stand.
[…]
My need to be alone is balanced against my fear of what will happen when suddenly I enter the huge empty silence if I cannot find support there. I go up to Heaven and down to Hell in an hour, and keep alive only by imposing upon myself inexorable routines.”
In another journal entry penned three days later, in the grip of her recurrent struggle with depression, Sarton revisits the question of the difficult, necessary self-confrontations that solitude makes possible:
“The value of solitude—one of its values—is, of course, that there is nothing to cushion against attacks from within, just as there is nothing to help balance at times of particular stress or depression. A few moments of desultory conversation... may calm an inner storm. But the storm, painful as it is, might have had some truth in it. So sometimes one has simply to endure a period of depression for what it may hold of illumination if one can live through it, attentive to what it exposes or demands.”
In a passage that calls to mind William Styron’s sobering account of living with depression, Sarton adds:
“The reasons for depression are not so interesting as the way one handles it, simply to stay alive.”
Perhaps Albert Camus was right in asserting that “there is no love of life without despair of life,” but this is a truth hard to take in and even harder to swallow when one is made tongueless by depression. In an entry from October 6, still clawing her way out of the pit of darkness, Sarton considers the only cure for despair she knows:
“Does anything in nature despair except man? An animal with a foot caught in a trap does not seem to despair. It is too busy trying to survive. It is all closed in, to a kind of still, intense waiting. Is this a key? Keep busy with survival. Imitate the trees. Learn to lose in order to recover, and remember that nothing stays the same for long, not even pain, psychic pain. Sit it out. Let it all pass. Let it go.”
By mid-October, Sarton has begun to emerge from the abyss and marvels at the transformation in a beautiful testament to the finitude and transitoriness of all things, even the deepest-cutting and most all-consuming of states:
“I can hardly believe that relief from the anguish of these past months is here to stay, but so far it does feel like a true change of mood—or rather, a change of being where I can stand alone.”
Echoing Virginia Woolf’s memorable insight into writing and self-doubt—the same self-doubt with which Steinbeck’s diary is strewn—Sarton considers the measure of success in creative work:
“So much of my life here is precarious. I cannot always believe even in my work. But I have come in these last days to feel again the validity of my struggle here, that it is meaningful whether I ever “succeed” as a writer or not, and that even its failures, failures of nerve, failures due to a difficult temperament, can be meaningful. It is an age where more and more human beings are caught up in lives where fewer and fewer inward decisions can be made, where fewer and fewer real choices exist. The fact that a middle-aged, single woman, without any vestige of family left, lives in this house in a silent village and is responsible only to her own soul means something. The fact that she is a writer and can tell where she is and what it is like on the pilgrimage inward can be of comfort. It is comforting to know there are lighthouse keepers on rocky islands along the coast. Sometimes, when I have been for a walk after dark and see my house lighted up, looking so alive, I feel that my presence here is worth all the Hell.”

if you don't mind i would love to hear about Mayari!! what's her story? and she's an inquisitor right? who are her friends in the inquisition??
I don't mind at all ^_^ ty!
She's technically an NPC in the story for my Trev, Gabe! But I am planning on making her in DAI and doing a run because I just love playing the game djdjdj
I have two ideas for a backstory but this is the one I'm going with for the moment:
Her inquisitor run and her Canon backstory is p much the same. Her family comes from Seheron and she is the eldest of three. They had a fishing business at a Port city (hence her surname Tabingdagat which means "by the sea" in Tagalog). A Tevinter attack destroyed that section of the port and they lost everything. So her family immigrated to Ostwick to start over. Mayari was about 8.
However, there was too much competition with already established businesses so her family struggled and food was scarce. Mayari is a mage so she got caught doing magic in the market district and someone called the Templars. Her parents urged her to go with them because they were under the belief that at least she would have shelter and be fed. This hurt Mayari - but she went. Her family promised to keep in contact, but most commoners lose contact with their family in the Circle, so unfortunately she did too.
Mayari accepted her fate. She didn't like being in the Circle, but since the age of 9 it's all she ever knew. Her magic was mediocre and she barely passed her Harrowing. So she focused on alchemy and herbology instead. However she did make very good friends: Magda Otranto, Gabe Trevelyan and Langdon. You can read about them here!
In her Canon worldstate, after the Circles fell, she and her friends get separated from Gabe when they escaped. They ended up in Redcliffe with Fiona and got caught up with Alexius. They end up joining the Inquisition when Gabe sides with the mages.
In her inquisitor run, she and her friends make it to Ferelden with Gabe. Langdon is hurt by one of the Blighted wolves so they take shelter in an abandoned cabin near Temple of Sacred Ashes. Mayari and Magda go look for help, but they get separated. Mayari ends up at the Temple and we all know what happens there. Her friends remain safe because they were far from the blast, including Magda. And ofc they immediately join the Inquisition when she becomes the Herald. I just ended up loving their friendship so I couldn't have them die 😭 haha.
As for her friends outside her circle buds, in canon she and Langdon are buddies with Adan because they ended up all working together. She also befriends Dagna and the Singquisition. Idk yet about the inner circle, I'm gonna see how it goes down when I do her playthrough ^_^

How does Maria react to Alexandra wanting to know everything about her world? Constantly asking her questions and bust being amazed by everything?
t’would depend on timing, me thinks. If Alexandra’s asking after everything too soon to Maria’s arrival in Thedas, then Maria’s trying to avoid thinking about home in order to commit to what needs doing. I can see Maria being reluctant and saying as little as possible.
But if it’s after Maria’s been in Thedas for a couple months, then she’s gonna be more open to sharing everything since she’s had time to settle into her new world and deal with the conflicting emotions and thoughts of being a possible Savior for Thedas.
And it also depends on what Alexandra’s asking after LOL Maria might go completely mind breaking and show mirrored memories of Storybroke just to see the reaction.
But also I see Maria absolutely enjoying having someone magical she can be open to about the difference in magic and how to adapt her knowledge to the Magical Rules of Thedas.
