Hewwo, if someone wants to get into Touhou what would you recommend them to start with?
the Embodiment of Scarlet Devil is usually going to be my suggestion. It can be a bit tough for new players because you need to play it on Normal to actually be able to beat the game, but I think that helps encourage players to improve. My suggestion is to first play the game on Easy and get to the end of Easy mode, then keep trying Normal until you can beat Remilia. It’s a good game to start with because there aren’t any intrusive gimmicks like some of the games following it have and it will familiarize you with Touhou’s most iconic cast.
If EoSD is too hard, Imperishable Night is the most beginner-friendly Touhou game. It’s also fun for new players because it has 8 total playable characters, the most amount of new characters introduced in a Touhou game, and it has a phenomenal soundtrack.
If you want to start reading Touhou literature, Curiosities of Lotus Asia was the first Touhou book ZUN published. It’s a short novel told by the perspective of Rinnosuke Morichika and is a good way to gauge how many of the characters act outside of the games. It’s probably the best book to start with. If you don’t want to read a novel, Eastern and Little Nature Deity was the first manga.
ZUN has also released a series of music CDs that have stories connected to them. They’re set in the near future in the Outside World, following the Hifuu Club and their adventures to uncover the mysteries of Maribel Hearn’s powers and to find a way into Gensokyo. ZUN’s first CD was Dolls in Pseudo Paradise, but that story doesn’t have anything to do with the Hifuu Club. The Hifuu Club stories don’t start until the second album, Ghostly Field Club.

Do you have any thoughts (or headcanons) on Emmeryn for like. writing her? The game gives us so little, I have a lot of trouble with it, but I refuse to give up and write her out!
OH MAN I HAVE A TON OF THOUGHTS ON WRITING EMMERYN I honestly love getting to play around with her and I wish I had more opportunities to really do so.
She may look frail, but much like Lissa, she's not delicate, and actually a lot stronger than she appears. Emmeryn experienced firsthand what her father's strength could do when he used it carelessly, and she had made every effort to be gentle in all matters; however, when her emotions are running particularly high, she can slip and be more forceful (things like hugging her brother extra tight when he gets back from a dangerous mission because she's just so relieved to see him safe).
Similarly, while she may appear calm and measured, it's actually a mask that she's spent years perfecting, starting with interactions with her father and proceeding through her early years as Exalt. Emmeryn is much more emotional than she lets on, but she's had to be this perfect icon for so many people in her life -- a guardian for her siblings, a leader to the Ylissean people -- that it's become habit by now to wear it. When the mask does slip, it's usually because something has pushed her to a breaking point (though her partners can see the full measure of her trust in them when she purposefully sheds it).
Mask or not, Emm is a very compassionate person, and despite her cultural upbringing, she makes every effort to treat everyone -- regardless of their history or heritage -- with kindness and respect. Because of this, she tends not to react instantaneously to anything: whatever her gut reaction is, she does not voice it, instead taking a moment to examine it before speaking so that she can avoid causing offense with a thoughtless remark.
Emm is a pacifist: she has no intention of making war the way her father did, only of defending her nation's borders when needed. This does not, however, make her a pushover: Emmeryn is much more stubborn than her brother, and staunchly refuses to back down when she sets her mind to something. We get at least a glimpse of this when news arrives about Maribelle's kidnapping: she turns both her brother and the captain of the pegasus knights down when they insist on making Gangrel pay, insisting instead on speaking with Gangrel directly to try finding a way to peace.
This can, however, be something of a double-edged sword. Emm's pacifism extends to the point where she hesitates to use the power that she has at her command, having seen the horrors wrought by its abuse under her father. This can lead to its own kind of abuse -- specifically by those who realize that they'll never be punished for disobedience because she won't bring her power to bear against them. This rarely happens out in the open, of course, but I suspect that it's much more widespread than she would ever want to believe.
Above all else, Emmeryn loves her siblings and her country. She walks the street without any barriers between herself and her people, clear proof of her trust and affection for them. I suspect that, along with her routine bureaucratic and legislative duties, she makes time whenever she's able to hold audiences for the common folk, listen to their grievances, and offer what aid she can to ease their burdens. She recognizes that they are the heart of the nation, and Ylisse would crumble without their support; her popularity stems in no small part to how she tends to their needs, rather than prizing the nobility over all else as her father had.
Again, though, this is something of a double-edged sword, as she has not done herself any favors with the nobles. Between the way she favors the common folk and her stubborn refusal to give them the benefits they got used to under the former Exalt; while they're polite to her face, more than one noble is frustrated by how she's chosen to rule the halidom. Their pushes to have her marry are not only so that she will have an heir to continue the Exalted Lineage, but in hopes that her spouse will be able to wrench some measure of favor back to the family that weds her; on top of that, some have far more wicked plots to depose her entirely, like the hierarch who sold her out to Gangrel for the likely promise of power.

Where's Daryl's wing vest? s1e1 and s1e5 spoilers below
In the first episode we saw Daryl put his wing vest in the canvas sack he found on the boat. Next time we see it Guillaume (the old dude) was pulling it out of the sack along with the apples they traded for his medical kit and Daryl's English/French translation book--important later--after they killed the guerriers and knocked Daryl out so he and Maribelle (the "what's crackin' noob" lady) could rob him.
Later we see Maribelle and Guillaume walking along carrying Daryl's sack and reading out of Daryl's translation book. So they obviously picked up his bag and his book before Isabelle scared them off with her Nun-gun. But did they pick up his vest too? Because Codron killed Guillaume who had Daryl's bag, which Daryl's vest either is or isn't in, and then we see his body but not the bag. Did one of the guerriers take it or is the bag just hidden by his body?
Later when Maribelle takes them to the campsite where they robbed Daryl I didn't see the vest on the ground. Maribelle wasn't wearing her bag which makes the guerriers taking her and Guillaume's (Daryl's) bag seem more likely. But now all of the guerriers except Codron are dead, and I didn't see the bag in any of the vehicles the dead ones left behind, so does Codron have Daryl's vest in the car he fled in?
So is it left in the camp, or is it next to a dead body in the road, or is it in the abandoned vehicles or does Codron have it? Did Isabelle find it at the campsite and keep it and not mention it to Daryl for "you're the messenger" reasons? Has Daryl somehow had it all this time but lost it when captured alongside Laurent? Is the mystery of the missing vest going to be solved in the final episode or will it carry on to season 2?
This isn't a complaint btw. I like Daryl's new cozy cottage core look. He's the most badass hobbit in the shire. It's just that it's an iconic part of an iconic character and I'm almost as attached to Daryl's vest as he is. I was upset just seeing the damage the ocean had done to the blue wing Judith painted. And people keep stealing it from him. The Claimer wanted it. Dwight stole it and wore it for a few episodes. Most recently one of the French sailors stole it since he was so sure Daryl was gonna be walker food.

Posting this article because I've noticed that many of you have a lot of questions about actors and the process that happens when their jobs require them to do a kissing scene and I think you'll be able to find the majority of the answers you need here.

Do Actors Really Kiss?
BY CHRIS FRAWLEY | LAST UPDATED: JUNE 24, 2022
For new and aspiring actors, the prospect of playing a role that involves kissing can be daunting. One of the first questions you’ll most likely ask is: Do actors actually kiss? This can be a major concern if you’re uncomfortable with the idea of being intimate with someone you may just be meeting for the first time.
So, do actors really kiss? Short answer: It depends. They usually do some form of kissing, but there are ways to get around it (more on that later).
Whether you wind up locking lips with another actor or not, there’s a lot that goes into kissing scenes that you should know about.
How are kissing scenes made?
The mechanics of kissing scenes vary wildly; the famous Tobey Maguire–Kirsten Dunst upside-down “Spiderman” kiss required different logistics than the three-way Gael García Bernal–Diego Luna–Maribel Verdú “Y Tu Mamá También” kiss, for example. Scene tone and rhythm, magnetism, and kissing style are the main elements that factor into any kissing scene.
Scene tone and rhythm: Matching the kiss with the tone and rhythm of the scene is the most significant factor; you don’t want to bring the hilariously awkward Kathryn Hahn–John C. Reilly “Step Brothers” kissing energy to a scene that calls for Kate Winslet–Leonardo DiCaprio “Titanic” romantic kissing (or vice versa). Your director or intimacy coordinator may instruct you on how they want your kiss performed, or they may leave it to the discretion of you and your castmate. Don’t forget: the timing and intensity must be just right for the scene to work.
Magnetism: Actions like maintaining eye contact, holding each other, gradually leaning in, slightly opening your mouth, or puckering your lips during the lead-up help visibly create magnetism between you and your partner that will elevate the chemistry of the kiss.
Kissing style: After you decide how to dress the kiss, figure out if it should be open- or closed-mouth. Unless the scene explicitly calls for it, keeping your tongue to yourself is usually a good idea.
If you’re acting out a tender love affair, consider making the kiss delicate and drawn-out. When a sudden burst of passion is called for, try going for it with reckless abandon. With longer kisses, you may want to mix it up; try breaking it off before going back in or moving from closed-mouth to open-mouth. In all cases, work with your scene partner to figure out what feels natural and comfortable.
How do I prepare for a kissing scene?
Considering how complicated kissing can be off-camera, it’s important to prepare for your onscreen kiss before lips meet lips. Having a familiarity with the script, rapport with your scene partner, good oral hygiene, and openness with your real-life partner, if you have one, will all help prepare you for a kissing scene.
Know the story: Understanding the dramatic weight behind a kissing scene will help you get in the right mindset to perform. Without this knowledge, the moment may fall flat. For example, in “The Notebook,” Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams play a couple whose relationship is riddled with hardship and tragedy. But despite many setbacks, their passion endures, culminating with a heated confrontation and an iconic rain-drenched kiss. What makes the moment so impactful? The lead-up. When the two embrace, they release the emotional pressure that has been building up between them, making the kiss more than just a kiss.
Break the ice with your kissing partner: Review the scene with your castmate before rehearsals begin. Discussing the kiss, joking around, and building a rapport can go a long way toward nurturing the all-too-crucial chemistry that will make your fictional romance believable. If you both stay friendly, respectful, communicative, and professional, the scene is more likely to go smoothly.
Keep it clean: Practice good oral hygiene if you’re participating in a kissing scene. Floss, brush your teeth, and rinse with mouthwash before rehearsals and performances. (Of course, if you’re like Jennifer Lawrence, you can play a prank on your Liam Hemsworth and chow down on some tuna and garlic before your kiss to cause a chuckle—but we don’t recommend this as standard practice.)
Be honest in your relationship: If you’re in a romantic relationship, discuss your kissing scene with your real-life partner(s) in advance. Knowing that your partner is aware of the kissing scene ahead of time will make you more comfortable when it takes place.
Do actors rehearse kissing scenes?
Actors may be asked to practice kissing scenes during rehearsal to resolve any issues, or they may be asked to hold off so the kiss feels organic. Usually, a director will request that the scene be rehearsed (or not) and discuss that choice with the actors until a decision or compromise is reached. Intimacy coordinators can assist with this process during rehearsals by emphasizing technique, consent-forward frameworks, safety, and open communication.
While you may be able to fake kissing for some or all your rehearsals, it’s usually a good idea to try the real deal out at least once before shooting for several reasons:
To break any anticipation brewing between you and your castmate
To figure out each other’s bodily rhythm and sync up. If you’re not moving at the same pace, it’ll throw the scene out of whack.
To practice your kiss in front of your peers in a constructive setting prior to a performance, when the pressure will be higher
Before and during rehearsals, you and your castmate should discuss all the details of kissing we mentioned earlier. Outline your boundaries and talk about where you can touch each other (on the shoulders, waist, thighs, or even lips only) before you start getting physical. After rehearsal, go over the scene with them. Did you feel good about it? Were you uncomfortable? Let them know!
Can actors refuse kissing scenes?
Actors may hesitate to kiss another actor for a myriad of personal reasons, including sexuality, religion, relationship status, germophobia, or fear of an orally transmitted disease. You are within your rights to refuse a kissing scene, but the director will also be within their rights to find an actor who will perform the scene as written.
Many directors are empathetic when it comes to the concerns of their actors. Be honest with them about your reservations. If they’re aware of how you feel, they might adapt the rehearsal environment to make you more comfortable.
What are some alternatives to kissing?
If your anxiety over locking lips begins to overwhelm you, here are a few options for avoiding it altogether:
The stage kiss: In this technique, one actor cups the other’s face in a way that appears natural and romantic before drawing them in. Right before they connect, the former places their thumb over the latter’s lips so that no direct mouth-to-mouth contact occurs.
Blocking: The director can position you in relation to the camera or audience in a way that disguises what’s going on up close.
A blackout: If you’re working on the stage, the technical director can cut the lights just as the kiss is supposed to occur. If you and your partner are positioned to suggest a kiss is happening, the audience will fill in the blank with their imagination.
A stunt double: This only works if you’re filming, and it’s highly circumstantial. Not only will you need someone who you are comfortable kissing on hand, they’ll also have to look like the actor they’re standing in for.
A different action: Your director may be willing to substitute a kiss for another physically intimate movement that conveys the same meaning, such as a loving embrace.
Unfortunately, not every director will bend the rules for you. If everything else fails, maybe the part just isn’t for you. You can always try to find another role within the production and leave the kissing to someone else.

-WILHELM’S TOMATOES. If I ever got a tattoo for a fanfiction, I'm like 90% sure it would be Wilhelm's tomatoes. I fucking love those tomatoes. (Dani will talk me out of this one, I'm sure, but the thought will always be there)
- Oh the swim shorts debate is making me shriek with laughter
-Why am I emotional about sunscreen?
- I want to give Simon such a big hug. I won’t because he needs space and to not be touched, but I want to.
- Aww a surprise getaway
-PROPOSALS
- They’re so mature talking about Zuzia. I love it. My kink is healthy communication and they're checking the boxes.
- Security must be so fed up with these two horny princes at this point.
- I love their love. I want to love their love forever and I will.

Maribel Hearn and Renko Usami
Tumblr media
In addition to the games, ZUN has released a number of albums. These albums contain a mix of new songs, and old favorites from Touhou. The albums all have a story set in the future of outside world Japan, starring two college girls named Renko Usami and Maribel Hearn.
The future they live in, while not quite 1984 or Handmaid's Tale, is still pretty bleak. Children don't smile anymore, all food is artificial, and the entire world is suffering the declining birthrate Japan suffers now. There are tours to the moon but they cost $3 million a visit so it's nothing but pointless information to the average Joe. Oh and all beer is non-alcoholic. That's the worst part.
Maribel Hearn is a European foreign exchange student in Japan. Her name is apparently too hard for Renko to pronounce normally, so she just calls her "Merry". She's a psychology major at the University of Kyoto. Throughout her whole life, she's been able to see the boundaries between things. The border between here and there, then and now, light and darkness, humans and youkai, or life and death. Apparently she was born with these powers, and they are hereditary, but she's kept them a secret for fear of being ostracized by society. Not that she has many friends besides Renko anyway. She often travels to Gensokyo in her dreams, and has seen many iconic locations and has been attacked by a number of youkai. She's not sure whether the dreams are real or not, or if they're the only real thing and her current life is the dream.
Renko Usami is Merry's closest companion. She and Merry co-founded a group called the Secret Sealing Club, a club that discusses the occult and the possibility of other dimensions. They're the only members. She's a theoretical physics major, though in the future there isn't much to theorize about. Pretty much everything is in one super unified theory. She's a lot more headstrong than Merry, as well as viewing things in a more rational sense. She believes what Merry is seeing is real, and tells Merry to make the dream she desires most the real one. She also has an unexplained ability, to be able to tell the time by looking at the stars, and the latitude and longitude by looking at the position of the moon. This effectively makes her a walking GPS.
Together they explore the nature of Merry's abilities, the future they live in, and strange esoteric sites. With each album Merry has been growing in power and control over her abilities, and has been able to take Renko on trips to the moon, Gensokyo, an abandoned overgrown space station, and even back in time to prehistory. They've self-published a collection of their misadventures under the pseudonym of "Dr. Latency", though it may have been embellished to sound more exciting than what actually happened.
Now... the fact that Maribel can travel back in time... her last name is Hearn, there's a woman who looks a lot like her with absolute mastery of boundary manipulation named Yakumo, Merry wants to make her dreams a reality, Yukari is one of the founders of Gensokyo... hmm. I wonder what the connection is.
But if Merry goes on to become Yukari... then what happened to Renko?

I want to ask many, but I will ask few...for now?
2. BEASTS - Who is your favourite OC?
14. EARTH - What inspires you most?
27. ICE - Are you cruel to your characters?
34. MUNDANE - Would you survive in the shoes of your main character?
Oooh, thanks for asking! :D
2. BEASTS - Who is your favourite OC?
Just ooone? But I have so many! I love all my children equally! . . . that said, Tenacity-in-Resolution-of-the-Undertaking is the icon of this blog for a reason I suppose ;;^^ Tenacity is quiet. She is a demon princess. She is not good at social conventions and graces. She wields an existentially horrifying power. She is singularly focused on a goal and will sacrifice anything for it. That goal is mystifying, and she refuses to explain it. She is also inching closer to you. She is about to ask if you want to be friends. She wants to tell you things about magic for the next five hours.
14. EARTH - What inspires you most?
Hmm. It's honestly hard to tell at this point, my mind is such a hodgepodge of nonsense. I suppose my best ideas come from thinking about sapphic relationships and what kind of weird situation I could forge one in next. I'll just be thinking about I dunno, robots, or dragons, or submarines, and thinking 'how do I build a fun story around this and make it lesbian?'
27. ICE - Are you cruel to your characters?
I often wish I were able to be crueller so that my characters would feel a bit less like they had plot armour. I've done some variously nasty things to them. People have lost limbs, had their fates rewritten, been bodily transformed against their will, lost status and loved ones. But so far, death has proven . . . difficult.
It'll have to happen eventually . . .
34. MUNDANE - Would you survive in the shoes of your main character?
Okay let's see, from all my current projects -
Tectomancy Saga PoVs - Releine - No. I am not physically fit enough to survive being Releine. Almyra - Maybe? If I have the same abilities she has, then it's possible. I live the lazy Princess life already! Ellimane - Again, I lack the physical fitness, and also the cunning and survival skills. Maribelle - Maybe. If I can bluff my way through inventing things. Yurhagh - No. Selgg has killed me before I finished writing this sentence. Others - Naenia - Likely. Given the powers of a Death, I may have a leg up on her purely by having some social skills! Fay - I have no clue how to pilot a mech. I am going to crash, immediately, the second I get into the cockpit.

The Mosley Review: The Flash
Tumblr media
Oh how the DCEU has had its ups and many downs. Each character for the most part has taken a turn in the spotlight and now we finally get a solo film for our favorite scarlet speedster and it was as fun and exciting as I hoped it would be. The excellent opening sequence sets the sometimes quirkie and hilarious tone of the film that is very reminiscent of Back to the Future. I was especially surprised by the emotional depth the film carried for not only the titular character, but the supporting characters as well. If you know The Flash's history through comics, animation or the excellent CW series, don't worry. This film follows a familiar plot point, but takes a fresh approach to it. The consistent pacing of this multiversal adventure was great and I loved when it actually slowed down to deliver the thematic elements of choice and living with your past. Not all the characters worked but the ones that do, steal the film and get you excited to see how they react as the story progressed.
Tumblr media
Ezra Miller came off more as Wally West humor and personality wise in earlier films but in this film, he finally plants his feet firmly in the role of Barry. Ezra takes Barry on the familiar emotional rollercoaster of his origin story and it was fun to see a fresh take. I loved his balanced amount of humor and heart in many great moments with his father Henry, portrayed by the wonderful Ron Livingston. The chemistry between them really hammered home the motivation and emotional turmoil of Barry's decisions. Ezra does double duty as Barry deals with a younger alternate version of himself and it was a great mirror for him to look into. Their interactions made older Barry more mature and centered. Ben Affleck reprises his role as Bruce Wayne / Batman and I enjoyed the mentor nature of their friendship the most in this film. It carries over from both Zack Snyder and Joss Whedon's versions of the Justice League film so well and it was great to see Ben again. The great Michael Keaton returns as the 1989 Bruce Wayne / Batman and he hasn't skipped a beat. He has evolved the character in a fascinating way and I liked what he became. It answers the question that many have had. What would retired Bruce Wayne / Batman be like? When you finally see him move and fight in his new batsuit, he shines and is as badass as you remember. I couldn't get enough of him and I loved that he acknowledges his mortality in many great scenes. Sasha Calle was fierce, strong and a massive standout as Kara Zor-El / Supergirl. I loved the much darker and violent take on the character as we get to see a more stoic version of the character through her intense eyes. There is so much more to mine out of that character and it is a shame that we will never get to see her interact with Henry Cavill's Superman. Now the one person that stole my heart as the emotional core of the film, Maribel Verdú as Nora Allen. I loved every second we got of her and especially the grocery store scene. It is the emotional peak of the film and both her and Ezra delivered in spades.
Tumblr media
The score by Benjamin Wallfisch was good and kept the sense of speed and tension alive during the many action sequences and the emotional core alive in the more tender scenes. It was great to once again hear Danny Elfman’s iconic Batman theme and I loved Benjamin’s use of it. I did have a bit of a problem with the pacing in some scenes. The pacing of the film was great as it moves at a brisk pace as expected, but I would've loved for it to slow down for a few more seconds toward the last 20 minutes of the film. You could almost feel the amount of fat that was trimmed off the film in some scenes. Visually the film was stunning and of course most will comment on the CGI in the film. Some of it was really cartoony in the still shots, but it worked the best while in Barry's speed vision. The cameos all are amazing and one in particular made my heart flutter with joy as I know the late filmmaker Jon Schnepp would've approved and loved as well. This was a quick paced and action packed story that featured an emotional core that shines bright over the impressive visuals. There is a fun end credit scene that conitnues that connectivity that Barry has with the rest DCEU. Let me know what you thought of the film or my review in the comments below. Thanks for reading!
