I would humbly like to congratulate my deeply beloved favourite song "We Don't Talk About Bruno" on surpassing "Let It Go" on Disney's top hits. This is very well deserved and I'm so proud.

Tumblr media
Carefully, Mirabel walked around Bruno's hideout behind the walls of la casita. Her gaze fell on a small crack in the wall through which she could make out the dinner table.
Slowly beginning to understand, she looked down, seeing a drawn plate on the table. And that's when she knew. Bruno had never wanted to leave. He had been lonely all these years behind these walls. Of course he had been. And he had done it all because of that one vision. Saddened by the thought her gaze moved further and fell on a tiny table with a faded picture and a glowing green plate that looked a lot like the one she had fixed just hours earlier. Slowly, Mirabel stepped closer.
"Oh, no no, that is...", Bruno started, but Mirabel interrupted him.
"Tía (y/n)."
Bruno who had just stood up, one hand stretched out to prevent her from seeing the shelf sighed and let his shoulders sack. Slightly embarrassed he averted his gaze.
Suddenly he looked even sadder than before. Mirabel thought she saw him blink away a few tears.
"I loved her, you know? No, I mean I... I still love her." His voice was merely a whisper. He looked back up at Mirabel and she could see the pain in his eyes. "Even when she stopped coming here, there wasn't a single day when I didn't think about her", he finally admitted and it felt good to say it out loud after all these years.
However, where he felt lighter Maribel felt a heavy feeling form in her chest. He had given up so much and missed it all so deeply. What this man felt for her tía (y/n) felt absolutely pure and sincere to Maribel. That's when she knew she couldn't just leave him here behind the walls.
"I even tried to draw her, what do you think?"
"What?" Maribel looked back at the tiny shelf he had created for (y/n) and her gaze fell onto a few drawings she had previously assumed had been old drawings made by herself or Luisa when they had been around five years old. Isabellas drawings would have been perfect of course. However, drawing also didn't seem to be Brunos strongsuit, so Mirabel just nodded and laughed awkwardly at the sight of them. He really had been behind here for a tiny bit too long.
But then her gaze moved further over to the photography. It had faded over the years, but her tía still looked beautiful on it. And in contrast to the drawings one could actually recognise her. She was younger and her hair longer, but it was definitely her.
Yet, what actually had caught her attention from the beginning was the lightly glowing green plate next to it.
Maribel carefully stepped closer and as Bruno noticed, he once again half-heartedly stretched out a hand to pull her back, but she was already holding it, staring at the image in front of her with fascination.
It showed what was without a doubt her tía, looking back at her with a big smile. She looked infinitely happy.
And she was wearing a wedding gown. Mirabel was lost in the view of it and slowly turned around to her uncle.
"I had this vision after I left", he admitted. "She looked so beautiful, I couldn't get myself to destroy it. I always figured, if she'd finally be happy and marry someone else, I could at least keep this as a last memory, sort of. If it couldn't be me who..." He trailed off and chuckled nervously. "But well, can't change the future, so why think about it too much. Knock on wood". He knocked himself gently on the head.
Mirabel looked back at the vision of her tía. "But tía (y/n) never married."
"She will", Bruno sighed. "And maybe its for the best. She deserves to be this happy."
"But... she loves you."
He didn't reply but his heart broke a little as he thought of her this way. Wherever you are, I hope you're happy now, Brunito.
He shook his head, he couldn't get lost in these thoughts again. It was way too painful.
"Anyways. Maribel, the visions always come true."
Maribel pondered for a second when a thought seemed to hit her.
"Tío, what if..." She turned the plate around so it faced Bruno. "...what if this is not her future... But yours!"
Bruno furled his brows and his gaze slowly wandered from Maribel back to the plate. "But that..."
(Y/n) smiled at him from the plate. And suddenly it felt like she was ... looking directly at him.
"You gotta help me, tío!", Maribel ripped him out of his thoughts. "And then you come back to the family. And to tía (y/n). You just said it yourself... your visions always come true!"
Bruno stared again at the plate he had spent so many hours looking at.
He had always thought that her smile and her happiness were reserved for someone else.
But the thought of him being the man standing at her side almost made him tear up again. He thought he had missed his chance. Yet, what Maribel was saying...
He looked up into the hopeful face of his niece. Back at the plate. He was scared to hope. So many times had he thought about going back, had thought about a solution for it all. And it had broken his heart over and over again and one too many times.
But how could he break the hopes of Maribel. The one child he had done all of this for.
He sighed and nodded slightly.
"Fine. I'll help you, mija."
And as he looked up at Maribel's smiling face, a sad smile appeared on his own.
Maybe all hope wasn't lost.
Maybe he could be with his family again.
And maybe, just maybe (y/n), the real (y/n), would give him a smile just like that again.

Each Madrigal grandkid and their favorite adult
Isabela and Alma
Tumblr media
Now this may seem controversial considering it was Alma putting the pressure on her to be perfect, but she as also the favorite golden child who could do no wrong. Imo Pepa loved her but it irked her that her daughter was conserved lesser than so she was never super close with her Tia or Tio, her parents were too worried about Maribel and Louisa to really pay her a lot of attention, so she was left to be doted on by Alma. Even after her transformation I see Alma still being closest to Isabel
Louisa and Félix
Tumblr media
Every other adult in the family expects Louisa to be strong always and never falter. Félix is the Tio you go to have fun with and just relax, and when he saw her carrying something of a reasonable weight he’d always offer to carry it for her or at least help, even though she always turned him down bc she’s supposed to be ‘the strong one’ and the strong one doesn’t ask for help and doesn’t let people help her
Maribel and Augustin
Tumblr media
She remembers when she was little and all the adults were so worried and concerned over the fact she didn’t get a gift, her dad was the ONLY person to go ‘okay she isn’t magic… and?’ Like he really could care less about the fact she doesn’t have a gift and she heard him complaining about Alma to Julieta several times. And when Maribel really needed to rant about her abuella, she would go to him bc she knew he agreed with how stern she was
Dolores and Pepa
Tumblr media
Not only did Pepa’s try her best to make Dolores feel as special as Alma treated Isabela, but when she first got her gift, Dolores had a LOT of bad nights where she could hear everything and couldn’t sleep and was exhausted and she was overwhelmed to the point of tears and then just total shut down, and her mom was the only person who knew how to comfort her and also knew what it was like to hate the actual gift, not just the chores that come along with it. She made everything as quiet as she could, she would always hold her and rock her asleep, she taught her to concentrate on something to filter out everything else (her mamás heartbeat & her papás breathing was the two biggest) and for the longest time Dolores slept with Pepa and Félix because it made concentrating on those and the ability to block things out easier
Camilo and Julieta
Tumblr media
I think it’s clear that Félix and Camilo don’t get along that well. He’s a typical 15 year old and his dad gets annoyed at him super easy, and Camilo hates putting Pepa between them, especially with her anxiety. So he goes to his Tia to talk things out, and she’s calm and understanding and she lets him get teary eyed in front of her when he gets upset after a fight he and Félix had and she just hugs him and tells him that everything is gonna be okay.
Antonio and Pepa
Tumblr media
While his favorite person in the world is Maribel, out of the adults it’s his mom who he’s closest too. He wasn’t just a surprise baby, he was her own little miracle considering she thought she couldn’t have any more children after Camilo considering it’s really hard for her to get pregnant (she’s a triplet, they have some medical issues, it’s valid). And so she not only got pregnant with Antonio but she managed to get pregnant at *forty five*. And he’s the baby out of not just her lot but all the grandkids so he gets a little spoiled and loved on by his mom

I don't know if anybody else noticed this but... The main color for Disney villains is the color lime green right?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
hell even Oogie Boogie is lime green
But watching Encanto I noticed something
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Both Mirabel and Bruno have the Lime Green color
Even when Camillo changes into bruno he is surrounded by, you guessed it...
Tumblr media
LIME GREEN
So I wondered if this happen to kinda play on the EVIL=Every Villain Is Green stereotype and put it on the two Madrigals that have been deemed the Bad Guys of the family
Not my images btw

Stephanie Beatriz is the voice of Mirabel and she is also the actress of Rosa Diaz in B99.
Now imagine if Mirabel would have become a copy of Rosa Diaz and enlisted in the police after running away from Encanto (With Bruno) when she had had enough of the treatment she had suffered for years from the members of his family and especially Abuela.
While running away, she had always wanted to feel useful so she joined the police when she was old enough to do so and having collided with the harshness of the outside world of Encanto, she learned to toughen up to survive outside the lost paradise that came to life through Abuelo's sacrifice. And Bruno would also be very proud of his niece but also sad that she had to learn to become like this in the functions of her job.
It remains to be seen whether the rest of her family and especially Julieta and Augustin will react to the transformation of their daughter who was always so sweet and playful.
In any case, one thing is certain, Mirabel won't take crap from anyone, especially not from Isabella or Abuela, if she finally returns to Encanto after a few years (She wouldn't have the patience to settle family problems either, but she will do her best if it concerns at least Antonio or even Luisa).

Lyrical Enlightenment: What Else Can I Do? (Encanto)
Just for good measure: SPOILERS GALORE AHEAD!!!
This is the third and last of my top 3 favorite songs from the soundtrack. I will dissect the remaining two songs, of course, to close the series.
So between the last song and this one, a LOT has happened. Mirabel has 'ruined' Isabela's engagement dinner, Abuela knows that she has somehow found Bruno's vision, Mirabel has found Bruno hiding behind the walls because he really never left, Antonio is brought up to speed by the rats that live with Bruno, Mirabel has asked Bruno to have another vision to determine if she'll save the miracle or be the demise of the family, and Bruno has seen in his vision that the candle lights up brighter when Mirabel hugs.... her 'beloved' sister Isabela.
Mirabel throws a fit, and Bruno gives her very good advice. It's not dependent on Isabela. The vision's focus is Mirabel, so Mirabel has to be the one to patch things up if she wants the candle to shine brighter.
Mirabel enters Isabela's room, and they get into a fight. As Isabela is going after Mirabel, she grows a cactus accidentally - simply by her sharp emotions at that moment.
This is where the song begins. One of my favorite things about this particular song is that you see the change that both of them experience. In the confines of storytelling, this is character development at its best. They have been at each other's throats for years, solely based on perception and neither conceding. Isabela comes clean about how miserable she is being perfect, and Mirabel goes from only wanting to hug Isabela to help the miracle (in short, to help herself) , to really understanding her sister, seeing her, and supporting her full force - in the end realizing that helping Isabela come to terms with her true self and not focusing on her own purposes, the candle shines bright and the miracle is improved.
As Isabela yells at Mirabel, a cactus pops up between them, and the journey of discovery begins...
Isabela
I just made something unexpected Something sharp, something new It's not symmetrical or perfect But it's beautiful and it's mine What else can I do?
Mirabel (still looking for the hug)
Bring it in, bring it in Good talk, bring it in, bring it in (what else can I do?) Let's walk, bring it in, bring it in Free hugs, bring it in, bring it in
In what follows, Isabela describes her perfection torture. Mirabel's parts (who is still focused on the hug) are in parentheses.
I grow rows and rows of roses Flor de mayo, by the mile I make perfect, practiced poses So much hides behind my smile
What could I do if I just grew what I was feelin' in the moment? (Do you know where you're going? Whoa) What could I do if I just knew it didn't need to be perfect? It just needed to be? And they'd let me be?
Isabela now starts figuring out everything she can grow, regardless of how imperfect, weird or dangerous it can be - hence the jacaranda (a tree with beautiful flowers, but crooked and not easy to control) , strangling figs (parasitic plant), hanging vines (rarely thought of as pretty), palma de cera (a spikey and tall palm tree), sundew (carnivorous plant), and tabebuia (of which some parts can be poisonous).
A hurricane of jacarandas Strangling figs (big), hanging vines (this is fine) Palma de cera fills the air as I climb And I push through What else can I do?
Can I deliver us a river of sundew? Careful, it's carnivorous, a little just won't do I wanna feel the shiver of something new I'm so sick of pretty, I want something true, don't you?
And then the turn comes - Mirabel finally starts listening, and opens her eyes to what's always been in front of her but has never seen about Isabela - and her attitude changes from wanting to get a hug for selfish purposes to cheerleading her sister in her path of discovery. When Isabela (whose parts are in parenthesis in the following segment) asks "How far do these roots go down?" she's not only talking about the Palm's roots - she's talking about her learned behavior, and the guilt that comes from straying from the path Abuela has marked for her. Guilt, betrayal, shame - all of these emotions are learned based on what our families (in this case Abuela) teach us as we grow up.
You just seem like your life's been a dream (whoa) Since the moment you opened your eyes (How far do these roots go down?) All I know are the blossoms you grow (whoa) But it's awesome to see how you rise How far can I rise? Through the roof, to the skies Let's go
Now both really see each other: Isabela discovering the possibilities of her power outside of what's expected or mandated, and Mirabel at her side supporting and encouraging her to go further.
A hurricane of jacarandas (woo) Strangling figs (go), hanging vines (grow) Palma de cera fills the air as I climb And I push through What else, what else?
What can you do when you are deeply, madly, truly in the moment? (Seize the moment, keep goin') What can you do when you know who you wanna be is imperfect? But I'll still be okay (Hey, everybody clear the way, woo)
I'm comin' through with tabebuia (she's comin' through with that boo-yeah) Making waves (making waves), changing minds (you've changed mine)
Now Isabela admits what great help Mirabel has been, and the hug that they share is sincere and true. Isabela is grateful to Mirabel for helping her break out of the mold, and Mirabel is happy to see her sister for who she truly is, and fully supports her.
The way is clearer 'cause you're here, and well I owe this all to you What else can I do? (Show 'em what you can do) What else can I do? (There's nothing you can't do) What else can I do?
The next song on the list is somewhat like an origins story of sorts.

i’m rlly glad with the way luisa was portrayed in encanto. bcus she is strong, she is built muscly and broad and tall. BUT she also wears dresses and doesn’t have a ‘boyish’ hairstyle. she isn’t masculine. she’s feminine.
yk a lot of women in fiction who are portrayed as strong are always immediately made to be masculine as well. and obviously this solidifies the “men are strong” stereotype. women in fiction who are muscly, or who are fighters or who are strong are almost ALWAYS portrayed as masculine but luisa isn’t.
women can be strong and feminine. women can be muscly and wear dresses. and that strength that’s “all so masculine and man like (/sarc)” doesn’t take anything away from their womanhood/femininity.
