Harbor seals hauling out at Hopkins Beach, CA

Hauling out is an important for seals because it is when they can rest, give birth, and molt. This time out of the water allows them to use the sun to keep warm instead of relying on their fat and metabolism. This becomes really important in colder waters like Alaska. If harbor seals can’t haul out, they must supplement their heat loss by eating more. If you see a harbor seal on the beach like this, let them rest for a bit. They’re easily startled, and we don’t want them to have to look for extra food because they didn’t feel like the beach was a safe place to rest at that time.

Sim Y/N: Australian, have lived there her whole life, sometimes visit Korea to see her brother and mother. Were mainly raised in the high societies of Sydney. Straight A-student, and a STEM major with a secret passion for fashion design. 

Sim Jake: Australian, but moved to Seoul 10 years ago with his mother after his parents split. Raised under far humbler conditions than his sister. Almost a straight A-student, adores baseball and a business major with an amazing singing voice. Besties with Heeseung, Sunghoon and Jay

Yang Jungwoon: straight A-student and medicine major, wanna be a doctor like his parents one day. Has a love for iced americanos and work at a cafe, but only to get free coffee. Best friends with Y/N.

Park Sunghoon: Not a straight A-student, womanizer and a law major. Is filthy rich with no interest in his family business, he just wanna have fun. Heeseung’s his older half brother. Calls Jay his platonic love of his life, and very protective over him. 

Kim Sunoo: Almost a straight A-student and marinebio major. Is on a scholarship, working at the cafe with Jungwon, not a trust fund kid like the others. Has a love for champagne and food with his besties. 

Lee Heesung: Sunghoons halfbrother, took his mothers last name after she passed away. Is in training under their father to take over the family business, and has promised to always take care of his baby bro. Besties with Jake. 

Nishimura Niki: In the same group as Y/N, Sunoo and Jungwoon. Unlike the rest, does not go to uni, is an idol instead. Spoils his besties with everything from concert tickets to iced coffee and loves to take them out. For the sake of the story he’s around the same age as his friend group.

i can see floyd getting SUCH a kick out of the shark chase scene and jade finding the anglerfish scene funny. azul is sitting next to them like "yk that's nothing unusual" because they're WEIRD

ofc he would probably have some flashbacks during that scene in the gif. jade and floyd IMMEDIATELY turn to look at him. its creepy. their heads turn a full 90 degrees. LIKE WHAT ARE YOU LOOK AT...LEAVE HIM ALONE OMG.

yk that fish that killed all of nemo's siblings? that's a barracuda! they actually don't eat clownfish eggs, but they do eat moray eels so i don't like them >:C

also, that scene when coral goes to confront the barracuda and marlin tells her to stop? female clownfish are more aggressive than male clownfish!!

yk that scene when bruce cries about never meeting his father? that's also true, because sharks,,,, mate,,,,,, a lot. 👁️ so he probably would never have met his dad or figured out who his father was. also, his eyes turning black when he was about to try and eat marlin and dory was kinda right? because sharks roll their eyes back into their heads to protect them when they're about to snatch up a tasty little morsel yum yum.

ALSO TEH WHALE???? WHEN THEY WERE SHOT OUT OF ITS BLOWHOLE???? whale's can't do that its literally impossible. they would have gotten swallowed right into the stomach and out the other end yikes

Daily Dolphin One

I present to you, the Chilean (or black or white bellied) dolphin. (Cephalorhynchus eutropia)

They are in genus Cephalorhynchus.

The Chilean dolphin is a small, near threatened species with around 5000 in the wild

They get about 2 meters long (1.7) or 5-6 feet and about 60kg (63)

They have a little beak :3

They are known to eat crustaceans, little fish, cephalopods, and squids.

They live in smaller pods of about 2-15 but can get into pods of 50

They can be seen hanging out with sea birds or other species of dolphin

They live on the coast of Chile, obviously, like in the Tierra de Fuego

They are very little studied… being the least studied species of cetacean.

They are pregnant for 10-12 months

They breed about every 2-3 years

They mature at ages 5-10 and can live until 20

All fish and seafood species, expected to collapse by 2048. And we, as humans, have failed to stop fishing, or even to just fish /less/ than we have been. Fish, sushi restaurants, aren’t just available by the sea, they’re found hours and hours from any coastline. Fish are in every pet store, grocery store.

We’re already seeing it.

A BILLION crabs. Missing. A number beyond what we can truly comprehend.

And what happens if our oceans die?

We die. In 2023, that’s only 25 years away, with no clear steps taken as a world, not just individual nations, but as a WORLD to stop this. We haven’t even been able to stop whaling, or the shark fin industry. We have FAILED as shepherds of the earth. We need reform now.

Or we are at the end of days.
