#marinette deserves a better fandom

The way people talk about season finale like "Marinette f*cked up so badly" as if she gave miraculous to a terrorist. Her plan was literally flawless and clever and her attentions pure, Félix f*cked up, not her. How long are you going to hold her accountable for his actions and defend him for the same thing?

I think it says a lot about the ml fandom that Marinette gets more hate for letting Chat down gently than Chloe gets for making a spectacle of rejecting Kim the way she did.
Chloe had full right to say no to Kim sure, but if you really cared about boys feelings how about some sympathy for this?
Just admit you hate Marinette and move on.

I wouldn't be surprised even with Marinette's backstory, people will still go out of their way to demonize her.
Yet they still will bring up Chloe's backstory to justify her actions, even the most horrible ones.

A social experiment on Reddit. The result I got is frustrating, but not surprising. Call Marinette a stalker and you'll be praised. Call her a great character, and you'll be downvoted.

Gonna be real with you.  The next time any of you salters open your mouths about ‘x is a horrible friend and person’, here’s a challenge for you. Imagine Marinette or Adrien, the real ones and not the ones you’ve built up in your mind, standing over your shoulder. Think about what they’d think of you the moment you open your mouths. Think about what they might think of you when you disrespect one of their friends.

Just had someone tell me that Marinette telling Chloe and Audrey that they should bond over being toxic and entitled was okay because she was being sarcastic, and I just gotta say..... no? that doesn't make it better??
Thankfully this person was pretty civil, and open to having an actual conversation about that scene, and by the end of it we came to agree on some things.
But I still wanna blog about it, because I have a lot of feelings.
Even if Marinette was saying it to be ironic, which still isn't an interpretation that I'm fully on board with, but for the sake of argument, even if she was, that's still a horrible thing to say given the circumstances!
Marinette doesn't have to like Chloe, but if her first reaction to seeing a girl her age on the verge of tears while she asks her mother "Why don't you love me?" is to have a laugh and say "Well, you both suck, so you should be glad to be stuck together!" then that is terrible, and petty, and vicious!
If for some reason you wanna have Marinette banter with Chloe about it, at least wait until she isn't in the most vulnerable position possible, baring her deepest trauma while confronting her abuser.
Either way you slice it, Marinette had no right to say what she did! She was either giving harmful advice that she wasn't qualified to give, or she was being downright cruel.

MLB Alya Cesaire Salt Prompts/Fics Recommendations
A Bakers Daughter by @ladyanput
This doesn't actually have a title
“You’re not walking away from this, Marinette! If you need harrassing Lila like this, you’ll get arrested! Get it in your head! Adrien doesn’t want you! He would never want a baker’s daughter, someone so useless and uninspiring! You’ll never reach great heights, Lila does! Lila has more talent grace in one pinky, than you have in your entire being! You’ll always be a nobody and you need to learn to deal with that.”
All This After a Monkey Tries to Steal Marinette’s Purse by @cornholio4
“Dad, I can explain…” Alya replied while trying to think of an explanation that sounded somewhat believable.
“I sent Marinette to our house to wait for either of us, I want you home within half an hour to take over for the babysitting duties that you were supposed to be doing anyway! I will try and be home shortly to have a talk with you!” Otis told him sternly and Alya looked down sadly having to tell Nino and Adrien that she has to get home with them looking concerned.
FACT CHECK by @spooky-z
“Marinette, aren’t you ashamed of yourself? Act like nothing is wrong. I didn’t know you could be that cold and calculating.” She caught everyone’s attention again, especially Marinette.
Marinette sighed, her elbow resting on the table, she laid her head on her palm. There was an air of boredom around her. Chloe, Sabrina and Nathaniel with unimpressed looks on their faces.
New York Special Salt: Confrontation by @nobodyfamousposts
Adrien was shaking at this point, but forcing himself to remain steady.
“You both knew Marinette liked me. Fine. Sure. Apparently she was having trouble telling me this. That’s okay. You knew she felt this way and was having trouble telling me. I get that.”
He glared.
“What I don’t get is why it was necessary to go THIS far instead of just TELLING me what was going on yourselves?!”
Exposed by @miraculousbelladonna
She is still absolutely going to have words with her bestie later, but she doesn’t think twice about posting the life changing video onto her blog.
All she’s thinking about is how it’s so cool that she’s the one who found Ladybugs identity. It’s so cool that she’s the one who’s revealing it. It’s so cool that her best friend, Marinette, is Ladybug. Her views are going to go through the roof. Television channels are going to be talking about this, they’re going to be calling her and asking to use her footage.

Why the "True Selves" Theory is Insulting
Image for a second that you have a friend who's a bit of a ditz. She's also fun, creative, and sweet. You enjoy being around her, but you've never seen her as more than a friend. Then, one day, a fire breaks out at an event that you and your friend are attending. Your lives are suddenly in mortal peril and the same goes for everyone around you because you can't find the exit. You think that you're going to die.
Then, suddenly, your friend transforms. Not in a magical way, it's just a personality shift, but it might as well be magical because it's like nothing you've ever seen! The ditziness is gone, replaced by laser focus and a take-charge attitude that has everyone following your friend without question. When all is said and done, everyone lives because of you friend. As it turns out, her tendency to get easily distracted means that she's a fantastic in-the-moment problem solver.
Going through that completely changes how you see this girl. You no longer just like her, no, you're now deeply in love with her. You tell a mutual friend about this and they laugh at you, then say, "Don't be silly, that wasn't really her! Her true self isn't that brave girl who saved your life! That was special circumstances that don't count. All that counts is the way she acts when there isn't a crisis going on. It doesn't matter that you've always liked her and enjoyed her company, if you didn't fall in love with based solely on her ditzy self, then you don't really love her."
Most people would call this mutual friend insane because of course going through crazy experiences changes the way we view people! Imagine if you had an allergic reaction and your significant other's reaction was to panic and run away, leaving you to die. You only live because you manage to grab your phone and call '911.' That would understandably lead many people to reassess if this is the person they want to spend their life with just like the opposite experience might make you see a person as a good life partner.
Marinette is Ladybug. She gets full credit for everything she's done in the suit and it's perfectly fine for Adrien to become attracted to her after he sees her in action. It doesn't mean that he only values her Ladybug side. He quite clearly cares for Marinette, he just hasn't seen her in the right light for him to fall in love. (And, if we're being frank, Marinette acts like Ladybug all the time when he's not around or when he is around, but a crisis is going on. She's really not that different from her alter ego.)
Along similar lines, Marinette isn't wrong for being drawn to Adrien's sweeter side more than his over-the-top jokey side. There's a reason why Glaciator ended with her blushing. Compare the end of Glaciator to the end of Origins and, yeah, same energy because - in that moment - Chat Noir was letting his Adrien side out by being more sincere and vulnerable, which are the things that Marinette values most in a romance and the things that he rarely shows while in the mask. It doesn't mean that she hates his jokey side, it's just not going to win her heart when Adrien's right there being sweet and sincere while Chat Noir hides his feelings behind a smile and a laugh.
In fact, it's pretty insulting to Adrien to say that someone shouldn't be attracted to his more vulnerable side. That his sincerity is worth less than his jokes. Almost as insulting as telling Marinette that her Ladybug side doesn't count and she should get no credit for being brave as that's not really her. Loving her only counts if a person falls in love while she's behaving in her most over-the-top, cringe, embarrassing way.
I don't know about you, but I would never want someone to hold me to that standard nor would I hold my significant other to that standard! It's perfectly normal to have things that you don't love about your significant other. In fact, I'd argue that part of the magic of a real, lasting romance is having someone who loves you even though you're not perfect. If you are looking for a partner who never annoys you or does something wrong, then you will never find happiness because that person does not exist.
Now that I've said all of that, I want to add that I do think that marichat, "love both sides" stories can be cute. It's just not One True Path to Real Love. It's totally fine if the square starts dating based on the things that they find attractive about each other and then just continue to be in love as they learn about the other side. If anything, that's normal. Learning about a person is what dating is all about! A good relationship is no different than a good friendship, you just get some bonus perks if you're into that kind of thing.
I'll also note that I'm not criticizing stories where Marinette feels like she's the "real" version and Ladybug is the fake because that's a really understandable thing to be nervous about. Tikki saying that shit? Hard no. Terrible mentoring.

Is it just me or does Marinette have it worse compared to Adrien narratively and in the fandom?
Let’s go over the facts:
Marinette has two bullies while said bullies are rubbing themselves all over Adrien
Marinette is the one constantly embarrassing herself and tripping over a guy who barely acknowledges her
Adrien gets to put other peoples feelings (her bullies) above her’s, but if Adrien isn’t her priority 24/7 she gets bashed to hell and back by the fandom
Adrien is the one who gets to be akumatized and destroy the world, but if Marinette even shows the slightest bit of negativity she gets bashed for being ‘too emotional’ and ‘Irresponsible’
Adrien gets to ‘move on’ with Kagami and actively chase another girl with a mask and got almost no flack from the fandom, but Marinette actively trying to move past Adrien with Luka even though her secret identity keeps getting in the way gets her scorn from the fandom, her friends, and the universe bending over backwards to punish her for trying to leave Adrien behind her
Adrien’s jealousy can get excused but Marinette’s earned her a rival who trying to get her hero persona murdered
It’s alway Ladybug who has to deal with people hating her and trying to destroy her via working with a terrorist and having to endure them in her civilian life (Chloe and Lila) but Chat Noir is never on the receiving end of this
Marinette is portrayed as a jealous person who can’t change how she views people (despite her becoming best friends with Kagami, supporting her relationship with Adrien, and tried to get them together twice Frozer and Pigeon 72), but Adrien’s jealous destructive jealously is either brushed off or justified by the narrative and the audience
Adrien gets to be a bad partner to Kagami for no good reason, but Marinette’s struggle to balance out her secret identity as well as her relationship but gets treated as an even worse partner
Adrien gets to be a bad partner and throw childish tantrums but Marinette is somehow the terrible, irresponsible, toxic, abusive one
Marinette is always held up to unfair standards and expectations while Adrien has close to none both narratively and in the fandom
Marinette is the one bashed for not helping Adrien escape his abusive father (despite being 14) but Adrien is never bashed for not standing up to his father (his age is always used to excuse his passive behavior)
These are just the few I can think of off the time up my head but it’s pretty clear whose side the show is on. This is clearly a show that young girls should look up to.😘
Feel free to reblog and add more if I’m missing anything.

Anyone who says Marinette is bad for Adrien clearly isn't paying attention.
Remember how Chloe constantly treated him like an exotic pet? And cut off their friendship just because he asked her to be a little nicer?
Remember how Felix constantly mocks and belittles him for being abused by Gabriel? Or tried to ruin his relationship with his friends for no reason other than he could?
Marinette is the best thing that's ever happened to him, she's the first person in his life who truly understands what he needs to be happy and is willing to put her own happiness to the side for him.
That's true love.

And also,
"How come people use the 'they're 14 years old' card when it comes to other characters but not on Chloe, Lila, and Felix?!"
Because everytime characters like Marinette, Adrien, and Alya make simple mistakes, you guys come out of the woodwork to constantly demonize and bash them. Meanwhile, the former three are often given a pass because they have "uwu tragic backstories!!!"
Heck, even Adrien has a tragic backstory and never ended up as a villain, yet you guys still wanna make him the bad guy and while praising people who did actually horrible stuff like Felix because of the aforementioned reasons.

The theory that Chat Noir hadn't and shouldn't have forgiven Ladybug is driving me mad. Also now this theory inspires salty ficwriters.

It was time to throw canon out of the window and make Miraculous a better show or in your case world!
