One of the things she’s heard about Bruce is that he is extremely stubborn when sick or injured, always escaping from the manor to fulfill his obsession of fighting crime. Does she agree that her father should quit with the lack of self-preservation attitude and accept bedrest? Yes. But will she stop being a hypocrite and cease her similar stubbornness? Hell no.
A sick red-nosed, migraine-victim Marinette sneaks out the door carefully. Alfred has advised her to rest the previous day but she is done lying around doing nothing and being coddled by her brothers especially when they hid away her sewing materials and the kwamis refuse to let her transform, stealing away their Miraculi.
She knows she has an advantage this time. The two people who have a chance to stop her, Cass and Alfred, are currently away from the manor. After making a somewhat cohesive plan with her addled brain, she wraps a duvet around herself and covers her head, mimicking a cloak, and moves out.
She meets Tim in the hallway, who’s carrying a tray with a bowl of soup.
“Oh no you don’t,” he says. But before he can intercept her, she launches herself, does a flip over his head and continues to run.
“How the hell can you do that when you’re sick?!” She faintly hears Tim cry out behind her. It will only be a matter of seconds before he contacts the others, so she has to move faster.
Dick and Jason appear at the top of the staircase, coming out from either side.
“Stay in bed, Pix, you have to recover,” Jason tuts.
“You should go back to bed!” Dick springs on his feet.
“You should go back to therapy!” Marinette sticks her tongue out, prompting a dramatic gasp from her brother.
The two start coming towards her but Marinette—despite her aching throat—makes an unintelligible screech, with the duvet still covering her, and jumps on the banister to slide out of reach. She scurries to the foyer where the last challenger, Damian, awaits.
“Not this time, Marinette.” Damian waves his katana in front of her.
Marinette wordlessly puts on her best pouting face.
Damian falters, lowering his weapon, which gives her the opening to make a beeline towards the front door. Unfortunately, she sees another obstacle outside the manor.
The fuck? Why is Duke here? Isn’t he supposed to be on patrol? She grits her teeth, glaring at her brother through the window.
“Grab her!” Dick yells nearby.
Marinette wastes no time and reroutes towards the grandfather clock. She opens the entrance, punches in a code to lock it, and heads down the Batcave.
She stumbles a little when she searches the cave for a way to escape. Her fever is going up, she’s sure, but there is no way she’s letting that stop her. Finally she sees her golden ticket: the Batmobile, and grabs the keys that Bruce has hidden as a spare. The engine purrs beautifully, a contrast to the maniacal cackle from her lips. Before the vehicle gets out of the manor’s grounds, she slaps on a domino mask from the seat pocket as a disguise.
Marinette floors the gas pedal. Now where to go?

The Lazarus Problem Chapter 4
Jasonette Ch1 Ch2 Ch3 Ch4(you are here)
Ao3 Dedicated to @girl-in-thechair
Marinette was expecting Jason to come in, but she wasn’t expecting a familiar source of the Lazarus pits to also come in. She was caught off guard, as she blankly stared back at Jason who seemed to be trying to find the words to speak. Her trance was broken by Jason’s voice cracking.
“Marinette?” He still looked as though she wasn’t really there.
“Jason!” She rushed toward him, and he swept her into a hug and spun her around.
“You’re MDC?” His hands rested on her shoulders as he looked her up and down, like he still didn’t fully believe she was there.
“And you’re a Wayne! I didn’t know whether you were alive or not till I moved back to Gotham. Not only were you alive, but you got adopted?” She said while swatting his arm.
“Yeah, it happened about a month after we were separated, I was caught trying to steal Batman’s tires. He then took me to Bruce, and you know the rest.”
Marinette ignored the lie, it had been years since they’ve seen each other and she of all people knew the importance of keeping a secret identity.
“Really, Jason? Batman’s tires? Please tell me it wasn’t the Batmobile.” She already knew the answer though. Trying to steal tires from the Batmobile was a very Jason thing to do.
“Okay, it wasn’t the Batmobile.” Jason said with a grin.
“Oh that was so believable,” Marinette teased while rolling her eyes. “Okay let’s start the fitting.”
~~
After Jason had left the room where Marinette was working, he walked aimlessly around the Manor when he was accosted by Tim.
“Were you aware your friend is MDC?!” Tim grabbed Jason by the shoulders and shook him with urgency.
“Tim, don’t you think I would have brought that up if I had?” Jason swatted Tim’s hands away. “I was very much caught by surprise.”
It was well known that Tim was a huge fan of MDC. Getting to commission her was a big deal to Tim. After he had gotten confirmation on it he had sobbed face down for a good few hours in disbelief. If Jason had known, he might have kept it from Tim for shits and giggles, but would have most likely told him.
“Well, she lived in Paris for the entirety of the Hawkmoth situation. Should we see if she would be willing to help us with that?” Jason could see Tim’s mind racing. Marinette was a possible resource, because even though the Paris situation was known now, there was still a frustrating amount of mystery.
“We couldn’t ask, the Waynes have no reason to dig into Paris, while the Bats have no connection to her.” Jason paused. “Although maybe we could have one of the Bats come to her and ask, saying we let them know she might be able to help.”
“Well whatever we decide, you need to rekindle the friendship so I can befriend her. I can’t believe you know MDC.” Tim finally let go of him and started for the kitchen. Jason was pretty sure Alfred had already switched everything with decaf though. “I’m going to have to invite her to the Gala, even if she wants to attend anonymously.”
~~
Batman stared back at a very unamused Wonder Woman. This was a necessary briefing but was already really uncomfortable.
“I understand you don’t like magic in Gotham, but the business of the Miraculous isn’t something you should get in the way of. She is there to help you, the effects of the Lazarus pits is a weakness that hinders Red Hood and Robin. To have it removed is an opportunity you can’t afford to pass up. As for seeing if she is telling the truth, I must meet her.” Wonder Woman wasn’t pleased he waited this long to tell her. She had been looking for the current Ladybug as soon as Paris had been revealed to the world.
“If she is actually there to do what she says then I’m okay with the magic, but for now she is still an unknown. To give her access to Red Hood and Robin without confirming her claims would be unwise. Robin is still partially convinced that she may be a spy from the League. Ra’s does have an unhealthy obsession with obtaining the Miraculous according to him.”
Wonder Woman shifted uncomfortably at that.
“Before my mother was Ladybug, Ra’s succeeded at just that. He used the Ladybug and Black Cat to create the pits. To make a wish is to rewrite the universe and it always has to balance out, like the negative effects. I don’t like to think what his next wish might be.”
Batman thought this over, if just one wish could create something as dangerous as the Lazarus pits, then Ra’s definitely needed to be kept from the Miraculous. Lyca was the close they had gotten to finding Ladybug. She seemed to be able to take care of herself, but Batman wanted to offer the protection of the Justice League. He’d sleep better at night if he knew that the League of Assassins would have to go through him before they could get to the Miraculous. Not to mention Ladybug and Chat Noir would be great additions to the Justice League.
“Well after you meet Lyca, let me know if she is who she says she is, and if she is willing to help us contact Ladybug. Meanwhile I’ll still search on my own to see if any leads appear.”
Batman held out the phone Lyca gave Jason. It had taken some convincing to get it from him, but it was the easiest way for Wonder Woman to reach the Fox heroine.
“Trust me, Bruce. She won’t be found unless she wants to.” She accepted the device.
~~
So Jason was Red Hood, and Damian Robin. The kid had barely kept from trying to skewer her as she got her measurements. Marinette couldn’t blame the kid though. He had a significantly greater trace amount of Lazarus pit on him. As the grandson of Ra’s al Ghul she wasn’t surprised. But her commission had revealed the identity of the Bats, something she hadn’t expected to uncover.
While she was planning how that information could aid her in her mission, her phone rang. Not her main phone, the one that was connected to her yo-yo. She answered expecting a Bat to be the one calling.
“Lyca? This is Diana of Themyscira. I would love to meet with you, I believe I might be of some help to you.” Marinette dropped the phone in shock.

A Discowing at the Wayne Gala
Summary: Getting Jason to go to the Wayne Gala each year was more difficult than putting the Joker away in Arkham; he insisted the part was full of pretentious, rich social climbers who were horribly boring. As it turned out, all he really needed to persuade him was an upset, drunk girl rambling about how much she was going to deck her highschool enemies there to convince himself that he’d be in for a great show. (AKA the extremely chaotic and nonsensical salt/crack fic)
____________________________________________________
“I, Mar--” she hiccupped, “Marinette Dupain-Cheng solemnly swear to rip Lila a new one with Discowing’s godawful costume.”
“You say it girl!” called some random person from across the bar.
“I will--” another hiccup “--use Batman’s Batmobile to run over Kim. And slam Red Hood’s ugly ass helmet onto Adrien’s stupid face.”
“Better yet,” Marinette pounded the table, “I will use their stupid utility belts to dismantle Gabriel’s empire. Somebody give me a yeah!”
“Yeah!”
All in all, the sight wasn’t that atypical for a bar in Gotham, if it weren’t for the fact that Marinette Dupain-Cheng was barely five feet, wore pigtails, and knocked five men on their asses when they tried to approach her.
“Take that, Hawkass,” she hissed. “Think you can pull a fast one on me when I’m drunk, do you? Well I’ve got news for you!”
Her words slurred together, and she leaned on the bar for support. “When I get my way, you’re going to be tied up into a pretzel and dumped into a volcano, then the tundra and then we’ll see how you like your stupid little jewlery touched.”
“Dupain-Cheng,” her blonde companion hissed. “Get yourself together. We don’t need another one of your breakdowns now. You know we’re going to be busy tomorrow night, and I don’t want to deal with you completely hung over all throughout the gala.”
“Aww,” Marinette squished her cheek onto Chloe’s “You know you love me.”
“Yes, yes, but I’m not going to tolerate this bullshit. If you want to make good on your plans, you need to be in tip top shape.”
“Ughhhh, why are they even invited to the stupid gala? It’s not even like they’re rich! Oh wait, I guess they are…” Marinette pressed her face to the bar, which was undoubtedly dirty. She reveled in it’s coolness, brushing her bangs out of her face. “And why do you have to be right? I guess I have to stop drinking if I want to make any of my plans work.”
“Your plans will work, hungover or not. It’s just a question of how much you’ll be able to enjoy them. I don’t want you complaining for months after the fact that you don’t remember half of what happened.”
“I guess you’re right. Revenge is a dish best served cold, and I'm feeling a little too warm to ice them out.” Staggering, Marinette got to her feet. “Call an Uber?”
“It’s already here.”
#
“What made you change your mind?” Tim frowned at Jason, doubtful that he wasn’t going to cop out at the last second. He was sure that he was only putting on his suit as some sort of deliberate ploy to get out of the Gala. Truthfully, it wasn’t required that all of them attend the Gala, but it was one of the few events that brought together most of the Wayne family.
Jason ran a hand through his hair and smirked. “Let’s just say I’m expecting quite the show.”
#
Jason kept a hawkish gaze on the entrance, waiting for the appearance of one short, pigtailed girl, and a taller blonde. They arrived almost forty five minutes into the Gala, which was good timing; not late enough to be considered rude, but most people have already arrived and have made their rounds.
Marinette looked different out of the dim lighting of the bar, and even though she definitely looks like she’s nursing a light hangover, she still managed to look stunning. With a matte-black floor length dress that attracted all light in the vicinity towards it, it’s hard not to look her way; Tim, for one, stared at the outfits that Marinette and her companion are wearing with stars in his eyes. Any moment now, he’s going to approach them. Or he would if he weren’t on Jason-sitting duty.
“I’ll play nice,” Jason promised.
“You? Nice?” Tim sounded incredulous, and it’s not like he can fault him. Whenever Jason did successfully get roped into coming to the Gala, it’s a sure thing that he gets at least one fist fight started, if not an everyone for themselves sort of situation.
“They’re the reason I decided to come. It’s not me you have to be worried about.”
Tim groaned. “Really? They’re trouble makers? But they’re wearing MDC!”
Jason chuckled, slipping a hand into his pants pocket. Tim was weirdly obsessed with the highly secretive French designer. Nobody ever saw them in person. “Wearing your fashion icon doesn’t mean they can’t kick ass.”
Tim rocked back on his heels, looking at the two girls calculatively. “That’s right. If anything, they’re more likely to kick ass, because that’s the kind of confidence that MDC inspires in their designs. Well, if you’re not going to fight them, I’m going to introduce myself.”
“And I can’t leave my little brother alone.” Jason said, watching the blonde girl point in the direction of, if he wasn’t mistaken, Gabriel Agreste’s son and his plus one.
Who knew that doing a preliminary reading of the guests would be so informative? He could only guess what kind of beef Marinette had with Agreste Jr.--Bruce had enough problems with Gabriel; even though Wayne Enterprises only dabbled in fashion, Gabriel was a ruthless man when it came to his competitors, and tried to edge them out of the market multiple times. Foolish on his part, not taking into consideration that both Bruce and Tim were very, very stubborn people who only get more difficult to face when dealing with a challenge.
Wayne Enterprise might primarily be considered with R&D and technology companies, but underestimating the amount of influence Tim could gather when someone pissed him off was just a bad idea.
“Hi, I’m Tim--”
“--and it’s lovely to meet you, but we’re on a mission right now,” finished the blonde girl, who Jason was now 98% sure is Chloe Bourgeois, daughter of Paris’ mayor and Style Queen Audrey Bourgeois. “Dupain-Cheng, it’s your time to shine.”
“God,” Marinette muttered underneath her breath, ducking her head. “I can’t believe you’re holding me to what I said while drunk last night.”
“It’s not just what you said drunk last night, it’s the most effective way of dealing with that liar. She’ll be so embarrassed she’ll hide away forever. Maybe get some plastic surgery and change her name. Daddy will make sure she can never step foot in Paris again.”
“Chloe,” Marinette groaned. “We all know how that panned out last time. Do you want a repeat performance?”
“By that time Hawkmoth will already be taken down. No need to worry about evil butterflies.”
“Evil butterflies?” Tim frowned.
“We can fill you in later, Marinette has a car to steal.”
“Chloe!”
“Oh stuff it, Dupain-Cheng, you’re no goody two shoes, even though you pretend to be one.”
Marinette whispers into Chloe’s ear, eyeing Jason and Tim. “Do you have to discuss that with other people around?”
“Well,” Chloe crossed her arms. “You boys aren’t going to rat us out, are you? They’re part of the infamous Wayne family. They’ll definitely be in.”
“You’ve got to be kidding me. You know they already reached out-- I can’t risk--” Marinette kept cutting herself off. “Fine, but if you-know-what falls through, I’m putting it all on you.”
“Like they’re going to pass you up just because of what’s going to go down at this gala. If anything, they’ll be glad to know that you’re as vicious as you are creative,” Chloe checked her nails and touched her hair, making sure it was in place.
“Sorry, what? I’m a little bit lost.”
“Keep up, Drake. I’m beginning to doubt your title as child-genius.You have the unique opportunity to watch history in the making.”
#
“Wait,” Tim’s jaw almost dropped at the display in front of him. “How did you even--”
“Trade secret. Marinette doesn’t kiss and tell.”
“But that’s the Batmobile.”
“Yeah, and?”
Jason laughed. He stole the hubcaps off the Batmobile, Marinette stole the whole thing. What a sight.
#
Here’s how the rest of the night went: Chloe plied Marinette with copious amounts of water, trying to get rid of her headache. Marinette hopped into the driver’s seat of the Batmobile (to which Chloe cackled, “And she doesn’t even have a driver’s license yet,” and Tim paled to the shade of freshly fired ceramic plate.) They ran over Kim, who, somehow managed to get into the event as a server of sorts, at which point Tim swore that the background checks would have to be upped again. Marinette landed the Batmobile in the middle of the gala, barely managing to avoid several innocents who were in her path. She reached into the convenient storage compartment that Jason was previously unaware of and pulled out the Discowing outfit and his helmet-- seriously, how did she get those?-- and slammed the car door.
Security, of course, was waiting for them. How couldn’t they, with that big of a disturbance? Half of the guests were up in a tizzy-- mostly the ones who were experiencing their first Wayne Gala-- and the other half were looking on, amused. Tim waved the guards off as Marinette made her way to Lila and Adrien, like a vengeful Valkyrie.
“You,” Marinette grimaced. “Chloe, say the words, I forgot them.”
“We decided that words were useless, remember?”
“Oh, that’s right,” Marinette said, before promptly slamming Red Hood’s helmet onto Adrien’s head hard enough for him to fall to the ground, likely concussed. Lila, who started screeching and running away made for a surprisingly difficult target. Well, difficult in the fact that she was using other people as shields, but once she came across a group of Experienced Wayne Gala Goers, she got pushed out of her comfort zone.
In eight inch heels and with her hair down, Marinette stalked towards her prey.
“Lila Rossi,” Marinette intoned. “Your sins will be judged.”
“What are you going to do, Marinette? You have no power here. We’re in America now. No Ladybug to back you up. No public opinion in your favor.”
Marinette shuddered. “Ugh, your voice makes me want to vomit. In any case, I sentence you to life in Discowing’s costume.”
“You can’t make me wear anything!”
Famous last words, Lila.
#
“I’m still so confused. What just happened?”
“Don’t worry,” Chloe gave Tim a pat on the back. “You’ll get used to this kind of thing if you end up hanging around Marinette more often.”
“I think I’m in love,” said Jason.
“Get in the back of the line. The only thing Marinette has time for now are her plans to take down Hawkmoth.”
“I’m not opposed to joining you. I’ve got a few tricks up my sleeve.” Jason paused. “By the way, has she already stolen the utility belts to take down Gabriel or does she need more? I’ve got contacts.”
 "Fair warning, everything in Paris is at least twenty times crazier than what you’ve seen here today.” Chloe swiped through a few notifications on her phone. “And please, do you think someone who hotwired the Batmobile needs your help getting her hands on a couple utility belts? If she really put her mind to it, she could get the Lasso of Truth from Wonder Woman.”
“Yeah, Jason, I’m definitely not going to join you on that trip.” Tim turned his attention towards Marinette, who was currently passed out on the hotel couch. “Anyways, You two are wearing MDC, right? I have a meeting with them tomorrow!”
Chloe looked at the poor boy with pity. “Good luck. You’re going to need it.”

Memories/Stories
Marinette remembered a lot.  She remembered her dad and his bright blue eyes, the same ones she shared with him.  She remembered spending time with her daddy and Grandpa Allie.  She remembered going to the circus with the Drakes because they had a son her age, and daddy didn’t want her to be outed to the public yet.  Tim was her only friend, well, honestly he was more like a little brother.  He was always getting into trouble, so she had to get him out of it.  But that was only if his parents were gone, when they were home he always acted so strange.  He was always rigid, he talked differently, and all his mannerisms felt wrong.
At the circus they got to meet a lot of the performers, and Marinette laughed at Tim when they met the Flying Graysons.  He could barely keep still, and when the youngest Grayson said that he would dedicate his performance to Tim she swore that he nearly blacked out before he squeaked out a small, “thank you.”  Both of them got a picture of them with the Graysons.  She still had it, she kept it in her journal.
She hadn’t realized it would be the last photo that the family of Graysons would take together.  She still had nightmares of what happened next, because while the Drake’s covered Tim’s eyes, she was forgotten about, and all she could really recall from the blurry memory was the red on the floor and the sickening cracking sound that was made.  Her dad wasn’t happy when he found out that she had seen that, and she wasn’t allowed to go over to Drake manor anymore, severely limiting the time she spent with Tim.
The day that her dad brought over Richard, or Dick, over.  She had a big brother now, and he was really cool!  He taught her how to do gymnastics and acrobatics.  Daddy was busier than usual these last few months, and she didn’t want to bother Alfred when he already had so much to do.  The months before Dick came were very boring and lonely, but now she had a big brother!  Nothing was boring anymore, though she hated how he wouldn’t tell her how he kept climbing onto the chandeliers!  She wanted to do that too!
Everything seemed to be going great, school was a breeze with her family helping and guiding her, she even managed to skip a grade!  Tim was in a couple of her classes too!  Then Dick and Daddy began to argue more and more.  It was always tense when eating dinner, she didn’t eat as much, just enough that it would be acceptable to leave and go to her room.  Then her birdy flew away and left to a new city, and she was alone again.  Daddy was always busy doing his detective work or WE work, Alfred did his work, and she stayed in her room and did her homework and drew.  She didn’t want to disturb anyone, she didn’t want there to be any more contention, and she was getting better with the silence again.
She remembered when Dad brought home another boy.  He looked all messy and too thin.  Alfred had been teaching her how to bake, maybe she could make something for him?  His name was Jason, but she preferred calling him Jay-Jay.  He called her Pixie.  She smiled at the name.  Dick had given her a nickname too, he called her Blueberry because her hair looked a very dark blue in the light.  It took a while for Jay-Jay to relax around, they said it was because he grew up on the streets.  She laughed when he told her he was caught stealing the tires off the Batmobile, and that he got three off before he was caught.
Everything was going fine until her birdy, Dick, came home.  She was so happy to see him again, and he seemed happy to see her too, but he didn’t look happy when he saw Jay-Jay and Bruce coming back from patrol.  They started yelling at each other again.  It was so loud, and it felt wrong, and she felt sick.  She ran as fast as she could trying to get away.  There was too much noise, everything was too much, and it was all so wrong.  She didn’t know where she was until she felt warm arms embrace her.  She opened her eyes—when did she close them again— and was met with deep blue eyes, Jay-Jay’s eyes.
“Hey, it’s ok Pixie.  You’re safe here.  They’ll get over it eventually.”
He wiped at her cheek, she hadn’t even realized she had been crying.  She looked around and saw she was in, what she liked to call, the “Secret Cove”.  A fairly wide space in the library trapped between two bookshelves with a small table and bing bags with lots of different types of blankets.  She often made forts here.  She snuggled closer to her older brother and cried.
“They k-keep fighting, and-and because of al-ll the tension Dick l-left and it w-was so quiet.  It was-wasnt right Jay-Jay.  Why do th-they keep yelling?”
“Hey, it’s alright Pix.  It will get better soon.  I’m here now, and you won’t have to worry about the quiet anymore, ok?”
She nodded her head against his chest and nearly melted against him when he ran his hands through hair.  She didn’t remember much else after that, but she remembered waking up surrounded by the rest of her family, and it was peaceful.  That was one of her favorite memories.
Then Jason left, and Dad left after him, and they both came back, but….Jason….he-he didn’t make it.  She remembered running out of the cave and vomiting as tears ran down her face.  Dick was in Blüdhaven, he didn’t know.  Everything was wrong, everything was so, so, so wrong!  It was quiet in the house, there was weight, one that had never been there before, not even when Dick had first left.  Not when he was gone with his teams.  Not when she was all alone in the house.  Not when there was a fight in the house.  Because this silence was permanent.  Because Jason would never come back to fill it.
She remembered when her Dad sent her away, right after Jason’s funeral.  She was forced to leave immediately after, and she dropped worse.  Her dad didn’t want her anymore.  She understood what Tim meant now.  She never said goodbye to him, maybe she could write a letter.  The ocean was dark above them, and there was a void in her chest similar to the one she was currently feeling.  Because she was abandoned, Dick didn’t want her with him, Dad wanted her gone, Jason left for other people because she wasn’t a good enough sister; then he died, and Tim probably forgot all about her by now.  So as all of the people she thought were her friends crowded someone else, ignored her, gossiped about her, hurt her, she didn’t show anything.  The void she felt before was back again.  She was still the same child she was before.  Nothing had changed from her past and now, just more loss.
She had good memories that she tried to hold onto.  Jason taking her on a ride in the Batmobile when dad wasn’t home.  Dick teaching her Romani.  Alfred teaching her how to cook.  Tim showing her his latest photos of Gotham during his nightly escapades.  Dad showing her the Batcave for the first time.  But those were all memories.  They were stories of a different girl.
She wasn’t Marinette Wayne anymore.  No, she was Marinette Dupain Cheng.  She wasn’t the daughter of a superhero or a billionaire.  She was the daughter of two simple bakers who lived normal lives.  She was her own hero here who set and made the rules.  Even if the void she felt almost everyday for the past 4 years continued to grow like it always did, she would be fine.  She had a job to do, and the mission always comes first.

Chapter 8: Christmas Madness
"I said I want to steal the Batmobile, I promise I'll return it afterwards." - Marinette smiled sweetly at her friends as she spoke, Raven and Beastboy did not know how to respond to that
"Why!?" - Raven
"Because I want to drive the Batmobile for Christmas." - Marinette
"Great, so you have like, a week to plan your heist." - Beastboy
"You want to drive THE Batmobile? What if something happens? Oh, let me guess, you also want to paint it pink while you're at it!" - Raven
"That's... actually a really good idea, OH, should i add rainbows to it? *gasp* I CAN USE PERMANENT GLOW IN THE DARK SPRAY PAINT!" - Marinette
"A pink Batmobile with rainbows... I know what I want to see for Christmas now. Also, add sparkles if you're going all in." - Beastboy
"GENIUS– *gasp* Raven!" - Marinette
"What?" - Raven hesitantly answered, waiting for what was most likely an even crazier idea
"You know that one bread cat meme that shits rainbows?" - Marinette with a devilish grin
". . . Don't tell me-" - Raven
"CAN YOU ADD A RAINBOW EFFECT BEHIND IT???" - Marinette was practically bouncing in her spot concerningly close to the edge of the building.
"I mean... I could, but how exactly do you plan on finding, let alone stealing the Batmobile for me to be able to add a rainbow shit trail?" - Raven
Marinette thought for a moment, looked at Mushu who was bundled up in her scarf, her grin only growing more mischievous - "Mushu~"
"What? Can't you see I'm trying to stay warm here?" - Mushu lifted the scarf over his head in an attempt to avoid the conversation
"You want to use Mushu?" - Beastboy
"I mean, he has magic, but." - Raven
"Mushu?" - Marinette picked Mushu up until they were face to face
"No. Now put me down." - Mushu
"*sigh* I guess I was wrong to assume you could make it the perfect heist, sorry, I forgot that you're power is dramatic as fuck sass." - Marinette put Mushu back down as she looked to her friends
"What about Tapp? He is the Kwami of magic, so he can probably just teleport you where you want to go." - Garfield pointed to Tapp who was napping in the hoodie of Raven's cloak
". . . Blueberry." - Mushu looked up at Marinette
"Yes oh Mighty Mushu?" - Marinette with an all knowing smug grin
"Just give me your strategy, the outfit you'll wear, and the equipment you'll use so I can perfect it. Leave finding the Batmobile to Tappy." - Mushu
"... Why not just cause a situation were they need the Batmobile? Then when they leave, you take it?" - Garfield was smacked on his shoulder by Raven
"NOT HELPING!" - Raven
"No, then I won't be able to spray paint it, though a distraction would be nice." - Marinette looked over to her two friends
"No./I'll help!" - Raven and Beastboy looked at each other, staring intensely to see who would give in to helping Marinette first
"Come on Raven! I just need you two to cause a distraction, preferably some type of magical illusion, that way no one gets hurt." - Marinette
"No. Absolutely, no way in hell-" - Raven

"How the fuck does she always convince me?" - Raven mumbled to herself while looking through her magical binoculars from the top of a tall buildings' roof garden, 1 block away from the Museum
"It's because yuh love me." - Wonder Quinn stood next to Raven, giving her a side hug
"No, it's because you bribed me with a new perfected magic cloak." - Raven returned the side hug as she continued to watch the Museum
"I prefer the word bargaining and 𝘵𝘦𝘤𝘩𝘯𝘪𝘤𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘺 it's a Christmas gift to you, I just so happened to offer it to you for a good distraction." - Wonder Quinn
"Highway robbery." - Raven
"No, all's fair in Gotham." - Wonder Quinn
"It's a miracle none of the Bats have found you yet." - Raven
"Lady Luck is on my side!" - Wonder Quinn gave Raven a thumbs up as she looked towards the Museum - "Anyway, GreenBean should soon be reporting that the Rice Batch is in the oven." - Wonder Quinn looked at her watch, 10 minutes left
"At least explain why our Codenames are food based." - Raven deadpanned
"I was hungry at the time." - Wonder Quinn just shrugged her shoulders as she went to stand closer to the edge of the building
"Why am I not surprised?" - Raven went next to Wonder Quinn and handed her the magical binoculars while keeping an eye out for the Bats
"It is what it is, PizzaRave." - Wonder Quinn said as she put the binoculars to her face
"Why did you have to name me that?" - Raven looked at Wonder Quinn, who had handed back the binoculars, and was now growing lots of flowers along the flowerbeds
"It was all I could think of in the moment." - Wonder Quinn could only shrugg as she replied before sensing a... weird soul heading towards them - "Someone's here."
"What?-" - Raven
"Shhhhhh... Be vewy vewy qwiet." - Wonder Quinn imitating Elmer Fudd from Looney Tunes
Raven rolled her eyes, but nodded as they went to hide behind the various plants Wonder Quinn grew in the flowerbeds close to the edge as they waited in silence. Raven didn't see anyone, but Wonder Quinn could still feel them.
"Hey Raven, who you got with you?" - Batgirl poking her head around the flowerbed they were hiding behind
Both girls shouted in surprise and Raven may or may not have accidentally knocked Wonder Quinn off the side of the building
"... Oh shit." - Raven/Batgirl were about ready to jump to save Wonder Quinn, but both saw all the plants grow rapidly to chase after her. They soon saw her being lifted back onto the roof by the plants.
"As much as I like feeling the wind in my face, please, don't do that again." - Wonder Quinn dusted the imaginary dust off her as she put the plants back and thanked them
"I'm so sorry, are you okay?" - Raven walked up to WQ and saw her start to laugh slightly
"Yeah... though I'm not sure I can say the same for Mushu... his scream was so fucking hilarious!" - WQ soon started cackling as Mushu popped out
"I DID NO SUCH THING!" - Mushu
"So. Mind telling me what's going on? I felt a disturbance in the force and came here, saw you two talking and decided to come by and say hi, and now I'm seeing a Chinese Dragon?" - Batgirl tilted her head as she admired Mushu
"Um... we- her? Just talking?" - Raven was visibly sweating magic bullets... as in they were glowing slightly
"Uh-Huh, 𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 believable, but really, what were you two talking about? And what's with the little dra-" - Batgirl

Everyone stared at each other in silence. Batgirl instantly knew it was Beastboy on the other end of the walkie-talkie
"Mind telling me what this ‘BlackTwizller Heist’ is all about?" - Batgirl

"HAHAHAHAAA! OH MY GAWD! BATS WOULD FLIP!" - Batgirl was bent over cackling at the thought of Batman's reaction
"Yeah probably..." - Wonder Quinn looked to Raven with a slightly nervous expression as she knew the plan was ruined
"HAHAAAA... okay... hehehe... wait. Okay, I can't... hheheee, let you hahaaaa!" - Batgirl had uncontrollable laughter as she tried to be serious
"Are you okay?" - Raven/Wonder Quinn
"Hehehehe... yeah, oh man... You know what?" - Batgirl seemed to have an almost mischievously evil smile spread across her face as she looked at the two girls
"What?" - Raven and Wonder Quinn looked at Batgirl with mild confusion
"I think Bats deserves a little Christmas gift, just promise you won't do anything stupid-... well, the plan is already kinda stupid, but you know what I mean." - Batgirl seemed to have an uncontrollable smile as she took out her communication device (it's a phone, but Bats calls it that) and started typing
"What are you doing?" - Raven looked at Batgirl with suspicion
"Just texting the Bats a bet, may as well make a little profit while you're at it." - Batgirls' phone soon started buzzing with replys, she showed it to the girls with an evil grin

"Y'all are gonna be rich." - Batgirl mimicking an evil villain laugh
"... Y.E.S." - Wonder Quinn doing the same thing, but actually cackling a little bit like Harley Quinn to Batgirl's surprise
"I feel like I should be even more concerned, but in all honesty, I threw my concern out the window when you bribed me here." - Raven looked to the two with a deadpan stare
"Bargained." - WQ corrected her friend
"Bribery is still highway robbery." - Raven
"So, assuming Miss Batgirl is on our side, all we need now is for Raven to- *ᗷOOᗰ*" - WQ soon saw smoke coming from the Museum, staring for a moment before looking to Batgirl and Raven...
"Wasn't me Chief." - Raven lifted her hands up in a 'Wasn't me' gesture
". . .shit" - WQ, Batgirl and Raven began running along the rooftops towards the Museum, where they soon saw the Joker's goons loading their trucks with artifacts worth millions. They saw some civilians beign held hostage with bombs strapped to them, they couldn't see the Joker until he walked out holding something small in his hand that looked rather expensive.
"... HE HAS MY BROOCH!" - Mushu was looking very angry as the Clown pinned the brooch to his suit
"Wait what?" - WQ looked closer to the brooch... and noticed it has the same energy as Mushu - "oh."
"What do you mean 'oh'? STOP SITTING HERE AND SAVE MY BROOCH AND THOSE PEOPLE!" - Mushu
"I'm gonna ignore the order you said that in." - Wonder Quinn
"I'm calling Bats, sorry, BlackTwizller Heist is a bust." - Batgirl
After Batgirl had called the Bats in, they could only keep an eye out  and not escalated the situation for at least 3 minutes until the other Bats arrived, so they wouldn't risk the hostages' safety. But then they saw the Joker starting to play Russian Roulette with the civilians. Wonder Quinn saw and could feel the terror they felt from their energy and she saw red. She started making her way down the building before Batgirl or Raven could stop her. Landing in an alley, she went around and behind the trucks, crawling under the first truck just as a goon passed where she was standing 3 seconds before. When she saw the Joker about 10ft. from the truck she was under, the first thing she did was send a vine to grab the switch for the bombs in his back pocket — and with some help from Mushu — he never noticed it went missing and was swapped with a seed. She quickly moved underneath another truck closer to the hostages, and began disarming the switch — thanking her Uncle Ed for teaching her everything that went into the making of deadly weapons — as she carefully removed the back panel of the switch. She easily disabled it before noticing the Joker walking up to the back of the truck she was under — about 4ft. from the hostages. She took this opportunity to place the deactivated switch back and started to crawl her way to the first truck 3 ft. away when one of the goons spotted her.
"Hey boss! We got one under the truck!" - Goon
Wonder Quinn froze as the Joker bent down and made eye contact her.
"Well, well, well, looks like you missed one!" - The Joker grabbed Wonder Quinn by the hood of her costume and tossed her to one of the more muscular goons
The Joker then pulled out his gun and shot the goon who had spotted Wonder Quinn - "Honestly, you just can't find good, thorough goons these days." - He turned his attention to Wonder Quinn and had a sense of Deja Vu
"You look familiar..." - The Joker bent his torso down slightly as his hand rested at the bottom of his chin, watching Wonder Quinn thrash under the grip of the muscular goon - "Hold her still!"
The goon listened, not wanting to be shot, and kept one hand on Wonder Quinn's wrists, while his other hand held her head still
"I've seen you somewhere before..." - Just as it seemed the Joker was about to connect the dots, smoke bombs went off around them. Wonder Quinn used the goon's startled state to break free and flip him over her shoulder and onto the Joker. Wonder Quinn saw Raven's illusion of the hostages disappear just as the other Bats arrived on scene with their respective vehicles. She made her way to Raven and the former hostages before the Joker could get back up.
"You're an idiot, you could've gotten killed!" - Raven whisper yelled as she dragged Wonder Quinn behind the magic wall she created to hide her from the other Bats and keep the people safe.
"Yeah, but it gave you enough time to get the people to safety." - Wonder Quinn looked over to the people who were saved and sighed in relief when she saw none of them had any serious physical wounds
"That doesn't change the fact that you could've been killed." - Raven
"Yeah yeah, we saved people, and got you out, BUT WHERE'S MY DAMN BROOCH BLUEBERRY?!" - Mushu
The Bats confronted the Joker and took him out rather quickly, they tied him up to a metal lamppost near the armored truck that was to take him. Mushu was staring relentlessly at Wonder Quinn, while she kept analysing the situation, and then she smiled.
"... Why are you smiling like that?" - Raven already knew she was going to do something she shouldn't
"Gonna kill two birds with one stone... figuratively of course." - And with that Wonder Quinn snuck her way past the police officers, the BatBirds, and up to the Joker, who was sitting on the ground with his arms cuffed behind him around the lamppost with a very brused face
"Pardon me Monsieur Cwack Head Clown, but ai believe zat Broche eez mine." - Wonder Quinn did her best French accent while she grabbed the Brooch, ignoring the offended brused face the Joker gave her
"You have a death wish." - The Joker spoke with a sick smile that promised pain, but it didn't scare the girl, quite the opposite actually
"Non Monsieur, you are meestakén, you are le un wiv a déath wish." - Wonder Quinn flashed a devilish smile that could easily surpass the Joker's as her eyes seemed to take on an almost cat like look with a glow of swirling and crackling toxic green and hints of black on the outer edges of her former Bright Blue orbs. Joker's brused face turned to faint shock as time seemed to stop. The more he looked into the girls' eyes, the more long forgotten fear and anxiety seemed to creep out of the depths of his mind. The voices were screaming for him to run, to get away from her, or she would and could 𝙠𝙞𝙡𝙡 him. Yet he couldn't, he felt like he was frozen as those Toxic green and shadowy black eyes stared into him, looking past the Joker and into his past. It felt like he was staring into a Black hole, or even death itself. The more it sucked him in, the harder it became to see, feel, hear. He couldn't 𝙗𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙩𝙝𝙚.
‘𝐼𝑠 𝑡ℎ𝑖𝑠 𝑑𝑒𝑎𝑡ℎ?’
Everything was going dark as her glowing green eyes remained in the growing darkness. It felt like he was fading. Being 𝙙𝙚𝙨𝙩𝙧𝙤𝙮𝙚𝙙. He didn't — 𝘾𝙤𝙪𝙡𝙙𝙣'𝙩 — feel anything. And as if it was about to fully consume him, it stopped by someone drawing the girls' attention away from him. It all just vanished, only leaving a phantom in it's leave as time and the girls' eyes seemed to go back to normal.
"Hey you! What are you doing?!" - Some police officer
Wonder Quinn snapped out of her stare as she looked behind her, realizing all eyes were on her. She looked to the Batmobile, then to Batman – who made eye contact with her for a full second – before booking it to the Batmobile. Hopping into the front seat she closed the door and started the Car without the keys – thanks to Mushu – and drove off. Everyone infront of the Museum was in silence as they all slowly looked to Batman
"Oh my god... someone ACTUALLY STOLE BATS' RIDE!" - Red Hood was bent over cackling with his right hand on the handle of his motorcycle
"Hood that's... pfff... not funny! hehehe, You know how Bats gets... hehehe, when you cackle like that!" - Batgirl said as she too, began to cackle
"SHUDUP! Hehehe... You're the one cackling like a mad scientist!!!" - Red Hood was unable to stand as he started to wheeze
"DON'T WHEEZE! HAHAHHHHHHHH... YOU'LL ONLY MAKE IT WORSE!!!!" - and soon Batgirl was wheezing as well
No one noticed the faint remanence of terror in the Joker's eyes, they only noticed him when he began his deranged laughing, his smile somehow even more crazed as he looked in the direction where the Batmobile had driven off in. They tossed him into the back of the armored truck heading for Arkham, never once did he stop laughing until they knocked him out.

Wonder Quinn was now driving the Batmobile. She made sure to cut all the wires that would allow them to be tracked and pulled up to an abandoned wearhouse. Once the Batmobile was parked and the wearhouse doors were closed, she put her gasmask on and got to work.
Wonder Quinn was just about done adding the glitter when Raven teleported right next to her.
"Oh, hey Rave! So, whatcha tink of my mastuh piece?" - WQ unknowingly started sounding more like her mom the more excited she got
"It's definitely an improvement." - Raven replied with a small smile
"I also got my Beautiful Brooch back if anyone was wondering." - Mushu huggin his Brooch
"Good for you?" - Raven
"Anyway, magical Brooch and Tavel Size God aside, yuh up fawh addin' de Rain-shit-bow trail?" - WQ pulled down her gasmask to show the mischievous smile that hid below
"We're already all in at this point." - Raven's eyes glowed a faint red as she began to chant her spell - "Azarath metrion zinthos."
They all watched as the Batmobile glowed before going back to it's new glittery glory
"Rev the engine real quick, I wanna see the Rain-shit-bow in person rather than on the news." - Raven
"Sure ting!" - WQ (still not realizing she was talking more and more like her mom) got in the driver's seat and revved the engine. Raven saw a puff of rainbow smoke wizz its way out of the rocket booster with a satisfied smile.
"Did it do de ting?" - WQ looked to Raven, her eyes sparkling with mischief
"Yes. It did de ting." - Raven imitated Wonder Quinn, causing the girl to grin more
WQ paused for a moment as a very faint blush brushed her cheeks in embarrassment - "I started talking like Mama HQ didn't I?" - WQ then hopped out of the Batmobile with a big grin on her face as she looked to the new and improved Batmobile
"Yeah, but it's normal for you. I'm just glad you used your French accent around the Joker, hell forbid he finds out about you." - Raven
"Yeah Blueberry, I may not know this city, but I can tell that guy is 𝘣𝘢𝘵 -shit- crazy. He is definitely unhinged on many different levels." - Mushu, still clinging to his Brooch
"I know, I know. But those people were 𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗿𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗲𝗱. At least my little stunt stopped them and that block from blowing up." - WQ shrugged her shoulders as she went to grab her bat
"Yeah, so pros and cons, just don't do that again." - Raven
"Okay." - WQ gave a smile to Raven as she rested the bat on her shoulders
"Now, don't you have a new glitterfied Batmobile to joyride around Gotham?" - Raven pointing to the Batmobile
Marinette looked to the Batmobile squinting her eyes as she thought - "It needs a better name."
Raven also looked to the Batmobile as she spoke - "... Girlie-Batmobile?"
"Nah, needs something more glamorous." - WQ shook her head before going into a handstand
"... Why are you doing a handstand?" - Raven
"I get my best ideas when my brain is unduh pressure." - WQ kept looking at the Batmobile
". . .I got nothing." - Raven
"KILLER-GLITTER!" - WQ was standing up again as she looked to Raven
"Killer-Glitter?" - Raven repeated
"Killer-Glitter." - WQ nodded her head enthusiastically
"Okay. Now that that's settled, go on and cause your Christmas mayhem before they somehow find you before you even get started." - Raven
"Oh, right! Mushu, come on." - WQ went to Mushu and extended her hand out for him - "Also, should I wear your Brooch now that you got it back?"
"...Fine, but only cause it's you Blueberry." - Mushu handed back his Brooch only for it to instantly glow and morph into a rose gold ring - "..."
"Oh, cool. This makes it less noticable actually." - WQ put the ring on her right hand and extended said hand to Mushu
"... I give up. First I deal with a lady who fought a fucking army as a man, and now my Beautiful brooch is a Damn RING!" - Mushu was a bit teary eyed as he hopped onto Wonder Quinn's shoulder before mumbling to himself - "At least it still looks shiny."
"Your attachment to a magical jewel that can change into any form –but stayed as a Brooch– is a bit concerning." - Raven
"It hasn't change it's shape in over 10 millennias!" - Mushu
"Does this mean I can call you old fart when you're acting like a child?" - WQ was already making her way to the driver's seat when Mushu gasped dramatically
"How dare you! At the very least Ancient One!" - Mushu crossed his arms while he turned his head away
"Nah, that would imply that you're wise and overall not so dramatic... Old One or Geezer if anything." - WQ got another gasp
"No! I refuse! Just give me a nickname that isn't related to my age!" - Mushu didn't notice the grin that spread its way across WQ's face
"Okay... Moo-Moo." - WQ
"... EXCUSE YOU!?" - Mushu
"Down Bessy, no need to shout." - WQ Placed Mushu on the dashboard as she put her seatbelt on
"... Is this Karma?" - Mushu mumbled to himself as the Batmobile's door closed
"Okay, ‘Rainbow Palooza’ is a go." - WQ gave a thumbs up to Raven as she gave the signal over their walkie talkies before driving out of the wearhouse

"Hey Ives!" - Harley shouted for Ivy from Marinette's room
"Yes Harls?" - Ivy was on the couch with Selina, both watching a wild life documentary as Harley came running down the spiral staircase
"Have yuh seen where cupcake went?" - Harley looked to the two women with slight panic
"No, but she's probably just out with Beastboy and Raven." - Selina
"...𝙃𝙚 𝙒𝙝𝙤 𝙎𝙝𝙖𝙡𝙡 𝙉𝙤𝙩 𝘽𝙚 𝙉𝙖𝙢𝙚𝙙 did escape Arkham yesterday." - Ivy was about to get up when they heard a crash in the kitchen, only to see Raven and Beastboy stumble in cackling
"Why are you two laughing like mad- IS 𝙃𝙀 𝙒𝙃𝙊 𝙎𝙃𝘼𝙇𝙇 𝙉𝙊𝙏 𝘽𝙀 𝙉𝘼𝙈𝙀𝘿 HERE?!" - Selina
"Where's Cupcake!?" - Harley
As if on que, the TV changed to a news reporter from a helicopter and they got their answer

"IT HAS A RAIN-SHIT-BOW ROCKET TRAIL!" - Harley was soon cackling with Raven and Beastboy as they saw the chase
·•· – — Inside the Batmobile — – ·•·
"WOOOOHOOOOOOO!!!!!" - Marinette was having the time of her life, she never felt more alive
"SLOW DOWN BLUEBERRY! I THINK I- I'M GONNA HURL!" - Mushu wasn't though, if he wasn't clutching the fabric of Wonder Quinn's outfit in mild terror as he watched the world whiz by in a blur, he probably would be stuck to the very back of the death ride on wheels...
"Oh come on Moo-Moo! We've only been driving for 3 minutes!" - Just as Marinette made a sharp left in an almost perfect Tokyo Drift, she spotted the news chopper that was just behind her - "...That was fast."
"JUST PULL OVER AND WE CAN GET AWAY! PLEASE!" - Mushu was begging, trying to reason with Marinette, but she wasn't listening
Suddenly, the screen on the center console starting ringing, and before she realized it, Batman –with an even bigger scowl– was loking very angrily at her
"First, what the hell did you do to MY Batmobile? Second, pull over and you won't get hurt. Third-" - Batman was cutoff
"There, that's better." - Marinette held the former wires that were for the Batmobile's communications triumphantly as she continued driving
"YOU HUNG UP ON HIM?!" - Mushu
"Yeah, now can you not yell in my ear? I can't multitask, I might crash." - Marinette then threw the wires into the back seat, as she continued looking at the road
"BUT YOU TOOK OUT THOSE WIRES WHILE DRIVING! THAT'S MULTITASKING!" - Mushu
The best way to describe the chase was complete and utter. Chaos. The Batfam were after her, as well as at least 20 cop cars. She drove perfectly, every turn and Rain-shit-bow boost was flawless. She easily lost them more times than she can list on her hands, only to get bored and restart the chase just for them to lose her again.
"Damnit Moo-Moo, you're making my escape too perfect!" - WQ made a full stop in the middle of the richer part of Gotham and noticed a very nice café. Now, normally she wouldn't go in durring a chase, but as she looked behind her and saw absolutely zero life, she decided, why not? Having Mushu with her, she didn't have to worry about much.
So, she got out and stretched a bit before walking in and ordering some pastries and coffee. At First Wonder Quinn wanted to eat quickly and get back behind the wheel, but eating too quickly isn't healthy, so she made sure to take her sweet, sweet time as she enjoyed every bite and sip of her pastries and coffee. She was there for 15 minutes, and the whole time, the Café had a screen playing the news report about her. She couldn't help the small chuckles that escaped her as she saw the utter confusion on Commissioner Gordon's face as he tried to hide his mild panic. Batman was just a bit behind him, and as always, had a poker face with his oh so charming scowl. She could even see him tapping his foot impatiently as the other cops tried to get some info on where she and the new Killer-Glitter were. That's when she noticed one of the workers acting odd and saw one of the officers run up and whisper something to Batman and Gordon.
"Time to go." - Wonder Quinn got up and made her way to the exit, watching out of the corner of her eye as the workers began to act more agitated
She stopped for a moment, turned around and walked up the the worker that was behind the counter and placed a 50 dollar bill –she may or may not have found in the Killer-Glitter– infront of the confused worker before walking out and getting back in the car just as red and blue lights were faintly visible behind her. And the chase began again. They lost her again, she restarted the chase again, then they lost her again- You get the gist of it.
This went on for about 3 hours. It was now 2 a.m., and she lost the adrenaline an hour earlier, so by this point the chase only started again and again because she didn't know what else to do. Seeing Mushu frozen in the passenger seat made her finally call it quits. She drove the Killer-Glitter back to where it all began, at the Museum, and placed it exactly where it was as if she never touched it –Aside from the new look anway. And she took a few pictures to remember this beautiful moment before walking away.
—–—–—–—–—
She was long gone when they found the Killer-Glitter all by its lonesome and Wonder Quinn was happy, though the night still felt like it was missing something. She was walking down some alleys when she felt another weird soul above her.
"I know you're up there Bucket Head." - Wonder Quinn looked up and saw the person jump down
"Will you stop calling me that?" - Red Hood immerged from the shadows and stood just about 4ft. away from Wonder Quinn
"Not until you let me fix your look Bucket Head. So what brings you to little ol' me?" - Wonder Quinn asked as she leaned on the wall of the alley
"1. You kinda stole Bat's ride, 2. You definitely don't have a license, and 3. I want in." - Red Hood
"I'm sorry what now?" - Mushu popped out of WQ's hoodie at Red Hood's words
"4. What the FUCK is that?" - Red Hood
"Yes I stole the Killer-Glitter, I learned how to drive from HQ, what's in it for me? and this is the All Mighty Dramatic as Fuck Mushu." - Wonder Quinn crossed her arms as she stared Red Hood down, ignoring Mushu's dramatic gasp
"More Jolly Chaos?" - Red Hood's tone was mischievous as he seemingly pulled out a big duffle bag from no wear and showed her it's contents
"... Eggs and toilet paper. You plan on egging and tp'ing Gotham?" - Wonder Quinn kept her face neutral as she rased a single eyebrow
"I got a bet I wanna win, and if you're game, we'll split the profits 50-50." - Red Hood reached out his hand as he proposed his offer
"Lets add some artful charcoal designs and Mistletoe while we're at it." - Wonder Quinn shook Red Hood's hand to seal the deal
"Ho ho ho." - Red Hood
"Now, where to first on the naughty list?" - Wonder Quinn
-Jingle Bell Rock!-
They first stopped by the Museum again and tp'd, egged, and charcoaled the building. Then they stopped by WE where they drew the Batfam symbols in charcoal, eggs and tp, and maybe a few inappropriate things courtesy of Red Hood, then they finished it by adding some mistletoe in the more secure areas of the building. Next up was the Botanical Gardens, and they only carefully added Mistletoe so they would thrive because of Wonder Quinn. Then they went to The Iceberg Lounge, they made sure it wasn't too bad with tp and eggs, but they did add a shit ton of Mistletoe to every room and some more profanities and a pile of coal courtesy of Red Hood. After that was the GSPC, where they just put some Tp and Mistletoe. Then they went to Wayne Manor on Wonder Quinn's request, they Tp'd the entire estate, egged drawings and faces of profanity courtesy of Red Hood, and drew with charcoal 'Merry Christmas' (Red Hood may or may not have left coal in the shape of a Katana for Damian). And last but not least, Arkham. The made sure to cover every nook and cranny in tp, eggs, and big lumps of coal. they may or may not have also added some Mistletoe near the bathrooms, the inmate cells, cafeteria, guard room, offices, locker rooms, gear rooms, utility closets... they pretty much got every doorway with Mistletoe.
And so they made Gotham a kissy profanity Christmas wonderland.
-Jingle Bell Rock End-
When the deed was done, they vowed to never speak of their actions to any soul of authority.
And so Marinette was walking down the alley not far from home as she hummed some Christmas songs. After a few minutes she entered the overgrown parking lot, walking through the gate into the lush garden before walking inside the hideout. She was greeted by Ivy and Selina at the door, and saw her friends and Harley replaying over and over the chase from earlier. After a slight scolding she spent the rest of the night with her family and friends on the couch, all falling asleep around 4 a.m.
•—·–·—·–·—–· In the Bat-Cave ·–—·–·—·–·—•
"Done, now we can finally sleep." - Steph, Cass, Barbara, Dick, Jason, Tim and Damian had all finally finished washing off all the paint from the Batmobile. They had just started to walk away when they heard Cass make a loud drawn out whine, the all turned to see the Batmobile coverd in glow in th dark paint
"I'm fucking breaking Father's No Kill rule!" - Damian growled as he threw his sponge at the Batmobile, watching as it weakily hit the car and flopped to the floor. Everyone just left, not wanting to go another night without sleep, Steph and Jason were already laughing like they were on Joker Gas, a sign that they 𝘯𝘦𝘦𝘥 their sleep. Bruce would just have to deal with it.

"Breaking news, after the Batmobile was stolen late into the night and mysteriously returned, Arkham Officials found the entire facility covered in Mistletoe, tp, coal and eggs, a few other locations were also covered, the only one that seemed to only get Mistletoe was the Botanical Gardens, whoever did this, how the **** did you get Santa's traveling powers?-"
The TV was turned off by Selina as she looked to Marinette - "Look Kitten, I don't know how you did it, but I am so proud of you!" - Selina gave Marinette a hug, only to be stopped by Harley unmuting the TV
"Update, turns out the Arkham inmates didn't take to well to the Coal and Mistletoe, some are now in critical care while the others are now locked in their coal filled room-"
"D'ja rig any of de coals in Mistuh J's cell?" - Harley gave Marinette a hug as she asked her question
"They may be sharp, and he won't be able to sleep until they get the coal out." - Marinette replied
"I will say this, well done on the execution." - Ivy also hugged Marinette for a moment - "You're also grounded for driving without an adult next to you in the car."
"But Mushu is an Adult!" - Marinette pointed to Mushu who was in the fetal position, rocking back and forth and sucking his claw
"... I tink yuh broke him Cupcake."

And that's how Gotham had both the best, and weirdest Christmas ever, Marinette couldn't go out for the next few day, both because she was grounded and because Robin was out for revenge.
All in all, it was an amazing Christmas.

Next chapter is finally out! Hope you're all having a wonderful day! BUG-OUT! 💮🐞💮

prompt 18 for Stephanie/Marinette
18. “This is without a doubt the stupidest plan you’ve ever had. Of course I’m in.” Marinette grinned at Steph and then jumped down from the ledge that she had been lounging on.
Steph started laughing and followed her across the roof. "You underestimate me if you think this is the stupidest plan. Should have heard what Tim and I did last week."
"You think that there's anything more stupid than trying to steal the batmobile? From the streets? While B is like twenty feet away?" Marinette laughed and swung to the next building.
Steph landed next to her. "Hood got three of the tires off before B came back, and we're just using the key that Tim helped me steal from the cave."
"I just think he's going to catch us and I'll be the one in trouble." Marinette laughed as she ran towards the edge of the building.
"You know that I'd be the one taking the blame." Steph laughed, keeping up with her.
"Alright! Let's do this!" Marinette jumped off the building letting out a whoop and Steph followed her with her own cheer.

Taking Chances Ch. 23: Stealing the Batmobile (Alt Prompt Driving)
AO3
Prev
Marinette looks at her little brother with an amused expression before asking:
“He really stole the Batmobile?”
“Yup. Claimed he was a better driver than me.” Dick says with a snort. Marinette winces.
“To be fair, he’s probably right. You’re kind of an awful driver.” She says with an apologetic smile. Dick clutches his heart and sniffles loudly.
“My own flesh and blood!” He cries dramatically. Damian scoffs.
“Tt. She is on my side, Grayson. As she should be since she is <i>my<i> flesh and blood.” He says with a scowl.
“The pain!” Dick cries, throwing himself off the couch and onto the ground. Jason just sighs and shakes his head, while Tim looks on tiredly. The five of them had decided to hang out at the manor together earlier, which had somehow shifted into telling stories about each other and funny things that had happened. Marinette loved hearing stories about her brothers from when they were younger.
“Out of all of us, I am likely the most competent driver.” Damian says, glancing at Marinette before nodding once. “And I assume Marinette would be the second most competent.” He adds. Marinette’s face instantly turns red- she’d never driven before. Her little brother (who was two years younger) was already a great driver. And she…..was not.
“Oh, uh, I’ve actually never driven before.” She admits. Damian frowns.
“Wait, you’re almost fifteen and you’ve never driven before?” Jason asks, leaning forward. “Like, ever”
“Well, no. You can’t get a license in France until you’re eighteen. So no one in their right mind is going to let a fourteen year old drive around the city.” She explains. She watches as a thoughtful look crosses Damian’s face before settling back into a neutral mask.
“I require your assistance with something. Follow me.” He says, standing and walking out of the room.
“Er, okay.” She says, furrowing her eyebrows. “We’ll be right back.” She reassures her other brothers. She walks quicker, trying to catch up with Damian who was practically running at this point. He glances at her and raises an eyebrow.
“Did the others act as if they would follow?” He asks. She frowns, but shakes her head. “Excellent.” He says, opening one of the entrances to the Batcave. She follows him, but freezes as they walk in and she sees where he’s heading.
“Damian, we’d get into so much trouble.” She says, planting her feet and freezing in place.
“Not if we aren’t caught. Which we will be if we don’t leave soon.” He says, rushing into the changing room. She stays where she is, glancing down at Tikki peeking out of her purse.
“Marinette, your father would not like this.” She warns. Marinette bites her lip.
“I know, but Damian seemed so excited.” She counters, with a small smile. Tikki gives her an unimpressed look. Marinette watches as her little brother walks back out, dressed in his uniform. He nods at her once and then climbs into the driver’s side. She hesitates, weighing her options. She could go with and attempt to drive the Batmobile, or she could watch her little brother drive away and know that no one knew where he was. Crap. Pushing away every instinct telling her this is a horrible idea, she rushes after Damian and hops into the car, calling her transformation as she does. She grins at her brother, her Ladybird suit had started giving her more confidence than her Ladybug suit. It was odd, but she loved it. He immediately slams on the gas, driving out of the cave and into Gotham.
“Ukht, will you be driving as well?” He asks and she hesitates before nodding. It was the Batmobile, what could go wrong?
---
Okay apparently a lot could go wrong, she thinks, watching as the Batmobile slides into the Gotham river.
“How the fuck did you guys manage that?” A voice asks. She whirls around, wincing when she sees Jason, as Red Hood. She can’t see his face but she can just imagine the look he’s giving them.
“In my defense, we were left unsupervised.” She says. He scoffs.
“You little shits left us!” He reminds her.
“Ladybird had never had the chance to drive before. It made sense to make sure that she could drive and to train her in case she ever needs to utilize a vehicle on patrol.” Damian reasons. And yeah, the reasons are sound. But the Batmobile slowly sinking into the river kind of makes his reasons weak. Just a bit.
“And driving into the river was, what, to see if she could drive a boat?” Jason asks, crossing his arms.
“Don’t be ridiculous, Hood. That’s a car.” She says, the words tumbling out of her mouth. She regrets it, but only for a second because then she hears Damian snort. Score! Every time she was able to make her angriest brother laugh, she gave herself a point. She was so close to double digits.
“Well B’s gonna be ready to go on patrol in less than an hour. Either of you two geniuses have any ideas on how to get the car out of the river and back to the cave?” Jason asks, pulling Marinette from her silent celebration.
“We could call a tow truck.” She suggests.
“Tt. That is unwise. The Batmobile is not a regular car.” Damian argues and she huffs.
“Okay well, last I checked you didn’t have any bright ideas either.” She quips, annoyed with him again. They were good at that. Laughing one minute, then annoying each other the next. She figured it just meant they were doing something right as siblings.
“Ladybird might actually have a good idea, Robin. Unless you want to call Superman here and have him rat you out to B.” Jason says. A devious smirk stretches onto Damian’s face and Marinette suppresses a shudder. She was definitely glad the kid was on her side. Most of the time, anyway.
“Excellent point, Hood.” He says, clearing his throat slightly before yelling. Well, not really yelling. Just talking slightly louder than normal. “Jon. I require your assistance.” A few moments later a boy flies down and lands in front of Damian. If she didn’t know any better, Marinette would assume the boy was another of her dad’s kids. Dark hair, blue eyes. But this kid had a huge smile stretched across his face. So maybe not.
“Hey Robin! I haven’t seen you in ages!” The boy says cheerfully before waving at Red Hood. He turns to her and his smile falters slightly before it’s back full blast. He sticks out his hand. “Nice to meet you! I’m Superboy.” He says. Marinette grins, shaking his hand back.
“Ladybird, and likewise.” She says.
“So what-” Jon (Superboy?) starts, glancing at the river, eyes widening at the car. “Did you steal the Batmobile again!?” He yelps, obviously shocked. And concerned. Which she understood. It’s not everyday you see the Batmobile slowly sinking into the Gotham river.
“Er, temporarily misappropriated.” Marinette says, glaring at Jason who snorts at her response.
“No, they definitely stole it. And Ladybird here decided she’d try to drive for the first time. What I’m not understanding is why you knuckleheads thought it’d be smart to drive so close to the river?” He says.
“Obviously I wasn’t thinking clearly, Hood. Can we please just focus on getting the car out of the river before I’m murdered by Batman?” Marinette rambles, looking pleadingly at Jon. It was odd, begging a little kid to drag her superhero dad’s super car out of a river, but it had to be done.
“Oh, yeah, of course!” Jon says, his earlier shock replaced with a wide smile once again. He flies over and grabs the car, gently pulling it up and placing it back on the road. Marinette winces at the water pouring out of the car. She was so grounded.
---
Walking into the Batcave, Bruce frowns at the lack of Batmobile. He’d passed Tim and Dick on his way to the Cave, so he knew they didn’t have it. Which left his two most mischievous sons and the daughter they had so easily corrupted. Hopefully they were just getting fast food or something again. Hopefully nothing bad was happening. He winces. That was unlikely with his children. He rushes over to the computer, tracking the Batmobile and accessing the cameras near the car. The image in front of him makes him pinch the bridge of his nose and grit his teeth.
“Just one day, one day is all I ask.” He mumbles under his breath. Because of course traffic cameras would catch Superboy lifting the Batmobile out of the river. Of course. He sits in his chair and watches as the kids argue for a few minutes before getting in the car and driving off. He tracks them all the way until they’re past cameras, and then he waits. Knowing it’ll only be moments until they’re in the Cave. He sits, silent as they get out of the car.
“No, seriously, he’s gonna know.” Marinette is saying, obviously looking nervous.
“Then beg Tikki to take all the water out or something. It’ll be fine, Pix.” Jason says.
“She’s gonna be so mad at me though. She warned me that it was a bad idea.” Marinette says, and Bruce decides to speak up.
“She was right.” He says, turning his chair to face them.
“SHIT! Goddamn you Bruce, why the hell would you sneak up on us like that?” Jason huffs out, glaring at him.
“Perhaps it’s the same reason that you three thought it was a good idea to steal the Batmobile.” Bruce says, crossing his arms.
“Uh, fuck that. I wasn’t in on it. I went out to try and find the little shits when I realized they were gone.” Jason argues, crossing his arms too.
“Ukht had never driven before. I believed it was a useful skill that she could utilize on future missions or patrols.” Damian says simply, his calm demeanor the complete opposite of Marinette’s current demeanor. She’s obviously panicked and anxious, avoiding looking at him. He feels his former resolve soften slightly. No one was hurt, they obviously felt bad. And Marinette obviously felt bad about it. But still….
“You’re benched for the night. Both of you.” He instructs. Damian grits his teeth but nods, while Marinette looks confused.
“But I’m not even-” She starts to say, stopping as Jason throws a hand over her mouth. “Well, well, look at the time. I’ll take them upstairs and tuck ‘em in before patrol.” Jason says, rushing away with Marinette and leaving Damian behind. Damian turns to Bruce and frowns.
“It did not go unnoticed by me, Father, that you benched the one child you do not allow to patrol. You may have done this in an attempt to not punish Marinette, but make no mistake she will remember this. And she will be on patrol later this week. After all, you only benched her for tonight.” Damian says, nodding at his father before walking away. Bruce sighs. He hadn’t thought this one through.
---
“What was that for?” Marinette asks, frowning at her brother as he drags her to the house. She drops her transformation as they walk, wincing slightly at the ‘we’ll talk later’ look from Tikki. Oh yeah, she was definitely getting lectured.
“He just benched you for tonight, right?” Jason asks, a smirk on his face. Marinette huffs.
“Yeah, but I’m not even technically allowed on patrols.” She reminds him.
“Except now, you’re technically allowed to come tomorrow. He said you were ‘benched for the night’.” Jason points out. Marinette opens her mouth to argue, then closes it. She blinks before a wide smile stretches across her face. Was she really gonna get to go back on patrol on a technicality? Suddenly, she no longer regretted driving the Batmobile into the river.

*daminette and biosibling Jasonette
*Gothamite street kid mari that got found by joker and got taken away when Jason went off to steal a hubcap from the batmobile.
* Jason gets adopted and tells Bruce about his sister once he learned to trust him... They search everywhere in Gotham only to be told that she has been assumed dead.
* Jason doesn't give up and keeps searching as Robin. Joker uses Marinette as bait for Robin. Robin gets beat up in front of her and gets unmasked. Face unrecognisable to joker but not to Marinette Todd. Jason dies in front of her. Batman comes in and beats Joker. Marinette takes a pendant hanging around Jason's neck and escapes while batman and joker are fighting. Building blows up. Marinette runs gets caught and gets shipped to France.
*Marinette gets adopted by a pair of bakers
*Marinette keeps Jason's pendant on her always. (becomes her "lucky charm")
*she becomes ladybug at 12
*class salt! Adrien salt! Some classmate redemption
*Marinette has had the last straw.
*she waits for lila and adrien to leave the group. And pulls alya and nino into an alleyway.
*tries to talk some sense into them.
*forces alya to sit down and search online for every single claim that lila makes. And that alya that if she is able to find at least one reliable source proving that she was right, she'd stop calling lila a liar. Alya being confident searches to see if one of lila's claims is true. Shocked that it proved her wrong, she searched for more. Only proving even more that Marinette was right this whole time.
*while alya searches, she dares nino to lay out a rough time line outline of lila's "adventures". And notice how it shows her being in 2 different countries at one (anything weirdly suspicious... And just doesn't seem to fit or seem right.) *like living in Gotham when she was really young and being Damian's childhood friend since diapers and is close with all his brothers : when it's public knowledge that he only came to Gotham when he was 10*(and she isn't even an English speaker)
*then tells them what happened with Adrien
*they beg for forgiveness. Mari forgives but isn't ready to start a friendship (because trust issues~~)
*mari wins a class trip to gotham
*goes to Gotham. Gets locked in the Gotham airport toilet stall. Bus is gone, but missed calls and messages from Alya, Nino, Alix, Max and Chloe. (at least they have her luggage) ( and good thing mari knows Gotham)
*on her way to the hotel and gets dragged in an alleyway. Beats up the guy (unknowingly has an audience Robin)
*he noticed her drop something. Picks it up and tries to get it to her but she's gone.
*Robin returns to the batcave and puts the pendant beside the batcomputer. Redhood notices. Takes a look at it and is shocked.
*demands Robin to tell him where he found it. So Robin tells him about a short lady with raven hair beating up her mugger and running away from the alleyway.
*Jason hacks into the cctv footage. Finds the fight and tracks mari down to a hotel.
*when mari gets to her room she panics over her brother's lost pendant. And leaves early morning to the alleyway to search for it.
*Jason first thing in the morning drives his motorcycle to the hotel only to find that she isn't there. So he drives all over Gotham looking for her. Returns to the Manor at sunset and visits the hotel as redhood. Finds her window and observes.
*Mari feels like she's being watched and pretends not to notice. So she climbs out her window onto the fire escape and goes up to the roof. (better safe than sorry. She'd rather have a fight on the roof than in her room and alert the class)
*Jason (redhood: mari doesn't know) and Mari reunion (with Robin watching: partnered with redhood for the night)
*short fight between redhood and Mari until Jason stops her punch and calls her *pixie pop*
*shocked she backs off and calls him "jay-jay?"
**emotional drama**
- mari thought he was dead. Jason thought she was killed by joker. And all that jazz.
- basically a teary sibling reunion
- Jason gives her the pendant.
*mari now knows about the batfam but she doesn't tell Jason about being ladybug and a guardian yet. Yet!
*she refuses to leave Paris alone just yet. Jason knows something is up but doesn't ask about it. Yet.
*she gets introduced to Robin(daminette 👀)
And then~~~~ yall do the rest if your interested in my idea. Feel free~~~ just tag me please. I'd love to read it 😘💖

A Moment in Time: Ch 6
MASTERPOST
At dinner, Gina regaled them with stories of her adventures with Jason. When Tom expressed his surprise at some of the things Jason had tagged along on the Gotamite laughed.
“you do know the only reason Bruce got me was because I was caught stealing the tires off the Batmobile, right?” Marinette choked, snapping to lock eyes with her mother.
“I told you he did something stupid.” The woman laughed in agreement, while Tom studied the young man in front of him.
“who did you say adopted you Bruce Something?” Jason rolled his eyes.
“Bruce Wayne. Gotham’s resident billionaire, and the collector of lost children.” Marinette narrowed her eyes.
“This wouldn’t be the same Bruce Wayne that the entirety of the media has decided I’m either dating the son of or am the newest child of, would it?” Jason laughed.
“yup defiantly the same Bruce. To be fair, he’s been on a quiet kick with the adopting thing. We think he’s planning something. And, in my defense, the only reason I knew what was going on was Tim came into my apartment simmering in anger that the press was stalking him again[Jd1] .” He paused, “oh and I went to pick up one of the tabloids so that I could immortalize his shame and was met with your face.” Here he turned to Marinette. “if they hadn’t run that story, I may never have seen you again.” The watery smile that he was met with made him smile. Gina spluttered.
“Bambino! Do you really think I would have let you go without meeting my family! Honestly!” Marinette giggled, while her mother rolled her eyes.
“let’s go back to the Batmobile for a moment. What were you going to do, just leave a note after taking the tires? Write a quick thanks and leave?” Sabine’s humor quickly lightened the atmosphere as everyone laughed.
“no, actually. I was going to leave a red chrysanthemum.” Jason’s response made Marinette break into giggles.
“you were going to leave my sign? Jason!” the rest of the table looked around, clearly lost. Taking pity on them, Marinette went on to explain. “the red chrysanthemum is my favorite flower. It’s also one that we were able to get ahold of easily in Gotham. Jason always called me his Chrysanthemum because it means hope. He called my Chrys when we were with other kids so that I was harder to track. He literally called me his hope for years. It’s also why,” here she looked her grandmother dead in the eye, “they are the symbol for my brand.” The older woman tossed her head back in a laugh.
“Only you, Marinetta. Only you.” Here, her Nona focused her attention to Jason. “although I’m surprised I didn’t put it together sooner. After all, that is Jason’s favorite flower.” The young adult turned red. “he even has it on his keychain.”
The entire family all turned to smile at Jason.
After dinner, Jason and His sister climbed the ladder to the attic. Jason glanced around as his sister closed the trap door. The grey walls were covered with pictures of who he assumed were her friends. There were designs interspersed, and above the desk, a corkboard was filled with designs. A dress form was next to the desk, a grey dress pinned onto it, partially done. A chaise lounge and a collection of bean bags were over in the corner, and there were lights strung along the walls. His sister moved to lean against a ladder that led to a loft.
Now that they weren’t with the others, Jason could see her mask slipping. Tears started to tumble down her cheeks again, and Jason strode over to the small girl. “I gotcha. I’m here.” His sister clutched his jacket and buried her face in his shirt. Jason simply held his sister as she cried once again. Eventually, she looked up at him, her blue eyes still watery.
“Can we go to the balcony? I…” he squeezed her shoulders.“of course. You lead, and I will follow you. Anywhere.” A small smile was sent over his sister’s shoulder at that, and the girl climbed up the ladder. At the top, she fiddled with something in the roof. Then, there was a shift, and a small hatch above her bed flipped open. She lifted herself out of the hatch and gestured for Jason to follow.
When he poked his head out onto the roof, Jason was met with a sea of lights and the city around them. A moment later, he was leaning against the rail, while his sister curled up on the lounge chair. “I’m sorry.” Jason’s head whipped around to look at her, shocked.
“Why are you sorry, sis? You have nothing to be sorry for.” The small girl shook her head, staring out over the city.
“I…I left you though. I should have tried more to get back. I should have-”
“No. hey, kid.” she continued to stare over the city, fear obvious on her face. It hit Jason like a truck, as he studied her. His sister was scared that he would blame her. She was scared that he would leave her. She was resigning herself to taking the blame for a situation that she had no control. “you were FIVE. You couldn’t control what happened. Hell, even when I was older, I wasn’t able to do anything.” Jason pushed off the railing and squatted in front of his sister. “we were given the short end of the of the fucking stick as kids. Our lives are a mess, but in the end…” the small girl shook her head, blue meeting blue as they locked eyes.
“but…Jason. I don’t. I don’t deserve this. I-I’m just me. I just have…I’ve been given chances and opportunities. But I-” Jason reached out and laid a hand over her clenched hands. She looked down in surprise before releasing her hold on her hands.
“you have always been smart, creative, and kind. Life dealt you a shitty hand, and you have blossomed under the care of Tom and Sabine. You are becoming a strong, beautiful, talented young woman.” She narrowed her eyes, objection clear on her face, when Jason shook his head. “don’t think I didn’t notice the designs in your room. Those aren’t amateur.” His sister shook her head.
“but I left you. I left you and you were all alone. And I know that there’s a police report with your death on it! It was later revised, but it was there! for years. And- and- you were hurt. And I know that if you know Nona, then you weren’t safe when you two met. And it’s all my fault because I wasn’t there.”
Guilt hit Jason like a brick, settling in the pit of his stomach. He closed his eyes and took a deep breath. His sister blamed herself for something that she shouldn’t even know about.
“how did you know about that?” his sister’s hands started to shake, and she gripped her forearms.
“Are you mad?”
“no…sis, I…that file is buried deep in the GCPD database. The only person who can really access it are the bats. Bruce asked them to literally burry that information.”
“I hacked the GCPD years ago. I wanted to know if you got brought in. And then…one day, that…that file came up. It was horrible. I didn’t tell anyone what happened, and when they asked me later…I just told them that you were dead. I didn’t…didn’t explain.” Jason wrapped his sister in a hug and held her tight.
“you hacked the GCPD?” she tensed.“yes. I promise I-”
“that’s fucking badass, kid. I have a friend who hacks, all the time. She would probably love to see what you’ve done.” She glanced up, surprised.
“really?”
“of course.” She smiled and fidgeted happily for a minute. Then, the smile slid off her face, and she stared down at her hands.
“it’ll never happen though.”
“what? Why do you say that?”
“you hate me.” Jason jolted, staring down at his sister.
“what.”
“you hate me.”
“yeah no. I heard ya, kid. I just don’t know where the fuck you are getting this idea from.”
“Jason. You won’t even say my name! downstairs you did, but now…you won’t even say my name.”
“fucking hell kid. I- that’s not- that is not- of course I don’t hate you.” She snorted her disbelief obvious on her face.
“you don’t have to pretend Jason. There’s only the two of us up here. You don’t need to spare my feelings.”
“no, kid. You don’t- That’s not it. I just…you. Your name changed. I didn’t want to…it’s your name, whichever you choose but. I- I don’t want …I don’t want to call you Chrys if you don’t feel comfortable with it anymore. I don’t want to call you Marinette if that’s not who you are. I just-”
“oh” suddenly, Jason was knocked backward, his arms suddenly full of his sister. “I didn’t. I. thank you.” He held her close, and stayed there, knocked back on his ass, his sister in his arms, and the Paris skyline surrounding them.
His sister shifted eventually, turning her blue eyes on him. “I don’t care what you call me. As long as you don’t leave.” Jason smiled, relief flooding his system.
“never. Never again. I promise.” She smiled and leaned against him. the siblings stayed in their hug, blocking out the outside world for just one more minute. Eventually, Jason could hear Sabine call for them down below. Resignedly, he separated himself from his little sister. As they approached the trap door to return to the house, she turned to him and smiled;
“I do like the name Marinette. It’s given me a new start.” Jason smiled at her.
“of course, M. I think it’s a very pretty name too.”
His sister, Marinette, lit up.

Twins
I’m a twin.
Six year old Jason creating a distraction while Marinette pickpocketed a couple. Marinette learning to sew to make blankets for her and Jay for winter. Jason reading a book to Mari while she's holding her head you could see blood on her hand. The eight year old twins curled up together, there was a dirty plate and crumbs of a stolen cake to the side, saying happy birthday to each other.
I had a brother.
Marinette and Jason are running away from fifteen robbers trying to kill Jason and sell Marinette. Marinette was happy she had her brother Jay and as long as he was there, she’d be fine. Jason and Marinette were at a field having a picnic with what they could scrap up.
His name was Jason.
Now thirteen year old Marinette and Jason stealing the Batmobile’s tires they’re almost done when they look up to see Batman looking at them with a stern expression. They are thirteen when they don’t have to live in the streets instead they are now Jason Todd and Marinette Todd wards of Bruce Wayne. Jason is fourteen when he becomes Robin, fourteen when he and Bruce start getting into daily fights. Fifteen when Jason Todd leaves Wayne manor and one Marinette Todd broken, crying.
He was killed by Joker, wasn’t he?
Fifteen is the age where two become one. Jason Todd is dead. Fifteen is where Marinette has enough, Gotham is not for her. She packs up her bags, says bye to Bruce and Alfred and gets on a plane to Paris. She doesn’t cry, her tears dried up when his heartbeat stopped.

Jasonette July Day 14: Loss
Written by: The Maribat Pit  @jasonette-july-event Prompt: Loss Rated: T (Presumed Major Character Death) Based on the trailer for the upcoming Gotham Knights game: https://youtu.be/IhVf_3TeTQE (TW: flashing images towards the end of the trailer)
Jason is walking home on a rainy night in Gotham after a long day working with Roy.  He was hoping to quickly get back home to his girlfriend and relax for a few days. He felt his phone vibrate, he took it out from his pocket to see it was a call from Batman. The words “Incoming Transmission: Code Black” were written boldly across his screen. Jason had a bad feeling about this. He walked into a nearby alley and looked around to see if he was truly alone before taking this urgent call.
He was unsure whether to pick up the call or not, his relationship with Bruce had been strained ever since he was killed by the Joker and came back as the Red Hood. Even if they had reconciled, they still argued and disagreed with one another.  This was probably him asking if he was willing to go undercover again like he had done with Black Mask.  He continued to stare at the phone, thinking of all the possible reasons that Bruce may have wanted to call him. “What is Code Black?” He thought to himself as he answered the call.
His phone sparks to life with the image of Bruce, Jason immediately knew something was wrong. Bruce never showed his face in any Bat related communication. “If you’re watching this, I’m dead.” Jason could not believe what he was seeing, he barely registers the rest of the message. Thinking back to how he first met Batman, trying to steal the wheels off the Batmobile. To him, Batman was invincible, invisible and unstoppable. After all his training as Robin and even after his return as Red Hood, a small piece of him had felt that Batman could not be beaten. He had watched Batman face aliens from outer space and gods from another world. Knowing that Batman was well and truly gone felt...impossible.
He slowly trudges home, his vision blurs as he slowly makes it home on autopilot. He enters his apartment, not even taking his wet clothes or shoes off. Marinette hears him walk in, “Welcome home Jay, I made boeuf bourguignon.” Jason doesn’t even notice her, and in that moment she knew something wasn’t quite right. Normally Jason would joke about how it was a miracle nothing was burning, it could happen, given how clumsy Marinette was.  He slowly drags his feet to the living room and slumps on the sofa, his head in his hands. Marinette peeks her head around the corner, looking visibly concerned.
Marinette slowly walked to the sofa and sat next to Jason, putting a hand on his thigh. “Jay?” she quietly asked.
Jason’s voice begins to crack “He’s gone, I can’t believe it, he's really gone.” He lifts his head up to look Marinette dead in the eye, “Mari, Bruce is gone.”
Marinette gasps, she had heard the news report but she didn’t think it was true.  She had assumed it was the start of an elaborate ruse, but the look in Jason’s eyes told her otherwise.  Marinette knew Jason and Bruce’s relationship was complicated, but he was visibly hurt and shocked by the news.  Jason wanted a lot of things, he never really wanted Bruce to die, not like this anyway. If that were the case he would have gone through with his plan of blowing up the Batmobile, all those years ago.  Marinette reached up to gently wipe a tear from his face, he held her hand close to his face before she could pull it away.  It was the first of many that would be shed at that moment.
For so many years, before and after he died, Jason wanted Bruce to understand him.  He seemed like a pointy-eared brick wall at times, he never thought there would come a day when it would fall.  Batman had almost seemed untouchable, even when Bane broke his back, he came back stronger than any of them.  Marinette gave a startled little squeak as he pulled her close to him, before wrapping her arms around him. He pulled away slightly but her face was still very close to his, he ran his thumb along her cheek as she leaned into his touch.  He savoured the warm softness beneath his fingertips.  His teary eyes looked into hers for a moment, before he leaned in close to kiss her.  At that moment, he needed to feel the warmth that radiated off of her.  He needed to hold her close to him, he needed to know that she was really there, and not just a cruel fleeting dream.
Marinette was surprised, in the years that she had known him this wasn't a side of Jason that she had seen before.  There was a feeling of desperation in that kiss, one that only Marinette was privy to.  Whenever Jason kissed her in the past, sometimes it was passion, sometimes with a gentle softness, and other times because he took a certain delight in making her blush.  This time there was passion, but almost never with the desperation and anguish he felt at that very moment.  By contrast, Marinette was a lot more trusting, more forgiving, more optimistic.  It was something that Jason didn’t take lightly, especially considering the person he was by comparison.  With the Kwamis' help, she had seen him through his bouts of pit madness.  Nevertheless, when the kiss broke, she was breathless for a moment, but she didn't pull away.   She rested her forehead against his, brushing aside the occasional tear from his eyes.
For the rest of the night Jason continued to hold Marinette close to him, his chest heaved with sobs every so often. Even with his complicated relationship with Bruce, he was still the one who adopted, taught and cared for this street urchin of Gotham. As the two held each other, Jason’s phone began to ring, displaying Nightwing’s blue bird symbol on screen. Jason took out the phone and looked to see who was calling. He stared at the screen, unsure how to talk to Dick after the loss of Bruce. He looks back to Marinette, ”answer it” she told him with a gentle smile, he needs to be with his family now.
Jason took a deep breath and answered “Hello?”
He could hear Dick’s voice, unusually hoarse on the other end “Hey Little Wing, you saw the message didn’t you?”
Jason solemnly responded “Yeah. I got his message.”
“We need you Jason, just as Bruce said, Gotham needs its guardians. We’re all here at the Belfry. Babs, Tim, Steph, even Duke and Cass. Are you with us?” asked Dick.
Jason looks back to Marinette, who then nodded to him with a smile and mouthed “Go.”
He turns back to the phone, “I’ll be there in an hour, Ladybug can handle things here”.
As he ends the call and stands up from the sofa, Marinette puts a hand to his chest and lifts a finger, signaling to wait just a moment before running to the bedroom. She returns with two wrapped presents, “They were meant for your birthday next month, but...I think you need it now more than ever.”
She places the two boxes next to Jason, and asks him to open them up. Jason picks up the first box, slowly unwrapping to reveal new body armour. His eyes widen, he runs a hand across the large red bat symbol on its chest.
“Mr. Fox and I worked on this for you, he may be an excellent inventor but he lacks a tailor’s touch.” she explained. Taking out a cue card from the gift box, Marinette clears her throat and begins reading from it. “The tri-weave bodysuit consists of an outer and inner layer made from a titanium-dipped tri-weave fiber mesh.”  Marinette tried to read the words with some confidence, despite the fact that English was her second language. She wasn’t even sure if English speakers understood what these words meant. “Sandwiched in between is the MR-fluid based liquid armor system. The proprietary WayneTech Smart MR-fluid hardens in response to impacts, specifically designed to provide superior shock absorption.” As she read the cue card, Marinette thought working these materials into the design was challenging enough, never mind having to list out what they were for.  Still, not everyone had her magical super suit, so she never really thought about how a normal human would have to shield themselves.  Judging by the smile growing on Jason’s face, clearly she was reading some things right. “The liquid body armor layer is also more flexible than the ceramic or fiber-based armour, allowing for greater maneuverability.”  Marinette took a breath and gently placed the cue card back into the box, “I hope you understood those words, because I didn’t” she joked, and for the first time since he’d come home she saw Jason smile. “I also modelled it after your favourite hoodie for maximum comfort.” Saying the last two with emphasis as if it was the most important thing when it came to armour.
Jason chuckles, “This is perfect Pixie, thank you.” As he stands up to give her a hug, she stops him and gestures to the other gift. As he opens the second box he sees within a new Red Hood helmet. “Same materials as your suit. Light, breathable and comfortable.”
Jason picks up the new helmet and begins inspecting it from all angles. He is curious about the black embellishments around the vision slits of the helmet. “Hey Pixie, what's with the dark eye rings?” he asks, turning his head to face her.
She gives him a wink “Red Hood with a pinch of Ladybug.”
Jason places the helmet down and goes to the bedroom to change into his new armour.  Tikki zooms over and both of them give each other a firm nod. If Jason was putting his trust in Marinette to hold the fort here, there was no way she was going to let him down.

Happy Birthday Jason!
Jason ran as fast as he could through the streets back to his apartment where he knew his twin sister was waiting for him.  He raced up the fire escape and did a special tap against the window before opening it and entering the rundown broken apartment building.  As soon as he set his feet on the grossly stained carpet he felt a small body ram into him.
“HAPPY BIRTHDAY JAY-JAY!”
His small sister, Marinette, cheered loudly as she crushed him in a hug.  He smiled as he hugged her back.
“Hey Pix.  Have you been good, didn’ cause too much trouble did ya?”
She shook her head against his chest and then jumped back as she ran towards their thin dirty sheet they used at night and brought it over to him.
“Abuela gave me some money for cleaning her floors, so I gotcha somethin’!”
He pulled out a small cheap cardboard box from his hoodie pocket and handed it to her.
“Picked up enough money to get you somethin’ too.”
Her smile brightened, her smile didn’t belong in such a dark place.  They traded the gifts to each other and both were extremely happy.  Jason had given Marinette a small bracelet with a red string and different colored beads.  Marinette had gotten her brother an old book from the thrift shop that obviously used, but it was still good enough to be able to properly read from.  The book was titled Pride and Prejudice.  He looked so awed by the book and she felt immense pride in herself.  There was a bit of bread left over from a few days ago and Marinette made sure it was equally split so her brother also had his proper fill.  It was his birthday too after all!
When it was time to go to sleep Jason read a chapter of the book to her then, the big meanie, made her read a chapter for him.  She stuttered a lot, but he would just smile and help her pronounce the word.  She was so lucky to have such an amazing big brother.
~~~~~~~~ It just didn’t feel right.  He had been living in the manor for a year now, and today felt so wrong without her.  Marinette had been taken by CPS three months before he had been caught stealing the tires off of the Batmobile.  He needed the money to hire a private investigator in order to find his sister.  It’s not that he didn’t trust Bruce, he just didn’t want him to put his sister into the danger that he was putting himself into as the new Robin.  He just knew that she would insert herself into vigilante life if she knew he was doing it.
Alfred seemed to understand what he was going through as he walked into the kitchen.  He didn’t know how the man knew, but he learned not to question it after spending about half a year in the manor.  He was silently eating his pancakes when Dick burst into the room yelling,
“HAPPY BIRTHDAY J-BIRD!”
While scooping him into his trademark octopus hugs.  Jason struggled to get out of it as shock and adrenaline coursed through his veins.  Instincts from living on the streets for many years never really going away.
“How old are you now?  You’re 14, right?”
“Yea, now get off me!”
He did not in fact get off of Jason, at least not until Alfred told him to a few seconds later.  Rolling out his arms and shoulders he rolled his eyes at his brother and turned back to his food.  After a few moments of peace Dick poked his arm to get his attention.  Jason sighed and turned to the side to look at Dick.
“Yes?”
“Here, I got you a present.”
Dick said with a bright smile that reminded him so much of his younger sisters.  He looked down and saw a rectangular looking thing hidden behind brightly colored and nicely wrapped wrapping paper.  Jason carefully took the book with a small thank you nod and tore open the paper to be met with a nice hard cover book of Peter Pan.
“I know we already have it in the library, but I thought you would want your own, and I just felt like you would like it.”
Dick said as he saw the gentle, reminiscent(?) look in Jason’s eyes as he stared at the book.  Jason willed himself not to cry as he stared at the book.  The book that inspired the nickname he gave his sister.  Abuela had read this book to them while they had stayed at her home during a harsh winter day.  Bless her soul, he knew that she was in the best place of heaven, if that place even existed.
Barbara walked into the kitchen with a bright smile and ruffled his hair.
“Happy birthday Jay.”
She said happily.  Jason looked up and gave her a small smile.
“Thanks.”
He hugged the book close to his chest.
“Means a lot.”
~~~~~~~~ Jason was angry, he didn’t understand why this was happening.  His body burned and everything felt like it was burning with pain.  He was training in the League with Talia.  He thought he had found a hint on where his sister was, and apparently his actual birth mother.  No, it was just a trap, and he had died by Joker's hands, and his sister wasn’t even there!  Now he spent the day training with Talia and whoever she saw fit to handle him.  His thoughts wandered to what his sister was doing, to what her life was like, if she was part of a good home, if she was still on the streets, if she was even alive.  No, of course she was, she had to be.  He refused to believe that she was gone before he could see her again.
They are both 17 now, almost adults.  He would find her, but first he had to prove to Talia that he was ready.  He had to take out Bruce and his replacement.  D* that man, how dare he replace him like that.  He wasn’t just some tool, he was a person, he was important, he would show just how important he was.  This birthday was filled with rage that fueled him through the day, it was his motivation to find her one day and get his revenge.
~~~~~~~~ Jason watched silently as he attended a Justice League meeting with the rest of his family and Leaguers.  It was still rocky with his family, and he hadn’t been able to find a clue to where his sister was.  He still hadn’t told the others about her, though he was pretty sure B already knew about her from doing a background check or something.  He had never brought her up or done anything that made him think he actually knew about her though.  He had celebrated his 19th birthday, and so was she.  He was sure that she was still alive though.  He could never believe that she had passed.
A bright blue portal opened in the middle of the room just as expected.  Apparently Paris’s heroes were coming for a meeting or something today to discuss the Hero Ban there.  Five people in some form of animal themed suits walked through it.  A cat that looked like he could be Selina’s child, a bee, a snake, a dragon, and a ladybug.
“Hello, I am Coccinelle and we are here to discuss the ban that we put up during Hawkmoth’s reign.”
He looked up suddenly, his eyes transfixed on the girl in the Ladybug suit that spoke.  His heart began to pick up racing quickly.  Her voice was so achingly familiar.  Her English was slightly accented in French, but it also had a small Gotham tint to it.
If this was a trick he would find a way to make the universe pay for this.  He hoped, he prayed to whatever God out there that existed that this was truly a gift from the universe.  He hadn’t realized that he had walked towards her until he was at her level staring into her eyes.
“Red Hood, what are you doing?”
Batman asked in his gruff voice.  He gently took off his helmet and mask before taking both her hands in his at her gasp.
“What are you doing, you bonehead fool?!”
Robin yelled at him, his glare intensifying.
Tears welled up in those oh so familiar blue eyes.  He had to be sure though.
“Marinette, is that you?”
She gave him a small nod before pulling her into a bone crushing hug.  Sobs left the young girl and silent tears fell down his cheeks as he ran his fingers through her hair in a comforting manner.
“J-Jason...I-I’m-”
“Shhh, it’s ok Pixie-Pop.  I got ya.  I’m not leavin’ ya again.”
It was silent around them as everybody observed what was happening, though the Miraculous team was shocked they smiled in a gentle knowing way.  A birthday gift from the universe it seemed, he wouldn’t curse it again…..At least he wouldn’t until the next world ending event.  He had his sister back in his arms, and that’s all he could ever ask for.
HIS GRAVE
PROMPT- "Grave" | JASONETTE JULY 2021 Day 3 | SIBLING
MASTERPOST
Jay... You didn't even tell me...
Tears fell into Marinette's cheeks as she looked into the grave of her older brother. Her adoptive family brought her to gotham to visit her brother after so many years. Under her umbrella, the 12 year-old placed her freshly picked flowers on his tombstone.
Here Lies,
Jason Todd-Waryne
Her brother. Her best friend.
She only found out about his death after she saw it on the news. She was so heart-broken that she begged Sabine and Tom to come to Gotham. She couldn't even attend the funeral, she couldn't say goodbye to her brother one last time. Because she didn't know.
Heck, Marinette didn't even know he was adopted by a Wayne!
Marinette was picked up by child services after he didn't come back one night. She knew that he was stealing the tires of the batmobile. She was the lookout. Jason told her to stay put when he got caught by Batman. She listened. She watched as he was taken by Batman. She understood. He didn't want her to be involved. So she stayed put. He said he would come back, so she waited for him to come back.
But he never did.
Because she was taken by Child services after an hour of waiting.
And only 15 minutes after she was taken, Jason appeared; carrying freshly cooked meals. But she didn't know that. Marinette also doesn't know that he looked for her for days.
But he never found her; she was already sent to Paris.
And now, they were back together again; but one of them is six feet under.
Marinette kneeled into the ground as she sobbed. Her teardrops hitting the mud. She doesn't care about the mud on her dress; she already had worse. The weather seemed to match her mood. You could only hear the sound of the rain and her sobs.
"Why did you leave me Jay..." she whispered in his grave. "You said you would come back..."
Mary Todd continued to sob.
-
Mary spent half of the day on his grave. She refused to leave his side; Tom had to carry her home because she dosen't want to move from her spot.
Tom and Sabine felt their heart broke for their daughter. When they arrived in Paris, Marinette went straight to her room and locked the door. For days, she never went down to eat or go outside. Her parents excused her from her school; giving her time to grieve. They hated seeing their daughter like this. so they tried their best to help her get trough this stage.
Mary appreciated their effort, but it's not enough. Her brother is still gone.
Going trough memories of her and Jason. Memories she will cherish forever. Her brother. Because even if he didn't tell her everything, she still forgive him. She still loves him. She is still her brother. At the moment, Mary just sat on her bed and hugged her knees and continued to grieve.
Unknown of the future that awaits her.
Lila Rossi Bashing
Tumblr media
Art Club Chat Room - The Art Club has a chatroom and some things get revealed about a certain Italian.
The Actress - There was a new student in class. One Isabelle Verity. A girl with black hair in pigtails, blue eyes, a habit of wearing red, and supposedly Lila’s long-time bestie. Given Lila’s previous lies, the class immediately latched onto the idea that Isabelle was Ladybug. And as Isabelle only gave them a cheeky ‘Ladybug has her secret identity to uphold’, they went full force. Adrien knew that Isabelle wasn’t really Ladybug. While he could be an idiot sometimes, he knew two things. The first, is that Lila is a liar, and Ladybug wasn’t her ‘bestie’. The second, is that Ladybug would never tell anyone her secret identity.
A Queendom Crumbles -  Lila claims to be great friends with Jagged Stone, so she finds it justifiable to claim that she created his iconic Eiffel Tower glasses and designed his album cover. Since her classmates love Jagged Stone, it would only increase her own popularity, right?
Exposed -  In France it is illegal to video record or photograph someone without their consent, a fact that Marinette had forgotten about until she is expelled a second time from school. Too bad Lila hadn't done her reading on that particular law.
It's Your Birthday - Adrien knows she's been tormented by the whole class - all thanks to a liar. Wouldn't you know, it's Marinette's birthday, and he has the perfect present.The downfall of Lila.After all, Princesses deserve to spoilt.
Baked Jagged -  Jagged tries to bake cookies, and ends up exposing Lila to the class.
Better Late than Never - Post Ladybug. Even after Lila's lies get exposed, no one apologizes to Marinette. It hurts that no one tries to make things right. Lila keeps bullying her, Adrien tries to ignore it all and no one else seems to notice at all.And then, unexpectedly, Chloé shows up at Marinette's door.
No More Dead Robins (or little Ladybugs) - Mature / Complete -  Fresh out of the Lazarus Pit, Jason had one plan: Take up Talia on her inter-continental training montage until he was strong enough to take out Batman. When his training takes him to France however, Jason learns about the newest supervillian on the streets. Correction: The newest supervillain and superheroes. Seeing an untrained tiny thing flying around the city in red and black was a bit more triggering than he had expected. One dead Robin was more than enough for Jason and he is definately not going to let this little bundle of sunshine and rainbows end the same way he did.
Jason Dupain-Cheng - Teen / Complete - Jason had two options that night: steal the hubcaps off the Batmobile or break into an under protected bakery.  His stomach made the decision for him. It was probably the best decision Jason had ever made.
Unwanted, Unreliable, Unstoppable - Teen / Incomplete - They were tired. Tired of having to save an ungrateful city from an obsessed maniac and of being ignored by the so called 'Heroes' of the world. But what if someone, some people, reach out to them with an offer to help?
Maribat 2k20 - Bio!dad Bruce - Teen / Complete -  I've never answered prompts or taken part in something like this before, but I thought I would give it a try (even if I'm somewhat twisting the prompts, sorry if that's not allowed?). Instead of a series on one shots I'm working this as a 7 chapter story, each with one day's prompt.
Quarantine - Teen / Complete -  After years of Hawkmoth's terrorism, the Justice League intervened in Paris to mitigate the damage of Hawkmoth's powerful akumas. A Quarantine was put into place, halting all travel at the border without any warning. Ignoring input from Paris's own heroes, Ladybug and Chat Noir, the Justice League took over Paris, vowing to end the Quarantine only after Hawkmoth's defeat. Now, as life under the Paris Quarantine grows darker, Marinette finds herself relying more and more on the comfort of her friend (and crush) Damian Wayne, who she video chats with nearly every night.With no end to the Quarantine in sight, Marinette knows she has to take matters into her own hands. Fear and hopelessness have taken hold of her city. Either Marinette finds a way to end the Quarantine, or there may not be a city left to save once the Justice League defeats Hawkmoth.
Gotham's (Fashion) Disasters - General / Incomplete -  Marinette and her parents are dragged along to the Rock wedding of the year by none other than the groom himself Jagged Stone. To complicate matters the wedding is in Gotham city America. By the grace of her Ladybug luck Marinette has everything prepared for the trip. But her skills are needed in Gotham, and she might find something while she's there.
Kids Again Ch 2
Ch 2: He likes to keep his burner on
First Next>
Marinette would always remember the first time she looked through her romantic Soulmate’s eyes. She was five years old when she started crying in the middle of the day in maternelle. Nino ran to get the teacher while she gasped, trying to form her feelings into words. Her parents came to pick her up and her maman held her while she cried. When she was able to tell them what she saw, they held her close.
Her papa told her that her Soulmate must have been even more scared than she was, but that she could help look over him.
Her maman said that she wasn’t responsible to be the one to save him, that the people who were responsible for this had a duty to take care of him. She also said she didn’t have to sacrifice her own life for his.
Her maman told her that if she showed him kindness and love, the universe would make sure that they could meet one day. Marinette kept that in her heart every day. She wanted to show her soulmate that the world could be a brighter place than the dark place he lived in. She lived every happy memory to its fullest, and every night she sent a prayer into the sky; asking her guardian spirits to watch over her soulmate.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
When Marinette was nine, she woke up in the middle of the night in a panic. She saw through her soulmate’s eyes as he got stabbed, but even after that stopped, even as he passed out from the pain, she still felt emotions coming from her soulbond. She felt like she was watching someone die right in front of her. She was frozen in terror, knowing she could do nothing to change it. She didn’t go back to sleep that night, instead, she grabbed her sewing kit and started to take the pink applique flowers off her only black dress. She then went to work on making a veil. She also found the blue dress that she had worn to her great-grandfather’s funeral. She wasn’t sure what you were supposed to wear to a funeral for your soulmate’s family, but she wanted to be ready to get dressed in the morning.
When her mother came to wake her up in the morning she shifted her gaze up to her from the floor. She had sat there to write in her journal. She opened her mouth and asked her mom the important question she needed an answer to, “Maman, can you have more than one soulmate?”
______________________________
Sabine looked around her daughter’s room when she saw the dresses Marinette was sitting next to, “It does happen. What did you see Bǎobèi?” ((mandarin: baby))
Marinette shook her head, “I didn’t see it, mama. I just felt like I was watching someone really important to me die. I can still feel the link though, so it couldn’t have been my soulmate. But I didn’t see it, I just felt it... Could I have a platonic soulmate too?”
Sabine scooped her daughter up into her arms, “You could. I think it’s very possible you do.” Marinette started crying, “Shhh, it’s okay sweetheart.” She adjusted her grip on Marinette so she could move to sit them both onto her fainting couch. “Do you want to talk about it?”
She sniffled nodding, “what do you wear to mourn someone you aren’t related to?”
“In China, you would wear a dark color to the funeral of the death of a loved one who you aren’t related to. But not black. You only wear black for your parent’s or husband’s funeral. In France, you can wear black if you want to, but any dark color is okay. If you follow your gut feeling where does your platonic soulmate live?”
Marinette furrowed her brow, “I don’t know māma, I can’t see them.”
Sabine smoothed Marinette’s hair down, “Did your heart say somewhere when I asked you?”
Marinette nodded, “America. I thought about America… but I also thought about Paris…”
She looked at her daughter in contemplation, “Meiyun, do you remember how I taught you to meditate?” Marinette nodded, “I want you to meditate with me, but I want you to focus on your soul link. Can you do that for me?”
Marinette nodded. She sat up and got into a relaxed position. Taking in a deep breath she closed her eyes. After a few moments, Sabine started talking to her, “When you breathe in I want you to gather up all your emotions, and then, as you breathe out, let them flow to the background of your mind.”
Marinette smiled, “Like music?”
She smiled at her daughter, “Exactly like music. Let your feelings be the beat of the song, and look for the melodies of your soulmates.” She watched Marinette breathe and then start to hum.
Sabine’s older sister had been a part of a multibond and she knew it ran in the family, but she wasn’t sure how she would be able to help her daughter. Her soulmate died when she was a girl, they were a platonic bond and she hadn’t even met them. Tom’s soulmate bond was also platonic. He had met him once and they were pen-pals, but their friendship had never gotten that close. When Marinette was born she had a spark in her eyes that Sabine knew was pointing towards a difficult journey for her daughter. When she started to see through her Soulmate’s eyes Sabine knew she was right. She looked at her little girl, so young and yet so strong. Her sister had the same strength when she was young, Sabine just hoped that her daughter wouldn’t follow the same path. When Marinette opened her eyes Sabine waited for her to talk, her daughter was young, but, when it was something important, she always tried to figure out what she was going to say before speaking.
“There are three other melodies. So if I include my own that makes four. My song and Jay's are really close, but the other two are a little lower? They are as close to each other as ours are though.”
Sabine smiled at her, “It sounds like you have two platonic soulmates, and that they are romantic soulmates. Multibonds are rarer in the world, but they happen more often than most people think. My sister had a multibond too, she had four soulmates total. That just means that you have a lot more love to give, and a lot more love to receive.”
Marinette nodded at her, “So I could find one of my Soulmates here in Paris?”
Sabine scooped her daughter up in her arms, “You might sweetie, but unless all four of you are together you might never know.”
Marinette tilted her head in confusion, “but why?”
Sabine smiled and booped Marinette on the nose, “soulmates have a spark when they meet each other. It’s your soul saying ‘you did it! You found my other parts!’ but that can’t happen until all the pieces of your soul are together.”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Eventually, Marinette learned how to pick out each of the distinct ‘voices’ of her soulmates. She knew when her platonic soulmates were hurting.
Each year her soulmate from America would mourn the same loss, her soulmate from Paris would have days where they would be filled with so much sadness and loneliness, and her Soulmate would have days where he couldn’t eat or would be running for his very life.
When her Paris bond started having the same hunger pains she got worried. She was used to the pains coming from Jason, knew exactly what they felt like and how long you went without proper nutrition before the pain kicked in.
She started reaching out to those around her, making sure that everyone she interacted with knew she was a person they could turn to.
She made herself known as someone who cared deeply about her friends.
When Chloé started being mean to her she spoke only kindness.
When Kim and Alix got into a fight she was there to hear both sides and help them see the other’s point of view.
When Nino got overwhelmed she sat quietly by his side so he knew he wasn’t alone.
She did everything she could for her friends because she was fighting the feeling that she could do nothing for her soulmates.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
She was 11 when she learned all about the Gotham vigilantes.
She had some memories of Jason on the streets where he hid from Batman and had heard him talk about him, but she had never seen him.
Until she checked in Jason when he was caught in the middle of taking the tires off the batmobile. She hadn’t meant to look through his eyes, she was just very tired. When she closed her eyes for a little too long the soulbond drew her to him. She giggled when he was spooked in the middle of taking off tire number 4. She was worried when she felt his burst of fear when the vigilante placed him in the back of the batmobile. She watched him scared when he was taken to the bat-cave, heard him plead not to be taken to the cops. He sobbed telling the vigilante that he would rather die than go to the foster care system.
“Marinette, earth to Marinette.” Alix was waving their hand in front of her face, “you want to come back to Paris?”
“Huh? Oh!” Marinette jumped back. She looked around at her trio of friends.
“Dudette, what happened?” Nino reached out to hug her, then added in a soft voice, “you were laughing and then got this look of panic on your face.”
Kim was sitting behind the two of them, with Marinette by the wall she could see that the three of them had formed a barrier of sorts. She could see him watching to make sure that no one tried to eavesdrop on their conversation.
“It was really funny, he tried to steal the tires off the batmobile.”
Kim started to laugh at that, “no wonder you looked panicked. Did he get caught by the bat?”
Marinette bit her lip trying not to cry, nodding at Kim, “He did. He was so scared.”
That shut him up real quick, “Mari, look at me.” Kim reached out a hand, “Jason is going to be okay. You know he will, he’s been in tougher spots before.”
Alix scooched closer to her to lay against her shoulder, “not like he hasn’t gotten out of worse scrapes before. Didn’t you say he took down two guys with guns like last week?”
Marinette giggled and rubbed her eyes, “yeah, but they aren’t batman.”
Nino had been looking up any information about the vigilante he could find, “Netté, it says here that he has a strict no-killing policy and a soft spot for kids. Jason could beat the shit out of him and he still wouldn’t hurt him.”
That got a loud laugh from them.
“M. Lahiffe, do you have something you want to share with the class?”
They all snapped to attention, “No Ma’am.”
Their teacher nodded, “Then might I request that you all return to silent study time.”
_____________________________________
After school, they all ran to the bakery. It was a long-standing tradition to lay around Marinette’s living room and eat snacks while they did homework. Alix was throwing a paper ball into the air while Kim checked over their math assignment.
“I don’t know why you have me check, it’s not like I’m the best at math.”
“You are in this group. Nino is our french lit. guy. Mari can check over English assignments. I have History, you have maths. And then we struggle with science and geography as a group.”
“Hey! I’m good at geography!”
Alix threw their paper ball at him, “then you should have volunteered to check my geography assignment.”
Marinette interrupted the start of an argument that would become a bet that would lead to her cleaning up the mess, again. “Alix, you have to stop using so much slang in your English assignments.”
“Why? You do, I’ve seen your papers.”
“I use common slang, you’re using the slang that I’ve picked up from Jay. He uses a lot more regional slang. And you know our teacher has given you marks off for it in the past.”
“Not my fault that he didn’t understand my essay.”
Marinette rolled her eyes, “haven’t you ever heard of writing to your audience?”
Kim laughed at her, “Mari, you sound just like Nino!”
She stuck her tongue out at him, “at least I’m not the one teasing my foreign language tutor before she checks over my work.”
“You wouldn’t!” he turned on the full puppy eyes, “please Mari, you know I would fail without you.”
“Yeah, I know. Hand it over I finished Alix’s.”
They sat there for a while, each finishing their assignments and then checking over the other’s work. Quiet afternoons spent above the warm bakery always lulled them into a peaceful state. The soft sounds of writing and the speaker in the kitchen playing one of Nino’s new study playlists. Marinette always loved these moments when she felt so loved; surrounded by her best friends, able to hear drifts of the conversations on the street below. Moments like these were feelings she cherished, images that she engraved into her mind. Opening her small pink journal she started writing to Jason. She wanted to tell him everything about her life, so until she could see him in person she wrote to him.
Nino was the first one to break the gentle silence, “Netté, why do you think he was so scared?”
Alix and Kim both looked up from where they were doing the maths homework. With all their gazes on her she knew she had to say something, “he doesn’t want to go into the foster care system.” She took a deep breath and started to doodle on the corner of her page, “he, well he knows some kids who have been in the system. It’s really corrupt in Gotham. A lot… a lot of foster care parents are bad people. They abuse their wards and get the money from the system. Older kids get it worse, a-an-and he’s 13 now. S-s-so he would ha-ve a harder time getting a good family.”
She had started crying and was now quietly sobbing. Kim moved closer and picked her up to hold in his lap. Nino and Alix moved closer to join the group hug.
After she had calmed down enough to talk Alix asked her, “Mar, why don’t you try to check in on him?”
She sighed, whipping her tears away, “I tried earlier during lunch, I think he was asleep though.” She bit her lip, “I could try again maybe, but he seems calm now. What if I just worry him more?”
“It’s up to you Netté. We are here to support you, not tell you what you should do about your bond.”
She nodded, “I think I’ll wait then.”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Over the next two years, she learned a lot more about Gotham’s heroes vigilantes. Jason was the new Robin. His new brother was the first Robin, now he had a new alias Nightwing. Bruce Wayne is Batman was a huge secret that was dropped on her. One that her three closest friends knew too. They had been sworn to secrecy, but she couldn’t not tell them.
They were her small family, and if she wasn’t going to tell her parents then she was going to tell them. Sure, his identity needed to be protected. But what harm could four people from halfway across the world do? She started collecting news clippings of Robin. Each time he helped someone and they caught him on camera. The kids around the blocks he patrolled being in awe of the kid in the bright colors who would help anyone who needed it. She got to see him splitting off from patrol to take food to a building he knew had people living in it.
Then came the other good moments. His butler, who was more grandfather than employee, taught him how to cook. His new father, the adoption papers went through really fast, enrolled him in school. Bruce saw how much Jason liked to read and put a couple large bookcases in his room. Then bought him different books that he thought might interest him. He was trying, but things were still awkward sometimes. His brother, Richard but people called him Dick, was in the circus before becoming a Wayne. He taught Jason to use his natural dexterity to flip around attackers, telling him that a moving target was harder to hit. The robin colors made you easy to see, so you had to be fast and think on your feet. If you never stopped moving then they couldn't hit you.
Marinette asked her parents if she could continue her gymnastics classes. They were only a little surprised. She had taken a break when her soulbond had gotten to be too much, but knowing that he was safe meant she could focus on herself again.
That started with being fast and nimble and getting herself ready for when she ran the streets with him. She spent hours redesigning the Robin suit and making herself a hero persona. She had decided on Nightingale as a name and designed her suit in black and orange. She made her design a partner to her redesign of Jason’s Robin suit. She knew they were going to be partners, so they needed to match.
She just wished that she could be there with him now. Running the rooftops by his side, helping him, making sure he makes it home.
no point wishing on stars
aka the jasonette aladdin au literally no one asked for
This is a great big amalgamation of semi-canon miraculous, batman and a heavy dose of bastardized Aladdin but here we go-
The story goes like this:
Jason is our beloved street rat turned prince Boy Wonder and billionaire’s son (not that he’s gotten that far yet).
Marinette is Ladybug, is the Guardian, is our modern-day Jasmine. She’s next in line after Fu to lead the Order, which, I suppose, is like High Royalty for superheroes/magic users.
But before she can take her rightful place, she needs a partner by her side. It’s so stupid rule that says she, as a Ladybug, needs a Black Cat by her side in order to be properly balanced.
The only problem is, she doesn’t want one. Or, well. More accurately, it’s that she doesn’t like the ones offered to her, and she doesn’t quite like the idea of being tied to someone she barely knows, especially not at fourteen.
There have been many Black Cat candidates to cross her path but there has been only one she did not immediately veto. Adrien Agreste may be a Black Cat, but he cannot be hers. He will never be anything more than her dearest brother, and that is not what Creation needs.
Creation and Destruction—life and death—have a certain type of relationship. They are lovers, mated and married in every meaning of the word.
And, for as much as she loves and adores Adrien as her brother in her soul, they will never be like that. She will never want him the way she must should he take up Destruction.
So yeah. Marinette has a problem. And yeah, she has some time to figure it out, but the Order is looking to have her figure it out sooner rather than later. Adrien is a good place holder for now, but if Marinette doesn’t choose a Black Cat by the time she’s twenty-one, Adrien will either have to do, or she forfeits her crown and the Ladybug miraculous (which she would never do, she loves her people and Tikki too much to ever do that).
(wait? Does this mean I made Adrien the human equivalent of Raja?… yes. Yes it does.)
And, to spice this up just a bit more, let’s say Hawkmoth is Jafar, yeah? This little shit is really trying to push his son to be the next Black Cat because he wants power what’s best for his son. So he be out here sabotaging potential Black Cats because he’s an asshole his son is the best candidate at the moment. He could give less than two shits about if Mari and Adrien actually like each other that way, he will shove his son at her until she has no choice but to choose him.
Anyway, so Mari leaves the temple one day. Which is fine, she’s not trapped there or anything, she can come and go as she pleases! (she may have to normally take someone with her and is currently ignoring that rule perhaps, but that’s besides the point!)
So she’s at a market in Gotham, strolling down the street, having a good time enjoying being around normal people, when she notices a boy getting into some trouble.
(I’ll give you three guesses as to who it is and the first two don’t count.)
Jason was stealing from market vendors because the hubbub of the street is distracting and nicking a few scraps here and there is practically child’s play. Only, he miscalculates.
One vendor was paying more attention than he thought.
Mari’s across the street and sees the whole thing. Sees the vendor grab Jason’s hand in a bruising grip and snarl in his face.
She’s in between the pair before she even realizes it, mouth already opening around some made-up story about ill-advised dares and how ‘it won’t happen again, sir’ and ‘here, I’ll pay for that right now, no harm done!’
Jason stares at her utterly baffled and, thankfully, silent until after she’d already grabbed his hand and pulled him away.
Only, she pulls him away down the wrong alley. (Look. Mari’s a real sweet-talker and knows how to smooth ruffled feathers, but she is hardly street smart.)
Jason swears, and it’s the first words she’s heard him speak, and then it’s him tugging her along. Up a fire escape and over the rooftops because Jason likes to think he’s tough, but there’s no way he’s picking a fight with five guys bigger than him and wearing masks.
He likes to keep his heart beating more than he wants to keep his pride unharmed thank you very much.
They end up on a rooftop, panting and like, seven blocks away. Marinette is now very lost and with a strange boy who she doesn’t know. He seems… nice, and she’s a good judge of character, but that doesn’t mean much when they’re still very much strangers.
But then the two just look at each other and suddenly they’re both laughing.
And that, my friends, is the start of a beautiful friendship.
***
During those first few months, she and Jason just seem to click.
Mari starts leaving the temple more and more to meet up with Jason, and on more than one occasion dragging behind her a picnic basket bigger than her. (it’s stupid to let one of her friends starve just because he’s too prideful to take her food. So she plans lots of picnics for them both, and pointedly ignores the way he eats and hoards most of the food she brings.)
He is her friend—though she would be lying if she said she didn’t like him a bit more than what one would consider friendly.
And Jason, who is funny and kind and made sharp by the life he’s been forced into, likes her right back. She is one of the few great parts of his life, a bright spot in the darkness he has called his world for so long, and there are few things he wouldn’t do for her.
It’s… scary—just a bit—how important she is to him.
He tries not to think about it too much.
And it doesn't really matter anyway, because she is good and bright and amazing and he is… there’s nothing he can give her in return. Nothing good, anyway.
She deserves someone better. Someone who could buy her things as pretty as her and take her nice places.
Someone who isn’t a street rat.
And then he learns she’s Ladybug, right up there with Wonder Woman and Robin and all the other amazing people set on saving the world, and he feels he got that much farther from her. How can he ever compare?
Jason doesn’t wish, because wishing is childish and he learned too young that shooting stars don’t exist and he’s come to terms with the fact that this is his life years ago, all right? He doesn't need the burden of hope to weigh him down now.
(but perhaps, deep down, tucked away in the corner of his heart, there might be a thought. Small and scared and aching, he might think, ‘if only I could be there with her, if only i could fly with her, maybe then I’d be enough’)
Six months after he meets Marinette, Jason comes across the Batmobile.
His first thought is, this can’t be real.
His second is, I could buy Mari a real birthday gift with this.
His third thought is less of a thought because he’s already got two tires off by that point and then suddenly Batman is there and Jason is swinging his tire iron.
This then leads—somehow—to him winding up at Wayne Manor with Bruce Wayne and then he learns about Batman and Robin and he gets to be Robin and-
(and what else is a Robin meant to do but fly?)
It’s too good to be true. Wishes don’t come true and good things don’t happen to him unless their name be Marinette but… but Jason’s here and it’s not a dream. He’s no prince but, well… he thinks this might just be as close as you can get.
And, okay. He really does try with the whole secrecy thing, because he can understand why that’s important but, I mean… it’s Marinette, who is Ladybug. There really was never any chance of Jason keeping that particular secret, Batman or no Batman.
And about,,, two years pass like this ig. Mari is almost seventeen now, and Jason turned seventeen recently and the pair are getting closer and closer every day. They’re toeing the line of ‘more than friends’ but neither have really taken that next step.
The pressure is on Mari from the Order because she’s getting older and as much as she likes Jason, knows him but he isn’t a good candidate for Destruction and Mari must think of her people first.
Jason doesn’t get to be hers to keep and that aches but what else is she meant to do? She cannot—does not—want to change him in any way. So they stay, in their strange little limbo, with neither making a move.
And then, the unthinkable happens.
Hawkmoth hears of the boy finally, and is, obviously, furious.
He doesn't care if this boy can be a Cat or not, he’s going to ruin all his plans. So, there’s only one solution. He needs to get rid of him.
(i’ll give you three guesses as to how and the first two don’t count!)
Robin—Jason—dies, and Marinette feels when he does. She doesn’t know why or what happened, but the moment he leaves the world her blood turns cold and she feels sick.
Jason hasn’t even looked at the ring and already Marinette could feel the thread that had begun to tie them together. When she hears of his death—when she learns that he’s gone—Marinette shatters.
She shatters and cries and the world tips just a little, with the force of her sorrow, with the agony of her screams.
(justice is blind, yes, but is she deaf? Can she deny the sobbing of such a being as Creation herself? Can she stand, unfeeling, before the agony she has wrought?)
Marinette does not bring Jason back to life… but she has done something close. Has opened the possibility. Is, perhaps, the reason that six months later he screams and claws and drags himself from his own grave.
He is wrong wrong wrong, but he is also alive.
The league finds him, as they must. And Talia throws him into the pits, as she must. And Jason is reborn, screaming and angry and violent, as he must.
Marinette had known, Before, that Jason would not be a good match for the ring. He was tough and wild and willing to get his hands dirty if that’s what it took, but that was not what his core was. He was familiar with the rust and decay of back alley streets, but that wasn’t where he belonged. He would throw a punch but he didn’t relish the blood on his knuckles after a fight.
Jason was surrounded by destruction, but that’s not what he was.
Now… now the destruction he spent so long dancing with has slipped through the cracks in his mind left behind by the explosion. It ripped through his skin and slithered through into his veins until it settled in his heart like an overly smug cat.
Death and Destruction are inside him, woven in his ribcage and fusing with his blood, pumping pumping pumping its deadly rhythm and Jason is helpless to deny it’s tune.
Jason is a being of Destruction through circumstance rather than design, but make no mistake, that does not make him less.
(in fact, it may even make him more. To be remade from one’s own destruction is a powerful thing, and to be remade into Destruction? Well. There are few things more… miraculous.)
And we all know the next part of the story right?
Marinette mourns and grows and lives.
Jason rages and learns and plans. He’s come far from that street rat of a boy, and farther still from Marinette's petite oiseau.
But, two years after he comes back, when he ventures back to Gotham for revenge, Marinette takes one look at this angry, violent man calling himself Red Hood and she knows. He’s too familiar, even as he stands before her, more changed than she ever thought possible.
She meets the Red Hood when he comes for the new Robin, sweet little Tim who Marinette had grown to like despite herself. (He is not Jason, and never will be, but the boy was too shy and clever and earnest for her to have remained cold to him just because he wore the same colors once worn by the man she loved.)
She loves Tim in the same way she loves Adrien, simply and wholly and uncomplicated.
And then she is there when Jason comes for him.
Their reunion is not the stuff of fairy tales. It is not the beginning of happily ever after or true love.
Their reunion is a punch in the gut because it doesn't matter that he’s alive—except it does, because Mari has never known she could be so happy and so shattered at the same time—she is farther from him than she’d ever imagined she could be.
She reaches out for him, voice cracking around his name—because who else could this familiar stranger be?—and something in her shatters all over again when he flinches back from her touch.
“No,” he says, and it is a million things at once. He sends one last glare to Tim, who is still behind her, and then he’s gone.
***
Jason tries to avoid her.
Marinette allows this for a whole month before the whispers in the streets and the stories Tim comes back to her with, become too much.
She knows he is angry and out for revenge and building an empire out of the criminals that infest their city, but she doesn’t care. He was gone for two whole years and Marinette is tired of not seeing him-hearing him-touching him.
She has missed him like an ache in her chest and she doesn't care if he hates her or is furious with her, she just wants to see him. She needs to reassure herself that he’s alive, that he’s real.
And, it seems, the universe is on her side in this. In her chest, nestled there in the space next to her heart, there is what she can only describe as a compass, pointing to wherever Jason is like he’s her own personal north star.
The first few times, she’s yelled at or ran off. Or he runs off. Either way, for a while, the only moments she’s close to him are short and aching.
But she doesn’t let him run for long, and she doesn’t let him scare her off as she knows he’s trying to do.
Marinette had always been the more stubborn of the two.
Eventually, like a feral cat learning safety (like a hurt, scared animal relearning love), Jason lets her get close. He lets her in, lets her get close again.
The first time she sees him, without helmet or mask, she flings herself at him. Arms around his neck and legs wrapped around his waist, clutching him like her life depends on it. He takes her weight automatically, hand beneath her thighs while the other wraps around her back just as tightly. (he longs for touch, she has relearned, but he is also so frightened of it. She will have to be brave for them both)
The second time she sees his face bare once more, he is still thrumming with energy from a fight, is still high on the feeling of broken bones and blood on his knuckles. The force in his chest, the clawing and raging thing settled just off-center of the very core of him, pulls him toward her and Marinette meets him halfway, her own bright, ruthless force like a magnet in her chest.
They meet in a clash of hands on skin and lips anywhere they’ll land.
It is the first time they fall into bed together.
It will not be the last.
Now, you may be thinking, ‘Lady! This isn’t very Aladdin at all!’ and to that I tell you: I fucking warned you. What part of bastardized-Aladdin didn’t you get?
Also, shh. This is my favorite part!
So Mari is in her own personal little honeymoon stage, right? She practically could not be happier because Jason is alive and he’s hers and, even if he’s more violent and a crime boss, he’s stopped attacking his family at least. Which is good, because Mari really didn’t like the sad look Tim wore every time he brought up Jason.
And, oh yeah. Through a combination of her own detective work and Tikki, little Mari realizes that Jason is her Black Cat. Is the only person her Black Cat could be, not because of destiny—though that had helped—but because of coincidence and the bond the pair forged themselves.
So Mari is, obviously, on cloud nine at the moment and she tells Adrien and Fu who are ecstatic for her, and announcements are going to be made the second Mari tells Jason and what could possibly go wrong?
Well, a lot of things really but the first thing is that, basically, Mari is asking Jason to marry her. Just a bit. And while they both know, in that nebulous way they always have, that they love each other, neither of them have ever actually said it.
And also, they aren’t really dating right now either. Mari’s been too busy trying to just get near Jason again that she hasn’t much been paying attention to normal relationship things like dates or labels.
So when she brings it up Jason is… well, caught off guard is likely an understatement. Which then makes Mari realize what exactly she’s just done and- shit. She’s ruined everything and Jason is going to run away again and the compass in her chest is just going to be a reminder of what she can’t have and-
Jason, who only moments before was terrified and in danger of bolting—because this is a lot and magic-marrying Mari comes with responsibilities and rules and a thousand strings he doesn't know what to do with—now stops and stares at her, babbling and so obviously panicked and something in him abruptly settles.
She starts pacing and he grabs her hand when she passes by close enough, reeling her into his body. She comes easily even in her frazzled state and the vicious clawing thing in his chest sighs contentedly.
“Why?” he asks, and it is a million things at once. Why him, why now, why, why, why?
There are a million ways she could answer, but the easiest? The most important answer is simply this: “Because I love you.”
His breath shudders in his chest at her words and her hands raise to settle on his cheek and the back of his neck, a protection of one of the most vulnerable parts of him, and he leans into her touch like a man starved.
Gods, Jason has loved her for years.
He loved her Before and he loved her in the pits, when all he had was the hate they kept stuffing in his chest, and he loves her now. She is his sun and he will spin around her for the rest of his life. But when it all comes down to it, one simple fact doesn’t change:
“I don’t deserve your love.”
Her hands press harder into his skin, like she can force him to understand through touch alone. “If everyone only got the love they deserved no one would be truly loved,” she counters.
“You would,” he says, quick and quiet and honest. Her breath hitches and he watches her eyes go wide. The hands he has on her hips tighten at the emotions he finds there.
“Oh,” she whispers, already pulling him down to meet her. “Oh you stupid, beautiful man.”
And then they’re kissing and- and it is not the first time they’ve done this, but there is something very different about this one.
They’re kissing, and this time, it feels very much like coming home.
***
And, perhaps, that is not the end.
Because there is still one wish left.
Because Jafar-Hawkmoth is still there, and he’s still murderous, and there a very real chance he’s going to ruin the wedding somehow.
Because there is never truly an end to a story, it just simply stops being told.
But none of that really matters. Our princess and her dearest street rat are together at last, and together they’ll get through whatever happens after the story stops being told.
They’ve always had a thing for impossible odds after all.
