All my winter/yule/Christmas Mystrades in one place. I've done more of these than I thought.

The most recent is Send Three and Fourpence, We're Going to a Dance, wherein Mycroft has no idea how to court someone he admires, while trying to prove nobody else is good enough for his Gregory. Written for the Mark Gatiss Birthday auction, won by @johannadc to whom thanks are due for that wonderful prompt.

Winter's Tale is bitter sweet for me. It was written for my soulmate and bff who wrote under the pseud Krekta on AO3. I lost her nearly seven years ago and she never lived to see how the story ended. I posted the final chapter the day after she died, as a tribute.

Miracle on Islington High Street includes a bit of magical realism, with a wish spell, a Holmes family Christmas and good deeds being done.

Lord of Misrule is my Medieval fantasy AU, with Greg as the local blacksmith, and Mycroft as the recently bereaved and thus newly elevated Lord of the Manor. The two find solace in each other at Yuletide.

There are two series set in wintertime.

Winterlight Mystrade is set in Scotland, with the first part, Winterlight, being a bit of a far fetched romance, but it does have Greg in a kilt, in the snow. There's only one bed, and the boys are snowed in. There are two stories in the series, the second being Winter's Awakening. Be warned, sex in the snow means they have an explicit rating, as if Greg in a kilt didn't warrant that already.

Evening the Odds is set in York, at Christmas and New Year. Evening Out the Odds was written for the 2017 Mystrade Advent Calendar. Mycroft retreats to a quiet place away from London, where his face is unlikely to be known, in an effort to find peace, post Sherinford. Greg, worried about him, attempts to follow. Odds On Favourite is the sequel.

On a different note, Fairytale of New York is not a Mystrade, but its still a winter one. It's a Torchwood story, Jack and Angelo's Christmas, slightly AU, but close to canon.

Friday Fic Update: 1.10.2020

I almost didn’t post this, but it’s how I keep track of my fic work from week to week, so even though it’s late, here it is.

I’m really enjoying writing my Soulmates AU for #MystradeSoulmatesWeek (Feb 11 - 17). I outlined it first, so it’s been coming along pretty easily. I think it will be split into three chapters. There’s a bit of world building that I sort of like and don’t like all at once - which is the point, really, because it’s not a utopia. 

I finished editing the Auction fic! I really hope the receiver likes it - we have a vulnerable Mycroft with an angsty past, and a caretaking Greg. Should be able to post it soon!

Signature Bake is now up on AO3

The lovely @johannadc won my entry for the Mark Gatiss Birthday Auction, and here is the first chapter with the prompt she gave me. This is a Sherlock cross over with Great British Bake Off, and I hope it works. It’s a bit improbable, but I’ve done my best. Mycroft and Greg are both contestants in the Bake Off, but neither can recall where they’ve seen each other before. Sherlock has pretty much kept them apart and as a result if they’ve seen each other once they’ve done well. Mycroft is under cover, persuing someone who has stolen sensitve plans from the ministry of defence, and it just so happens to be one of the contestants. Mycroft has to find out who, before the plans are handed over, all this while battling his attraction to the silver foxes in the marquee, one of whom just might be the man he’s pursuing.

WIP Wednesday

Chipping away slowly at two main WIPs at the moment. Though I did take a few minutes this morning to write a scene for a future fic, Flayed, a Hannibal/Sherlock crossover. I’ve been reading a lot of Nietzsche lately, and certain quotes and ideas swirl around in my head and have gone into this fic that I probably won’t even start writing until NaNoWriMo, if then. Argh, how the brain loves to hop around. But, back to my main focus this week:

My Mystrade Soulmates AU, Written in Skin, is coming along nicely. I’ve worked in some mythology (surprise, surprise) that really helps to enhance the world the characters inhabit, I think. It’s from Mycroft’s POV (another surprise, I’m sure), and he struggles with the whole concept of soulmates as the story progresses. I’m trying to keep the narrative tight, but Mycroft just went off on a tangent today, with poor Greg trying to keep up. X-D

I’m also editing my fic for the Mark Gatiss Charity Birthday Auction. I rewrote a section of it last night, and I feel much better about it now. I think I shall have it to betas by the weekend. Hoping to post it next week for my first posted fic of 2020! It includes whump, a rescue, vulnerable Mycroft, and service!top Greg. 

AND THEN, and then, my friends, I shall begin editing Taking Flight. I’m just keeping my fingers crossed that editing goes well, because I am super excited to share this one. Greg is a hot and sexy falconer who is lonely and unsettled in his life. He has a great job, well meaning friends, and a teenage daughter he can be proud of, but his dating life seems at an end. His last relationship was a disaster, and has left Greg afraid to try again. Mycroft is the enigmatic stranger from another country who snags Greg’s interest, and then his heart. When Mycroft’s sabbatical from work comes to an end, will it also mean an end to them?

Moth, I miss the Sheltering Tree :( are you gonna update this week?

It’s been a long nine days, has it? ;) The next section of Sheltering Tree is more dramatic than previous chapters. There’s going to be some tension, and I’d rather hold you guys here for a little longer until I’ve got this whole section written. That way, I can update frequently and not leave you waiting.

Now I’ve finished my Mark Gatiss birthday auction fic, I’ve freed up some time. It means I can focus on tying up this section. ❤️ I hope that’s reassuring, secret person. More soon, I promise.
