April 1, 20XX [7:00 am] [In your apartment]
"We start the month with a new scandal!" The gossip announcer states.
"A new month but the same old stories with these drama channels." You roll your eyes as you slip your shoes on. You just couldn't stand drama channels that tried to exploit the lives of perfectly normal people.
You make your way down the familiar streets that lead you to the preschool that you work at.
[7:30 am]
"You're earlier than usual." Your coworker points out as she wipes down the kid's tables.
"New year means new healthy habits." You smile as you put your bag down behind the receptionist's desk. The truth was that you didn't have any reason to stay home. "Are we going to get any new students?"
"Just one. All I know is that he's a quirkless boy. Adelaide should know more." Your coworker says with a sad shake of her head.
"Hey Y/n." Your other coworker greets you with a smile as she comes out of the bathroom with cleaning supplies in tow.
"Hey Adelaide." You turn the television on and change the channel to a news station. "Any details on the new kid?"
"I was waiting for somebody to ask!" Adelaide exclaims as she puts the cleaning supplies down haphazardly. "Not only is he quirkless but he's also the son of a top hero! No I don't know what hero but still!"
You pick up the cleaning supplies as you listen to her go on about other drama in celebrity lives. You disliked this about her but you could never bring yourself to say anything. You still valued her friendship nonetheless.
[8:00 am]
"Are you going to be up in front today?" Adelaide asks as she hands you a pack of blank paper for the printer.
"Just until Kaede gets here." You kneel down and begin to press the buttons needed to open the printer just as the front door opens. You hear the all too familiar beeps of the jammed printer. "Give me one second."
You can feel somebody towering over you as you hurry to open the printer. You could feel their eyes burning into the top of your head as you finally manage to refill the printer paper.
"I'm sorry for the wait." You stand up and dust yourself off. "How can I help you?" You wipe at a small clump of lint that has attached itself to your pants.
"I'm here to leave my kid." A deep voice responds before you finally look up.
You look up and meet the eyes of the number one hero. The Katsuki Bakugo. You had to admit that he was more handsome in person but you push those thoughts to the back of your mind.
"And his name?" You sit down and power up the computer.
"Katsumi Bakugo." Bakugo responds as a small boy peeks out from behind his leg.
"Ah yes. It looks like you haven't filled out his emergency contact information." You click a few things before the printer begins to print. You grab a clipboard from inside the desk before you clip the papers on.
"You'll just have to fill these out and we'll be all set." You hand the clipboard over along with a flower pen. You smile at the sight of such a large man holding a bright pink flower pen.
"Hi." Katsumi says as his little hands lift him onto the desk to better look at you. " 'm Katsmi."
"I'm Y/n. Do you want to come back here and look at all of our toys?"
"Yes please." Katsumi says with a grin before he lands on the ground.
You open the door and watch him slowly peek in. Your smile grows as you watch his eyes widen in excitement. This was a part that you airways enjoyed.
"And who do we have here?" Adelaide asks as she walks towards you.
"This is Katsumi Bakugo. Little one, this is Adelaide. She'll show you around while I finish talking to your dad."
"Kay." Katsumi says before he walks away with Adelaide.
You turn your attention back to the pro hero who is looking at his clipboard in frustration. "Is there a problem?"
"No. Is this all?" Bakugo says as he hands the clipboard back.
You look over the paper before you look back at your screen. "That sh... Oh? Mr. Bakugo, it seems that we're missing all of Katsumi's information besides his date of birth and name." You didn't know how he had even managed to enroll his son into the school but you held back your questions.
"Can't I do this later? I have to get to work." Bakugo says as he checks his watch.
You look at the time to see that it is 8:15. You realize that he had probably decided to go into work late to be able to drop his son off.
"Of course. Please remember that our pick up time is at three on the dot."
"Yeah. Bye little man." Bakugo says before he waves at Katsumi who had been playing with blocks.
"Bye papa!" Katsumi says before waving with a block still in his hand.
You watch the large man walk out without another word. You couldn't help but admire the small act that his son would probably never learn of.
[2:59 pm]
"Miss Y/n! Look!" Katsumi exclaims as he shows you a drawing of what you assume to be his father.
"Wow. It looks amazing. Is this your papa?" You kneel down to his level to better hear the boy.
"Uhuh! Papa fights bad guys! Keeps us safe!" Katsumi says before you hear a soft alarm go off.
"Did you hear that Katsumi?"
"Yes." Katsumi says before he watches you pull your phone out.
"That means.." You stand up straight before letting the alarm capture all the kid's attention. "It's time to go home for the day!"
You instruct the children in cleaning up as parents and nannies begin to arrive.
[3:46 pm]
"Hello Mr. Bakugo, this is my third attempt at reaching you to remind you that it is past pick up time. Please call me back if anything has come up. I can stay until five if necessary but I will still need you to call me back." You hang up before you sigh.
You stand up and slightly move the curtain that covers the TV area.
Your frustrations melt away at the sight of Katsumi watching cartoons with Kaede's niece.
"Are you going to watch Miss?" Katsumi asks as he notices you.
You pretend to think it over before you nod. "Only if you two promise to keep it a secret from Kaede."
"Okay!" The two children exclaim enthusiastically.
You take a seat behind them so as not to block their view of the screen. You let yourself laugh at the childish jokes and gasp at the predictable moments. Being around children all day brought out the inner child that you wished had been better taken care of. This is how you would let yourself heal. By taking care of these children in the ways that you should have been taken care of.
[5:15 pm] [In the preschool]
" 'm hungry." Katsumi says before his stomach rumbles as if to confirm his statement.
"Then we should get you something tasty to eat." You bite the inside of your cheek as you realize that Kaede had already cleaned out the last of the afternoon snack.
You had eaten your lunch long ago and you didn't have permission to take a student off the premises.
"Just give me a second to call your papa." You give the boy a smile before he nods and walks off to color.
You walk to the receptionist desk and quickly punch in the number that you had no choice but to memorize into the phone. You hear the phone ring over and over until you reach his voice-mail.
"Mr. Bakugo, it is past five and much later than three. I have called you ten times. Katsumi is hungry and I know that it is unprofessional and against the rules but I will be taking him to eat. You can reach me at XX-XXX-XXXX." You hang up before you turn to Katsumi.
"What do you want to eat little one?"
"Shabu shabu!" Katsumi practically yells in his excitement.
You smile before nodding. "Well go put your shoes and jacket on." You watch him walk to his cubby before you grab your bag and the keys to the building.
You wait for him to finish putting his shows on before you lead him outside. You lock the door behind you before you look up the closest hot pot restaurant.
You feel his small hand wrap around your fingers before you smile. "Stay right beside me little one."
"Okay Miss!" Katsumi says with a nod before the two of you begin to make your way to the restaurant.
[6:20 pm] [In the hot pot restaurant]
"We'll be having shabu shabu. Could I get a bib as well?"
"Coming right up." The waiter says before walking away.
"Shabu shabu! Shabu shabu! Love shabu shabu!" Katsumi chants as he bounces in his seat.
You put your phone on the table to make sure that you will be able to see if you receive any calls.
"Ice cream later?" Katsumi asks with a tilt of his head.
"Would your papa let you have ice cream on a normal day?" You watch as the waiter returns with a bib and your food. "Thank you."
"no." Katsumi says with a frown.
"Then we'll stop by a convenience store and get you one sweet." You put the bib around his neck as he lights up.
"Miss is so nice!" Katsumi states with a wide grin.
You smile and nod as you place the food into the warm broth that the waiter brought. "But this is only for today."
"Tha's 'kay." Katsumi says as he watches the vegetables float in the broth. "Miss is still a nice lady."
You feel a warmth in your chest at his words. Kids were so pure and honest. It sometimes caught you off-guard how kind and easy to please they were.
[7:37 pm] [Outside of a convenience store]
You carry the sleeping Katsumi in one arm as you use your free hand to win a prize in a claw machine. You manage to get a prize in your first attempt but contain your joy so to not wake the sleeping boy.
You take your prize and smile contently as you begin the long walk back to the preschool.
[8:52 pm] [Inside the preschool]
You put the still sleeping Katsumi down on a bed before you put a blanket over him.
You close the curtain covering the sleeping area as you return to the receptionist desk. You begin to sort the papers that you had left throughout the day.
You wipe down the desk before you water your plant.
"What now?" You look around the space that you had organized before you went out to eat.
You pull your personal laptop out of the locked drawer in the desk. You power it on and take a look at your finances.
"I'm on track to pay the next month of rent but I'm behind for the next two months. You sigh before you look at your expenses. "Phone bill, bus pass, Netflix, Spotify, Hulu, Amazon... I really need to cut back."
You put your head down as you try to think of what to cut out. Your thoughts are interrupted by loud knocking.
You immediately look up to find Bakugo looking at you like a crazed man. You get up and unlock the door.
"Katsumi?!" Bakugo says as he looks past you and into the seemingly empty space.
"He's asleep." You cross your arms in front of your chest as you continue to block the entrance. "It's past three. You didn't explain anything before you left, didn't call, or do anything to let me know that you would be late."
"I know. I thought that my wife would pick him up." Bakugo says as he runs a hand through his hair.
You notice that he is still in his hero attire before you frown. "And why didn't she?"
"Miscommunication on my part." Bakugo says as he continues to look past you.
"You still need to fill out the paperwork before..." You can see that he is anxious to see his son so you cut yourself off. "Do you want help putting him in your car?"
"Yes please." Bakugo says as you motion for him to follow you to the sleeping area.
You gently pick up Katsumi and the blanket along with him. "i won this for him." You hold up the stuffed animal from earlier before he nods.
You carry him outside and wait for Bakugo to open the door to his car. You gently set Katsumi into his car seat before you strap him in.
You wait for Bakugo to close the door before you look him in the eyes. "Is this going to happen again?"
"It most likely will." Bakugo says truthfully. "His mother won't be around for some time and I have hero work. I'll try to find another school for the kid." He says before walking over to the driver's side.
"I'll take care of him." You watch him stop in his tracks to look at you. "I'll stay here until you can pick him up."
"Hero work can go until much later than this." Bakugo reminds.
"I know. I don't mind staying later as long as I'm aware of it."
"I'll pay for the extra time." Bakugo says with a nod.
You nod back before you step away from the car. "Drive safe." You watch him drive away as you try to not get lost in the thoughts of being moved around so much as a child.
You shake your head before you walk back into the preschool to collect your things and finally make your way home. Thoughts of the son and father lingering in the back of your mind.

Katsuki: If the person i have a crush on disagrees with me, I will immediately change my views. I have no principles.
Deku: Well maybe you should have principles.
Katsuki: You're absolutely right. Maybe I should.

You ask Katsuki if he’d love you if you were a worm.
“No, I’d use you as bait and catch a fish to cook up. That way you can go out being useful”
“I want a divorce”
“We aren’t married and even if we were… no”
Don’t ask this man hypotheticals unless you want your feelings hurt🥴

i feel like some people are confused (sorryyyy) because shipping seems to be a much looser term now? like people will call any dynamic they enjoy a ship but like to me, that's sth you actively do and root for and think of as explicitly romantic and /or sexual and that's not the case for me, and i said this before but one thing i rlly enjoy about bnha is the authentic representation of pubescent immaturity and im so busy with dissecting that i don't feel the desire to add even more to the pile like i need bakugo to be a good person and friend before he can qualify for yaoi!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Alright, imagine you and Bakugou are patiently waiting outside the registry office, along with your loved ones under their umbrella as the rain gently fell from the overcast sky. The moment was finally here, the day you and Katsuki would officially become married.
Your mood had been down a bit in the morning since it was raining, but hearing your family and friends talking happily, not minding the rain at all, did improve your mood. Glancing around, you eyes landed on Bakugou's mother, a bit further away from everyone. She was lost in her own thoughts, a serene smile gracing her lips as she absentmindedly toyed with the end of her umbrella. Your expression softening at that, seeing the fierce mother all calm and happy. Probably thinking of her son's journey along with all the memories with Katsuki since he was little and how far he has come now.
You couldn't help but feel a wave of warmth and gratitude wash over you, your eyes getting glassy with he though of how time has passed. Even though Bakugou's mother had been fierce and would bicker with his son constantly, she was a pillar of support throughout your and his relationship, always there with words of encouragement and a caring presence, along side with his father Masaru. You knew the Bakugou family care and love each other dearly. Seeing her lost in reflection, with a soft smile etched upon her face, filled your heart with a deep appreciation for the love and acceptance you had received from Bakugou's family. You had been nervous when you had to meet them for the first time.
Your attention shifted to your friends and your own family members, who were waiting nearby, engaged in lively conversations. Laughter and warm exchanges filled the air as their loved ones shared anecdotes and cherished the moment together, even though it was raining. Bakugou had told you in the morning that even with rain it had something unique in itself adding it's own little beauty to this moment.
In that moment, your gaze met Bakugou's, and a shared understanding passed between you two. Meanwhile, your friends were capturing the essence of the day, eagerly snapping pictures to immortalize the precious moments not minding the rain at all. Their cameras clicked, freezing fragments of happiness and love in time. The rain continued to patter overhead, you felt a gentle squeeze of Bakugou's hand. Your eyes meet his vermilion eyes, a smile on your lips.
You were ready to take this step with him. Ready to embrace the beautiful journey that awaited you as you and Bakugou stepped into the official marriage

Ok so this translation dropped
Tumblr media
And I don’t know why but to me personally “I’M KACCHAN OF THE BAKUGOS” sounds like him and Deku are married, no I don’t mean relationship as boyfriend’s I genuinely mean it that it sounds like they are married
It feels like Deku has met the Bakugo’s before not just Katsuki himself but Deku has met Masaru and Mitsuki as well. It feels like Deku is actually apart of the Bakugo family
Sure it may sound funny or just absolutely ridiculous but generally in real life being childhood friends means that their families have met each other before, they interacted before and I personally think that the Bakugo’s have met Deku before because in S5 when Deku and Katsuki go over to the Todoroki household to have dinner Deku says “It’s, uhh, pretty rare I get to see a friend’s house”
Wouldn’t Deku have said “I’ve never seen a friend’s house before” if this would have been the very first time
So yeah I do believe that Deku has been over at Katsuki’s house before and that the Bakugo’s know Deku hence it wouldn’t be weird to acknowledge or deny that the Bakugo’s view Deku as someone they hold dear to. They would view Deku as someone important to their son’s life
On top of that I believe that Mitsuki and Inko are friends or at least know one another through school gatherings or simply because of Deku and Katsuki being friends
Tumblr media
Anyways… getting back on topic, Katsuki saying “I’M KACCHAN OF THE BAKUGOS” genuinely sounds like Deku and Katsuki are a married couple because to be honest he could have said “I’M KACCHAN YOU DUMBASS!”
The “OF THE BAKUGOS” was unnecessary because he is basically calling himself ‘Kacchan Bakugo’ and if one thinks about it normally when people get married they take the man’s last name but no Katsuki really said ‘No this is my name, Kacchan is my name it will be my first name and my only name towards Deku and no one else. I am Kacchan Bakugo to Deku and only him’
Katsuki really pulled a 180 and decided to change his first name so now to everyone else he is still ‘Katsuki Bakugo’ but he is only ‘Kacchan Bakugo’ to Deku
On top of that Izuku himself decided to willingly and gladly accept ‘Deku’ not only is it his hero name but some people call him ‘Deku’ on a everyday basis and that’s his name he normalized ‘Deku’ and he actually responds to it unknowingly he simple became ‘Deku Midoriya’ without saying it
So now they are on the same boat now being ‘Kacchan Bakugo’ and ‘Deku Midoriya’ they both accepted it and that’s their like second official names but it only belongs to themselves and no one else
So yes it does sound like they are a married couple

Ummm you in your 1970’s style pink pantsuit selling cosmetics at a small boutique at the local mall. The carpet smells like mildew and old lady parfum, and the till is right in front of the glass window displays which show you off to the milling shoppers.
Most of your customers are women looking for skincare advice, don’t mind the fact you chew bubblegum and sip soda from a styrofoam cup, but one day a man comes in, silent and strong, blonde with a fierce scowl… looking for some kind of gift for a woman he’s trying to court (but failing, because he doesn’t really like her, you can tell when he reveals it was his mom who sent him your way)…
But you sit him down at your lit vanity anyway, and take his rough hand in yours to rub different creams onto his knuckles and shimmering powders over the veins of his wrist, telling him which are the most popular and which you like best………….. only to find that instead of looking at the products, he’s looking right at you, instead.

for @the-wild-wolves-around-you @ofmermaidstories and @willowser because you each deserve some good mando baku 🩶
“Wait mandalorians can get married?” You are more curious than anything and the question leaves you before you can even keep your mouth shut.
All focus is on the crowd before you. Everyone, including the familiar crimson beskar wearing warrior Kirishima, rushed to congratulate the two other mandalorians who stepped out of the tent. The couple simply walked out, announced they were married, and immediately celebration broke forth so fast, so bright it stole your breath. There was no question from the others, only joy and trust. You understood different cultures had various marriage traditions. Yet this one was so different than the other grand ceremonies composed of elegant gowns and fully packed banquet halls. It felt...more intimate.
“Yes we can marry, shitty Jedi.” Bakugo sounds almost offended and your heart crumbles fast into your stomach. This tentative whatever the two of you have forged is important to you and you don’t want to shatter it.
You apologize and mean it. “I didn’t know. The ceremony seemed so fast and private though.”
“It is.” Bakugo’s modulated voice drops softer through the helmet.
“Don’t know if it’s true, but there’s some old ass urban legend the first mandalorian marriage was done during battle. No ceremony, no pompous bullshit. The two just exchanged vows in the middle of battle to bind their lives together.”
An image surges fast in your mind. Two ancient warriors fighting side by side, the trenches of battle pushing the lovers further and further to the terrifying realization they might not see tomorrow. Their love, bloodstained and battle born.
“Legend says the shit they vowed became the vows mandalorians have said ever since.”
It’s a beautiful, sacred and so simple. But it conjures up a deadly new thought in your mind -
An army of storm troopers surrounds you. The ache of battle soaks you to your bones. Your body barely stands back to back against beskar. Suddenly you move without thinking. You turn fast towards the fierce mandalorian. With your lightsaber in one hand, the other reaches out to him and you find the familiar beautiful black colored beskar helmet is already looking at you. Without hesitation he grabs your hand-
You exhale loud, blinking back into reality as you mentally stab those thoughts away.
“That’s beautiful.” You truthfully admit, admiring as a grateful outsider. “I'm thinking the ceremonies are private for the sake of the helmet removal.”
“Yeah. S'why even other mandalorians aren't usually around when it happens. And cause...” Bakugo’s modulated gruff voice trails off. “…Shit, I’m going to sound even more ridiculous-”
“You won’t I promise.” You interrupt reassuring him as your eyes finally glance at him. His helmet is slightly tilted towards you. He sighs and looks back out to the crowd. You do as well.
“The vows, they're important. No one but us or those we're marrying can know them.“
They are meant to be said in private for that reason. The sacredness of knowing is too precious, meant to be shared with someone special. An aggressive curiosity claws at you. You want to know what is spoken and vowed. You rationalize this curiosity as simply wanting to understand the culture more. However, the force whispers the true reason why into the deep caverns of your heart and you cannot even face that truth yet.
The lightsaber silent on your hip weighs more than an entire galaxy.
“Hey guys!” Kirishima, loud and warm even through his helmet. “Isn’t it great?”
“It is.” You answer with a warm earnest grin. “I hope everyone gets to celebrate with the newlyweds.”
“Oh yeah! We already got a few plans in mind.” Kirishima’s voice holds a playful grin in it. Even though you cannot see his face you believe it to be just as bright as the two moons shining above.
“This making you think about your own upcoming ceremony, huh Bakugo?!” Then Kirishima’s words grab your heart. He slaps Bakugo’s shoulder playfully and the clanging clash of beskar hitting beskar makes your mind rattle.
“Get the fuck out of here.” Bakugo’s snarl is sharp, piercing. You had never even heard him talk this way to his fellow commander.
“Alright, alright I get it. Those pre marriage jitters I’m sure get to everyone even you!” Kirishima however is not phased one bit. He waves a playful goodbye and returns to the celebrating.
But it leaves you two alone again. The air is thin and tight. Even with the warm laughs and celebration bubbling so close, a dread builds.
“You’re…getting married?” Your voice is small, a bit confused. You do not even recognize it.
A moment passes.
“I…yeah.” He replies. The words puncture a hole in your chest and air is rapidly escaping. A hollowness quickly fills up the gaping space.
“It’s a political arrangement between the different clans.” Bakugo’s voice is composed, but it does not sound like him.
In the entire time you have known this warrior, you had never once heard him speak about his betrothed, much less about his impending marriage. And…you had never once heard him speak this quiet, almost distant.
“Oh.” Your voice mirrors his, just as quietly detached.
“Congratulations then.” You hate that you cannot find a single thread of celebration in your tone or feel any earnestly as the hollowness consumes you.
“I'm praying for the poor sucker stuck with marrying you.” You jokingly tease but the minute the words leave you, your eyes start to sting. Your lips twitch and the taste of tears comes in the back of your throat. An ache you cannot even process yet has the force retreating from you like a sacred small creature. All you do is simply swallow everything back.
Bakugo stays quiet, does not even respond to your jest or thank you for the congratulations.
Under the light of the two moons, the cheers of the marriage celebration continue to illuminate the air.
And you walk away, not saying another word.

I need to fully flesh out this fic but I imagine Bakugou marrying someone who just has him whipped. Don’t get me wrong, he’s still Bakugou through and through, but man is he a low key Masaru 2.0
Like he’s out for tea with his wife and some old his old UA alumni and she overhears someone saying something rather unsavory about Kirishimas new hero costume so she stands up to confront them. Bakugou, knowing how absolutely dangerous his wife is, motions to get up as well. His wife, without breaking eye contact with her next victim says,
“Sit down.”
And oop, down he sits. Much to everyone’s surprise.
Moments later he does get up to go grab his wife, Sero commenting, “yeah go get her dude, there’s like five of them over there.”
“Nah,” Bakugou responds, annoyed but dawning a shit eating grin, “gotta go save them from her.”
He loves her so damn much.

It's always kinda surprised me when this part in the series
Tumblr media
Never was brought up in reference to BKDK. Cause like I know Ms. Joke is just messing around with Aizawa when he's praising his students, but it's interesting to me that she would bring up love when Aizawa is just talking about them. To me, it kinda feels as though from his words she can feel how deep and strong the connection that these two share isn't normal.
I could 100% be reading too much into this, I'm not the greatest at doing deep dives of stories, but it just interested me that marriage was brought up in connection to them, and honestly how amazing would it be if Aizawa offiated their wedding and legit married them (to each other).

feels like...
i have been in such a writing rut BUT writing this made me feel better. i'm sorry but i do not believe the girlies that think katsuki is planning elaborate proposals. i think it goes down just like this and i love him so much it makes me sick♡
wc: 845ish cw: gn reader, fluff
The cicadas call in, strong and shrill, through the bedroom window. Under his fingertips, your pulse thrums beneath your skin. Steady, constant. A relief to him.
You've never asked him why his hand curves around the back of your neck like a reflex— it's never seemed to bother you, with the way you lean into his touch. If you should ever decide to ask him, he's not sure he'd have the words to give you an explanation. Maybe that's why you haven't. You were considerate of him like that.
Bakugo Katsuki can identify his feelings. He's put in the work in the years you've been together, and it's at least given him that-- anxiety creeps up his spine and coils in his lungs. Rage sets fire to his nerve endings with the hope that one will be the catalyst to the destruction he's so adept at unfurling from the palms of his hands. Happiness is a flood that pools around his ankles, warm and not at all scary like he thinks it ought to be. Longing, usually for you, makes his teeth ache.
But love is the feeling of your pulse against his skin. The expansion of your chest with every inhale you pull in. The stretch of your muscles as you mold your body to the contours of his own.
Love is the knowledge that you are alive and here with him.
He knows this, feels it when it happens (so often, as bodily functions do), and he can't say it. So instead, he speaks into the silence of the room.
"Been thinking about something."
You hum, your chest vibrating softly against his, and he gets that feeling again.
He pauses—braces himself for his own words—because he knows that the thing he’s about to say will not be what he wants it to be. Katsuki can identify his feelings, but he has not gotten to the part where he knows how to verbalize them. That takes much more time, and a much more developed vocabulary. Possibly less expletives.
He feels the familiar slither against the inside of his chest and ignores it, because he has been thinking about this (agonizing maybe), and he can't keep it in his brain anymore.
"You ever think about gettin' married?"
He braces himself for a withdrawal, or at least the feeling of your muscles tensing against him—it doesn't come. Instead, you lift your head, resting your chin against the arm that spans his chest to look him in the eye. Another scraping twist in his chest. He fights the urge to look up at the ceiling.
"Married to you?" you ask, softly. Still, he deflects.
"To anyone."
"Mm," the smile that spreads across your face is slow and knowing, because what he wants to ask floats around you like so many balloons. You spare his pride anyway.
"Sometimes," you murmur, "though I don't think I would be interested in like, the traditional way of doing things."
By now, the coiling in his chest has made it to his throat. He can only look at you and hope you take it as a prompt to continue.
"I'm not one for surprise proposals," you tell him through slightly smooshed cheeks against his chest, "or big, elaborate ceremonies. I actually think I would like everything to be private," you pause, looking straight inside him, "you know, just you and me."
"Really?" It's the first word he can choke out, mostly because the hope and the relief he feels join forces to take a baseball bat to the thing in his chest.
You hum your affirmation, eyes still on his.
He's quiet for a long time, after that. Your eyes close eventually, a soft smile still pulling at your lips, like you know what's coming and you're there and ready, but you're waiting patiently for him to meet you. You are always patient—he thinks it's a kindness that he's not always deserved. He takes a deep breath, and prays to whoever is listening that he doesn't stutter.
"Do you want to marry me?"
Your eyes flutter open again, but your expression doesn't change, save for the way your smile stretches a little farther across your face.
"Are you asking my opinion or are you proposing?"
Katsuki rolls his eyes at that, scoffing a little. "Never mind," he says, mouth pulling at the corners, "M’not asking at all."
You smile at him, all teeth and a feigned noise of indignance, reaching up to flick his nose.
"Aren't you supposed to have a ring or something?" you ask after a moment, and the tail end of what's been rooting around in his chest cavity slaps him in the gut.
"D'ya want one?" he asks quietly. You pause, lips pursed like you're thinking it over.
"No," you say, and he feels the thing shrink from a boa constrictor to an earthworm, "I want, like, a sword or something."
And Katsuki laughs out loud at that, something rare and warm that makes you close your eyes whenever you hear it.
"Fuckin' weirdo," he mumurs fondly, reaching up to thread his fingers through the ends of your hair, "I'll get you whatever you want."
Warmth pools at his ankles, and his lungs feel clearer than they ever have.

todobaku only get married at age like 30, because they live together for so long and go to so many family or other events as each others +1s, that it eventually just makes sense.
shoto brings it up for insurance and healthcare purposes.
