I just ADORE the idea of potter sibs learning lessons from their namesakes and being nothing like them :)

James being calm and studious and kinder than his namesakes

Albus learning how NOT to handle very specific social situations from his namesakes

And Lily is just like "FUCK them kids lmao"

YESSSSS literally.

james is more popular than his namesakes were (i like to think james and sirius were just impervious to popularity&they just gave 0 fucks, although sirius was default popular because of his surname and his attractiveness) because hes more welcoming and less of a dick and a nepobaby, but he’s emotionally distant with his peers and finds it hard to open up to others because he’s always a little suspicious of people (unlike james sr, who was an open book). he plays quidditch because he knows he should and it makes his mum happy and its kinda fun and hes kinda good but hes not that passionate about it. he gets amazing grades because hes studies a lot and not because hes a natural genius (unlike sirius, who didnt have to study hard for anything to pass comfortably). james a perfectionist, by-the-book person who struggles to think outside of the box, unlike his grandfather whos genius lied in nothing else.

albus reminds me more of his namesakes than the other two potter siblings, but he probably would appreciate the comparison the least. he’s quiet and lonesome and angsty with a ‘no one will understand me’ mindset, but severely attaches himself to the people he loves, and carries them with him throughout his life without ever moving on (all exactly like severus). hes cunning and always ready to martyr himself (both dumbledore and severus), but hes way more audacious and simple. he has a ‘1 + 1 = 2 end of story’ mind that he got from his parents that completely goes against severus and dumbledore’ long game of chess. albus does not care for such BS, hes still got that gryffindor dawg in him. he will go against every expectation set out for him on purpose (unlike dumbledore and snape, who will use their reputation to their advantage). also, albus is happy lmfao. its why he commits his life to himself and not to others like his namesakes did. he wants simple things like nicely-cooked dinners, warm houses, and to get married young and start a family. kind of like his dad and grandmother.

and lilyyyyy. she is all over the place. she is the quidditch star, the loud one in class, the person who fakes her report cards so her mum doesnt freak out at her. shes not studious like her grandmother, she attracts people to her and selects the greatest pick out of the litter for friends, and shes got a lot of friends (unlike lily evans, who’s love is so concentrated and loyal to very few, and luna who was socially repellent). she travels everywhere because shes a glutton for experiences, she doesnt plan ahead, shes will never be tied down— not even by true love and the prospect of staying with them forever. shes open like luna but her mind is more of a straight arrow than luna’s genius. lily grows up and never has any kids, not because she hates children but because she just never particularly wanted to. she never grew out of being reckless and impatient and impulsive, and she had always known that those traits would not be compatible with raising a child and she was okay with that (unlike lily evans who had always wanted to be a mother, and had dedicated herself to her baby).

But this is not Obi-Wan, Obi-Wan is dead. Her face is angry yet restrained, like Obi-Wan’s anger, so much like Obi-Wan- yet not. Jinn’s eyes are watery. She brings her boot to his chest.

“You…” she starts, “You don’t even know what you’ve done. How can you justify this? How can you give reason where there is none?” She closes her eyes breathes in through her nose. Vader smiles under his mask, “So much like your father.” She opens her eyes meeting his through the mask. Her expression is one of focused calculation, a look he was so familiar with.

“I am not my father, I could hardly begin to comprehend him.” She makes a noise like a half-cut-off laugh, “You sicken me, how could you have done this to him; he...” she breathed in, “he loved you, even at the end; even when you cut him down.” She sheathes her lightsaber, “So I can't kill you for my father, for the love he felt for you. For your son, who for some reason believes that there is still good in you. Know that if you prove him wrong nothing will protect you from my wrath.”

Scorbus Headcannons:

Albus is slightly taller, but they look the same height.

Scorpius has more pale white-ish hair than Draco and he keeps it at a side parting all the time.

I ship Rose x Scorpius more than Albus x Scorpius. That’s more Romeo and Juliet for me personally because Ron hated Malfoy’s so much more than Harry. And Draco hated Hermione and her blood status. Harry would be more understanding and accept Scorpius so it’s not as fun. Ron would loose his shit and do everything to keep them apart, and it would take a lot for them be together. It doesn’t matter what Scorpius did Ron would find a way to hate everything about him. Draco would be so disgusted that his son fell in love with a Weasley and that’s why I love it because he would be sooo pissed off. Have you read cursed child? I recently read it on my friend's recommendation after years of avoiding it as bad fanfiction. Which, it definitely kind of is! I was, however, pleasantly surprised by Ron and Hermione in it... I can't believe this fandom doesn't talk more about how Ron chooses to die with her and how Hermione asks him to kiss her before the dementors sweep in on them. This is the stuff of dramatic fanfiction! People complain about Ron being very... movie!Ron in the play, but they're so in love I almost don't even register it. And him asking her to marry him again! God. They're so good. Why isn't Romione more popular.

i have not read the cursed child - partially this is a result of having got back into harry potter fandom during the pandemic, and therefore having missed the period when it was everywhere in 2016-ish; partially it's because having returned to the fandom after jkr went off the deep end does make me less comfortable engaging with her newer ip, even in circumstances where she doesn't get any money from it; partially it's because i don't have the backbone to be perceived as a harry potter adult while buying it from a charity shop.

which is a shame, because - as you outline here - it sounds so fucking camp, which is something right up my alley. and i do really like many of themes and tropes which emerge in it - i am, for example, a paid-up bellamort baby truther; i like the concept of scorbus; i saw an absolutely deranged post once where someone was trying to claim that cursed child proves snamione is canon, and that's nonsensical energy i respect; someone sent me a picture of a scene where harry polyjuices into voldemort and tells delphini she's not as good-looking as bellatrix once, and i screeched; i am genuinely impressed to hear that it does romione well...

we could have had it so good, but i fear it's not to be.

Dinner Revelations Written for the Ginnyversary Bingo Challenge with the prompt: I20 — "She went to the toilet and on her way back, opened the wrong door." Read on: AO3

Ginny was in a wonderful mood, it was Friday afternoon and they were just getting ready for a long awaited Potter-family dinner.

She stepped into the dressing room, looking through her clothing, she wanted to go for something classy for the night. Pulling a long black dress from the dresser she eyed the garment carefully, before she took a red one out as well, comparing the two pieces.

Eventually deciding on the black one, which would perfectly work with the new pair of dark grey Jimmy Choo’s, Harry had gotten her for her birthday two weeks ago.

She stepped into their bedroom, where her husband was getting ready as well, currently struggling with the buttons on his white shirt. “You need to stop putting on muscle!” Ginny giggled, ogling her husband “Or we’ll have to get you a new drawer soon.” She joked, earning her a rude hand gesture from Harry.

“It’s just my button-downs.” Harry declared. “I bought them just after finishing School, and well, I’ve grown out of them.” He stretched his arms, as he managed to finally close the top button, earning him a wolf whistle from Ginny.

She focused her concentration back on her own clothing as she stepped into her dress, feeling the silky garment fall around her body perfectly. “I am happy Scorpius is joining us tonight, especially with the news of Astoria being so sick, the boy needs some distraction.” Ginny started. “ And I can understand him wanting to spread his wings a bit now, he and Al will be turning 16 soon, and I noticed there’s something between them.” She explained, gesturing for Harry to help her with the zipper of the dress.

“For as oblivious I normally am when it comes to things like that, I’ve noticed it too,” Harry admitted, as he pulled up the zipper on her back. “Those boys have become more than friends, but maybe they haven’t realized that yet.” He finished, as Ginny stepped away from him, letting her long red hair fall back over her back.

She could feel his eyes on her body, as she gave him a little spin. “Well, let's see what happens tonight, it’s quite the romantic setting.” She joked. “Minus the entire family being there of course.”

She finished her turn as she faced Harry, who swallowed as his eyes wandered up and down her body, making her grin.

“Less drooling more dressing, come on, we have to leave in ten minutes, Jamie and Lils are probably already waiting downstairs.” She told him, before she slowly leaned in, now whispering in his ear. “I promise, you can peel it off me as soon as we’re home.” With that sentence she turned, smirking, as she left a drooling Harry staring after her. “I’ll be waiting downstairs!”

The dinner was a loud affair, the restaurant they had booked had a fancy dress code, and the entire family was dressed up fancily.

Ginny watched as James and Lily were bickering over something and shot her husband a grateful look as he only rolled his eyes, trying to sort out whatever they were fighting over.

Other than some classic Potter family infighting, the evening had been relatively uneventful, yet she could feel the tension that lingered between her second-oldest son and his best friend. The two boys had barely spoken throughout the evening, and now Albus had excused himself to the loo, while Scorpius had left to get them all some lemonade at the restaurant bar.

“No, you are a skrewt!”

“No, you are one!”

Ginny sighed as James and Lily continued their bickering, Harry unable to control their spawn, and she decided she needed a loo break as well, even if just for the momentary silence.

She got up, just avoiding a flying handkerchief Lily had chucked towards James and missed. Goodness, she thought, when would those two ever grow up?

She quickly found the toilet, swiftly doing her business before she went to wash her hands at the sink. Her thoughts drifted towards Al and Scorpius again, the two of them hadn't returned yet, maybe they had a fight, or maybe they were trying to keep some distance. She turned off the water, drying her hands on the paper towels to her left.

It all did seem rather odd she thought, Ginny knew 16 could be a complicated age, but still, those boys had been best friends from the day they met on the Hogwarts Express, and of course there had been fights, like with every friendship, but this… tension… was new.

She was so lost in her thoughts that as she stepped from the room to go back, instead of going back through the door on her left, towards the dining area, she accidentally went straight, pushing open the door to the men’s bathroom, not expecting what she would find behind it.

She snapped out of her thoughts as her mouth almost fell open and she had to suppress a loud gasp of happiness. Just in front of her, leaning against one of the stalls, there was her second oldest son, only that he wasn’t alone, but closely entangled with his blond-haired best friend, who it seemed, was currently snogging his brains out.

Ginny reacted fast, swiftly spinning back around and silently shutting the door behind her. She couldn’t believe it, she had been right, there was more between them, so much more. She quickly held still to listen if the boys had noticed her, but it seemed they were too preoccupied with their mouthy activities.

Ginny simply couldn't contain her grin as she paced back towards the dining area, that was a new development she couldn't wait to follow.

Genderbend Scorbus: Names

Scorpius and Albus have names, that are really difficult to turn into a female name, so I guessed entirely new names would be better.

Scorpius: Cassiopeia Callisto Malfoy

Cassiopeia is not only the name of a constellation, which fits to the Malfoy/Black-family tradition to name their children after constellations, but also the name of one of Draco's distant relatives, Cassiopeia Black. She never married or had any children. So the name could also be a hint at her sexuality.

Callisto is the name of a star and of a figure in Greek mythology, who was a Huntress of Artemis, the goddess of hunt and virginity (and more). She was said to have a very close friendship with Artemis (chrm chrm), which is why this name is fitting for a queer character like Scorpius.

Also, I just like those names.

Her nickname would be Cassie obviously.

Albus: Ruby Regina Potter

Ruby = Rubeus Hagrid

Regina = Regulus Black

Keeping up the concept of Albus' name: one Gryffindor and one Slytherin hero

Also it means "Queen of Rubies", which is kind of ironic as rubies represent Gryffindor and Albus is obviously Slytherin.

Her nickname would be Roo or Reggie.
