Tech Tuesday meets House Targaryen
Tumblr media
Continuing on with Clone Force 99 characters as characters from The Blackfyre Rebellion by George R.R. Martin, I quickly drew up Daeron II Targaryen and his wife, Myriah Martell.
Of course, Tech would be Daeron: he's logical, learned. and knows how to diffuse a situation by being rational...unlike his crazy brothers. Daeron was one of the most successful Targaryens as a result. If you've watched either Game of Thrones or House of the Dragon, you know that's not an easy feat.
From the Wiki of Ice and Fire:
"Daeron the Good was seen as wise, just, and kind-hearted. Not a warrior by any means, he was a cultured, scholarly man who kept company with maesters and other learned men."
I debated on who Myriah should be, then rewatching the first season of The Bad Batch, using sassy gearhead Trace Martez hit me like a Baratheon's hammer. The Martez sisters have RAW House Martell energy. Trust my nerdy ass on this one.
PS - Phee is totally Princess Nymeria, a badass sailing queen who made Dorne what it is.
PPS - I will be shading it and adding more details. The dragon crown looked incredibly dumb, so I simplified it.

He’s reliving so much pain here. The disappointment in himself for letting his brother down, the shame of defeat, Maul’s empathy for Savage…. One of those things he’ll never forgive himself for.

Rafa Martez: You don't know, do you? Why do we keep our distance from the Jedi?
Ahsoka Tano: Why?
Trace Martez: A few months ago a Jedi was accused of bombing their temple, the Jedi suspect... Some other torgruta... Witnessed a suspect be strangled to death and just, ran away instead of reporting what happened, resisting arrest the whole way, even though she kept claiming she was framed.
Rafa Martez: She diverted the authority's attention from investigating the bombing and even worked with a known Separatist Assassin to try and figure it out for herself. It was chaos, everywhere.
Trace Martez: And when the Jedi finally caught the real suspect, they didn't even punish her... They tried to award her with Knighthood.
Rafa Martez: That's why we keep our distance from them.
Ahsoka Tano: Uhh...

Maybe it’s too early in my days as a tumblr to post something like this, but I have always thought that people HATED the Martez sisters not because they are “flat, boring, or poorly written” as they claim but simply because they are 1. women
2. have queer coded/alternative haircuts
3. are really realistic characters for star wars
That is all.

one day i will make the meta post about white women asking for more women led stories in star wars and using stories led by men of color as examples on how star wars isn't diverse but today is not that day.

Thoughts after finishing The Dad Bad Batch:
Cad Bane's Wild West theme music. That's it. That's the thought.
I wasn't sure I would end up getting attached to any of the characters, but they're growing on me. Especially Hunter. He's such a Dad.
I cackled way too hard when Hunter sold off Echo
Tech calling Omega up to help him??? Wrecker teaching her how to disarm an explosive??? Her trying to imitate Hunter's knife twirling??? It's so pure???
Hunter is Dad. Echo is Mom. Tech is your mom's brother. Wrecker is your dad's brother.
Crosshair is such a drama queen
I honestly don't think I could have survived those last three episodes if I didn't already know there was going to be a season two
Nala Se???? What are you doing?????
The two guys who hang out in Cid's parlor are my favorite character dynamic
Even though the batchers didn't seem to interact directly with Jedi a whole lot they seem to trust them so much???
No one told me abut the Martez sisters cameo and i might have screeched a little bit
Hera!!!!!!
AZI and Crosshair are going to be hilarious
Rex!!!!!!
The way they played the Bad Batch theme when they were all fighting the droids together... poetic...

My redneck neighbor Doug's interpretations on various 'Bad Batch' characters: Side Character Edition!
I'm chuffed that everyone thinks my neighbor Doug is funny: he really is a gem. I had no idea we'd bond over Star Wars and crappy weather, but here we are.
Naturally, I had to bother him about other characters that showed up on The Bad Batch, so, here we go!
Tumblr media
Phee Genoa: Ah-ha, that there’s Church Lady. You know her, she’s got a big square in her pocketbook and you don’t know if it’s pound cake or a brick, because the Lord saves but He can’t help you in the alley when you’re in Treme and the streetlights just turned on. She has two ex-husbands who are both preachers and they turned to Jesus because they are so scared of Church Lady in court.
(So I guess he’s saying Phee has raw WHO DAT energy, for my Saints fans out there)
Cid: Looking at this fat lizard bitch makes me hungry. I call that one Houma-BBQ because I’m guessing we could feed a whole parish fire station based on the size of her tail. I wish she’d shut up, she reminds me of my mother-in-law.
Cad Bane: Homeboy looks like a Sesame Street character who teaches Big Bird about concealed carry laws. I call him Gun Safety Muppet. I don’t like him because he shot my Wife and I’s Boyfriend on the other show and his robot needs to be tossed into a wood chipper.
(“I’m not gay, but Jenny and I…well, we would make an exception to that man. You ever see ‘Deadwood’? Man is fine. I’m not GAY.”)
Fennec Shand: That’s The Chick that’s in Everything. She was on ER and Boba Fett and I think a Marvel show too? I like her. Hope she kills Gun Safety Muppet and hurls his blue ass into a dumpster.
Howzer: That’s my niece’s boyfriend, Jorge. We all love Jorge, nice guy, owns an auto repair shop and always remembers plates and napkins for the cookouts after church.
Gregor: Jorge’s cousin, Manny. Met him once at Christmas in Miami, nice guy, only drinks brown liquor and insists everyone arm wrestle him. But he’s got a good job as a PE teacher, we respect education, come on now.
The Martez Sisters: Aw, man, it’s Jorge’s Unemployed Sisters. I hate it when they show up for Christmas and get into fights with my momma.
(“Doug, you know they’re not related to the clones at all, right?” “Says who?” “The PLOT?” “Eh, they’ll change it, just watch.”)
Mayday: Aw, I liked this guy so much! That’s Sassy Park Ranger, he’s the type that gives you your camping permits, warns you about the bears, and then is all disappointed when you don’t properly stow your food and the bears destroy the campsite. I need to go back to Little River Canyon, that place was pretty.
Lt. Nolan: THAT STUPID BLOND JACKASS. (Doug was so enraged by the guy he had nothing else to add. Damn.)
Senator Chuchi: Why does this lady make me want a blue slushie? I’ll call her the Sonic Special. They need more Sonics here in the north, they really do.
Cody: That’s Obi-Wan’s Boyfriend, he’s sad all the time. We know why. (Confirmed that Doug is a Codywan shipper and I don’t know what to do about that)
Royce Hemlock: Is that Jimmy Neutron after he grew up and became one of those guys that’s on the internet all the time writing creepy things? It’s Jimmy-the-Scientist. He looks like the type of person dogs get weird around.
Rex: That's Rex. He's a king. Respect him.

Ahsoka had always felt Anakin's attention somewhat like a spotlight. He couldn't help it. With as high a Midaclorian count as he had, everything he did through the force was loud. Obi-wan told her it hadn't been as obvious before he started his training.
Back when Anakin was a child all he did was read the force. He never touched it, manipulated it, he just listened. And that constant flow of force into him made him very quiet and nearly invisible in the force.
But the moment he learned to reach out. To push his will into the force. It was like the vibrating ring of a gong. So much louder than the tickling bells of the other younglings.
Now that he was a full-fledged knight Anakin was a constant cacophony within the force. He sent ripples throughout the force like a transhandoan makes water ripple when they bellow.
Since they've cultivated a training bond Ahsoka has always been able to tell when Anakin turns his attention to her through the force. Waves washing over her almost palpable enough that she can feel them on her skin.
At first she was overwhelmed, distracted by the constant onslaught of Anakin. But as they grew together Ahsoka found her footing like a fisherman grows used to the rocking of his ship.
Now when Ahsoka feels the waves cresting over her she reaches for the threads of their bond and tugs back playfully. Reassuring her master that even when out of his sight, she is fine.
Across a battlefield, across the ship, or even on different deployments. Anakin always turns his attention on her occasionally. Feeling her out.
It's tremendously helpful in cases where she needs his help. More than once Ahsoka has yanked on the bond demanding Anakin attention. His powerful gaze turning to read her stress and her panic before she's even tried to project it to him. His alarm quickly flowing back to her in a way that lets her know he's already coming for her.
That was before she'd run away from him. Hiding amongst the levels of Coruscant with that spotlight following her every move was nerve-racking. Anakin was impossible to lose. Impossible to disappear from. The weight of his attention pushing harder against her. Trying to pin her to the ground.
And then after.....after she left.
It was a long time before she felt him turn her way again. He'd never severed the bond. But he never touched it either. He sat with his back to it like a toddler throwing a fit. Ignoring her existence.
Feeling his gaze sweep over her again. Even momentarily sent a shiver through her. She'd almost forgotten just how intense it was.
On the ship, in front of the Martez sisters, she could pass it off. Ignoring his attention as it quickly slipped back away from her. Longing and sadness dragging over her.
But then again, days later. In a cell for the third force-forsaken time, still imprisoned on Oba Diah, frustrated and tired and feeling helpless on her own, she feels him again.
The full weight of Anakin feeling her through the force. His attention starts selfishly. Focused on his own loneliness shoving itself punishingly into her mind. Then as she staggers against the bars momentarily receiving a shock from the plasma shield, his feelings turn to alarm.
Anakin is very familiar with the feeling of a plasma shield. He feels the shock it's self through her tired system and his own emotions recede from her mind as his guardian instincts kick in.
Ahsoka winces as he fully grasps their bond yanking on the line as he examines it. She can practically hear his voice echoing in her mind "Where are you" though the actual feeling is more like a demanding shot of alarm.
As alarmed as he is he is impossible to shrug off. But his constant attention actually gives Ahsoka an idea. If Anakin was imprisoned in the base of the pike syndicate at the center of the spice trade, how would he bust out?
It's with Anakin, quite literally, in mind that leads Ahsoka to the pike's armory and then their spice refining plant. It was rather stupid of them to store explosive charges in the same building as raw and unstable spice.
When Ahsoka blasts her way out she doesn't have a chance to contact anyone for some time. The mandalorians approach her on her way off planet. They offer her a ride. After Ahsoka and Bo have it out, she's busy for days learning about the struggles of Mandalore and the unfortunate fate of the Duchess.
Ahsoka manages to shove Anakin's attention away with a reassuring surge of relief. An all-clear signal she'd used plenty during combat. He reluctantly backs off. But never quite turns away from her again. Occasionally tugging the line to bother her.
When the night owls finally secure her an untraceable comm line Ahsoka intends to call him. To explain herself and reassure him she's fine. The mission debrief is already scripted, on the tip of her tongue. But she isn't a soldier anymore. And Anakin doesn't need to know about her every move now.
She sends a recorded message to Cody instead. She's not sure why him specifically, except that she knows Cody will use the intel properly and he won't go out of his way to try to contact her directly.
Her report is short and to the point. She was held on Oba Diah for three days, she blew up one of the major refineries and the Pikes seemed interested in capturing her as a jedi. They eluded to some conspiracy they were plotting against the jedi. Or at least specifically counted the jedi as an enemy.
She shared no personal details or those of the sisters she'd been traveling with.
When Cody received the recording he brought it first to Rex. Unsure of how exactly this information should be presented to the Generals. Or why Ahsoka would send it to him off all people.
"It'll cause a bacta shortage." Rex says, his eyes so glassy they reflect a perfect image of the screen.
"We have to inform the medics right away."
No one knows how the jedi will respond. They're all liable to explode when they hear the news. So the commanders do the only sane thing and schedule a council-wide holocall, one Skywalker is invited to as well.
When Cody plays the message for them the room is so silent you could hear a pin drop.
Until the moment Skywalker's blood vessels pop.
"What was she doing on Oba Diah??"
"Blowing up buildings clearly."
"How did she get there?"
"will this cause conflict with the Pikes?"
"it sounds like there's already conflict with the Pikes."
"She's still functioning as an agent outside of the military."
"I'm sure that's illegal."
Obi-wan sits with his head in his hands, his shoulder quaking with silent laughter. An edge of hysteria to his silent outburst.
As the council members bicker over the intel Anakin seizes the bond between him and his padawan and Yanks with punishing force. Determined to know what in the galaxy could possibly have motivated his Padawan to visit such a sketchy planet.
Annoyance screams back at him through the bond.

Rexsoka. Yeah, it's my ship. Still.
I mainly just lurk here, reading fanfic and enjoying the memes. But the angst of the last few has given me the courage to dive in and say a few words.
First, let me clear the air: Rebels was when I started shipping Rexsoka. Prior to their reunion on that show, it had never ever occurred to me to ship them. Despite having read the novels.
So, yeah, look, I totally get the opposition to shipping early Clone Wars Rex and Ahsoka. She's a child. He's a child too, arguably, although his accelerated maturation makes everything super messy. The military structure and fact that Rex is basically a slave means its got power issues galore. Then for those in the US, there is the whole 18 year old age of consent thing (noting, for good or ill, it's 16 most other places). I get why this squicks people. It's the SanSan of Star Wars.
But people grow up. Even on TV.
Season 7 Ahsoka is 17 going on 18, and effectively an adult. She's commanded armies, and just spent a year living and working independently. She is also obviously mature and, frankly, animated that way. Rex is a long term friend, they love and care for each other, and by the end of the season, she basically risks everything for him, and he for her. The episodes are also written in a very obviously shippy way, with the gazing, the chats, the meaningful converstions, the hand holding and the tears. Not to mention that sad, moonlit reunion in Tales of the Jedi.
And although I dont think it matters much, by this time, even taking Rex at double chronological age, the gap is pretty mild by fantasy standards. 17-18 and about 26, roughly the same as Buffy and age-corrected Angel, and way less than Han and Leia.
Fast forward to Rebels, and we have two mature adults with a shared history and goals, who love, trust and admire each other, share common interests, and are amongst the most important people in each other's lives. It's a believable and natural thing for that to progress to something more. The challenges to their relationship are things like, for Ahsoka, the lingering memory of the Jedi code and Anakin and Padme's destructive passion, and Rex's rapid aging, status and limited life experiences. It is those kinds of emotional and external barriers and their shared trauma that make the romance so interesting.
Season 7 + and Rebels Rexsoka is classic friends to lovers, and one of the nicest, softest and most realistic relationships in Star Wars. The opposition to it, and moraliatic shaming of those who like is, is something I simply don't get. It's bizarre. There are heaps of ships that are far, far more problematic (including Anakin/Padme) that don't get this hate.
Like, anti dudes, what exactly *is* the problem here? I suspect the it's that some people just want to get their hate on.
The recent flashbacks? Yeah, that one on Mandalore complicates thing, but I doubt they had stomping on shippers in mind when they cast Ariana, as I have seen suggested elsewhere. The more likely scenario is that - at about 14 yo when this was filmed - Ariana was totally perfect for the first flashback, and is perfect for playing young Ahsoka going forward. Even setting aside that she is an amazing actress, she's insanely athletic and can duel weild light sabres while knee walking though a twist. She's also already tied to Disney. She wasn't quite right for the part, and, I agree, that does make watching it in light of the fanfic a bit uncomfortable. But, it's not just a shipper issue. Putting an Ahsoka that looks and sounds like that in the episodes with the Martez sisters and Bo Katan is weird af too, and doesn't work. I doubt it is meant to.
Story-wise, the best and only real take is that the flashbacks aren't live action replays. The Mandalore scene doesnt even chronologically match what happened (Ahsoka is so fighting Saxon in that scene, which never happened). They are visions about Ahsoka and Anakin and their relationship, not live action replays. Both remember her as a child caught up in a war. Smoke, the fog of war, flashing lights and dying, faceless clones.
And Anakin and Rex.
What I take from these is that in Ahsoka's mind, and Anakin's too for that matter, Rex is always there for her. Standing in the chaos, calm and confident in himself and in her, and looking badass as heck. With an older Ahsoka it would have absolutely been smoking scene from her pov, and no way was it written otherwise. As an older Ahsoka remembering, it's hot. As younger Ahsoka, he's there as her protector and friend.
Do I do ever think this ship will play out on screen? Not, no explicitly. And, yeah, it probably is harder now because of that vision (although if they ever do film a younger Ahsoka series, they will undoubtedly be casting a young actor for Rex, and Ariana will, by then, be 18). But I don't think that was intentional, and I don't think that much has changed. It was always intended to be an "open for interpretation" relationship, written with the possibility not excluded. And I am good with that. Perhaps I even prefer it. Star Wars has a truly dreadful record with romance and, besides, too often cementing subtle or ust-based ships kill them. I just hope this hasn't, because it's still my ship and I love it.

Something I would add onto this is the inclusion of Kaeden and Miara and the Martez Sisters. like yeah, so much missed potential and they focus on the wrong things about Ahsoka.
