my prof just explained on the syllabus that he’s included more points in the class than we needed to pass, so we could skip up like?? 20 small assignments/quizzes/participation!! and still get a very high grade!!

the idea was that we could focus on assignments that played to our strengths - only do the participation stuff if we like to talk out loud - only do the quizzes/readings if we want to do the class remotely - only do online discussions if we like to talk and share opinions but struggle with anxiety in class ect.

and that’s cool enough but then he pulled up DnD character sheets with drawings he’d done of these hypothetical student player classes and how our various accessibility needs could be gamified to ‘max out’ different aspects of the class to get high grades and like!!!!!

hell yeah!!!! let’s treat accessibility in higher education not just as a necessity but as the fun, engaging, and creative aspect of learning that it is!!! I love this!!

fun fact: in the 50s the Kent cigarette brand had a type of cig with micronite filters that literally had crocidolite in them, aka BLUE ASBESTOS, literally THE most lethal type of asbestos by a mile. and you could just buy it at the store and huff it

#even tho it was less commonly used than chrysotile or amosite asbestos a lot of sources im seeing say it may have caused more cancer deaths #citation needed on that but it really is much more lethal than the other types despite being a bit less common #it was also used in gas mask filters in like the 30s. though white asbestos seems to more commonly have been in gas masks overall #<- white asbestos is chrysotile

i like to pick up feathers while out on a walk, and today i decided to trim and paint this dove feather i'd found and cleaned a while ago.

it's not quite proportionally accurate and the feather didn't take the watercolor paint as easily as i was hoping, but i'm happy with it as a first attempt!

i don't have another pure white feather in my collection right now but as soon as i pick up another one i'll try again :]

#another problem i ran into is #in traditional painting i always use masking tape for like. EVERYTHING because my hands aren't steady enough to get clean edges #(i can never steady my hands enough for brushes. i can only work with pens tbh) #but i didn't want to risk taping the feather because i worried some of it would come off when i peeled it out #also because it's not a solid surface i'm sure the paint would bleed under the tape #my art #free palestine
